no but tommy and buck get into a fight and it's a big one. one that feels like the end and hurts like the end and they haven't spoken in a couple days. tommy is at his place sulking when there's a knock on his door. he opens it and is surprised to see howie there, wanting to check on him. he comes in and they talk for a bit. howie tells him to give buck a little time. they'll figure everything out. he's never been like this with anyone before. it hurts more when you really care about someone.
after howie leaves, tommy only has about ten minutes to himself before there's another knock on the door. bobby this time. he says he's there because he made too much meatloaf and mashed potatoes and was just gonna drop off some extras. but he stays and warms up the food and eats with tommy, making sure he finishes his plate because bobby knows he probably hasn't eaten in a while.
he gets a text from hen a few hours later reminding him that they're both stubborn and one of them needs to stop being an idiot first so they can fix things. tommy texts back that he really screwed up, and she replies that they both said things they didn't mean, and the thing about a mutual screw up is that you can mutually apologize and mutually learn from it and mutually agree to do better.
it's late, like middle of the night late, when he gets a simple text from maddie. it's just a heart, nothing more, and tommy's pretty sure that buck is probably there with her right now spilling his guts to her about their fight. it takes him twenty minutes to gather enough courage to send a heart back.
he doesn't sleep, just like he hasn't for the last two nights, and there's a knock on his door before the sun comes up. it's eddie this time, and he's glaring at tommy with a six pack in his hands. he tells tommy he will not let buck sleep on his couch another night because the snoring is ridiculous and the whining is even worse. he was on the phone with maddie until 3am and he has no idea how to whisper apparently. still, even in his annoyance, he comes in and asks tommy how he's doing. they sit on the couch and talk and drink because even though it's early they've both lost all sense of time.
in all this, tommy admits he is kind of shocked, because everyone from the 118 has checked on him in some way. eddie shrugs, answers simply, "you're family too, man." it's the first time tommy realizes he doesn't have these people just because of evan, he has them because they like him and want him around.
obviously, buck arrives at tommy's place a couple hours later. he's panicked and shaky when tommy answers the door, which immediately worries tommy because he hates to see evan like that. but the panic turns to shock when he sees tommy is actually there and he grabs at his heart as he exclaims, "chimney told me you were dead!"
they end up apologizing, making up and promising to be better. tommy shoots chimney a text. seriously, howie, you told him i was dead?
howie responds: 100% success rate with that one. you can thank me later.

Dead Man's Diner pt 6
Bruce's eye twitched as he forced the well-worn grin on his face.
It was a subtle thing, one that Tim would have thought he had imagined if he didnt know better, but he did.
Across from the both of them was Vlad Masters, he was a tall man, taller than Tim but still shorter than Bruce, all of him screamed rich villian, that is other than the way the second Bruce made a comment off hand about the Gotham Knights football team.
It was then the cruel looking man melted away, and Vlad Masters devolved into a chattering 40 something that knows far too much about the Green Bay Packers.
"Oh if I could go back in time and see that touch down again I could die a happy man" Vlad said with a wistful looking smile on his face, eyes glazed over in memories before he seemed to snap out of it and shake his head, a light dusting of pink came across his cheeks, lighting up his papery skin.
"Ah...do please forgive me...I seem to have gotten a tad bit carried away..." Tim bit back a scoff as he leaned back into his chair, they had been talking for almost a full hour and nearly all of it was Vlad ranting.
Bruce let out a small chuckle that sounded fake even to Tim, "No worry Mister Masters! Perhaps next time the Knights go against the Packers we can share a box!"
Tim knew this was to help sell the whole 'Brucie' act, but he still couldn't keep the cringe on his face, "B? Um...the Knights are a minor leauge team they...ugh forget it." Rubbing at his eyes, Tim cut off the words that Masters looked ready to say, "What was it again that you asked for a meeting Mister Masters? Something about..."
Looking down to his tablet, Tim sent a check in timer, if Vlad was to strike it would be soon "some sort of collaboration? With your subsidiary Axion Labs?"
Masters seemed a little taken back from Tim's thinly vailed bluntness but pushed onward, "Of course, my dear employees at the labs have been working on an interesting new energy source! You see it's fully green and has a positive net energy production." He paused for a moment and a sneer like condescending grin got plastered on his face, "That is Mister Wayne, meaning it produces more energy then we put in it."
Bruce's eyes crinkled as his cheesy grin could only grew more, "Thank you! I was just about to ask, my dear boy Tim here is far better at understanding all that...wiggley wobbly science things!"
(Liar) Tim thought before sending Masters a bashful smile, "I know enough that what your saying is astounding to hear...why come to Wanye Enterprises with this?"
Masters grin was predatory as he spoke smoothly "Well~ Lex and I have a...bit of a history so I couldn't possibly be able to work this with him, Queen Industries are more biotechincal in nature, while WE is far more wide spread! Not only do you have a tech division, but also medical, defense and mechanical divisions!"
Things were clicking in Tims mind, Masters wanted to use WE to distribute, make them stake their own reputation for what Masters was peddling.
Bruce's persona was slipping slightly, his blue eyes steely as he looked Masters down, "We will need a working concept before we can press onward for anything else."
Masters kept the grin on for a second longer before it slipped, "Of course, I will go above that and even send my two top scientists here to demonstrate-"
He was cut off by a shrill ringing coming from Tim's tablet, making him wince as he rushed to imput the code for the check in timer, sending the man a small smile Tim spoke, "So sorry about that, I thought I put that on silent...but do look at the time Bruce, We have a meeting with Lucius in twenty minutes, did you get those slides done?"
Sending Bruce a sideways glance, Tim watched as the man stiffened but shook his head, "I did not. I am sorry Vladdie, but we will have to cut this short, I am sure you know how many meetings it takes to run a company...but please, do meet with Maddie my receptionist to schedule those scientists of yours to come over yes?"
Tim could have sworn he saw a blood vessel pop as Masters hissed a little before he gave a terse nod, "Of course...Maddie you said? Yes...I do think I will speak to her." The man seemed to calm rapidly at the name, and seemed to almost float out of the meeting room.
---
Bruce let his persona fall the same time his head fell into his hands, the heels of his palms rubbing at his eyes.
There was silence in the meeting room, he could hear Tim's fingers pattering against the tempered glass of his tablet, and the soft chatter of the office from the outside and the ever faint sound of wind whipping around the high rise tower.
Picking his head up, he looked to Tim, doing a few hand motions, "DO. BUG. SWEEP" Getting a nod in response, Bruce went over the meeting.
Something was definitely strange about Masters, he was only 48 and yet fully gray, his skin was waxy and looked translucent, deathly pale, he had a cain but didn't have a limp.
Not to mention a seemingly tense history with Lex Luthor, to the point he would seek out WE instead of Lex for his seemingly miracle energy source and-
"Clear B, not a bug in place. "
"Hn" Bruce grunted in response, trying to get his brain back on track.
The energy source was another thing that was sticking out to Bruce, it sounded far too good to be true, it broke the laws of physics to-
"Bruce? What do you think of him? Suspect or...?" Tim spoke again, and Bruce let out a small sigh, his deductions would have to wait till later.
"I think we will need to monitor him closely, I have Drs Fentons are his lead researchers..."
---
Scrunching up his face, Danny stuffed his face into his elbow before sneezing thrice, groaning for a moment before he straightened up, rubbing at his nose, the Halfa came over to the sink in the kitchen of the Diner.
It was his second day as an over night chef and he was honestly having fun? Like cooking is so much cooler when the food wasn't actively reanimated and trying to kill him.
The diner was at a new place, now it was on the old rail ways that ran through Park Row, or how the people that lived there called it Crime Alley.
He had been nervous at first, because he had felt the familiar shiver of entering another beings haunt, but thankfully the diner was stationed just out of the haunts bounds.
Biting back a little yawn, Danny flipped a page in Lunch Ladys, only to see the recipe shift and change, going from a tuna casserole to one for a classic chili.
Blinking a few times at the book, he sighed, "Well alright then." Taking note of the ingredients, Danny drummed his fingers in the book, it was obviously more than just a simple cook book, with it, you know, actually shifting and changing each page.
Shaking his head, Danny straightened up and stopped leaning over the counter, "So...Spooktastical Chili? No that sounds dumb...Cursed Cauldron Chili? Closer..." thinking out loud, Danny set a massive pot over the stove, flipping the flame on as he work shopped cheesy names for his new dish.

Jason had an itch.
The kind that just wouldn't go away no matter how hard you scratched at it.
The problem he couldn't get even a second of relief since the itch was in his chest, right dab in the middle.
Rubbing at it as he groaned, Jason rolled off his bed and stood, it was late, he had finished patrol an hour ago and he just...
Felt the itch to do something, to go see something that was just right out of reach.
Sighing as he stumbled around his room, grabbing discarded jeans and an old hoodie with the arms cut off, slipping them on as he left the small bedroom of the safe house.
Stopping in the tiny kitchen, Jason did his best Bat glare (tm) at the empty refrigerator, letting out a grumble as he slammed the door closed.
"Fuckin...shit." flipping the cabinet doors open he glared at the small tub of mostly empty peanut butter and sleeve of crackers that were clearly ripped into by a rat.
"Fuckity fuck fuck..." sure there were spices, so many spices, but he wanted to eat, not cook, Alfred had spoiled that feeling into him through many years.
Slamming them closed as well, Jason growled as he stomped over to his boots, toeing them on before he stormed out of his safe house, fumbling with his keys to lock it behind him.
And with that he set out on the Alley, letting his feet carry him through the streets, he waved at some of the friendlier working girls and boys, but kept walking.
It took a moment for him to realize where he was going, to that little mom and pop diner that closed years ago, they used to give him left overs when he was still one of the dirty street rats trying to live...
"Since fucking when did the lights in that place turn on?" Stopping outside of what he had thought was a clossed down diner, Jason squinted at the banner stretched above the doorway.
"Big C's diner? No...old guys name was like Tony, so ain't their kids that wanted to take over..."
Before Jason could stop himself, his hand was already around the door handle, and he was pulling it open.

Josh sees Buck and Maddie in the break room and decides, heck it, he can inject himself into their sibling bonding time.
"Hello Buck, it's good to see you," Josh says, grabbing a chair and planting himself down before either of them can say anything. He opens his bento box - he's trying this whole thing, it's going okay so far but he's running out of ideas for foods - and says, "How is life treating you?"
"Pretty well, actually," Buck says with a coy smile.
Maddie snorts. She focuses on her sandwich and dino nuggets. "That's not what he was saying just now," she tells Josh, her pretty eyes twinkling.
Josh gasps theatrically. "Evan Buckley, am I not your friend? Am I unworthy of the truth?"
"Maddie!" Buck nudges his sister's hand with his own, a cute pout on his lips. Finally, he rolls his eyes and says, "Alright, fine. It's... kinda, uh, not great."
He looks a little dejected, even, but Maddie doesn't seem too concerned, so Josh aims for the middle with his response. "What's the matter?"
"I kinda wanna...sndsmnstotommy." The last words are so mumbled that the only thing Josh makes out is "Tommy".
Josh is a great listener. He is literally a professional at listening to people. "What was that?"
Buck rolls his eyes and plops his chin on his hands on the table. "I wanna send some pictures to my boyfriend."
"Hot pilot boyfriend," Maddie says, fanning herself.
"I'll take your word for it," Josh says, having only seen photos of him in dirty turnouts and mussed hair.
Buck frowns at them. "He is hot. Look." Unlocking his phone, he swipes through some pictures. "See?"
"Oh, he is very hot." Josh is happy to be proven wrong by a picture of a buff older man in a tight navy blue tank top and jeans, with smears of engine grease on his very muscular arms and a smudge over his cheek. That profile alone... There has to be some sort of deity smiling down on the Buckleys, giving them incredibly handsome partners after their shitty childhoods.
Buck sighs dreamily as he gazes at the picture. "Yeah. I haven't seen him for more than twenty minutes at a stretch for nearly three weeks." His pout returns at full force. "Dumb wildfires. I am declaring them homophobic and biphobic."
Josh pets Buck on the head in sympathy. "So you wanna send him pictures? I bet you have lots of nice ones with Maddie and Jee and your friends."
"Not that sort," Buck says, his cheeks flushing.
Then Josh gets it. "Ah, nudes. Good and reliable communication methods for long distance relationships."
Buck buries his face in his hands, but the tips of his ears are still bright red.
Laughing now, Maddie ruffles the curls on top of his head. "I can't give you much advice since I don't get sent nudes," she says, giggling, "and I wouldn't know what a gay man would like to see, so why don't you pick Josh's brains here?"
Josh beams at Maddie. "I like this assignment."
"He's taken, remember that," Maddie warns, wagging a finger at her friend as she heads to the sink to wash her hands.
Josh puts on a wounded air. "I don't poach. And I give great advice." He returns his attention to Buck and says gleefully, "Alright, first things first: is your Tommy a legs guy, an ass guy or a chest guy?"
Buck lifts his head enough to glare at him. "I'm not gonna gossip about him with you."
"Fine. Spoilsport. Anyway, post workout selfies sans shirt, always a winner. Low angle shots up your torso, especially since you are built like a fridge, that should work too. Oh, post-shower photos when your skin is all scrubbed and pink? Highly recommend." Josh lowers his voice and says, "Dick pics are really good if you don't show all of it, keep him wanting more, but make sure to encrypt them if you can, and warn him to go somewhere private so he doesn't open them in company."
Buck hides his face again, but then he takes a deep breath and sits straight up once more. He seems determined not to look directly at Josh, however. "Thank you."
Grinning, Josh digs into his bento. "You're welcome. Now, tell me what you're willing to share about your boyfriend. Oh, and welcome to this side of the rainbow by the way. I'm very proud of you."
Buck does look at him now and ducks his head shyly. "Thanks." He licks his lips (Josh doesn't think too much about those lips) and starts saying, "Well, Tommy's a pilot at the 217..."

after buck and eddie get together, eddie starts giving buck absentminded kisses all the time.
kiss on the forehead after he passes him his morning coffee. kiss on the cheek while buck is cooking dinner. kiss on the back of his hand as buck drives them to bobby’s house for a family bbq. kiss on top of his head while they cuddle watching a documentary. kiss on his shoulder while they sit on the station couch reading in between calls.
but buck’s favorite kisses? the ones edde blows him from a distance. when no one is looking during a call and they have to separate, buck doing evac and eddie treating some minor burns. when buck is pulling out of the their driveway to go meet maddie and jee for lunch and eddie sees him off from the front porch. during their family night out at the movies with chris in between them before the action film their son chose and they’re both probably going to hate begins.
every single blown kiss is always followed by eddie mouthing “i love you” at him, and every single time buck feels himself start to blush, the butterflies in his stomach staging a very chaotic and uncoordinated flash mob.
there’s something so exhilarating about knowing that no matter how close or far away they physically are eddie always wants to be kissing him. like eddie knows just as well as buck does that his lips were always meant to graze buck’s skin and leave behind goosebumps for hours to come.
even when they can’t see each other at all, buck knows eddie is thinking about it too because eddie does not go more than 3 hours without sending him little 😘 emojis. he doesn’t say anything else, doesn’t contextualize them because he doesn’t need to. it's just random 😘 throughout the day, scattered in between the rest of their texts.
buck [3:33pm]: got caught in traffic, chris and i will be there soon! eddie [3:33pm]: ok, hen and denny just arrived eddie [6:03pm]: 😘
&
eddie [11:27am]: can you write “chris dentist appointment” on the kitchen calendar for 10/17? buck [11:31am]: done! eddie [11:32am]: thanks, baby eddie [2:16pm]: 😘
&
buck [10:08am]: we also need eggs! buck [11:43am]: remind me to replace the lightbulb in chris’s bedside lamp eddie [1:14pm]: 😘 eddie [3:09pm]: your amazon package just arrived buck [3:09pm]: yaaaaaaay eddie [7:24pm]: 😘
&
eddie [6:02am]: 😘 eddie [8:56am]: 😘 eddie [9:07am]: 😘 eddie [12:31pm]: 😘 buck [3:17pm]: 😘😘😘
#buddie#911#hey did you know eddie diaz is a fucking sap? because he is and when he and buck finally get together his sappiness grows exponentially#it just explodes!! and buck who is also a die-heart romantic just eats it up!!!! they're all about the kiss emojis and the hand holding an#post-it notes around the house and the flowers on a random sunday and the wearing shirts that match the other person's eyes and#the pictures in wallets and the slow dancing in the kitchen and the pet names and the feeding each other ice cream#everyone around them loves them and hates them so much. chris especially.#anyways sorry i woke up feeling some kind of way about them today wow

Eddie hopped down the step from the engine, and landed with both his feet on the sidewalk. It was his turn to go on a coffee run today. He didn’t have a standard day he had to go on the coffee run, but they did have a standard order for who was going inside. They couldn’t just go in there with the entire crew, that wasn’t practical.
So now they had a standard order, Eddie knew he came after Hen and after Eddie came Bobby. That’s the only thing he had to memorize. So since last shift it was Hen’s turn, now it’s Eddie’s turn.
Eddie walked a few meters down the street, passing four or five shops as he eventually reached the coffee company.
He pulled the door open as someone was just on his way towards the exit. Softly he could hear the bell being triggered as he pulled the door. “After you” he said with a gentle smile, as he held open the door for the woman who was old enough to be his mother, maybe even his grandmother.
The woman smiled at him and thanked him for holding the door open for her, and he stepped inside. He spotted quite a line for the orders. Luckily after Ravi’s record of fastest coffee run, the rest of the crew started doing the same. Ordering online.
He walked towards the end of the counter, where the waiting area was. He quickly slid his phone from his pocket. The phone instantly lit up as he held the phone in front of his face. Eddie scrolled through some of the notifications he had gotten while he was on call.
But there surely was one message he couldn’t wait to open. He had a few messages from (Y/n). He unlocked his phone, went straight towards his texts and opened the chat between him and (Y/n).
Eddie couldn’t help but smile at his phone as he saw the picture from Chris and (Y/n) in the car. He loved that his son and his girlfriend had such a good bond. Chris had never been good with changes, but something was different when (Y/n) came into both of their lives.
They met at one of Bobby’s and Athena’s backyard parties, the one where Buck, her brother, almost died from a blood clot. Maddie and (Y/n) brought Buck over to the Grant-Nash's house, and that’s where he met (Y/n).
He remembered the day like it was yesterday, although it had been three years already.
An even wider smile formed itself onto Eddie’s face as he saw her text message which she sent after the photo. “Going shopping with Chris, be safe ❤️”
Oh how he loved her for saying her standard words whenever he was on shift. Be safe. Everytime when he was on shift and he called her, she’d say that.
It was kind of a good luck wish, (Y/n) knew the consequences of dating a firefighter. He had told her as soon as they became close enough, that one day he might not make it home. But she already knew that from her brother.
But still that was different.
But something told Eddie that she was the reason he’d make it home after every shift.
His fingers hovered over the keyboard of his phone as he thought of the right words to say. He wanted to tell her he was okay, and that he was going to call her as soon as they arrived back at the station.
But as his fingers tapped across the screen to type his message, mid sentence his eyes shot up from his phone.
“Excuse me? What do you think you’re doing?” the woman spoke up, trying to get the attention of the man in front of her.
The man in front of her was wearing a black hoodie, with the hood over his head. “You can’t just cut the line like that!” the woman continued as she tried again to get some kind of reaction from the man. But he didn’t give a kick.
The woman turned to the people in the line behind her, “can you believe this?” she asked the other customers behind her. Other customers also shook their heads in agreement, he should get in line just like any other person did.
Eddie watched the entire scene going as he held his phone in his hand.
She turned back to the back of the man. “Hello!” her voice sounded annoyed as she tapped his shoulder. But still, no reaction. “Get to the back of the line, we’re all waiting here!” she said, with a sigh falling off her lips.
And that’s the moment when something inside of the man snapped. He turned around fast, and lost his cool. He reached his right hand out to his back as he fished out a gun that was probably hanging between the rim of his baggy jeans and the skin on his back.
Suddenly Eddie was back in action again. He quickly placed his phone back into his pocket as he crouched down to the floor.
The man started threatening the lady behind him, “Back the fuck up!” he groaned as he held the gun next to his head, pointing at the woman. Intimidating, he walked straight towards the woman. While different reactions came from the customers. Some gasped, others screamed, and a few didn’t know how to react.
He walked towards the woman until she tripped over her own feet and fell on her bum. He stopped for a few seconds and just aimed the gun at the woman. She was terrified, she squeezed her eyes closed as she waited for the man to pull the trigger, accepting her faith.
He just smiled at her, like a psychopath. And then he turned on his heels and pointed the gun at the cashier behind the counter. “You!” He yelled as he walked back to the counter. “Give me everything you got!” He shouted as he motioned with his gun towards the money tray.
The cashier behind the counter looked at the man, and froze. His eyes wide as if he had seen a ghost, or maybe ten ghosts.
“Come on! Hurry up!” He said with an annoyed tone overruling his voice when the man behind the counter didn’t move fast enough for him.
The line behind him, including the woman, was gone like it vanished into thin air.
Eddie felt the adrenaline rushing through his body as he watched the entire scene in front of him. He couldn’t just stand there and do nothing.
But he also couldn’t just stand up and run towards the man, tackling him. He needed a plan, and he needed it now. Especially because his back was faced towards Eddie.
Eddie used the adrenaline in his body and turned it into courage so he could sneak his way towards the robber. Eddie didn’t have any weapons, he wasn’t a police officer. The only thing he got was a radio, which he couldn’t use, he couldn’t risk radioing his team or dispatch, what if the guy heard? Because if he did Eddie would put everybody in the store in danger. And maybe turn this robbery into a hostage situation.
Eddie was still crouched down as low as he could, as he slowly and quietly moved towards the robber. He could hear nervous whimpers all around him, but he didn’t let that stop him. Eddie moved closer, and closer, slow, but not too slow and silent. He prayed for his shoes to not start squeaking against the floor of the shop.
A few feet before Eddie reached the robber he stopped, if he did two steps now he’d be in handreach for him. He needed to act swiftly. Eddie quickly stood straight, and placed his left arm around the robber’s neck as he yanked the right arm with the gun with full force onto the desk of the shop.
The cashier let out a scream as he ducked down to the ground and hid behind the desk.
The robber let out a groan as his arm hit the desk. But before he could let go of the gun, the robber yanked the back of his head against Eddie’s face. He probably broke Eddie’s nose with that move, but Eddie wasn’t going to let that stop him.
The man turned around and so did his still armed hand. But he couldn’t even point the gun straight at Eddie as he locked his left hand around the gun and his right hand around the guy’s wrist. Eddie moves the gun away from his face, and snaps his arms as low as possible, in the hope he’d let go.
And he did.
Eddie had the gun in his hands now. He did it. He disarmed the guy. Eddie didn’t think for a second as he pointed the gun at the robber. As he placed his left hand onto the radio that was attached to his chest and kept the robber at gunpoint. “Dispatch, this is firefighter Diaz. There was an armed robbery at The Daily Grind-” Eddie called in.
But just as he was mid sentence, a blow hit his shoulder. It felt like he was being pushed by something invisible. But then a roaring pain spread itself through his shoulder. Eddie dropped the arm in which he held the gun, holding the man at gunpoint. And dropped the gun to the floor.
With the hand that was just on his radio, he pushed down on the throbbing pain in his shoulder. Eddie took a look at his shoulder as he took his hand off the pain But when he saw the darker shade of blue created on his uniform, which almost looked like a water stain.
But water stains wouldn't hurt that much.
He took a look at the inside of his hand, and then he realized: it's completely red. He had been shot.
That’s when the pain got worse, and worse. Eddie looked up from his hand, at the guy he was facing. But he was gone. Along with the gun that Eddie dropped to the ground.
It looked like Eddie was zoning out. He was looking right through everybody, as if no one existed. He could hear some dull voices from the customers that were still in the shop on the back of his mind.
He lost balance in his feet as his body tumbled to the ground and hit the floor.
It felt like minutes, maybe even hours that he was lying there on the ground. Customers started to surround him, trying to help. “Someone call 9-1-1!” someone called out. But just as they did, the rest of the 118 entered the coffee shop.
“Eddie! Eddie! Hey!” Buck called out as he bursted through the door and ran from the entrance towards Eddie’s body. Buck dropped down to his knees on Eddie’s left side, and patted his hand against one of his cheeks.
“Oh god..” Hen mumbled as she took in the sight of one of her colleagues, down on the ground, with a gunshot wound through his shoulder. Bobby wasn’t on the rig, which means she was the interim captain on scene right now.
“Bring me my bag!” Chimney called out at the rest of the team, as one of them nodded and ran towards the truck. “Eddie? Can you hear me?” Buck asked as Chimney kneeled down on the other side and checked the wound, to see if the bullet was still in his shoulder. “Looks like we’ve got a through and through!” Chimney concluded.
Hen on the other hand was calling Dispatch through the radio, trying to get an ambulance to their location. “Copy that 118, an ambulance is on its way. Ten minutes out.” the dispatcher responded.
Buck looked over his shoulder at their interim captain. “Hen, he doesn't have ten minutes.” Buck said as he looked Hen in the eyes. She knew Buck was right. Every second they stayed there, he’d lose more and more blood, even though Chimney put enough pressure on it with the gauze.
They were asking for time they didn’t have.
For a second Hen was cracking her brain, really. They needed to get their colleague, they saw more as a brother, to the hospital as soon as possible. Hen sighed, “Get him in the rig” she commanded.
UNSEND TEXT MESSAGE:
Wish I was there.. I’ll call you as soon-
-
“Thirty year old male, GSW to the upper torso, through and through.” Hen called out as she, Buck, Chimney and Mckenzie helped lift Eddie from the backseat of the fire engine to the gurney the nurses and doctor placed next to the rig.
“Pulse is weak” a male nurse called out as soon as they had placed Eddie onto the gurney. “Trauma bay two, let’s set up for a thoracotomy!” The female nurse ordered as they pushed Eddie away on the gurney from his team.
Buck just stared at the nurses that surrounded the gurney as they ran as fast as they could towards the ER.
A thousand questions were running through Buck’s mind at the moment, and he couldn’t do anything other than just watching them wheel Eddie away. A hand fell onto his shoulder as he felt himself slip away from reality.
He looked to his left as he saw Hen’s hand being placed onto his shoulder, she tried to give him some kind of smile, but she couldn’t. She had seen lots of gunshot wounds, but it never happened to someone she was so close with.
“Did somebody call Bobby?” Chimney asked as he looked at both of the firefighters. Hen nodded, with her hand still on Buck’s shoulder. “He’s on his way..” she said softly.
“W-what about (Y/n)? I should call her.. right?” Buck said as he finally took his mind off Eddie, but remembered that they had to call Buck’s sister, Eddie’s girlfriend, about what happened. Buck looked at Hen and Chimney, asking if he should be the one doing it.
“Buck..-” Hen said, but stopped as soon as Buck interrupted her words. “I’m going to call her” he said, and fished his phone from his pocket as he started trembling. His hands were shaking as he was holding the phone in his hands.
“Buck..” Hen sighed as she placed her hands onto his, trying to reassure him, calm him down. “You shouldn’t be the one calling your sister.” she said as she pushed his hands down, to stop him from doing anything on his phone.
Buck turned towards Hen, so he was standing across from her instead of on her side. “B-but it’s my sister.” he stumbled, as he looked at Hen, “It’s her b-boyfriend who got shot.” he added as Hen could sense that Buck was on the edge of a breakdown, his voice was trembling along with his hands, and his eyes were looking lost.
“Exactly Buck. You’re too personally involved, that’s why you shouldn’t be the one telling her this news. But the captain should.” She tried to explain to Buck.
But Buck didn’t get it. They were all too personally involved. They were practically family, not by blood, but Buck saw Hen like his older sister, Eddie and Chim like his brothers. “Seriously? Too personally involved? We’re all too personally involved! I..- You’ve got to be kidding me. Hen..-” He stumbled as he couldn’t get his mind around it.
“I’m not asking Buck.” Hen cut Buck off as she folded her arms. “Hen..” Buck said as he couldn’t believe Hen was telling him off. Hen held up a flat hand as a sign for Buck to stop. “No.” she said, ”I’m not asking, i'm telling you. Not as your friend, but as your captain.” she continued.
Buck looked down to the ground, avoiding his interim captain’s eyes. Looking like some puppy who didn’t know what he did wrong.
“Now.. give me your phone.” she said as she gave them a few moments to let the moment sink in. Buck looked up from the ground, his eyebrows furrowed, as a confused “Why?” left his mouth.
“Because, I need to make sure you don’t do anything stupid.” Hen moved one hand from the folded position and held it towards Buck, waiting for him to place the phone in it. He let out a scoff, she wasn’t serious.. right?
“Come on” she said as she moved her fingers towards her, making a motion to tell Buck to give her the phone. A small laugh left his mouth as he shook his head in disapproval. “You know what? Fine.” he said as he placed the phone in her hand and a deep sigh rolled off his lips.
“Thank you, you’ll get it back when I’m done. Okay?” Hen said softly as she placed the phone in her pocket and fished her own phone from the other pocket. “Now, I’m going to call (Y/n). In the meanwhile, go to the waiting area and get some coffee. We’re going to need that.” Hen said as she switched looks between Chimney and Buck.
Chimney and Buck just simply nodded and they made their way towards the entrance of the ER. “Oh and Buck..” Hen said as they made like four to five steps from where Hen was standing. Buck looked over his shoulder as he stopped in his tracks.
”Please, don’t do anything stupid.”
______
(Y/n) opened the driver's side door and stepped out of the car. “You good Chris?” (Y/n) asked as she walked towards the backseat and opened the door to get some bags out. “Yeah I got it” Chis said as he hopped out of the car and closed the door behind him.
“Good buddy” she smiled as Chris made his way towards the front door and she clicked the car keys to lock her car. She fumbled a little with her keys while she was holding the bags in her hands, but managed to get the front door key and unlock the door.
The front door swung open as Chris happily walked inside and (Y/n) closed the front door behind her with a smooth, soft kick with her foot.
(Y/n) smiled as she saw Chris walking down the hall towards his room instantly. (Y/n) made her way towards the kitchen, “Chris! Will you come help me unpack the groceries?” (Y/n) asked as she placed the two bags on the table in the kitchen.
“In a minute!” he answered as her phone started to vibrate in her back pocket. She laughed as she shook her head and fished her phone from her back pocket. She let her eyes read the text to see who was calling her.
Hen Wilson
Her eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the name. Hen? Why was she calling (Y/n)? Yes she had Hen’s phone number, and Hen had (Y/n)’s. But they never actually used it. Normally if there was some kind of party, invitations would go via Eddie or her older brother Buck.
(Y/n) clicked the green button as she placed the phone to her ear. “This is (Y/n)” she said as she answered the call. “Hey (Y/n), It’s Hen.” Hen said on the other side of the phone. “Hey Hen” she greeted her as she was completely sure she was talking with Hen.
(Y/n) was slowly starting to unpack the groceries from the bag, and placing them on the table. With her right hand holding her phone, she used her left hand to unpack the bags.
“I need to tell you something..” Hen sighed, she could feel a lump in her throat as she tried to start her story. How was she going to tell this woman that her boyfriend had been shot and was now in surgery?
“Uhm.. okay?” (Y/n) stumbled confused as her eyebrows furrowed. Something about this entire conversation felt off. The way Hen was talking, told (Y/n) she was struggling. (Y/n) stopped unpacking the bags as she placed her free hand onto the table.
“(Y/n) something happened with Eddie on shift today...” Hen began, “There’s really no easy way of telling you this..” she continued as she was still looking for the right words, but the silences between the sentences made (Y/n) anxious.
“Hen.. you’re starting to freak me out. What’s going on?” (Y/n) said as she waited for Hen to speak up again. But there was a longer silence. “Hen?” (Y/n)’s voice sounded through the phone.
There was another moment of silence.
Then a deep shaky inhale broke the silence, “(Y/n).. he got shot.” Hen sobbed as she tried to keep herself together while she was on the phone.
“What?” The word just fell from her lips. She wasn’t even aware of what she was saying. But suddenly it was like her entire world had stopped.
“Eddie was out, getting coffee for the team. We heard from customers that he tried to stop a robber, and he managed to do that.. But there was another one who shot him.” Hen said, Hen’s voice was there.. but it wasn’t like any of her words were being received by her brain.
“We got him to Presbyterian hospital as fast as we could.” She continued, it was like (Y/n) was completely under water, while Hen was still talking to her. Her voice was full and she couldn’t make anything out of what she was saying.
Her eyes were starting to zone out. She was staring into the distance.
The line was deadly silent. Hen wasn’t even sure if (Y/n) was still there on the phone with her. “(Y/n)? Are you okay?” The interim captain asked.
(Y/n) let go of the dining table as she placed her hand onto the wall, across from the kitchen counter, to steady herself. “Thanks for calling me Hen..” she stumbled, with difficulty.
“(Y/n)-” Hen’s voice was audible as (Y/n) dropped the phone from her ear and clicked the off button, making the connection between the two phones disconnected.
She didn’t even notice she dropped the phone from her hand, down onto the ground. Something didn't feel quite right.
“I’m here, how can I help?” Chris’ voice sounded through the kitchen. He entered the kitchen as he looked around, nobody was at the counter, putting the groceries away.
With his palms placed on the doorframe, he scanned the room. Until his eyes fell onto (Y/n) who was standing with her back faced towards the door where Chris was standing.
“(Y/n)?” He called her name multiple times. But she wouldn’t answer him. Chris walked forward, until he was within hand reach. Hoping she would hear him now.
“W-wh-at?” She stumbled quietly, what sounded more like a mumble. And she turned on her heels to face Chris. “Are you okay?” He asked, confused as she tried to avoid his gaze and started to pull the collar of her shirt.
Her hand went from her collar towards her forehead, touching it briefly as her hand was trembling. She walked back, towards the backdoor.
A few feet in front of the back door she stopped, as she placed her hand on the wall again. Her other hand was placed onto her chest as she pushed her back against the wall and let herself slide down the wall until her bum hit the ground.
Her breathing became more rapid each time she took a breath. Her lungs were burning, it felt like she had run for hours and she didn’t know how to stop. She held her hand onto her chest, hoping it would help her to slow her heartbeat down somehow.
“(Y/n)?” Chris asked as he watched her in that state. He knew something was wrong, and his dad taught him that if something was wrong, he needed to call him.
Christopher got as fast as he could to the landline phone as he held the phone to his ear and he started to dial Eddie’s phone. “Hey this is Edd-“ his voice spoke over the phone.
It was his voicemail.
Chris didn’t have time to leave him a message, he needed an adult who could help (Y/n). So he called the second best person who he’d trust. Christopher waited for the phone to ring, it didn’t take long or he answered the phone.
-
With his head leaning on his hands, his elbows pressing too hard into his thighs, he stared at the space between the two legs as his feet tapped softly against the concrete. Every second that ticked by felt like an hour, maybe even a day or a week. He didn’t know what to do with his hands. His sweaty hands moved from his face to the back of his neck as he tried to keep his cool.
His eyes shot up as he felt the back of Chimney’s hand slapping his arm. Buck didn’t even realize what was happening, and was standing on both his legs, watching Hen entering the room through the two sliding doors of the ER.
Buck placed one hand on his own thigh and wiped the remaining sweat of his hand, against the fabric of his uniform. His stomach turned at the sight of Hen, her head facing down to the concrete ground.
Hen stopped as she was close enough to the two firefighters. “And..?” Chimney asked, “W-what did she say?” Buck asked then right after him. A sigh rolled off Hen’s lips as she looked between Chimney and Buck. “I didn’t get much of a reaction, she only asked me “what?” and then basically when I explained what happened, it was completely silent. She did cut me off though.” Hen told the two.
Buck could read off Hen’s face that she was having a hard time with telling his sister the news. “She’s probably shocked about the news.” Buck tried to talk things right. It wasn’t like her, cutting off a conversation.
“Yeah, I guess so..” Hen mumbled as she reached for the second phone she had in her pocket, the one that belonged to Buck. “Here..” she continued as she fished out the phone from her back pocket and held it out to Buck. Silently, Buck accepted the phone from Hen.
“So.. what now?” Chimney asked to no one in particular. Hen shook her head as she tried to come up with some sort of plan. “Well, the engine is out of service.. We need to reach Bobby. We’ve been way too long on a coffee run.” she said.
“I think he beat you to it.” Chimney then said, and pointed towards the ER entrance. Bobby stepped inside, and the second he did, he spotted the rest of his team. “What the hell happened?” he said with his arms wide.
The phone, which was still in his hand, started to vibrate and his ringtone sounded through the waiting room. Buck quickly scanned the screen, who was trying to reach him?
Eddie - Home
Why was his sister calling him with the landline? He didn’t need to think twice, or his thumb swept across the accept icon and he walked towards the sliding doors with his phone against his ear.
“Hell-” Buck couldn’t finish his sentence as he could hear a young boy’s voice calling his sister’s name. Chris was calling him. Not his sister.
“Chris?” Buck asked through the phone, ”What’s happening Chris?” he added. It took a few seconds, but he got the attention of the boy.
“Buck help! Something is wrong with (Y/n)!” he then said loudly through the phone. “Chris? What’s wrong with her?” he asked as he walked back into the ER where the rest of his crew was.
“I think she’s hurt!” Chris then said, hurt? Hurt how? What the hell was happening on the other side of that phone?
“Chris, stay on the line with me. Can you tell me what is happening to (Y/n)?” Buck asked as he made a beeline to his crew, the three of them instantly turned around as they heard Buck loudly talk to Chris on the phone.
Buck turned the phone away from his face so Chris wouldn’t catch any of this conversation. “Bobby, I need the keys to the BC car” he said, he didn’t even make it sound like a question. Bobby furrowed his eyebrows. “Something is wrong, with (y/n). It’s an emergency.” he then said. And with that Bobby placed the keys in his hands.
Buck formed a fist as he pressed the keys into his hand, and made his way outside. “She’s gasping, It’s like she can’t breathe.” Chris tried to explain. His stomach made another turn as he heard Chris saying that. “Stay with her Chris, I’m on my way.” He told the boy, and with those words he stepped in the car and turned on the lights and sirens.
He needed to get to Eddie’s house as soon as he could, the Battalion chief SUV was luckily way faster than the engine. If he wasn’t driving the battalion chief SUV, he would’ve sure had a few speeding tickets.
The moment Buck pulled up at Eddie’s home, he drove the car on the driveway, put the car in park, got the keys and jumped out of the vehicle. He sped to the front door as he pushed the planter up that was on the porch, and fished the key from underneath it.
Eddie told him where he could find one spare key if he needed one in case of an emergency, he did have a spare key to Eddie’s house at home, and Eddie had one of Buck’s.
Buck placed the key in the lock and turned it, so he opened the door. “Chris?” He breathed heavily. The adrenaline in his body and the sprint from the car towards the door made him lose his own breath.
He scanned the room, nothing in the living room. He looked to his right, nobody in the hallway for the bedrooms. He took a few steps forward, as he closed the door. His eyes found the little boy standing in the kitchen at the table.
“Hey, hey! Are you okay?” he asked as he hurried towards the boy and crouched in front of him. “I tried calling her name, but she won’t answer.” he said with a sad tone. That’s when he could hear the gasping. But he needed to talk to Chris first.
“It’s okay buddy, you did great.” Buck said as he placed his hand onto the boy’s shoulder. “I'm going to help her, okay? Can you go to your room as I try to talk to her?” Buck asked. Chris slowly nodded, Buck stood up again as Chris walked out the kitchen.
There she was. With her pinned back against the wall, knees to her chest and her head facing down between the space of her knees and chest. Her breathing as if she had run a marathon for miles, mixed with cries.
He knew exactly what this was. A panic attack.
“(Y/n)?” he softly called her name, as he slowly crouched down in front of her. But she didn’t answer, just like Chris told him. “H-hey, hey, it’s okay.” He hushed her as he placed his right hand onto her shoulder, and his left hand on the single hand that was curled around her legs.
When his skin connected with his sisters’, she looked up. Her eyes filled with panic as the other hand on her chest was pressed onto her skin. But she wasn’t looking at him, it was like she was looking right through him like he was some kind of ghost.
“(Y/n)? Hey, hey, deep breaths okay?” Buck said as he tried to get the attention of his sister to turn to him. Her eyes focussed on her brother who was crouched down right in front of him. “You breathe in..” Buck continued as he tried to guide her through the breathing exercise he was doing.
“And hold…” he added as she tried to do what Buck was telling her to do. “And out..” he said as he let out a breath with those words. But no matter how often they did those exercises, (Y/n) her breathing wouldn’t slow down.
“N-not w-work-” she stumbled as she tried to make a full sentence. He knew she was right. He had to come up with a new idea to help her get her mind off the fact that she knew her boyfriend was shot.
Buck looked back, over his shoulder, searching for something; he didn’t even know what he was searching for. His eyes scanned the room as he held his hand on her shoulder and the other one on (Y/n)’s hand. Until his eyes fell on the dining table which was still filled with groceries.
“Hey, Eddie told me you needed to go to the grocery store.” he started. You may think, what the hell, this isn’t the time to do groceries. But this was worth a shot. Her eyebrows started to furrow slightly a bit, as she heard him asking that question.
“Tell me your list, what did you need at the store?” he continued as he tried to convince her to tell him her list. But again, she couldn’t answer. But she did hear him this time.
“Come on, I know you made a list up here..” he said as he tapped his skull. He knew she always made lists for everything, she did it when she was younger and after all those years, she had never stopped doing that.
“Okay, let’s start at the beginning of the store. You’re walking through those doors, we enter the fruit and vegetables area. What are you getting?” he asks her as he tries to help her visualize the grocery store in her mind.
“Um..” she stumbled as she tried to remember what was on her list, and visualize the store in her mind. “To-” she stopped as she pressed her eyes closed and groaned for a second. “To-tomatoes” she then stuttered. “Great for pasta sauces and salads, okay what do you need more?” he said.
“Um” she said as she kept her eyes on her brother and searched for the right products in her mind. “A-apples” (Y/n) continued, “For Chris’ his lunch.” Buck said as slowly a small smile appeared on his face.
It was working.
“And, uhm.. cauliflower” she added to her list. "Of course, your favorite. Can’t forget that one.” he chuckled softly. “Okay now.. tell me how bad of a chef I am.” Buck went on. He had her breathing normally, now he wanted her to smile. Just a small one.
“Come on, I know you want to.” he told her, a small laugh left her mouth. “Remember the time when I almost burned down the house because I left some foil in the microwave?” he then said. Trying to use one of his stupid stunts as a recourse to get his sister’s mind off Eddie.
Another laugh rolled off her lips as she remembered that moment. (Y/n) let out a breath again. She was no longer hyperventilating, the pressure on her chest had left her body and the tears weren’t streaming down her face anymore.
“There you go..” Buck said then as he rubbed her shoulder with his right hand. He had never helped anyone before through a panic attack. And he surely never had seen this happen with his sister before.
But he got her back.
_______
It felt like everything was happening in slow motion, ever since they had gotten the call about Eddie getting out of surgery. The car ride, she was pretty sure Chris was asking Buck questions about Eddie. But she couldn’t catch any of those words as she watched every house, every person walking down the street and every tree passing by.
Not only the car ride felt that way, the moment she walked through those glass sliding doors of the ER, every hug she got from Eddie’s crew, everything they said. Everything was like a haze.
Buck escorted his sister and Chris through the hallway of the hospital, into the elevator. As soon as Buck calmed (Y/n) down, they took things slow. Buck tried to answer all the questions Chris had about everything: about (Y/n), why he wasn’t at work, why his dad didn’t answer his call. All such questions.
But the only thing Buck could say about Eddie was that he had been hurt on the job. That was the easiest way to explain the situation to Christopher. It has been hours, the sun went down, but Eddie finally had gotten out of surgery. That was the most important thing.
(Y/n) fidgeted with her ring on her right index finger with her left hand as they waited for the elevator to get them to the correct level of the hospital. Her mouth let out a sigh as she heard the elevator make a “ding” sound, telling them they had arrived on the right floor.
It was almost like the hallways didn’t stop. There were so many rooms, doors and corners. It was more like a maze than a hallway.
Her brother pointed towards an open hospital room door as they almost reached the correct room. The first thing (Y/n) spotted were the two women in the room, Eddie’s abuela and tia were here. But as soon as the two of them turned their bodies to look over their shoulders, a half awake Eddie was in her vision.
His eyes were barely open, his left hand had an IV in it, there was an oxygen tube underneath his nose and the monitor on the side of his bed was keeping track of his vitals. A weak smile appeared on his face as his son and the woman he loved the most stepped into his hospital room.
Chris happily moves as fast as he can to get to his dad, as (Y/n) just takes one small step into the room. She doesn't know why, but she keeps a distance from him for a second. She wanted Chris to have his moment with his dad, especially after what happened back at home. The moment she scared the living daylight out of Chris by her reaction.
(Y/n) could hear her own heartbeat in her ears as she felt her body doing almost the exact same thing as it did earlier that day.
The little boy placed his head lightly on his shoulder, as Eddie placed his hand carefully on the back of his head. “Hey bud” Eddie mumbled as he placed a small kiss on Chris' head. Eddie had his eyes locked on his girl, as he motions with his hand for her to come over.
She hesitates for a second, but eventually she gives in. She made her way towards Eddie, and curled her arms around his body. She could feel the feeling of panic and fear fade away as soon as she felt his arm locked around her body too and she took in his smell.
“I’m okay.. It’s okay..” he whispered as he could feel her arms curling tighter and tighter around his skin instead of loosening. Small sobbing sounds were coming from her mouth as she felt the tears falling down her eyes, onto her cheek and onto his ugly hospital gown.
Eddie’s hand traced slowly and calmly over her back. He placed a kiss on the side of her head as he tried to calm her down.
The others in the room could sense the emotional load that was rushing over the two. Tia motioned with her hand towards the rest of the people in the room, and then pointed to the door. They were going to give the two of them some time alone.
She didn’t want to let go.
Buck briefly placed his hand onto his sister's shoulder as he made his way out of the room together with Chris, Eddie’s tia and abuela. Eddie was sure he could hear Chris ask Buck a quiet “Why are we leaving?”. But he knew Buck could handle this.
After a few moments (Y/n) loosened her grip on the hug, she let go of Eddie and sat down in the chair next to his bed. She wipes her left hand slowly but carefully underneath her eyes to get rid of the tears, as Eddie held her right hand and his thumb rubbed over the back of her hand.
“Mi amor.. are you okay? You seem.. absent." he asks, as he keeps his eyes on (Y/n). Her eyes were locked on their hands, as a sigh rolled off her lips.
She tried to suppress her emotions as she pressed her lips together. He could practically guess the answer to that question, but he needed to hear it from her.
“No” she whispered as she turned her head away, trying to avoid his gaze. “I’m so sorry” her trembling voice continued.
Eddie's eyebrows furrowed at the words that came out of her mouth. What was she sorry for? Why was she apologizing? She didn’t do anything?
“What are you talking about?” Eddie asked as he tried his best to let the words come out easily and keep his eyes open from the anesthesia.
“When Hen called me, telling me what happened to you, it was like my whole world stopped.” She said as she found the courage to tell him what happened.
Eddie stayed silent as he held her hand even tighter.
“I felt like I was dying, I couldn’t control my breathing and my heart..-“ she stopped as she pressed her free hand onto her chest. “I-it felt like a heart attack” she said.
“A-a panic attack” Eddie concluded. Of course he tried to match the symptoms with the right diagnosis. She nodded slowly.
“I think I scared him, Eddie. He came into the kitchen when it happened.” she explains and looks down to the floor. “I’m so sorry” she cried.
Eddie couldn’t do anything since he was hooked up to the monitors and tubes. “It’s not your fault mi amor ” he said weakly, looking to his side, as he watched her in the chair next to his bed.
“It was a human reaction, you couldn't have known that you would’ve reacted like that.” He told her as he squeezed her hand, making her look at him now. “And for all it's worth.. I think you’re going to be a great mom one day.” he added.
She still looked sad. She still felt bad for the way she reacted, and scared the living daylight out of Eddie’s son. The fact that her brother had to come over and help her calm down again, made her feel like a little kid again.
“Come here” he said as it went silent for a bit and let go of her hand.
He could sense that she’s still worried about it. The confusion was visible on her entire face, questioning if it was right what she heard her boyfriend say.
Eddie moved slowly a little more to the other side as he made more space and patted his hand on the mattress. “Come on” he said as he connected his eyes with hers.
“Eddie.. I don’t want to hurt you” she whispered as she looked at him with some kind of puppy eyes. “You won’t” he answered.
“Eddie-“ she wanted to tell him this wasn’t a good idea, it was better for her to stay in the chair or go home with Chris. “Just get in the bed” he said.
She stood up from her chair as she sat down on the hospital bed and laid down on her side, trying to avoid hurting her boyfriend. (Y/n) placed her head on his chest, trying to avoid putting too much pressure on his skin.
Eddie’s fingers slowly traced up and down on her skin, and switched between making little drawings and little lines. (Y/n) could hear Eddie’s heartbeat, which made the anxiety in her body go away.
They just laid there. For minutes, maybe even hours. It didn’t matter. There were probably people waiting, wanting to see Eddie. But at this moment, he had one mission, and that was being there for his girlfriend.
“Marry me” he broke the silence, the words just left Eddie’s lips like a whisper, not wanting to be too loud in the silence they experienced for minutes. He felt the weight on his skin become lighter.
She heard him. But he wasn’t sure if he wanted her to hear those words.
(Y/n) placed her hand onto his chest as she pushed her body up for a bit, to make eye contact with him, looking at him as if he was speaking Chinese.
“When I get out of here. Will you marry me?” He then asked again, but this time with more certainty in his voice.
He wanted this, whatever he was feeling, besides the morphine and anesthesia, to be forever.
A frown popped up on her face. “Eddie, on a scale from one to ten, how high are you on pain meds right now?” she asked him dead serious.
“Probably a twelve..” he said weakly as he tried to keep his eyes connected with hers. She chuckled for a second. “I’m sure this is the pain meds talking” she answered.
“No, I’m serious. Marry me.” He then said again, more determined than ever. “Ed-” but she got cut off by him. “(Y/n) I’m not joking. I want you to be in my life, in Chris’ life. I want to call you my wife.” He just blurted out.
A smile appeared on her face, “Are you serious?” she asked, she needed a double check. “Dead serious.” He then answered.
She placed her chin onto her hand that was still on his chest and sighed. “Then, I’d be honored to call you my future husband.” She smiled, and pressed a kiss to his lips.
“Te amo..” he mumbled as he felt her warm hand on his cheek and smiled at the touch.

Something cute:
Jee gives Uncle Tommy a friendship bracelet she's made, and Tommy's still wearing it a few days later when Buck fetches him from work (it's the first Buck heard about it).
Bonus if Tommy mentions that the guys at work have been trying to give him grief about it but Tommy doesn't give a damn, it's a present from his niece! 🤣❤️
Sorry for taking so long to get to this. This was a super cute one to do 😊
As always you can send me a bucktommy or saltommy prompt to my ask. Smut, fluff or whimp or a mix. Whatever you want.

“Sorry Maddie I have to leave for my shift in like 30 mins.” Buck said
“What’s up?” Tommy asked.
“Maddie needs to run a couple of errands for an hour but Jees daycare is closed so she needs a sitter.”
Tommy removed the phone from Bucks hand without a word.
“Hey Maddie.”
“Tommy, hi! How are you?”
“I’m good. Listen, my shift doesn’t start for another 4 hours if you need someone look after Jee for an hour.”
“Oh my god, really? Are you sure?”
“Of course. I mean, if you’re okay with that?” He asked just to be sure. He loved spending time with Maddie and Jee but he hadn’t done so before without Evan being there.
“Oh please. If you handle my brother you can handle a four year old.”
“Ain’t that the truth.” He said smirking at Buck.
“What?” He mouthed in response. Tommy simply winked at him. Buck would be mad if it wasn’t so fucking hot when he did that.
“Uh, I can be there in about 40 minutes?”
“Tommy you’re my hero!”
“I’ll see you soon.
“Bye! Thank you again!”
“Did you just offer to babysit Jee?” Buck asked.
“Yeah, why?”
“I.. you’re just really amazing, you know that?” Buck said with a soft smile.
“It’s nothing, Evan. You’re my family, which makes her, them, my family too. Of course I’d help.” He kissed Bucks temple and got up to finish packing his bag.
Family. He’d said it so nonchalantly. They hadn’t said anything as serious between each other yet, although Buck had been dancing around the ‘L’ word for weeks like a world class ballet dancer; desperate to say it yet utterly terrified of saying it.
It was going to be even trickier to not let it slip out when Tommy says such sweet shit like calling his family his family.
They finished packing their stuff and separated for the following 48 hours thanks to their shifts for once actually lining up for a full week - 48 on, then 72 hours off. Together.
Tommy arrived at Maddie’s to a very excited Jee-yun grabbing his hand and dragging him over to the coffee table to show him what she was doing.
“I’m sorry she’s in a very important friendship bracelet making phase right now.” Maddie told him.
“Well that’s just perfect because I love friendship bracelets!” He said in an exaggerated way for Jees benefit.
“You do?!” Jee asked
“Of course!”
Maddie stopped by the door for a moment just watching the way Tommy was with her. Every time he’d been over with her brother he always made time to indulge whatever she wanted his attention for. A little picture in her head of her brothers future flew by and she smiled at the thought.
“You okay?” Tommy asked pulling her back to reality.
“Uh, yeah. I should be no more than an hour. You have mine and howies numbers and everyone else’s are on the fridge just in case. Bye baby! Be good for Tommy!”
“So.. what bracelet are we making?” He asked Jee.
“For you!”
“For me?” She nodded. “Okay. How about you pick the colours and tell me what it should say and I’ll thread it together. Sound good?”
“Yeah!”
*
“Now that is the best friendship bracelet I have ever seen! Don’t you think?” Tommy held his wrist up to Jee to inspect their work.
“And the prettiest!”
“I agree! Good job.” He held out his hand for a high five which of course she gave him.
***
2 days later Buck was picking up Tommy from work and though exhausted from his own gruelling shift he was practically vibrating at the prospect of 72 uninterrupted hours with his lo- boyfriend.
“Hey babe.” He greeted Tommy getting in his car.
“Hey baby.” Tommy leaned over and pressed a quick kiss on the corner of Bucks mouth. “Good shift?”
“Exhausting. Please tell me you feel like take out? I don’t have the energy to cook?”
“Pizza?”
“This is why I-“ he stopped himself. Again. “-why were, uh, perfect for each other. You read my mind.”
45 minutes later they’d arrived at Bucks apartment and were getting undressed to shower. Something caught bucks eye as Tommy removed his shirt and undershirt in one pull.
“Hold up.” He lightly grabbed Tommys wrist, inspecting the glittery pink and white letter beads threaded around the elastic. “What’s this?”
“Oh.” Tommy smiled fondly. “Jee wanted to make friendship bracelets when I baby sat her the other day. I promised her I wouldn’t take it off. The guys at the station have been riding my ass about for the last 2 days.” He laughed.
Bucks finger tip glided across the letters “Uncle Tommy.” He read out loud and looked at him.
“Yeah.” He laughed “She told me what she wanted on it.”
Buck just looked at him with the softest eyes.
“What?”
“Just so I understand correctly: you offered to babysit my 4 year old niece, you willingly made friendship bracelets with her, including her calling you uncle Tommy, promised you wouldn’t take it off, then kept that promise when your colleagues make fun of you even though she wouldn’t know if you’d taken it off?”
“I would know, Evan, and I promised i wouldn’t.”
Buck threw his arms around Tommys neck and planted a firm few kisses onto Tommys lips.
“Hmm. What was that for?” He smiled.
“Because I love you.”
Tommy face morphed into a bigger smile. “I love you too.” He kissed Buck back for a few seconds before pulling away. “I’d love you more if you order the damn pizza - I’m starving!”

Re-Do | Bucktommy
Buck and Tommy are standing just inside Harbor’s helicopter hangar. There’s a duffle bag in Tommy’s hand and Buck is looking pensively at the chopper waiting for Tommy. It feels eerily similar to standing outside the LAX terminal saying goodbye to Abby all those years ago. Even though Buck knows that Tommy isn’t leaving indefinitely; it’s just a special deployment to Vegas because there’s a wildfire that’s gotten out of hand. Two weeks tops, then I'll be back, you won’t even have time to miss me. Tommy said to Buck as they drove to the station.
“Baby? Did you hear me?” Tommy asks and Buck comes back to the present turning to Tommy.
“Huh? Sorry, I was lost in thought-” Buck sighs.
“Clearly,” Tommy laughs and grabs Buck’s hand. “I should be going, I’ll be home in no time, okay? Thanks for driving me.”
Dropping his shoulders in a slouch, Buck breathes out, “Yeah, yeah, okay.” He pulls Tommy in close by the hand to kiss him soundly. “Come back to me,” Buck whispers against Tommy’s lips.
“Always, baby.” Tommy smiles at his boyfriend and understands his worries - Buck is used to being left, but he also knows not to bring attention to it. “I’ll call when I land, okay?” Buck nods, there’s still tension in his brow. “Hey, I love you. Miss you already,” Tommy says and presses one more hard kiss to Buck’s lips.
“Love you too, be safe,” Buck smiles and Tommy makes his way to the chopper, his hand staying connected to Tommy’s as long as possible.
Stuck in horrendous LA rush hour traffic, Buck gets a call from Tommy just over an hour after leaving him at Harbor. “Hey, babe. You landed already? That was fast. I’m still stuck on the 5.”
“Oh yeah, the perks of having access to a helicopter. Just touched down at the Vegas airport. That giant LED sphere thing freaks me out. It has a face on it and its eyes followed my helicopter as I flew by. Did you see the picture I sent?” Buck sneaks a peek at his phone and sees a picture of the giant dome on the strip from Tommy’s point of view, and sure enough the eyes of the face were looking straight up at Tommy’s chopper.
“It knew you were flying and wanted to get a good look at the hot pilot,” Buck laughs and Tommy scoffs.
“I don’t like it,” Tommy says, totally deadpan. “Huh? Yeah, my boyfriend,” Tommy says to someone else and it still makes Buck’s heart flutter hearing the designation coming from Tommy so casually. “Garcia says hi,” Tommy turns his attention back to Buck. “I’ll text later, just letting you know I landed safely, don’t miss me too much.”
“You know I will,” Buck says, putting on a whiney voice. “Talk soon, baby.” He hangs up the phone with Tommy and feels lighter.
Tommy was right, Buck didn’t have time to miss him between work and taking up Maddie on babysitting requests. Also Tommy is in constant communication with him; they text more often than when Tommy’s home. Tommy texts him updates on containment of the fire and silly selfies and Buck will send pictures of him and Jee doing various things like tea parties or coloring.
Ten days in, Buck is at the station fresh off the phone with Tommy. “How’s that Vegas fire?” Bobby asks.
“It’s about 70% contained so they’ll be releasing the out of state firefighters first," Buck says, unable to contain his giddy smile.
Buck is still looking down at his phone so he doesn’t catch Bobby’s knowing smile. Tommy called Bobby about two hours ago saying he’s on his way back and wants to surprise Buck at the station so don’t tell him.
Bobby checks his phone, seeing a message from Tommy that he’s five minutes away.
Still here, Bobby texts back, willing the alarm not to go off. They’re all up in the kitchen relaxing. When the five minutes pass Bobby goes to the railing and looks down and sees Tommy walk into the open garage. He immediately spots Bobby and gives him a two fingered salute.
“Hey, Buck seems like you have a visitor,” Bobby shouts over to Buck standing at the sink. Buck perks up and jogs over next to Bobby and honest to god gasps when he sees Tommy downstairs. He flies down the stairs, taking them two at a time like he can’t get to Tommy fast enough. “Oh my god, you’re here! I thought you’d said at least one more day!” Tommy catches Buck in his arms and stumbles a few steps with the momentum.
“Well you said come back to you, so I asked to be released early and they let me go,” Tommy says laughing into Buck’s neck.
The smell and feel of Tommy’s arms locked around him makes Buck feel at home, feel more grounded. With an arm locked around Tommy’s neck, Buck kisses him a little less chaste than probably appropriate for being at work, but he hasn’t kissed Tommy in ten days and needs to make up for lost time.
They break apart and Buck rubs his nose against Tommy’s smiling until his cheeks hurt. “Come up upstairs, everyone’s here, at least until the next call,” Buck says and pulls Tommy up the stairs by the hand.
Tommy settles on a barstool at the kitchen island and tells everyone about the job in Vegas; recounts all the exciting bits with enthusiasm. All the while one arm securely wrapped around Buck’s waist and gesturing with the other. Buck’s eyes never leave Tommy and his smile never falters, asking questions that spark more details and exciting moments of the trip.
“It’s been almost nine months and they still look like they're in the honeymoon phase,” Hen notes to Chim.
“That’s what happens when you find your person. Trust me I’m sure I look like that with Maddie and you look at Karen like that too,” Chim remarks. He discreetly snaps a candid photo of them and sends it to Maddie. Guess who’s back early, he texts the photo to Maddie.
***
Buck’s sits heavily on the couch- today was a long day to say the least. A call came in at 3am, on his 21st hour of his shift and as he was lowering himself down on a rope he slipped and grabbed the rope at the exact wrong time, dislocating his right shoulder. He screamed out in the white hot flash of pain and fell until the harness caught him. They used one of the ambulances to transport him to the emergency room.
Two hours later Tommy escorts him from the car into his house and onto the couch. Buck’s arm is in a sling and even with the pain meds the pain still radiates from his shoulder. Buck groans and leans his head back on the couch, just another injury that will put him out of work. His mind flashbacks to his whole leg in a cast and him being couch-ridden as Ali told him she can’t handle the risk his job comes with.
As he’s spiraling Tommy comes into the living room with a mug of hot tea for Buck. “Pain that bad, baby? You look miserable right now. I thought they gave you a good dose before we left.”
Realizing that his face is being way too loud at the moment, Buck softens his brow and opens his eyes. “Oh no, it’s dulled pretty good, I was just thinking about- you know what it’s dumb. Forget it,” he sighs and drags a hand down his face. Tommy sets the tea down and sits next to Evan on the couch, lining up their legs.
“Hey, whatever it is, it’s not dumb. However big or small, I wanna know what’s going on,” Tommy says to him and waits patiently for whatever Evan is willing to divulge.
”I- uh. It’s just, remember Ali? I was with her when the ladder truck fell on my leg, scared the shit out of her apparently and the day I got home from the hospital she broke up with me. She couldn’t handle the stress and worry that comes with the job,” Buck explains. He reaches for the tea just to keep his attention on something other than Tommy for a moment.
“I see. And I’m guessing this situation reminds you of that?” Tommy asks and Buck nods minutely. “Well, I hope you know I’m not going anywhere. I hate to see you hurt of course, but the nice thing is I know exactly what the risks are. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve dislocated something.” Buck finally meets Tommy’s eyes and sees a ghost of a smile on his lips. Something about Tommy’s unwavering steadiness and calm washes away any doubt Buck has.
Three days later Tommy catches Buck rubbing at the unkept beard coming in on his jaw. He wraps around Buck and quietly asks, “getting a little scruffy, I kind of like actually.” Buck laughs at that and reaches for his electric razor. The weight feels awkward in his left hand.
“It gets itchy like this,” Buck notes and frowns at the razor. Tommy releases him and opens the medicine cabinet and takes out a regular metal razor and shaving cream.
“Let me,” he says and maneuvers Buck so he’s turned around and leaning against the sink. Tommy spreads the foam gently and meticulously along Buck’s jaw, mouth, and chin. “The old fashioned way- always gets a closer shave,” Tommy says barely above a whisper.
There’s something so intimate about Tommy shaving him. Maybe it’s the way Tommy’s thumb and forefinger holding his chin, or the way his eyes are zeroed in on the path of the razor scraping down Buck’s cheek, or the way his eyes flick to Buck’s and causes him to smile or wink. It’s a simple act that makes Buck feel so precious in Tommy’s hands. Maybe he can stand the sling for a little while longer.
***
”Fuck him, Fuck him,” Buck spits out as he paces around Tommy’s kitchen. “That motherfucker thinks he’s above human decency!”
“You wanna tell me what happened?” Tommy says calmly despite the rising anger in his chest. He’s never surprised now about Gerrard’s new slight, but wishes he could shield Buck and 118 from that.
“It isn’t anything that can be reported really, it’s all the microaggressions, all his fucking snide ass comments. It just gets under my skin and makes me hate work,” Buck sits heavily at the island and groans into his hands. “I feel like he singles me out because he knows you and I are together. All these homophobic-adjacent comments, like he wants to rile me up and just UGH. Fuck him.”
Tommy hates Gerrard, but even more hates that he’s making his boyfriend miserable. An idea comes to him.
“I‘ll talk to the fire chief, remind him why Gerrard got transferred out of the 118 in the first place,” Tommy suggests. Buck looks up in a panic.
“No-no, that’ll only make things worse, you know how long these complaints take to actually make a difference. Once Gerrard gets wind of the complaints, he’ll get even worse,” Buck rushes out.
“Babe, if there’s a way I could help I want to, I can’t just stand on the sidelines while he’s making your life hell,” Tommy tries.
Buck stands and walks to the other side of the counter and smooths his hands along Tommy’s shoulders, seeing the tension release. They’re silent for a few minutes, searching each other’s eyes, trying their best to communicate all their worries and needs.
“Don’t,” Buck says with finality. Tommy huffs and presses his mouth into a thin line. “I know you want to fix this, but I don’t want you involved with him. Again. So, I’m asking you to keep this here.”
“Okay,” Tommy says with a nod and a squeeze to Buck’s waist. Buck thanks him with a kiss to the nose.
A week or so later Buck walks through the door exhausted and irritable. He’s making it a regular habit of going straight to Tommy’s after work because he needs the comfort of his boyfriend.
Tommy envelopes him in a tight hug, “I can guess, but how was work?”
“Shitty is the new normal. Gerrard will never change and I have to just get through it. At least everyone else hates him too,” Buck mumbles into the soft fabric of Tommy’s t-shirt.
“Ah yes, nothing like strengthening a bond by the power of collective disdain,” Tommy replies scratching down Buck’s back making him hum in response.
Buck realizes that nothing has changed since his last rant about Gerrard to Tommy and leans back to look at Tommy’s face inquisitively.
“Nothing’s changed,” Buck says. “You didn’t do anything.” At first Tommy’s confused but he remembers the conversation they had.
“I didn’t. You asked me not to. Did you think I’d go behind your back?”
You asked me not to. Like it was simple, like Tommy didn’t need clarification or a deeper reason. Just because he asked Tommy not to do something, he didn’t.
“I-I, I’m just surprised I guess? So many people think they know what’s best for me and go around me to do what they think is right despite what I’ve said.” Buck looks shocked but pleased. Tommy just smiles at him,
“I can’t speak for everyone, Evan, but I trust you. You know what you’re doing. Yes I always want to help and be there for you, but I know you’re more than capable of taking care of yourself. And I love you very much because of that.” Tommy pecks Buck’s lips.
“And I love you for listening and taking my word for it,” Buck grins, knowing that with Tommy he’s on equal ground. The irritation of the day is completely melted away and forgotten. Buck slides his hands up Tommy’s chest and shoulders to clasp his hands around the back of his neck.
”Now do you wanna listen to what I’m thinking about doing to you to let off some steam?” Buck quirks his left eyebrow and bites his lip, knowing Tommy’s eyes will follow.
Tommy leans in and noses along the jut of Buck’s jaw and says into his ear, “all ears, baby.”

But what was their reaction when they first watched euphoria? Like what was sweet Amelia saying? Doing? Good lord. The absolute hatred they would express for Jacob elordi, like “let’s kill him” was said from someone in the room but no one will confess to it.
WOHO! George Russell, the man that you are! I hope you guys enjoy reading this and send me some request!
-XoXo
No Part 2!!!
Mount Everest ain't got shit on me
At first, everything was great. The drivers and WAGs were all thrilled for Amira when she announced her new role in a series called Euphoria. No one thought it was strange that she wouldn’t discuss the plot or her character. The only thing she ever said was, “Maddy is a badass. A real G.” So you can imagine their reactions when the first episode aired.
The drivers, the WAGs, and Roscoe were all gathered in Lewis’s room, scattered around as they waited for the episode to start. Lily and Carmen were excitedly gossiping about the other actors in the series. “Amira told me that Maddy is with Nate, who is played by Jacob Elordi. Guess what? Jacob and Zendaya used to date,” whispered Carmen, eliciting a huge gasp from the other women. Lily’s reaction caused Kika, Lily Z., and Rebecca to crowd around them, all sharing the latest celebrity and paddock gossip. “Is it true that Carlos is going to be the next safety car driver?” asked Lily Z. innocently. Rebecca looked at her confused, while the other three tried to hide their laughter.
Before Rebecca could defend her boyfriend, the opening scene of Euphoria started. And boy, was it an episode. When Amira said that Maddy was a ‘badass,’ they didn’t realize that Maddy Perez was a barely clothed, hot-looking goddess who didn’t shy away from using vulgar language. While the others were impressed by Amira’s acting, Carlos was speechless.
Why didn’t they give her more clothes to wear? And whose idea was the pool scene? Why did Amira’s character have such a bad boyfriend? Is this even allowed? Could he sue the producers? These thoughts were running through poor Carlos’s head. Meanwhile, the others enjoyed watching Amira on screen. Well, they enjoyed almost everything. After the first few Nate scenes, it was clear they didn’t like him.
“I just don’t understand it,” muttered Oscar, hugging a pillow close to himself. Charles, who sat next to him, agreed wholeheartedly. “Yeah, why would Maddy be with him? She deserves much better than this idiot.” “I mean, if I were part of this show, I would treat her like a queen. I would get her flowers every day and walk her home. On rainy days, we would cuddle up, watching one of her favorite movies. And then after date nights, I would take her to bed, kiss her, and we would have a night filled with passion and love…” Pierre said dreamily, a love-sick smile on his face. Kika, sitting on his right, just looked at him with a straight face, saying dryly, “Thanks. Thanks a lot, babe.”
The drivers and WAGs were so engrossed in watching that they didn’t notice Lando taking pictures of Amira every time she was on screen. When he lowered his camera again, he found himself looking straight into George’s eyes. “I—” he couldn’t even defend himself. George just looked him up and down, raising an eyebrow before turning his attention back to the screen and rolling his eyes. Never in his life had Lando felt so humiliated. It was a look that said, “Watch me and my girlfriend become a happy throuple with the girl you’re in love with. You stand no chance against us, Lando Norizz.”
After the end of the first episode, there was silence for a moment. "We should kill Nate" said someone (cough, Alex, cough). For a moment, they all thought the idea over. "I mean, it's just a TV series" tried Rebecca. "Yeah, but if Nate doesn't exist anymore, he can't be mean to Maddy, alias our Amira" stated Carmen, almost sounding bored to even have to explain. "Perhaps, we don't have to kill anyone. But if he wouldn't be found anymore" tried Oscar. Before anyone could say anything else, Charles proclaimed: "I know a guy for situations like this. He can help us. He won't ask any questions and will get the job done. Nice and clean." They all looked at Charles. "What the fuck" beeing the only thing said.
Safe to say, even though they loved seeing Amira on screen (not Carlos, he didn’t like the TV show), they hated Nate. And Checo? He thought because Maddy’s last name is Perez, he and Amira are now related, making him smile like the sun. Whatever helps him sleep at night, I guess.

Hi! Could I please request a 911 fic, please? Reader is Buck and Maddie’s little sister and is dating Eddie. She goes for a hike and falls, maybe just like a broken leg and concussion... but she has to call 911 and is freaking out a little and Maddie does her best to calm her down til the 118 gets there. Then lots of fluff with the guys. Maybe they show up at her apartment the next day to help her out with things and binge some tv with her. Thank you in advance!

summary: request
eddie diaz x buckley!reader
a/n: tysm for the request, hope you enjoy 💗
y/n thought it was common sense to not disturb the wildlife in the trail. there were signs everywhere, you had to be blind to miss them. blind or stupid, at least. she also knew that the group of teenage girls had ignored the sign, trying to run after the deer and scare them away.
it was her one day off. it wasn’t a huge day to go to the hiking paths, so she went when it wasn’t busy. however, the mob of juveniles came across like they were the only people to exist, shoving anyone and anything out of their way. y/n had fallen victim in their path of destruction. she had been firmly distracted on the panicked deer, being able to outrun their pictures and harassment.
stupidly, her food stumbled on a pit, twisting her ankle as she fell down the rocky hill. she felt the massive rock jab her head, leaving a pitchy ringing in her ears. the fall had turned her leg in ways that it shouldn’t turn. finally, after what felt like minutes of falling, she landed on her back on the dusty floor of the woods. she lay there panting for a few moments, hoping someone would have seen her fall, but there wasn’t anyone but the excited shouting of the girls. she basically had no other choice but to fish her phone out of her pocket. she was so discombobulated and facing pain that she could only manage to type the three numbers.
“9-1-1, what is your emergency?” the voice of y/n’s older sister came through the phone, making y/n’s heart race in relief.
“maddie! oh, jesus,” she groans. “so, funny story, i just fell on my hike and i bashed my head on a rock, and then my leg did a weird thing and now it hurts like a bitch so i don’t r-“
“y/n?” she could tell the panicked voice of her sister. “wha- ok, first, tell me what trail you’re on.”
“i’m on the northeast trail at brush canyon,” y/n informs, despite the throbbing ache in her skull.
“alright, i’m sending units to you now, but stay on the phone with me?”
“i will. god, those girls were just running like maniacs an-“
“hey, hey, calm down, y/n. you’re going to be fine, just don’t get too riled up, yeah? police and rescue are 3 minutes away from your location now.”
“thank you, maddie,” y/n says into the phone, starting to calm down and grow more tired.
“of course, that’s why i’m here. the police should pull up in a minute, i love you,”
“i love you too, maddie,” maddie hangs up the phone, leaving her to buck and eddie now. they came to check the safety of the trail after hearing about the pits, and the concerns of people tripping and tumbling down the hills. when buck saw his little sister on the ground, his heart stopped.
“y/n?” he shouted, sliding down the hill and next to y/n’s body.
“heyyy, buck,” she says, being given pain medicine by chimney. “oh, i fell by the way.”
“eddie!” he yells, calling for her boyfriend as he walks down to see her too.
“what the hell happened?” he asks, completely alarmed by her state on the ground. “hey, are you ok?”
“splendid. not the best hike, but i’ll just leave a bad review. and someone tell those bitches to stop running after the deer!”
“alright, she’s fine,” buck laughs, getting his sisters personality back as they lift her onto the stretcher. bobby allows buck and eddie to travel with her to the hospital, as her eyes close in the back.
“i’m not sleeping, i’m just resting my eyes.”
“y/n, you probably should sleep,” buck tells her.
“yeah, baby, you hit your head pretty good,” eddie adds. he smiles at y/n’s scrunched eyebrows and shut eyes as she just continues to fall asleep one minutes later.
the doctors had confirmed that she did fracture her patella, and would be limited in movement for a few weeks. she had a light concussion from the impact on her head, but she’d heal perfectly fine. it wasn’t really anything to worry about.
she returned back to her apartment with maddie, helping her carry her things back in with the crutches. “thanks, maddie.”
“don’t thank me, just please be careful now,” she begs. “i don’t want you to push yourself like evan did and get all worked up.”
“i’m fine, maddie, i swear.”
“ok,” she concludes. “i have to go to work, but if you need anything in the world, call me or buck or eddie and i’m sure someone will help you. are you sure you don’t need anything?”
“maddie, get out of my apartment and go to work. i am fine!”
“alright, i love you. i’ll see you soon,” she says, shutting the door behind her as y/n sits on the couch, leaning her new crutches against it. she finally gets settled watching some old random reruns from tlc, getting invested in it when she realizes that she has to eat something with her new medicine. she tries to figure out something, when she hears an abrupt knock on her door. she limps over with her crutches, revealing a grinning buck and eddie by her door with a bag of food.
“we come with food!” buck smiles. “your favorite! cheesecake factory!”
“you guys did not have to do this,” she says, letting them come in and placing a kiss on eddie’s lips.
“well, we wanted you to have anything you need,” eddie tells her.
“i appreciate, i really do.”
“good, so what do you need done?” eddie asks. y/n thinks about what she could get away with, and manages to make them clean her entire kitchen. they did it willingly, so it’s nothing but a win for her.
“perfect! now, come eat with me and watch this show i found,” she beams, crutching over to the couch and placing the bag of food in front of her on the coffee table.
“what are we watching?” buck asks, starting to crack open his takeout box.
“i’m not really sure, some guy making cakes in new jersey,” she presses the volume as the voice of the man comes through the speakers. she sits back with her plate of food, looking at her two favorite boys in the world.

Tommy pushed the door open and helped Evan into his loft, holding the majority of his weight, a pharmacy bag hanging loosely at his other side.
"Easy, nice and slow." He kicked the door closed behind them, dropping the bag to the floor and stopping so Evan could catch his breath. The trip from the car up to the fourth floor had taken its toll on him, his breath coming out in short pants against Tommy's neck. "Couch, or bed?"
"Couch is fine." He huffed out, closing his eyes for a second before nodding, showing Tommy he was ready to start moving again.
"All your weight on me, okay?" They carried on the same way until they finally reached the couch, Tommy lowering Evan down slowly, making sure to keep his bad leg off the ground. Once he was sat down, he grabbed two of the cushions from the arm chair so that Evan could elevate his leg.
"Thank you." Evan sighed heavily, leaning his head back as he tried to get his breathing back under control, Tommy taking this time to head to the kitchen. Maddie had texted him before he picked Evan up from the hospital to let him know she had stocked his fridge and cupboards, so they should be good for a few days. He knew Evan was just about due another round of painkillers, so he grabbed an electrolyte drink from the fridge and then ran to the entryway, picking the bag up and depositing it on the kitchen side.
He chose for the time being to put aside the burn ointment, knowing he would need to redress Evan's bandages later on, but would wait until his pain had subsided some and he had at least had a nap. Taking out two painkillers, he headed back to Evan and knelt down next to his head, watching as he turned his head to the side, sending Tommy a small smile.
"Hi." He whispered, Tommy's heart fluttering.
"Hey. I have your painkillers and a drink for you." Placing a kiss on Evan's forehead, Tommy helped him sit up, leaving him to take the pills while he reached over the back of the couch for Evan's large throw blanket, draping it over his frame. "You should get some rest." Evan nodded and took one last swig of his drink before screwing the lid on and popping the bottle on the coffee table, staring up at Tommy who was standing at his head, arms hovering as if wanting to reach out and say something.
Buck knew he probably had somewhere to be, and was just making sure he didn't need anything else before he headed out for the night, but Buck was a pro at tending to his own injuries alone.
This, unfortunately, was not his first rodeo.
"I'm good Tommy, you can go if you need to."
"What? You want me to leave?" The frown on Tommy's face was adorable. Buck had grown to love kissing away his frown lines, using his mouth to literally turn his frown upside down.
"I mean, no, of course I don't want you to leave, but I'm home now. You don't have to hover, I'm more than capable of handling the rest on my own." Tommy crouched down near Buck's head and he chose now to pout, tilting his head up to try and catch Tommy's lips, but the man didn't move any closer, staying at arms length away from Buck which just would not do. "Babe seriously, I'm fine, but I won't be fine if you don't at least give me a kiss goodbye."
"I'm not giving you a kiss goodbye, Evan, because I am not going anywhere." Now it was Buck's turn to frown, his pout dropping off his face. "You really think I would just drop you off here and then head out for the night? You've just spent three days in the hospital, I'm not going anywhere unless you choose to kick me out your front door yourself."
"But- I'm fine?" His response came out as more of a question than a statement. Buck wasn't fine, he knew that. He had some pretty nasty burns, on his bad leg as well, and would probably be in a decent amount of pain for a while, but he was home now, and that was a start. He wasn't about to let Tommy waste away while he got better, Tommy didn't sign up for that. "You didn't sign up to be stuck looking after me, Tommy."
"And you didn't sign up for a crazy guy trapping you in a burning building, Evan"
"He wasn't crazy."
"Oh no, he was most definitely crazy." This got a laugh out of Evan, Tommy leaning forward to kiss his smile, before pulling back with a raised eyebrow. "Seriously Evan. I know we didn't sign up for any of this, but I am not going anywhere. We are on this recovery train together."
"So, me being injured on the job doesn't freak you out?"
"No more so than being injured in my own line of work does. It happens, but it doesn't mean you have to deal with it on your own." Oh, and if the heartbrokenly relieved look on Evan's face didn't shatter Tommy's heart. "Like I said, I am not going anywhere. Now, close your eyes, get some rest, and I will still be here when you wake up." Sniffling, Evan nodded, allowing himself to sink further into the couch, the soft sound of Tommy's breathing next to him lulling him to sleep.

Send Me a Headcanon or a Microfic Prompt
Oh my gosh, I love love love this microfic prompt. And I hope it's okay that I throw in a free Henren along with your Madney and BuckTommy here ❤️ it kind of grew into this silly thing that was more about friendships than the ships, so I hope you like it haha Thank you for sending in the prompt 🥰
Wine Night
"I can't fit there," said Tommy, his body swaying from side to side, "I'm too big. I'm gonna squish you both."
"What? No. No, sit," said Karen as she and Maddie patted the middle seat of the couch.
"Yeah. Sit with us, Tommy," said Maddie excitedly, "Sit with the cool kids."
"One of us, one of us, one of us," chanted Karen and Maddie, and - and Tommy wasn't sure if that sounded cool, but he liked being included.
Tommy Kinard was.
Well.
Okay, Tommy Kinard was a little tipsy, giggling as he flopped onto the couch.
"See? There was enough space," said Karen when there clearly wasn't.
Karen and Maddie were sort of readjusting their position so that they were half on each of Tommy's thighs. But they didn't seem to mind and Tommy didn't really either.
"We should do this more often," said Tommy.
"Wine nights?" asked Maddie, "I do like wine nights. I like wine."
"I know nothing about wine. But, I - I like hanging out with you guys," offered Tommy, "I like this moment."
"You don't need to be a sommelier to join the monthly wine night, Tommy," said Karen as she patted his chest, "You just need heart. And a good charcuterie board."
Tommy snorted.
"I'll make sure to bring that next time," Tommy said as he - as he spotted Evan.
Smiling.
And wandering over to the couch.
"Hey. No more room left here. Only the cool kids are allowed," warned Karen.
"Yeah. Cool kids," said Maddie in the least cool way Tommy had ever seen someone say that.
And.
Tommy couldn't help but snicker.
"I've been recruited, Evan," said Tommy as - as Evan reached a hand out.
And.
And Tommy couldn't help but take it.
Maddie and Karen booed.
"Et tu, Tommy?" bemoaned Karen.
"Being part of a group used to mean something," grumbled Maddie.
"We're heading home," said Evan apologetically, "I got a Lyft."
"Good idea. Neither of us are in shape to get home," said Tommy as he leaned on Evan; felt Evan's arm wrap around his waist, "You always have good ideas."
"I could say the same to you," said Evan as they walked over to Chimney and Hen.
"Thanks for having us, Howie," said Tommy as he pulled the Chim and Hen into a big group hug, "God, I missed this."
"We missed you too. You could have hung out with us whenever," said Hen.
And.
And Hen was right.
"I should have. I should have been better about keeping up with you two," agreed Tommy.
"Well. You're here now," said Hen with a smile.
"It's good to have you around again," said Chimney, "We're still on for pickup basketball with Eddie on Thursday, right?"
"Definitely," said Tommy.
And as he and Evan exchanged goodnights with everyone at the wine night, Tommy felt himself gravitating more and more into Evan's personal space; practically half in Evan's lap for no reason in the Lyft.
"I love our friends," gushed Tommy, way more sloshed than he thought he was.
Closing his eyes as he let Evan bring him a little closer.
"I love them too," said Evan quietly, "I love you."
Tommy grinned, gazing into his boyfriend's eyes.
"You know I love you," said Tommy simply, landing a sloppy kiss decidedly not on Evan's lips.
Which made Evan laugh.
And pull Tommy into a more coordinated kiss.

Summary: Evan reluctantly tells the team about his family, specifically his eldest child. And he and (Y/n) get more than they bargained for when they go to their newest baby scan.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"James Buckley?"
Evan glanced down at his wrist that was perched on James's shoulder. Nearly twenty minutes. That wasn't bad for being almost six in the evening. A&E was usually busier at night than it was early morning and it had been a while since Evan had come through A&E. When they came in from a call at work, they used the ambulance entrance which was situated behind the waiting area so patients could go straight to care as ambulance calls were usually more urgent.
The last time Evan had had to sit and wait here like this was probably almost two years ago when Josie fell at nursery and they thought she had broken her arm.
Evan patted his hand on James's shoulder and gently nudged his son to urge him to get up. From the moment they sat down in the waiting room, James had tucked himself under Evan's arm with his head on his dad's shoulder. It almost felt like he was a little boy again rather than a teenager.
When they got up, James kept himself wedged under Evan's arm and it almost made Evan smile if the circumstances had been different. They followed a middle-aged doctor into the assessment ward and through to a small room on the right.
"Okay, what's the problem?" James watched the doctor sit up straight in his chair but he looked no match for his dad who towered over him even when he was slightly slouched in the uncomfortable wooden chair.
"I had an accident on my bike…" He looked between the doctor and his dad, waiting until his dad nodded at him before he stood up to pull up his shirt and reveal the damage. He could feel his dad's hand smoothing up and down his back but he bristled when he noticed his dad's stance.
Evan was now slouched forward in his chair, his left elbow resting on his thigh and his hand propping his chin up. He took one look at James's chest and had to look straight ahead of him to stop the fire burning within him from overtaking his senses. Maddie had told him just before they left that she got the man's name and number plate and was going to make a report but Evan was going straight to Athena and Bobby in the morning.
Whoever did this to his son wasn't getting away with it.
"It looks like they're broken. Follow the signs for the X-ray ward, I'll send a note so they know to expect you. Depending on how many ribs are broken depends on whether we need an ultrasound of the lung or not."
"Thanks," Evan looped his arm back around James's shoulders as they left the cubicle and made a left turn, aiming for a long corridor. "It's a good job I know this place like the back of my hand." He would hate to be a stranger coming here, the doctor didn't even ask if he knew which way to go or how to get back.
He tilted his head to look down at James when he curled his arms around Evan's waist and tucked his face into the middle of his chest near his sternum.
"I don't want an X-ray," He whispered quietly, his words slightly muffled by Evan's shirt.
"It won't hurt buddy, it's just like taking a photograph." Evan leaned down to kiss the top of his head as they made a right turn and followed the sign down to the X-ray ward which thankfully wasn't far from the emergency waiting room.
He felt bad for his son. In all his thirteen years, James had never broken a bone, not even a finger or a toe. And now he had broken two or possibly three all at once.
"Have you had one before?"
"Bud, by the time I was your age I'd broken my ankle, my arm and fractured three fingers. I think I've broken almost every bone I can by now. It won't hurt and I won't leave you alone in there. I'll stay right here."
Evan learned from an early age that being sick or being ill gained him the attention his parents lacked to give him. Although it never got him the love he desired, they at least paid attention to him when he fell from his bike or fell from a tree or got knocked down in sports. He got noticed by getting hurt and it was almost an addiction, making sure he was badly enough damaged to gain the comfort and respect he should have gotten for free.
If it wasn't for Maddie looking out for him and (Y/n) coming along and changing his world, Evan probably wouldn't be standing here right now. One accident too many and he could have killed himself unintentionally.
It was a surprise to see the waiting area was empty when they arrived, but it was also a relief.
Evan sat down in one of the chairs near the window and opened his arms when James sat next to him. He wrapped both arms around his son and pressed his lips to the top of his head, gently easing him back into his chest. At least they shouldn't have to wait long if nobody else was here for an X-ray.
He could see the discomfort written all across his son's face, he didn't know how to sit or what to do with himself. Leaning into Evan's chest seemed to make him feel better, but he kept wriggling and holding his breath and if Evan accidentally touched his side, he had to bite back a cry.
"Dad…"
"Come on," Evan cradled the side of James's neck when his name was called out again but his son just stared up at him with those big blue eyes that made him melt.
Evan reeled off his name and date of birth when James stayed quiet as a mouse, tucked into his side. He refused to look at any of them and kept his face hidden in his dad's shirt. He didn't want to be here, he wanted to be at home with both his parents instead of getting poked and prodded. He wanted painkillers and a drink and his bed, although James wasn't sure how he was going to sleep tonight if he couldn't even touch his right side without screaming out.
"If you could take off your shirt and stand over here for me?" The nurse looked at James with a smile but he wouldn't look at her.
"No."
"James, baby please? We need to know you're okay,"
James could feel tears welling up in his eyes again when his dad took a step back so he could take off his shirt. It hurt. He couldn't lift his right arm above his head and he started to shake when he felt his dad help ease his shirt off and place it on a vacant chair in the corner of the room. The shaking in his system was probably due to another burst of adrenaline but it made James want to be sick. He just wanted to go home. This wasn't fair. Why did someone have to knock him off his bike and not someone else?
"Come stand over here, honey."
With his hands clasped on his hips, Evan followed them and stood to the side to watch them carefully. He watched the nurse direct James in front of the screen and instruct him to hold both arms out at his sides as she moved the screen a little more towards the right.
"Try to stay still while we take the scans. If you could come and stand behind the desk with me?" She turned towards Evan and pointed to the desk behind a plastic screen and Evan nodded. He smoothed a hand over his chin and turned to face her, about to follow after her until James suddenly cried out so loud it was as if he had screamed.
"Dad don't leave me! Dad no please-"
"James, James baby calm down," With quick steps, Evan skidded over to stand in front of the dark grey screen that was placed from James's collar bone down to his knees. He stretched his arms over the top of the screen so he could cup James's face, gently swiping his thumbs over his cheeks to collect the stray tears. "Sshh, I'm here."
"D- don't go,"
"I'm not leaving you I swear. I'll be stood right behind that desk you can still see me, they need me out the way to get a clear picture but I'm not leaving. Come on, one minute and it'll all be over." Evan tilted his head down and kissed James's temple, looking at him encouragingly as he waited until James nodded before he slowly let go.
He would stand right in front of him or beside him if he had the choice, but he couldn't. He needed to be well clear so he didn't soak up any excess radiation and he couldn't be too close and ruin the scan photos or make James lose focus and move at the wrong time.
Evan folded his arms up against his chest and covered his face with his hands, digging his fingertips into his cheekbones to stop himself from screaming. The nurse had to time it right to take the photos when James wasn't shaking or it would be blurred. He decided to stay put behind the desk when the nurse went to ask James to turn sideways. He didn't want to risk upsetting James again if he moved within his sight and then disappeared round the corner again.
As soon as the second set of X-rays were done, Evan let out a shaky breath, hearing James weakly calling out for him.
"Dad,"
"I'm here, it's all done I'm here baby." He cupped his chin and kissed his temple, curving his free arm around his shoulders to reel his son into his chest. And he held his breath when he felt James's short nails digging into his shoulders through his shirt. "See, you did it."
"If you take him back to the emergency waiting room, the consultant will call you through to discuss the results."
"Okay. Let's put your shirt on, look."
Grabbing the shirt, Evan scrunched it up and placed his hands through the sleeves so he could gently hold James's hands. He reeled the shirt up his son's arms and then slid it over his head so he didn't have to lift his arms up and strain his chest.
They made a slow trail back towards the first waiting room back in A&E, noticing two more people had left and one couple had turned up since they'd been here. It really was a slow night. When they got to the waiting room, Evan jingled his keys around in his pocket before he sat down but he narrowed his eyes and tilted his head up when James didn't sit down next to him.
He stood in front of him, shaking his hands at his sides as he started to fidget from foot to foot with a panicked, pale expression.
"I feel sick."
"Okay… wait there a sec," Evan trapsed over to the reception desk, showing them his best smile. "Sick bucket please." The cardboard bucket looked unappealing and rather like a bed pan but it would do the trick if James threw up. Evan doubted he would, he was overwhelmed and he hadn't had any tea since they had been in a rush to get here, he was probably feeling faint from the day's events.
He headed back over to James and sat down, handing him the bucket but James looked like he wasn't sure what to do with himself. He didn't want to sit down and he didn't want to stay standing, he was uncomfortable and uneasy.
"Come here," Reaching out, he gently pulled James down until he was sat on his lap.
It had been a long time since James had sat with him like this, he may be a teenager but he looked a bit older than his age due to his height. It was different than when Evan had Josie or Cole on his lap and soon he would have two even younger kids to carry around and sit on his lap. But James was his oldest, his first baby.
And he didn't object.
He slumped down onto Evan's lap, tucked his face just beneath his dad's chin and curled up to make himself as small as possible. He kept his left arm tucked between their chests and held the sick bucket with his right hand, leaving it on his knee just in case he decided he did need to be sick.
Evan ran his hand up and down James's back and kissed the top of his head, swaying them from side to side for a while.
He wished circumstances would have been different. It would have been lovely to hug James and be this close and have one to one time with him for any other reason than being stuck in hospital. He wished they had been out on a boys afternoon spending time together or at home watching tv rather than being here. But Evan was relieved that James was clinging to him and wasn't pushing him away. He was seeking comfort that Evan was more than happy to provide for him.
Every now and then, James shimmied around and whimpered, holding the bucket close to his face but he didn't throw up. He tilted his head into Evan's neck and moaned, wishing they could just go home already.
"Shh, we won't be here much longer." His hand ran up and down James's back but he stopped swaying them when his name was called out. "See, we're going through now. Can you walk… you know I can still carry you," Evan was partly joking, just to see what reaction he would get but his eyes widened when James didn't move and just stayed burrowed into his chest.
It had been at least three, maybe four years, since Evan had properly carried James around.
"God, it's been a while, buddy." Evan huffed quietly but he wasn't complaining in the least.
He stood up with James in his arms, waiting a second so James could hook his legs around Evan's torso and slump his head onto his shoulder with the sick bucket still grasped tightly in his hand. Evan walked towards the same consultant they saw earlier and followed him back into the same cubicle. Suddenly relieved he had been doing more training at the gym so he could easily carry his eldest son around like this.
He eased James down into the chair and sat down next to him, letting James flop down and lay across his lap. James closed his eyes and curled his legs as close to his stomach as he could without causing any pain to his chest. He felt at ease when his dad's fingers tangled in his hair.
"I've got the results back… it looks like the bottom three ribs are broken and there's extensive bruising. But they are all clean breaks which is much better than fractures. I don't think we will need an ultrasound, I'll listen to his lungs to confirm his breathing is fine."
Evan scratched his jaw, his other hand freezing in James's knotted hair. So he had broken his ribs, three of them, not just two like Chimney guessed. James had never broken a bone in his life and that was an achievement to Evan, considering his own upbringing. He didn't want any of his kids to ever go through the pain of broken bones or any damage while they were still kids. He wanted his experiences kept away from theirs.
"Buddy, can you sit up please?" Evan let go of him and straightened up in his chair so that James could slowly push himself up into a sitting position.
He looked drained.
His complexion was gone, his lips were pasty and chapped, his eyes were hooded and tears were streaked down his face. He needed painkillers, sleep and love.
"Deep breaths for me," The doctor listened to his lungs for a minute before he wheeled his chair back to his desk. "They sound fine, no crackling or fluid. I'm going to bind your chest to keep the ribs in place, someone will have to do this every time he takes the bandage off for a wash. Then in three weeks, I'd like a follow up just to make sure the ribs are healing."
"That's fine." He and (Y/n) both had experience with bandages, they would be able to keep his chest wrapped tight to help with the pain.
Evan helped James hook the front of his shirt around the back of his neck so it was scrunched up but still over his shoulders. It was easier than removing the top to just put it back on again in a few minutes.
James wobbled on his feet and stood between Evan's thighs, keeping his arms out at his sides while the doctor wrapped a roll of thick bandage around his lower torso just above his belly button. Every time it curved round, James whimpered and jolted backwards into his dad's chest and he snapped his eyes closed to try and block out the discomfort and the aching feeling pulsing through his chest.
"I'd like to give him something for the pain, just a small injection to work quickly, then I can prescribe some painkillers for the first week to make him comfortable."
"That would be helpful."
An injection would get into James's system faster and would make him a lot more settled tonight if he had some quick pain relief. Then they could start him on whatever tablets he was prescribed tomorrow to keep the pain at bay and help because sleeping, twisting and carrying anything was going to be hard. James was going to be on restricted duties just like his mum.
James plonked himself back down on Evan's lap and leaned his head back on his shoulder but tremors rattled through him when the doctor scooted his chair in front of them. He had a bottle of painkillers on his desk and now a full needle in his hand. His smile was comforting, but the needle was what worried James.
"Dad…"
"Just close your eyes, don't look." Needles, sickness, blood and gore didn't bother Evan. He had seen people without body parts, with holes in their bodies, intestines falling out and muscles ripped off. A needle was miniscule compared to some of the things he had seen.
For James, they didn't bother him as much if they weren't used on him, but if it was going into his arm, then he felt uneasy. It was the look more than the feeling that usually set James on edge.
"Are you okay?" The doctor put the needle in the sharps bin when he was done but he frowned when he looked back at James, who was now breathing shallow and looked as if he couldn't hold his head up.
"No," His head flopped back onto Evan's shoulder causing his glasses to slide down the bridge of his nose and his arms went slack at his sides.
"Fuck- James, James… buddy come on," Evan kept his left arm looped tight around his son's middle to stop him sliding down to the floor while the doctor held his wrist to check his pulse. Evan curled his right hand into a fist and started to rub his knuckles up and down James's sternum, applying pressure to try and stimulate him and bring him back round.
"Is this because of his injuries or the needle?"
"He doesn't like needles- there we go, good lad. Can I take him home now?" He sat James up against his chest and patted his arm, trying to smile at him but he still looked like he was going to either faint again or be sick.
"Yes you can take him home, just call back in three weeks for a follow up."
"No problem, thank you."
"Dad?"
"Yeah, I got you buddy, we're heading home now," He carefully spun James round in his arms and picked him up, holding him against his chest so he could carry him out. He felt James's arms coil around his neck and his face buried into the crook of his neck while his legs moved to hook over his hips. Evan made sure to grab the sick bucket on the way out and headed back to the jeep.
James grumbled, coiling his arms to his chest when his dad laid him down in the passenger seat. He didn't move or complain when Evan strapped him in and when he shut the door, James slumped his head against the window.
Evan leaned his hip against the passenger door, folding one arm over his chest while his other hand fished out his phone and held it to his ear. He smiled encouragingly when James tried to look at him through the window before he closed his eyes again.
"Hi baby, we're just about to come home now." He could almost hear the relief radiating off his wife through the phone. Both of them had silently worried that James might have to stay in overnight or have more scans if his ribs were fractured in the wrong way.
"Thank God, how is he? Are they broken?"
"Yep, he's broken three ribs and a hell of a lot of bruising. They gave him a shot of pain relief and he keeled over. I uh, I'm carrying him around like he's turned into Cole. I think I might pull out the camp bed and stay in his room tonight, I don't think he's gonna sleep well."
They had a pull out bed in James's room in case he ever wanted friends to sleep over or in case Cole had a nightmare and wanted to stay in his room. Evan had already made up his mind to sleep on the camp bed, he didn't fancy leaving James alone in this state when moving his arms was hurting him. Tossing and turning in his sleep was going to wake him up in agony even with a shot of pain medication.
Evan would feel a lot better if he stayed with him in case James needed anything or he couldn't get to sleep.
"Ooh, God." (Y/n) brushed her sleeve beneath her nose, trying in vain to stop herself from crying for the third time tonight. "I've got tea ready for you both and if you stay with him, Cole can stay with me. The antibiotics are making him sick. Maddie and Chimney have already gone to make a statement."
"Just wait 'til I go and make a statement. We're leaving now so we won't be long, I swear I'm putting our house on lockdown as of now." He rounded the side of the car and hopped into the driver's seat.
He would call Bobby when they got home to ask for the week off, then none of them were leaving the house. Cole, (Y/n) and James were all going to stay in and rest and Evan wasn't letting Josie out of his sight in case she was the next one to come down with something or get hurt.
"Sounds good to me, baby."
***
"It hurts."
Evan grimaced as he put the safety pin in place and took a step back, frowning at his handiwork he was studying to make sure it wouldn't come loose.
"I know buddy but it's gotta be tight or else there's no point." If Evan wrapped the bandages round James's chest loosely, there would be no point in him having them on. They had to be tight to keep his ribs in place and try to help him heal and he had to wear the bandage for at least three weeks. None of them were going to get through the next month easily.
Evan reached up into the bathroom cupboard and placed the bandage roll back on the top shelf while James put his shirt back on. He had kept the first bandage on for two days before he kindly asked (Y/n) to take it off for him so he could get a bath. He had purposely left his chest bandage-free for an hour to breathe easier and have a break until his dad went for a shower, then he collared him to ask for help with a new bandage. Now he had a fresh roll wrapped around his torso and another ache pounding in his chest.
"Daddy!" Josie pushed open the bathroom door and clung to the door handle, swaying back and forth on her heels with a small smile in Evan's direction.
"Why do you all wait until I need the bathroom to find me?" He mused quietly with a grin. "What do you need, babygirl?"
He had barely got out the shower when James came in, shyly asking for help with his bandage. Evan had barely had chance to put his underwear on and he still hadn't shaved yet and now Josie decided she also needed his attention. Everyone in their house seemed to know exactly when Evan needed the toilet or a shower because that was when they went shouting the house down to find him.
"Mummy said she needs you now,"
Evan looked from Josie back to James who whistled and his lips formed a smirk until he realised Evan wasn't amused.
"Oi," Evan clipped the back of his hand lightly against James's shoulder before he reached out and took Josie's outstretched hand, letting her lead him out the bathroom.
"You're not dressed," She mused quietly, looking Evan up and down as she guided him down the hall towards his room. It was fairly normal for Evan to mill about the house in just a pair of jogging bottoms and no shirt, but he only went about in his boxers if he was in a rush or if he was extremely tired after a long shift.
"And who's fault is that?"
"Mummy's fault," Josie quipped back and as if to prove her point, she turned her head and ran her fingers along the tattoo etched into Evan's left wrist that she happened to be holding in a fierce grip. Josie took great pleasure in memorising all of Evan's various tattoos and telling everyone what they were, what they symbolised and if they were new or old.
She didn't like the circular bands around his forearm, but she did like the lyrics on his other arm from his elbow down to his wrist. She knew he had (Y/n)'s name on his left wrist, James's name along with his footprint from when he was born were etched across the left side of his chest just beneath his collar bone.
Obviously her favourite was her name along with the shaded grey flower on Evan's right shoulder. Then there was Cole's name on Evan's left shoulder along with a dove in flight at the end of his name. And Josie knew her dad had three other symbols etched onto his torso, his upper chest and another near his belly button.
"Alright, we'll blame your mum. Now go check on Cole for me please babygirl," Evan turned her in the right direction, planted a sloppy kiss to the top of her head and sent her off towards Cole's room.
"What's my fault?"
A grin spread across Evan's lips and he arched a brow, nudging the bedroom door shut behind him before he advanced into the room. His eyes locked on (Y/n) in an instant, seeing her sat on the end of the bed wearing just her bra and a pair of leggings. His arms folded across his chest and he stood in front of the wardrobe just a few feet in front of her.
"The fact that I'm not dressed because I was told you needed me. Urgently."
(Y/n) found her lips curving up into a smile and she playfully rolled her eyes when a charismatic look overcame Evan's features. Of course that was her fault. Why wouldn't it be?
"Dare I ask what you need me for?"
"A consult… I think I've had a bad reaction." Biting down on her lower lip, (Y/n) held her arms out in front of her and waited for Evan to see what she meant. Her eyes followed him, watching the way his grin fell into a frown and his eyes narrowed in on her arms. He let his arms flop at his sides and pushed off the wardrobe so he could cross the distance between them.
He knelt down on the carpet in front of her, gently nudging her thighs to the sides so he could squeeze between them. His hands wormed their way over her thighs before he gently cupped her wrists and stretched her arms out so he could examine them.
"What did you do?" There was no anger or irritation directed in Evan's voice, all (Y/n) could hear was concern radiating through his tone and flooding off him in waves.
"I was putting on some cream, clearly it doesn't like me." She reached beside her for the small tube of cream that had turned her hands and wrists a very dark colour with red splotches that were starting to itch. (Y/n) hadn't used this brand before, but she'd never had reactions to any creams or lotions before now, it was usually Evan and Josie who reacted to everything. The pair of them had to have very plain and simple shower creams and couldn't use bath bombs as it brought them both out in a rash.
"I think you better stay away from Aloe Vera from now on, baby."
Evan gently let go of her wrists, reminding himself to search for the antiseptic cream in a minute to see if that would help. He tossed the handcream somewhere near the bedroom door as a reminder to go and throw it in the bin before he slid his hands over her thighs again and curved them up around her hips.
He pushed up on his toes and leaned forward, balancing his weight so he could press a gentle kiss against her stomach. A low groan burned at the back of his throat when he felt (Y/n)'s fingers tangle in the short curls at the back of his head. His hands dug into the back of her hips and he hooked his fingers into the waistband of her leggings, curling his lips into a smirk when she looked down at him.
"What are you doing?"
"What, you can't guess?" He shifted up until he was crouching between her thighs, both hands planted down on the mattress either side of her and he leaned forward to steal a kiss.
"And when the kids come looking for us?"
A wolfish grin spread across Evan's lips that hovered so close to hers that she could feel each shallow breath he took. "I'm sure they can wait ten minutes. We're busy."
Astounding. Incredible. Deeply, deeply horrifying. Incredible and it will be haunting me for at least the next 72 hours minimum. 10/10 sending it to everyone I know.
Reading the first time I fully did not register how much of a literal chekov's gun the disintegrator was. Made me think way to deeply on what is required for Danny to regenerate. Does it require at least a certain amount of flesh 'intact'? Cells? Molecules? Is it that so long as there is a single atom of his being around he will slowly and horrifically rebuild himself? What would happen if he did switch back? Would he briefly feel the incomprehensible pain of every scattered atom of his being or would it go to fast for him to comprehend the pain? Is he even able to fall unconscious when his body is injured that badly or does his being keep him awake at all costs as a self preservation method?
Anyways this is deeply terrifying and will now live happily next to Nothing Remains and Under Moonlight and all the other fan fics you've written traumatizing this poor, poor dead teenager.
(I've also spent way to long thinking about what comes after the end. What do you do with your friends exposed lung and vocal cords and mouth while he slowly regenerates? It's not like they could just leave him on the golf course screaming. But where could they put him that no one would hear? The thermos? The ghost zone? Hope that Vlad has something that could help?)
10/10 fic I'm chewing drywall thank you for writing this amazing piece!
(Prometheus)
JKDSNKJDSJKNDSJKNSD THANK YOU!!!!
I fully did not register how much of a literal chekov's gun the disintegrator was.
YEAH!!! I wanted there to be something that acted as a through-line in the story. I wanted Maddie and Jack's appearance near the end to be sudden and surprising and scary but not "out of nowhere." Carrying the gun through the story served that purpose so well because like, it's gaudy enough to capture people's attention, but it's also easily dismissed as background shenanigans... until it's not.
And the Disintegrator gets to evolve with the tone shift. It's some goofy combobulation Jack uses to blast fish out of a lake at the start. And then he tinkers with it. And it becomes this thing he can shoulder and point at Danny and draw a genuine fear response from his son (even if Jack had no intention of firing. And Danny is in no real danger) And then it becomes the thing he draws on his son with every intention of firing...
The damn thing even gets to be ripped to pieces and put back together over the course of the story. Danny brushing away loose nuts and bolts of the half-deconstructed Fenton Disintegrator while his liver stitches itself back together. But that's probably nothing :)
What is required for Danny to regenerate. Does it require at least a certain amount of flesh 'intact'? Cells? Molecules? Is it that so long as there is a single atom of his being around
YEah and this is absolutely part of the horror element to me. Danny doesn't know. He doesn't know how much is enough and how far-gone is too far gone. From my word of god, it's his ghost core that the reconstruction happens around (which is not a physical thing). So it at least means every cell is not about to spawn a new Danny (sorry no Under Moonlight angst here). But Danny doesn't know. And how can you tolerate gambling your life over and over and over with a mechanism you cannot understand?
Is he even able to fall unconscious when his body is injured that badly or does his being keep him awake at all costs as a self preservation method?
Yes. There is a ghost-amount of consciousness he's clinging to, which if he loses his grip on would result in him dying. ...Unless it doesn't. :) Danny doesn't know. Danny can't know. Danny cannot risk finding out. Because if he risks it, and he's wrong, he'll die. What's really the difference between "this will kill me" and "I THINK this will kill me, and the only way I can ever know for sure is to do it"? The difference only matters if Danny's made the decision he'd rather die.
I've also spent way to long thinking about what comes after the end
Nothing good. Nothing good. And consider how absolutely traumatizing it is for Sam, Tucker, and Jazz. They find Danny like this and they can do absolutely nothing while organs of himself scream. And this has been ~7 hours since the run in with the Disintegrator. Danny has only barely regenerated, starting from absolutely Nothing. It could be another 24 hours. Another 48. Before he's done. And he's required to stay conscious the whole time. He was desperately sleep-deprived already and now he needs to remain awake through this all because if he passes out with organs missing, he's done for. (Or he might be done for, and he cannot know for certain unless he takes that monumental gamble).
So what do Sam Jazz and Tucker even do. What do you even do? You can't leave him. God no you can't leave him. But you can't move him. You can't talk to him. You can't help him. You can't leave him. Do you sit in the snow? Do you sit for 24 hours watching screaming flesh grow back together? How ungodly long must 24 hours of that be? Will it ever stop screaming?
for bucktommy prompts - tommy smiled as he looked down the aisle at his extremely soon to be husband.
This prompt actually came at the perfect time because I already had some semblance of an idea on my head, so thanks for pushing me to write it!
If anybody else has a prompt, send to my ask and I'll write a little something something ❤️
********
Buck nuzzled further into Tommy's warmth. He'd slip beneath his ribcage and tightly wrap around his actual heart if he could. Tommy squeezed his arms around him tighter
"We should probably get up." He said placing a kiss on the top of Bucks head.
"I don't wanna." He replied muffled into Tommy's chest.
"Me neither, kid, but we've got a big day ahead, plus an early flight tomorrow - I'd like to be at least somewhat prepared."
Buck knew he was right. The plans had all come together in a rush last minute. One minute they were discussing ideas for Bucks birthday, and the next the plans were made, tickets bought, and bags were packed. Despite Tommy insisting, much to Bucks chagrin, that he leave the clipboard at the station, everything had ran pretty smoothly. Mostly because Tommy was the one doing the organising. He may not have had a clipboard but he had a way of making sure things were done properly.
"What time is everyone arriving, again?" Buck asked.
"Food is coming at 6pm, everyone arriving 6:30pm."
"So we have some time then.." Buck climbed on top of him. Tommy always struggled to resist Bucks advances. The way he so eagerly wanted to show Tommy how much he loved him. He indulged Buck for a few moments, leaning up into his languid kisses, before gently pulling away.
"Hold that thought til tonight." He said, half lifting Buck from him.
"But-"
"Nope. Later, Romeo." He placed a kiss on his forehead and got out of bed.
***
"I still don't understand why we had to get this dressed up." Chimney complained pulling at his shirt collar.
"Because it's Bucks birthday and he wanted a nice celebration. Besides, it'll be good seeing eveyone and not have half of you in uniform or dirty turnouts."
They got out if the car and Maddie took a bag from the trunk.
"Whats that?" Chim asked.
"Oh just some party favours Buck asked me to bring."
"There's my favourite girl" Buck greeted them at the door immediately picking up Jee-yun into a hug.
"Look at you!" Maddie admired Bucks deep burgundy suit. "It's nice to see you dressed like a grown up." She teased. Buck smiled.
"It is a special occasion. Gotta make some effort."
"Since when have you thought birthdays were special?" Chim asked.
"I think that's kind of obvious Howie.." Maddie answered pointing behind Buck. Tommy walked toward them in a navy blue suit so perfectly fitted it had to have been tailored she thought. He smiled them and reached a hand to stroke Jee-yun's hair.
"Hi sweetheart."
"Hi uncle Tommy!" She excitedly responded.
"Hey guys." He kissed maddie on the cheek and gave a hug to Chim. Everyone else is in the kitchen"
"Yeah sorry were late. Someone wouldn't leave until she found her rabbit." Chim gestured to Jee-yun.
"No problem. Come on." Tommy and Buck led them to the back ontonthe kitchen where the rest of the 118 were. A buffet was laid out along the entire length of the counter, and an array of drinks sat on the island.
"Finally!" Hen called out to Chim as she walked over. "Whats with the curtains?" She asked pointing to the heavy black drapes covering the bifolding doors that lead out to the back deck. "That ocean view is the best part of this house."
"Uh.. there's a problem with the deck. Couple of the boards have weakened, and didn't want the kids to go out there when it's not safe." Tommy answered. Chimney noticed a look between him and Maddie buy didn't acknowledge it.
"Ah. Good thinking."
"Happy birthday, kid." Bobby said walking over.
"Thanks cap."
"You looking forward to your trip?" He asked.
"Trip?" Lucy asked
"Buck here is abandoning us for two weeks to go on vacation." Chimney answered.
"Ooh where you going?" Lucy.
"I'm taking him to a cabin in Vermont." Tommy replied kissing Buck on the cheek.
"Stop being so adorable" Lucy responded.
"Is everyone here?" Tommy asked Buck.
"Yeah, I think so."
"You ready?" He leaned in and whispered quietly into his ear.
"I am." He smiled warmly back. Tommy nodded knowingly at Maddie.
"Right, I think it's time for some real celebratory drinks." She announced before removing a couple of bottles of champagne from the fridge?
"Champagne? Fancy!" Lucy declared taking a glass. Maddie handed everyone a glass and asked for everyone's attention.
"I just wanted to wish my big little brother a happy birthday. I know that you wouldn't want to share this day with anybody else than those here in this room. I love you so much and I'm so ridiculously happy for you." She raised a glass and everyone followed suit.
"Happy birthday!" They cheered together.
"Also! I think Tommy has something to add.
Everyone looked to him standing a little awkwardly. The man fought fires for a living but standing in a room full of people made him nervous. He hated being the center of attention.
"Thanks everybody for coming. So, as you know tomorrow Evan and I are going on vacation-"
"Boooo!" Eddie called out eliciting a laugh from everyone.
"However, it's not just a typical vacation were going on."
Everyone's faced were a wash of confusion.
"You getting married or something?" Karen suggesting jokingly. Tommy and Buck looked at one another with a smile neither of them could hide.
"Wait.. you're.. are you eloping?!" Chimmed asked. Everyone was standing wide eyed waiting for the answer.
"Uh.. not exactly." Buck answered. "We're going on our honeymoon." Tommy moved to the back and pulled away the black curtains to reveal the deck.
Chairs were placed all around - a mismatch of them, begged and borrowed - facing two small potted palm trees, a few feet apart wrapped in twinkling lights. More twinkling lights and lanterns hung all above and around giving the whole deck a beautiful warm glow.
"My uh.. my sister was right." Bucks voice was a little croaky, thick with emotion. "There's nobody else we would rather share this moment with that you guys. Our family." He turned his attention to Bobby. "What do you say. Cap? You wanna marry us?".
Bobby smiled broadly.
"My pleasure, kid."
There was a few moments of silence before the room erupted into joyous noise.
Oh my god!
Congratulations!
I can't believe it!
You sneaky son of a..!
The next 10 minutes were spent with everyone embracing them both. And chastising them for keeping it a secret.
Maddie opened up the bag she had brought in, took out a box and opened it to reveal an array of small buttonhole flowers.
"Wait, you knew?!" Chim said to Maddie.
"Of course I did. Who do you think helped decorate?"
"I knew two of those chairs looked familiar. They're ours! Why didn't you tell me?"
"Howie, I love you - but you can't keep a secret to save you're life." Chimney started to protest but quickly conceded.
***
"I can't believe my little brother is getting married." Maddie told Buck after pulling him aside. Everyone else was taking their seat outside.
"I know, right?" He said, almost not believing it himself. "Is it.. is it weird that I kind of wish that Daniel was here to see it?" Tears formed in Maddies eyes, remembering their brother.
"No, its not weird. I think he'd be happy for you too." She said with a sad smile. "But hey, mom and dad are going to lose their mind when they find out, so you have that to look forward to."
"They're only now just starting to accept I'm dating a guy - I did not want to have to deal with their thoughts and feelings about marrying one. Besides they missed your first wedding so really im just carrying on the Buckley tradition."
Maddie lightly smacked him on the arm. He raised his hands in defence.
"I'm sorry I'm sorry." He laughed.
"Seriously, I'm so happy for you, Evan." She brought him into a hug.
"I'm happy for me too."
***
"So Buck told me you dont have a best man?" Eddie asked Tommy as they walked outside.
"Actually I wanted to talk to you about that." He turned his attention Chimney. Chim looked around before looking back at Tommy.
"Me?"
"You saved my life. I wouldn't be alive right now if it weren't for you." Chim smiled at him. "More importantly, if you hadn't of called asking for my help I wouldn't have met Evan. So all this-" He gestured to everyone taking their seats on their beautifully decorated deck "-wouldnt be happening if it weren't for you."
Chimney sniffed away the emotion he felt and reached out to shake Tommy's hand.
"Absolutely." He smiled and Tommy pulled him into a hug. The same type of hug he gave him after he saved his life - tightly held with his face against Chimneys to show just how grateful he was.
"Speaking of best men, you better go see if your boy is ready." Chim told Eddie. It was a given be would be Bucks best man.
Things started to quiet down as eveyone started to settle into their seats. Tommy stood at the front. Chimney to his side, looking towards the doors waiting for the love of his life to come out.
Tommy thought that it was only when you were about to die that your life flashed before your eyes. As he stood waiting, heart thumping in his chest so hard he thought for sure everyone could hear it, he thought about all the choices and moments in his life that lead to here.
All the hiding, all of the hate, all of the heartbreak. His parents, the army, even Captain Gerrard. All people and experiences that pushed him further away from who he wanted to be. Further away from happiness. He thought about all the times he'd come home from work to an empty house. All of the birthdays he'd spent alone. All those moments that he was convinced that he would never be loved.
As his eyes swept across everyone sitting in front of him - Chimney, Hen, Bobby, and everyone else he'd gotten to know at the 118 since they reconnected - his heart warmed even more. He finally had the one thing he had yearned for since he was a child. A family.
And as Maddie pressed play and the sound of Lauren Daigle's 'Hold On To Me' began playing out, the biggest smile spresd across his face as the most beautiful man he'd ever had the privilege of knowing walked out and he saw the rest of his life walking towards him.
Evan.
***
Tommy helped a drunken Lucy into Hens car, the last of the guests to leave, then walked back into the house and closed the door behind him. Buck was leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets, waiting. Tommy walked towards him slowly.
"So, Mr Kinard, what do you want to do now?" Buck closed the gap between them and wrapped his arms around Tommys neck.
"Show my husband how much I love him." Then he crashed his lips into Tommy's.
