17. Do you have a writing routine?

oughghgh i guess that depends on what you define as a routine? but usually i like to have some form of caffeine to drink, something on the tv in the background that i've seen a million times before/music on a playlist for the fic itself, and i am almost always on the couch (though i do occasionally move to the office in our house for Serious Writing lmaogjskdh) as for routine meaning "do you have a scheduled routine when you write" then no i write whenever the good lord decides to give me time and energy

25. What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)?

god, i truly DO love editing so much, you would not believe how many changes there are between when i first write it and when i post it. i also LOOOOVE to write foreshadowing and reread value!!!! knowing that someone who's finished the fic will go back and realize something that happened was actually being alluded to CHAPTERS BEFORE makes me grin

What fic are you proudest of?

When the moon was full, he’d change and he’d be helpless to it, to the call of instinct and the hunt. A ferocious, wild joy that he was powerless to resist, succumbing to the shift with abandoned freedom as he takes full possession of his birth rite, running through the forests on the outskirts of the city. And she was human, completely unaware of the realities of the world and the other creatures that live within it. Fuck.

30. What’s something that you want to write in 2024?

I'm going to take this as things I want to finish, which is the short story in the same verse as ropes and fangs!!! It's about Ilya and Georgi, and their relationship with an aro changeling. snippet and incredible art by andy HERE.

I've been thinking a lot about aromanticism this year (in regards to my personal life sksksk) and this is part of my exploration of it. I've written the first part, the second part is sketched out, it's smutty as hell, and just needs me to be in the right head space for smut writing xD

on another nooote YEAH SO i’ve been thinking about expanding this and making a portwell season 3 rewrite (and onward) social media-style with texts/tweets/insta posts and all that (since the wildcats r now kinda famous #meta ooh) let’s see what i can cook up hmm

Saying that ricky and gina are going to be in the same position as her and ej and that it means portwells breakup didn't make sense is completely false. gina and ej got together at the end of ej's senior year so by the time things went left it was still very new for the both of them. They were still trying to familiarise themselves with their new dynamic and their relationship wasn't stable enough for them to fight for it.

On the other hand with rina, ricky and gina are already dating when he enters his senior year, meaning that they've got the entirety of it to figure out their relationship and build a solid foundation - so that by the time ricky does graduate their relationship will be strong enough to deal with whatever comes their way.

Also the year between ricky and ej graduating in regards to gina and where she is is much greater than people seem to understand. By the time ej graduated gina had only JUST hit the halfway point of high school, so she wasn't worrying at all about what comes next for her bc she's still taking in the high school experience. But by the time ricky graduates, gina will be ending her junior year and getting ready to enter her senior senior, which means she'll already be planning her next step and what comes after high school, and already thinking about extracurriculars and maintaining a good GPA for college applications and SAT's etc., meaning she and ricky will be able to talk about it and understand eachother better.

And the show has already kinda demonstrated it with the current characters; ej as the senior of the grp spend the most time talking about gpas and college in the first 2 seasons (obviously), but kourtney spent a lot of time in s2 and s3 talking about extracurriculars for college apps and graduating as well, and even ricky started taking career aptitude tests thinking about what might be next. Whereas the sophomore characters did not once mention anything that might follow after their senior year.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if you're going to try and make up some bs excuse for why ricky and gina aren't gonna work out and all the reasons they're doomed and blah blah blah, remind yourself that they've been set up to live happily ever after and that whatever new reason you invent, there will always be some sort of loophole or solution bc ricky and gina are soulmstes and nothing is gonna stop them from getting to be happy and in love bc that's just what happens when you're the best ship 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🫶🏾🫶🏾

aaaaah return to me is one of those funny ones in my mind - i got a bit worried when the balance got a big push lately, but thankfully my characterisation of blake seems to be holding up pretty well!! and vshbdkjvbhwidasckj i'm so glad you like my writing - i know that my particular style can sometimes come off as overly flowery and winding (in this fic it's particularly egregious!) so i'm SO happy that you're enjoying it 😍😍😍

aside from being a rather strenuous exercise in the conditional tense, the idea was basically just 'blake is so fucking redpilled and nobody is talking about it we should talk about it'! to me, blake is a fascinating example of a reasonable, rational bad guy - in the sense that he's gone so far off the deep end in pursuit of keeping his listener close to him that he's circled back to behaving semi-rationally, just operating under a completely batshit set of rules that he's convinced himself (and been kind of convinced by closeknit, although that's since been slightly disproven) are real.

it was a LOT of fun to write, and i'll never pass up the chance to stick one of the redacted 'bad guys' under my little microscope - very glad you had fun!! <333

Gina going back to liking Ricky felt very out of character for me because she showed no signs of still liking Ricky she was more focus on her relationship with EJ. I am surprised how Gina forgave Ricky so easily after the way he treated her in Season 2 which he still hasn’t apologize to Gina about which makes me so mad Ricky still owes Gina an apologize. I am still mad three months later about the way things ended for Portwell without any closure just to make Rina happen. 1/2

I expected so much better from the writers than to repeat the love triangle storyline from season 1 by making EJ get dumped by his girlfriend who ends up dating Ricky after their breakup. It just really annoys me how sometimes Ricky gets away with stuff without apologizing but when EJ makes a few mistakes some fans still see EJ as the “bad guy” when he is trying his best. At least EJ tries to make up or apologize for his mistakes which is what Ricky needs to do more often. 2/2

secondly i'm on the same page! i'm still mad about it 3 months later but i guess i've had to accept it lol. i feel like if i accept it i won't spend s4 mourning them and instead i'll be able to enjoy the reunion aspect, which is mostly what i'm really looking forward to haha

definitely agreed that it was lazy writing to gratuitously break up portwell when unlike s1 rini they showed no fault lines that could have become earthquakes, which is what happened with rini (although i still completely think out-of-show factors played a major role in their irreversible split).

they retconned a LOT of what we were shown towards the end of s2 - for instance (1) gina being over ricky, as you said, (2) gina waiting for the right guy to show up and ej being presented as her right guy and (3) ej developing into a person who puts others' needs first. all of a sudden in s3, (1) gina is showing signs of being into ricky again, (2) ej is suddenly the "wrong guy" and yet again she's waiting for the right guy to show up, and (3) ej being unaware of others' needs (arguably he is STILL putting others' needs first, but many viewers lacked the nuance to actually see this, and the show itself didn't do much to help).

i think all the characters need to be held accountable, but especially ricky when it comes to gina (which is what i would have wanted to see from their confession!!!!). the whole point is that characters are supposed to be flawed, and they should all learn from their flaws, but certainly some characters' flaws are presented as more forgivable than others', and the narrative certainly has favourites.

anyway rip ej's character growth, rip portwell, and PLS t*m f*derle, no more repeating storylines unless you're somehow actually building to some powerful, symbolic resolution. just don't do it.
