I can't, I just can't. I may have virtually no moral compass, but I hate AI "art" and have it as a line I won't cross but my teacher just told me to use it to make images for an article for school...

I might actually have kind of a meltdown over this. I know my mom is just gonna go "Why not just use it?" Because my country is THAT uncaring for artists and she is one of them. I hate hate hate this and although I've tried to avoid it but if my teacher legitimately call me out for this I might get lower grades and my mom is going to act like I'm being petty when I can get higher grades....

Ugh I seriously hate living here. No I'm not in America, that's why my classmates will also just brush it off and I'm gonna be treated more like a weirdo than I already am... Even my best friend from @modkandmodc also just used it, despite being an artist. I kinda wanna just. Walk out. Of my classroom. And bash my head to the wall. Fuck this.

Ive come to realize i really dont like the typical western action cartoon art style. The style of invincible and pantheon and every DC animated direct to video movie ever.

There is something incredibly stiff and flat about it all. Is like you take a drawing and you take away all the stylization and cartoonishnes out of it until it looks borderline live action, but also because this is animation and good animation is expensive we are going to pass it through an extra filter of stiffness and low framerate and apply none of tge lessons of anime to work with low framerate. Also we refuse to ever deform, stretch, squash, do line of action or any of the basic principles that could come off as silly or overtly cartoony that make animation good. Also the cinematography will be descrived as functional at best. all the weaknesses of live action with none of the strengths of animation.

Today is favourite moment. A prompt I honestly don’t like and kinda regret adding bc like holy shit there’s so much I love abt this game. What am I supposed to say, just one thing? Hm okay heres just one of many moments I love:

And this dialogue from ceroba directly before I am fucking shaking her and hitting her with hammers. It’s so bitter with the full context. She’s absolutely just making up this “sensing her presence” thing like she does not know anything. Her hopefulness is a lie she uses for credibility meanwhile she’s truly expecting the worst. Because in the end even if she is alive as she so confidently reassured star, there’s no hope for her anyway.

how do you draw tge shapes so well. please explain, your creatures look amazing and i wanna learn

thank you very much! as for the style, i generally just make simpler character designs where most of the detail comes from shapes rather than complex color palettes. (or at least shapes and silhouette are prioritized)

i either draw fully smooth long curves or straight lines and sharp edges intermittently while trying to not use many 'inbetween' shapes. i don't add many small smooth curves to my art usually, which is what you tend to see a lot of in more realistic styles. mostly just don't be afraid of exaggerating, you'll get better at figuring out which parts to make sharp vs smooth with practice.

paying attention to silhouette is also key, i get a lot of practice in this due to my characters being very one toned and me not using line art or complex shading often, so i have to make sure the design is still readable by using negative space and gradients to do the heavy lifting.

it might help to think of it like you're assembling your characters from cut out strips of colored paper like a puppet.

you're someone who likes piercings. you're both fascinated and turned on by them, which got you into the art of diy experiments. It started off with a simple ear piercing, and then led you down a more... curious, and daring road. you now have a whole line of piercings down your right ear, including your rook; double nose piercings, and a septum. your next is to place a hoop on the left corner of your lip.

dark clothing, plaid clothing and clothes with wicked designs is also something you love. you sometimes dress as, what localists would describe as “ street ”. cargo pants that hang off your hips, tanks that show your mid-droft or are just ripped at the bottom. boxer briefs, where the waistband tends to show because of the jeans (or pants) you wear. It was a unique style, and it was you.

whether you wear lots of rings, brackets or necklaces — it depends on your outfit or mood. sometimes you liked classic chain necklaces, other times you decided on cool rings and a classic band bracelet.

for whatever reason, david took a liking to all of this. you were different. and not like one of tge tourists that moved through town, or a local outcast that sported a spiked mohawk. you had your own personality and changed up yourself a lot; a new person each day. It spiked his interest.

when he decided to speak to you one day, the boys whooped the entire time. he had threw them a warning look over his shoulder, but it didn't stop ‘em. even usually quiet dwayne was pumping a fist in the air and shouting encouraging words with a smirk. all david could do was sigh, shake his head, and grin to himself.

but surprisingly, the conversation went well. he thought, which was odd, that it'd be a fail. you truly didn't seem like someone to get down with a strange guy who approached you, but you acted nonchalant and kept light humor to the conversation. he liked that. he liked you.

even though it was intention to lore you and eat out your insides, like his plan all the time, he figured he'd wait a little. having you stick around would be fun, or so that's what his gut told him. and, listen - david always listened to his gut.

be glad he did though. that gave him time to know you, and for you to know him. although throughout this time you were uneasy around him, you still went with shit. you chilled about, played around and acted yourself. It'd be weird if he did see through the act.

but... not actually. cause, well - vampire. david wasn't an idiot, he sensed your change in mood when it happened as well as read your body language and facial structure. the littlest bit of wariness, he spotted. it was no shock though, that usually did happen around smart humans. did it make things harder? Indeed. he'd probably have to get messy in further weeks, but... he had a feeling killing you wasn't going to go through, after all. that being his choice.

he was right, too. david told you about him and his boys. what was really shocking is that you didn't freak out. you... passed out, from surprise, but once you awoke and was given a little bit of space, you were eerily calm over the situation.

you officially befriended them all after that, and as time passed, you and david became closer.

you convinced him to wear eyeliner, actually. you fought him on it and fought him on it, until you made a deal with him. If he let you apply it, just once, you'd let him drink from your wrist. just as a treat for being a good boy good sport.

he was silent, resting back in his chair. one leg was folded over the other, while cold eyes stared at you; not a single thought behind them... or so it seemed. If anything, it seemed like he just wanted to murder you. until he spoke. “ alright, ” david said, flickering his gaze off of you with a sigh of defeat. “ deal. but if you poke my eye out, I'm draining you of every drop in your damn body. ”

and so you made him look dashing. it was just a simple appliance to his waterline and the line underneath his upper lashes, but damn did it make his eyes POP. you almost teased him, but resisted. instead you settled with a small grin, and a peck to his cheek.

“ you look handsome. ”

was he taken back? absolutely. but he didn't let it show. he was just... silent, before smirking, letting you think it was his cockiness showing through.

in reality, however, his heart had jumped and it scared the shit out of him.

the boys ended up entering the cave later on, and when they spotted david they nearly pissed themselves of laughter.

paul immediately bursts into hyena howling laughs, marko slaps a hand over his mouth to stop from spitting everywhere, and dwayne smirks widely. he didn't exactly know how to react, given it was funny, but also a dangerous game if he chose to laugh. that's why he excuses himself.

hint; he went to laugh elsewhere.

that was only one of many incidents to happen. having a person around who was proud of who they were, that loved to be... out there, but also distanced themselves from crowds, was rather interesting.

basically you were comfortable in your skin, just not around the open sea. all four boys liked it. but david just seemed to... like it a bit more.

when he finally asked you on a date, it took you a second to process it. only because it didn't seem like he was asking you on a date. he questioned you if you wanted to go somewhere, and you instantly agreed, but when you asked if the others were coming... he said “ no, it's just us two, doll. ”

you put it together after a minute. your face, which heated up, turned away from him. You didn't see it but david smirked, before taking your hand in his own.

that night was rather fun. the vampire had taken you to a lookout on the outskirts of santa carla. It took some time to get there, but when you did, you were awestruck. it wasn't only because the sight was enduring, but because he dared to lift you up over the fence that separated you from the landslide, and held you by he waist. one arm wrapped around your waist, while his other hand rested on your thigh.

you were breathless about it, but didn't say a word. instead, rested back against him; the back of your black tank riding up the slightest.

silence took you two most of the night, but when you did talk, it was calming. you were glad you agreed to go with him, even though in the beginning you weren't aware of it being like that.

It was nice. and it only was the beginning for a bunch of fun years to come.

Continuing on with awesome concept art, that is better than what we got, here are the original concept art for Mata Nui's 6 villages/cities.

I love the Villages we get in the actual product, but looking over these concept pieces, you get the sense that what they were originally going for, is the idea that all of the 6 villages used be something greater, which now(Other than Onu-Koro) has fallen drastically as civilizations, thanks to makta.

Gali's mask plastered on the mountain over Ga-Koro is one of the most iconic things from Mata Nui Online, but there is something haunting looking at it as it's in the middle of what was once a bustling city in the mountain side, now completely abandoned, with it's railing almost all rusted away and nature having retaken it.

Meanwhile, as for Ga-Koro itself, you get the sense that it's old, and weathered... But not dead just yet. It still clings to life around a center, a decaying city that once no doubt used to be much bigger.

I'll addmit, the Ta-Koro we actually got was better than this concept piece, but the ideq of the Fire Matorans literarily carving out their city out of a small, active volcano pretty much sums up their entire culture in one picture, just as much as them building it in the middle of a lake of Lava does.

Ko-Koro in canon was easily the blandest, and this one isnt all that better... But i do like how the entire city is basically carved out of the rock so it lies protected by tge overhead of stone.

It adds to the theme of this place being a safe haven, shielded from the elements on this 23 kilometer tall mountain.

Le-Koro is just completely different, taking the idea of a jungle city, and just flipping it from the usual kind of cities in the trees we got in canon, and instead a city of coccons made from vines that form a city hanging from the mountain side.

Its great, and i love it, and then i remember that this city would have ended up destroyed by tge Bohrok swarms if it had made it to the final product... Though to be fair, all of these would have been destroyed eventually down the line.

Now Onu-Koro is interesting in that it's clear that the city itseld isn't all that important here.

No, just like canon, what matters is all those tunnels, which connects to a much greater cave networks that is this states lifeblood.

The city itself is just the apot where they converge, and even then, to access the upper levels where people actually love, you have to do so through the caves.

And finally, Po-Koro... It's basically the same, just alightly different layout, and a couple if mesas with a huge boulder between.

Not bad at all, and you can see it's easily the one that was changed the least between concept and final product.

You know something that really grinds my gears about the Bionicle Movies?

The designs.

Much and more has been said about the Bionicle movie designs, and how they look way too organic, they move clunkily, and there are way too many liberties with them compared to the source material.

This isn't exactly anything new, people have complained about the Movie designs for as long as we have had bionicle movies.

But you know the thing that just kills me about these designs?

The concept artists fucking nailed it.

THIS is how the toa should have looked, like someone took the original designs, allright lets try not change anything we don't have to, and the parts we change is generally the more abstract parts like the gears manouvering the arms.

Like its not perfect(Pohatu lacks his unique body build) but man this design is how the Bionicle films SHOULD have looked.

The worst part is, the actual movies took these designs, and edited them juuuust enough to make them look absolutely terrible, and missing the point of so painstakingly trying to recreate the sets into actual functioning designs withouth trying to just remaking them to fit into the movie rather than fit the movie world around them.
