the Sully kids' reaction to Jake saying Spider "knew everything" breaks my heart.

they knew him better than anyone else, better than their parents. they knew his love for Eywa, for Pandora, for The People, for the clan, for their family. they knew he would never tell the RDA anything... not willingly at least.

they knew they were leaving because Spider would be tortured for information, he'd be forced to reveal their home, their plans, their numbers, their weaknesses. their brother would be tortured and they were being forced to leave him behind.

Been thinking about rebirth in aftg: Neil rising from the ashes of Nathaniel, Renee from the ashes of Natalie, Jean building a life on the ashes of the boy who died in every draft but the final one, Andrew who dug his sexuality out of the ashes of what almost broke him, Nicky who rebuilt his faith over the ashes of a religion that was used as a weapon against him, Dan and Matt and Aaron and Allison and Wymack and-- These books are about second chances and so they're about rebirth, all of them phoenixes (except for Seth, who only got the burning without the rising).

Anyway, Neera is a Rossetian who lives alone in the Skyfall Exclusion Zone, or the SEZ. If you want to know a little more about where that is in this setting check out my vile maps (I'll try n tag them or smth)

She works with a resource trading business as a translator for several iterations of her species’ language (since other species’ access to an official translation it is limited beyond some funky online ones. Even within Rossetian ones, their AI is oft inaccurate and using it is considered impolite .) basically she’s there to help appraise the stuff they’re given to see if anything worthwhile is written on it, and just generally mediate conversations between other businesses. Because of this, she’s also friends with several people who make a living collecting valuable scrap and salvage from the vast tract of space wreckage outside of their city walls, since a lot of the time they find stuff that they can’t read (also, a lot of Rossetian bosses don’t want to deal with xenos, so it’s nice to have a mediator)

Some other fun facts: her knife looks funny because it’s a design that easier for her to grip. She lives in an apartment designed for humans since the nearest Rossetian housing is Really expensive and also Really crowded, so she compromises with stepstools.

I was trying out using only one color (since that’s one possible route if I ever wanted to make more extensive comics?) and actually using typed text because my handwriting is so bad 😩 also don’t mind the wack geometry in the background. Stuffs weird in the SEZ.
