Sanders Sides OC introductions!!! (TCM au act one) intro explanation/context to the au here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yapping about them under the cut!!!
Since I got some reason decided attempting a fanseries was a good idea I’m going to be vague about spoilers and the sides will be referred to be titles instead of their actual names, I’ll probably give up on being vague about spoilers eventually but for now I’m trying
Let’s start with the basic one: it’s me but not really: TCM!Crescent
Tumblr media
Taking the role of c!Thomas: Crescent is the protagonist! The one whose mind everyone else is apart of! They’ve only just been introduced to their sides and will learn more about them as we go. His personality is a combination of the four he’s met. She’s creative, kind hearted, emotional, anxious, a bit awkward, and simultaneously very smart and very stupid! Well, that’s not all he is, but we don’t have to think about that, do we? TCM is a fun show where we only have to deal with the problems we want to face, we can just ignore that, this place is an escape and no one is going to change that.
Crescent is different from c!Thomas in well, they are literally just different people. Crescent is a teenager with a different gender and sexuality. I guess in terms of what they do in the story the first difference I think of is that Crescent is more aware of certain parts of themselves. This won’t stop him from acting just as oblivious though.
Now we have Artist: Embodiment of creativity, imagination, passion, and ego!
Tumblr media
Artist takes the role of Roman! They’re passionate, creative, brave, a bit hyper, and the most confrontational of the group. He likes to act as a hero, even having a “magical girl” (despite not being a girl) form to transform into! She’s very willing to fight or get aggressive when nessecary, maybe even a bit too much. Funfact: the two dots on their crown are eyes! Her crown’s name is Ray and they’re what she used to transform into Ember Knight (the name she gave her magical form). Funfact 2: Despite being the creative side of a horror fan, Artist doesn’t like horror! Wonder what that’s about…
In terms of differences from Roman, Artist is less regal and overall has different vibes and demeanor. She also takes his thing with wanting to be a hero up several notches. She’s also less likely to just insult her friends for no reason, she will be kind of rude but with reasons. Basically if someone’s rude to her she’s rude back almost imeadiatley and she’s very aggressive towards people she has unresolved conflicts with.
Next up is Intel: Embodiment of intelligence, reason, and logic!
Tumblr media
Intelligence, or Intel as literally everyone calls them for short takes the role of Logan! The most knowledgeable side in the mindscape, Intel is just as smart and rational as you’d think they’d be. They can be overly cold and serious at times, but that comes from a genuine desire to get things done and help out. And boy does she do a lot of helping! With Crescent being a former gifted kid who now as a teen is almost always in advanced classes (or art related classes, at least Artist can handle that part of their school) and with Intel always trying to use reason to calm the others down when things get serious, he certainly has a big job! Just hope they can handle it.
Intel acts a lot like Logan but the vibes are shifted to the right (listen it’s hard to describe how she acts I swear she’s different) but her arc and struggles are very different. Because of how much Crescent needs her she’s very hard to ignore so she isn’t really, tldr burnt out gifted kid needs a break.
Then there’s Heart: center of feelings and morals!
Tumblr media
(I know her color is kind of hard to see I’ll fix that eventually) Heart takes the role of Patton! She’s kindhearted, empathetic, and very sensitive. The least aggressive or confrontational of the group. They’re the youngest of the gang, everyone is physically and more or less mentally the same age as Crescent but Heart formed the most recently. However they’re not a child and will dispute claims they are. Being the newest to the group they have big shoes to fill and he’s still learning how to do that best, can Heart really fill the void he left behind?
While Patton is seen as the group dad, Heart is often seen as the group child (even if she disputes it.). Her arc involves a lot of coming into her own in different ways.
And finally there’s Stress: embodiment of fear and anxiety!
Tumblr media
Stress takes the role of Virgil, including starting out as an antagonist. At this point in the story they’re very rude and condescending, masking everything underneath a scary persona they’ve had as long as anyone can remember. But it has been a while. Him deciding to be a threatening presence within the show was a bit surprising for the other three sides, ever since the incident she’s mostly done her job remotely, staying away from direct confrontation with the others unless something major happens. So why do this now? There’s something deeper that they’re connected to, and I don’t think Crescent wants to find out what.
Stress has more energy than Virgil, but you won’t notice that at first because the scary persona definitely takes some of that energy to keep up. Her motivations are also pretty different from his but I’ll keep that a secret for now (she has the most complicated backstory out of everyone you will see)

Reprodução TCM-PA Read the full article

The King in Yellow, 1949
Much of this story is true.  Warnings in the tags.
When I had pneumonia in my early teens, my mother brought home an armful of VHS tapes from the library to alleviate my misery.  Knowing my snobbish preferences, she had grabbed copies of whatever she found in black and white.  I remember something musical that I suspect was Busby Berkeley, I remember Mildred Pierce (a bad choice, as it turned out- the plot includes a young girl dying of pneumonia), and I remember a period piece called The King.  I faded in and out of consciousness while I watched it, but it soothed me while I was awake and filled my fever dreams with sparkling images.  I could never find it at the library again, nor at Hollywood Video or even early Netflix (once my father got the subscription service where you could order practically every DVD.)  It was a bit odd that it seemed to be so obscure, given that it starred old Hollywood legend Ingrid Bergman (and, although I initially forgot it, Marlene Dietrich.)  But even big stars make films that fall by the wayside in public memory, and it seemed that this was one of them.  Google was no help, and at the time that was that.
I didn’t see the film again until I was watching Turner Classic Movies at my grandparents’ house.  I loved watching that channel with them while filling out the crossword puzzle that came in their little TCM catalogue (all of it based on movie trivia, the only kind of crossword puzzle I’ve ever been any good at.)  I recognized a certain scene where Bergman stood on a balcony, looking sadly at the moon.  Her face had an expression of unutterable melancholy, and the crescent moon reflected in each of her eyes, giving the impression of two moons in one sky.  I had very little time to catch up on what I’d missed before we had to go meet my cousins at the local Italian restaurant.  I knew logically that the movie would be long over by the time we returned, but I turned on the channel anyway.  Of course it had moved on to the lesser known Alfred Hitchcock film Stage Fright, but then I heard Marlene Dietrich sing before I could reach the remote to turn the tv off in disappointment.  I knew that I had heard her sing before, and I knew it had been in The King.
Dietrich’s singing often comes across as somewhat campy today, with its Rs pronounced as Ws and it’s up-and-down tone.  Madeline Kahn parodied it brilliantly in Blazing Saddles, such that it was a bit of a disappointment when I finally saw Dietrich’s western Destry Rides Again and found it to be lifeless and inconsistent next to the parody.  Still, we remember her voice for a reason, and when I remembered it that night, I knew that its sardonic loneliness had rung through The King and made me shiver in my dreams.
The TCM schedule didn’t list The King in its time slot, but something else.  If I had taken down the name, maybe it would have helped me find it.  Sometimes the same movie runs under multiple names.
I didn’t see the film all the way through for many years, after I graduated college.  I had found a web page that listed public domain film noir, including one called The Masked Guest.  The website described it as a costume noir, and I curiously clicked on the link.  Once I took in the credits running on the youtube window, my eyes grew wide and I did not move from my place on the bed until the movie had run its course.
The credits did indeed list it as The Masked Guest, but I recognized the strange repeating design on the title cards.  They told me that in addition to starring Dietrich and Bergman, it was directed by Fritz Lang, and a character called The King was credited to “???”  (I hadn’t seen that kind of credit since the first Karloff Frankenstein.)  When the King finally appears on screen, though, it is unmistakably Orson Welles’s voice that booms out from behind his elaborate costume.
Here are the things I understand about The King, or The Masked Guest, or The Man in Yellow, or any other title I’ve found for it on public domain archive searches.  Dietrich and Bergman play princesses named Cassilda and Camilla, respectively.  Though Dietrich’s accent is German and Bergman’s is Swedish, they blend together to give the film the impression of being set somewhere on the map that I can’t quite find.  The scenery and camera angles are very Freudian, with a great deal of archways and pillars.
The first act of The King involves frankly dull romantic plotlines, and the only thing that really saved it was the feeling that the suitors were supposed to be insipid, a suspicion lended credence by the fact that the love interests were listed so low on the credits.  Dietrich is the scandalous sister and Bergman is the responsible one, though each takes on aspects of the other as the film goes on.  Dietrich sings her song at a party, dressed in a fake 17th century gown and leaning against a piano.  Although just a moment ago she had been laughing and joking with her gentleman friends, her song takes an abruptly serious tone (not seductive, not sentimental) as she tells the story of a city lost to time and memory.  Bergman slips away from the party and onto the balcony, where we see that wonderful shot of the moon in her eyes.  Is she mourning?  Is she longing?
Dietrich cuts off the song by abruptly screaming “Not on us, King!  Not on us!”  She flees the party weeping and shaking, and from there on the film goes mad.
Though uncommon, it is not unknown for movies to switch between black and white and color, done most famously in The Wizard of Oz.  The film The King recalls here is the silent Phantom of the Opera, which had a masqued ball scene tinted in shades of red and green that tried to provide a whole spectrum of color.  The effect is even odder in the masqued ball scene in The King- the only color that appears is yellow, highlighting things like candlelight, Dietrich’s hair, a passing gown, a vase of tulips.  It also highlights one particular masked figure, whose expressionless mask was decorated with a black pattern against a sickening yellow canvas- the same pattern I had seen in the opening credits.  The color of his costume causes him to stand out from the crown even when he is far off in the background, just one head among many others.  It must have taken long and painstaking hours of work to color in every frame.
Dietrich still seems broken up days after her song, though Bergman tries to coax her into joining the dance.  Finally, at midnight, Dietrich goes out to face the party, but only to demand that every guest remove their mask.  The yellow man with a voice that once warned America about a Martian invasion tells her that he wears no mask.  Bergman reacts with disbelief, but Dietrich starts laughing like a woman unhinged.  As she laughs, the yellow hue seeps out of the King’s clothing and face- if that really is his face- and begins to color the entire ballroom crowd.  I think that what follows is bloodshed, but if there is any carnage (doubtful under the Production Code censorship), the blood must be tainted yellow and splashed across the camera like daubs of paint.  Dietrich’s laughing face is doubled and tripled on screen until it dissipates, but even when it has faded offscreen, it feels as if her ghost continues to watch the proceedings.
By the end of the scene (filled with German Expressionist camera angles and mad violin screeching), only Bergman remains alive, cowering behind a grandfather clock.  It does not hide her for long.  The King steps towards her and extends his hand.  Reluctantly, but with a fatalistic expression, Bergman takes his hand.  They walk away together hand in hand.  The screen shifts back into black and white, and then the credits roll before we can get a good look at all the bodies in the scene.  The credits say it was based on a play called The King in Yellow, although Raymond Chandler of all people apparently had a hand in the screenplay.
As I said, that’s what I think I understand.  It’s an oddly experimental art film for the era, and it may be awaiting rediscovery by the film festival crowd.  I feel as if I alone know about it, though that obviously isn’t true.  It is my little secret; I tell myself that my husband doesn’t need me to show it to him, it would be too odd for his taste.  I’ve rewatched it many times, even if it seems like each time I search for it I have to find a different video platform or torrent.  Naturally, no subscription site has it available.  Maybe I am the last person who will ever watch it.  Maybe no one will ever think to look for it again after me, and it will be completely forgotten.
When I was hospitalized, they let me use my laptop at night before I went to sleep (no power cord, though, in case I tried to hang myself.)  I found a youtube link for The Man in Yellow, and I watched it every night.  It wasn’t a soothing sort of movie, but having it in my mind all day and then watching it in the evening allowed me to think as opposed to crying endlessly while the other patients shot me awkward looks.  I clutched the childhood stuffed animals my mother brought me when she visited, and I always held them extra tight when the masquerade scene started.
I watched the movie when I had to move away from my beloved San Francisco.  I watched the movie when I lost the last of my grandparents.  I watched the movie when a doctor unwisely took me off my medication and I couldn’t manage to eat for a month.  I watched the movie when the whole world got sick and we all locked ourselves away from each other.  I don’t mind that I don’t entirely know what it means.  I don’t mind the nightmares.  In the hospital they kept telling us about mindfulness exercises, and maybe the fact that I can focus on every aspect of the film so closely that all else falls away is the reason I keep coming back to it.  I’m being mindful.  I’m not letting any stray thoughts invade my head.  I’m just watching and waiting for the next beat of every scene, leading inexorably to that yellow-stained bloodbath.
Streaming media doesn’t last forever, and each time I find The King, I worry that it will be the last time I ever can find it.  My efforts to download it have so far been unsuccessful, odd considering that it is in the public domain.
When I watch The King, I am once again a child in my bedroom being cared for in the throes of agonizing sickness.  I am once again sitting on the couch with my grandparents in front of the tv, both of them alive and lucid again.  I am once again in the hospital, all alone except for my stuffed animals and the staff trying to keep me alive.  The film reflects in my eyes like the crescent moon in Ingrid Bergman’s gaze.  It sings to me.
I am determined to find a way to obtain The King under any name so that I never have to worry about losing it.  During some of the worst times in my life, it is the only thing that has kept me sane.

TCM Day 19: Video Games
The group was dropped down in the four quadrants in an arena. They had time to blink in surprise, note the rows of spectators, which seemed to be a mix of toadstools, chocolate chips, and ghost-like creatures, and the fact that there was a massive, steaming pizza between them before the host whizzed in front of them on a floating platform.
“Welcome to today’s mini game!” he roared into the mic. “Our four contestants will compete to see who can eat the most pizza in the given time frame. Are you ready?”
There was no time to answer, because a screen lit up with the number 3.
3...
2...
1...
“START!”
Stressed by this strange turn of events but anxious to comply, Syaoran began to rip off handfuls of pizza and stuff it in his mouth as fast as he could, praying that this wasn’t some sort of trap and that he wasn’t about to be poisoned. Kurogane remained frozen in confusion for too long and lost five seconds of precious time while the other three stuffed their faces. Luckily the pizza was only lukewarm, so it didn’t burn.
“Mokona will help!” Mokona announced, appearing on Sakura’s shoulder.
“Eh?” Sakura asked as Mokona’s mouth opened wide. A strong wind pulled the massive pizza off the floor and into Mokona’s mouth, where it vanished as Mokona gulped.
“Uh.”
While everyone stared in shock, the host dropped down next to Sakura and lifted her arm. “WINNER!”
“But, I didn’t-” Sakura said, trying to explain, but the audience was cheering and seemed to view Mokona as part of Sakura.
“Onto the next game!” the host cried.
The floor dropped out beneath them. Sakura shrieked. Syaoran called her name and lunged for her hand, grabbing it just as they all landed in a giant book.
“Okay, what happens now?” Kurogane asked as the countdown began.
“Don’t get squished!” was the host's only explanation.
Squished?
The opposite page began to turn. The group realized it was going to drop on them, but there was no way to get off the book. An invisible wall kept them trapped. Syaoran pounded on it, frantic to save Sakura.
“Oh, there!” Fai said. He pointed upward. There were cutouts in the page above them. He positioned himself so that he would go through a star cutout when the page dropped. Kurogane seized Syaoran and Sakura and moved so that the three of them plus Mokona would go through a crescent moon.
The first few pages were easy, but then they began to flip faster and faster. Sakura still didn’t have enough of her memories back, and she was soon dripping sweat and fatigued. Syaoran pulled her along with him, dashing from safe space to safe space as the pages turned. Kurogane and Fai did fine on their own, until the page turned and Fai was on the opposite side of the book from any of the cutouts.
Fai’s eyes widened in alarm as the shadow of the page fell over him. This was not how he thought it would end. Squashed between the pages of a book as if he were a fruit fly.
“White meat bun!” Kurogane snapped, holding out his hand.
Souhi, Kurogane’s sword, came flying out of Mokona’s mouth and into Kurogane’s hand. Kurogane raised it and slashed the book in half just before it would have crushed Fai.
The heavy page disintegrated into harmless scraps of paper, which rained down gently.
“WINNER!” the host yelled into the sudden silence, making everyone jump.
“Oi, that doesn’t count as cheating?” Kurogane tried to ask him, but didn’t seem to be heard over the cheering. Kurogane grumbled. “Damn, if I’d known that was all it took, I’d have cut the damn book in the beginning.”
Fai laughed. “Thanks Kuro-rin! You saved me!” he said, which Kurogane ignored.
The ground disappeared again, but this time they were ready for the drop. They were not prepared to land on a sheet of ice, though, and everyone but Fai immediately fell on their faces. Fai skidded across the surface, flailing his arms, before coming to a stop. “Hyuu,” he said, attempting to whistle. “I didn’t bring any skates!”
Kurogane got to his feet with caution, holding his arms out for balance. Syaoran attempted to get up, but his feet kept flying from beneath him. Seeing this, Sakura stayed kneeling on the ice.
There was a faint rumbling, and four large balls of snow rolls up to the edge of the frozen pond. “I wonder what happens next,” Fai said. As if on cue, stick arms protruded from the side of the balls, and each of them grew a head. “Oh. Well.”
“Ready? START!”
The snowmen armed themselves with snowballs and threw them. Sakura couldn’t get up in time, and she and Mokona were hit dead on and frozen in a block of ice.
“Sakura!” Syaoran yelled, horrified. He dove for her, and took a snowball to the chest. He froze as well.
Realizing that this might be serious, Fai and Kurogane slid around on the ice as they tried to avoid the snowballs. Kurogane had his ninja training, but he wasn’t used to ice and kept slipping. Fai was from a cold country, and he moved like he was born on ice. Kurogane tried to deflect a snowball with the sword he still held, and that seemed to count as a hit. He froze in a block of ice while Fai watched with dismay.
“WINNER!”
To Fai’s relief, upon him being declared the winner, his friends began to defrost rapidly. Syaoran landed on his knees beside Sakura and asked if she was all right. Kurogane just looked grumpy. He didn’t like to use.
The ground fell. But this time, the falling didn’t stop.
The pressure from from the wind pushed against them. “What are we supposed to do here?” Syaoran asked.
“Catch the coins!” the host said before drifting away. “START!”
“Syaoran!” Mokona called. She was still clinging to Sakura’s shoulder, and her eyes were opened wide. “I sense a feather!”
“So there might be a feather mixed in with the coins,” Fai said.”
“I’ll definitely catch it,” Syaoran said. He pulled his goggles forward so that they covered his eyes, which stung from the rapid descent.
Sakura was too exhausted to help, but the others grabbed at coins like their lives depended on it. Fai and Kurogane fared best, as Syaoran’s blindness in his right eye threw off his depth perception.
“It’s getting closer!” Mokona called.
And then Syaoran saw it.
The feather floated among the coins as though it had simply been overlooked by whoever had come up with whatever the hell the group was doing. Syaoran was closest, but it was on his right side. There was nothing he could push off of to move into a more favourable position. He could only do his best.
He grasped at it as he plummeted, and his fingers closed around the feather. Almost immediately, Mokona’s wings opened up and pulled them into the next world before they could hit the ground.

Solum: Tale of a Crescent Moon
In The Beginning, there was a great flash of cosmic energy; a sudden burst of Mana which spurred the planet into being, and from the embers of its matchless divinity, the world began anew.
Five Divines rose, each sustained by the heat of the Transcendent. The Five Divines stimulated creation at their own behest  — building, growing, destroying, and retaliating as they saw fit.
Utoria was forged from the molten Mana left over from creation and was shaped over eons. It drowned in an unending ocean. Upon its surface, the continent of Solum arose, ready to flourish.
Solum was the canvas of the Five Divines. The world was shaped to their liking; its very soil altered and constructed for the sole purpose of bearing life upon its surface. And so, it soon did.
Holykind descended from the Empyrean above as agents of the Five Divines, who set their celestial gaze upon the islands of the north, of which they settled and isolated.
Unholykind ascended from the bowls of Utoria, clawing their way out from the Underdark to stake their claim upon the surface world. In their ravenous hatred, they sought prey in Holykind.
The Spurn of Baalgar fled the Underdark; slaves no longer to their demonic overlord. Now Tieflings, their people vowed to do away with their shackles and enshrine the world before them.
The Drakenweyr were born infantile into the northern tundras, but they were not without tenacity. Their kind took to the skies, exploring their newfound lands and creating enduring infrastructure.
The Naga, brilliant and implacable, swiftly evolved. They were the chosen children of The Sire, guided by their Guardians to enlightenment. Their civilization blossomed; magnificent yet naive.
Humanity left the familiar comfort of their caves and set foot into the world around them, becoming enthralled in its beauty. Quickly, they set forth, and a vast civilization spread across Solum.
Dwarvenkin took to the mountainous regions of the north-east, carving out their society from solid stone and shining silver. Ingenuitive automation perfected their craft, and it was superior.
Drakenbol roamed the southern jungle; an innocent an amicable species. The wrath of The Unspoken was beset upon them, and a depraved corruption spread throughout them like a plague.
Elvenkind tamed the northern jungle; steadfast in their expansion. Favored in the eyes of The Benevolent, they were spared a gruesome annihilation. They would then strive for perfection.
Gigas migrated east from the northernmost plains, where they discovered the mountains and the trees of the north-eastern taigas and its inhabitants. They formed long-lasting alliances.
The Orcish warred through the eastern steppes; the soil was bloodied beneath their feet in the opposing conquests  — one of despotism, one of sovereignty. Their conflict spread like wildfire.
Keemphast spread across Solum en masse like a sentient famine which devoured all life within reach. The lands were stricken with desolation, and the gnomes were forced into withdrawal.
The Kuo-Toa emerged from the depths of the ocean unannounced as they led their religious crusade against the land-dwellers. They served an unknown master, but their intentions were clear.
Solum: Tale of a Crescent Moon  is a tabletop RPG story that I am currently working on, and is a partial continuation of an earlier ‘Dawn of Worlds’ Campaign that a friend of mine had been running some time ago. I intend to create, and eventually, GM an entire campaign revolving around my Solum: TCM storyline, but in the meantime, I am still developing it.
That said, I do have the majority of the plot and structure worked out, and I am mostly just working on adding lore, worldbuilding, and piecing everything together.
Feel free to follow me on this creative journey, as TCM is far from your average fantasy tale...

WELCOME TO THE CRESCENT MIND AU BLOG
Hi and welcome! I’m Crescent (@crescentrivers) and when I was eleven I got way too into Sanders Sides. I decided to make characters to represent my own sides, each based on a canon SaSi character but changed to fit me. This eventually turned into TCM au, an au based on the plot of SaSi but changed to fit my own life and changed for various other reasons. I made this side (heh) blog so I have a place to yap about their lore and share progress updates on the fic project!
Sanders Sides (and by extension these ocs) is no longer my special interest, but when it was I decided I wanted to start a fan series, it went on hiatus and while I was planning to bring it back for a variety reasons (personal life changes, losing interest, realizing trying to draw that much would take actually forever) I have decided to downscale it instead. Expect a fic on ao3 with some art, I may also voice the scripts on my YouTube eventually or even make animatics of some scenes.
Info about (some of) the characters in this post!
Disclaimers and serious stuff under the cut
I am a minor! Therefore these characters are minors! Also TCM takes place in the past kind of (act one aka where we are in the fan series rn takes place from summer 2023 to summer 2024) so they’re even more minors!!! I am completely fine with shipping but be reasonable about it. And with shipping I ask that you don’t ship anything that would be considered incest (aka don’t ship the siblings together, I’m iffy about TCM!Crescent x sides but it’s still allowed technically)
TCM’s sides have many more similarities in what they represent and color associations to canon compared to most side ocs I see. That and many plot elements of the au are based on plot events from canon. For this reason it is important everyone understands that TCM au is not meant to be a “better” version of Sanders Sides, the changes it makes as an au are made because TCM!Crescent and C!Thomas are different people in different situations, the TCM sides are different characters, and because I wanted to make sure things were different enough people get something new out of the fan series. The last thing I want people to see this au as is a rewrite made out of dislike for the source material, SaSi isn’t perfect but neither is TCM and this au is not meant to make it better. I genuinely love the original source material,
TCM!Crescent is based off me, but she is not me. Differences in our personality and lives exist for various reasons, not everything they do is something I would do.
One of the reasons for TCM fanseries’ hiatus was a realization about myself, namely that I am plural. For this reason please keep in mind that TCM!Crescent and her sides are not meant to be a representation of my plurality or plurality in general. I’m fine with that interpretation/headcanon (I may even joke about it myself occasionally) but that’s not my intention. TCM!Crescent and her sides do not work the same way as my plurality does, please do not use anything that happens in this au to make assumptions about my system and the people in it. (I should also mention that I’m a mixed origin system and therefore very pro endo. Because that has nothing to with the actual contents of this blog antis can still interact, don’t bring syscourse here please I just want to yap about my comfort ocs)
