TBT when I was watching S2 Mando and remembering that I DID sense chemistry between Din Djarin and Bo Katan Kryze, but I wouldn’t let myself ship it because I thought I was overreacting and didn’t appreciate platonic friendships between men and women enough, only to watch all of S3 Mando, including Guns for Hire and “Your Song is Not Yet Written…”

Kate is glad to have Edwina there. Though she does want some quality time with her new husband, she enjoys seeing her sister. Their bond will always be important to Kate. So when Edwina asks if she wants her to leave, Kate shakes her head and reaches for Edwina's hand. "Not at all, Bon. You are welcome to stay as long as you like." She would never dream of making Edwina go. Their sisterly bond means everything to her. And though things are a bit awkward at times, Kate would never trade that for anything. Never.

When Edwina mentions leaving for London, Kate frowns. "You do not have to leave. I just...I thought you wanted to. But I would be happy to be wrong." She had missed Edwina and is happy to see her again. Though the season is set to start up soon, and she herself will be making the journey to London soon as well. Still, she does not want Edwina to feel forced to go. Not at all. She wants her sister to feel comfortable in her presence, always. "We could go back to London together, once the season starts. If that's alright with you?" Kate doesn't want to assume anything. That is partly what had gotten her in trouble last season. Luckily everything had turned out okay, but she still feels guilt for ruining her sister's happiness, even if it was only for a time.

"So you want me to leave?" The tone in Edwina's voice wasn't accusing. She could understand that her sister wanted to be alone with her new husband. And it was still difficult for the young woman to be around Anthony Bidgerton after everything that had happened. No matter how genuine her happiness for their love was. How great fortune she wished her sister as new Viscountess. But @realmyths and her mother had always been the closest people in Edwina's life. She had spent so many years with no one but them back in Bombay. The possibility of not being welcomed by Kate anymore hurt. "But you're right! Perhaps it's best. I'll leave for London in the morning." She forced a smile on her lips as she gracefully rose from her seat.

hello again! another 2-weeker because I was in Washington (Da Capital) for a portion of last week for an academic conference and boy howdy did that sap my will to live/energy to post.

listening: I finished relistening to TANIS! season 5 felt completely unfamiliar so I either never actually listened to it or it was just that forgettable. which tbh, it was. very forgettable. definitely good background white noise but really nothing cooking in there. very clear to me that at the end there terry miles was way more interested in writing a book than an audio drama.

for the sake of completeness I also am relistening to the black tapes. definitely a more cohesive narrative happening there even though I know the "finale" is looming ahead. also has not generally aged super well, and some of the attempts at writing academic experts of things in make me laugh a lot, and the overlap in voice actors for side characters is also amusing. I think this universe of podcasts only work if TANIS is a fictional podcast in TBT and vice-versa but that's not news. also why did they make cuneiform on…parchment…as a plot point in s3…it's cuneiform…wouldn't it be on a slab of clay…anyways a reference to "current political discourse" in a s3 ep made me check the date and I didn't realize that this came out in 2020????? insane. way more recent than I thought (derogatory).

music-wise, saw Mahjong Crib live a few weeks ago at a local bar so I've been letting that run in the background. the bassist was incredibly high (as he should be) and very funny. the last song of the set he put the bass down and started going ham on cowbell. definitely in the family of freeform jazz which isn't normally my thing. still not sure this band is my thing, will probably not be purchasing this album for example.

reading: How Cheerleading Became So Acrobatic, Dangerous and Popular (David Gauvey Herbert): what it says on the tin. didn't realize how much of it came down to monopoly of an industry again. womp womp.

read these both on the plane back from the conference: By Proxy (Lise): mind the tags. really nailed a good dynamic between LWJ and JC imo. Wuxian The Ninth (spockandawe): was linked by the author in a server we're both in. the choice to just do the intro and finale is so incredibly valid. I should do that for my abhorsen/TLT crossover actually because I have the beginning done and definitely have a finale cooking in my head but writing all the bits in the middle seems exhausting and this has made it occur to me that I am allowed to just. skip all the shit in the middle. nothing is stopping me.

making: I have been speed knitting a pair of fingerless gloves for my mom! chose this pattern specifically to do them flat style because I was on the go and didn't want to think about using dpns, and I don't have the equipment for knitting in the round comfortably on that small of a scale.

finished carving the block for my holiday cards BUT printing them has proved. challenging. I have what turns out to be kinda shitty water-based ink that is a real pain in the ass to do more than one print at a time with because it dries so fast. it's also applying and printing extremely unevenly and patchy, and while I don't actually mind the texture that adds, the fact that I have to wash off my block & roller every 2-3 prints or so is really stymying my speed. I am abusing my boyfriend's amazon prime to get an oil-based printmaking ink shipped to me so I have put further printing on hold til today when that allegedly arrives. I miss living in closer proximity to a more professional art supply store :-( I've printed about 15 or 20 now and depending on how much nicer the ink looks I may restart lol… either way next year I think I will get thicker paper to mail postcard-style instead of in an envelope to save on postage and work? we'll see. I'm hand delivering around half of my cards over the course of the holidays as it is to make it simpler and cut back on the amount of envelopes and postage I'll need anyways so it's really not TOO bad…

I kind of want to carve a return label stamp as well but obviously the scale/detail of that is more challenging. the easier move is to order return label stickers obviously so maybe I will design some of those, not for this year at this time scale but y'know. I was thinking of putting up my holiday card designs on redbubble or etsy or whatever as well just for funsies.

eating: made deb smittenkitchen's lentil soup with sausage, chard and garlic! really good! my sausages are generic beef from the farmers market so I feel like I lost a little flavor in there by not using some sort of sweet or spicy sausage but it's still tasty and filling. according to comments it freezes very well so I made the full recipe and will be freezing about four servings. I am rich in frozen soups rn.

I was GOING to make her crispy cauliflower and cabbage salad as well but the half a head of cabbage I had in the fridge tragically finally went bad. so instead I did an improvization at her cauliflower with dates and pistachios salad. I did not have dates or pistachios, subbed in craisins and almond slivers, lmfao, but still tasty and has the same structure. I also got some salmon burgers from kroger that have TWENTY FIVE GRAMS of protein each and were very tasty.

misc: feeling very [horror movie scare chord] from networking at that conference. my advisor's previous student who I did not overlap with but am familiar because I have continued his work casually commented that he applied to over Four Hundred Jobs before getting the one he currently has that he. does not even like that much. (I think? unclear. he is kind of a hater at heart in the funniest possible way, bless him.) so I have the fear of god in me a little bit but it's Fine, I'm doing what I'm "supposed" to be doing that a lot of other people are not by doing extensive networking and looking for summer internships for what will hopefully be the last summer of my PhD program.

I gotta start thinking about my yearly roundup too!!! I did a bad job of keeping a spreadsheet this year for this to note everything down in an easy format so maybe I will do that in retrospect as a time-filling activity in the next few weeks…

how would hournite have gone on with no development with s3 confirming they get married later? That would be the biggest drama. If stargirl got renewed they would have to deliver. They’d HAVE give us fans something. Right? (Right!? 😰)

The marriage reveal in the finale was always something I think was only going to happen if it was the SERIES finale. If it were just a season, I don’t think there would have been anything and Hournite fans could rightfully be mad waiting for season four.

I think part of the issue with Hournite is a) Courtney was always going to need to have her relationship(s) prioritized and b) Geoff Johns only wanted to put them together towards the end, since he stated that he doesn’t like when couples are together and stay together with no drama (which was kind of elaborated when Steve Harper came on The Squadcast— a shameless self-plug, but also kind of a tbt lmfao). So, they might have written slightly more flirtatious dialogue, but I don’t think any romance would have been in the cards until season 5 (but it would have been smooth sailing* from there on out).

*Smooth sailing from a couple standpoint. From the fandom standpoint I think people would vent their frustrations every week until Hournite held hands in a park together or something lmfao

Rumor and speculations hint glass candles in S3.

Apparently it won't be a huge thing (or so he says. I don't trust Condal that much). But If this is true... why we are told about it only now, in S3? Like, ok, they decided to show the Reach only in S3, so it's normal to show glass candles only now. Daeron was in Oldtown so maybe he could be the one to have a candle. BUT he's not a maester, the Citadel is the only one to have glass candles, if Condall is so "I'm the lore guy", he knows this too.

People suggest that's why Helaena hacked into Daemon's vision, because she's the one to have a candle.... I can't remember them mentioning glass candles in previous seasons, if that was the case, the candle could be some sort of chekov's gun. But they didn't mention, I guess? 🤔

And tbt, this show had A LOOOT of time to mention candles, or put a glass candle in the background somewhere. Iirc snail pace is most common in doramas, but we are not in a dorama. If not even Daeron who was in Oldtown lore-wise isn't allowed to have one, why should Helaena? How did she get it?

But here's my point: even if she was able to get one thanks to our formidable writers, and hack into Daemon's vision, why would he trust her presence on the matter?

Picture this: After all those visions, somehow Helaena who he hates with burning passion (don't tell me he doesn't hate her anymore, he still does. It's Daemon, not Jon Snow we are talking about), shows up, and he's "nah, ok"?

Daemon-with-functional-braincells would think "wait, what if all those visions were because of this damn hightower beyotch? Winter is coming my ass". He would totally dismiss those visions the moment he sees Helaena, he has no idea of what happened and how, but if a hightower is involved, f*ck it, he doesn't care, no reason to trust a hightower or anything related to them.

It would be really nice to see Hel defeat her son's murderer with only visions and a glass candle, but in terms of plot logic and internal coherence it doesn't work. But atp we all know how hotd loves to empower their women at the cost of logic, plot and pacing, right?

Idk, I get the feeling Condal came up with it now in order to justify that random Daemon-Helaena scene hein? Fanfic writers have a keen nose for these kind of maneuvers, after so many years writing our own stories we can identify these last-minute fixes miiiiiiles away.

Or maybe I'm just seeing things, who knows...

I love that the bold type is one if the few mainstream shows talking about body positivity. But it does concern me that their "real women" are the main cast, whom are all incredibly thin, and Paige, who never gives her own opinions on body positivity. It just rubs me the wrong way a bit that this show's discussion of body positivity revolves around very thin women embracing their insecurities and not focusing on the experiences of fat women that kickstarted the movement and face the brunt of the abuse on behalf of the movement

max hates asking for help, goes against the very fiber of her being but she's fifteen and she can't drive and the hospital billy's being hauled up in is a 45-minute drive from town, a specialist burns unit that hawkins general can't offer, so they'd moved him a few days ago, neil is MIA which is a good thing really, she hates the man, but it means her mom's a wreck, why she cares about that asshole is beyond max. so, she's here, on steve's door step, looking exhausted and defeated, skate board balanced up against her leg, a deep breath in before she finally presses the door bell and waits.

"uh, hey. you busy? i was wondering if you could maybe give me a ride, to the hospital, they moved billy a couple of days ago, burns unit up in hammond, could you drive me?" chewing anxiously on the skin on her lip, "doesn't have to be today, s'kinda late -- maybe tomorrow after school?" she asks hoping steve will say yes. she hates the thought of billy being alone, even if they weren't close before all this, watching him almost die in her arms really put things into a different perspective.

anyway, the difference between s1 with klaus in the car and diego being all “my body is a temple” vs s3 with allison and him going “check the glovebox” … the sixties were not kind to these kids and it hurts my heart.
