"It was great snow today," Jack says.

"Tomorrow'll probably be a great day to learn to ski."

Kyoko ignores her in favor of smiling at the latest bar patron to walk in the door. Her hands work without her brain matching it, automatically refilling Jack's perpetually-half-drunken glass - it takes a lot of water to keep her tongue from drying out.

"Come ooooon, Kyo-kyo!" Jack whines, giving up any pretense of professionalism to flop against the bar. "It's so booooring without you. Think how much fun it'd be!"

Kyoko stares, unimpressed. "To watch me fall down over and over?"

"Exactly!" Jack grins, teeth shark-sharp. "My cute little Kyoko Puff, all covered in snow. Adorable!"

Kyoko's busies herself putting the water back before Jack can see her smile. Still, she feels certain that Jack just knows, somehow, with an uncanny insight that she displays so often. "I'm not unterested," Kyoko says as she turns around. "But thank you."

"One of these days," Jack says, and it would almost sound threatening if she weren't half-giggling through it - "One of these days, I'm getting you on that mountain!"

"Good luck with that," Kyoko says, and finds herself meaning it.

- this is just about Kyoko and Syo so this au just swaps syo and kyoko's talents. toko remains the ult writer

- this time the top secret kirigiri family business happens to be on... the other side of the law... yeah.

- the anonymous detective syo has solved several murder cases by tipping off the police and writing out detailed accounts of their deductions but no one can figure out who they are.

- syo remains as obsessive and eccentric as ever (also she owns a conspiracy theory board because toko needed to give her a designated space to work on cases away from her novels) which contrasts kyoko's calm and calculating persona

- and well, even if syo does identify the so-called "ultimate killer"... it's not like she promised to use her talent for good or anything

- in summary: evil lady rights 💜💜

Summary: It started when Kyoko visited Towa City. A small, minuscule, totally not-at-all-dramatic mystery that was definitely not blown out of proportion.
