cuddling w/ tilly?? besides pike and lorca I adore her sm <3
Hope you like it!
Cuddling with Tilly would include:
Tumblr media
•there’s no such thing as a short or insignificant hug with Tilly. Every hug has a special meaning or a purpose.
•if you’re both in a horizontal position- perhaps laid down looking out at the stars- she’ll absolutely lay on top of you for a hug, or she’ll tug you on top of her; there’s no shying away or trying to lift weight off one another, just pure love and it’s rooted in the physical reality of cradling one another in every single sense!
•before one or two of you go off the ship for a mission you’ll have a bone crushingly tight hug! Seriously, it might leave bruises! And you two are always told to hurry along, because you delay the departure.
•and then naturally there are the hugs when you or she gets back- she’ll go almost limp against you, sinking into your arms as relief washes over her.
•she is a bit of a hug-fiend. She loves them! So you get good morning hugs that last twenty minutes- good night hugs that’ll last until you’re both soundly asleep and only then do you both roll away!
•if there’s good news she’ll leap into your arms! You’re always ready to catch her though! You absolutely expect her to leap into your arms, dragging you closer to celebrate whatever wonderful thing has happened!
•ultimately her hugs are completely laced with all her love, all her hope, all her fears, absolutely every emotion she has in relation to you. Her hugs that are reserved for you are different and unique, her heart is yours- and her hugs are yours too.

[Sylvia Tilly] Experiments
Tumblr media
♫ - The Night We Met - Lord Huron & Phoebe Bridgers
This is for the Anon that gave me free reign on a choice or character, and simply gave me a prompt; there is not enough Tilly out there in the world! Thank you again, precious human! Enjoy! Hugs! ♡
Sick bay was not quite where you envisioned you would be on a fine evening like the present one. Though that was not to say it wasn't entirely your own fault you had ended up in such a place.
"Experiments go wrong all the time, this one can't be that bad, perhaps a small spark, maybe a few flames; you're disregarding the fact that this could well be a success, Commander."
Your over confidence in your abilities did not impress Saru, and he simply clicked his tongue at you and shot a disapproving look, or perhaps it was disappointment, either way it was far from good. You patted his shoulder and laughed, knowing that he didn't truly mean it. You had always gotten along with the Kelpien, and you knew despite his demeanour, his words carried no weights and he meant well. Saru simply sighed, leaving you in engineering with your issue-waiting-to-happen with some sarcastic last words.
"Well, good luck."
"What are we needing luck for?" Came a spry voice, the voice of Cadet Tilly, someone you were always glad to see. She had a charm and an infectious happiness, and you turned to grin at her with a wink.
"This bad boy." You pointed to the mess of wires and metal in front of you, and she widened her eyes.
"And that is what, exactly?"
"Oh, you'll see."
Those were the last words you remembered saying before you awoke in the medical bay, Dr Culber standing over you with a PADD in hand. He raised one eyebrow at you as you adjusted your eyes to the bright lights in the room, and you heard him chuckle to himself.
"It's always you, isn't it, Y/N?" Not uncaring, rather amused was his voice, and you sat up and stuck your tongue out at him.
"Oh shut up, Hugh. If it weren't for me you wouldn't have a job in here, I'm doing you a favour by consistently giving you something to do."
He laughed, hitting your leg lightly with the PADD.
"That you are."
You turned your head to see who was occupying the space next to you, and you gasped aloud when you saw Tilly there, awake but lay down, slight scratches and bruises adorning her arms and face. Instantly you were up, alert and feeling very guilty.
"Tilly," your voice was concerned but quiet, wanting not to disturb her or startle her. "I'm so sorry, are you in here because of that stupid experiment?"
"Yeah, but it was worth it, you should've seen Paul's face!" Her voice echoed, sounding almost humoured by the experience. You joined in.
"And you should have heard him rant afterwards, you wouldn't be laughing then, kids." Dr Culber's voice quipped in, and you shot Tilly a glance to find she was doing the same to you. The three of you shared a laugh, before Hugh left to continue with his work, leaving you alone in the room with Tilly.
"I really am sorry, you shouldn't be here just because of my stupidity."
"No, stop," she started, reaching out over the side table in request of your hand, which you gave her with no hesitation. "Anyway, it gives me a better chance to get to know you, right?"
You smiled at her, overwhelming optimism of Sylvia Tilly seemed to overcome any bad situation you were presented with.
The two of you sat upright now, facing one another in your respective beds, and began firing questions at the other. By the end of the hour, you managed to ascertain her favourite colour, her first pet, her favourite food and were told several anecdotes about her time at both the academy and her childhood growing up. She had learned all about you, your experiences growing up, and your favourite films to watch from the 'olden' days.
"Well, you're very free to go now, kids, please no more making bombs, Y/N, if I could be so kind as to ask that of you." He smiled, you and Tilly shooting him one back.
"I can't promise, but I can try."
Readying to leave sick bay, you were stopped by a hand on your arm and a shy red headed woman stood before you. She wasn't looking at you, rather down at the floor, almost nervously.
"Uh, I was wondering, you know, if maybe uh, you would want to get to know each other a little more, I would hate for this to be it, and uh, I- I really enjoyed our conversation and- and I'm rambling now so I'll shut up-"
You cut her words off with a finger against her lips and a wide smile.
"Tilly, your brain must work at a thousand miles an hour, it's a marvel. Yes, I absolutely would love that. I enjoyed it too, and I would love to get to know you further, if you'll allow such a thing." The sincerity in your voice threw her off, and she stuttered out her next words.
"Oh, I- I yeah, absolutely, I'd never say to to that, maybe later then? For dinner? Or if that's not alright we could do it another time, I really don't-"
Again she was cut off, this time with your hand under her chin and a small kiss against her forehead.
"Absolutely. I'll see you later on."
Leaving Tilly stood grinning like an idiot, you left, not letting on that you were doing the same. Nobody could have predicted that an experiment gone wrong could have brought two people together quite like that. It most certainly was not a normal occurrence, but then who ever wanted normality?

Just Ask
Tumblr media
Words: 405
Pairing: Tilly x Reader
A/N:  I really really like how this one turned out
Request: Could we get a Michael x friend reader and Tilly x reader where Michael tries to convince the reader to ask Tilly out because she knows the reader has feelings for her? - Anon
______________________
“So we’ll meet at my quarters after shift and run together?” Tilly re-confirmed.
“Yeah sounds good.”
“Don’t be late.” she winked, a beaming smile on her face as she began to leave for the bridge.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” you called after her.
You looked back down to your lunch and could feel Michael’s eyes on you. “What is it?”
“I’m just thinking about how cute together the two of you would be.”
You dropped your fork “excuse me?” your tone was shocked but you couldn’t help the smile that played on your lips.
“Oh come on Y/N. I know she likes you because she won’t stop talking about you and you’re not that subtle about liking her either.”
“Yeah Tilly’s a good friend.”
“You and I both know that you want it to be something more. The both of you do.” you tried to get words out but Michael just laughed “Seriously Y/N you better ask her out on a proper date tonight. Don’t waste time, it’s too precious.”
“Are you sure you won’t mind two of your closest friends possibly dating?”
“Nothing would make me happier.”
You smiled at Michael’s response and got back to your food as Stamets slid into the chair that Tilly had not long been sitting in. “So why’re you two so happy?”
“No reason-”
“Y/N is going to ask Tilly out on a proper date tonight.”
“Michael… it doesn’t need to become common knowledge.”
Stamets looked between the two of you before contributing “I think it’s a brilliant idea, the best couples always start out as friends. Besides it might mean Tilly will actually concentrate properly on her work when you walk into the room.”
You felt embarrassment rise within you “Can we move away from this topic? Please? Otherwise you’ll just make me overthink it and not do it.”
Paul put his hands up “Fine by me. I’m sure I’ll hear how it goes anyway.”
“Word does travel quickly on the ship.” Michael looked at you with a slight smile on her face as she quirked a teasing eyebrow.
You rolled your eyes. “So tell me Stamets, how’s the research going?”
The man plunged into a deep discussion about his recent research and you semi-listened but your brain was mainly occupied with how you’d ask Tilly on a date.

Michael Burnham, Sylvia Tilly, Saru, and Paul Stamets Discovering You’re Autistic
Requested by anonymous
Michael Burnham:
Tumblr media
After her upbringing by both humans and vulcans, and a career as a xenobiologist, she’s able to take any manner of unexpected behavior in stride. She didn’t seem to give you weird looks or think of you differently, but you still wanted to explain, so you did. She listened while you talked her through your autism, and asked a few questions. She promised she still saw you as the same intelligent, kind, funny person and that she was proud to be trusted enough by you to know so much about you.
Sylvia Tilly:
Tumblr media
Tilly was no stranger to stimming (she’s been known to repeat words she likes and jump up and down after a particularly successful mission) so she didn’t think it was strange when she saw you stimming for the first time. She was glad to learn you were autistic, and she took note of all the setoffs you told her of so she can make sure you’re comfortable.
Saru:
Tumblr media
He would ask you for an explanation of your actions, since it was the first time he’d experienced a human behaving that way. When you explained your autism, he’d be very curious but he wouldn’t judge you for a moment. He’d learn your schedule, do his own research, and he would love finding out more about your special interests.
Paul Stamets:
Tumblr media
He would let you be while you were stimming and wait until you came to him to explain. He would understand when you told him you were autistic, and he’d make sure there weren’t any adjustments that needed to be made for you. Then, he’d tell you he was glad to find out, and treat you like nothing was different aside from knowing a little more about your needs and personality.

Sylvia Tilly - Romance In Sickbay
Requested? Yes, by user kate_the_dork on wattpad Word count? 997
Support me on Ko-Fi!
“Have a seat,” you instructed Tilly as you pulled your cart of instruments over to the biobed.
Tilly did as she was told and looked around sickbay nervously. It wasn’t that she was nervous for her check up. No, she was quite used to having check ups done as per the requirements of Starfleet. She was nervous because you were doing her examination. Tilly had developed a huge crush on you over the past few months. She did her best to hide it (or so she thought) because she was quite worried about how you would react.
“If you’re busy, I can come back another time,” Tilly said.
You shook your head. “I’m not busy. Besides, this appointment was scheduled into my shift, so I made the time for it. Its not that bad. You have nothing to be worried about. I know doctor’s visits can sometimes cause some anxiety.”
Awkwardly, she nodded.
You held up a small flashlight. “All right, I’m just going to test your pupillary responses. So I just need you to look straight ahead and I’m going to shine this line to your eyes, okay?”
She nodded. “So just stare like right in front of me? At you?”
You smiled softly and turned the flashlight on. “Yup. Keep your gaze steady.”
Tilly looked ahead, focusing her eyes on the collar of your uniform. You moved the flashlight from eye to eye, and after you were satisfied with the results, you turned the flashlight off.
“All right, your eyes look good. I’ll do a quick hearing test next. So I’m going to just whisper a series of numbers in either ear and then get you to repeat them back to me.”
A shiver ran down Tilly’s spine at the thought of you whispering in her ear. She nodded quickly. “Oh okay. Sure.”
You leaned in at her right ear. “Three, eight, one, four,” you whispered, breath fanning Tilly’s ear.
“Three,” she said once you were done. “Eight, one, four.”
“Good.” You smiled and moved to her other ear. “Five, two, seven, nine, thirteen.”
Tilly repeated the numbers to you, trying her best to focus on the task at hand and not the feeling in the pit of her stomach from being so close to you.
“Excellent,” you said. “I’m going to test your reflexes next, then just take some scans of your body to finish off the check up. Sound good?”
“Oh, it’s almost over?” she asked. She had been so nervous for it to start that she’d wanted to cancel, but now that it was happening Tilly felt as though she didn’t want it to end.
You nodded and picked up your reflex hammer. You first tested the reflexes of her knees with one hand on her thigh to hold it down gently.
Tilly’s cheeks flushed pink when your hand was on her. She hoped you wouldn’t notice.
“Reflexes here are good,” you said. “Now I’m going to check your arms.”
You moved her arm in the correct position, tested the reflex, then did the same to the other. You smiled at her. “Good.”
“What do your scans detect?” she asked, a sudden realization dawning on her. What if they showed increased hormones or something else that would tell you she was attracted to you?
“They show a number of things,” you said, picking up your scanner. “They tell me your heartrate, blood pressure, neurotransmitters, microbiome, any infections or diseases lurking in your system… and the general health of each organ. Why? Is there something in particular I should look out for?”
Tilly shook her head quickly, perhaps a little too quickly. “No, I’m just curious.”
As you scanned her, Tilly felt her anxiety heighten. Finally, she couldn’t take it any longer. “I have a crush on you,” she blurted out.
Your eyes widened and you moved the scanner away for a moment. You looked up at her face, seeing the nervousness and shock of what she’d just said.
“I’m sorry,” she said, laughing awkwardly. “I didn’t mean to say that. Not that it isn’t true, because it is. I’ve just been so nervous because this appointment has gotten us physically closer and I’ve never really been this close to you before. And I totally get it if you don’t feel the same way. I just figured your scans would show you something and you’d get curious or worried that there was something wrong with me medically. Did I just make this super awkward? I’m so sorry.”
You held up your hand. “Sylvia, hey, it’s fine. I did notice your increased heartrate and dilated pupils.”
“Oh.”
“And you didn’t make it awkward,” you assured her, placing your hand onto her shoulder. “I have a bit of a crush on you, too.”
“You do? You’re not just saying that to make this less weird?”
You laughed softly. “No. I think you’re cute, and kind, and funny, and fun to be around. I was actually really glad when I found out that I was assigned to do your physical. It gave me a reason to spend some time with you.”
Tilly couldn’t help the smile from spreading across her face. “So… so, would you like to um… go on a date or something sometime?”
You smiled. “That would be nice. Maybe we could grab dinner sometime this week when we’re both free?”
Tilly bit her lip, trying to get her smile to settle down a little. She nodded. “I’ll let you know my schedule after my shift.”
“Can’t wait. Now, other than your heartrate increase, I’m giving you a clean bill of health.”
“My heartrate might be increased for the next few days until that date happens,” Tilly admitted. “And during the date. And after the date.”
“Are you sure your heart can handle us going on a date?” you teased with an affectionate smile.
Tilly laughed lightly. “I think it’ll be fine. If not, I know of a great doctor who can help me.”

Hey! I LOVE your pike fics <3 wanted to ask if you could write a fun pike x female reader where they’re on discovery but no one there knows they’re married so number one has a bet going on how long they can keep it a secret
Thank you, and thank you for the request, Anon! <3 I'm not sure this is going to be quite what you had in mind but I hope you like it anyway! I tried to keep the tone as fun but a couple of less fun things crept in, sorry about that. 😅 But it did sort of end up as a Pike fix-it fic so there's that I guess?
Tangled Web
Pairing: Christopher Pike x F!Reader (no Y/N) Warnings: mostly fun, some angst & Emotions™️, Spoilers for Discovery Season 2, canon character death (mentioned). Assume everything in canon that you don’t see here happens. WC: 5.4k Tag list: @jusvibbbin (to be added to my Pike X Reader taglist let me know)
Tumblr media
Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive! —Sir Walter Scott, Marmion
“There’s a bottle of Bowmore in it for you, Captain. If you can keep your marriage secret. Real single malt. From Islay. Eighteen years old.”
“Darling? We’ve got this.” His face on the view screen smiles that dimpled smile and already you know you’re in trouble.
*
Sometimes you’re glad you kept your maiden name.
Downside? Number One wouldn’t have been able to con you both into this ridiculous bet if you hadn’t.
Upside? People are honest with you, and that’s how you find out that in the couple of weeks you’ve been apart he has Nearly. Died. Twice.
*
“So, it turns out I know fifteen words for water.” You smile at Chris, sitting at his desk, listening as the computer reads a historical narrative. From the sphere, you surmise. He turns it off and stands, walking round the desk.
“Hello to you too, darling.” He smiles his crooked smile and steps in for a kiss, your arms going round his waist and his hands cupping your face. “I missed you.”
“Masu is Vulcan for water. Did you know that?” You kiss him, tender. You missed him, too. “Spock mentioned it once and I’m glad he did because the fifteenth time was the charm with my synthesiser.”
“Mmm... think I remember that one,” he murmurs, kissing you again, moving his hands down your body.
“So yeah, my first day hasn’t been very productive so far. I was going to go see your quarters, but I thought it was safer to stay put in mine.”
“Productivity can be overrated at times. I’m just glad to have you here.” You kiss one last time them you step back, releasing him.
“I wish it were under better circumstances,” you say, thinking of Connolly, his death being the reason Admiral Cornwell had transferred you, even though you’re glad to be back with your husband. “Any news on Spock?” You can see the concern in his bearing, as he walks back round to sit at the desk, even through his happiness at your reunion. You follow him, watching over his shoulder as he brings up the sensor logs on a shuttle.
“We were following his shuttle, but with the Sphere... we lost our sensor lock. I think we’re back to square one.” He shakes his head. “But the data it’s given us, though...” he grins at you, over his shoulder. “You’re gonna have a field day. Or year.” He presses a control on the desk and the computer starts talking.
“The war between the Quaternary star systems and the Roquarri Imperium—”
You’re still leaning down, a little too close to be professional, when the door opens and Commander Burnham walks in. You straighten, hurriedly.
“Captain, Lieutenant.” She nods at you, as Chris mutes the computer. “It’s good to meet you.” Her smile is warm.
“Commander, it’s good to meet you too. I’m hoping I can be of use to you here; I’ve been fully briefed on the red bursts.” You smile back, walking round the desk. “I’d better go synthesise a Discovery uniform, now I can talk to the computer again. If you’ll excuse me?”
“Dismissed, Lieutenant.” Chris says, and you leave without rushing, hearing Burnham asking about what the computer was saying when she walked in.
*
Two days, two crises. You had thought the Enterprise had more than her fair share of adventures, but you’re beginning to think she can’t hold a candle to the Discovery. You pop your head into Engineering, thinking you might be able to help – Burnham is there, your immediate superior, and as a theoretical physicist you can often help when something weird is going on in Engineering. But whatever is happening with the mycelial network is beyond your comprehension, and Burnham is clearly busy, so you retreat to Chris’s quarters this time, and catch yourself up on the spore drive.
At least until you hear his voice, over the comms: “Starfleet is a promise; I give my life for you, you give your life for me. And nobody gets left behind.”
His beliefs, and the way he follows through with them, are part of the reason you love him so much, and you’re thinking about his speech, and not about where you are, when you exit his quarters into corridor to go to a safe zone.
You almost get caught – there’s someone further down the corridor – and only the fact that they’re hurrying stops them from turning around.
And then – damn. You practically run into Commander Nhan. You had totally forgotten that she didn’t know about the bet; you’d been thinking about other things so you hadn’t said anything when you transferred over. Did she say anything? This is her second time on Discovery; would she know anyone well enough yet to talk about that kind of thing? Would she have had time?
You want to go and check on Chris after the ship is free of the network, but you’ll have to rein that instinct in if you want to keep up your charade. Instead, you catch up with Nhan in the Security Office.
“Commander, I was wondering if I could, uh, ask you for a favour. Did you happen to mention to anyone that the Captain and I are married?”
You try not to hold your breath, waiting for her response, but she smiles a slow, knowing smile.
“Number one told you, didn’t she?” You raise an eyebrow at her.
“She did,” she replies, not making it easy.
“And I’m guessing you’ve had time to think of what you’re asking for?”
“I have,” she replies. “It’ll cost you.”
*
“Damn. Well the good thing is that we’re heading to Starbase 17 for hull repairs. We should just about be able to swing it, but I’m going to owe Commander Nguyen...” he smiles his little half-smile. “I’m beginning to think this bet is going to be more trouble than it’s worth.”
“You’re the one that likes whisky so much. I’m just saying.” You smile as you unzip your jacket to start preparing for bed.
*
Despite her recent trauma, and despite the fact that technically you outrank her, Ensign Tilly takes you under her wing. You try not to get involved in personnel issues – you don’t want to risk asking for people you don’t like to be transferred – but after a duty shift where she explains all her theories so far about dark matter, the two of you bouncing ideas off of each other in a science lab, you think she would be excellent on the Enterprise. Louvier would love her mind. You’re resolving to tell Chris so when she invites you to dinner with Lieutenants Detmer and Owosekun, and Commander Burnham.
“So you’ve served on the Enterprise for a while, right?” Tilly asks over a forkful of food.
“Yes,” you reply, taking a sip of water. Wondering where this is going.
“Is the Captain always so... reckless? With his life?”
“Excuse me?” You ask, not understanding.
“Yeah the first day he was here, he almost ordered us to give up on him when his pod malfunctioned,” Detmer says, and you stare at her.
“He what? Pod? I don’t understand.”
They tell you the story of the Hiawatha, and rescuing him from the damaged pod. It’s fortunate you’ve eaten most of your dinner, because you’d had no idea how close you’d come to losing him, and you’ve well and truly lost your appetite.
And then Owosekun tells the story of him jumping on the phaser on Terralysium and you choke on the last of your water.
“Are you all right? Do you need me to call Doctor Pollard?” Tilly asks, as you see Detmer and Owosekun trade worried glances. Burnham goes to get you another glass of water from the synthesiser.
You wave your arm, trying to indicate that you’re fine, as you work to control your breathing. You take a careful mouthful of your new glass.
“I’m okay, really. A bit of water went down the wrong way. That’s all.”
*
“I know that look,” Chris says, looking up from the PADD he’s reading in some trepidation. You felt a bit bad for having left him to his own devices all evening, but he assured you he was busy with work. “What did I do?”
“I was having a nice dinner with Ensign Tilly and her friends in the mess hall,” you say. “Right up until Lieutenants Detmer and Owosekun told me how you’d nearly died. Twice. Care to explain how you neglected to tell me any of this?” You ask, as though you didn’t already know the answer. Chris would do anything for his crew, for people who need him. But you’re worried that he’s being maybe a little too reckless at times. Once again, you’re glad you’re here with him.
“I’m sorry. With everything happening, it didn’t seem important, either time. I’ll make it up to you.”
*
Starbase 17 has the best hasperat outside Bajor, so you’ve heard. Repairs are well underway, and you declined Ensign Tilly’s offer to dine with her friends again in favour of the dinner Chris is taking you out to in apology for not being forthcoming about his near-death experiences. Well, really it’s because you haven’t had the chance to go on an actual date in a very long time.
The base is in a complicated orbit around a gas giant – something to do with its satellites, you assume – and your booth has a full-length window looking down onto it. It’s a stunning view, changing all the time: intricate swirls of dark and light blue, with bands of purple and a ring of green storms, almost looking like jewels, close to the North Pole.
“You’ve outdone yourself this time, Chris,” you say, taking a bite of your hasperat soufflé. It’s spicy, very spicy, but the flavour is rich, complex, piquant. Not quite like anything you’ve tasted before. “The view is beautiful, and this is delicious.” You take another bite.
“So, is everything forgiven?”
You nod, gazing into his blue eyes. Somehow bluer in the light of the planet. “I do get it. The way you care... I love you for it. And I understand how after you do survive you don’t feel like it matters anymore. I just felt—I was a little blindsided.” You huff a laugh, a little rueful. “This bet isn’t helping.”
“We can forget that, if you want. If it’s making you uncomfortable. Number One’s... challenges... are not for everyone.”
“No, no. I’m good. I was just blindsided, like I said. I want to win, but if there’s anything else anyone can surprise me with? You let me know now.” You have another mouthful of your soufflé. It really is very good.
He half-smiles then takes a thoughtful bite himself. “I don’t think there’s anything else. It... would have been a little strange, suddenly introducing you as my wife, too. This crew’s been through a lot; I had already thought it would be better to keep my personal life personal with them.” He catches your eye and grins. “I can’t wait to see Number One’s face when we win, though.” And you’d reach over and kiss him, seeing that expression on his face, those dimples, if you weren’t in public and he wasn’t a captain, and if, at that moment, you didn’t hear a familiar voice—
“I’m so happy I finally get to try it. Mom wouldn’t let me; we passed through here once when I was a teen, and she said it would be too spicy for me, but I don’t care. I think they have milk on hand just in case...”
“I’ve never had it either, but Sarek said he had some when he attended a conference on Bajor. He said it reminded him of a Vulcan dish made with redspice.”
You and Chris lock eyes, but before you can say anything the waiter comes over.
“Captain, I hope everything is all right for you and your lady this evening.”
“Please. Less of the Captain. I’m off duty.” He smiles, charming, indicating his civvies. You smile too, leaning out a little to see if you can see Tilly and Burnham. You see a shock of red curls, and a head bent over a menu PADD, partially obscured by a plant with deep green leaves. They can’t have seen you, and Discovery is not the only ship docked here. There must be half a dozen captains on the base at least.
“Everything is delicious. Please pass along our compliments to the chef.”
You finish your mains, a little closer to the window than before. Then you linger over dessert. And a cheese board. And coffee. Before Tilly and Burnham finally leave. At least the view keeps changing.
*
The mess hall is bustling with the alpha shift breakfast crowd when you catch up with Commander Nhan. She has finished eating, and is reading a PADD over a cup of what looks like some type of tea. You put your tray down on her table, with your Greek yoghurt and fresh fruit, orange juice, Americano and—
“Flower candies!” Her eyes light up as she takes them, and you don’t think you’ve ever seen her so animated before. “I didn’t think you’d actually manage...” she carefully unpeels the red flower shaped sticker that seals the bag, and gently shakes a little flower shaped sweet into her hand.
She shuts her eyes as she savours the taste.
“Thank you.” She says, fervent. “But how did you find them?”
“And what are they?” Lieutenant Bryce asks, as he and Rhys join you at the table.
“They’re Barzanian flower candies. C—Captain Pike got them for her from the Starbase – apparently Commander Nguyen is a bit of a connoisseur of non-Federation delicacies. I’m just playing messenger.”
And then you realise it’s 07:00, and if they think too hard about things—
But happily they’re asking for one each to try, and Nhan is telling them how she would have them as a special treat after the first day of school every year, and you spend the rest of breakfast chatting with her, Rhys and Bryce about your schooldays.
She gives you a candy, too. It tastes a little like ripe strawberries and roses.
*
Even after Discovery has had yet another exciting day, with the confrontation with the Ba’ul, you still have to take care of routine matters. Like today’s the day you have to take your quarterly hypos.
And as you walk into sickbay, you nearly walk into Chris on his way out.
“Captain,” you say, off balance. Somehow, you’d forgotten that he would be here for the same reason as you.
“Lieutenant,” he says, with a sparkle in his eye.
Doctor Pollard is thoughtful as she conducts her exam and gives you your shots. She’s clearly wondering about the coincidence, but the first thing you did, before you had even arrived on Discovery, was to have Chris hack their copy of your records to remove any mention of your relationship status. And thank goodness for doctor-patient confidentiality – she can’t outright ask because she’d have to tell you why Chris had been here.
Still it’s yet another close call.
*
You’re in Engineering when Discovery encounters the time rift, helping Reno with recalibrating some sensors. Accounting for quantum drift was something you’d worked with Louvier on the sensors in the Enterprise’s intermix chamber, and you were happy to do the same for Discovery.
But even as a physicist, you can’t do anything without data, as Chris points out to you in the corridor outside engineering when he lets you know that he’s going to pilot a shuttle close to the anomaly.
“Come back safe,” you say, hands clasped behind your back to keep from reaching out to him.
“I will,” he replies as he nods and leaves.
“Does Captain Pike always check with his junior science staff before going on away missions?” Reno raises an inquisitive brow as you return to where you were working.
You huff a laugh, awkward. “He just knows my interest in phenomena like this. He wants me to be ready to help with the analysis when he returns.” You enter a couple more commands. “I think this is ready to test now; Discovery’s drive is a little different to the Enterprise’s, but I think we’ve made the correct adjustments...”
Lucky for you, Reno loves engines more than gossip.
*
Given Spock’s news about the end of all sentient life, winning a bet seemed a little trivial. But then, you thought, isn’t triviality worth fighting for? The ability to be whimsical? A part of what it actually means to be sentient? So—
“I fail to see the logic of this deception. Surely your fleet connections, or even your parents, could get you an equivalent beverage? Even if alcohol consumption was logical, which I contend it is not.”
“You’d think.” Chris shrugs. Despite the circumstances his relief at having Spock back and in one piece is palpable. “Ask Number One about the logic, Lieutenant.”
“Very well, Captain, Lieutenant. I will not contradict this lie. Unless I am asked directly – Vulcans do not dissemble.”
*
You make a point to spend at least some time in your own quarters every day, so you head there after your chat with Spock and Chris in the ready room. And that’s good, because not long after the door chimes. It’s Ensign Tilly.
“Do you play Kadis-kot? A few of us are meeting up in the mess hall for a game, and I just wondered if you’d like to join us?”
“Kadis-kot? I would love to. I haven’t played in years.”
You think, on your way to the mess hall, that a games night is a good idea for crew morale. You may have Spock back but you’re fugitives now, with everything else, which is a weird feeling. It must be even stranger for Chris, too. His belief in Starfleet has been the guiding principle of his life for years. You know you’re doing the right thing, but it must be tough for him.
“I’m beginning to think you invited me here just so you could beat me,” you complain, after successive humiliating defeats to Tilly and Airiam.
“Oh didn’t I tell you? I don’t play against them anymore. They’re too good.” Detmer grins from where she’s playing across from Owo.
“Would I do such a thing?” Tilly grins, as the mess hall door opens.
“Would you do what, Ensign?” Chris asks as he walks in, and of course everyone goes quiet. “At ease, everyone. Just wanted to check you’re all okay. I’m not here to shut anything down.”
“Would I invite the Lieutenant to games night just to have someone new to beat at Kadis-kot, Captain. And the answer is no. Definitely not.” Conversation starts up again, though perhaps a little more muted than before.
“Would you like to play?” You ask before you really think. You figure you’ve got a decent chance of beating him, since you’ve never heard him mention playing. But then you realise everyone is looking at you both.
“I—” he looks round the room. “Better not. I have some matters to attend to. Enjoy your evening.”
*
“I wish you could’ve stayed for Kadis-kot, Chris. This is a great crew.” You’re in your pyjamas, sitting together on the sofa in his quarters. You lean against him, your head on his shoulder, as he finishes up a bit of work on his PADD.
“Yeah, they are. I’m happy you had fun.” He sets the PADD down and twists, putting his arms around you and pulling your close.
“I... had a strange experience today. Do you remember I told you about Vina? I met her right before you came aboard at the Vega colony.”
“I remember... and the aliens who got into your mind. That was Talos IV, wasn’t it? Where we got Spock? You said you wished you hadn’t left her behind in that dream world.”
“I saw her, today. The Talosians used their projection to let me know to come and get Spock and Burnham, and to trick Section 31 into thinking they had them. She said they had made an illusion of me, for her. But I was thinking... I’m a different person to who I was when I met her. Thanks to you. Things haven’t been easy, for any of us, with missing the war, and all that meant, but...” he squeezes you, and you relax against his strong body. “I love you. I’m grateful for you every day.”
*
You share one glance with Admiral Cornwell, and you don’t know her well, but her raised brow and tilted head is enough to show you that she knows about the bet too. You know Chris has been keeping Number One updated with your progress, but you’re impressed that she would have thought of warning the admiral. Chris might have gotten away with telling her about the bet, but you’re pretty sure he wouldn’t have had time when she came aboard and now with everything that’s happened with the section 31 base and losing Commander Airiam, it wouldn’t be appropriate.
Either way, you hustle to a science lab to prepare some data on wormholes for Saru. You aren’t entirely convinced by this plan to risk Burnham’s life to capture the Red Angel, but you do know that once Spock has decided on a logical course, it’s almost impossible to dissuade him from it.
*
The one non-Discovery person you’re pretty sure doesn’t know you or know that you’re the captain’s wife is Captain Philippa Georgiou. And although Chris mentioned her when she was wrongly reported as dead, he only knew her in passing. Hadn’t met her for years. You saw her in the distance once you think, at a conference, but there’s no way she’d remember you from all the other science officers that were there.
So it’s a surprise when she looks you up and down, and laughs. “It figures you would be here as well. The universe really likes its parallels.”
“Captain?” You say, confused. “I don’t think we’ve met...”
“I’m sorry Lieutenant. You just remind me of someone I used to know.” Her expression goes shrewd. “She could hide her feelings. And she was protective, too. She—” Georgiou stops, and smiles, but it’s a sharp expression, only a tiny trace of warmth there. “But never mind. She’s a long way away now.”
You puzzle over that interaction for a while, but you don’t figure it out.
*
“I’m going down to Boreth. To the monastery, to retrieve a time crystal. I thought I’d better come and let you know.” Part of you pays attention to his unspoken, “before I risk my life yet again”. But for once the physicist wins out over the wife, and you feel your excitement growing.
“A time crystal? So we can send the sphere data to the future still? Let me come with you. I can help you pick; I can analyse—”
“Woah there. This isn’t a physics thing. This is a sacred thing, for the Klingons, at any rate.”
You exhale, trying to put your thoughts in order.
“That may be the case, but you can’t deny that it is scientific too. Time is a fundamental concept of physics, after all. I’m the most qualified. Even more so than Burnham, Spock, or Stamets. And... Surely Chancellor L’Rell can’t object to you bringing your wife with you? A lot of cultures view marriage as a sacred bond.”
*
Chris spoke to the Chancellor again, privately. Tenavik, the monk, took some convincing. But in the end you took hold of the crystal together, and—
Chris said, afterwards, that L’Rell and Tyler had asked what had happened, and he hadn’t been able to tell them. And you never spoke of it, apart from to Chris. What you had seen – the future you had chosen in exchange for the crystal – you know there is pain in it. And you shed tears when you finally have a chance to speak about it, in the privacy of your quarters back on the Enterprise. But you take comfort, eventually, from knowing you’ll go through it together.
*
The news that Discovery is going to be destroyed is a shock. She’s a good ship, and, you think as you spend five minutes gathering up the few things you brought with you from your quarters, you’re going to miss her. You wonder if some of the crew can make permanent moves to the Enterprise when all this is over.
Unlike you, Chris does not travel light. You understand – it’s important for him to have a working environment that’s comfortable for him to spend time in, and welcoming so that the crew feel like they can pull up a chair and get their problems off their chests. Thing is in a situation like this, you know that not all his stuff will make it back. He is packing up his quarters, so you go to the ready room. As you thought, everything is still there. You eye the furniture. Most of that is replaceable, and the decorations... you can probably pack a couple of the pots, at least, and his sculpture. But the lightning table. That’s a memory from his childhood, and you don’t want him to lose it. You can’t carry it, but you could use Enterprise’s cargo transporter, and unlike the pots it’s probably sturdy enough to survive in the cargo bay for a day or two.
You press a control on the desk. “Discovery to Crewman Carmichael.”
“Carmichael here,” comes her voice, sounding a little harried.
“Listen, it’s me. Can you do me a huge favour? I’ll owe you. I need you to beam the captain’s desk over.”
“Oh, Um. Of course. If it’s for Captain Pike. Are you there with it now?”
“Yes. I’ve put my communicator on it. Just lock on to that signal.”
You watch as the table dematerialises.
“I’ve got it.”
“Thank you,” you say, fervent. “I’ll see you soon. Discovery out.”
“Lieutenant?” You turn, startled. You hadn’t noticed the door open. Saru is standing there, head tilted to one side.
“Commander, I—I just wanted to take care of some things for the Captain. I—um... thought he would be busy.”
Saru nods. “A good thought, Lieutenant. However you should go to the transfer corridor now. Quickly – there is little time remaining.”
You can’t get out the ready room fast enough.
*
Finally, you’re at the entrance to the transfer tunnel, from Discovery to Enterprise. You’ve never seen transfer tunnels deployed before outside a drill, and those don’t happen often.
“Lieutenant? Wait up.” You turn to see Ensign Tilly, carrying a duffel bag.
“Ensign, are you okay? Losing Discovery... this is your first ship, isn’t it?”
“Yes, it is... I—” she shakes her head. “I’m not thinking about it because I’ll cry. But I...” she smiles, but she has a slight look of trepidation.
“I have a confession to make, and it’s been killing me not to say anything because I hate keeping secrets but we’re technically not on Discovery anymore, so...” she takes a breath. “I—I know you are the captain’s wife. I’ve known this whole time.”
You blink, momentarily floored. “You what—? You—you knew? The whole time? How?”
“When Captain Pike took command of Discovery, when we were transferring the command codes over, I accidentally accessed his records. I was flustered already because he’s him, you know? The most decorated captain in the fleet? And he’d pretended I hurt him and uh. Yeah. His service record ended up on the main view screen, but his personal file was on my console and... I saw your name.”
She sighs. “I was mortified, and I reached out to Number One before the Enterprise was towed. But she thought it was hilarious and told me not to worry, that I needn’t say anything to him, that the captain would probably like to keep his personal life… personal. And then she got your temporary transfer orders from Admiral Cornwell, and...” she waves a hand.
“Who else knew?”
“A lot of us? Number One told Saru, and I had already told Michael and my close friends, so most of the senior staff, at least, but... but it’s not what you think.” She frowns. “I mean it is partly what you think. She did say she’d get the whole crew shore leave on Risa if we didn’t give it away. And you were good, too, apart from nearly choking and trying to hide in that restaurant on the Starbase; we couldn’t believe you didn’t know we’d seen you, that you waited until we left, but um...” she stops in the middle of the transfer corridor to look at you, before realising where she is and starting to walk again. “She said when you joined the Enterprise, you weren’t married to the captain. So the crew there know you as you. But here? She didn’t want you to be isolated, as the Captain’s Wife, not a person in your own right. People can be weird about captains, with the authority. I’m going to be a captain some day; I know it can be isolating. But you didn’t sign up for that. So we wanted you to feel like you were among friends. Family.”
Despite where you are, and the awkwardness of dealing with bags, you stop and give Ensign Tilly a quick hug.
*
You report to Engineering after you’ve dropped your stuff off in your quarters, and you spend the battle with control with Louvier and his team, trying to keep the ship moving. After it’s all over you pick up a dermal regenerator from sickbay and treat the burns you got from an exploding power relay yourself, while being there for your husband.
*
“You’re a Captain, Chris. You’d know better than me – what’s the fanciest restaurant in San Francisco? The one you’d take off-world dignitaries to? I owe Number One dinner.”
Chris looks dashing in his tuxedo, beautifully fitted, and finished off with a bow tie. Una looks stunning in a deep red off the shoulder cocktail dress. And you could tell by the look on Chris’s face and the kiss he gave you when you showed him your dress that you look pretty good too.
Dinner was exquisite – a tasting menu of dishes from across the Federation, paired with locally produced wines from California, and the three of you sit, relaxed, with your glasses.
“So are either of you going to tell me what was behind this dinner? You can’t be buttering me up to get me to serve as your first officer because I already do.”
“Well I don’t really know why we’re here.” Chris smiles at you, fond. “Though I’m glad we are.”
You take a breath. “Actually, Una, I wanted to say thank you. For that bet, on Discovery. It seems pretty moot, now, but... I appreciate what you did for me, to make my tour on the ship that much easier. So that things weren’t weird with the crew.”
Chris looks at you, puzzled. “Ensign Tilly knew we were married all along, Chris. She said she saw it on your personnel record the first day you got there. But when I transferred, Una here told her and the rest of the crew about the bet, and challenged them not to let us know.”
“Ensign Tilly.” He shakes his head, turning to Number One, who is smiling, looking completely unabashed. “So you were playing both sides against each other all along.” He looks at her, almost respectful, before turning back to you. “And you didn’t say anything, let me come out here… Talk about blindsided—” he tips his head back, roaring with the first genuine laughter you’ve seen in a while and you catch it too, laughing until your face is sore.
“What—what was in it for them?” He asks, finally beginning to recover himself.
“I said I’d get them shore leave on Risa. I would’ve, too,” she adds, at his quizzical expression. “Admiral Mwangi,” she says, wiping her eyes. That clearly means something to Chris because he nods.
“So... it was a bottle of Bowmore, wasn’t it? Although I’m not sure we could have ever won it fairly...”
“I think you won it,” Una says, tone magnanimous. “Especially after this dinner. Just—”
“I know. The first drink is to the Discovery.”

Endnotes: Class J Starships and Delta radiation are no longer a thing. Something else happens instead. I will not elaborate.
Your mirror self is also a Lieutenant on the Enterprise. Although Mirror!Pike is a very capable Captain, who has the respect of his crew, every now and then you might need to... sort out... a threat. Before it becomes more serious. That's how your mirror self looks after her husband.

Smile - Sylvia Tilly
One word request: Sylvia Tilly - Smile A/N: I stole a line from Chris Pine ha. Thanks for requesting, enjoy reading!! :)
Life in space could be troublesome. Though each and every crew member was grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of the special journey, many longed to go home every now and then.
Everyone misses different things, but they’re mostly small, simple things. Like someone’s favourite restaurant. Walking on grass with bare feet. Going for walks outside. The comfort of their own house.
Weirdly, most people you spoke to missed gravity. Just earth’s gravity. One of the crew members you spoke a few days ago said it perfectly. They said it can be a challenge to feel grounded when even gravity is artificial.
You’re officially a nurse on Discovery. But ever since Captain Pike found out you used to be a counselor on earth, he makes sure you check in with the crew’s mental health. Most crew members like talking to you. And they open up pretty easily.
You spend most of your “counselor hours” with Tilly. She gets stressed out very easily, and you’re one of the few people who can calm her when she’s having a panic attack or even prevent one.
Right now you’re on her way to her and Burnham’s quarters. She asked you to come over, said she needed some time with you. It’s been a long day, and you’re happy to spend time with Tilly. Despite spending a lot of time with her because you’re the ship’s counselor, you’re also her girlfriend.
Once you arrive, Tilly opens the door almost immediately. She looks tired but smiles when she sees you. She steps aside so you can enter her quarters.  ‘I’ve got freshly made tea, would you like a cup?’ she says and you nod.
‘You look tired. Want to talk about your day?’ you say and Tilly chuckles. ‘No thanks counselor Y/L/N, I would like to spend some time with Y/N.’ she says. She hands you a cup of tea and the two of you sit down on her bed.
‘How was your day?’ she asks you and you sigh. ‘Long. Exhausting. Busy.’ you say. ‘Poor you.’ says Tilly. ‘It’s okay now that I’m with you. Missed your smile.’ you say. Those words make Tilly smile widely.  ‘There it is.’ you say. ‘Just what I needed.’
A/N: I hope you like it!! My ship and one word requests are currently closed. Stay tuned to find out when they’re open! Check my post about it for more information.

Request: Falling in Love with Michael Burnham
Tumblr media
@cassandranoir said: I’ve been looking for trekkie imagines/ff and I’ve found you! Would you be able to write and Michael Burnham x female!reader in which they work together maybe in the lab under Stamets or under Lorca and they fall in love??
ALL REQUESTS (INCLUDING DISCOVERY) ARE OPEN!
“I don’t know about you, but I think it was cute,” you commented to Michael as you pulled up a diagram of the recently released tardigrade.
“Cute?” Michael said, walking over to your station in Engineering. “I don’t see it.”
You rolled your eyes, entering a few calculations into the computer. “Forget it.”
The two of you worked in a comfortable silence until Michael spoke up. “What are you working on?”
“Spore-drive efficiency,” you replied. “I want to see if Stamets doesn’t have to connect to the drive in order for it to work, if he can do it anywhere. In his quarters, on the bridge. The response time is a crucial element.”
Hearing his name, Stamets joined the two of you.
“Let me take a look, Ensign,” he said, scrolling through the lines of equations, before pausing and groaning.
“(Y/N), look here,” he pointed at a small string of numbers. “This is the kind of error that first year cadets make. If you weren’t so busy mooning over Burnham, you wouldn’t have made it in the first place!”
Your cheeks immediately flushed red, and you looked over at Michael, whose eyebrows were raised in a characteristically Vulcan manner.
“Sorry, Lieutenant,” you mumbled, wishing that you could hide inside one of the calculations, and stay there for the next decade.
Stamets waved his hand, and ambled off, leaving you and Michael standing next to each other like nervous teenagers. For once, the silence between you was awkward.
“Well,” Michael managed, “(Y/N), are you busy after your shift?”
You shook your head, noting that she was perspiring lightly.
“Do you want to get a drink in the mess hall?” Michael blurted out.
“Don’t we always do that?” you asked. “You, Tilly, and me?”
“Tilly told me she can’t make it today,” Michael explained quickly. “I just wanted to,”
“I get it,” you said. “Sure, I’d love to.”
Michael smiled, turning back to walk to her workstation. You couldn’t help noticing that every so often, Michael turned to look at you.

Pairing: Sylvia Tilly x Reader
A/N: First time writing Tilly I hope this is ok!
Request:  Hey, saw you were taking requests for disco characters, so I would like to ask for something fluffy between Tilly and a female reader? Maybe like they are both cadets and don't really know how to express their feelings for one another? - anon
______________________
PADDS were scattered across your bed, you were sat on the floor up against the wall while your good friend Tilly was sat on your bed.
The two of you had been studying for a test for hours. Trying to anticipate what was going to come up. You stood up and tossed the PADD onto your bed while you stretched your legs “I don’t think I’m ready at all.”
“C’mon Y/N I know you are.” she knelt on the bed and shook you by your shoulders “Believe in yourself”
You put your hands on her shoulders and shook her back “It’s hard.”
“We shall persevere!” she flopped back on the bed into her sitting position with a huge contagious smile on her face and you sat next to her.
“Tilly, I just wanted to say thank you for helping me study.”
“Don’t sweat it. That’s what friends do right?”
“You never cease to motivate me. I really appreciate it” you hesitated on your next words for a second “I really appreciate you.” Appreciating her was an understatement, you’d do anything for the woman and even that was an understatement. But when it came to expressing those feelings? You were awkward and didn’t know how to approach the topic.
“I really appreciate you too. Now come on we need to get back to work.”
Tilly pat the space right next to her and you obliged. That was your position for the next couple of hours, right next to Tilly, leaning into her slightly so you could see the PADD on her lap while she talked you through notes.
The night drew in and you could feel sleepiness attempting to take over Tilly noticed this “I think it might be time to wrap this up.”
“I’m sorry. I should have gone to bed earlier last night.”
“Don’t be silly.” Tilly slid off of your bed and helped you tidy everything up.
“Alright. I’ll head out.” she hovered by the door before walking back to you. “If I don’t say this now I don’t think I ever will have the courage and it needs to come out. I really enjoy spending time with you, and I’d spend every moment with you if I could. What I’m trying to say is- I really don’t know how to say it. Well I know how to say it but-”
“I think I know what you mean and I feel the exact same way. I’d do anything for you Till.”
Her contagious smile spread across her face again and she rushed forward and hugged you before quickly pulling away and heading back for the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Where’s an All-Night Pharmacy When You Need It - Part 18
Read on AO3 or FFN
Rating: Teen
Pairings: Pike & Child!OC (Noah), Pike x Reader
Word Count: 1.3k
Chapter Summary: McCoy joins Enterprise as CMO, Tilly offers to babysit Noah.
Story Summary: Chris’ adventures in fatherhood.
Excerpt: “That concludes my briefing sir,” Sylvia Tilly, lieutenant (junior grade), says while standing at attention, hands clasped behind her back.
“These modifications will improve Discovery’s spore drive efficiency and range by twelve percent?” Pike queries.
“Yes, or more. There is only so much we can simulate in the lab.”
“Very well, your plan is approved. Report to the Neptune shipyards in the morning. I’ll prioritize Discovery’s work to the head of their docket. I need you back on patrol ASAP.”
“Yes sir.”
“And Tilly, well done on the lieutenant’s pips. Saru said you are ready, and I agree.”
She beamed. “Oh, thank you sir!”
Noah chooses this moment to escape from his table and homework. He skips to his father’s desk and starts, “I waited as long as I could …”

Mom-Friend Looking For A Dad-Friend - Part 1
Summary: Saru x chubby!reader in which you are Sylvia Tilly’s older sister, (Y/N) Tilly. You are a therapist on the USS Discovery and the ship’s resident mom-friend. Your little sister thinks it’s about time her Starfleet parents finally hooked up. (Title is based off of my Hinge profile)
(Y/N)’s POV
You were settling into your office on the USS Discovery, situated just down the hall from the med bay. It was small but cozy and would only get cozier once you unpacked your plants and little trinkets from home. Once the doors were closed behind you, you set your box of mementos down and took a moment to take in the room. Making sure that the doors are closed, you take a moment to squeal and pump your fists in the air. It’s quite unprofessional for a lieutenant commander, but you’ve never had a whole office to yourself before.
Apparently the ship’s former captain, Gabriel Lorca, never felt the need for counselors or therapists, which you thought was horrible and inconsiderate. But when your own captain, Captain Pike, announced that he was transferring temporarily to head the Discovery, he had requested you accompany him to be the ship’s temporary counselor. He didn’t go into much detail for “security reasons,” but he felt that the crew would benefit from your services and your motherly nature.
It also helped that your baby sister was an ensign on the ship.
Your little celebratory moment was ruined by the sound of your doors opening. You froze, imagining the captain or some high-ranking commander walking in on your moment of unprofessionalism. Honestly, this was not a reflection of your normally responsible self and as you turned slowly around, you were running through in your mind exactly how you would defend yourself. Until you saw the familiar red and wild hair of your sister.
You run forward and envelop her in a hug, relishing the feel of a familiar body pressed against yours. You have been so worried for her while you were away on the Enterprise and she was off fighting a war. Not a day went by that you didn’t dread the idea of getting the message from your mother that she was gone. But now she’s here, safe and sound in your arms where you can protect her, like you always have. You were so wrapped up in fussing over your sister that you didn’t even notice the incredibly tall man watching you both fondly from the doorway until he cleared his throat.
“Oh! Oh right.” Sylvia steps to the side with her arm stretched, literally presenting the tallest and... cutest man you had ever seen. Immediately you were entranced by the ridges of his face and his eyes. Oh dear Lord those eyes.
“Commander, this is my sister, (Y/N). (Y/N), this is Commander Saru. He was my sponsor to the command program and was--”
“Previously acting Captain, yes. Captain Pike filled me in.” You step forward and extend your hand to him. You try really, really hard not to shiver when his fingers engulf your palm and hold it securely. You feel so small in front of him -- which is rare for you, your past boyfriends made it a point to constantly bring up your largeness -- but your hand fits perfectly in his like two puzzle pieces finding each other. It’s as thrilling as it is frightening.
“I’m Doctor (Y/N) Tilly. It’s very nice to meet you, Commander.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you, as well, Doctor.” Oh he was such a gentleman.
Saru’s POV
Saru was expecting another Sylvia Tilly, when said ensign insisted that he come meet her sister. And because he was so fond of the tenacious girl, he allowed her to all but pull him through the halls towards an office just off of the med bay.
“I just have a feeling that you two will really like each other,” she was telling him as they approached the doors. “She’s so kind and sweet. She was basically the mom I always wanted which was nice considering the mom we did have was--” As she rambled, Saru just nodded his head and mentally prepared himself to engage in some pleasantries and then a quick return to the bridge for a meeting with Captain Pike. He was honestly in a somewhat sour mood after having the captaincy stolen from him, even if he knew it was going to be temporary anyway. Hey, a Kelpien can dream.
What he was not expecting was the sight of quite literally the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. But there she was, hugging her sister tightly and soundly in a very cramped office filled with boxes of plants and flowers. And when you took his hand and grinned up at him, he felt his heart soar and a tingling in his limbic system. He could stand in the glow of your smile for hours and so desperately wanted to know what a hug from you felt like. Probably like being home. He had to restrain his arm from reaching out for you after you had pulled away from the handshake. He was completely and utterly hooked on you.
Sylvia seemed to notice, because she shot him a devious grin at the sight of what he was now realizing was his own love sick smile. Really, you have to be more professional, he scolded. But you’re chatting happily away with your sister while unloading your plants, cradling each adorable pot like a mother carries her child. Alright, professionalism be damned, he knew he needed to be next to you every moment for the rest of your lives.
On Kaminar, Kelpien life expectancies were uncertain but undeniably short, which meant that when decisions about family, friends, children had to be instinctual. And while Saru knew that he was safe from that life, that he was far more secure than anyone from back home could have ever hoped for, he still felt those same instincts. He felt them for Michael and Captain Georgiou and Sylvia and now here you were, the sight of you creating a piercing, knowing feeling deep in his gut.
You struggled to hang one of your plants on the highest shelf behind your desk. Just as you were about to pull out your spinny chair and use it as a stool, Saru quickly made his way over so he could hover over you.
“May I?” He was genuinely nervous that you would say no and he’s not quite sure why. But this was important, this offering of help and for care. You gave him a toothy grin and carefully transferred the plant from your hands into his large, awaiting ones.
“Thank you, Commander. This is my String of Hearts and she likes to be up high.” Saru didn’t bat an eye at the fondness you held for the plant, rather he was quite familiar with the love you felt for them.
“It’s really no trouble. I too have quite the collection back in my quarters.”
“Really?”
“Yes, they are mostly plants from my home world, although I have collected quite a few species from visits to other planets.”
“Maybe you could show my sister some time, Commander!” Sylvia’s voice, really it’s more like a yelp, interrupts you both. You were eyeing her strangely while Saru tried his best to signal her with his widened eyes, stop, please with a hint of what are you planning. Sylvia just grinned widely and devilishly at them both.
“If, um, you don’t mind Commander, I would be happy to have lunch with you sometime to discuss our plant babies,” you offered slowly, your voice soft and hopeful. Oh, oh, he definitely wanted to have lunch with you. Was today too soon? Probably. Okay, calm down Saru, she’s not going to disappear.
Third Person POV
Four Months Later
Sylvia was just absolutely ecstatic that her plan was working. When she had started getting closer to Saru during the way, started seeing his paternal nature and his unmeasured empathy towards others, her mind had immediately thought of her darling sister. How you were just as nurturing as him and cared about everyone, how you were so caught up with loving others that you very rarely had time to meet anyone who loved you just as deeply. How the only two boyfriends you had ever had were complete assholes who took your tenderness for granted and only gave you criticism for return. How you were so hesitant to fall in love again and how she was absolutely sure that Saru was made for you and vice versa. So as soon as you stepped onto the ship, Sylvia begged and bothered Saru to come welcome you until he finally agreed. And oh is he glad he agreed.
From that day on you and Saru became practically inseparable. Saru made it his mission to be near you every second possible and you found yourself quite taken with the impossibly sweet man. Which was unusual, you had built this thick wall around your heart after your last relationship ended. But Saru just wormed his way past your guard with his gentle smiles and thoughtfulness. You would spend every meal together, talking about your plants, your favorite books and music. He had even started teaching you some basics in some of the many languages he knew. You don’t know why, but knowing about his profound knowledge of languages made you fall even harder for him.
Everyone on the ship seemed to realize that you were made for each other, too. There were bets made about when you would get together, whispers about ships through the halls. The drama over when Discovery’s mom-friend and dad-friend would make it official was a welcomed respite from the stresses of their mission to find the Red Angel.
But the turning point for you was one night when you were completely swamped with patient notes and analysis. You had just messaged Saru letting him know that you had to skip your dinner plans to finish your work. You were quite disappointed, you hadn’t missed a dinner with him in the four months of your friendship and you lived for your conversations with him. It was just so comfortable and he made you feel so heard. But tonight you were looking at a sad, late night meal in your quarters after you were exhausted from staring at PADDs all day. At least, you thought so, until your door opened mere minutes after you had messaged Saru. In walked this precious man, carrying your favorite soup and a cup of coffee on a tray, along with some tea and salad for himself.
“Just because we can’t have dinner in the cafeteria, doesn’t mean we can’t have dinner together.” He gave you a shy look as he set the tray down in front of you and took a seat on the other side of your desk. Honestly your heart felt like it was about to burst from your chest. He was a dream, a lovely and beautiful dream.
“Saru I... Thank you.” You set your PADD down and decided that maybe a short break couldn’t hurt.
“You are most welcome, (Y/N). I couldn’t bear the thought of you not eating a proper meal.”
“Is this potato leak soup?” Saru nodded, pleased with himself.
The two of you ate silently for a while as you continued your work. Saru was quite content in watching you. It was quiet moments like this where he would take in everything he loved about you besides your mind and wit. The soft curl of your hair, the way your eyebrows creased as you read, or the bright (e/c) of your eyes. His eyes very slowly trail down, when you aren’t flashing the occasional smile at him, to take in his other favorite part about you. Saru -- and he gets incredibly embarrassed when he thinks of you like this because he is a gentleman through and through -- just really loves your body. In a totally not creepy way, he is obsessed with how small and soft you are compared to him. He still has dreams about the first time you hugged him and the feeling of his arms around your plush waist holding you close.
“All done,” you announce with a sigh. Saru snaps his eyes from where they were lingering on your collar bone back up to you. He throws on his most innocent smile, trying to pretend he wasn’t just fantasizing about wrapping his body around your own.
“Thank you again. I’m sure this is not how you wanted to spend your evening, sitting in silence while I just work away.”
“Nonesense.” He pauses, debating his next words. “Any time spent with you is time well spent.”
You bite your tongue for a moment, wondering if you should let slip the words you so desperately wanted to bestow upon him. Would he think you’re being too forward? Would he think you were flirting with him? I mean, you did want to flirt with him, and hug him and kiss him and rub your hands down his-- woah, calm down, (Y/N), he’s right there.
“Still,” you start, deciding to take a big risk. “It was incredibly sweet of you. I’ve never had anyone bring me dinner before.” Saru beams and fills his heart swell at the praise, but his joy stalls at that one offhand comment.
“Never?” Honestly, he was curious. You had never mentioned past relationships before and he was secretly dying to know if he was even someone you would consider for a romantic relationship.
You take a deep breath, “I mean, I’ve only ever had two boyfriends in the past and neither were that... thoughtful. Well, at first they were. But over time they both ended up being a bit too self-centered, a bit too critical.”
Saru feels like his cup is about to break in his grip. How could anyone be so cruel to you, so unappreciative, so blind?
You bow your head, worried you might have divulged too much but Saru leans forward and takes one of your hands into his. His thumb rubs your knuckles and immediately your past relationships and the sad memories they dredge up vanish. As if there was no one before him, as if there was always just Saru.
“If you don’t mind me being so forward, it is their loss. (Y/N), you are a wonder, anyone who cannot see that or appreciate that is a fool and does not deserve you.” He’s staring at you incredibly intensely, his lovely eyes trying to convey all the adoration he feels for you, his desire to see you cared for as you deserve.
Your eyes shine and you don’t even think. You just stand and round your desk, engulfing Saru in a hug before he can rise to meet you or he can see the tears in your eyes. Your body folds perfectly into his as his arms wrap securely around your waist. In this position your heads are level, and he uses this opportunity to slightly nestle his head against your neck and shoulder. He hopes he’s being inconspicuous. He also hopes you’re getting the message, that he is absolutely smitten with you.
