"That's the Shittiest Pickup Line I've Ever Heard"
Sylvester Dodd x GN!reader
"Sly you got this-" Toby insisted as he whispered to an anxious Sylvester "Just like we practiced, play it cool then go in with the pickup line you were telling me about."
"Right-" Sylvester replied looking in your direction before awkwardly and robotically sauntering over to you, immediately stumbling to lean against the garage's brick exterior, a movement you could sense was Sylvester even without looking up from your phone. Glancing behind him for reassurance, and quickly being met with a smiling Toby gesturing for him to calm himself, he hesitantly opened his mouth.
"Can I help you Sly?" You interrupted, still not yet turning towards him.
"Uhm-" This was far from his seamless plan.
You met his widened gaze, being faced with a reddened, sweaty, mess of a man as you slightly gestured for him to talk but to no prevail.
"Your- uhm- Your name must be Wifi because I uh- I swear I'm feeling... a connection..."
You could hear the second hand embarrassment radiating off of Toby as he rested his head against the brick. Sylvester however was far worse, sweat was piling uncomfortably making it near impossible for him to stay still and seem composed, not to mention the dead silence he was met with, truly his worst nightmare.
"I- what?" You laughed after a prolonged pause. "Did Toby tell you to say that?"
"Uhm- kind of." He responded as he joined in with your laughing fit.
"That's the shittiest pickup line I've ever heard!"

Truth, Dare, or Statistics
Sylvester Dodd x Reader
Warnings: fluff, female reader, bit of self-deprecating talk, Paige outs your crush on Sly
"You should just tell him." Paige's voice startled me out my trance. I shook my head and turned to look at her.
"What?"
She sighed. "You need to tell Sylvester. It would make you feel better."
"Oh no. No, no, no. I cannot tell him! He is a certified genius and I'm just a nobody. Seriously, I don't even know why you guys let me hang around," I said.
Paige sat next to me at the table, laying a hand on my arm. "You are not a nobody. Everyone loves having you around. You are smarter than you think and you help everyone here."
I laid my head on her shoulder, resting my hand on hers. "Thanks Paige. But still, Sly could do so much better than me."
"He really couldn't. He loves you."
I shot straight up and stared at her. "Nu uh. You are kidding me."
Paige smiled. "You're just too busy denying everything to see it. But I see they way he looks at you when you're not paying attention. You're the moon to him."
My face scrunched in confusion. "Isn't it normally 'you're the sun'?"
"How do you look at the sun?" Paige countered.
"I don't. It hurts."
"And how do you look at the moon?"
I sighed, seeing her point. "Like it's the most beautiful thing in existence. But come on, Paige."
Paige shook her head. "Don't you dare. I may not be a certified genius but I can tell when someone's in love."
I shrugged.
Paige patted my shoulder. "You'll see." She ignored my gaze as she stood from the table and walked off. She walked over to the staircase and called up to our friends.
"Guys, break time! Get down here!"
She had a smile on her face as she walked back over to me and pulled me to the couch.
Surprisingly, our friends had listened to her and came downstairs.
"What's going on, Paige?" Walter asked, taking a seat next to his girlfriend.
Paige pulled out her phone and began typing. "You guys have been up there for hours so it's time for a break. I ordering pizza and we're gonna play a game."
"Ooh, what kind of game?" Toby asked.
Paige finished ordering and put her phone away. "We're gonna play Truth, Dare or Statistics."
"What's that?" Happy asked, grabbing a chair from the table.
"It's like basic truth or dare but you have the option to ask for a statistical question. So if it was my turn and I asked (Y/N) "truth, dare or statistic" and she chose statistic, I would ask a statistical question such as "how many women have green eyes". She would give me an answer and if she was correct, it'd be her turn to ask somebody else but if she gets it wrong then I get to make her do whatever I want." Paige explained.
"I like this game!" Toby exclaimed, sitting by Happy.
"I take it I'm in charge of deciding if a statistics answered correctly?" Sylvester asked. He grabbed a chair and moved to sit by me so we were all sitting in a circle.
"Yup. Ready to play?"
The group agreed and the game began. Toby managed to dare Happy to let Paige dress her in one of her outfits and Walter got asked who he was secretly jealous of. (He tried to get out of it but said it was Sly.)
The pizza came after a couple of rounds and we chowed down as we continued on with the game.
We were dying of laughter as Sylvester got dared to sing the National Anthem in falsetto. Finally Paige turned to me.
"Truth, dare, or statistic, (Y/N)?"
"Statistic. Let's see if my random ability to guess numbers works on this."
"What is the likelihood that Sylvester has a crush on you?"
Everything went quiet. I felt frozen as Paige's question processed in my head. I couldn't look at anybody else but Paige, too scared to see what their reaction would be.
"0%. We've talked about this Paige," I answered quietly.
"But you're wrong! Please, I just want to see my best friends happy!" Paige pleaded.
I shook my head and stood up. "Thanks for trying, Paige. I'll see you later."
I started walking away when Sylvester called out. "Paige is right! Don't you want to hear the correct answer?"
I stopped walking and wiped the tears from my eyes. "Sure," I said turning around, faking a smile.
Sly took a deep breath, fiddling with his fingers. "The likelihood that I have a crush on you is not 0%. It's 100%. I've just been too scared to say anything because I thought you could do better."
"Sly, no one could be better than you. You're a literal genius and so so kind to everyone. What's not to love about you?" I walked over to where Sylvester was standing, fighting the nerves.
Sly smiled and took my hand. "So what do you say? Will you let me take you on a date?"
I smiled back and nodded.
"Finally!" Toby yelled.
I jumped and turned to face my friends that I forgot were still here. "What?"
"We've been waiting forever for you two to finally confess." Happy explained.
"The fact that you couldn't see the pining happening was excruciating! I was dying to force you two into a closet till you guys kissed but Paige said no." Toby added.
"Which is why I'm confused you practically forced them to say something now." Walter pitched in.
Paige grimaced. "I know. I didn't want to force you guys to do anything but I didn't want to see you in pain coming up with different scenarios where Sly rejected you, (Y/N). The guys needed a break from their work so they wouldn't get burned out and I saw an opportunity."
I glared at Paige before smiling gently. "Well, thank you I guess. I probably wouldn't have done anything if you hadn't intervened."
Sylvester squeezed my hand and smiled. "At least we know now. No sense worrying about what might have been."
I nodded and leaned against him. "I think we've had enough of a break. Sly, wanna show me what you've been working on?"
Sly nodded and began talking about his project as we made our way upstairs. I looked back over my shoulder and smiled at Paige, giving her a silent thank you.
She smiled back and nodded.

The series has not necessarily aged well, but The Big Bang Theory is still wildly popular. The sitcom wrapped up in 2019 with a well-received series finale that saw Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) receive their Nobel Prize and ended with everyone being sent off with a promising, happy future (although even the elevator got an arguably better ending than Kunal Nayyar's Raj). But what if the series went off in a different direction with an earlier storyline, specifically Season 10's "The Military Miniaturization"?
That's the episode where Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Howard (Simon Helberg), and Sheldon begin working with the Air Force on their gyroscope. If the series had used that narrative through to the finale, it's possible their work would have led to them working with other government agencies, perhaps even situations that threaten the world as we know it. It's a "what if" scenario that is actually played out, albeit in a more dramatic fashion, on another CBS series: Scorpion.
Four Nerds Save the World Weekly in 'Scorpion'
youtube
Scorpion sees a team of eccentric geniuses working together to solve complex, high-technology global threats at the behest of the Department of Homeland Security. The series is loosely based on the exploits of its executive producer, computer expert and businessman Walter O'Brien, an Irishman who first drew the attention of the U.S. as a 13-year-old who hacked into NASA and was given an Extraordinary Abilities visa to work with Homeland Security in the States. As noted in the cited Irish Times, those exploits "can't be talked about" and, as a result, can't be substantiated (but still makes for pretty damn good TV).
Elyes Gabel plays the fictionalized O'Brien on Scorpion, a computer genius with an IQ of 197. The superteam of geniuses he gathers together consists of Harvard-trained psychiatrist Tobias (Eddie Kaye Thomas), mechanical engineer Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong), "human calculator" Sylvester "Sly" Dodd (Ari Stidham), a mathematician and statistician. Their Homeland Security liaison is Agent Cabe Gallo (Robert Patrick), a former Marine and FBI agent who had first contacted the team to help with a problem that was impacting air traffic control before leaning on them for missions that the government has neither the personnel nor technical know-how to handle on their own. Rounding out the team is American Idol alum Katharine McPhee, who serves as the team's office manager/mother figure and is helped, in turn, by the team in learning to understand her genius son, Ralph (Riley B. Smith).
The Parallels Between 'Scorpion' and 'The Big Bang Theory' are Stronger Than You Think
Scorpion sees the team tackle situations in episodes that range from humorous, like going undercover on the set of a superhero movie, dressed in garish superhero costumes, to dismantle a nuclear missile in "Super Fun Guys," to much more serious fare, like Season 1's second episode "Single Point of Failure," where the team is called on to help the governor's daughter, a victim of biohacking with only 24 hours to live. That episode also reveals some deeply personal trials for two of its characters: Walter learns his sister's multiple sclerosis is worsening, making their current case hit that much harder. Meanwhile, the case also forces Cabe to revisit the tragedy of losing his daughter. That balance of episodes, skewed between light and dark, is a winning formula that kept the series on for four seasons before being canceled.
It may not sound like Scorpion has all that much in common with The Big Bang Theory, but the parallels are much stronger than suggested above. The characters on each show, for instance, are eerily similar. Like Sheldon, Walter is incredibly book smart but lacks emotional intelligence, leading to being perceived as selfish, arrogant, and devoid of feelings. Sly is also much like Sheldon, an obsessive-compulsive with phobias (unknown if birds are one, but most likely). Psychiatrist Toby serves as a behaviorist, "reading" people like Amy and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) have been known to do, while Happy and Howard are both engineers... enough said. Paige is akin to Kaley Cuoco's Penny, the friend who may not be an intellectual genius but has the social skills and emotional know-how to help "translate" the real world for her socially awkward teammates (another parallel: Paige enrolls in college and takes night classes to earn a degree). Plus, Walter and Paige have that same "will they/won't they" dynamic shared by Leonard and Penny.
One final thought. In "True Colors," the Scorpion team is forced to take (and pass) a psychological evaluation, or else they will be banned from all Homeland assignments. By passing the evaluation, the team, amusingly, can safely say they're not crazy. They were tested.

Sly being Happy aka Not-Happy
Scorpion 4x14 Lighthouse of the Rising Sun
The whole team has learned a few things from Happy (picking locks, starting cars: see 301, 316), and they can take over her tasks, but they’ll never be as good as Happy Freakin’ Quinn, the world’s best mechanic (in the Scorpion Universe). She makes it look so easy.
This was one of the endless scenes in the episode where I loved Sly.

the fact we continue to see Sylvester wearing his wedding band, despite the time frame etc, is honestly my favourite thing? he obviously took the time to preserve it so it would have no problem lasting on his finger longer than the average bandaid. plus the possible event of festering germs it could attract and yet you see it clear as day in every episode, even on the island, and it just makes me smile so much.

I know it's not funny. Sly might die. But the position he was in made this all a bit more relatable.

Am I the only one who's tired of the "Sly is afraid of everything but gets over his fears and does the job so therefore he is brave and interesting" bullshit? There's no actual character development for him. He's just there. Season 4 was setting up some internal conflict for him, but it got canceled. So i decided to write a list of all the internal conflict for the characters.
Sylvester Dodd
His desire is to be seen as a strong, brave man, and have people take him seriously. We see that desire when he sees his own obituary, and how brief it was. In the S3 finale, we see him writing an account of what happened on the island, and uploading it online, only to find out in the S4 finale that he's been writing and uploading false accounts of the Scorpion cases for years where he does the things Walter does. He is doing everything from Alderman to Lawyer, winning gaming tournaments and becoming chess grandmaster in his youth, and risking his life at Scorpion so that he would be seen that way, and be able to see himself that way.
His fear is of living in shame. We find out how that fear sparked in S1E10 "Talismans" when he tells Megan that his parents were frustrated by the way he was, so they sent him off to his aunt's house. His father was out on missions because he didn't want to be around him. He was constantly humiliated throughout school as a child, and he has had a lot of shameful moments in the show. From S2E19 "Ticker" where he drops the bowl because of a monkey and almost messes up the mission, to S3E14 "Sharknerdo" with the pictues of him in a wizard costume reaching Denmark, to S3E19 "Monkey see, monkey poop" where he sits out on the mission due to his fear of monkeys, and has a psychosomatic reaction due to shame and guilt. In S3E17 "Dirt seeds done cheap", we see the worst fears of the team, Happy is being rejected, Cabe is weakness and Sly is just ... chickens? No, it's deeper than that. In his childhood, a bully locked him in a zoo cage with chickens while all his class laughed it him. It was the most shameful moment him his life. In that episode, he experiences that same situation, that same shamefulness. Sly's biggest fear is living in shame and people being ashamed of him and not taking him seriously. All his phobias keep people from taking him seriously like he wants, and puts him in shameful situations for his age and status. I hate the writers for not focusing on it.
Walter O'brien
His desire is to be loved for who he is. We see that when he dates Linda. Toby tells him about the damsel effect, and he says that she likes him for him, only to find out Toby was right. Then When Tim dates Paige, he tries to become normal so that Paige would want him. If he's not gonna be loved for who he is, then he would pretend to be someone else. Then in S4, we see him continuing to do that.
His fear is of that same love. Every single time he has ever connected with someone, it always ended in pain for him. From Cabe to Megan and his parents, and Linda and who knows how many other attempts. In the S3 finale when Paige asks Walter how he feels about their relationship, he says he feels sick to his stomache. He is hopeful, but terrified. In the S4 finale, they prove him right.
His second desire is to save as many lives as possible. He wants to make up for the lives that were lost in Baghdad when he was a child, and he's willing to do anything for it, even if it costs him his life.
His second fear is of people dying because of him like in Baghdad. Whenever that happens like in S2E6 "Tech, drugs, rock and roll" he goes suicidal to save the people in danger. It's honestly so impressive that a character that was treated like a joke for the better part of the show still managed to be interesting.
Happy Quinn
Her desire is to have a family and experience stability, security and happiness. She grew up moving from foster home to orphanage and back. When she marries Toby, she starts spending time with Walter, Paige and Ralph as a family instead of Toby because she longs for the childhood that she didn't have. Later she tries to have a baby with Toby before they decide to adopt.
Her fear is of being rejected and alone. Her own father left her at St.Luke's when she was 2. She was the odd one out in the orphanage and no one would adopt her, while all the other kids were adopted. When she grew up, she was constantly on the move because she couldn't provide a stable life for herself. Until Walter came and did just that for her.
Toby Curtis
His desire is to prove that he is worthwhile, and gain the approval of others. We see this desire in S1E4 "Shorthanded" when Toby almost messes up the mission because he wants Walter's approval. And he keeps seeking Walter's approval until S2E6 "Tech, drugs, rock and roll" when Walter drains the oxygen from the room Toby is in, he faints, and when he wakes up, he comes to believe that Walter truly doesn't care about him. He starts seeking Happy's approval along with her heart he's been already seeking. Until he marries her in S3, by which time he starts trying to grant all her wishes to prove his worthwhile.
His fear is of being worthless. We find out how that fear sparked in S1E10 "Talisman" when he tells Happy about his past. He had a clinically bipolar mother and his neglective and unloving dad struggled to manage her illness. He became a doctor to help them both and failed, resulting in his crippling guilt and self-worth issues. Those issues are beneath the surface, seen in his little interactions with Walter and Happy across the seasons. Especially in S4 when he finds out about his sperm conditions and those fears resurface again.
Paige Dineen
We really don't see much internal conflict with her aside from the fact that she fears abandonment because her mother and Drew abandoned her. Which is probably the reason her character is so uninteresting and one of the many reasons Waige falls short to Quintis.
Cabe Gallo
There are two main internal conflicts with him over the course of the show. Season one has his internal conflict over the secret of Baghdad and how Walter would react to it. Season 3 had internal conflict with him wanting to find love again, and his fear of weakness.
Ralph Dineen
He's just there.

And last one: Clary Fray, Eleanor Henstridge, Sylvester Dodd, Liv Moore and Will Gorski for 13! You'll have lots of work to finish these :p I hope you feel better soon! x
13. Rewatch my favourite movie/show with
Liv — depending on the brain, this one would be the most fun!
Sly — no one else on this list could geek out about tv with me more than him :)
Len — my princess ♥ she could use a good night off with some telly and no worries.
Clary — she is my favorite person on this list, but her plate is a little full atm. Maybe once her life settles down ;)
Will — if Clary’s life is hectic, Will’s takes the cake. Sorry, love, but maybe once y’all save the world?
give me 5 characters and a number, and I will put them in preference order for that situation
