An 80-year-old Ukrainian woman bakes Paska for her grandchildren.
Paska is traditional Ukrainian sweet Easter bread.
The tradition exists in many parts of Central Eastern Europe, but each type of bread is slightly different.

A colleague who recently retired recommended this Red Bean Bread (S$3.50) from Wataa Bakery. This halal-certified confectionery is a franchise brand of homegrown Swee Heng Bakery. This fluffy yellow bread has a spiral of sweetened red beans embedded in the dough and sesame seeds on the outside. The bread is good on its own if not a wee bit sweet due to the sweetened beans.

Sixx was a huge help! She decorated the gingerbread cookies, and then baked the Anise Italian Wedding (b&w) cookies while I showered. She forgot to roll them smooth before baking but like I told her, they’ll taste the same! And the ones there in the middle. Bought those. Dansk does a fine job with butter cookies, why reinvent the wheel?!
I’ll let the decorations on the Xmas Bread dry and then re-wrap them in clean wrap. Then they’re ready for delivery tomorrow!
All I have to do now is the Chocolate Trifle for Xmas Dessert.

these are called “iced buns” or “iced fingers” (sweet rolls that look a lot like hot dog buns with some jam/jelly schmeared on the bottom half, filled with chantilly cream, and topped with royal icing) and half of one of these beasties is perfect for tea time 🥮🫖

Castletown Cafe Special! Rayna's Lemon Blueberry Bread!
“Hi! Rayna here. I know this is something kinda different cuz this isn’t anything I or my friends or acquaintances encountered on our Dark World journeys, and it’s not anything you’ve seen around Hometown. I just wanted to share one of my own recipes, and Swatch gave me the go-ahead! Check out the recipe under the cut below!
“I kinda based this recipe off of the lemon bread my Granny would make, though I added my own twist with including blueberries and switching out the sour cream for butter and milk. Oh, and I added in an extra tablespoon of lemon juice.
“I think every family has their own collection of recipes, and we’re no different. My Granny taught my dad how to make lemon bread when he was a kid, and then she and Dad taught me when I was younger.
“Here we go! Lemon Blueberry Bread!
1 & ½ cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 tablespoon lemon zest
⅓ cup melted unsalted butter
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (thaw if frozen)
Glaze:
½ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, grease an (measurement) loaf pan
Set out cold ingredients so they reach room temperature. This allows the bread to bake faster. Cool ingredients chills the batter and makes it take longer to bake!
Place flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl and whisk together with a fork.
In another mixing bowl, whisk eggs and sugar. Stir in the lemon zest, melted butter, and vanilla. Then SLOWLY add the lemon juice while whisking to prevent any scrambled eggs.
Now that you’ve got your wet ingredients all stirred together, start adding the flour and milk. Alternate between the two and stir between each, kinda like a cake. Starting and ending with the flour.
Now fold in your blueberries!
Pour your batter into your pan and bake at 350 F for about 60 or 70 minutes. I check with a toothpick or wooden chopstick after an hour to see if it comes out clean. If not, give it another 10 minutes.”
Thank you, Rayna, for sharing this recipe!
