Do you have any information about the "Anti-Eurovision event broadcasted by Swedish TV (Channel 2) in 1975?
Eurovision Fact #119:
Tumblr media
In 1974, the Swedish government established a cultural policy which essentially stated that government funding should go towards non-commercialized arts. This was in direct conflict with the country agreeing to host the 1975 Song Contest after ABBA's win the year prior.
The Eurovision Song Contest is seen as a commercial event, produced more for the benefit of record companies than for actual cultural exchange. Thus, people thought that hosting the contest was in direct violation of the 1974 policy.
The Swedish progressive music movement was a huge opponent of the contest and carefully crafted and organized another music festival, the Alternative Festival, to coincide with that year's Eurovision.
The festival took place in both Stockholm and Uppsala, where Uppsala was a smaller version of the Gothenburg festival. The version of the Alternative Festival in Uppsala finished on the exact same day that the Eurovision Song Contest was held. Funnily enough, the Uppsalian festival ended with actually watching the Eurovision Song Contest on TV.
About 30 public institutions helped to fund the event, and 120,000 Swedish crowns were provided by The National Institute for Concerts to assist with production.
850 musicians from twenty different countries took part in the festival. Many different genres of music were showcased. One of the acts was composer and artist Ulf Dageby along side rock band Nynningen. They sang 'Doin’ the Omoralisk Schlagerfestival' (Doin’ the Immoral Schlager Festival). The song criticizes Eurovision, ABBA, and ABBA's manager Stig “Stikkan” Anderson.
The Stockholm festival is well documented. Recording of music played at the festival were published as double-sided LPs, many radio and television stations covered the event, and Tore Berger funded and produced an independent film, 'Vi Har Vår Egen Sång' (We Have Our Own Song), about the event which was shown all over the county. Channel 2 was not actively involved with Eurovision that year, so some coverage of the Alternative Festival was showcased.
The following year, Sweden withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest, but this was the result of broadcaster SR (Sveriges Radio) not wanting to bare the costs of hosting alone. Originally, they asked for all participating countries to help with the cost of the contest, but SR ended up having to foot the bill alone. Sweden was hesitant to even host the 1975 contest in the first place because of the costs, but also because of pressure from left-wing groups.

New photo and quick interview with Gustaf Skarsgård by P4 Extra from Sverige Radio:
Via p4extra on Instagram 12/18/2021:
A long journey with many trips. You could say that I got the role again, says Gustaf Skarsgård, about the role as Karl-Oskar in the remake of Utvandrarna / The Emigrants.
The actor was recently nominated for a Guldbagge for his contribution to the upcoming big movie and P4 Extra called to congratulate him.
- It feels fun, I have tried to let go of the ego and do as good a cavalier role as I could to highlight Kristina. So it feels good to be nominated for such an attempt, he says to Erik Blix.
In the background during the interview, his daughter [November] eats salmon and howls suddenly.
- She is also excited about the Guldbagge Gala, laughs Gustaf.
Lisa Carlehed, also a Golden Bag nominee, plays Kristina and Utvandrarna (”The Emigrants”) has a cinema premiere on Christmas Day 25 December.

Swedish public broadcast radio discusses this year's Christmas decorations of the white house in usa
Host "and the trees. They don't even look like proper spruce! What type of tree even is that? Red dipped..."
The journalist stationed in usa: "dear, the trees are not real. They are made of plastic"
The host: WTF?! what, they are fake?? *has a meltdown over usa crimes towards Christmas deco*
They then agreed that all possible good choices made in the Christmas deco, which they defined as "that central European darkness, like the grimes tales" could be entirely credited to Slovenia (not even to really to Melania. Just Slovenia)
Everything ugly: that was entirely usa:s fault

Melodifestivalen 1958
The very first Melodifestivalen occurred in 1958 and was then called Schlagertävling (Schlager contest). This year, there was no national selection. Instead, the winner was selected internally by Sveriges Radio (SR) - Swedish public service radio. It was done in collaboration with the composer union SKAP. This was not only the first, but also the only, time the Swedish Eurovision representant was selected this way.
The winner ended up being Alice Babs with the song Lilla stjärna (Little star). This is also the only song I've been able to find from this contest, so no ranking will be made.
Lilla stjärna is a song that is just about what you would expect from early days Eurovision. It's a dreamy song with lyrics about a 15-year-old girl musing about the boy she holds dear. The sound is very typical of the 50s, and though it's not my cup of tea it's undeniable that Alice Babs was a wonderful singer.
In Eurovision, which was held in Hilversum in The Netherlands this year, it ended up ranking 4th out of 10 participating countries.

#Definition and Definition of Film / Movie
While the players who play a role in the film are referred to as actors (men) or actresses (women). There is also the term extras that are used as supporting characters with few roles in the film. This is different from the main actors who have bigger and more roles. Being an actor and an actress must be demanded to have good acting talent, which is in accordance with the theme of the film he is starring in. In certain scenes, the actor’s role can be replaced by a stuntman or a stuntman. The existence of a stuntman is important to replace the actors doing scenes that are difficult and extreme, which are usually found in action action films. Films can also be used to convey certain messages from the filmmaker. Some industries also use film to convey and represent their symbols and culture. Filmmaking is also a form of expression, thoughts, ideas, concepts, feelings and moods of a human being visualized in film. The film itself is mostly a fiction, although some are based on fact true stories or based on a true story.
There are also documentaries with original and real pictures, or biographical films that tell the story of a character. There are many other popular genre films, ranging from action films, horror films, comedy films, romantic films, fantasy films, thriller films, drama films, science fiction films, crime films, documentaries and others.
That’s a little information about the definition of film or movie. The information was quoted from various sources and references. Hope it can be useful.
❍❍❍ TV MOVIE ❍❍❍
The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 1930s. Televised events such as the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 19340 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoff’s famous introduction at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 19440 World MOVIE inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 1948, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name “Mr Television” and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 4, 1951 when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&T’s transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets.
The first national color broadcast (the 1954 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 1, 1954. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 1965, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 19402, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completely all-color network season.
❍❍❍ Formats and Genres ❍❍❍
See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional MOVIE). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.[citation needed]
A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 1980s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to the characters’ lives during the episode, it was usually undone by the end. Because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since the 1980s, many MOVIE feature progressive change in the plot, the characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television MOVIE to have this kind of dramatic structure,[4][better source needed] while the later MOVIE Babylon 5 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intended five-season run.[citation needed] In “DC1&”, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than film.[5] Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In “DC1&”, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: “I think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television.

Introducing RadioText.net - Transcribing news episodes from Sveriges Radio
RadioText.net is a site that transcribes news episodes from Swedish Radio and makes them accessible. It uses multiple AI-based services in Azure from Azure Cognitive Services like Speech-to-Text, Text Analytics, Translation, and Text-to-Speech.
By using all of the services, you can listen to "Ekot" from Swedish Radio in English :) Disclaimer: The site is primarily a technical demo, and should be treated as such.
Background
Just to give you (especially non-Swedish) people a background. Sveriges Radio (Swedish Radio) is the public service radio in Sweden like BBC is in the UK. Swedish Radio does produce some shows in languages like English, Finnish and Arabic - but the majority is (for natural reasons) produced in Swedish.
The main news show is called Ekot ("The Echo") and they broadcast at least once every hour and the broadcasts range from 1 minute to 50 minutes. The spoken language for Ekot is Swedish.
For some time, I've been wanting to build a public demo with the AI Services in Azure Cognitive Services, but as always with AI - you need some datasets to work with. It just so happens that Sveriges Radio has an open API with access to all of their publically available data, including audio archive - enabling me to work with the speech API:s.
Architecture
The site runs in Azure and is heavily dependant on Cognitive Services. It's split into two parts, Collect & Analyze and Present & Read.
Collect & Analyze
The collect & analyze part is a series of actions that will collect, transcribe, analyze and store the information about the episodes.
It's built using .NET Core 3.1 and can be hosted as an Azure function, Container or something else that can run continuously or on a set interval.
The application periodically looks for a new episode of Ekot using the Sveriges Radio open API. There is a NuGet-package available that wraps the API for .NET (disclaimer, I'm the author of that package...). Once a new episode arrives, it caches the relevant data in Cosmos DB and the media in Blob Storage.
JSON Response: https://api.sr.se/api/v2/episodes/get?id=1464731&format=json
The reason to cache the media is that the batch version of Speech-to-text requires the media to be in Blob Storage.
Once all data is available locally, it starts the asynchronous transcription using Cognitive Services Speech-to-text API. It specifically uses the batch transcription which supports transcribing longer audio files. Note that the default speech recognition only supports 15 seconds because it is (as I've understood it) more targeted towards understanding "commands".
The raw result of the transcription is stored in Blob-storage, and the most relevant information is stored in Cosmos DB.
The transcription contains the combined result (a long string of all the text) the individual words with timestamps. A sample of such a file can be found below:
Original page at Sveriges Radio: Nyheter från Ekot 2020-03-20 06:25
Original audio: Audio.mp3
Transcription (Swedish): Transcription.json
This site only uses the combined result but could improve the user experience by utilizing the data of individual words.
All of the texts (title, description, transcription) are translated into English and Swedish (if those were not the original language of the audio) using Cognitive Services Translator Text API.
A sample can be found here: https://radiotext.net/episode/1464731
All texts mentioned above are analyzed using Cognitive Services Text Analytics API, which provides sentiment analysis, keyphrases and (most important) named entities. Named entities are a great way to filter and search the episodes by. It's better than keywords, as it's not only a word but also what kind of category it is. The result is stored in Cosmos DB.
The translated transcriptions are then converted back into audio using Cognitive Services Text-to-Speech. It produces one for English and one for Swedish. For English, there is support for the Neural Voice and I'm impressed by the quality, it's almost indistinguishable from a human. The voice for Swedish is fine, but you will hear that it's computer-generated. The generated audio is stored in Blob Storage.
Original audio: Audio.mp3
English audio (JessaNeural, en-US): Speaker_en-US-JessaNeural.mp3
Swedish audio (HedvigRUS, sv-SE): Speaker_sv-SE-HedvigRUS.mp3
Last but not least, a summary of the most relevant data from previous steps are denormalized and stored in Cosmos DB (using Table API).
Present & Read
The site that presents the data is available at https://radiotext.net/. It's built using ASP.NET Core 3.1 and is deployed as a Linux Docker container to Dockerhub and then released to an Azure App Service.
Currently, it lists all episodes and allows for in-memory filtering and search. From the listing, you can see the first part of the transcription in English and listen to the English audio.
By entering the details page, you can explore the data in multiple languages as well as the original information from the API.
Immersive reader
Immersive Reader is a tool/service that's been available for some time as part of Office, for example in OneNote. It's a great way to make reading and understanding texts easier. My wife works as a speech- and language pathologist and she says that this tool is a great way to enable people to understand texts. I've incorporated the service into Radiotext to allow the user to read the news using this tool.
Primarily, it can read the text for you, and highlight the words that are currently being read:
It can also explain certain words, using pictures:
And if you are learning about grammar, it can show you grammar details like what verbs are nouns, verbs, and adjectives:
I hadn't used this service before, but it shows great potential for making texts more accessible. Combined with Speech-to-text, it can also make audio more accessible.
Cost
I've tried to get a grip on what the cost would be to do run this service and I estimate that to run all services for one episode of Ekot (5 minutes) the cost is roughly €0,2. That includes transcribing, translating, analyzing and generating audio for multiple languages.
Speech pricing
Translation pricing
Text analytics pricing
Also, there will be a cost for running the web, analyzer, and storage.
Ideas for improvement
The current application was done to showcase and explore a few services, but it's not in any way feature complete. Here are a few ideas on the top of my mind.
Live audio transcription: Speech to text supports live audio transcription, so we could transcribe the live radio feed. Could be comined with subtitles idea below.
Improve accuracy with Custom Speech: Using Custom Speech we could improve the accuracy of the transcriptions by training it on some common domain-specific words. For example, the jingle is often treated as a words, while it should not.
Enable subtitles: Using the timestamp data from the transcription subtitles could be generated. That would enable a scenario where we can combine the original audio with subtitles.
Multiple voices: A natural part of a news episode are interviews. And naturally, in interviews, there are multiple people involved. The audio I'm generating now is reading all texts with the same voice, so in scenarios when there are conversations it sounds kind of strange. Using conversation transcription it could find out who says what and generate the audio with multiple voices.
Improve long audio: The current solution will fail when generating audio for long texts. The Long Audio API allows for that.
Handle long texts: Both translation and text analytics has limitations on the length of the texts. At the moment, the texts are cut if they are too long, but they could be split into multiple chunks and then analyzed and concatenated again.
Search using Azure Search: At the moment the "search" and "filtering" functionality is done in memory, just for demo purposes. Azure Search allows for a much better search experience and could be added for that. Unfortunately, it does not allow for automatic indexing of Cosmos DB Table API at the moment.
Custom Neural Voice: I've always wanted to be a newsreader, and using Custom Neural Voice I might be able to do so ;) Custom Neural Voice can be trained on your voice and used to generate the audio. But, even if we could to this, it doesn't mean we should. Custom Neural Voice is one (maybe the only?) service you need to apply for to be able to use. In the world of fake news, I would vote for not implementing this.

BILLY JOEL - SHE'S ALWAYS A WOMAN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjv1gSPktdU
It's 19:th of March and I have gathered/read some news about the Corona/Covid-19-virus in the swedish region (some about government's demands too), 10 confirmed dead now - like a few articles from January (wierdly) showing too, on state gov radio news site (SR NEWS), but then in an "ukranian" airplane "shot-down" - over Iran's territorial regions.
We'll see if they CAN have some "connections", later - if figures are rising or not. I saw figures of both dead and infected via the international swedish news site LOCAL.SE today...
I might write about what I can see when there's more info on this topic - government is said to demand more "insight" in the "shot-down" of that "jet" (a "goat", in swedish), over two months ago.
If it's a D'evil's Karma - of doing evil things, that's behind the "figures", in statistics - then this song I mentioned before... is describing how it can be to meet your worst enemy, "El Diablo" himself - with a "mind" of a three-years-old little girl... it hurts like hell - on your inside ("he" enters in 'hidden angles', to your most private domains) and most die by "her" intrusions
- - -
BILLY JOEL - SHE'S ALWAYS A WOMAN She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes She can ruin your faith with her casual lies And she only reveals what she wants you to see She hides like a child but she's always a woman to me
She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you She can ask for the truth but she'll never believe you And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free Yeah she steals like a thief but she's always a woman to me
Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, and she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind
And she'll promise you more than the Garden of Eden Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be Blame it all on yourself cause she's always a woman to me
Mmm Mmm
Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, and she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind
She is frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool But she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree And the most she will do is throw shadows at you But she's always a woman to me
Mmm Mmm

Having a rest day from study today, I catched up to Swedish public radio political journalism podcast "politikerpodden", and what i learned from THAT is the swedens political journalists are starting to die on the inside from boredom atm.
Best part was when the host asked: "but do you ever find out anything important by hanging out in the corridor outside different politicians offices?"
Political journalist 1: "nope"
The host: "but WHY do you spend your days doing this then?"
Political journalist 1: "well one have to have something to entertain oneself with during the days, you know" *literally sounds like he is falling asleep while talking*
The host: "so chasing politicans in which door, at which corridors different politican will exit and enter, is your daily work out, instead of going to the parliement gym?"
Political journalist 2: "we can't go there anymore! We are not allowed to use the gym facility in the parliament right now!" *inaudible mock grumpy mumbling*
Political journalist 1: "yeah so now we solved the answer of your question. We do this, cause we can't use the parliaments gym facility. That's why we run forward and back in the parliament and government buildings all the time"
(for context, it's good to know that the swedish government and Parliament infrastructure is several buildings, connected by underground tunnels, which swedish politicans will use to escape journalists. Among things.
But sr journalists also knows these corridors as their backpocket, we learnt during this episode, and will follow and analyse the Instagram posts of the politicans, to figure out which corridor they are using to escape! And then they will all run towards that corridors exit, as some sort of thrill seekers.
The thing is just that. The politicians currently gave nothing to say when they exit and enter different doors. Most likely most of the time the actual answer to what they are currently doing is "so I am going to use the bathroom, so I stepped out of my office"
So, this is what swedish political journalists are currently forced to do, waiting by different doors, hoping they are not exiting the door just to use the bathroom.)
(honestly, perhaps it would be healthy for these particular journalists to take a break soon. Especially the one who sounds like he is falling asleep while speaking, sounds like his soul is slowly being grinded to dust by this routine pfft)

CANTLON: PACK PREPARE FOR BUSY WEEKEND
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack will entertain the Charlotte Checkers Friday night before departing for four games on the road over the next two weeks. They will not return home until January 24th against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Wolf Pack winning streak grew to five-games and in the process, tying their season-best mark after a 2-1 win over the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center before 10,240 on a Wednesday night. Hartford's leading scorer, Vinni Lettieri, has six points in his last five games. He also has scored a goal three straight scored the game-winning goal, his 14th, with 53.9 seconds left in the game. Goalie Adam Huska stopped 26 of 27 shots. The Wolf Pack was held to just 15 shots but made the two that scored led them to victory. Boo Nieves continues his strong play and has garnered seven points in his last six gamers. The Wolf Pack holds the top spot in the Atlantic Division with a record of 22-8-2-5 (51 points) and now are four points ahead of Hershey and six ahead of the Providence Bruins. For Hershey, this was just their second loss in their last 15 games. The team has undergone some serious roster changes in the past month and with the exception of a small blip of a five-game losing streak, they have maintained a strong level of consistency at home, late in games, and against key divisional rivals. The Wolf Pack are 15-1-2-5 at home and are unbeaten with taking a lead after two periods at 14-0-1-2. They've won all five games thus far against Providence who they were battling for first place before being supplanted by Hershey. LIFE WITHOUT IGOR Goaltender Igor Shesterkin is on recall by the New York Rangers and made his NHL debut with a 5-3 victory against the Colorado Avalanche. Shesterkin got off to a tough start giving up goals on his first two shots. To be fair, all three goals he surrendered he wasn't totally responsible for. One was a tip-in, another a breakaway from Nathan MacKinnon and a wide-open goal on the right-wing. Shesterkin followed that up with a superb showing stopping 46 of 49 shots in a 6-3 win over the New Jersey Devils as ex-Wolf Pack, Tony D’Angelo piled up five points, including the first hat-trick since the Hall of Fame Brian Leetch (Cheshire) had in a playoff game in 1995. It was only the third in team history and the first two were Reijo Ruotsolainen (1982) and Dave Maloney (1980). Shesterkin was very sharp in the third period stopping a pair of scoring chances from Avalanche defensemen Samuel Girard and Calder Trophy candidate, Cale Makar. No doubt Shesterkin will have a long NHL career, but the Rangers also have two competent, capable NHL goalies in future Hall-of-Famer, Henrik Lundquist, and ex-Pack, Alexander Georgiev. Carrying three goalies is difficult at any level of hockey, with one netminder always on the outside looking in, and likely unhappy. The Rangers have been anticipating their fifth-round draft choice in 2012. He had superb KHL numbers and has finally arrived in North America. Shesterkin’s deal to come to North America was struck in the spring when the Rangers negotiated a European (KHL) clause in his deal that kicked in at halfway mark of the AHL season. It was eclipsed by several games, and the NHL season clause has been met, and he could return to Russia without penalty. The NHL trade deadline is February 24th, just seven weeks away. Lundqvist’s age, salary, and no-movement clause make it HIGHLY unlikely he's going anywhere, and the market for Georgiev isn’t clear at this point. Shesterkin is likely to see more action at the NHL level. It is possible but perhaps unlikely, that Shesterkin, who does not need to pass through waivers, will get sent to Hartford to playing time when Lundqvist and Georgiev are in the net. There will be a lot of rumors and a lot of news coming out of New York that will effect Hartford as the deadline approaches and the Rangers decide if they should be a buyer or a seller at the deadline and how to supplement the success currently going on in the Connecticut capital. MESSAGE FROM SWEDEN Lias Andersson was last seen departing on a plane from Bradley International Airport after the Wolf Pack's two-game road trip to Charlotte. He hasn’t been seen since until the next day after he'd left the team that through his agent it became public that Andersson had requested a trade. He was suspended by the Rangers and there has been radio silence until Wednesday. Andersson gave an interview with the Swedish sports news service, SVTP Sports (their version of ESPN/TSN). Uffe Bodin, the Editor-In-Chief of newsme.com, tweeted this translated information. The troubling tweet raises some serious questions and cast some serious aspersions and insinuations that could have profound impacts going forward for Andersson having any hope of returning to the Rangers or to any organization contemplating acquiring him. Was Andersson injured toward the end of his self-imposed departure from Hartford? What was this alleged incident that occurred that made things untenable for him to stay in Hartford? His assertion about "feeling safe" depicts some untoward work environment in Hartford, was there any? Is he using the team-issued suspension after leaving the team as some faux reasoning for sitting in Sweden and not practicing in Hartford or Cromwell with the Wolf Pack? Was he handling or coping with the rigors of pro hockey and being a number seven overall draft pick very well? Based on his play and this move the answer would be no. Andersson could be making a fatal career mistake here. The NHL is a very closed society. While the teams are on ice rivals and there's a union as a league and when one seeks to overturn the order of things, they don’t like it very much. Especially from a player in his first three years of an NHL deal that he and his agent signed off on and approved by both the NHL and the NHLPLA. Teams are not likely to take on a player who jumps ship when he's under-performing at the NHL and AHL level on an entry-level contract. There is hockey graveyard littered with first-round busts and players whose ego’s got the better of them. Andy, as he was known, was not a malcontent by several accounts, but self-imposed pressure to live up to his number seven overall status is a part of the equation that has him in Sweden and not Hartford. One veteran NHL scout said on the condition that they not be named, about Andersson. “I spoke to our GM about him, and he said, ‘It’s not his fault he was drafted seventh when maybe 27 or 37 was more appropriate. He has to understand that he isn’t a top-six forward, but a bottom-six forward. I think he’s a salvageable player at age 20, but he has to change his self-appraisal of his skill set.” On what could be likely his last ever Wolf Pack goal, he was contemplating a Filip Forsberg (Nashville) move on a breakaway coming off the right-wing. For Andersson, if he's to have an NHL career, this walkout needs to end immediately. NOTES: The Bridgeport Sound Tigers made an AHL deal with the Utica Comets where they sent oft-injured forward, John Stevens Jr. to the Comets for future considerations. Stevens is the son of ex-Hartford Whaler, AHL Hall of Famer, and current Dallas Stars, Assistant Coach, John Stevens Sr. Drake Rymsha, the son of ex-New Haven Nighthawk, Andy Rynsha, was sent from Ontario (AHL) to Ft. Wayne (ECHL). How about trading your nephew? All-time Wolf Pack great, and head coach, John Paddock, who's the current GM and VP of Hockey Ops for the Regina Pats (WHL) sent his nephew, Max, to the Prince Albert Raiders yesterday. That won't be awkward at the Christmas Table Goalie Nick Malik, the son of ex-Whaler, Ranger, and Beast of New Haven defenseman, Marek Malik, is leaving home for North America. He played primarily with HC Frydek-Mistek (Czech Republic Division-2) where his father is the assistant coach this season. His Czech Elite League (CEL) rights are with HC Ocelari Trinec where he played two games. The younger Malik got in some time for the Czech Republic WJC team in the just-completed tournament but has decided to head to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL) for the rest of the year. The Greyhounds drafted him in the CHL Import last June in the first-round (50th overall). All CHL teams are involved in the draft. He was eleventh pick (168th overall) in the NAHL Draft by the Muskegon Lumberjacks as well last year Ethan Cardwell, the nephew of former New Haven Knights, Matt Cardwell, was traded from the Saginaw Spirit (OHL) to the Barrie Colts (OHL) as part of a five-player trade at the junior trade deadline. Logan Stephenson, the son of former Whaler, Bob Stephenson, goes from ASC Corona Brasov (Romania-EBEL) to HKM Zloven (Slovakia-SLEL) for the rest of the season. Read the full article

LUCY AND JACK BENNY’S BIOGRAPHY
S3;E11 ~ November 23, 1970
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed by Herbert Kenwith ~ Written by Milt Josefsberg and Ray Singer
Synopsis
Jack Benny needs a private secretary to help him write his autobiography. Naturally, Harry volunteers Lucy.  Through a series of flashbacks we meet many of the women in Benny's life – all played by Lucy.
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carter / 'Mother' / 'Zelda' / 'Debbie' / 'Mary' / 'Lola'), Gale Gordon (Harrison Otis Carter)
Desi Arnaz Jr. (Craig Carter) and Lucie Arnaz (Kim Carter) do not appear in this episode, although they do receive opening title credit.
Guest Cast
Tumblr media
Jack Benny (Himself) was born on Valentine’s day 1894. He had a successful vaudeville career, and an even greater career on radio with “The Jack Benny Program” which also became a successful television show. His screen persona was known for being a penny-pincher and playing the violin. Benny was a Beverly Hills neighbor of Lucille Ball’s and the two were off-screen friends. Benny previously appeared on “The Lucy Show” as Harry Tuttle (a Jack Benny doppelganger) in “Lucy and the Plumber” (TLS S3;E2), did a voice over cameo as himself in “Lucy With George Burns” (TLS S5;E1), and played himself in “Lucy Gets Jack Benny’s Account” (TLS S6;E6). This is the second of his three episodes of “Here’s Lucy,”  all playing himself. Benny and Ball appeared on many TV variety and award shows together. He died in 1974.
Tumblr media
George Burns (Himself) was born Nathan Birnbaum in New York City in January 1896. He married Gracie Allen in 1926 and the two formed an act (Burns and Allen) that toured in vaudeville.  They had their own hit show “The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show” first on radio then on CBS TV from 1950 to 1958, airing concurrently with “I Love Lucy.” After Allen’s death in 1964, Burns reinvented himself as a solo act. Burns played himself on a 1966 episode of “The Lucy Show” (TLS S5;E1). In 1976 he won an Oscar for playing one of The Sunshine Boys. He was also known for playing the title role in Oh, God! (1978) and its 1984 sequel Oh, God! You Devil.  He died at the age of 100.
Tumblr media
Mary Livingstone (Herself, uncredited voice) married Jack Benny in 1927 and the pair remained together until his death in 1974. Initially an actor who appeared on Benny's radio and television programs, she retired from show business in 1958, at the same time as Gracie Allen, wife of George Burns. She died in 1983.
Tumblr media
Michael Barbera (Jack Benny as a Boy) was a child actor who was 12 years old at the time of filming. He accrued 18 screen credits before leaving the industry.
Tumblr media
Ben Wrigley (Lola's Butler) played Liberace’s Butler in “Lucy and Liberace” (S2;E16).  He was a British actor who appeared in My Fair Lady (1964) and Bednobs and Broomsticks (1971). Wrigley previously appeared as a ticket agent in “Lucy Flies to London” (TLS S5;E6).  This is the second of his three episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Florence Lake (Trixie, right) did four films with Lucille Ball between 1936 and 1938.  She will do one more episode of the series as well as the 1974 TV movie “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye” starring Lucille Ball.
Ginger (left), Trixie's friend, goes uncredited and has no dialogue.
Tumblr media
Louis Quinn (Sailor) started out as a comedy writer for Milton Berle on radio and moved to acting in 1954. He is best remembered as Roscoe in “77 Sunset Strip” (1958-63).
It is possible that this character is based on Pat O'Brien, who was also a sailor and friends with Jack Benny.
Sig Frohlich (Sailor, uncredited) makes the second of his uncredited background appearances on the series.
Walter Smith (Sailor, uncredited) made a total of 13 mostly uncredited appearances on the series. He also did one episode of “The Lucy Show.”
The other sailors and patrons of the café are played by uncredited background performers.
Tumblr media
Writer and Script Supervisor Milt Josefsberg was a writer on Jack Benny's television program for a decade. Josefsberg wrote all three of the “Here's Lucy” scripts that featured Benny.
This episode was shot without the presence of a studio audience. In her DVD introduction to the episode, Lucie Arnaz says that this episode didn't 'wrap' until the early hours of the morning.
Tumblr media
The evening this episode first aired (November 23, 1970) Desi Arnaz Sr. (above with Ann Elder) guest-starred on “Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In,” the second half hour of which aired opposite “Here's Lucy.”
Tumblr media
At the start of the episode, Harry is on the telephone with Jack Benny's manager Irving Fein (inset). In real life, Fein was Benny's manager and publicity director from 1947 to 1975.  Fein also managed George Burns later in his career.
Jack Benny's present-day living room is a re-dressed version of Lucy Carter's living room. The front door, fireplace, and kitchen door are all in the same location in both sets.
Tumblr media
The title of Jack Benny's autobiography is...
“The Women in My Life or I am Curious Jell-O”
Jell-O was a long-time sponsor of Jack Benny's radio and television programs. I Am Curious (Yellow) is a 1967 Swedish art film that was controversial and censored in many US cities due to sexual content.
Chapter 1 ~ MOTHER
Tumblr media
The first flashback is set in Jack Benny's childhood home in Waukegan, Illinois where Lucy plays his mother.  In reality, Benny’s mother was named Emma Sachs Kubelsky, although it is not mentioned here.
Little Jackie practices “Love in Bloom” on the violin. “Love in Bloom” by Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin was published in 1934 and became the signature song of Jack Benny.
When Mother (Lucy) says Jackie walks like her, he shouts “Now cut that out” which was one of Jack Benny's common replies in his comedy routines. He says it later on in this episode.
Tumblr media
Mother gets a telephone call from next door neighbor Mrs. Heifetz to complain about Jackie's violin playing. Mother claims that Jackie plays much better than her son Jascha. Jascha Heifetz (1901-87, inset photo) is considered to be the greatest violinist of all time. Coincidentally, Lucille Ball was neighbors with Jack Benny and often could hear his violin practicing from her yard!
Chapter 2 ~ ZELDA
Tumblr media
In the second flashback, Jack is in the navy and meets a waitress named Zelda. Benny really did serve in the US Navy during World War I.  The name Zelda was also used as a former girlfriend on a 1957 episode of “The Jack Benny Program.”  The character was played by Sandra Gould, who had appeared on two episodes of “I Love Lucy” and one “The Lucy Show” but is probably best remembered as the second actor to play Mrs. Kravitz on “Bewitched.”
Jack's sailor friend wants to go to Roseland and dance instead of visiting another museum. Roseland was a popular New York City dance hall that opened in 1922 and closed in 2014.
Chapter 3 ~ DEBBIE
Tumblr media
The third flashback is set during Jack Benny's vaudeville days.  Lucy plays Debbie Fink, his comedy partner. Fink was a surname Benny used in a 1961 episode of “The Jack Benny Show.”
On stage, Benny plays “Sweet Georgia Brown” on the violin while Debbie dances the Charleston. The song was first written in 1925 by Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard.
Chapter 4 ~ MARY
Tumblr media
In the fourth flashback, Jack Benny is a radio star broadcasting with Mary Livingstone. In this sequence, Lucille Ball lip synchs to the voice of the real Mary Livingstone, who became Mrs. Jack Benny in 1927. She frequently performed with her husband on radio and television.
Tumblr media
As part of the 'radio show' Mary (Lucy) reads a letter from her mother who lives in Plainfield, New Jersey. Jack calls her “the midnight cowboy of New Jersey.” Benny is probably referencing the 1969 Oscar-winning film Midnight Cowboy. In reality, Mary Livingstone was born Sylvia Marcowitz in Seattle, Washington.
Chapter 5 ~ LOLA
Tumblr media
In the fifth flashback, film star Jack Benny breaks up with blonde bombshell Lola Lavere (Lucy).
Tumblr media
In retaliation, Lola threatens to get the studio to re-issue The Horn Blows at Midnight. The 1943 film was a financial failure at the box office and Benny would often make fun of the fact on his TV and radio shows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The striped wallpaper in the first flashback is the same as was seen in the first sequence in “Lucy and the Generation Gap” (S2;E12).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Continuity! Lucy says she never thought she'd meet a big star like Jack Benny when in fact the two met in the second episode of the series when the Carters stayed at his Palm Springs home – for a fee!
Reel Life! The episode ignores the fact that Benny and Livingstone were married in order to play up the women in his life. The final scene has Benny double dating with George Burns and calling themselves swingers!
Tumblr media
“Lucy and Jack Benny’s Biography” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5
This is more of a Jack Benny Program than a Lucille Ball show, but it is enjoyable none-the-less. There is a silly running gag that concerns Benny splitting his trousers and connected to the lyric “can it be the breeze” from his signature song, “Love in Bloom.”  There is a surprising joke at the end of the show that implies that the elderly ladies are taking birth control pills. Not the usual kind of humor for Lucille Ball, but she was trying to keep pace with the times. Silly, but enjoyable – and Lucy never looked better in her various wigs and costumes.

Avicii Tribute Concert for Mental Health Awareness to be Live Streamed Globally
For months, fans have been anticipating the Avicii Tribute Concert for Mental Health Awareness and it’s almost time.
The show, to take place at Friends Arena in Stockholm, sold out instantly — however, you can still watch the live stream from wherever you are. The Avicii Tribute Concert will be live streamed globally on the late producer’s official YouTube, Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as other outlets*.
For the first time ever, 19 collaborators from Avicii’s biggest hits, including Aloe Blacc, Adam Lambert, Dan Tyminski, Rita Ora and other surprise acts, will come together with a 30-piece ensemble to perform. There will also be headline DJ sets from David Guetta, Kygo, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Laidback Luke and Nicky Romero, not included in the broadcast.
The Tim Bergling Foundation will donate all proceeds to mental health needs and suicide prevention for young people.
We want this concert to help put the topic on the agenda and pay attention to the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide. Policies and tools are needed to detect the risks and prevent suicide, especially among young people. — Klas Bergling, Avicii’s father
Tune in for the main concert on December 5th at 9 pm – 11:15 pm local time (CET).
*Other outlets include: SVT (Swedish TV), YLE (Finnish TV), SR (Swedish Radio), Fun Radio (France), Evolution Radio (US iHeart Radio), Firelane (US AMP Radio), Block FM Radio (Japan), EBU (European Broadcasting Union), and more.
