How a Timely Phone Call from Sushil Kumar Transformed Aman Sehrawat's Wrestling Journey
Aman Sehrawat, India's only male wrestler at the Paris Olympics, has experienced a transformative journey, thanks to a timely phone call from Sushil Kumar. Despite sharing a modest room with fellow wrestlers at Chhatrasal Stadium, Sehrawat's determination and spirit have taken a significant leap.
The 20-year-old wrestler has big shoes to fill, stepping in for Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Dahiya in the 57 kg category. After missing an Olympic quota at the Asian Qualifiers in Bishkek, Sehrawat was determined yet anxious. It was then that he received a motivational call from Sushil Kumar, a two-time Olympic medallist.
Sehrawat recalls Sushil's advice vividly: “He told me not to get too defensive and to aim to fight the full six minutes. He emphasized not being indecisive and sticking to my attacking style.” This advice was crucial in helping Sehrawat secure India’s first and only men’s Olympic quota at the World Qualifiers in Istanbul.
Despite his prowess in attack, Sehrawat acknowledges the need to strengthen his defense, a crucial aspect at the senior level. Coach Lalit Kumar ensures that Sehrawat focuses on his strengths while improving his defense to be well-rounded for the Paris Olympics.
Sehrawat's journey is marked by inspiration from Chhatrasal legends like Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Ravi Dahiya. He aims to follow their footsteps and bring glory to his wrestling nursery at the Olympics.
Training at Chhatrasal since his early teens, Sehrawat’s resilience has been unwavering. The support from his coaches and the legacy of his predecessors motivate him daily. As he prepares for the Paris Olympics, Sehrawat's dream of an Olympic medal fuels his rigorous training, embodying the spirit of Chhatrasal.

2023 CM press on for early Forest approvals
SHIMLA 27th February, 2023 Discusses State's issues with Union E&F Minister Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in a meeting with Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi today advocated for early forest clearances for escalating various ongoing development projects in Himachal Pradesh. Sh. Sukhu urged the Union Minister to ensure early forest approvals in a time bound manner for construction of heliports, green corridors as mandated by the State Government for making Himachal as 'Green Energy State' by the year 2025 and other major ongoing projects. The tough geological conditions of Himachal Pradesh, necessitate to construct heliports, not only to facilitate the tourists visiting the State, but also cater to the emergency needs during natural calamities or otherwise. A decision should be taken without delay regarding the necessary forest clearances pending for the construction of the heliports, he urged the Union Minister. The state government is promoting e-vehicles in Himachal Pradesh and developing necessary infrastructure for the same by constructing adequate number of e-charging stations for electrical vehicles. Besides, green corridors would also be constructed on both sides of all National and state highways in the state. In order to speed up the process, various approvals regarding forest land should be accorded in time to achieve the target, said the Chief Minister. Delay in forest clearances creates unnecessary delay in the construction of development projects, especially educational institutions, roads and bridges and ropeways etc. He urged that these approvals should be given as soon as possible. The Chief Minister advocated that the State forest officers of the state should work in unison with the central level forest officers and should take up the cases pending with the Ministry so that approvals can be received in time. Detailed discussions were also held regarding the state's water reservoirs, wild life sanctuaries and eco-tourism guidelines and other important topics including Parivesh Portal, National Transit Pass System, School Nursery Scheme, City Forest Scheme, Davanal (Forest fires) during the summer season in the state. The Chief Minister invited Union Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav to visit Himachal. The Union Minister assured all possible help to the state. Central Forest Secretary, Leena Nandan, other senior officers of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Political Advisor to Chief Minister Sunil Sharma, Principal Resident Commissioner, Sushil Kumar Singla, Resident Commissioner, Meera Mohanty, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests V.K. Tiwari, Chief Conservator Wildlife, Rajeev Kumar, Nodal Officer for Forest Conservation Act, Harshvardhan Kathuria and other senior officers were present in the meeting. Read the full article

Patna, India — At least 31 people died and 20 others were hospitalized in serious condition after allegedly drinking tainted liquor sold without authorization in eastern India, a top elected official said Thursday. The deaths occurred Tuesday and Wednesday and the victims belonged to three villages in Saran district of Bihar state where the manufacturing, sale and consumption of liquor are prohibited. The deaths were reported in a district government-run hospital where the sick were brought by their families for treatment, said Dr. S.D. Sinha, the hospital chief. Sale and consumption of liquor were prohibited in Bihar state in 2016 after women's groups campaigned against poor workers splurging their meager incomes on drinking. Police officer Santosh Kumar said several of the 20 hospitalized had lost their eyesight. Several opposition parties, including the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, held protests Thursday outside the state legislature building to demand the state's liquor ban be scrapped and some monetary compensation provided to the bereaved families. Sushil Modi, the state BJP leader, said more than 1,000 people have died after drinking tainted liquor since the ban was imposed six years ago. The BJP is in opposition in the state. Nitish Kumar, the state's top elected official belonging to the socialist party Janata Dal, rejected their demands and said the ban on the sale of liquor was "not my personal wish but a response to the cries of the women of the state." Three people have been detained for questioning for allegedly selling spiked alcohol in the area, he said. Saran district is nearly 40 miles north of Patna, the Bihar state capital.
Deaths from illegally brewed alcohol are common in India, where illicit liquor is cheap and often spiked with chemicals such as pesticides to increase potency. Illicit liquor has also become a hugely profitable industry across India, where bootleggers pay no taxes and sell enormous quantities of their product to the poor at a cheap rate. At least 28 people died and 60 others became ill from drinking tainted liquor in the western Indian state of Gujarat earlier this year. Gujarat is another Indian state where the manufacturing, sale and consumption of liquor are prohibited.
In 2020, at least 120 people died after drinking tainted liquor in India's northern Punjab state.
