The Detective was no stranger to bad memories──haunting nightmares about things you can't change, no matter how hard you try, no matter how many different situations you come up with. Sometimes, it was just the thought of something happening that would twist pervertedly in your mind, creating evil versions of things and people──your mind tricking you into thinking things were really happening. It was an unfortunate and devastating prank your brain pulled on you──which was probably why Detective Han didn't sleep much.

Which was why they were still awake when the first scream ripped through your throat.

Out of habit their hand reached down to touch the place where their gun would be holstered to their waist but wasn't. Their hand shook out as they made their way to the bedroom, hand brushing the walls as they rushed through the hallway.

You were still asleep when they found you, thrashing in your bed from side to side──arms flailing at your sides, brow drawn harshly and ineligible words falling from under your breath.

Now, they knew that they probably shouldn't wake you──their brother had told them it could make it worse but their heart hurt just watching you in pain. They knelt down in the bed beside you, slowly lowering their hands to your arms, rubbing up and down gently to try and calm you down.

When your eyes fluttered open, still darting all around in panic they hummed lowly, "It's just me, you're alright. You were having a nightmare, you're coming down from it now." They repeated it a few times, trying to maintain the pace and tone of their words. Your hands came to latch onto their wrists, nails digging into their skin as your breathing evened out and your panic subsided.

There weren't words exchanged after your small whimper of thank you from you. The Detective took a deep breath for themself and pushed back on the niggling feeling of discomfort in their chest─for the thought of being so intimate still felt weird to them, even if it was them wanting to initiate it─and manoeuvred behind you to pull you into their chest, your back flush against their chest, their lips brushing your ear as as they began their little mantra again.

Your cheek nuzzled into their shoulder as you pulled a deep breath through your nose, eyes closed as you feathered your fingers together. And despite the slightly awkward position──and the crick in the neck they'd likely feel in the morning, they'd do it again just to hear you sleep soundly again.
