Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse started off as a schoolteacher. It might therefore be said that of all the lessons he taught, none was as punishing as the one he gave Pakistani intruders at Tololing during the 1999 Kargil War. A neighbouring unit in the Lone Hill sector was in a bit of a jam, as the Pakistanis were more than prepared to hang on to their newly acquired accommodation. Having seen that they weren't exactly quick learners, captain Kenguruse decided that like particularly naughty children, they needed a ruler on their knuckles. In this case, the ruler was a rocket launcher, an ak47 and a knife. At a height of 16,000 feet and with the temperature at MINUS ten, he shed his boots and volunteered to climb that treacherous rock face... alone. The first his Pakistani pupils knew of him was probably when a rocket slammed into their machine gun nest, killing two of them. Kenguruse riddled another two with his AK and not wanting to let his blade feel left out out of the action, took out another two with his commando knife. The can of whoopass he opened enabled D company to retake Lone Hill. What might be even more badass is that even after India temporarily vacated Lone Lone Hill for tactical reasons, the Pakistanis didn't dare set up house there again for the rest of the war. Sadly, captain Kenguruse was wounded during this action and died shortly afterwards. He was awarded a richly deserved MVC, India's second highest gallantry award. #kargil #neverforget #warhero #soldier #supremesacrifice #indianarmy #indianmilitary Image source: PIB, India

Braveheart of the Day: Honoring Our Heroes 🇮🇳
On September 25, 2008, at 1815 hours, Havildar Bahadur Singh Bohra of 10 PARA (SF) spotted a group of terrorists in hiding. Despite being vastly outnumbered, he advanced stealthily to intercept them, fully aware of the grave danger. To protect his comrades, he drew heavy automatic fire upon himself, courageously charging and eliminating one terrorist. He suffered gunshot wounds to his left shoulder in the intense exchange but pressed on, guiding and encouraging his comrades. Refusing evacuation, he continued to lead, directing his fellow soldiers while relentlessly pursuing and defeating another terrorist in hand-to-hand combat before succumbing to his injuries. Inspired by his bravery, his comrades went on to eliminate ten more terrorists. Havildar Bahadur Singh Bohra was awarded the Ashoka Chakra for fearless leadership and exceptional bravery.

On 24 September 1995 at 1635 hours, while the cordon was being established around the dispensary in village Chakhu, District Baramulla in J&K, the terrorists threw grenades and opened heavy automatic fire. Gunner Prem Kumar Singh of 29 Rashtriya Rifles, despite being almost paralyzed below the abdomen, crawled to a firing position and retaliated with accurate automatic fire from his Light Machine Gun. Although losing consciousness, he kept engaging the terrorists. As a result of his action, the terrorists were pinned down, and an effective cordon of the dispensary was established. This led to the killing of ten terrorists and the recovery of nine AK rifles in a single operation. Gunner Prem Kumar Singh displayed unmatched valour and made the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
