Miguel O’Hara: A comprehensive reading guide
I honestly don’t know if this has been done yet, and considering that there are multiple different main canons for Miguel, it’s even more confusing on where to start.
To clarify, there is 3 different “Mainstream” universes for Miguel. Earth 928 (The main universe for most Miguel media), Earth-2099, and Earth-6375 (The universe where he’s part of the exiles)
I’m gonna be starting with
Earth-928
(Note: I’ll try to put these in order as much as possible, but due to retcons and other things like Spiderverse it may not be 100% accurate)
Important reads are in bold
-Amazing Spider-Man #365 (Not really important, it’s just a preview of the first issue, but it’s counted as Miguel’s very first appearance so.)
-Spiderman 2099 vol 1 #1-10 (VERY important reads, they set up the universe and Miguel’s origin story)
-2099 unlimited #1-3 (Not really important to the lore, but they’re silly little stories that I have to mention them)
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #11-15
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #16, Ravage 2099 #15, X-men 2099 #5, Doom 2099 #14, Punisher 2099 #13 (VERY important reads, highlights the fall of the hammer arc and shows Miguel’s relationships with other 2099 characters, especially Jake Gallows. Read in the exact order listed)
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #17-22
-2099 unlimited #8
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #23-34
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 annual
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #35-38 (Venom 2099 arc, important read as it introduces Kron Stone properly)
-Spider-Man 2099 special
-Spider-Man 2099 meets Spider-Man (First introduction of Miguel to Peter)
-2099 unlimited 9-10
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #39-43
-Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #1-5
The following issues have been mostly retconned and are no longer canon. I’m listing them still for sake of continuity (Plus they’re interesting) but they are NOT canon to E-928
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 1 #44-46
-2099: World of tomorrow #1-8
-2099: Manifest Destiny
End of retconned comics
-Captain Marvel vol 4 #27-30
-Superior Spider-Man #17-19
-Amazing Spider-Man vol 3 #1
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 2 #1-12
Note during this time is the Spiderverse event and Miguel is featured in multiple comics that tie into it. I will not be listing them all due to time, plus he was mostly featured in his own comic for it anyways
-Secret wars 2099 #1-5
-Amazing Spider-Man vol 4 #1
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 3 #1-10
-Spiderman 2099 vol 3 #11-16 (I list them separately because this takes place during Civil War 2 and that also has a lot of tie in comics that I will not be listing due to time. But yeah. That’s a thing)
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 3 #17-25
-Amazing Spider-Man vol 5 #32-36
Earth 2099
-2099 Alpha
-Spider-Man 2099 vol 4
-2099 Omega (This and vol 4 are E-2099 Miguel’s origin story. I’m not personally a fan of the writing but it is essential to read if you want to understand the universe)
-Spider-Man 2099 Exodus Alpha, #1-5, and Omega
-Spider-Man 2099 Dark Genesis #1-5
-Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099 #1-5 (The best series we’ve gotten so far of this earth, not really important to the Miguel lore. I just like it lol)
Earth-6375
Note that this is optional to read and I’ve heard some very mixed opinions about how Miguel is written here. If you want to read it, be my guest.
-Exiles #72
-Exiles #75-99
-Exiles annual 1
Honorable mention: Timesplitters 2009-2099 #1-4, Spider-Man, and X Men.
These technically take place in a separate continuity to all 3, but they are important enough that I listed them anyways.
Honorable mention 2: Edge of Spiderverse vol 2
Idk what continuity it takes place in. it is currently ongoing.
Other non comic media
The following is a list of media that Miguel is featured in extensively (Not counting all the mobile games because I mean those are just gacha games and aren’t important to the Miguel lore)
-Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse and Spider-Man across the Spiderverse
-Ultimate Spider-Man S3EP9 and 12
-Spider-Man Edge of time (Personal favorite adaptation of Miguel in media)
-Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions
-Araña and Spiderman 2099: Dark Tomorrow (Not confirmed but likely takes place in E-928 5 years after series ends)
And that’s about it! If there’s any appearances I missed, please don’t hesitate to say something and I’ll fix it as soon as possible.
#miguel ohara#miguel o'hara#spider man 2099#spiderman 2099#marvel comics#why yes I spent way too much time on this.

Things non-comic fans get wrong about Peter Parker.
Several people who don't read the comics seem to get ideas about characters and how they act. It's fine when you're doing to characters you know about, but for characters you don't know about, not so much.
Please note: This post is not meant to gate keep anyone from comics, MCU or any other Marvel related products.
#1: He is ugly. This one is false for the most part. Look at the women he has dated, Liz Allan, Gwen, MJ, Black Cat, Carol Danvers and others.
#2: He is naive. This one is also false. Peter is optimistic. There is a difference. Peter himself recognizes that the world is a terrible place. However he thinks it can get better. That is the whole point of him not killing his enemies.
#3: He has to suffer to be relatable. No, just no. This one is false. He doesn't have to suffer to be relatable. He is relatable because he deals with relatable problems. He is nerdy, has to make ends meet, etc. That is how he was relatable. Not suffering. And certainly not whatever the f#ck is going on in the current run.
#4: He is hated by other heroes. This one mainly stems from the Superior Spider-Man comic arc, but is still blatantly wrong. He has several friends in the comics, such as: Daredevil, Deadpool (to an extent) Wolverine, Luke Cage, Johnny Storm, Cloak and Dagger, and several others.
#5: He is not respected by the other heroes. This was also caused by Superior Spider-Man. However several people respect him. Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man respect him for his intelligence. Captain America calls him on of the greatest men he's ever known. Thor says (in a complimentary way) that he was the most mortal man he knew. T'Challa let him eat a Heart-Shaped Herb. Hulk was one of the few people who knew Peter's identity after OMD.
#6: He was a teenager for most of his publication history. The first ever Spider-Man comic was published in August 1962 in Amazing Fantasy #15. He he graduated and became an adult on June 8, 1965 in The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1 #28.

Superior Spider-Man AU where this happens:
1) Spider-Man doesn’t stop Daredevil from going to far exactly one time and his tone and speech patterns are different. Matt is immediately 100% sure this isn’t the Spider-Man he knows.
2) Peter didn’t give one sanctimonious lecture to Kaine for the entire Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider team-up. Kaine is worried about his brother and increasingly convinced that something is wrong with his brother.
3)Felicia is confused and hurt after her Spider pushed her away and insulted her. There was no leaning into their kiss before pulling back. No gentle reprimands. No stuttering excuses. No attempts to make her stop stealing. Just insults and coldness. This isn’t her Spider. Is it Ben maybe? Why wouldn’t he just say that? Who is this if it isn’t Peter?
4) The only thing these three have in common is Spider-Man, but they are more than willing to put up with each other if it means getting Peter back. And if it involves a bit of kidnapping and a few crimes? Well, Peter will thank them later.

Head cannons I have for different fandoms I’m on that I have zero proof for:
Spoilers for TMA season 4, Stardew Valley and Hatchetfeild NT/NT2
Batfam:
Jason Todd likes pottery.
Tim has a tumblr account and is EXTREMELY active on it.
Dick still has the Disco Wing suit and every time he suits up he looks at the Disco Wing suit, sheds a single tear and says “One day… one day..”
Bruce does not get musicals, he takes them too literally or he’s so detached from the reality it shows that he doesn’t get it. Like he was the worst to watch rent with.
Hatchetfeild:
Every court case is Gary running back and forth changing ties and arguing with himself.
Paul remembers all of his friend’s coffee orders.
In every universe with the homeless guy he bothers Pete all the time.
Lex and Hannah can’t play guess who anymore because Webby helps Hannah cheat.
Grace really likes Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Richie watched Modika Magica under the impression It was a normal magical girl anime, and he complained for weeks about how lied to he was.
Emma really likes crime dramas like Criminal Minds, The Mentalist, CSI and Hannibal.
Marvel:
Matt Murdock immediately clocked who Peter was because Matt smelt the web fluid or something.
Monopoly is banned from the avengers tower. (Too many broken tables)
Gwenpool likes daredevil it’s just hard to talk to him because he knows something is different about her and he tries to figure it out.
In superior Spider-Man Every single conversation with the ghost of Peter has some form of argument, close to the end.
Deadpool is banned from every bar in Texas, no I will not elaborate.
TMA:
Even though he doesn’t need to eat or drink Jon still really likes Martin’s tea and he likes some of his childhood comfort food.
Daisy got really into Crocheting after the coffin because she wanted to do something with her hands.
Tim loves the Treasure rule when outdoor rock climbing.
The Admiral really likes Melanie.
Dogs always bark at Jon as he becomes less human.
Stardew Valley:
Shane has a Chicken stuffed animal on a shelf.
Hailey made Emily a flower crown to say sorry for being rude.
Willy really tries to get Elliot to fish but Elliot is grossed out by uncooked live fish.
Alex was forced to listen to a respect women lecture when the other girl characters heard what he did to the girl farmer on the date.
Sebastian is a good cook.

Flash Thompson Venom Recs
@vulpinesaint asked for some recommendations on getting into Flash-as-Venom, so I decided to put together a little guide. Mind you, this is geared towards already having familiarity with Eddie, and of course by extension the Venom Symbiote.
Now -- let me start by saying it may be helpful to see first where it all started going downhill for Eddie and the Symbiote (because we don't get to other hosts until after their breakup). Are any of those comics good? Not really!
But If you really wanted to you could check out Spectacular Spider-Man (2003, Jenkins/Ramos) #1-5 and Marvel Knights Spider-Man (2004, Millar/Cho) #5-12 or thereabouts, which will take you through the official breakup, Angelo Fortunato, and the introduction of Mac Gargan.
For a little taste of what the symbiote had been up to before Chosen Blond Man #2, I also recommend Dark Reign: Sinister Spider-Man (2009, Reed/Bachalo) #1-4 and Siege: Spider-Man (Reed/Santucci, one-shot, just because it's funny).
At the risk of being controversial I also rec the fabulous "New Ways to Die" arc (Amazing Spider-Man #568-573, Slott/Romita Jr.) for a peek at what's going on with Eddie during this time.
If you'd like a primer on Flash Thompson before you jump into Symbiote nonsense, you can check out Amazing Spider-Man #574, which is not a great issue but it is helpful to see what was going on with him. I also recommend the Amazing Spider-Man #622 B story "Stages of Grief" which IS really good and delightful.
Flash officially kicks off as Agent Venom in Amazing Spider-Man #654-654.1 (really -- there's a point-one issue). It's written by Dan Slott so it's not, you know, great, but if you've read Venom Inc. you know what to expect.
Venom (2011) is the real meat of Flash's time. He's kind of silly, as you can see, but for the most part I enjoyed this series. Does it have problems? Sure, but it's worth a read.. The first part (#1-27.1) is written by Rick Remender, and the second (#28-42) is by Cullen Bunn. The latter is, at least in my experience, better-loved for its introduction of Mania in #38, but they are both worth reading.
My personal highlights are: #2 (very good Flash/Symby at the end) #6-8 (Spider-Island tie-ins, you get to see what Eddie is up to) #13-14 (Circle of Four!!!) #17-22 (Savage Six, more fun with Eddie) #33-36 (esPECIALLY #35 oh my god #35 is everything to me. I'm normal don't look at me) #38-42 (Mania -- need I say more?)
I would also be remiss to leave out Superior Spider-Man (2013) #22-25 because while the story is.. meh..?? ...it does have some great Flash/Symby. I would live for them.
Agent Venom additionally appears in Secret Avengers (2010) and Thunderbolts (2013), but all I can really recommend here is the T-bolts Annual. It's a fun one.
And now we get into Cosmic Bullshit Shenanigans!
Flash and the Symbiote join up with the Guardians of the Galaxy (2013, Bendis) in #14, but are officially introduced in the Free Comic Book Day GotG special. My only recommendations here are #21-23, but they're big recommendations.
Once you've read #23, you can jump right into Venom: Space Knight #1-13 (R. Thompson), which is by FAR my favourite Venom series of all time and I'm not even joking. I can't even express how much I adore this series. WOMEN. I LOVE WOMEN. Just. Just read it. And then cry that it's only 13 issues
And from there, you know how it ends if you read Venom #150. Such was the end of Flash's time as Venom, but what a wild ride it was.
now we just need to get eddie on board with a third
If you're curious about Flash's story post-resurrection (he died, if you missed that from the Cates run) you can check out my little guide here, and also the most recent Carnage series by Torunn Grønbekk. What the future holds for Flash Thompson is up in the air (as it always is with Spidey's supporting cast) but I've got to have hope!
Happy reading!

The choices in this poll were each winners of their respective categories (divided by phase and format).
Naturally, this isn’t entirely reflective of which are necessarily the best Marvel properties. Some may argue that Thor: The Dark Thor is superior to WandaVision but since Thor 2 lost to The Winter Soldier it isn’t included on this poll (please let me know if you’re the person who would argue Thor: The Dark World is better than WandaVision).

Otto lines that I'm normal about
- "My entire life I have always considered my accomplishments great, worthy of people's admiration, but time and time again I was denied, laughed at, Bullied! I tried not to care. I persevered. But even at Horizon, it was still never enough!" (S2 ep18, cloak and dagger)
- "I don't need my hand held." (S1 ep17, the Rise of Doc Ock - part 2) (I love this one bc this is the literal moment he starts his villain arc and it sets up the theme of his motives)
- "I have not allowed myself to cry in years...!" (S2 ep15, my own worst enemy)
- "thank you, Norman. And while I know that I am brilliant, I am only nineteen years old." (S1 ep17, the Rise of Doc Ock - part 2)
- (explaining why he goes by "the Octopus") "it is an expression of wry humor; playing off the first syllable of my last name and referencing the number of limbs I now possess." (S1 ep16, the Rise of Doc Ock - part 1)
- (after Spidey called him a genius) "...why do people always say that with such surprise in their voices...?" (S1 ep16, the Rise of Doc Ock - part 1)
- "um... It is my understanding that this kind of social situation requires me to say... 'You are welcome.'" (S2 ep15, My Own Worst Enemy)
- (after flash tackled him with a hug and noogie) "While I find your masculine bonding ceremonies barbaric, I nonetheless have come to appreciate the sentiment they brutishly represent." (S2 ep19, Superior)
- "your lack of injuries give me comfort. I mean-- I am glad you were not hurt." (S2 ep19, Superior)
- (with a smile) "ugh... Save your adulation for later." (S2 ep21, the Cellar)
- "Love is for Starry-eyed dreamers, Mr. Parker. It has nothing to do with science." *Falls head over heels for Anna-Maria in S2* (S1 ep5, a day in the life)
- "because I wa- *massive wince and sigh* ... I myself was incarcerated there last summer... I am afraid there is much you do not know about me." (S2 ep21, The Cellar)(man feels remorse for the first time /hj)
- "I also found that being a hero was not as glamorous or respectable as I had imagined. And yet... It was still strangely worth it." *Clears throat and changes subjects* (S2 ep22, the Road to the Goblin War)
- "the world needs Spider-Man more than it needs me." *Dies* (S2 ep26, Goblin War: Part 4) (this is actually pretty conclusive to his journey BUT I HATE THAT THEY KILLED HIM RAHHHH)

“Two Minds,” Superior Spider-Man (Vol. 3/2023), #4.

all these lives and you’ve never learned a damn thing. au where c!dream and c!sam have met many, many times in the past.
tw: mentions of violence, injury, blood, typical c!awesamdude behavior, implied c!awesamdream
---------
1)
- there’s only one, rotting book in the basement of philza’s cabin that tells the whole story. a god of creation and destruction, sharp-featured and bright-eyed, and the Warden created to contain him. the Wardens are a unique breed-- blind and single-minded, yet with a superior sense of hearing and smell, bound to darkness and skulk. their name states their simple purpose: to imprison. no human could survive in the skulk for long, but for a god, the agony is eternal. even if he escaped, what would he face? the angry and jealous pantheon that locked him away? the mortals who no longer worship? in his hands is the power of revival, and that’s exactly what he does; he recreates himself, later in the timeline, breathing air free of skulk spores for the first time in eons and praying that the future is kinder.
- (the Warden wails and screams, finding his prisoner gone. when the God Prisoner cried, it was beautiful-- when the Warden cries, his sonic shrieks destroy the city around him)
- (what is his purpose now? what name do they call him? he was yours, he was yours, he was YOURS.)
2)
- he is a farmhand, and he is gentle. a young man interested in racing, both on foot and on horseback, and he’s good at what he does. he enjoys the company of close friends who he’s known since childhood. some have moved to the city to study in big school-towns (’universities’, he thinks? ‘campuses’? is there a difference?) but he isn’t interested, and he feels claustrophobic in the crowds. his horses need him. historians discover a mural buried deep underground-- a depiction of a god of creation and destruction. sharp-featured and bright-eyed. the gods of old have locked him away, it says. yet, he appears to be standing and breathing, right there in the stables, wearing muddy boots.
-superstition leads them to send five warriors after him. among them, a childhood friend who studied in the city, mastering forgery, weaponry, and engineering. he doesn’t make it easy for them-- he’s a runner, after all. the chase is long. arduous. he’s hungry, and there’s no time to stop.
- (an arrow through his left lung. he’s gasping and retching on the ground, drowning in his own blood. in his escape, he exploded the mural. he doesn’t know why he did it. spite, he supposes. when the Goddess of Death takes him, she recognizes him, and she wonders if he’ll try again)
3)
- he is a traveler, and he is free. a giant box of oddities and antiques is bound to his back, and he visits various villages to make a few sales before moving on. he spends several days in a busy port town, befriending the locals. he hears rumors of the prince-- an intelligent but aloof sort who spends time in the marketplace, enjoying what’s left of his youth before he inherits the crown. he laughs-- you only hear about disguised princes in fairy tales. he sells a hand-painted bowl from lands far south of the ocean to a handsome man with broad shoulders.
- (’he looks like a god,’ the prince thinks. he’s not sure where the thought came from.)
- (he was yours, he was YOURS--)
- (”bring me the traveler in the green cloak,” he tells his guards, “he’ll be a fine addition to the throne room.”)
4)
- a butterfly and a spider. the spider will not bite, but the web holds strong. starvation settles.
5)
- he is young, and he is in love. he’s also a warrior, and he wears many scars on his skin, but he’s not thinking about that right now. he’s known the blacksmith for years, and he’s thinking of a new way to fluster him. hand-feed him an expensive chocolate from the neighboring town? ask the tailor down the road to make something special? even complimenting his craftsmanship seems to be enough these days. the push and pull of new romance has helped him recover from the bloodshed-- he sees the chance for a new life, and it comes from the same man who made his weapons.
- “your handiwork kept me alive on that field, you know.”
6)
- a piece of a broken mural lies underground. a young king excavates the land, and it’s tossed into the ocean with every other rock and stone. a lab is built there instead, and atop it, a mighty castle.
- "I'm basically immortal! i don't have an heir because i won't ever need one. i'll just rule forever! and look-- the villagers are living much better lives with everything i taught them, and it's only gonna get better!" the king is charming, at least. clearly passionate about his work. but...
- "so what do you need me for?" he asks. he was only passing by, after all. on the run after his own kingdom was ransacked. the defeat was heavy on his shoulders, but he still had his life, and it was all he needed.
- "i-- what? isn't it obvious?" he paces, his hands splayed. "i want you safe inside these walls. with me." (he was YOURS) "just me and you. Don't... don't make me ask twice."
7)
- the power of revival is in his hands again. he feels his heart beating in his chest. he makes plans. he designs a structure-- dark and gruesome (no human could survive in the skulk for long, but for a god--) (starvation settles) (he’s gasping and retching on the ground, drowning in his own blood).
- (praying that the future is kinder...)
- “c’mon, punz,” he says, “sam is the only one who can do this. trust me on this.”
