#Super sensitive summer slam splashdown showdown

If your fanfics were books, what would you picture each of their covers to look like?

Love you, love this, let's talk:

For Referendum I picture a black and red and silvery white 60's style overlapping prints scheme. It would be a white bg with Luka's silhouette in black, then Verrin's over top of him in red with his white mask staring at the viewer with his hand up holding a bleeding gold apple. I may mock it up to show off, it would be gloomy and stark despite how juicy the text itself is.

For A Time for Flowers it would be a greenish pinkish yellowish Pollock-esque bg with the title over top pretty much like what the original editions of The Big Sleep looked like. Pay a lil more homage to Unkie RayRay, y'know?

For Hello, My Lovely I picture a Edward Hopper style architecture/setting painting with no human figures in it. It would be a painting of the back parking lot of a 1940's office building, with the pink fins of a Packard Belvedere just visible in the bg behind a dumpster. Probably at night, with a light on in one window of the building.

And for 6S I think it would be in the same Hopper style showing the square window in Hearts' living room with a view of the backyard where there's a large Day-Glo colored plastic pool full of water and in the reflection on the window there's the tube TV playing WWE.

Speaking of Davekat Stabdad AUs, there's one I read on AO3 called he Fall of Rome by AcrylicMist! It's an AU where Dave's under the protection of Slick, where he then meets Karkat. I would't wanna spoil too much but if you think it'd be interesting, I'd check it out! :0

if i can share one as well, check out Super Sensitive Summer Slam Splashdown Showdown by Dreadmartha ( @eyeballjazz ). Its not davekat but its the best stabdad fic ive read - one of my all time favorites fics, period. its about young karkat, aradia, sollux and tavros spending a day with boxcars and deuce while slick and droog try to complete their sensitivity training. 10/10.

1,6,7 + hello my lovely (i'm thinking 7 is farewell, my lovely BUT i'm asking regardless)

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

As far as narration is concerned I always go for omniscient or semi-omniscient third, just the most comfortable in terms of tense. A true noir would more than likely be in first person but I can’t claim enough ownership over the characters for that, and more, parts of the story rely on them being separated or tonally distinct in their thoughts and narration. Doing that in a changing first person would be interesting but I think tedious after a while. The conclusion of the story has everything to do with the protags’ read on the situation being juxtaposed with their separation and that is not something I think would be as fun in first person, nor as graceful if I’m perfectly honest.

Also I wanted to get my friend to ship it early last year and so I floated the idea of a meet cute with them on twitster and that snowballed into Meet Cute and the rest.  

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

As far as fandom is concerned this one is a love story and plays on more dramatic storytelling than its predecessor Super Sensitive Summer Slam Splashdown Showdown. 6S is really a Bob’s Burgers episode while Hello is much more of an undertaking. I wanted them both to be very funny stories but there’s a good deal more thought and patience on the pages of Hello because I’m working more deliberately to make the romance make sense while in 6S you can tell I’m purely having fun with mobsters going to pluralism class. 

7: Where did the title come from?

You’re a winner, winner chicken dinner because it is absolutely from Farewell, My Lovely. I knew I wanted to rip one of Chandler’s titles and it was between that and ‘The Long Hello’ which may be a more accurate title at this point but there’s just such a mood to the ‘my lovely’ part like how can you say no?
