Hey uhh… could I maybe suggest some ZackSeph fluff in the Gold Saucer? Like helping him win little plushies and stuff? 🥺👉👈💞
Heck yeah you can, my friend!!!!! That is TOO cute!!!! 😭😭😭❤️💕
~
ZackSeph, Gold Saucer Floof: Rigged Toss!
When Zack came bounding into his office that Friday afternoon, asking him with a luminous smile if he would like to take a trip to the Gold Saucer once off-duty, Sephiroth thought the answer would be obvious. What a ludicrous question… bubbled the reflexive response in his throat. Do you have any idea as to what kind of people spend their time and money at such a nauseating establishment? Do you really think you’ll be entertained by ferris wheels and video games of lower quality than the ones you own now? Do you truly think that is an appropriate place for SOLDI…
Somehow, the question had ended up dying on Sephiroth’s tongue, dissolving away into nothingness as he stared at those jubilant blue eyes gazing sunrays into his own. Maybe it was magic; a spell, some kind hypnosis, some kind of hidden mana of Zack’s to manipulate and change his mind.
Or maybe it was just that Angeal would say the same things he so desperately wanted to.
Regardless, as they stood within the bustling prism that was the Gold Saucer, bathed in all its blinding lights and golden roars, Sephiroth couldn’t help but spare a glance at Zack; smiling, a bag of caramel popcorn in his hands, his eyes wide and glistening and full of untainted youth that stood strong even after bracing the horrors of this world…
And Sephiroth knew he made the right decision.
“Having fun?” the warrior asked sincerely, veiled in a rich black cloak both he and Zack had suggested would be best to wear, granting them a private and un-swarmed experience at the theme park.
Zack turned to him with a grin of lightning. “Heck yeah I am! It’s everything a guy could ever dream of!”
“Heh.” Sephiroth chuckled. “You have quite the dreams then, my friend.”
Zack melted a little at the comment, beaming. “Yeah? And you helped them come true! One-hundred and ten percent attained!”
“Well… I don’t know about that.” Sephiroth crossed his arms, idly wondering what the other ten percent of that achievement was going toward. “You could have always come with your other companions. People who you wouldn’t have to persuade.”
“Yeah, but where’s the fun in that?” Zack laughed, then adding with a playful elbow, “Besides! Need someone to make sure I’m being responsible. Keep me in-check.”
“Oh? Is that what I’ve been doing?”
“Sure!”
Sephiroth eyed the bagged snack in his friend’s hand—also known as his “double dessert” after a funnel cake, cheeseburger, macaroni bites, a whole other plethora of fried food wherein Sephiroth couldn’t even remember their contents, an ice cream cone, lemonade, cotton candy, and a Mako Monster energy drink.
…Hmm.
“Well.” Sephiroth gave way to another chuckle, his eyes softening to something warm and genuine as he reached out to fondly ruffle his lieutenant’s nest of spikes. He couldn’t help it. “You know I said I’d look out for you.
Zack’s expression melted even further under the gesture, words and names unspoken tying them together, a touched and loving countenance brightening the prismatic night
Sephiroth couldn’t help but mirror it.
He was about to say something further when, suddenly, Zack pulled away, blue eyes widening to gaping oceanic caverns as his arm flew up like a bullet.
“Holy herring… look at that!”
Blinking, it took a Sephiroth a few moments to figure out exactly where Zack was pointing, peering through the starry clusters of tourists and decorations to eventually find he was directing toward none other than one of those classic carnival stands across the plaza.
Or, more specially, pointing at the gargantuan stuffed prizes flaunted above it.
…
Oh no.
Ohhh n—
“C’mon, bud…!”
And he was being yanked across the square, the hood of his nunnish cloak bobbing with the motion as they raced toward the stand, two chains linked, only coming to a stop once they were directly in front of the semi-startled employee.
“Whatcha gotta do to win one of those guys?!” Zack chirped, bullet-hand shooting toward the jumbo Elfadunk, Behemoth, Mu, Tonberry, Chocobo, Moogle, Cactuar, and—
Oh.
OH.
Oh you gotta be be kidding him—
Why was there was a jumbo Sephiroth plushie?
He pulled the cloak over him further.
“S’Real simple!” the employee drawled, then gestured to the game behind him—a phalanx of colorful bottles and a load of plastic rings stacked beside them. “Just gotta land every ring you got. Don’t miss a single one; our biggest prize is yours!”
“Sweeet!” Zack chirped. “Whad’ya say, bud? Should I try it?”
“Mmm?” Sephiroth blinked, snapping away from the exaggerated feline bowling balls that were the plushies eyes. “Oh—yes. Of course.” He withdrew the Game Pass from his pocket, having bought it upon Zack’s request that he wanted the full experience, then showing it to the employee like an ID for the Honeybee Inn. A nod and hum of approval later, and Zack was being a hand an arsenal of elliptical projectiles.
“Alright…” Zack took a couple steps back, steadying himself as if ready to pitch a fastball. “Let’s do this!”
“Take your time,” Sephiroth advised, watching Zack’s eyes crackle. “Concentr—“
And he was flinging the rings, one after another, thrusting them over the bottled terrain in rapid succession—one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
Miss.
Miss.
Miss.
Miss.
Miss.
Hi—no, miss.
Miss.
“Aww, darn.” Zack signed once he was out of projectiles. “Was close.”
Sephiroth shook his head.
“Good shot,” came his (rather pitying) response, the man tossing him a smile as he reached over to collect all the ricocheted rings. “Sorry, kid. But good news! You do get one prize for skimming one of the bottles.”
“I do?” Zack’s eyes lit up. “What is it?”
“This here!” the employee chirped, bending down retrieve something from behind the stand, then straightening back up to reveal a—
Oh.
Oh for the LOVE OF—
“A Sephiroth duckie!” Zack burst into spirited laughter, happily accepting the small rubber toy offered to him. “Thank you!”
Sephiroth studied the cursed toy, a plastic cascade of silver hair racing down its coated back and slitted green orbs staring death in the eye over a cheddar-orange beak.
“That is…” Sephiroth cleared his throat. “Interesting.”
As if remembering who he was with—or not, and just finding the situation amusing—Zack turned to him with a playful smirk. “Here! You can have this one, pal. Sephiroth’s an awesome guy, y’know.”
He plopped the toy in his hand before Sephiroth could protest.
“Can I try again?” Zack chirped, his eyes gravitating back toward the highest prizes like a magnet. “I really want one of those big guys…” And then, as if really remembering who he was with—or not, and just realizing he probably didn’t have a shot—Zack turned to him with a pleading smile. “You wanna give it a go, old pal? I’d bet my bottom Gil you can get all of them blindfolded.”
The employee let out a chortle before Sephiroth could even respond.
“No offense, SOLDIER kid; I like your spirit. But I’ve worked here for four years, y’see, and never has anyone actually gotten all seven rings.”
“…Why’s that?” Sephiroth narrowed his eyes, a ghost of suspicion rising. “It’s ring toss.“
“Yeah!” Zack agreed. “I mean… it’s skill, right?”
The man rested his elbow on the counter, leaning in closer. “Look. You seem like a respectable duo, right, and I don’t want you wasting your time here. So just believe me when I say it ain’t gonna happen.
“But—“
“It’s intentional, kid. Trust me.”
By now, Sephiroth’s eyes had narrowed to slits, his suspicion all but confirmed in a matter of seconds. What was this now? The game was rigged? Yes, he expected a claw machine to have such cruelty… But a ring toss game? An activity meant to test and reward one’s patience and concentration? An activity that was luring innocent hearts—his best friend—in with their wondrous, tantalizing prizes…? And his face was representing this treason?!
He squeezed the ducky so hard that it squeaked.
“Aww… Well, I guess we can always—“
“Let me try,” Sephiroth said suddenly; hard, focused, indisputable.
The man’s eyes widened. “Pal. Did you not just hear me…—?”
“Oh, I heard you.” The velvet voice had grown cold, almost cunning. “And I would like to test your little game.”
“Seph..?” Zack blinked, almost in awe. “What are you…?”
“Well, ‘suppose I can’t stop ya,” the employee (gladly) shrugged, gladly reaching behind his back to hand him the stack of rings. “Got plenty of rubber duckies in the stash.”
…
Alright.
That. Was. It.
Feline eyes constricted to needles as Sephiroth accepted the projectiles, taking several steps back, feeling the cheap plastic (wider than the necks, easily bounced), the man’s lips pulling back into a vague sheer and snarl.
“You see…” he said slowly, purposefully. “My friend here wanted one of your plushies. Very badly. And i made a vow very long ago to protect him—from monsters. From the evils of this world. And I do not appreciate him being manipulated in such a manner.”
Neither the employee or Zack had a chance to respond before the first ring had been thrown.
…
One.
Narrowing his eyes, focusing, Sephiroth threw the next projectile.
Two.
And again, and again, and again.
Three; four; five; six—
And he threw the last ring, calculated and perfect.
…
Seven.
The emplyee’s eyes blew to saucers.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.
…
And, yes.
Hit.
A perfect score; all seven landed; flawlessly rung the necks of seven bottles, all in a neat duck row. Sephiroth relaxed from his concentrated state as Zack let out a cheer, rushing over to his side and squeezing him with all the love and strength that a caffeinated, sugar-fueled SOLDIER could give.
“Yes..! Yes! That’s my bud! That’s my bud!!!” he cheered. “Woooooooooooooooooo! Woooooooooooooo! You’re the best you’re the best you’re the BEST! I love you I love I love you, man!!” And he pulled back, smiling sunbeams at his friend, his eyes wide and glistening and youthful…
And Sephiroth was smiling right back at him.
He was happy, after all.
Because Zack was too.
“Now…” Sephiroth said warmly, unable to mask the satisfaction in his voice. “Which one would you like?”
His smile blinding, Zack turned around, blue eyes tracing all the options once more.
“Hmmm… I’ll take the Behemoth!”
Meanwhile, the employee had become almost completely paralyzed; mouth ajar, eyes cavernous, skin slightly discolored. And it was in that moment when he turned around, his expression unchanging, reaching up to grab the jumbo Behemoth from above, that Sephiroth felt a sense of victory and justice unlike anything he had ever felt before.
He never smirked so hard as when the man relinquished Zack’s selected prize to its new and rightful owner.
“Yessss! Thank you…!” Zack took the plushie into his arms, its beastly frame nearly grazing the ground. “He’s so cute! Wait ‘till Aer sees this…”
It was only moments later that they were leaving that devilish stand behind, one plushie and one rubber duck less, off into the blinding wilderness that was the rest of the night to come. More food was consumed; arcade games were played; a ferris wheel was ridden up into the starlit sky, both SOLDIERs smushed to the corner in favor of their monstrous companion.
And when they returned home that night, Zack having fallen asleep on the train, Sephiroth carried his friend all the way back from the station.
It’s alright, Angeal… the warrior mumbled as he set Zack down on his couch, reaching to drape a blanket over his cherished companion. I think he had a good day.

FABril Day 1 - Crush
G, 2103 words, The triplets crush on Félix.
--
The triplets sat on the Ortizes’ wall, facing the big construction site while they did — as Pepa called it — “boywatching”. A few guys their age and up had been asked to lend a helping hand with the construction of the new church. The town was growing exponentionally in both resources and population and the little chapel that had been hastily built when the Encanto first formed hadn’t sufficed for years.
Naturally, Bruno was looking at boys along with Pepa and Juli, because why wouldn’t he?
The triplets were fourteen and busy as anything with their miracles. They were old enough that Mamá didn’t always have to manage them together anymore. Julieta had been standing with the other merchants at the plaza to give away her little care packages, and Pepa and Bruno joined her on their breaks. Pepa never had much to do this time of the season except be sunny, and Bruno was glad to be away from Ma and her worried hovering for a little while.
(Though he appreciated that she still sat in on the visions. They had been getting weirder and worse and she worried about them, so that’s why it didn’t make Bruno feel too guilty for indulging in her affection a little bit longer. Still, a guy had to have his private moments away from his mami. Albeit with his sisters.)
“Ugh, he doesn’t even know I exist!” Julieta exploded, burying her face into her hands.
Félix had just walked past them, grinning and calling out a casual “hey, Bruno, ladies.” The air around them instantly heated up as Pepa stared with half-lidded eyes, cocking her head ponderously.
It was unanimous to anyone with eyes that Félix was a dreamboat, even if Pepa always feigned disinterest by complaining about how annoying he was. (In later years, this would only inflame her fixation on him.) He was two years older than them and way out of their league. He had stocky arms and a smile that could fight Pepa’s sunrays for attention, and as he carried a wheelbarrow packed with sandbags past them they could clearly see his muscles bulge from the effort.
It took Bruno a belayed second to wiggle his fingers back at him, and then he realized he could totally have hammed it up and pulled out one of his Don Juan-type characters to charm him--
No, too much. Too much, Bruno. That’ll never work.
“What are you talking about?” he said to Julieta, dopey smile still on his face as he watched Félix go.
“Of course he knows who you are!” Pepa added. “Duh, we’re the Madrigals.” She gestured over the three of them because it was obvious. They were the bearers of the miracle. And although Félix rarely got into accidents, he wasn’t exactly a stranger to Julieta’s magic.
Julieta stared abashedly in front of her. “I know that, but- ugh!” She threw her head down between her knees.
It was a bit surprising that she had such strong feelings for him. Bruno suspected she was just playing along, that she wasn’t really into Félix like he and Pepa were. That she just wanted to hang out with her siblings. He didn’t mind the dramatics, though.
Bruno kicked his feet. “Well, if he doesn’t know who you are it’ll leave more chance for us.”
“Oh, I’m not interested.” Pepa flicked her long frizzy hair over her shoulder. “I’m going to ask José out.”
“Which one?”
“Martinez.”
“Wow, that’s a familiar last name. I wonder who you’re trying to make jealous with that.”
She pouted. A little cloud floated over her head for a moment, but it cleared up when her expression did, suddenly struck by a fantasy. “I could have them fight over me.” She clutched her chest. “Oh, wouldn’t that be the talk of the town?”
“Oh, oh, oh!” Bruno chimed in. “A battle of life and death between cousins. José wins your hand, which leaves Félix wounded and in the care of your handsome brother who’s always been more understanding of him and knows what he deserves and gives him twice the attention you would.”
Julieta piped up, “If anyone is going to nurse him back to health, it’s me!”
“Oh, right!” That was a good fantasy too. “Yes…Yes! And that’s the moment he truly notices you! I’m standing in the doorway — I see the two of you right as I’m about to confess my feelings to him, but I realize he’s not in love with me. He’s in love with you. So I nobly walk away and let you guys follow your hearts instead.”
--
But in reality there was no jealousy. There was no battle. There was no kneeling next to a sickbed as either Julieta or Bruno dabbed blood or sweat away from Félix’s forehead and, in this intimacy, dared to kiss his lips with surprise bravery.
A boy arrived in the Encanto like a mirage. The first people who spotted him and his parents had to squint to make sure they didn’t recognize them since everybody knew everybody in an isolated town like theirs, but when it was established that they really must be strangers, they were quickly taken in.
They were refugees like anyone else, but unfamiliar as the trio was, the town didn’t quite trust them yet. Agustín, for example, hadn’t been invited to help out on the cathedral with the other boys until it was well near finished, and when the triplets’ quince came around, Mamá did not allow him to dance with Julieta, who’d asked Bruno — who had become fast friends with Agustín — to invite him as her chaperone. Mamá didn’t like, or rather, didn’t trust, how comically clumsy he was, the exact reason Julieta had become so well acquainted with him (and as a result completely lost eyes for Félix).
Agustín was also tall, slender and friendly, and Bruno wondered why he again liked the same boy his sister liked. It wasn’t like he’d even lost Félix out of his periphery yet.
Wasn’t that greedy of him? That he’d like to maybe reach around their shoulders and hold hands with both boys too. Félix, Pepa, him in the middle, Julieta, Agustín.
“Eh, stupid. Fantasies,” he’d dismiss himself, never quite shaking off that happy ending.
--
Félix danced with Pepa on their quinceañera and that was it for them.
Bruno stood next to Mamá, clutching her black mourning shroud as green overtook his vision and his body went rigid with alarm. Seeing the slender arms of an older Pepa around Félix’s broad waist, moving him however she wanted because he yielded so easily for her; seeing Félix pull up a wide umbrella big enough to shield both of them from Pepa’s stormy cloud as she cried against his shoulder; seeing them kiss.
Mamá quickly and effortlessly disappeared him from the crowd of attendants before anyone could notice his impromptu vision. Sand stirred precariously around his feet, his eyes wide and frightening.
“Querido, sit down.” She placed him on the single chair at the food-bedecked table of the dining room, chairs placed elsewhere in Casita for the party. The music was dampened just enough to put the two of them in a little bubble. Mamá’s hand cupped his cheek. “Are you alright?”
The vision had gone. Bruno slumped, hands hanging between his knees, and he nodded.
“What was it? Your expression- ay, Bruno, why now?” She said this last part more to herself than him, knuckle to her lip as she thought of its significance, or importance thereof, with a deep frown.
“No, it was a good one, Mami,” he stopped her from worrying. He noticed he was still clutching her shroud like a lifeline and let go.
“Are you sure?” Her voice was sharp.
“Yeah. I’m sorry. I can’t tell you about it yet, but you’ll like it. It’s not going to happen for a while.”
Relief washed over her in a full-body shudder. “Oh… Thank you, Brunito.”
“Go back to them, okay?” He waved at the party-goers. “I’m alright. Knock on wood.” He rapped his knuckles three times against the table.
“Gracias a dios, I will.” She knocked as well, then took his face in her hands and kissed his forehead. “Eat something, alright, mijo? Then come back. We’ll talk about your vision tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
She adjusted her shroud and rejoined the party, hands jubilantly up in the air as she cheered for her daughters. Like the upsetting diversion had never happened.
When she was out of sight, Bruno slid off the table, pushing his wrists against his stinging eyes, keeping the tears at bay.
He wasn’t crying. He could never betray Pepa by being jealous of her. If he wanted Félix to come into the dining room, find him in a mess, and caress his tears away with soft sturdy words like he one day would for Pepa, that was just a separate feeling.
It wasn’t until Julieta descended from the courtyard — frantically looking around for her brother whom she knew wasn’t comfortable at big parties, especially when he had nothing to perform, a role to play, and who’d gotten more and more prone to strange meltdowns — that Bruno realized Casita had gently moved him to a more secluded space. Julieta found him tucked behind a flower pot between the corner and a cabinet, protected from stray guests spotting him. Casita moved the pot out of the way for Julieta, who squeezed herself in next to Bruno and asked what was the matter.
Her brows were furrowed and he could tell she was trying to temper her anger that she had to take a break from her own party to comfort him. But she still looked for him.
He laid his head on her shoulder.
“I’m always just going to have you,” he said softly, still kind of hoping it’d be Félix coming to get him. Or even his friend Agustín (who’d been invited, just not to act out the traditions).
“Obviously I’m missing something here or else you wouldn’t say something as mean as that,” Julieta said a tad offended, squeezing his shoulders. The annoyance she had so far kept in check came out sharp.
He slapped his face with his hands. “I always say it wrong…”
“Bruno, just calm down, okay? What happened?” She breathed in through her nose, calming herself. “Did you have a vision?”
She sounded like their mother, but unlike with Mamá he could actually share his feelings with his sister.
“Yeah,” he said. “Félix isn’t going to like me back.”
“Oh…”
He rubbed his eyes, then balled his fists around his knees. “I’m so stupid. Nobody in the Encanto is like me, I know that. I’m just weirdo freak Bruno. But I never even tried with him, you know? And now I’ve ruined it. I’m such a coward.”
“You’re not a coward, Bruno.” She bit her lip and frowned. “And you’re not a freak. You can try with other boys, maybe.”
Bruno thought of Agustín and the way Julieta sometimes looked at him, and decided he really couldn’t. “...I don’t want to make it awkward.”
“But you won’t know until you try-” The two triplets considered that for a second. “Sorry. You could know, of course.”
What was the point of trying if Bruno could toss his sand and burn incense like Mamá showed him and see for himself what he wasn’t brave enough to do? Julieta had a point, but he just wasn’t like that. He wanted to be certain first.
“No, don’t be. I’m just…being difficult again.”
She had no reply to that. “Bruno, can I be honest?”
“Yes. Always.”
“I don’t know how to help you with this.”
“That’s okay,” he said lightly. As if she could pull out clear-cut advice for every situation hidden in her pockets. That’d be the real miracle.
“And…And I really just wanna go back to the party.”
“Yeah, of course.”
“With you.”
The thing about having feelings at the age of fourteen is that, in most cases, those feelings will pass when they aren’t nurtured. On Julieta’s signal — a slight nod towards him and Pepa as they rejoined the dance court — Bruno was reminded of their plan and pulled out his firecrackers, disrupting the careful traditional dancing of their friends and their dance partners until everyone, guests and hosts, was roped into la hora loca craziness. He hugged Félix, he hopped in circles with Agustín. Bruno cried out and danced with his sisters and even goaded Mamá into a wild dance as he shook every bad feeling about the prophecy away.
Because all it should’ve been was exciting.

Etie's Workout

After Sombron's defeat, Elyos rejoiced in its newfound peace. Lythos, Firene, Brodia, Solm, and even the returning land of Gradlon all united under a non-aggression pact. With the end of the war, the age of hope and rebuilding the world back to normal had begun. The entire continent became busy with efforts of fixing the fragments left by the conflict. Many of the Divine Dragon's companions soon had to part ways. The monarchs returned to rule their sovereign lands, ensuring that relations with each nation would heal and remain firm. Of course their retainers and knights would return their sides. Others would return to their families, some would travel the world, and the rest went back to enjoying a normal life. The once populated Somniel returned to being a tranquil place for the Divine Dragon. The ruckus of Timerra, Merrin, & Panette's singing was replaced with silence. As was Pandreo's constant howling as returned he to his church. Even the silent gaze of Louis was sorely missed at the Somniel. The Divine Dragon and their stewards' duties mostly had them situated at the newly rebuilt palace of Lythos, so there was little need to return to the Somniel, yet it was still open & welcome to those who had stayed there during the Divine Dragon's journey to expelling the evil Sombron.
It was at this day that I found myself returning to the place where I once enjoyed tea with the likes of Celine & her vassal Chloe. The place where Seadall & Kagetsu read my fortunes. I was overcome with a feeling of yearning for days gone by, then immediately feeling guilty that I would selfishly wish to return to a time where there was war, constant battles, and when the Somniel was full of people.
And yet it seems desire actually became reality. From the plaza I could hear a faint noise coming from somewhere distant. It couldn't have been one of the animals at the stables as they were all either adopted or joined the Divine Dragon at Lythos. Even the creature that follows the Divine Dragon around doesn't show themself unless the Divine Dragon is around. To sate my curiosity, I decide to investigate the sound. As I got closer, I noticed that I was heading in the direction of the training yard, and that I could hear it more clearly. It was familiar and no animal. It was a person grunting, none other than Etie, a knight of Prince Alfred of Firene. But more important than that, she's a comrade, someone I could trust with my life.
I do admit, seeing her doing sit-ups like she used to do when we were constantly traveling made my heart beat out of rhythm. She was facing away from me, so she didn't see me yet, also it would have been awkward as she was also wearing her usual clothes and not the workout garments. I wondered why she was wearing that iconic frilly yellow-ish midriff blouse, though I must admit that I didn't mind seeing her in action. Her sweaty abs glistening against the sunlight-- Oh, I really must have gotten carried away with staring because I lost track of what I was supposed to do. Etie did eventually see me, throwing her reps. Getting up quickly, she lets out a winded "It's you!"
It felt really good to see her, and next thing I knew she rushed at me and gave a tight hug. For someone almost a foot shorter than me, I could feel her practically lifting me off the ground before she lets go. I did like the embrace though, she hugged me like how I would want to hug someone I care about, if that makes any sense. Maybe it was the sunrays causing me to hover my hand and arm slightly above my eyes, but I could have sworn at that moment when she let go, Etie was blushing. "It's good to see you! Wait-- What are you doing here?" She asks, to which I swiftly respond with "I could ask you the same thing!"
I could see it in here eyes that she felt the same thing I felt. Etie was one of my closest friends during our journey with the Divine One. After the emblems disappeared, it felt just as lonely knowing the fact that Etie had to return to Firene to serve her Prince. I'm sure Alfred & Boucheron would have been great company for her but I wanted to be there for her too. I wasn't native to Firene, neither am I a knight there. Perhaps that's why I decided to return to the Somniel. I was fueled with purpose to fight alongside the Divine Dragon. Now that peace had returned, I felt like I had served my goal. I didn't just come back to reminisce on old times, but to return to a place where I was driven to achieve something. Maybe I'd be inspired to pursue a new goal again! That would probably be too long to say to someone I hadn't been in contact with for a while, so I just followed up with "I don't know, I just missed this old place."
"Huh, I didn't take you for the sentimental type. Me, I missed working out here! Firene's been really noisy lately with all the parties & celebrating us beating Sombron. So I wanted to go somewhere quiet to train." Etie explains to me, albeit panting as she speaks. "Woops! looks like I certainly interrupted that. Sorry to ruin your quiet training day." I was pretty sure I wasn't really bothering Etie, but honestly I just wanted to tease her. "What no! I don't mind you here." she retorts. "The Divine One used to stare at us training. Remember?" bending her arms and anchoring her hands on her hips in a defensive stance. Etie didn't sound as fatigued as she was earlier. Knowing how intense her workouts usually are, it was quite impressive.
Thinking back, I definitely remember that time. Me, Boucheron, Etie, Prince Alfred, and even little Jean were doing squats at the very training yard we were standing on right now. The Divine One would always stop by to either watch or join in exercises, mostly they'd just stare at us. "That Divine Dragon, always running around and watching out for us. I don't know if they did that cause they cared or if he just thought we'd be too chaotic." I said to Etie. "Wha-- Us!? Chaotic? Why I'd never?" Her voice wavered in denial.
"I'm pretty sure you almost started a fight with Goldmary over a potato." A memory that vividly clouded my mind as soon as she said she'd never. "THAT WAS MINE! THAT POTATO THIEF JUST TOOK IT WITHOUT ASKING AND ATE IT! SHE---" she blew her bangs to the side of her face, clearly showing her furrowed brows. Yet despite the face she was making, I found her adorable. I always had thought she was cute despite her... Intenseness.
I was still curious why she was working out with her regular clothing, though I did notice the ribbon on her head was crooked. The sight of it lured me to reach out and adjust it properly. I didn't realize I was oblivious to the fact that Etie stopped dead on her tracks mid-sentence. She was willing herself not to look at my face as I had gotten really close to her face. Her cheeks burned red, as did mine when I finally wised up to what I had inadvertently done. We had closed the distance to each other as if fate or an unseen force was pushing us towards each other. Etie, with her head sunken and eyesight glued to the floor couldn't even mutter a single word. Where was the loud and brash athlete from earlier? Her forehead makes contact with my chest, not completely buried but a light touch as if she was beckoning me to come and embrace her. Funny, if only she knew what I knew. No, what I always had known especially during those moments where corrupted would try assault her and I'd come in and shield her from the blows, or when she'd snipe out enemies who'd almost snuff me out from behind - that I had always had a warm yet soft spot for her. There is no one on earth I would trust in my life. And at that moment, there was no one who I wanted to be alone in that serene Somniel with except her. I didn't even mind that she & her outfit was completely drenched in sweat from her workout, which reminded me... "Why were you working out in your battle clothing by the way?" "So I can be used to fighting with this on-- no, actually... I come here every now and then, hoping to see you again. I-- I missed you." Her face was now fully buried on my torso. Despite how muffled she sounded, I could clearly hear what Etie said. It reminded me of the last time we saw each other, when the Divine Dragon ascended the throne. We arrived that day to celebrate, but left going our separate ways. I recalled how I was tasked with bringing Anna back to her family at Elusia, which believe me was one crazy experience that maybe I'll someday tell, and Etie was tasked with bringing Jean back to his family at Firene. Me and Etie, going to opposite sides of the map. I remember wanting to look back but choosing not to glance over my shoulders. I regret not doing it because maybe she was waiting for me to look at her. However the map of Elyos is a ring, a circle, and ultimately me and Etie found ourselves where we both started - at the Somniel, back at the yard where we'd overwork ourselves until our bodies gave in, hopelessly trying to bulk up. When she said she uttered that she missed me, it felt like our last meeting. Except this time I was ready to face her. "I missed you too" I rested my right hand on her bright auburn hair, though it probably messed up her ribbon again.
"This seems like a good time for a jog! I'll just..." in that moment, when she said that and turned her back, ready to run - I instinctively grabbed her arm with a tight grip, but not enough to to inflict pain on someone I cared about. In those few seconds, I was overthinking. What if this was too much for Etie and she drifts away from me? Would she pull further and further from me no matter what I said? It felt like my mind was thinking a billion scenarios in that short instant, and I didn't know what would be the right thing to say.
I tugged her arm lightly and tried to say something, anything. Before I could even form a word, Etie wrenched my gambeson with her other hand like she wanted to rip it off of me. I could not even react as my mind blanked when her lips pressed against mine. Whatever strength I had to yank her to my direction softened. She had brought herself closer to kiss me, and I was paralyzed. Deep down inside, contentment was spreading within and all I could do to express it was to kiss her back the way that she would hopefully love to be kissed. Her hand, still clenching my gambeson, pushes me against the stone wall of the training yard. You know, I imagined I would be the one pinning her against the wall, but I didn't mind this one bit. Feeling Etie's full weight pressed against me while being kissed and backed into a corner, I moaned with our mouths still stuck together. She definitely noticed that because she started kissing more aggressively. Two can play at that game. I grabbed Etie and turned sideways, pinning her against the wall this time. This time I was the one who was stealing a shameless moan from the other. We were both turned on being chest to chest to one another. My hands & fingers dance along from her shoulders then to her waist. I could feel her hard abs even from the sides. She was the real deal, a body chiseled like a warrior goddess. Then I felt Etie bite my lower lip, catching me off guard. I tilt my head away to see that smug grin on her face. All I could think of was a way to get back at her for that.
When my tongue & mouth touched her neck, she exhales, breath misting away. I stay buried there until I went back to pressing my lips to her. Her shakey arms hook around my neck as she misses kissing me too. We pull away for a moment to meet each other eye to eye, the way we looked at each other changed. There was more of an unexpected warmth. We were magnetized to the sight of one another.
"Come home to Firene with me." Etie's eyes still glued to mine, I could have sworn they were sparkling at me. When she requested that, my mind quickly returned to reality. Etie was a royal knight of Firene, and the daughter of a marquis. I am nobody, I'm not even from Firene. I don't think Alfred or Princess Celine would bat an eye. Queen Eve and all those other nobles might though. I don't want to make life harder for Etie. Perhaps our romance would just be this one special moment at the Somniel, but before I could even voice a concern--
"Don't you dare think of having second thoughts now. We kissed. I... I want you with me. I don't care what anyone else thinks, if anyone has a problem with you at home, then they'll have to deal with me!" She reminded me of just what I admired so much about her. It wasn't just the attraction or the bond we've built, but Etie is someone who truly inspires me to be strong inside & out. And with that, my mind was set. I found what I came to the Somniel for. Wherever Etie goes, I go.
"You are the one I feel closest too. Of course I'll go with you!" My arm, wrapped around her waist and back. I fell closer to her to give her another kiss. Her lips did not move, here eyes remained open. "Did I say something wrong?" "No, not at all" Now she falls closer to me to give me another embrace. I wanted that hug to never end. With a single finger, I tilt her head up from the chin. Looking at her eye to eye, I could tell she reciprocated what I felt when I gazed upon her. It was like those moments when war raged on, the chaos of battlefields, and when I was at my most lost - I'd look for her. Knowing Etie was still alive during a battle always calmed my nerves. Now that we saw each other for how we truly feel, I felt content.

Skin & Scale (Part 23)
Azula purses her lips and traces her fingers over the dragon’s teeth stone. That is what the Sun Warriors have been calling it when teaching her about it. It will, apparently, stay the same size when she transforms–a protective measure. The smaller it is, the harder it is to find and steal away from her.
“If they take the stone from you while you are in dragon form, you will lose the ability to transform back into a human.” Mizumi cautions her. “So guard it carefully.”
“And if it is stolen from me when in human form?” She eyes the crystal. It is quite large and the way it pokes through her skin is anything but subtle.
“It will trigger an immediate dragon transformation. That stone is what keeps you human in a physical sense.”
Azula holds her hand to her chest.
“It is a good thing, believe me.” She pauses. “To steal the dragon’s teeth stone, a person would have to carve it out of you. At which point, the dragon transformation will save your life.” Azula tilts her head and Mizume clarifies, “a large, devastating wound on your human form is a papercut to your dragon body.”
Azula nods.
“Which brings me to lesson two. If you sustain even a minor injury as a dragon, do not switch back to your human form until it is decently healed. Just as a large wound is a papercut to your dragon body, a small scrape to your dragon knees can cover the entirety of your human legs. If you sustain an injury like that...” She points to the scar on Azula’s neck. “As a dragon you will die if you transform back into a human too early.”
Azula swallows. “Yes, I suppose that that does make sense.”
“So if someone does steal that jewel from your human wrist, do not resist the transformation. It will be agonizing–forced and sudden transformations are–but it will keep you from bleeding out.”
Azula nods again. “I won’t let it be stolen.” She won’t let anyone else steal anything else from her ever again.
“Wonderful, I’ll pass you along to your parents so that your dragon lessons can begin.” Such has been the nature of her days as of late; they begin with lessons from Chief Arizu about Sun Warrior history and then she sees Mizume for dragon history and matters concerning dragon artifacts, habits, and general biology. And after that she is sent off to find her parents who teach her how to be a dragon hands on, flying lessons, fire breathing, how to balance and move her body, how to hunt, and the like.
She bids the woman a good day and makes her way over to where Ran and Shaw lounge, basking in the sunrays.
The first time hadn’t been terribly hard. Admittedly, she hadn’t exactly been eager to transform back into a dragon. They had promised her that it would be nothing like the very first time she’d transformed. But, spirits, she couldn’t take her mind off of it. Couldn’t steer her mind away from a very vivid stinging and tearing sensation. Away from snapping, elongating bones. She had shuddered, had gritted her teeth and taken a deep breath or two. Sometimes, if she thinks about it too much, she can still feel it as though she is being torn up anew.
But that is coming to pass.
These sensations are being driven out by new ones.
Azula stands herself at the very of the plaza, takes a moment to savor the sun on her cheeks, and coaxes the transformation. Waves of fire ripple down her arms, this is how it always starts. It doesn’t burn nor sear. It trails tickling, tingling kisses all over her body. Kisses that beckon scales to breakout upon her skin. The forming of scales always comes first. The lengthening of her human body comes second. It is very brief, for a moment her human body stands taller than a lot of the smaller buildings. It is easier this way, she isn’t quite literally crawling out of her own skin. She supposes that it is a touch uncomfortable, but it is more akin to the soreness of a challenging workout. This way, her dragon body takes shape without breaking her human body. It is much faster too, over before she can really process it in full. She had bled a little at first, mostly from her fingertips and gums. Approximately five transformations she completes her transformation without losing a drop.
She wanders her way over to mother and father.
Father approaches her first, his claws tug at her wings. Decently disgruntled, she resists his pulling with a low growl. If this aggravates father, he doesn’t show it. In fact he is perfectly content to continue his tugging until he requests, “give your wings a little flap for me.”
He backs away and gives her room to do so. She shakes them out and tucks them back in place.
“Are you ready to fly, Azula?” Shaw asks.
“Because your wings are.” Ran declares.
“How can you be certain?” She asks.
“They are strong enough to resist a few good tugs.”
So that’s what it was then, he had been testing for strength. “Shouldn’t we test for endurance too.”
“We won’t be taking you a long distance, yet.” Shaw replies. “And you won’t be flying all that high either.”
“You’ll soar high enough to know what a real fly feels like but low enough that you’ll only be bruised and scraped if your wings give out mid flight.” Ran adds.
She supposes that, that is no different than the superficial burns, cuts, and bruises from firebending practices gone amiss.
“Do you remember how to take off?” Shaw asks.
Azula nods. She raises and flexes her wings before giving them a few downward flaps. When she feels that particular semi-weightlessness, she kicks off of the ground with her feet. This time she is able to flap her wings hard enough and position her body correctly enough to hold herself suspended in the air.
Mother and father encourage to hold herself in place for several minutes before joining her in the air. “Today, we will show you how to fly straight and fast and how to perform basic turns.” Shaw says as she leads her between the buildings.
“After you master that we will teach you slightly more complex maneuvers like swoops and dives. And from there we will teach you to fly while carrying objects or people.”
“Okay.”
Is she nervous? Is she excited? She must be one of the two or both because her stomach is fluttering again. The tickle intensifies with every foot she ascends. She climbs higher and higher until she feels father’s hand pushing her back down. “Not so high.” He reminds her.
It is a strange feeling really, to feel the pressure of the wind against her beating wings, to feel the drag created by her spines, the fluttering of her whiskers. Mother tells her how to use her tail to change directions while father reminds her to keep her focus on beating her wings throughout, the way that they had when practicing on the ground.
It had taken her quite some time to master coordinating wing beats with tail flicks. She finds that it comes easier now but every now and again, mother has to help her correct a hiccup brought about by a miss timed tail flick.
All in all, with the wind skating over her scales and fluttering her spines, she feels free. Up here no one can reach her. No one can hurt her. No one can steal her away. It is nothing like learning to firebend, likely it is most comparable to learning to airbend. But, spirits, it holds the same feeling of accomplishment when she manages to mirror the way that father maneuvers around the treetops.
He guides her through weaving in and out of them while mother shows her how to flap her wings in tighter spaces–this is more of an impromptu lesson. One that mother is pleased to see her master with ease.
“You’re a natural.” Father comments just as Ozai always had. She tries not to think about that. Not now, not when she is feeling so elated. But it sits there in her mind waiting for her to land. Waiting for her to fold her wings for the day, reclaim her human body, and pull the covers up to her chin. She will think about it as she lies awake. Think about how she had been Ozai’s little prodigy. Think about how Ran is pleased with her in just the same way, for how quickly she has picked up on flying.
At least Ran doesn’t berate her when she misses a wing beat or when she begins her weaving maneuver just a little too late resulting in her colliding with a tree. This is when mother decided to call it a day. Not because she was disappointed but because she was rather adamant that Azula’s wings were growing tired. “Another important thing to keep in mind; you should always be aware of how much energy you have left. Make sure that you reserve enough for the return trip.”
It is such a simple and obvious thing. But she had been so excited that she hadn’t thought of that.
“Do you have enough energy to fly yourself back?” Ran asks.
She is fairly certain that she does. So she nods.
“Give yourself a little break, enjoy the forest and the sunlight and then we’ll head back.”
Azula stretches herself out on the forest floor and rests her head on her hands. She swishes her tail about as she watches the tree frogs leap and catch flies. It is quite pleasant to listen to the rustle of palm fronds and the gentle lapping of a nearby stream. Mother and father curl up next to her. Ran strokes her spines and Shaw tenderly licks her forehead clean. Sometimes she forgets that, that is how dragon parents bond with their young. She can’t say that it is unpleasant, but it is certainly a strange feeling. Mother is so affectionate with her. And that is stranger still.
The sun kisses her scales in a way most delightful and the jungle smells divine. It smells fresh and new and clean, empty of the smoke and smog of the factories outskirting Caldera City. She could fall asleep here.
She wonders just how many moments like this have been stolen from her.
And she mourns these moments that never happened.

apartment; vito russo
location: east sotiris. starfleet housing. corner unit. neighbor: sasha soverall not pictured: energy-saving colored windows made from fruit and veggie waste at the insistence of the Leoran council
All of the furniture in Vito’s apartment was purchased from the same Leoran shop in Plaza de Sotiris shortly after his arrival on Leora. The pieces matched and fit the minimal style he prefers, which made the decision rather easy. The rug in his living area and the various decorations were purchased during the same trip, a habit he picked up ‘set dressing’ the spaces he lived in when he was on missions. Art decorates his walls, purchased from Solar Flare gallery, but the pieces themselves are rather generic.
Notably, there is not a single picture of the resident (or anyone else, for that matter) within the entire space. Any electronics supplied by Starfleet have been removed and replaced with the upgraded versions (kitchen gadgets, phone chargers, etc.), but that’s about it for personalization. Even though the apartment provides an amazing amount of natural light, Vito defies the architect’s intentions by covering them all with black-out curtains that stay permanently drawn to ward off the local star’s sunrays. And possible spies or snipers.
At any given time, one can enter this apartment and be met with a spotless interior. The upgraded cleaning robot Russo purchased a month into his stay in Sotiris makes sure the floors are up to his standard, but the well-made bed and sparkling countertops are due to Vito’s own efforts. He found out long ago that the routine of maintaining a space provides the beastkin with a sense of comfort and familiarity even if he’s only destined to stay in a space for a few weeks.

gives her a four leaf clover since shes here. he couldn't sleep and snuck out of the hospital to pick some clovers at the garden behind.
“Talking to a songbird yesterday, flew me to a past not far away..” Bunches of silver glimmered in the late afternoon sunrays as she was seated on one of the concrete benches in the hospital's “plaza.” She hummed to herself, knitting away at older yarn balls that hadn’t been used in years. She reasoned that with the holiday season around the corner, it would’ve been best to start using old materials before they could’ve gotten any older. Besides that, it was an excuse to keep away from her mundane lifestyle and busy schedule.
Hooking her pinky into the product, she grumbled under her breath, unamused by how unshapely the sleeve was becoming. She nipped at the end of the light blue yarn, loosening it more as her finger wasn’t doing any better. Wrinkling her nose, she rested down her sewing needles and flattened out the sleeve on her lap.
A petal of four, a sign of luck, was flashed before her eyes. The older woman lifted her chin, her fussing on pause. She tilted her head, processing as to whom the hand belonged to. That was until she spotted the bleached tips of the gifter’s hair.
She smiled softly, her head still tilted with curiosity. “Kenma? Is everything alright? The nurses said you were resting.” However, it seemed that his expression was indicating to her that he should’ve been. It wasn’t in her place to make comments; she was already uncomfortable as is in the corridors and patient rooms.
“Oh, thank you--” Sophie noticed the clover nudged in her direction as she kept blankly staring at him. The British woman nodded her head, examining the clover as she held it up against her palm.
“Did you get this from the garden? We could go looking for more. Or, do you just want to sit by me and listen to the birds? They’ve been singing wonderfully.”

Lucio Office Building in Lille
15 Dec 2021
Design: Barbarito Bancel Architectes
Location: Lille, Hauts-de-France, France
The Lucio project is located in Lille, in the new developing area situated on the banks of the Deûle within EuraTechnologies – the new economic hub dedicated to information and communication technology, which brings together many local and foreign start-ups. The project site is open and complex, integrates into a plural public space, at various scales.
Lucio Office Building
It opens to the “Cour de Bretagne”, the large entry plaza of the new EuraTechnologies economic hub and faces “Le Blan-Lafont”. The “Blan-Lafont”, dominated by its Bell Tower, is the main building of this new urban project. It represents the heritage of the past thread mills of Lille and symbolizes the new economic restructuration. In its core, the project site regains a smaller scale that includes a square in front of the existing brick building. The project consists of an office space of 1 465 sqm, enclosed in a transparent volume that reveals the depth of the block. Flexible workspaces inside a low-consumption building have been created.
The four building facades are exposed to the sun most of the day, with no immediate building proximity. This exceptional situation offers a large view to the surrounding landscape and public areas, as well as noticeable illumination throughout the day to the interior spaces. However, this significant solar intake is controlled to comply with the current energy requirements.
To this end, Barbarito Bancel architects created an original composition of facades, a vertical glass louver facade positioned on a concrete base. This evanescent plane plays with the fragmented reflections of its surrounding, made of brick, concrete and birch, and create deep visual perspectives into the permeable heart of the project site. The vertical orientation of the glass louvers is chosen to protect from the southern sunrays and provide large visual perspectives.
For the main facades – southwest and northwest – the project outlines the idea of a double skin that naturally creates a transparent and luminous curtain wall while protecting from the sunrays. The secondary southeast and northeast facades are composed of single walls and alternate surfaces of opaque polished aluminium and glass surfaces that follow the overall geometry of the inclined glass sunscreens by prolonging the gradual and increasing change of rhythm of the inclined panels.
Finally, the volume is completed with a more slender attic reaching to the sky. The main entrance of the building opens to the “Cour de Bretagne” square, the main public space of the district. It fits into the depth of the concrete base and reveals a neat and contemporary entrance lobby, with the use of elegant materials: concrete and wood. The building core, which groups together the annex spaces and the distribution of the floors, is rationally positioned to the south to protect the main workspaces from sunrays.
The internal layout of the building comprising of prestressed lightened concrete slabs combined with an ingenious cooling-ventilation-heating system, built into the thickness of the structural slab/engineered floor complex, which makes it possible to create a fully modular platform at each level, free of columns and networks, enables the creation of a fully modular platform at each level that is free of columns and network cables.
Visual comfort and luminosity are accentuated by the open view, the wide spaces and the grey painted concrete ceiling. The final product is a small precious object, similar to a delicate and evanescent set of glass scales, with elegant proportions and shapes. It subtly creates a game of transparency and reflections fragmented with its environment. The aim is also to give new neighborhood a new spirit and to go along with its development.
