Mainline Pokémon Games Based on How Buggy They Are: A Thread
Red, Blue, & Yellow
Tumblr media
Pretty buggy. The Butterfree line set the stage for regional bugs and emotional trauma. Everybody loves Scyther. Inspired use of Cordyceps when designing the Parasect line. Kabuto and Kabutops should have been Bug to honor trilobites for founding Arthropoda. 8/10.
Gold, Silver, & Crystal
Tumblr media
Yes, we had Scyther, but what about second Scyther? Scizor, Heracross, and Shuckle are legends. Game Freak decided to invite arachnids (Spinarak and Ariados) to the party, truly redefining what it means to be buggy. 9/10.
Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald
Tumblr media
This generation is loaded with bugs! Game Freak realized their mistake in not giving the Kabutops line Bug typing, making up for it with Anorith and Armaldo (who are based on Anomalocaris). They fumble the recovery, however, in not only depriving the Flygon line of Bug typing, but forever making them second fiddle to the Salamence line. The Beautifly, Dustox, and Ninjask lines introduce some interesting approaches to Bug-type evolution. Volbeat and Illumise are there. 7.8/10.
Diamond, Pearl, & Platinum
Tumblr media
DELELELELELEWHOOOOOOP! A smaller collection of bugs this gen, but a well-rounded one. Vespiquen slays. Scorpions get some love via Skorupi, Drapion, and Gliscor. Writing this post is making me realize that slugs, snails, and nudibranchs like the Magcargo and Gastrodon lines aren’t bugs. We grew up thinking snails were bugs, right? Anyway, Yanmega rules. 8/10.
Black, White, Black 2, White 2
Tumblr media
Game Freak’s magna opera. Truly the buggiest games there are. While you have to wait until Pinwheel Forest to encounter your first bugs, you’re rewarded upon arrival with Sewaddle and Venipede, the larvae of the Leavanny and Scolipede lines. From there, you encounter the Crustle, Galvantula, and Volcarona lines. Game Freak has some more fun with Bug evolutions, having Karrablast steal Shelmet’s armor as they evolve into Escavalier and Accelgor (inspired by the real-world interactions between the ground beetle family Carabidae and the gastropods they feed on). Durant is our first proper ant, and we get our first (and only . . . ) legendary / mythical Bug in Genesect. These games made Bug my favorite type. 10/10.
X & Y
Tumblr media
A big step down from the previous generation. This game hardly has any bugs. Do you like butterflies? You get a butterfly. Vivillon is a lovely butterfly that comes in all sorts of colors, but SURELY there are more bugs than that in France. 6/10.
Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon
Tumblr media
Giant isopods! Diving bell spiders! Giraffe stag beetles! A true return to form. While the native bugs of Alola are great, we are also introduced to the ultra beasts, two of which (Buzzwole and Pheromosa) are really cool bugs. It seems they were going for wasps and bee flies when designing the Naganadel and Ribombee lines, but they don’t really work for me. Faint blemishes on an otherwise buggy generation. 8.5/10.
Sword & Shield
Tumblr media
Centiskorch is the greatest Pokémon ever made. I have them tattooed on my arm. Blipbug is the worst Pokémon ever made. I see them in my nightmares. Interesting that they’re both Bug Pokémon, and that Game Freak really min-maxed with them. Fortunately, Blipbug evolves into Dottler and Orbeetle, who are great. Snom has a place in everyone’s heart, and Frosmoth is elegant as can be. 9.5/10.
Scarlet & Violet
Tumblr media
I love Rellor and Rabsca! I . . . don’t really love the rest! Iron Moth and Slither Wing are great, but they’re nepo babies. Tarountula and Nymble are nice, but Spidops and Lokix leave something to be desired. Orthworm is a a big worm. At the end of the day, these games would be alright if they weren’t so wonkily coded and glitchy. Wish there was a better word for that. 7/10.

[image ID: several cartoony diagrams and infographics of Melusines from the game Genshin Impact, but re-imagined as nudibranch-like creatures.
the first image is a diagram of a Melusine's basic anatomy. they're shaped like typical nudibranch sea slugs, with a mantle over top a muscular foot. the front half of the body is lifted up, with the rounded head facing forward. a couple of round, antennae-like rhinophores sprout from the head, with the text, "scent and water/air currents provide sense of spatial awareness." a mass of rounded, feathery gills sprout from the back end of the mantle, just above the foot. ocelli/eyespots sit on the head just in front of the rhinophores, with text reading, "wide range of color vision, poor depth perception." five sets of legs are situated underneath the body, with the foot partly hanging over the lower legs. these legs are much like caterpillar prolegs-- chunky and short, hydraulically powered, with cup-like suction grippers. the two front sets of legs are lifted up above the ground, with the lifted half of the body, and have slimmer grippers that look modified for grasping.
a doodle below shows the Melusine walking with all five sets of legs, with text reading, "'rippling' walking motion. they normally walk on just the lower 3 sets, but can use all 5 sets. usually reserved for running." another doodle shows the Melusine swimming flat in the water, with text reading, "legs pull up into body cavity when swimming. foot extends out farther and provides wavelike locomotion."
another doodle shows the Melusine slowly forming around a mechanical gear, with text reading, "Elynas goop clung to 'tokens' over time, leading to current forms."
the next image show a simple doodle of Melusine skin covered by a layer of Hydro particles, with oxygen molecules in the air gathering towards the Hydro. nearby text reads, "Hydro layers over the skin on land, protecting Melusines from desiccation and sun damage, and providing support to their soft bodies. Melusines can also pull oxygen and water from the air through the Hydro layer, breathing and retaining moisture as they would in water."
below that we see a human hand patting a Melusine on the head, with text reading, "the Hydro layer also provides some protection from physical damage. touching a Melusine, one would only feel the cool, smooth, somewhat rubbery surface of the moisture-wicking Hydro layer, rather than the truly moist, slimy skin of the Melusine. this layer can technically be broken, but it's difficult to break the molecular bonds outside of elemental damage."
below that is a doodle of a healthy Melusine on land in Fontaine, then that same Melusine on land anywhere else, laying on the ground dried up and dying. nearby text reads, "this semi-aquatic lifestyle is only possible in Fontaine's heavy Hydro concentration (arguably Watatsumi as well)."
the next image starts with text reading, "Melusines can change their color/patterns, and their language is based in complex color/pattern cues. each Melusine has developed unique color/pattern preference over time, so communication rules/cues vary widely between individuals. (though they've learned to telepathically communicate using common human languages, with Neuvillette's help)." a doodle below that shows two Melusine staring blankly at one another, with text reading, "having a heated argument (they've been completely silent and still for 10 minutes, but their patterns are rapidly shifting)."
a short comic sits below that, starting with text reading, "*early in Sigewinne's career*" Sigewinne-- a light blue Melusine with pink accents, wearing a white nurse's cap-- stands silent, staring into a box at her feet. Wriothesley the human stands nearby, thinking to himself, "Hm, Sigewinne hasn't moved in a while." grabbing Sigewinne's attention, Wriothesley says, "doin' alright there, Sigewinne?" Sigewinne flips through a yellow book with the title, "Human Expressions for Dummies" with a simplified Melusine mascot on the cover. then she turns back to Wriothesley to telepathically yell, "No, I'm not!!!" with angry eyebrows and a cartoonish pulsing vein on her head, created using color patterns on her face. Wriothesley simply replies, "Ah."
the next image shows many different Melusines, with text reading, "Wide variation in body, rhinophore, and gill shape." indeed, some Melusines are thin and tall, others are short and round, while others are stocky and squared-off. some have thin, upturned snouts, while others have short, stubby snouts, or blocky, drooping snouts. some of their rhinophores are thin and straight, or round and curved, or branch/antler-like, or have more pronounced nodes/ridges. some of their gills are bulbous and pointed, or thin and wavy, or feathery, or branch-like, and some Melusine even have extra gills higher up on their bodies. all of these Melusines have different colors and patterns, with text reading, "Melusines can be found in all colors across the spectrum (including colors humans can't see), but individuals usually prefer a few specific colors."
a doodle below shows off Sigewinne's present-day outfit. she's wearing a white nurse's cap tied to her head with a pink bow, on top of a grey wig with a bob cut and curling bangs. a white apron with blue hearts and pink ribbons is tied to her front, with a two-tier cut to allow her front legs to move freely. another white apron with pink and blue bows is tied across to her back, covering most of it. nearby text reads, "no concept of nudity, clothes are just fun accessories. wigs are both exotic accessories, and a way to show kinship with humans."
below that is text reading, "Melusines usually darken their tones outdoors, for extra sun protection." a nearby doodle shows a pale Melusine indoors, then that same Melusine outdoors, her colors visibly darker.
the final image is an edit of a meme, reading, "If a Melusine wore pants, would she wear them like this or like this?" above two drawings of the same Melusine. in the first, the Melusine is wearing jeans cut to fit around her three lower sets of legs and the bottom edge of the foot. in the second, she's wearing jeans cut to fit around the back end of her body and last set of legs, covering the back end of the foot and mantle, and cut around the gills.
end ID]
I swear I had no idea it was nudibranch day yesterday, this was just a happy coincidence LMAO
anyways, I hate how Melusines look in-game, so I decided to make them Actual Slugs b/c that's objectively cuter. obvious nudibranch base design, but I added in some planaria and caterpillar elements for the eyes and legs, respectively. it's a bit goofy, but I'm real happy with how it all turned out <3
also sorry if the Sigewinne comic isn't true to her early career, personality, or her relationship w/ Wrio. we haven't seen her much yet, and tbh I didn't rly care to look into her current lore all that deeply

Hey! So I was just re-reading The Abyss Stares Back, because I wanna try drawing some fanart for it, and if you're okay with it, I'd love some more info on what Solar and Ruin look like (cuz I noticed neither of them got a ton of physical description in the fic so far)!
Solar obviously is built similar to Sun and it's mentioned that he's orange but I think that's about it! I'd love some more details if you have them!
And Ruin we have almost nothing for description, only that he's got mesmur-like rays and mis-matched eyes. Is he also similar colors to a mesmur? Or more similar to his canon colors? Also how big is he? Around the same size as Eclipse? Maybe smaller? What about fins and body shape, etc?
Also, if you have any more info on the other guys I'd love to hear it! I already collected the various leviathan pics you based Eclipse, Blood Moon, and Kill Code on, and I also have pics of the creatures you based Sun and Moon on. So I feel pretty confident in being able to draw them, it's just Ruin and Solar I'm unsure on.
Anyways!! I love all your fics, and I'm excited to maybe finally draw fanart for one! (my motivation is extremely fickle so it's rare I actually manage to make things lol)
Hello! Omg fanart! How exciting! :D Yes! Okay so Solar is pretty much identical to Sun with a slightly shorter mantle.
Tumblr media
They are based on the Spanish dancer nudibranch with their mantles running from their necks beneath where their rays end, over their shoulders, all the way down to their tail tips.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the Mesmer Leviathan from Call of the Void! On the right is a Spanish Dancer Jellyfish. Some of the coloring for Ruin (scales, edges of his wide rays) is taken from the Jelly. His head and rays are of the Mesmer but in his usual coloring. His rays are wide like the Mesmer's and his eyes yellow to match. :) He is about the size of Eclipse and out of the two of them is the egg bearer. He has arms like all the others but otherwise his shape is generally the same as the OG Mesmer. :)
I hope this helps! Please dont hesitate to message or ask if you need more details! :)

A Merfolk's Melody (Part 3)
Tumblr media
Characters: Yan!Floyd x Reader, Yan!Jade x Reader, Yan!Azul x Reader
Word Count: 13.5k
Intro   Floyd Leech Jade Leech (You Are Here)  Azul Ashengrotto Epilogue
Synopsis: The sea always calls to those who feel lost and alone, wanting to fill the empty part of their soul until they are loved and full… and as such, it’s only fair that the strange creatures that live beneath its depths would want the same as well…
Author’s Note: Another 4-part fanfiction courtesy of @merakiui ‘s headcanon of the reader being stuck in a room/wall (I’m sorry, but I just enjoy your headcanons and they always give me these ideas) -> https://www.tumblr.com/merakiui/722393818829373440/in-addition-to-being-stuck-in-a-locked-room?source=share & https://www.tumblr.com/merakiui/722677892623056896/about-the-stuck-in-a-wall-trope-in-the-oceani?source=share
Here’s how it’s going to work: each character is going to get their own part following the intro. It is going to focus on the Octrio again (bc it’s my current liking, sorry guys). If you want to read a certain character’s part, feel free to jump around and select the one you’re most interested in.
Again, as stated before, this is a work of fiction; I disagree with any and all behaviors that are represented in this story.
****
During your earlier days in college, you and another of your close friends had once discussed the difference between coral and mushrooms - as there were some fungi corals that lived in the coral reefs, even though they were not classified in the fungi family. You both agreed that fungi and coral played huge parts in their own ecosystems, providing both nutrition and hiding areas for the wildlife that inhabited the area around them. Both were made up of microscopic organisms - as most plants and other wildlife are - but while one shot spores, the other grew polyps on top of each other over time.
Your friend had asked if you knew if there was a coral reef back in your childhood home - to which you responded that you weren’t sure. You had been told by someone once long ago that beyond the crashing waves of the sea outside of your family’s cabin that there were coral structures the size of Burj Khalifa - the world’s tallest building - and a few that were wider than the Aerium - the world’s widest building. Imagining the depth and how big the ocean was already a monstrous task as it is, but the knowledge that some coral was as large and as wide as two of the world’s biggest buildings was mind-blowing.
Now, a few years later as you dipped beneath the surface as the waves pulled you further into its depths, an amazing sight greeted you.
Colorful coral of all shapes, sizes, and types spread before you - elkhorn coral, fungia and pocillopora corals spread along the ocean floor as pillar and staghorn coral reached for the sky. Sun coral and sea anemones waved with the current of the tide while bubble corals and zoanthids peered out from dark crevices. The colors of neon in pink, green, teal, orange, and yellow shifted together with the darkness of the water here and there, making everything seem like a blacklight room from one of the city’s downtown clubs.
But the coral and plants weren't the only thing colorful within the dark waters.
Bright colorful fish of all shapes and sizes surrounded you from all angles - clownfish peered out from behind the sea anemone as the occasional blue or yellow tang fish passed between the coral walls alongside lionfish and butterfly fish while nudibranch slugs crept along the edges with starfish as seahorses perched among the organ pipe corals and the carnation corals. You saw banded pipefish hidden in the crevices between rock and coral while moon jelly swam out to deeper waters, their nearly opaque bodies hiding their forms in the shifting waters that crashed against the waves. Manta rays swam close to the bottom of the hidden paradise, one occasionally coming up to you and brushing along the side as your light-weight tank top fluttered in the water around you, the feeling of soft smooth skin coated in a slick film surprisingly pleasant.
The colors of the deep dazzled you - pulling you into deeper waters as you held your breath for as long as you could before your lungs would force you to the surface, gasping out deep breaths as you floated above the surface world for a few moments before diving back down to stay for as long as you could in the peaceful paradise that existed beneath the waves, amazed by everything that surrounds you. You swam along the coral beds, fingers grazing over the pieces of coral polyps as you passed - as beautiful as the structures were, you could never break a piece off. The same person from your past had warned of doing such things as a child - breaking off pieces of coral can take years to grow back, and if they are broken off consistently, the coral eventually dies. Seeing the bright beautiful healthy green coloring of the coral beneath you reminded you of that memory - a smile tugging on your lips as you dived deeper.
Lost in thought, you didn’t even realize you had swam as deep as you did until you felt your lungs struggling to hold your breath until your sides ached. You had traveled between some coral beds and were now surrounded completely by it, the coral twisting around you like thorns on a rose bush and every time you would attempt to get through, the coral would dig into your skin - cuts forming along your arms, face, and legs.
You looked around desperately - but there appeared to be no way out.
“Poor child…” you heard a voice then, something soft and sickly sweet that tickled your eardrum, “Poor sweet child…”
Your head turned in the direction of said voice, seeing nothing in the darkness. Fear ran along your spine as you did your best to keep calm, the anxiety eating away at you as you struggled to think of a way out as well as struggled to keep yourself from falling into exhaustion from losing oxygen.
A shadow shifted then as a pair of heterochromia eyes - one brown, one gold - peered out at you from the darkness beneath you. You watched as a figure appeared before you, their form coming into the light that shone in between the coral that surrounded you.
The figure was that of a very large creature that was half man and half fish - the pale sunlight reflecting off of his pale teal skin that was the color of sea water; his tail was long, making him approximately six or seven feet in length, and swayed with the water as he propelled himself toward you, slowly and filled with caution while his hands - which you thought may have been webbed - clenched at his sides, the claws digging into the flesh of his palms. His facial features appeared strong and sharp, eyes clear and calculating, as his lips spread in what appeared to be a friendly smile that was anything but; his dark hair - nearly the same color of his body - framed the strong features, though one long strand - nearly the color of deep seaweed green - fell over his left eye as the golden hue began to glow the closer he came to you.
It was then that you realized you were looking at a mer - a moray mer, to be exact.
Moray eels were known to attack when provoked, but the mers were known to hunt anything that trespassed into their territory - watching from the darkness before striking unexpectedly. You had heard stories about them when you were a child - the locals believing that they typically traveled in pairs, meaning that there was likely a secondary one close by and you had to tread carefully now that one of them had found you.
The mer only smiled, teeth sharper than a shark’s gleaming in the darkness as his body began to glow; the large teal stripes that lined his hips, arms, and face began to glow in the darkness, his left gold eye nearly turning yellow as he gazed upon you.
“You seem to have a very serious problem,” the mer spoke, his voice sounding like sweet honey dripping down from a hive on a hot summer day, “... There might be something I can do to help you.”
You were beginning to slowly lose consciousness, the edges of your vision fading into darkness as you struggled to stay awake - to stay aware. The mer seemed to sense this as he drifted even closer, slipping through the water like a water snake as he stopped in front of you, looking down as his smirk grew wider. The moray mer’s features were now mere inches from your face, his webbed hands closing in to cup your face in between his palms before he pulled your face up to look at him, your body slowly becoming numb as your eyes drifted closed - the oxygen nearly out.
Something soft and surprisingly warm pressed against your lips before a sudden rush of air filled your lungs.
Your chest heaved as your eyes snapped open to see the mer pressing his lips to yours, pulling the water out and breathing for the both of you as the gills behind his finned ears fluttered with the current. You pressed your hands against his chest, trying and failing to push him away before one hand moved to wrap around your waist, pulling you closer to him as his other hand tangled into your hair, keeping your head still as he pressed his lips harder against yours - no longer breathing for you, but kissing you. You felt his long tail curl around your legs, keeping you trapped within his hold.
When he pulled away, his pupils had dilated; hunger reflecting within them.
“I saved your life, little pearl,” he whispered, “and now… I will take something from you as payment.”
You struggled, wanting nothing more to do with the mer that now wrapped completely around you.
However, the moray pulled you down into the depths of the coral enclosure, pressing the front of your against a large stone with one hand on your shoulders and the other holding your hands together above your head. You held your newfound breath between your lips before cool lips pressed against the nape of your neck, drawing the skin into the mer’s mouth as he lapped and sucked on it like a newborn babe. You shuddered with every lap of his tongue and whimpered with every nip that you barely registered his hands releasing you before something dug on either side of your neck, deep enough to draw blood.
You cried out, bubbles escaping from your lips before the mer pressed his lips against yours again, breathing for you as he turned you to face him - webbed hands and claws creating small cuts in the fabric of your cotton capris before the fabric was removed along with your bottoms. You threw your head back as one thumb rubbed circles against your entrance - a musty-sweet odor slipping into the salty waters around you before something fleshy and hot pressed against it. You mewled as the mer flicked over your entrance, slipping one, then two fingers within - thrusting them in and out at a leisurely pace as the glowing on his body increased, his eyes never leaving yours. You whimpered softly, one hand reaching out and clasping onto his dark hair, his eyes closing and humming against you as a fire began to build in your thighs and lower belly - threatening to consume you as your body twitched with want.
As he worked you over and over, you shuddered and groaned, arching your back away from the stone as your muscles clenched. He pulled away after a few moments, the loss of contact making your body grasp at nothing. You whimpered in need before something long, thick, and rigid rub between your legs.
“Ah… mine,” the moray mer sighed as he bared his teeth at you in a mocking grin, grabbing a hold of your ankles and pushing them into your chest as he leaned against you, moving his hips and rubbing himself against you, “Mine… my precious little pearl… Do you know what you’ve done to me?”
You can only quiver in response as he leans close, his nose nearly touching yours as his length continues to tease you, making your insides squirm with anticipation.
“How long I’ve waited for you, little pearl,” he brushes his nose against yours, his voice soft and sugary-sweet, “I’ve waited over six years… six years for you to come back to me. And now that you’re here… I can never let you go.”
Then, you feel him thrust hard and fast inside you, pushing your stomach into your throat as a silent cry leaves your mouth. The mer is merciless against you, pressing you hard into the stone beneath you and keeping a firm grip on your ankles as he pounds into you, each thrust making the precious air that still exists within you leave in the form of tiny bubbles from your mouth and nose.
He presses his lips to yours again as his eyes close, breathing for the both of you again before pulling away to lavish at your neck, his tongue flicking over the scratches he made as you feel something rise up and down from your skin. Both of your chests heave together, the pounding of your hearts argue in your rib cages as he presses his lips against yours, no longer breathing as his thrusts become more urgent. He releases his grip on your ankles and hauls you up by your waist, moving your position around so you may settle onto his lap, your thighs resting on either side of his hips as he presses deeper into your core.
The change caused you to gasp again, feeling him practically nudge into your stomach. The mer slows, allowing to adjust to this new position as he kisses your features - your forehead, your nose, eyelids, brows, cheeks, and lips - as if he is completely worshiping you.
“Sweet, precious little pearl…” he whispers, snapping his hips in urgency against you after a few moments, “Let me lay you… keep them safe for me, for us…”
You whimper softly, a name long forgotten now bubbling forward, “J-Jade…”
Jade lets out a low growl in response, thrusting hard and fast against you, “That’s r-right, little pearl… my precious (Y/N)...”
You let out a cry as your entrance grips onto Jade’s member, the muscles in your lower body spamming wildly as something thick and heavy slips between your legs.
Jade presses his forehead in the juncture between your neck and shoulder, his breath caressing your skin, billowing the tank top you’re still wearing, gasping, “...not enough, little pearl. Not enough, yet…”
***
Jade has carried you to his corner of the shadows, curled beside you as you laid on his bed of seaweed surrounded by coral. His hand cups your cheek and follows the curve of your cheekbones before pressing another kiss to your lips and resting his forehead against yours.
It had been years since he had last seen you - the two of you plus his twin had been thick as thieves, frolicing along the shore lines and had taught you to swim. He had gathered many pieces of coral during that time and presented them to you when you all met up each and every day - the giggles that slipped past your lips making him smile with pride and puffed out his chest like a seagull. Eventually though, those days of spending time with one another along the shores became fewer and fewer.
Floyd had moved on, now more interested in antagonizing Azul verses waiting on the rocky shoreline for you to come out to play - but Jade was more patient than his twin, his tail swaying with anticipation along with the tide as he watched from his spot on the rocks, his heterochromia eyes never straying from the shoreline. Eventually, his patience thinned to the thickness of a thread, going to Azul to test out his latest potion that would allow him to take on the form of a human for an hour. He headed into the village, searching high and low for your family. One of the village members had been kind enough to explain that your family had moved to the nearest city where you had been accepted into college.
Jade felt his heart break. There was no way he could follow you - and even if he did, how would he find you?
Azul noticed his sour mood upon his return, the typical Jade he knew would never lounge on the rocks among the coral like his brother did unless something happened. Jade had stayed silent about what he had heard on the surface above - merely going through his life day by day as the heartache festered and grew within, making him irritable - once snapping at Floyd which made the younger of the two surprised. It didn’t take long after that incident that Jade decided to move away to another part of the coral city, hiding within the darkness of the crevices as thoughts of you consumed him day and night.
He was about ready to give up on himself when you came swimming back into his life - quite literally.
Jade tucked his head under your chin, arms wrapping around your waist as he hummed. Tomorrow, he would go to Azul to find a potion to make you more like him… even threaten the octomer with becoming fish bait if he refused.
But, for now… Jade was content to have you in his arms, back in his life. His precious little pearl…

Random fun fact: There's a sea slug called a Nudibranch that can incorporate whatever it eats on its back! For example if it eats a plant, now it can get it's energy from the sun by photosynthesis
(I still need to do more research 💀) But yeah!
YES OUHHHH YEAH I LOVE THAT FACT I LEARNED ABT IT A LITTLE TOO!!! LIKE HOW THE BLUE GLAUCUS EATS MAN O WARS AND GAIN THEIR ABILITY OF STINGING CELLS OR SMTHN AGHH YESS

So Sorry! I'm so dumb! I forgot to re-ask my question! I have no idea if it came through or not, but the question i asked was if the sea slug boys were poisonous. Have a good day, sorry to bother you!
*Nervously scuttles away*
It's all good!! No need to be nervous!!
So, the boys are not actually poisonous, at least to humans anyway! They have other means of protecting themselves in the ocean as they've not got a protective shell on their bodies and are basically sponges, sending out signals to alert others of a threat nearby.
However, there are some species that have venomous appendages (cerata) on their sides and there's also a nudibranch that is quite dangerous, which is the Glaucus atlanticus, which can produce a stronger sting than the Man O' War! Cough cough @pr0ng3ls
Tumblr media
OOP- Kinda went off subject for a moment!
But no, Sunny, Moony and Eclipse Slugs are perfectly safe to humans!! ... Ya know, unless ya make them angry or use their rizz attacks Lol XD

Design notes:
I made both Oren and Simon’s designs like. vaguely crustacean-like (Oren’s colors are inspired by the Halloween crab, while Simon’s are inspired by the yellow pirate crab)
OWAKCX is a borb (colors inspired by the rose-ringed parakeet)
Tunner is like. a mishmash of a coyote and a few desert reptiles
Clukr is a dragonfly
Garnold is a tamandua
Funbot’s a moth
Brud’s a nudibranch
Jevin’s a bat
Vineria’s a lechwe
Gray’s some kinda like. vague mammal
[Image ID: Two drawings depicting the characters from Sprunki. The first drawing depicts (from left to right, going by two rows): Raddy, Oren, Pinki, Black, Mr. Sun, Durple, Mr. Tree, OWAKCX and Tunner.
The second drawing depicts (same metrics as the last drawing): Garnold, Funbot, Clukr, Jevin, Simon, Mr. Fun Computer, Vineria, Brud, Wenda and Gray.
Raddy lets out a standoffish huff, Durple waves at the viewer, Tunner has a hand on their hip, Oren and Pinki are contentedly chatting, Black is tipping his hat, Sky looks like something just caught his attention, and OWAKCX looks startled.
Wenda and Gray are glaring at each other, Clukr and Garnold are looking proudly at an excited Funbot, Simon chuckles and Vineria waves. End ID]

Hi! I hope you are having a wonderful day! I just wanted to say thank you for posting you poly batch fic! It was so good and definitely what I needed after all the negativity I've seen. I loved every minute of it and have re-read it multiple times now. I don't have the words to describe how happy I am to see people still interacting with the fandom after the ending.
Tumblr media
I have so many more fics in mind! We'll see how many I actually get to before I get distracted by 1000 other things... but in the meantime, here's an extra bit of mermay poly batch :)
Echo decides not to open his eyes when he hears Fives shrieking for his life. Even a twin's loyalty only goes so far, and Fives has been antagonising Crosshair for the better part of a week. It was inevitable that Crosshair would eventually snap and try to murder him. There's also the fact that Hunter is curled around him, his fingers splayed over Echo's chest, sleepily nuzzling at Echo's cheek.
"Good morning," Hunter murmurs, and promptly falls back asleep.
Considering Wrecker is half on top of Hunter, that's probably for the best. There will be no getting out from under Wrecker, not when he's snoring like that. And not when he's snuggling Hunter with both arms.
"Good morning." This is from Tech, showing up with a nudibranch gently cupped in both hands. "I need your opinion."
"You look exquisite," Echo tells him. And he does. His hair's grown out a little, with a curl to rival Hunter's, and his scales glow in the light.
Tech simply rolls his eyes. "About the nudibranch, Echo."
"Not nearly as exquisite."
Tech frowns, clearly offended by Echo's priorities and disregard for a formerly-unknown creature.
Echo chuckles to himself and stretches out, his hand above his head, seagrass curling around the flexing of his fingers and the twitch of his tailfin.
"Show me?" he asks.
Tech beams, pleased by his interest, and lowers himself to lay along Echo's body, one hand slipping to lace his fingers with Echo's, the other holding the nudibranch... well, that seems awful close to Echo's face. But Tech always puts the poisonous ones in a bucket, after that one time that Omega tried to pick one up, and Hunter had panicked his way right into the side of a shipping container.
Sure, Echo wouldn't mind seeing that again, because it had been hilarious. But they all doted on Omega. And honestly, sometimes, he was just a little bit worried that without their influence, Tech would dump some poisonous creature in their lunch to see what happened.
In the meantime, he's learning absolutely nothing about nudibranchs because the sun is warm and the seagrass is soft and Tech is pressed against the length of his body.
Somehow it still surprises Tech when Echo props himself up on his elbow and kisses him.
"Oh," Tech says, blinking.
"Hi," Echo breathes out.
"Hello."
Echo decides that's enough of that, and kisses him. He has no idea what happens to the nudibranch after that, because Tech's hands are on him, and what more does he really need to know?
"I see you two are up early."
Crosshair's drawl in his ear startles Echo, and his body twitches up against Tech's, drawing a shudder from both of them.
There's a chuckle from Crosshair at that, and his hands slip under Echo's shoulders to lift him up so Crosshair can slip beneath him. His arms are strong around Echo's shoulders as a hand slips down Echo's side.
"Tup's babysitting Omega on another hunting trip," Crosshair says as his other hand settles over Echo's heart. "So I guess all we have to worry about is waking up Hunter and Wrecker."
"I don't think that would be so bad," Echo says.
Crosshair chuckles and starts working a mark just below Echo's ear. And after that, Echo's not worried about anything.

prompt! mary + "we give those we love nicknames, because love requires a word that belongs to us alone" (fredrick backman)
Mary sits cross-legged in the courtyard, hood pooled around her shoulders, staring straight ahead without seeing the younglings in her eyeline, pretend-duelling in a patch of sunlight.
Her hands pluck at the air, threading strands of invisible luminescence between her fingers, tugging them into a lattice, an alignment of colour and intention.
She ignores the ache that spirals through her hips from sitting in the same position for hours and hours, as dawn came and put dew onto everything, as the sun touched the furthest edge of the courtyard, coaxing the flowers back into bloom. Sound, sight, the texture of the stone beneath her, all of it fades as Mary presses every ounce of her concentration into holding her Force shield.
It’s supposed to be second-nature to her at this point. The others do it with a gesture, with a breath, casting a loose net of Force into the air to deflect soft projectiles and, more recently, stones. Mary has bruises all along her arms, her ribs, from blocking each one with her body.
Shannon’s fingers soft up under her shirt, probing each with terrible care.
“It’s not like… building a wall.” She said this, unhelpfully, while trailing the tip of her tongue along the path of Mary’s neck as they lay on her bunk, tangled up in Shannon’s nudibranch-print blanket. She splayed her palm over Mary’s shoulder, pressed lightly. “It’s more like throwing a tantrum. You just… put it out there.”
“Ah, that explains why you’re so good at it.”
Shannon’s teeth on her neck. Not a warning, never anything angry, just the pressure of her mouth.
“Oh, my girlfriend is a Jedi and a comedian?” Her breath laced with the faintest hint of toothpaste and the sour candy she ate afterwards, “Score.”
That was the same word she said on Ilum, shivering from the cold after Mary pulled her from an ice-cold pool. She stood with her teeth chattering, tucked her hands under Mary’s shirt to steal her heat. They were climbing through caves of ice and rock and monsters in search of kyber crystals and their first real lightsabers, not yet really certain of love.
In the dark, Shannon pressed a dozen of her effortless, invisible shields into the air above them, inviting Mary to press her hand into it, to feel the stretch of the molecules.
She explained it a dozen times, stretching her metaphors until she fell asleep with her mouth partly open, resting on Mary’s arm until it went numb. Still, Mary didn’t move.
The shield wouldn’t come to her. She could meditate for hours, trying to lash out with the Force, pretending to run with blaster bolts darting past her body, but no amount of daydreaming brought her any closer to manifesting a shield.
Maybe it was because, for her, using the Force has always been a thing of motion, a blind reaching-out. She touched it, used it first amid the blur of rock walls back on Tatooine, when she was seven and taking part in deadly races across the landscape of her home planet. Pod-racing was banned in Republic space, but there were no laws on Tatooine, just gangsters.
She remembers how she used to surround herself in a nimbus of something as her podracer threaded through the others. Her helmet rattling overlarge on her head and all the world reduced to the desert and the track and the need to cross that finish line. She used it more than usual on the day she met Shannon, performing a breakneck manoeuvre around crash close to the finish line, forcing power into her engine as she burned a runnel of hypermatter into the sand, taking a corner so fast that any other human would have broken the ship into pieces, but Mary held it through brute force.
The stands erupted when she pulled up, climbing out before the afterimage of the rupulsor-lines had disappeared from her eyes. She fought with the strap of the helmet under her chin, and then looked up and saw her.
The girl on the sidelines, surrounded by a gaggle of other, oddly-dressed children. There was a woman behind them, dark eyes fixed on Mary as she stood there.
The helmet slipped from her fingers, making a hollow noise as it bounced away from her boots, which were held together with random bits of leather and twine. She listed a little against the hot metal chassis, exhausted, but her eyes moved back to the  girl, odd and golden with her hair chopped short.
She darted through the opening of the garage as Mary approached it, ignoring the other drivers glaring at her back and wondering if she’d be safe walking the eight miles back through the desert to her little nook in the old cave systems.
Wondering if Watto would pay her or insist on sinking her winnings into ‘repairs’ on the pod.
If she had enough credits in her threadbare backpack to buy some algae packets on the way through Mos Espa.
Then the girl, rushing out to meet her. Behind her, tall and steady and strange, was her guardian. Mary had always been observant – you had to be, living as an orphan on Tatooine – so she noticed the weapon on the woman’s hip as it caught the light.
She froze, even as the girl skidded to a halt in front of her with her arms behind her back, trying to stretch as tall as Mary.
She was shorter, just by an inch.
The Jedi stayed in the shade of the garage opening, letting the others racers stream inside, watching them shoulder-check Mary on their way past, though they avoided the other girl like water parting around a stone.
Mary wanted to run, or hide, or go back and drive the pod straight home even if it meant being charged for the fuel cells, but something in the girl’s posture stopped her.
She stuck out a small hand for some reason.
“Hi, I’m Shannon. You race well, but your corners are sloppy. You know momentum is a vector quantity, so you should keep to your lines as much as possible.”
Her hand stayed where it was with Mary staring at it. She didn’t know what a vector quantity was, but she knew how to take corners out in the desert. With a glare, she said, “The sand doesn’t let you travel in perfect lines. It has texture, and it moves with you. If I tried to move in a straight line, if I tried to fight it, I’d just lose more speed.”
“Oh, like a boat.”
“A what?”
“That’s enough, Shannon,” the Jedi called from inside the garage, but not harshly.
The girl – Shannon – stuck her hand back in the pocket of her robes. They were beige, and clean.
Mary, in contrast, wore her better shirt and the soft pads on her shoulders and her arms and her knees, which would stop her skin from sloughing off if she got thrown from her pod. They were patched together from dozens of trash piles, cannibalized into something that made her look like an overstuffed sofa.
“Master,” Shannon did a dainty little half-turn, heel rotating in the sand with a dancer’s grace, “I think I can feel it!”
Mary clutched at her helmet as the Jedi nodded, gesturing for Shannon to return to her side, which she did, hopping over and slotting herself in a half-step behind the Jedi.
Nothing spared Mary from that dark, alert gaze. There was a softness threaded under the Jedi’s words as she spoke, but they were a command.
“Tell me, child, where are your parents?”
A day later, Mary sat in a ship sent all the way from Coruscant to collect them, belted into a seat with cold metal coating her spine in goose-pimples. Her arms, too.
The ship had atmospheric controls, according to one of the droids tucked in at the entryway. The other children had ignored it, but Mary stopped to stare at it, all shiny in its casings, so unlike the PIT droids who scuttled around her pod at the refuelling stations.
Droid binary was Mary’s fourth language, so she wasn’t very good with it, but she knew enough to understand that atmospheric controls meant the ship could sit at an even 283 Kelvin, despite the heat of the desert.
Shannon noticed her prodding at the goose-pimples on her arms. At the time, she just thought of them as cold bumps, lacking the vocabulary for describing cold. Even in the desert, at night, when the temperatures can plummet fast and hard, Mary never left her skin so uncovered as to see it take on that texture.
“You’ll get used to it,” Shannon chirruped right in her ear. She’d claimed the seat next to Mary by glaring at one of the other younglings, who bowed out with the grace Mary expected from a Jedi in training.
Back then, Mary didn’t know what a bird was, but in the years to come she’d describe Shannon to herself as birdlike, flitting from place to place as though forever on the edge of flight.
“Get used to what?”
“Being cold.” Shannon nodded sagely, “Space is cold.”
The hum of the engine started in the metal all around them, and Mary pressed down into the seat, trying not so show fear. In Mos Espa, people could smell fear from a half-mile away even over the mounds of Ronto dung and the smell of roasting meat, so Mary had learned to bury hers deep out in the desert. She only took it out when she was alone with the light of her lantern, praying that her solar battery would last long enough for her to rehydrate the algae packet stuffed down in her boot.
A hand slipped over her armrest, catching Mary’s fingers in a tight, sweaty grip. “Don’t worry,” Shannon said lightly, “If we explode, we’ll barely understand that we’re dying before it’s all over.” She seemed to think this was comforting.
It was.
Mary stared, gravity pressing her into her seat as the ship peeled away from the planet’s surface. It only occurred to her then that she was leaving, and that in all likelihood she would never go back to Tatooine. She clung to that hand – her hand - as the ship accelerated, staring at the fingers criss-crossed with lines of charcoal, or ink.
Shannon was always sketching. She’d sketched Mary’s little house – or, well, her cave – when the Jedi drove them there on a speeder so that Mary could say goodbye to it. She wasn’t supposed to take anything with her, because she was going to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, because Jedi had to leave all of their past behind them.
There was nothing she would have taken, anyway, except perhaps a spare algae pack to keep in her boot, just in case it was all a trick, but the fingers tangled in hers felt solid as the ship transitioned into weightlessness and Mary floated up against the straps holding her in her seat. She became suddenly and violently aware of being loosened from the ground; that there was no ground, only space.
She clung to Shannon’s hand, laughing despite herself at the absurdity of it all. Over the roar of the engine, she heard Shannon yell, “I like to just pick a direction and call it down. It helps you not to feel sick if you can orient yourself, even arbitrarily.”
It was odd, hearing words like arbitrary coming from a seven-year old girl. The children Mary knew spoke mostly in curse words and a melange of different languages all competing with each other for syntax. She blinked, looking around for a direction. It made sense to decide that the floor of the ship was down, but some part of her knew that she had already oriented herself instinctually in relation to the hand clasped around hers, in relation to the girl at her side.
Shannon
///
She senses her first.
It’s a feeling Mary didn’t understand, for months and months after they kissed and the bond snapped into place. She described it to herself over and over as an indescribable warmth, or the first bite of food after starving, or the feeling right before you reach the finish line when you know you’re going to get there before anyone else.
‘Oh.’ She remembers sitting in her room with Shannon, elbows pressed together as they sat in the frame of the window looking out at the lights in the city where it poked above the bedrock. Mary sat there trying to describe what she felt when she touched Shannon, all the while watching a sketch take shape on the pad in Shannon’s lap, but it stopped when she floundered at the end of a sentence.
Shannon looked at her, and said ‘oh’, and then dropped her pencil onto the pad to take Mary’s hand. ‘I can describe it for you, if you want. It’s very simple, actually.’
‘I’ve been doing emotional long-division over it, so I hope not.’
A tight laugh, ‘It’s not really a, um…’
‘A skill issue?’
That was old slang, from the race track. A thread of their first argument about sand and corners and momentum.
‘No, it’s just…’ Shannon licked her lips, huffed out a sound that was not a laugh, not a sigh. Just an exhalation, maybe. ‘When I reach out for the bond,’  her hand tightened around Mary’s, ‘It, uh, it feels like coming home.’
That left her speechless. Many things did.
In the courtyard, with the impression of a barrier shimmering in the air like oil on water, Mary senses her first.
Sees her then, resolving into a smear of colour and light. Mary has to pick her out in pieces; her particular gait, sprinting full-tilt across the courtyard. The padawan braid behind her right ear, threaded with a ribbon of blue silk, a white band at the bottom because Shannon is studying healing.
She keeps bringing her notebook full of anatomical sketches into Mary’s room, showing her joints and tendons and using words like abduction and adduction, circumduction and plantarflexion.
Mary thinks she does it on purpose, because she thinks it makes her sound seductive.
It does.
She runs, trailing a succession of disapproving but unsurprised looks from Jedi in various meditation poses. Her braid is stuck to her neck with sweat and Mary knows immediately that she must have been  ten levels down eating shrimp noodles, must have climbed up through the ducts and the elevator shafts to get here. Indeed, as the barrier wavers and collapses, as the feeling of home cuts through Mary’s concentration, she sees the streaks of black grease on Shannon’s hands as she hops over a decorative stream and straight through a bush until she has a straight shot at Mary.
Without deciding to, Mary stands, braces her backfoot for the moment Shannon crashes into her, hands tangling in her robes. “If you’re being chased by a fruit vendor again I’m not-”
But Shannon just pulls her behind one of the pillars, still out of breath. Her fingers leave stains on Mary’s robes.
“Did you-”
“Yeah the lift was taking too long to arrive but Mary, listen. I just had the worst thought in the world.”
“So you just had to share it with me.”
“Mary this is so, so serious.” And, despite the dab of sauce on her chin, despite her sweaty hair, longer now and pulled into a tail, she does look serious. Mary’s hand tightens on her shoulder, a wordless thing passing through the bond between them.
Shannon smiles, melting into Mary’s arms. She ducks her head, presses into Mary’s sternum, voice almost lost in the folds of her robes. “So I was down arguing with someone about the best broth for synth-noodles and you know it just hit me that we’re both shipping out soon. You have Cere and I have fucking knobbrains-”
“His name is Vincent.”
“-and then we’ll be ready for the trials in literally no time because you’re amazing and I’m stubborn.”
She pauses, suddenly. Mary rolls her eyes when she realises it’s for dramatic emphasis, and not so that Shannon can catch her breath.
“And then… we’ll be Jedi.”
“Shan, please tell me it isn’t just occurring to you now that we’re going to be Jedi.”
A finger pressed to her lips. One of the decorative fountains has a flaw in its plumbing - Mary can hear it, like she could always hear claws in the dirt when womp rats tried to bite her ankles back on Tatooine.
She listens to that, instead of the flutter of her heartbeat, as Shannon traces her bottom lip almost absently.
“No,” she admits. “I know we’re going to be Jedi, but did you ever think about, you know, what they call Jedi.”
“You mean Master.”
Shannon buries her face in Mary’s chest again, voice decidedly muffled now. “Mmff. Yeah. That.”
She waits, so Mary takes the bait, works it out. Just like long-division, always working back and back to follow the threads of Shannon’s thoughts. Mary imagines she’s untangling the wires of the repulsor engines in her pod, working to snap the energy field into place that latches the vehicle together and lets it fall apart gracefully when it doesn’t smash against a rock face.
It takes her almost a minute, during which Shannon keeps up a steady stream of pathetic noises.
Then, “Oh. Oh shit.”
“I’m going to erase myself from all legal records immediately.”
Mary looks down at her, at the nape of her neck still damp with sweat, the messy tangle of her tied-back hair. “Oh, come on. It won’t be that bad…. Master Masters.”
She darts a kiss onto Shannon’s scalp in the instant before her head whips up, pulling back to avoid Shannon’s head, to appreciate her consternated glare. Her laughter echoes through the courtyard, drawing eyes, but for once Mary doesn’t mind as she pulls Shannon into a hug.
She squirms, whispers harshly into Mary’s jaw, “You’re the worst girlfriend in at least nine parsecs.”
“Are you really upset?”
“Yes,” but she’s fiddling with Mary’s padawan braid. It’s simple, compared to Shannon’s with her bright silk thread, just a black band to mark her study in covert operations, in linguistics and in dampening her Force-signature. All the little techniques that keep Jedi spies alive in hostile space.
Mary kisses just under her ear, smirking when Shannon’s shivers against her. They’re still behind the pillar, but Shannon makes a small, wild noise and grabs Mary’s hand, pulling her into a small stand of tall shrubs and flowerbeds.
When they stop, she presses into Mary immediately, tongue slipping through her teeth. Mary kisses her back, feeling the Force spin around them as invisible threads of light.
Shannon breaks away with a breathy sound, taking both of Mary’s hands in hers and raising them up, leaning into them.
It’s an old game of theirs, locking hands, trying to push each other out of a ring of chalk sketched onto the ground. Now, it’s just habit.
“You can be the same as me,” Mary presses her thumbs into the soft centre of Shannon’s palms. “I don’t have a last name at all, so everyone will call me Master Mary, I suppose, which… also sounds stupid.”
“I promise to just call you Mary.”
They’re out of sight now, hidden among the tall shrubs and hushed by the noise of the water trickling through the grooves under their feet. Shannon doesn’t need to go up on her toes anymore to kiss her – she’s a whole inch taller, which she claims is ‘probably because of all the shrimp noodles and the shrimp chips and the-’
‘Wait, doesn’t ‘shrimpy’ mean small in Basic?’
‘Whatever.’
Mary feels the brush of her lips again, struck by their bond, that feeling of home, home, home. The kiss is long, lingering, Shannon’s hands slipping inside her robes, over her ribs. She knows where the bruises are, presses some and avoids others, swallowing the small sounds Mary makes.
It feels, for an instant, like they’re back on that ship making anchors of each other, like the floor is down but Shannon is the centre of it all.
When they pull away there’s a soft shimmer in the air all around them, a tight bubble that presses their bodies close. Shannon’s hands linger on Mary’s hips as she looks up, lips bruise-bright. She reaches out, and a cascade of colour erupts where her hand makes contact with something solid, shimmering and almost invisible.
“You did it,” she breathes, taking her hand back. Little globs of colourful light cling to her fingers for a moment before fading. “You made a shield.”
It’s stupid, repetitive, like things always falling toward the ground, but Mary reaches out and takes Shannon by the jaw. Kisses her because she knows too many languages to say the words that erupt in her mouth like bruises onto skin.
No, you’re my shield.
