Yuebei Xing's design (for my AU)

It's just a concept for now, I might change a few things but I'm quite satisfied.

Since I learned about Sun Wukong's children, I've been thinking about an AU involving Yuebei, Jidu, Luohou and Paramita. (I'll post more details soon.)

I'm currently thinking about the designs for the rest of the kids. I'm planning to start on the twins tomorrow (instead of studying for my exams).

My Yuebei looks pretty much like Sun Wukong which is normal because she's his daughter hehe (and for other reasons ;)). The best way to tell them apart is their size. She's very tall even though she doesn't look it in the drawing.

Don't hesitate to ask me questions if you're interested in my AU, I'll do my best to answer even if I haven't thought about all the details yet. The AU's name is “the precious cycle”.

Yuebei Xing Video Game Character

I was looking for something regarding Yuebei xing (月孛星, “Moon Comet Star”), daughter of the Monkey King from Chinese vernacular fiction, when I came upon a video game character based on her.

“Sun Yuebei” (孫月孛) appears in the Japanese video game Touhou Monjusen ~ Bubbling Imaginary Treasures (東方門殊銭 ～ Bubbling Imaginary Treasures, 2021). She looks like a young, pink-haired human girl wearing red, femine clothing with a bright green bow and light, red armor. And like her old man, she wears the golden headband and tiger skin and wields the iron staff, along with her trademark magic skull.

Here is an example of the game play. Sun Yuebei appears around min. 3:34 as an opponent of the player character.

I know the asker mistook part of Yuebei xing's name for a surname, but I wanted to note that the original astrological deity is associated with the family name Zhu (朱) due to her red clothing or body. The late-Yuan to early-Ming scripture Secret Practice of the Primordial Lord Yuebei (Yuanhuang Yuebei mifa, 元皇月孛祕法) states:

姓朱, 諱光, 天人相, 披髮裸體, 黑雲掩臍, 紅履鞋, 左手提旱魃頭, 右手杖劍, 騎玉龍, 變相青面獠牙, 緋衣, 杖劍, 駕熊。 Surnamed Zhu [Vermillion] with the honorific title of Guang [Luminous]. In the form of a celestial human, their hair is let down over their naked body. Their mass of black hair covers the navel. Red sandals. Their left hand holds the head of a drought demon. Their right hand holds a blade. They ride a jade dragon. In their modified form, [they display] a blue face with long fangs, a crimson garment and blade, while driving a bear (Kotyk, 2017, p. 62).

In addition, an idol carving pattern sheet from 1970's Singapore lables her as the "Vermillion Comet Inspiring Goddess, Heavenly Lord of the Moon Comet" (Zhuli(bei?) fu niang Yuebei tianjun, 朱李(孛?)孚娘 月孛天君). This is similar to the way it’s listed among the 36 celestial generals of the Journey to the North (Beiyou ji, 北遊記, 1602), the "Vermillion Comet Godess, Heavenly Lord of the Moon Comet" (Zhubei wei Yuebei tianjun, 朱孛娘為月孛天君).

I previously suggested a headcanon where Yuebei xing's mother is the "Great Yin Star" (Taiyin xing, 太陰星), the moon goddess. But, given her surname in religious literature, I'm sure someone could think of a reason to connect the literary monkey demoness with the Zhu family name.

I wanted to ask and I will sound ignorant. But I understand that Chinese surnames come at the beginning, why does Yuebei have her last name at the end? I understand that her name is Yuebei and Xing is her last name from her mother or is it not?

Oh, I never took it as Xing being her last name. Like she would be a Sun but it would be more 孙月孛星 like Xing is just part of her given name. Like Yue Bei Xing, each character. Her name means "Moon Comet Star" all one term of meaning so if Xing was her surname it would be 星月孛 which takes away that clear term. Yuebei Xing is just her full name.

And we never get a mother from Journey to the South so that wouldn't be a solid explanation for the last character of her name. That and she would still have her father's surname as unless she was fatherless then the child shouldn't get their mother's surname. If she even has a mother.

So just a misunderstanding. She has no mother and Xing is not her surname.

Frozenfruit Headcanons!! (I missed talking about them!)

Of topic but look how small Wukong is in this photo

Wukong knows how to make flower crowns so he makes Bai He flower crowns whenever he makes the baby monkies ones. She really likes daisy ones.

Bai He has burned herself multiple times trying to curl her hair so she looks like Wukong. Wukong has to help her 80% of the time.

If Wukong is too tired he just won't take Bai He to school. It ain't that big of a deal to him and she likes staying home.

Bai He is actually taller than Wukong when he's unglamored (he's canonically 4 foot in Jttw) and she makes fun of him all the time.

Bai He keeps her cat at Flower Fruit Mountain. His name is Carmel and the monkies get along with him. Mo not so much.

Bai He begged to get contacts because she hates her eyes. (I headcannon she used to have brown eyes but after being under possession so long they turned pale almost white blue.) Wukong doesn't like that she wears them cause he wants her to like her features but he doesn't have room to talk since he hides his eyes so he let her get them.

Bai He will get along with Macaque if Wukong asks but she doesn't like it. She eventually gets more comfortable around him but she doesn't trust him 100%.

Wukong, Mei, Mk, Redson, and Bai He love to play games together. They like having card nights.

Wukong let's Bai He use his whole pack of crayons so she can draw.

When Bai He started living with Wukong she mostly wore his old clothes because she didn't have her own.

Wukong painted Bai He's room pastel pink just for her.

Wukong keeps every one of her drawings and hangs them up on the fridge.

When Bai He gets nightmares she climbs into beg with Wukong.

Bai He likes staying close to Wukong cause she hates being cold and he's SUPER warm.

They have matching scarfs.

Bai He bruises really easily (mostly cause she's frail and weak from possession) so Wukong has to be super gentle with her.

Bai He fakes being asleep so Wukong will carry her inside. Wukong knows she does this but doesn't say anything.

Mei helped Wukong and Bai He dye their hair streaks pink.

Bai He has a headband for every outfit. Wukong started collecting them for her.

Bai He tries to copy Wukong's drawing style but she's not quiet to his skill level yet.

Bai He HATES the taste of peaches but she doesn't like telling Wukong that.

Bai He likes playing Wukongs game. She thinks the stills are silly and she likes the story.

Has child makeup to match Wukongs eyeshadow.

They paint their nails together. Bai He started doing it so she stopped biting her nails and Wukong did it just to match her.

Wukong is a morning person. Bai He is not.

Since Wukong is basically rich, Bai He goes to school with pockets STUFFED full of money because Wukong doesn't know how much a kids lunch is.

Wukong bought those bandages that have the silly designs on them so Bai He would like them more.

They like to bake together. They like to make diffrent kinds of cookies and brownies. (Bai He gets to lick the bowl)

Carmel gets all up in Wukong's personal space. Bai He finds it adorable while Wukong finds it annoying.

Bai He subtly copies Wukong's mannerisms.

Okay that's enough. It's 6:30 am where I am and I haven't slept but I gotta walk 20k steps today so 🤷‍♂️

Love this duo.
