I was on the Eiyuden Chronicle discord the other day, when somehow (probably my fault) the convo turned to reminiscing about Suikoden IV.
This lead me to wanting to listen to the Rune of Punishment theme (gorgeous song), which lead me to feeling all the feels - and the sudden urge to paint Lazlo. I think this might be the first time I've ever painted him.
I have a soft spot for Suikoden 4 - Junko Kawano's designs from 1 and 4 were a major influence when I started drawing more. What a treat to see her new art in not one, but TWO new games next year! I can hardly wait!
If you've likewise been living under a rock, as I have, "Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes" is an upcoming 2024 jrpg game created by the same developers as the original Genso Suikoden series!
With their newly-formed Rabbit & Bear studio, Eiyuden Chronicle is arguably the spiritual successor to the original Suikoden series. It even has 100+ new character designs by Kawano herself!
And if that was not enough, Konami is also making separate HD remasters of the original Suikoden 1 & 2 - with Kawano drawing brand-new art for all the Suikoden 1 character portraits! (Also set to release in 2024.)
I only learned about all of this last week. I am very excited (and in slight disbelief by so much Suikoden news, after over a decade of Konami abandoning the series!).
Suikoden IV doesn't have a fishing minigame :( It does, however, have a net fishing mechanic!
(Wondering if your favourite game has a fishing minigame? Have questions on what counts as a fishing minigame? Feel free to send an ask in! Not only does sending in an ask allow your most pressing fishing minigame questions to be answered, but it also helps support this blog!)
I’m excited that Suikoden I and II are getting switch ports, but I also really want III and V to get ported some day. Chris Lightfellow was one of my very first gay baby crushes and I miss her. And V slaps and never got the love it deserves.
there are few things that i can say have been as impactful on me as suikoden has, it means so much to me and ive met so many wonderful people through it. thank you for everything, murayama-san 💗
also, in case anyone is curious, the flowers are queen of the night, white tulips, and forget me nots which represent enjoying small moments because they do not last, remembrance, worthiness, sincerity, true love, and, of course, not forgetting someone 💙🤍
Nobody seems to like Suikoden IV very much compared to the other games in the series. It was the first one I played and I have a strong fondness for it, and its opening theme is really good too.
Maybe if they hadn't used French for the song title people would like it more..........
That's pretty I like it, never played any of the games so I have no opinion there, but I understand the fondness thing.
First RE game I played was Code Veronica X that one still sits way high in my head.
Objectively I think it's a good game too, but I probably rank it higher than I would if it hadn't been the first one I played.
