Top 5 Anime Openings of Winter 2023
Welcome back to Otaku Thursday! It has been a week my friends. I feel like I spent a lot of time watching anime this week, even though I really haven’t. But you know, amidst watching that anime, I decided that today I wanted to do a super easy post that had nothing to do with anime rants (like the rest of my posts recently). Today, I just wanted to count down the top five anime openings of Winter…

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale: Anne Halford [ESFJ]
MBTI Type: ESFJ - Extraverted - Sensing - Feeling - Judging
Extraverted Feeling (Fe): Anne is a very kind, caring, and compassionate girl who wears her heart on her sleeve. She enjoys helping people and making them feel appreciated and warm. She's great at detecting other peoples moods and feelings. Anne helps and offers emotional support to people that don't like her, Bridget and Jonas, she puts her personal feelings and issues aside and helps them. She cares about social harmony and steps up to promote this, like when she when with Glen to try to help Bridget. She constantly puts other people's feelings and needs above her own. With the Duke she wanted to complete his confection despite the danger, validate his feelings, and give him hope. But Shall being the opposite told him how deluded he was and was totally uncaring of his feelings, Anne didn't liked this. When Lafalle wanted to kidnap her she was completely focused on others, not herself. She's a great leader and team player that values unity and cooperation, at the Paige workshop she was able to align the individualistic team into a common goal and sentiment they all agreed on.
Introverted Sensing (Si): She wants to be like her mom, a great sugar artisan and follows in her steps. Memories are very important to her, in the LN she thinks that the wagon is old but full of memories. Her crafting method is about gathering all the possible details first and then meticulously executing the piece. Anne likes the feeling of sugar and molding and chooses a profession that enables her to have a hands-on approach, sugar crafting, and thinks that's she's not good at studying.
Extraverted Intuition (Ne): Anne is open to new possibilities, job opportunities, and experiences. She is idealistic and believes that fairies and humans can be friends. Good at improvising and spontaneous ideas. When gathering information from old books about what has worked before in the Paige workshop failed (Si), she dissmised it and was open to a new vision, the snowflake tree. In the second contest, Anne depicted an abstract idea, the former kings wish for human and fairy coexistence, and made it tangible in a confection.
Introverted Thinking (Ti): Anne's not good at being detached and objective, she struggles to separate feelings and situations. That's Shall's strong suit, he balances her. In the LN she is aware at how illogical the Duke is at her intention of Christina's sugar confection, but she doesn't voice it and puts the Duke's needs above her safety. She did it for her pride as an artisan, but still she was being illogical that's why Shall gets annoyed and calls her an idiot. In vol 3 she starts to use her Ti in her sugar crafting, she realizes that gathering details is not always enough and realizes that she needs to understand the reason why the royal family likes themed fairy sugar candies. She searches for answers and when she understand the reason, she's able to apply this knowledge to her confection.

Character ask: Alice (Alice in Wonderland)
Tagged by anonymous
Note: These answers apply only to Alice from the original two books and the more faithful adaptations, not the Tim Burton movies.
Favorite thing about them: What a complex, three-dimensional character she is, despite being a child character in children's books. She's a sweet-natured, polite Victorian girl, but she's spunky too, and not afraid to call out adults when they behave badly – even if they threaten to have her beheaded. She's sensible and smart, but more naïve than she thinks she is, and full of childish wonderment and relatable emotions too. On the surface she's the only "sane" person in Wonderland and Looking-Glass Land, but her normalcy is only by comparison with the fantasy characters, as her inner monologues reveal that she's full of imagination and eccentric thoughts. And of course her adventures are dreams, which means that she's even more quirky and imaginative than we realized, because Wonderland, Looking-Glass Land, and all the nonsense in them are creations of her own mind. On the one hand, she can be seen as an embodiment of prim and proper Victorian culture, thrust into a new world where all the rules and values she took for granted are turned upside-down. But on the other hand, if we view Wonderland itself as a satire of Victorian British society, then she can be seen as a little rebel, protesting against bad or silly social conventions with her instinctive childlike sense of right vs. wrong and logic vs. nonsense. I could probably write several pages about what makes her an interesting, appealing character, and I think it's a shame that pop culture tends to focus more on the Wonderland characters and reduce her to just a bland audience surrogate. She's much more than that.
Least favorite thing about them: Well, in the first book at least, she has moments of childish callousness. For example, when she kicks Bill the Lizard out of the chimney (it's no wonder that the Disney version has her accidentally sneeze him out instead), or the fact that she seems to think it's cute when her cat Dinah eats birds, and thoughtlessly tells a group of sapient birds about it.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I can be curious.
*I enjoyed pretending and imagining things when I was her age (and to be honest, I still do).
*I sometimes talk to myself as if I were two people.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm not a child anymore.
*I've never owned a cat.
*Unlike her usual depiction, I'm not blonde.
Favorite line:
"Curiouser and curiouser!"
"I almost wish I hadn’t gone down that rabbit-hole—and yet—and yet—it’s rather curious, you know, this sort of life! I do wonder what can have happened to me! When I used to read fairy-tales, I fancied that kind of thing never happened, and now here I am in the middle of one!"
"Maybe it’s always pepper that makes people hot-tempered, and vinegar that makes them sour—and camomile that makes them bitter—and—and barley-sugar and such things that make children sweet-tempered. I only wish people knew that: then they wouldn’t be so stingy about it, you know—”
brOTP: Her sister, her cat Dinah, and Dinah's kittens Snowdrop and Kitty.
I also like crossovers that have her meet and befriend Dorothy of Oz. They have a lot in common, of course, and yet they're so different in other ways (refined upper/middle-class British girl vs. down-home American farm girl, cat person vs. dog person, etc.) that it would be very interesting to have them meet.
OTP: None until she's older.
nOTP: Any of the Wonderland or Looking-Glass Land characters, especially if she's not aged up from the books.
Random headcanon: This might be a cliché, especially from me, but... I think she might be on the autism spectrum. She's content to play by herself instead of with other children, has an incredibly rich imagination, talks to her cats as if they were human and to herself as if to another person, is precocious in some ways yet very childlike in others, shows slightly disproportionate emotional reactions to things (e.g. crying a literal flood when she can't get into a pretty garden, yet showing little concern about being alone in a strange land with no apparent way back home), tries her best to show proper etiquette yet makes glaring mistakes (i.e. talking about her cat killing mice and birds to a sapient mouse and birds), imitates other people in her attempts to be proper (she's clearly imitating the adults in her life when she scolds herself for crying or Kitty for misbehaving), and spends her adventures trying to make sense of a world that seems nonsensical to her. Some people argue that Lewis Carroll/Charles Dodgson showed signs of being on the autism spectrum, so maybe he put something of himself into Alice.
Unpopular opinion: I don't think Carroll meant to imply that Alice is a lonely or neglected child, as some critics and online fans claim she is. That's a valid interpretation, but not the only way to view her. True, her parents are never seen or mentioned, but only because they're not relevant to the books. And just because she plays by herself, talks to her cats, and tends to (almost literally) get lost in her imagination doesn't have to mean there's anything wrong with her life. For millions of healthy, happy children, those things are perfectly normal!
Song I associate with them:
"Alice in Wonderland" from the Disney film.
youtube
"In a World of My Own" from the Disney film.
youtube
"Curiouser and Curiouser" from the 1972 film.
youtube
"Loved All Day" from the 1981 musical Alice at the Palace.
youtube
"Welcome Queen Alice" from the 1985 TV version of Through the Looking-Glass.
youtube
Favorite pictures of them:
These classic illustrations by John Tenniel:
This illustration by Arthur Rackham:
These illustrations by Greg Hildebrandt (from an edition I owned when I was little):
Charlotte Henry in the 1933 Paramount film:
Disney's Alice:
Fiona Fullerton in the 1972 British film:
The Alice of the 1981 Russian animated version (I love this Alice – I love that she isn't a generic pretty girl, I love her upturned nose, rosebud mouth and buck teeth, I love her squeaky little voice, and I love that she's allowed to be just as quirky and imaginative as the Alice of the books):
Natalie Gregory in the 1985 TV version:
Tina Majorino in the 1999 TV version:

Winter 2023 Anime Roundup
Anime of the Season – Tsurune S2
I hadn’t watched season one, so I did not plan to watch this show this season, but all the gorgeous screenshots and gifs on Tumblr got to me, and I watched the entire series during the last week of the season. Hilarious, honestly, that the show I wasn’t even going to pick up ended up being my favorite of the season.
As good as the first season was, this was an upgrade on pretty much every front. All of the intersecting relationships between the characters at different schools made for more interesting and more grounded drama than the previous season. The art and animation both absolutely sparkled, and the sound design made you feel like you were watching in person. In particular, the spat between the two cousins/best friends on the team made for one of my favorite episodes this season. Something about how realistic their disagreement was, pushing each others’ buttons like only lifelong friends can do, and the way they resolved it by tiring themselves out in a tense archery duel that ended with a fit of the giggles, just thoroughly charmed me. I adored all of these characters, and I hope we’ll see more from the franchise. 9/10
First Runner-Up – Tomo-chan Is a Girl!
I had my doubts about this early in the series, with all the boob jokes and efforts to make Tomo girlier, but they were all gone by the end. It was just a solid romcom about a loveable group of lunatics that actively affirmed that Tomo was perfect the way she was. 8/10
Second Runner-Up – Buddy Daddies
The hitman content was not as good as the stuff about two single men in their twenties suddenly grappling with the minutia of parenting a five-year-old girl, but I was entertained week after week, and thought they did a good job sticking the landing. 8/10
IDOLiSH7 Third BEAT! Part 2 – Idol shows have a reputation for being harmless vehicles for hot guys/girls, but wherever that idea came from, it absolutely does not apply to this show, which repeatedly punched me in the gut and made me feel. Ryu is a top-ten hateable villain, for sure. 8/10
Play It Cool, Guys – I believe this was pretty popular in Japan, as it’s also getting a live-action drama, so I hope that means we can look forward to more relaxing, lightly amusing shows about cute guys doing cute things in the future. I just really enjoyed watching a handful of fairly normal dudes bumble around. 8/10
Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro S2 – As much as this series is a comedy first and foremost, I just really love the relationship between Nagatoro and Senpai. Their dynamic is so playful, and they have great chemistry along with a genuine friendship. 8/10
The Vampire Dies in No Time S2 – Season 1 was a little uneven with the jokes, but this season was consistently funny, episode after episode. The character interactions hit better once you’re more acquainted with everyone, and the silly situations were just better this time around. 8/10
In/Spectre S2 – The end of season one dragged quite a bit with the Steel Lady Nanase arc, but this series was made up entirely of shorter, three-episode arcs that made the best use of the medium and the characters. Kotoko is the tiny, thirsty queen we need in these troubled times. 7/10
“Ippon” Again! – For years now, I’ve been wanting a serious girls sports anime that wasn’t an anodyne cute girls doing cute things show, and this pretty much gave me what I was looking for. The judo matches had a nice level of tension and excitement to them, and the girls were free to get intense, work hard, and not look particularly pretty while doing it. 7/10
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale – This sat at the top of the chart for me this season, until the final episode had me ready to take my earrings out and square up. The infuriating story decision isn’t necessarily irredeemable, so I will watch part two this summer to see what they do, but my expectations are low. 7/10
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague – This was more of a vibe than it was a story, but I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of a bunch of yokai who are otherwise bog-basic office workers interacting with their human coworkers. 7/10
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun S3 – My love for Iruma and all his friends knows no bounds, and I’m really hoping for a season four, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say the harvest festival arc felt really padded and dragged out in this season. 7/10
My Hero Academia S6 – This season had some pretty epic fights and story developments, including a resolution of sorts for Todoroki’s family situation and a boiling point for Deku’s self-destructive selflessness, but it was a little uncomfortable to watch the angry citizens portrayed as ingrates. It had a whiff of “Blue Lives Matter” to it. 7/10
Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari – In many ways, this is just a basic off-brand action shounen with a blunt main character taking his anger out on everyone he fights on a quest for revenge, but I think the female lead and her retinue of tsukumogami adds enough novelty to keep things interesting. I look forward to watching part two. 7/10
Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte – I enjoyed the unusual approach to otome isekai in this, where two players in the real world became connected to the characters inside the game, who heard their voices as though the gods were speaking to them. It was nice to get a full adaptation of the source with multiple ships setting sail, but it started stronger than it finished. 7/10
Handyman Saitou in Another World – With the exception of two poorly paced episodes in the middle of the season that centered on a hideously animated monster in a group battle in the dungeon, this was a highly entertaining and refreshing take on isekai, with a cast of loveable characters. 7/10
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV Part 2 – If you stripped out all of the titty harem business, or just focused on building a genuine romantic connection with Ryu, this would shoot to the top of my favorite action/adventures. All of the dungeon exploration and fighting is just fantastic, with high stakes that get your blood pumping. 7/10
UniteUp! – It was feast or famine with this show. The first episode was straight up the best premiere I watched, and there were several excellent episodes where characters struggled with their families or with adjusting to working as an idol, but there were multiple production delays, some of the voice acting was fairly wooden, and there were several episodes that were merely okay. I wanted more Kacchan content! 7/10
Revenger – I can’t really argue with the people pegging this as an edgy revenge story, but I thought the main character had an interesting internal conflict, the fights were creative, and the guys were all easy on the eyes. 7/10
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea – The 3D CG animation wasn’t fantastic, and the second half that focused on a war between two remaining kingdoms was a little blah, but the setting was imaginative, the backgrounds were gorgeous, and the two leads had great chemistry. 7/10
The Fire Hunter – On the one hand, I really love the world building and all the intersecting plots going on in this post-apocalyptic fantasy. On the other hand, a number of questionable artistic choices mingle with straight up sloppy work to make the visual presentation an extremely mixed bag. 7/10
By the Grace of the Gods S2 – This is one of those shows that I can’t quite bring myself to call “good”, because the animation and art are just meh and the story is barely a story, but the vibe is so chill and the characters are so nice that watching it every week felt healing. 6/10
Giant Beasts of Ars – This is one of those fantasy shows that entertained me while I was was watching it, but I will likely never think about again. It had some creative world building, I enjoyed the adventuring party that formed around the main characters, and the voice acting was solid. 6/10
Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don’t Believe in Humanity Will Save the World – If they didn’t decide to tie one of the main characters’ backstories to a false accusation of sexual abuse by a spiteful child, I would have enjoyed this fantasy adventure series about a party united by their histories of being betrayed by those they trusted a lot more. 6/10
Trigun Stampede – Having enjoyed the original anime and everything else this studio has done, I expected to enjoy this. While I didn’t hate it, something about the story and characters just didn’t click with me, and I didn’t like how they animated the characters’ faces when they were talking. 6/10
Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement – I am sort of in awe of the author’s sheer audacity in taking the colonialist power fantasy subtext of modern isekai and making it bright, glowing, neon text. Not a good show, but an entertaining one. 6/10
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady – I really wanted to love this one, but I thought the writing was a bit of a mess with inconsistent characterization, elements introduced then quickly forgotten about, and a underdeveloped romance that felt unearned. 6/10

Shows I finished in 2023: Sugar Apple Fairy Tale!
In this modern age of the gig economy, hustling to turn hobbies into profit, and AI image generation killing the creative process in favor of cheap, shoddy results that only get posted for instant gratification, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale GETS IT. This show really drives home how delightful the creative process can be when applied to making art, especially by commission. Watching something take form by your own hand, and seeing the recipient light up when they see what you've made for them. That's the real stuff right there. And this show NAILS that. It's downright lovely.

Like... you can SEE the effects of abuse in Adrichat he was raised believing that his parents had True Love and watching them consistently prioritize each other over literally everything else has led to him thinking that it's acceptable to cataclysm anyone who tries to interfere with his own romance. Felix's sugar-coated fairy tale play is exactly what Adrien has known his entire life and what he equates everything with. Felix is giving Marinette a glimpse the little bubble Adrien has been brought up in and cannot stand to have disrupted. There's... definitely a narrative there on Emilie viewing perfection as being exactly like her and Gabriel's love towards his son being born out of him viewing Adrien as an extension of Emilie. And in turn Adrichat applies both of his parents to Maribug, bc he doesn't view Gabriel's worship or Emilie's inability to care for others until they interfere with her directly as issues. Those are mindsets that need to be addressed and unlearned by Adrien.
Exactly! And what does canon do with the setup? Keep adrichat in his fantasy bubble, of course! He’s much to precious to have his worldview distorted by the realities of the world!

Plane Movie Roundup #1 - Henry Sugar, Spaceman, Enter the Dragon
Initially it felt a little weird to group things as Plane Movies, but then I thought about it some more, and… well, have I really watched something if I've only watched it on a plane? Yes, but also no. I think it’s helpful context to remember I watched something tired, distracted, and with the constant rumble of a jet engine blaring in my ear.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
I actually watched all of this series of shorts except this one last year (The Rat Catcher was my fav), but just now got around to Henry Sugar. So, this applies to all of them, but - I absolutely love the style these shorts are done in. The rapid, feverish monologues while the actors stare the audience down complements Wes Anderson’s style to a T, and the constant shuffle of the sets and stagecraft is enthralling. The actors all swapping between multiple roles adds a very odd drama to the proceedings, and the casting was great as well - I can’t imagine someone I’d rather have locking eyes with me and calmly reciting narration than Richard Ayoade.
Anyway, Henry Sugar in particular was alright. The slow unveiling of the mystery in the first half kept my attention, but when all was said and done it felt a little saccharine. I thought it started to broach a genuinely interesting discussion about the class disparity of skill mastery: for all that we romanticize the idea of the starving artist, isn’t an independently wealthy person, who doesn’t have to spend time worrying or doing anything about their bills, plans or obligations*, able to have a fast track to bettering any skill they want? Doesn’t it feel particularly frustrating that despite creative arts typically being seen as a pure expression of emotion and feeling, due to the massive time investment required to excel, they're tied up in social status just like everything else? The example here was even particularly salient to examining that idea, given the inherent spirituality often suggested by meditation which Sugar clearly lacks.
*Not to mention the cost of equipment and the networking / connections required to actually make a career out of something creative, even if you’ve already gained the skill to do it
And yet, in a twist even more unrealistic than being able to see through solid objects with one’s eyes closed, the laughably wealthy man decides to use his new wealth-gaining technique to better the world and help those around him. What a fairy tale.
Part of me wishes it followed the hinted-at horror tangent of Sugar being unable to see anything beyond the base organic makeup of all the bodies around him… but we have Luther Strode for that, I guess.
Spaceman
Wasn’t really impressed by this movie… I think what the creators found interesting about the premise and what I found interesting about the premise were drastically different. If you came here for Space Madness – Is This Man Really Hanging Out With a Giant Spider or Not??, well, that sucks, because Spaceman is largely disinterested in questioning Jakub’s sanity and is content to accept Hanuš as his giant space therapist with very little fuss. If you’re here for Loneliness in Space – Can One Even Begin to Fathom the Ultimate Desolation of the Void??, again, not so much.
Instead, the movie is essentially Toxic Man Who Was Shitty to His Wife and Spends Way Too Much Time at Work Realizes That’s Bad While in Orbit of Jupiter which… didn’t do much for me. Feels real easy to have an epiphany about how you were wrong when you’re half a solar system away and can’t actually work on that problem in any meaningful way… and then the way he tries reaching out is by sending a generic, manipulative message to his wife and then immediately flinging himself out of his ship on a suicidal one-way spacewalk? Doesn’t really feel like you meaningfully learned your lesson, my guy.
The ridiculousness of the spider did result in some great moments, though. Hanuš rollin out of the pantry eating nutella while saying “Hey, tough break bud, that sounds really rough” like he’s Adam Sandler’s fuckin college roommate was pretty choice.
Enter the Dragon
Initial thoughts: god damn Bruce Lee is hot as fuck Latter thoughts: god damn Bruce Lee is scary
This was my first Bruce Lee movie… and what a trip it was. From the jump, I felt like I was out of my depth in a weird way when he started talking about ‘emotional content’, but still, I enjoyed this from an aesthetic standpoint if nothing else.
Mostly, Enter the Dragon was one of those movies where upon watching it, dozens of other things clicked into place in my head - media that was inspired by it, media that has parodied it, media that’s reverent towards it. And here, unlike many other times where I’ve first experienced older, hugely influential works, I was immensely entertained. The music is groovin start to finish, it has some of the best funny cheese moments (Bruce throwing the snake into the guardroom, the facility guards walking around with nunchuks like that’s a thing that anyone does), and the fight choreo is killer. Lee absolutely schooling O’Hara in their duel with that move like water shit… mmm. Give me more of that.
Okay, so the other thing that really struck me is how fucking scary Bruce Lee is in this movie. Now, maybe I just think of kung fu movies as lighthearted due to their constant parody in pop culture, or because the ones I actually grew up with, like Kung Fu Hustle, are decidedly comedic - but even putting that aside, I think Enter the Dragon genuinely is intentionally tongue-in-cheek much of the time. It even plays into the nonviolent, “don’t worry, they’re just sleeping” trope with Bruce only knocking out the guards on his nighttime excursion. So it came as a real shock every time Bruce Lee just straight up fucking brutally murdered a dude. Look, with O’Hara it makes sense, he absolutely had it coming, but it’s still wild to watch the camera slowly pan into Bruce Lee’s face, fully focusing on his thousand-yard-stare, theremins going wild in the background. Not a man to fuck with.

a spoonful of sugar helps the potions go down
by nikiacoustic
Things were calm, he thought. Wrongfully so, apparently.
Amidst the pattering of a light gentle rain that tapped against his windows, he never anticipated hearing a crashing "thunk!" against the glass. And then came a very, very loud, sharp ring of a bell which seemed to echo through the air.
It almost sounded like a curse. Perhaps he was just imagining it, but the second series of muffled rings seemed to be hint enough that this was indeed a creature of some sort. He just didn’t know what it could be. He had never heard such a sound.
And probably one of the last things he could’ve expected when he buried his fingertips beneath his windows and pried them open was to see a fairy of all things.
or, after a certain fairy shows up with broken wings, Wilbur decides to help. too bad he immediately gets attached, as one normally does.

I have a lot of "she would not fucking say that" moments that are derived from anime adaptations more than any fandom comments.
I think it's just because most of the media I interact with is female centric and anime studios are still very much dismissive of female protagonist stories but it happens a lot even with modern stories.
Like I'm reading and watching Sugar Apple Fairy Tale right now. The female protagonist is well traveled, but young, so like she has gaps in her knowledge of the world accordingly. But she has never not lived on the road so she knows danger, she understands that services cost money, and what it takes to stay safe.
So tell me why in the anime they act like she's surprised when things cost money and people want something in return 🤔. Tell me why the animators made up a whole scene of her being surprised by the dangers on the road even though she has extremely detailed maps and journals AND HAS ALWAYS LIVED ON THE ROAD.
Like it literally doesn't make sense for her character to be ignorant about that and the only explanation I can think of is that she's female.
I thought we decided to stop dumbing down anime protagonists already or does that only apply to boys?
There are so many other properties that I can think of off the top of my head where the female protagonist gets treated like this by the animators and it drives me insane but it just feels very relevant right now.

Despite the title of this series I love my kids. They are wonderful and I would go through the hell that is pregnancy, childbirth and parenting for them again in a heartbeat. It does not change though that I've had to go through hell for them.
There are so many books on the wonders or facts of pregnancy. Many people have a wonderful time. I didn't. It seems like these days we like to only publicly show the good times and paint this perfect life where possible.
When I was pregnant a second time, people would ask me how I was. My response was always the same.
"I'm pregnant." I would grumble. My tone was always enough to show I was not in a glowing happy place. A few would ask why being pregnant wasn't all fairy tales and joyful moments of motherly bliss. What would follow was a barrage of issues from that day or even that hour. Many did not make the mistake a second time to ask why I wasn't feeling all sprinkles and rainbows.
Unsurprisingly the books or chapters aimed at men were always a little bit more honest. I gave up trying to read pregnancy books aimed at mummy's as they just sugar coated everything. That or just a terrifying list of all medical stuff.
There didn't seem to be a book about pregnancy that I would like. Not one aimed at giving a real understanding for the shit show I had gotten myself into; nor doing so in a way that didn't make me want to vomit from the overuse of flowers and smiling pretty ladies. I did not feel happy and pretty. I felt grumpy, tired, fat and ugly. Also the smell of flowers when pregnant made me feel sick.
To the many of you out there who aren't glowing 24/7, you are not alone. Pregnancy, even if you have the best pregnancy in the world, will suck at one point.
There will be a day when you don't feel great because of hormones, stressing about what lies again or even in some sort of pain. There is no way to avoid it but childbirth in all its forms comes with its own discomforts.
Pregnancy can be great but let's stop the assumption it is the most wonderful experience that a woman can go through.
So finally here is a mini series for a lot of reasons why pregnancy sucks. It won't have them all and many might not apply to you but it is at least a start. A place to hopefully show that it's ok for pregnancy to suck.
Here's to being open and honest about pregnancy, and knowing we aren't alone in this crazy ride towards not being pregnant.

Sugar Sweet Dance Steps
by Cat_llie
For as long as she can remember, Uraraka Ochako danced. It came as naturally as breathing, and nothing in the world felt quite like it. Even amidst everything else, she continued to dance, the love and support of her parents pushing her forward.
One night, she woke up to find her beloved nutcracker, Deku, alive and fighting against a mouse army, the same army the red-and-white mouse Peppermint was fighting against. Shrunk by the Mouse King, Enji, by his magic, Ochako embarks on a quest alongside Deku– Midoriya Izuku– and Peppermint– Todoroki Shoto– into the Land of Sweets in the hopes of finding the only person who can remove her curse. What she finds is a kingdom fighting for freedom against its king and secrets that could change the course of her life.
Or, in other words, a TodoIzuOcha telling of the Nutcracker full of magic and dance.
