"To me, the only reason that he is not canonically autistic is that it is never explicitly stated. He maps very closely to my experiences. He doesn't like changes in environment so he never travelled with his parents on vacation, however his parents always made sure that if he wanted to go with them that it would be something that would be comfortable for him. Always involving his interests (books and authors) in some manner and paying attention to what times would be quieter and would have fewer crowds. Then there was the incident where he mistook the pet store assistant's questions about his cat as questions about himself. Questions such as Haru's (the cat's) name and age."

And I loved it!!

I feel like I'm tilting towards Slice of anime genre more and more, and I like that

And it's like, I learn something from each of them, more than learn it makes me acknowledge the things I often don't, it makes me realise that life is good

It makes me realise so many different things, and makes me feel okay about being bad at something, or simply being embarrassing

It makes me realise that it's okay to feel the way I feel, and that we can do and be better

It acknowledges my troubles, my feelings, and makes me acknowledge the world around me and the most simple things i often forget.

I'm on episode 8, and I'm all smiles.

This anime acknowledges the grief, the longing, and the awkwardness of how someone who doesn't usually deal with people deal with them. And it's really relatable to a certain extent.

Also the way they focus on animals and how we interact with them, it feels so personal and sweet. It makes me want to pay even more attention to my sweet little doggo.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm not doing enough for her. And she deserves really really better because she's such a cute little kid. And I'm gonna try my best to be that person. But sometimes when things go towards the dark end, I worry about her. She needs to feel warm and loved, and I want her to feel like that all the time. I'm gonna work towards taking care of her even more nicely. People sometimes refer to her like she's my kid and she kinda is but we've also practically grown up together, so more than a mom to her I feel like she's my sibling, smol sibling :3

It's a very sweet anime, and it makes me want to call my Mom and dad right now, and to just talk to them about them.

See, this is what I mean, an anime which grounds me, makes me acknowledge the world around me, the people around me, the most simple things. It makes me feel a bundle of emotions, and it's the right kind of emotions.

And I RELATE TO SUBARU A LOT. I relate to how he is most of the time😭😭😭

Towards the end, in the little way that Subaru changes, and accepts, welcomes those changes makes me feel really happy

It's really sweet, this anime.

Honestly I am a little/more like Subaru personality wise, and when he complains about why can't people consider his feelings, I get that. But I also get the later part of it, that even I haven't considered their feelings.

When Subaru in the end talks about how in the end, it's about the courage to reach your hand out and when you do, there'll be a connection, there'll be someone to grasp it for you. It made me feel those lines.

All in all, a very beautiful anime, and very beautiful characters.

"This entire show is about autism tbh. Subaru starts off as an antisocial recluse who gets overstimulated at a coffee shop and almost has a breakdown about having to go to the grocery store. He is easily overwhelmed by social interaction, hyperfocuses to the point of passing out from hunger, and prefers books over people. The whole plot is about him adopting a cat and how that leads to him taking care of himself better and making friends. (There are lots of irl studies about the benefits of pets for autistic people for the reasons stated above.) It doesn’t “fix” him, he still has the same personality by the end, just a little more confident and with friends that like him for who he is. It's pretty sweet actually :)"

"Gifted basketball player (he plays center specifically) who looooves snacks more than anything, which definitely seems like a special interest in his case (it's even said that if he weren't a basketball player, he'd be a pastry chef, so it's not just consuming sweets and snacks that he likes, but making them too). He doesn't tend to bother with other people much (unless they're giving him snacks perhaps). Despite his large size (208 cm! Wowie!), people often say he acts like a child. He calls his friends cute nicknames with a -chin suffix <3. He also tends to follow more dominant personalities like Akashi and Tatsuya who can make decisions for him. Anyway, there's probably more stuff I'm forgetting, but for now I'll just say I love my big boy and I hope u vote for him <3"

so much of "my roommate is a cat" hinges on the fact that subaru is autistic i forget that's not an actual canon thing. like genuinely i don't know how someone can understand the show if they don't understand subaru.

Lúc đọc giới thiệu tác phẩm này, mình cứ nghĩ đây là câu chuyện nhẹ nhàng, yên bình về cuộc sống rất chill của một người, một mèo. Ai ngờ đọc xong "chill" thật, "chill" đến cảm lạnh với loạt tình huống khó đỡ của hai nhân vật, đến mức đã đọc vài lần mà mình cười khằng khặc với mạch não của hai thánh này.

Mikazuki Subaru là một nhà văn viết truyện kì bí. Con người anh ta bất bình thường y như thể loại anh ta viết vậy, không thích đến gần bất cứ động vật nào bao gồm cả đồng loại. Đừng nói đến nỗ lực hoà nhập cộng đồng, đến việc bước chân ra khỏi cửa nhà còn làm anh ta thấy khó chịu. Thế mà một ngày nọ, đời anh ta va phải một con mèo (cũng khùng chẳng kém). Thấm nhuần đạo lý "ăn miếng trả miếng", chú mèo Haru quyết định "thương tình ở lại" với tên loài người ngất vì đói kia một thời gian (thực ra vì đồ ăn nhà Subaru ngon quá, nhưng sen không được cãi lời boss nên các bạn cứ hiểu vậy đi).

Thức ăn mèo mà cũng buff sức mạnh cho mấy nô lệ deadline được nữa. Kiến thức này kì quái quá 🥸

Một điểm rất rất rất thú vị của Bạn cùng nhà thi thoảng trèo lên đầu tôi đó là câu chuyện đư���c kể dưới góc nhìn của Subaru lẫn Haru. Vậy những gì boss nghĩ có giống những gì sen nghĩ không? Dĩ nhiên là không. Hai tên khùng này làm gì có chuyện hiểu được mạch não của nhau. Subaru cố đuổi Haru đang nằm sưởi ấm trên laptop để còn làm việc, còn con mèo lại tưởng anh ta giành chỗ với mình. Haru đuổi mấy hồn ma trong nhà đi mà lại bị hiểu nhầm thành nghịch ngợm, phá hoại. Nhiều tình huống lệch pha là vậy mà có lúc cũng khớp với nhau thần kì lắm chứ... dù lý do có "cảm lạnh" một chút. Subaru ngồi vắt óc nghĩ ra cái tên đầy ý nghĩa cho Haru với hy vọng nó sẽ chú ý, ừm thì nó chú ý thật, nhưng là vì nghĩ "Haru = đồ ăn". Khi Subaru khóc khi đọc ghi chú của bố mẹ, Haru dịu dàng an ủi anh (an ủi vì tưởng con sen của mình bị hồn ma bắt nạt thì cũng tính là an ủi nhỉ).

Haru vừa có ngoại hình, vừa có có tấm lòng vàng, tự nguyện bảo kê cho con sen nhà mình.

Ngoài những tình huống tấu hề thì Bạn cùng nhà thi thoảng trèo lên đầu tôi cũng không thiếu những khoảnh khắc vô cùng cảm động. Một Subaru chẳng còn bố mẹ, luôn sống khép mình. Một Haru mất anh chị em, lang thang khắp nơi kiếm ăn từng bữa. Subaru cho Haru một mái nhà ấm áp và đồ ăn ngon, còn Haru bảo vệ, chăm sóc cho Subaru. Mikazuki (朏) - họ của Subaru, có nghĩa là trăng lưỡi liềm, còn Haru (陽) là mặt trời, rõ ràng là rất trái ngược nhau nhưng lại chẳng thể thiếu nhau. Lệch pha lắm chỗ mà hai tên này cũng hệt như gia đình của nhau.

Thật sự khi đọc xong tập 1, mình chỉ ước giá mà có khả năng xuyên không để đọc tập 2, chứ hiếm lắm mới được hưởng thụ cái sự đáng yêu siêu to khổng lồ vậy. Thôi thì tự an ủi mình mỗi tháng lại thêm một thứ để chờ mong 🥹.

Thề là mình mê mấy biểu cảm của Haru lắm lắm lắm luôn 🥹 À, con mèo nhà hàng xóm của mình cũng đáng yêu như Haru, nhưng nó phũ mình thấy bà cố luôn chứ không được như Haru xáp vô Subaru đâu.
