This week, we met with Yeng!
In today's session, we discussed a plan for releasing his newest song he's been working on. We also added a few more finishing touches on the track to make it loud enough for streaming platforms.
For us to make this happen, we used a Limiter, which helps us raise the volume (in LUFS), and then we used a meter to see how loud the track was.

I finally published the project for my dice roll scarf that went viral last month. If you love dice games, you'll enjoy knitting this pattern.
Tumblr media
The color work in this project is determined by an algorithm, a set of rules that determine the final outcome. There isn't an exact set of instructions for this project. Instead, the knitter uses four 10-sided dice or a random number generator to pick the length of the colorwork in each row.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The result is a staggered stripe sequence along the edge of the shawl. There are trillions of unique outcomes, so no two projects turn out exactly alike. The pattern uses about 500 yards of yarn in total, but the amount of each color that you'll need is randomly determined. Before publishing, I wanted to find out the minimum and maximum amount of each color required to make the project and the probability of each outcome.
Tumblr media
The knowledge needed to calculate the yardage was a bit beyond my skill level, but my friend Mary W. Martin helped me gather this info. I used an online probability calculator to find out the probability of each unique stitch count. The results are slightly different depending on whether you use four 10-sided dice (blue) or pick a random number (yellow), but 99% of all possible results fall within a very small range.
Tumblr media
It was an interesting little tangent, but not hugely important to the actual knitting pattern. I can, however, confidently say there is a >99.9% chance that you'll need a 2nd skein of the main color. If you want to know more about the math, you should check out my project notes on Ravelry.
The thick and thin striped colorwork is created with a super simple "long stitch" technique. The pattern looks great in fluffy mohair or contrasting colors of basic wool and the instructions include some basic tips for substituting yarns or changing the gauge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finished Size: 18 x 68” (46 x 172 cm) rectangular wrap.
Yarn: Approx. 315 yards (288 m) of MC and approx. 264 yards (241 m) of CC. Yardage may vary, see notes on yardage below and yardage chart in photos.
• Main Color (2 skeins) - JMR Studio Worsted Weight Mohair, 245 yards (225 m) per 4 oz; 78% Mohair, 13% Wool, 9% Nylon.
• Contrast Color (1 skein each, both yarns held together) - JMR Studio Fingering Weight Mohair, 320 yards (293 m) per 100g; 63% Silk, 23% Kid Mohair, 11% Nylon, 3% Polyester Held with Lavender Lune Yarn Co. Suri Alpaca, 328 yards (300 m) per 50g; 74% Suri Alpaca, 26% Silk.
Yardage: The amount of each color used for this pattern fluctuates based on the random numbers used to determine the stitch pattern. MC uses approx. 233 to 315 yards (213 to 288m) and CC uses approx. 182 to 264 yards (166 to 241m). 99% of possible results fall within a much smaller range. The Yardage Chart shows the distribution of all potential yardage outcomes.
Needles: Size 8 (5 mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. NOTE: Straight needles work best with long stitches. Circular needles with a thin cord allow the long stitches to tighten and stretch, making them harder to manipulate.
Gauge: 12 sts x 14 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) square in pattern.
Other Materials: 10 sided die or random number generator, stitch marker, scale, tapestry needle.
Generating numbers: In my sample, I used four ten-sided dice (D10) to choose a number between 4 and 40 sts. If you don't have dice, you can use an online app like RANDOM.org to generate your numbers. If you follow this link, you'll get a list of 63 integers between 4 and 40. NOTE: Each time you visit the link or refresh the page, the list changes. You can also just choose numbers as you knit.
Pattern is available on my website and on Ravelry.

He could spend hours just looking at Bea, honestly it is his favorite pastime even at home. He has to stand aside to let them fix her hair and make up and his smile only widens whenever she laughs.
She's comfortable.
And she’s happy.
He doesn’t like going back to the past but he still remembers how she was when they started dating. She was so scared to be herself and honestly,he’d let guide him through her path as long as she wanted because he just cared about her wellbeing so much. Now she’s so much more open, like the walls lifted and she was finally who she was meant to be.
Nicole, who was on his lap, pointed to where Beatrice was, ‘Mama?” she questions and Rooster pushes her closer to him, fearing that if she moved too much she’d fall. Not that she would, but he worried.
“Mhm,it’s mama.” he coos, letting his little girl then stand up on his thighs - his hands holding her tiny torso, and he had to admit that did scare him a little bit more than planned - “She’s getting ready and we are going to stay here and watch her.” her little noise was his only answer and she kept herself straight on his thighs.
He liked this, as nervous as he was minutes before, the photoshoot wasn’t as bad. It went so well, they had a few change of clothes and the whole thing had a reason. Marcus also said they could keep the clothes if they so desired and who was Rooster to say no to that?
Nicole babbled a bit more, bouncing herself on his leg - she was already bigger than any toddler he had seen, she looked to be one already with how developed she was, especially mentally - “Dada, gugu.”
“Hm?”
“Gugu.” she says again and he furrows his brows because he’s not…sure what she’s saying.
“She wants yogurt,Roos.” he hears Beatrice say from the makeup chair, her green eyes moving to him as she smiled, pointing to the back of the studio, “Marcus was kind enough to keep her snacks in his fridge since we’ll be here for so long.” she drops her hand back to her lap, “Also, ask her which ones she wants, your daughter can be very picky.”
Nicole gurgled a laugh as if to agree, then flopped down on her dad’s legs, using his pants to climb off and then hold herself upright once she was on the floor, “Aa,” she holds her hand out to him, “Gugu.”
Oh his poor heart couldn’t take this cuteness.
Rooster couldn't help but chuckle as he stood to his feet, “Alright.” he holds Nicole’s tiny hand – bending down just a bit, his daughter did not want to be carried to the fridge, considering she was basically leading him to it, how did she know where it was he wasn’t sure. “Okay, okay.” he says when Nicole’s short legs move faster when she sees the sleek black fridge, slapping her tiny hand on it.
Kneeling down beside her, with a grunt because his back was a bit sore, Rooster opened the fridge and peered inside. The little one seemed to have a keen sense for what she wanted, even at her young age. He reached in and retrieved a small container of yogurt, showing it to her.
"Is this the one you want, sweetheart?" he asked, watching as Nikki peered into it.
Nicole's eyes lit up with delight, then she pointed to one of them, “Pease.” she points to the same one a few more seconds before Rooster grabs it out of the container, looking around a bit to see where he could put her so she could have her snack.
Rooster scanned the studio, his eyes settling on a nearby table with some empty chairs. He gently scooped up Nicole in his arms and carried her over to the table. He settled her into one of the chairs, securing her with a booster seat to make sure she wouldn't tumble out.
He blinked when he noticed the Louis Vuitton logo all over the seat.
"Here you go, sweetheart," he said, offering her the pouch, already open. Nicole eagerly grabbed it and immediately tried to chew the soft plastic on top until she squeezed the pouch, making some of the grape flavored yogurt smear over her mouth. He tried to clean it, but his daughter was too focused on eating, refusing to let go of her snack.
So he decided to lean back and watch.
“Damn, she is your daughter.” Payback says as he strolls in the little dining area, opening the fridge to grab a bottle of water, “You do the same thing with those chocolate ice creams, you know.”
Rooster just gives him an unimpressed stare, crossing his arms and leaning back on his chair, “Not my fault I have great taste.”
“Hah, yeah,sure.”
“You leaving already?”
Payback hummed negatively, swallowing the water then gesturing over his shoulder, “Nat is giving me a ride and she wants to stay a little bit longer, Jake already left to be with Evelyn and Javy and Bob are with me,so.”
‘You all hogged a ride with Nat?”
“Yeah.”
He snorts, shaking his head, “Good luck leaving before sundown, man.” he says, finally able to clean Nicole’s face when she stops eating for a second, her quiet complaints when he wipes her face were hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time, “Baby girl,I’m just cleaning your face, it’s okay.”
Payback sat down close to them, messing with his water bottle before he asked, “So, the twins are finally leaving the NICU,huh?”
"Yeah," Rooster replied, his voice laced with relief, shoulders sagging a bit. "It's been a long journey, but they're finally strong enough to leave the NICU. We’ve been counting down to this moment."
“Will you be able to see them?”
His smile dropped, ‘No,they’ll come home during my deployment.” he mutters, “Feels…bittersweet knowing my kids are coming home but…I won’t be able to meet them properly.”
Payback hummed, tsking quietly. "That's tough, man. I can't even imagine how hard it must be to know they're coming home, yet you won't be here to welcome them. But you'll be there for them in your own way, even from a distance. You're their dad, and that means a lot."
He looked over at Nicole, who was now happily munching on her snack, her small fingers occasionally dipping into the yogurt pouch. “I know, it’s just…” he pauses “I want to be there for them, all of them. Bea does help me seeing that some things are not in my control but…well, you know.”
“I do.” he says softly, “But hey, at least you’ll be able to celebrate your birthday next week, right?”
"Yeah, you're right. Can’t believe I’ll be thirty-nine in a matter of days,” he wipes Nicole’s face again, “And Nikki will be one year old. One. Holy shit.”
“Time did go by fast.” Payback says, crossing his arms and then his legs, “Listen man, think about it this way, you’ll be able to celebrate it with Bea and Nikki before you do get deployed,” he shrugs, “It is a bonus in my eyes.”
Rooster nodded, "It is a bonus.I'll cherish every moment before I have to deploy."
Payback grinned. "And speaking of your birthday, got any plans in mind for the big day?"
Rooster scratched his head, thinking for a moment. "Well, besides what Bea's told you guys, not really We’ll still do it at home, keeping it simple, casual, no need to go over the top, you know?"
“Really?”
Rooster smiled, his eyes glancing over to Beatrice who was now being led to the other side of the studio alongside Shells who couldn’t stop talking. "Yeah, she wants me to unwind. Just some friends, some family and some kid cake since Nikki will be one year old too.”
Nicole looks back at him, still squeezing the pouch, “Aa?”
“Yep, that’s right baby girl. It’ll be your birthday- when was the last time any of us had cupcakes?” Rooster asked, “Like, actual cupcakes.”
“I had it at my nephew’s birthday a few months back. It was pretty good.”
-
Shells was vibrating with excitement, she couldn’t stand still, “I’m going to print this and send to all those fuckers from college.” she giggled gleefully, “Oh,I wanna see their faces.”
Beatrice, on the other hand, just stood to the side with a worried smile on her face, “I don’t…think it’s necessary,Shells.” she says, lifting her head so the hair stylist fixed her bangs a bit, “Besides I believe this will be…around because of billboards. No need to send to bad people all over.”
“We could send one to Miranda,” Shells either ignored what Bea said or decided that this was a good option, “Your lovely neighbor.”
"Shells, you really don't need to stir the pot," Beatrice cautioned. "We've got enough going on right now, especially with Aurora and Gavin in the NICU. Let's focus on them and not the past."
Shells paused for a moment, her expression turning guilty as she realized the gravity of the situation. She scratches the back of her head, being careful with her hair. "You're right, Bea. I'm sorry. It's just that sometimes, I want to protect you from people who've hurt you."
Beatrice smiled gratefully at Shells, her gaze softening. "I know, and I appreciate it. But right now, my priority is taking care of everyone…and prepare for Rooster’s deployment next week.” she says, lifting her arms so one of Marcus’ assistants fix it around her waist, “And his birthday. I have to make sure everything will be just right.”
“You’ll get him some chocolate cake?”
“Yes,I already called Mr.Scoops to prepare an ice cream cake for him. Belgian chocolate, he doesn’t know it yet because as soon as he does he’ll lose it.” her smile widened, “But, you know, I’m happy how things are.I’m happy I’m back in the Hard Deck–”
“As you should, because we all missed you.”
Bea’s smile widened, “And…yeah, the whole Mark and Miranda situation is a pain, it is a pain in our asses but as long we keep our distance, we’ll be okay.” she shrugs, finally lowering her arms when the assistant was done, “They haven’t done anything yet…well, Mark will be deployed with Rooster but I doubt he’ll talk to him. Roos can’t hide when he dislikes someone.”
“I mean, doesn’t mean he won’t try.” Shells mutters, “He won’t be alone, but it is weird how much they are…you know, locked on you two, isn’t it?”
Beatrice glanced down at the floor, "Yeah, it is weird," Beatrice finally admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "I mean, we're just a couple trying to navigate life like everyone else. There's nothing extraordinary about us, but for some reason, they can't seem to let it go."
Shells placed a comforting hand on Beatrice's shoulder. "You both deserve to have some peace and happiness, especially with everything going on with the twins. We can't let these people ruin that for you." she winks, “My offer to beat them up is still open.”
“Shells.”
“What? I mean it, I have a baseball bat somewhere in aunt Penny’s house, from my softball years.”
"As much as I appreciate the thought, no violence just yet. We'll figure this out without breaking any bones." She paused, “It’s what we’ve been doing so far too.”
After that, it was a quick blur of lights and camera snapping. Marcus was always very thoughtful with both of them - Shells was too excited, while Bea preferred to keep to herself and let the time flow by easily, being guided by Marcus was good for her.
Every now and again she’d see Rooster peeking at her, her smile widening but she had to keep herself focused on finishing the photoshoot. He had his turn minutes before and changed back on his normal clothes…but he looked so good even like that. Her husband was a walking sin, truly.
“Now,Bea,” Marcus’ voice snapped her out of the constant admiration, “I want you to feel loose, remember, you are flying, loose, like a bird.” he smiles,”Like a sparrow. Can you do that, darling?”
Beatrice nodded, taking a deep breath to refocus on the photoshoot. Her movements became fluid and elegant, as if she were dancing on air. She spread her arms like wings and allowed herself to be carried by the music that played softly in the background. The camera clicked and whirred as Marcus captured her in this ethereal moment.
As she continued to move gracefully, she felt the weight of the world lifting from her shoulders. The troubles with Mark and Miranda, the worry for her twins, all faded into the background. In this moment, she was a bird in the sky, free and untethered.
Rooster watched his wife silently, the conversation with Payback forgotten because why move his gaze away now?His eyes never leaving her as she gracefully executed each pose. He knew how much she needed this break from the stress and strain of their lives, and he was grateful to Marcus for providing this opportunity.
“Rooster.” Payback calls, “Rooster.” it takes the other pilot to snap in front of Rooster’s eyes to make him turn his gaze - wide and surprised - towards him again, “Jesus, you are just a puppy dog when it comes to Bea, it’s hilarious.”
“Oh,you can’t blame me.” Rooster replies, turning his gaze to Nicole, who just dropped her empty yogurt pouch on his hand then reached out so he could carry her this time, “It’s not my fault my wife is beautiful.”
Payback grinned “I’m not saying that you two make a great couple. It’s just it’s been so obvious from the second you two met at the Hard Deck."
Rooster's eyes drifted back to Beatrice, who was still in the midst of the photoshoot. The way she moved, so effortlessly, so gracefully, left him in awe.
Like a fucking fairy.
“Hey,Payback.”
“Hm?”
“I…” he pauses, looking down at Nikki, “I am thinking of something and I think you can help me with it.” his friend arched his brow higher, “For Bea, before I get deployed.”
Payback raised an eyebrow, "Of course, Rooster. How can I help?"
Rooster shifted Nicole in his arms, cradling her as he spoke. "I want to plan something special for Bea before I get deployed. It's been a challenging time with the twins in the NICU and all the chaos at work. I just want to give her a moment of happiness."
Payback nodded, . "That's a great idea, man. Bea deserves something wonderful. Do you have any specific plans in mind, or are you looking for suggestions?"
Rooster sighed, glancing back at Beatrice, who was still lost in the world of the photoshoot. "Actually…yeah." he smiles, “I might need some people to help me with it though.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah…around four people.” he purses his lips, hiding his smile, “You think we can do that before my birthday celebration?”
Payback leaned back on his seat, then arched his brow higher as his smirk slowly widened, “...alright. That can be done easily, don’t worry man…now” he nods, “Me,Bob and Coyote?Sounds good?”
‘Sounds good. I need Jake to…distract her.”
“Can do,anything else?”
He hummed, “...how many flowers can you fit in your car?”

^^^ CLICK TO LISTEN TO THE BROADCAST OF THE RACE!
Transcript from the First Segment of the Lunar Race:
Good morning everybody!
This is Kinsey from Sinnoh Now, coming to you from a helicopter LIVE in collaboration with Goldenrod Radio.
It's a chilly morning in Pastoria City, where the first leg of the race is taking place. Welcome to the Water Track, where it's wet, cold and full of surprises!
Starting in Pastoria on Route 213, rounding Sunyshore City and ending on the first finish line right in front of our glorious Pokemon League building where the Elite Four are ready to receive our racers today!
We got some interesting contenders this year folks.
All the way from Unova, we have King Ghetsis Harmonia, looking super dashing in his racing suit.
Oh, I see Miss Rika, a former Paldea Elite walking down to the starting line, speaking with Hassel, another Elite from Paldea.
We have infamous Poketar Studio actor and leader of the Orre Region, Alistair taking his spot next to his Garchomp.
It's an amazing line up this year, for sure. Let's cheer them all on as we start off this year's Lunar Race!
*1-2-3- GO!!*
And they're off!!
Brian, our Sinnoh League pick is starting off strong, blasting ahead of the pack with Chelsea! Who knew Garchomp could swim so well!
Following him is Ashe with Kumiko, keeping on his tail.
Not so far away is our Pokestar, Alistair! Daisy looks like she really wants to give it her all.
Oh, hey, what's going on back at the wharf? Seems as if Hassel is having trouble with his mount! Rosso isn't jumping into the water with the rest of them. Hassel is calming his Garchomp down and is now starting the race after everyone else has already gone!
Brian's keeping up a good speed, but what's this? Green Oak has torpedo to the front, coming from all the way back without warning.
Giacomo, isn't letting him get away with the lead and is chasing after him with Tyrant. The look in that kid's eyes is intense!
They're getting closer to Sunyshore now, but it looks like another racer is having issues riding her Garchomp through the water. The waters sure are icier than usual this year, huh? Looks like Aluwa is a bit stuck with Torque – oh, wait, they got out and are sliding along the smooth ice to make up for lost time!
Green Oak is still maintaining his incredible lead, leaving behind the rest of the competition in his dust – OH, NO! He just got slammed by a Water Gun from a passing Floatzel, what an upset!
Here comes Giacomo, taking the opportunity to swim past with Tyrant, taking the lead.
Oh, there must be a whole school of Buizel and Flotzel in that part of the water – so many of the racers are getting hit with Water Guns from the disgruntled Pokemon! Giacomo and Tyrant have jumped over all the Buizel and Floatzel, completely bypassing them all! And they're swimming ahead of everyone else! Luwa is hot on his tail, though!
Alistair is following behind after wiping off his face, rushing after them with Daisy. Ghetsis is right on Alistair's tail, though.
Yris of Team Bidoof is finally squeaking on by and all our racers have made it through and are now passing Sunyshore to head to the finish line at the Pokemon League!
Giacomo is leading up the pack in first place, followed by Aluwa in second, with Alistair in third.
Ghetsis coming in fourth, with Green and Brian fighting for fifth place. Sixth currently has Hassel holding the spot. After that follows Blue, Hilary, Ashe, Rika and Yris.
Our racers are starting to see the entrance to the Pokemon League building and – hey, what's that sound? Is that....singing?
I don't believe it! The Bidoof have come out to sing their song from a few years ago. They're flooding the waters as they're singing, blocking off all the racers from their goal. Oh, but it really is such a cute s--
HEY WAIT. Aluwa is just smashing through those cute little Bidoof. Poor things, but they really shouldn't be in the – Hey, Giacomo is also doing it, too! Look at those Bidoof fly! Everyone else is trying to jump over or get around the Bidoof without attacking them, so they can catch up with their compatriots.
Because of the sudden distraction, a lot of the racers are being left in the dust, but look at that! Green, Aluwa and Giacomo are at the forefront with Aluwa and Green practically neck to neck as they push their Garchomp to max swimming speeds towards the finish. Look at that water splash!
It's Green...it's Aluwa, it's Green...Aluwa, Green, Aluwa, Green, Aluwa –
AND IT'S GREEEEEEEN! HOW EXCITING!
Followed by Aluwa in second place and Giacomo in third!

[22 April, Age 850. Toki Toki City.]
Toki Toki City was a special place. Constructed outside of the flow of normal time, it served as the stronghold of the Supreme Kai of Time and her most trusted allies, the Time Patrol. Despite the divine mission of the Time Patrol, the city still functioned much like any other population center, and featured many of the same mundane infrastructure and services. There were a variety of dining facilities, including a cafeteria, which normally served breakfast to the Time Patrol every morning. But this time, the cafeteria had been taken over for a private occasion, as two Patrollers sought to celebrate their recent victory.
"How much longer is this gonna take?"
"Quit whining, Kakarot," Luffa said. "We're not doing this half-assed. I don't want you making excuses about stomach pangs when I beat you."
The man sitting at the counter grinned. "Heh. You won't have to worry about that. I just don't see why you're takin' so long to fix breakfast. We could grab something out of the fridge and bring it with us."
Luffa started chopping leeks with a calm precision that belied her expression. "This is special, Kakarot. You really don't get it, then? They told me you were brought up by aliens--Earthlings like Trunks' mother--but you really don't remember our people at all, do you?"
He crossed his muscular arms and rolled his eyes thoughtfully, as though looking up to his brain to locate an answer. "I only know you keep callin' me 'Kakarot', just like Vegeta always does. Every Saiyan I meet tells me that's my real name, but as far as I'm concerned, my name's always been Son Goku."
Luffa gave him a concerned look as she dumped the leeks into a bowl. "You don't mind, do you?" she asked. "I mean, I don't want to get off on the wrong foot here. I meant no disrespect."
"Nah, it's fine," Goku shrugged. "But it sure is weird havin' people call you two names."
"I… I didn't realize you never understood that," Luffa said. "Your mother named you 'Kakarot'. At least, I assume she did. Believe it or not, you wouldn't be the only Saiyan to grow up among aliens, or to take an alien name. But among our own kind, we Saiyans address each other by our birth names, to honor the Saiyans who gave them to us. I suppose you never knew your Saiyan name, so you wouldn't understand, but it means a lot to us. It's a sign of respect. Even if we were bitter enemies, I'd still do you the honor of acknowledging you as a fellow Saiyan."
Goku scratched his chin. "Well I'll be," he said.
Luffa switched to a crate of eggs and began cracking them expertly on the side of a large beaker. "Besides," she added, "I don't get to hang out with a lot of pure-blooded Saiyans. I… like using the name. It's less lonely that way, if that makes any sense."
"Yeah, it does," Goku said. He was still upbeat and carefree, but there was something somber about his tone. "When my grandpa died--the man who raised me on Earth, I mean--I kept his Dragon Ball. I started calling it 'grandpa', like he was in there somehow. It just made me feel better. I still call it 'grandpa' sometimes, even though I know it's not really him."
Luffa nearly asked how his adoptive grandfather died, but suddenly decided she didn't want to know. Saiyan children were a handful, even for Saiyan parents. And the Earth had a very large moon with a very frequent orbital period. Perhaps the old Earthman had simply died peacefully in his sleep, perhaps not.
"Well, Kakarot," Luffa said, "It's customary for two Saiyans to share a meal before a friendly contest. Sure, we could grab some field rations or slap some flour in water and call it done, but I want to savor this occasion, and I'm betting you've never had any Saiyan cooking before."
"I guess not," Goku said. "Is there something special to it?"
Luffa paused just long enough to point her knife at herself. "Just me, really. The original Saiyan homeworld was a distant legend even in my day. Our ancestors wandered the universe, sometimes establishing new home planets, but mostly roaming the stars in search of adventure. So the ingredients vary with the circumstances. It's more about resourcefulness, cobbbling together a good meal with whatever you have on hand. Of course, Toki Toki City has a really impressive pantry, so I can do pretty much anything I want. Potatoes, sausage, ketchup, they really know how to live on Earth."
"Well whatever you've got going on over there, it sure smells good," Goku said. "I used to cook fish when I lived alone, but Chi-Chi said I wasn't allowed in the kitchen anymore after I caused that fire."
"Hah. Typical," Luffa scoffed. "I've never met a Saiyan man who wasn't all thumbs over a stovetop. Oh, they like to brag about how good they are with their hands, but it never seems to pan out where it counts, if you know what I mean."
Goku laughed. "I know. One time Chi-Chi got this bookshelf for Gohan's room, and I tried to put it together for her and hoo-boy! That was a disaster."
Luffa stared at him incredulously. "No, I was talking about… never mind. You like pineapples, Kakarot?"
"Do I?!" Goku exclaimed.
"Thattaboy," Luffa said, grabbing a can of diced pinapples from the countertop. "So how much do you know about me, exactly? I'm kind of surprised you knew what Chronoa meant when she told you who I was."
"Hmm? Oh, you mean the Super Saiyan Legend." Goku said. "Vegeta told me about it, but he didn't say a lot about you personally. Just that you died a thousand years ago. Nobody said anything about you being a girl, either."
Luffa shrugged. She had already learned this from a Time Patrol mission on Namek, but the Goku she spoke to now was several years older, and she had hoped he would have heard more. It now seemed clear that his only source on Saiyan history was Vegeta, who only had so much information to share. "Better than nothing, I suppose," she finally said.
"I hope it didn't hurt too much," Goku added.
"What?" Luffa asked.
"I mean when you turned into a Super Saiyan for the first time. Things were pretty rough when it happened to me," he explained. "I was in really bad shape and Frieza was killing my friends. Later, when I thought about it, I realized the last Super Saiyan must have gone through the same thing. My boys had an easier time of it, but they're half-Earthling, and that seems to help 'em somehow. But with you and me and Vegeta, well, I think you have to get pushed pretty far to transform like that. I just hope you didn't suffer a lot when it happened."
"I did."
"Oh."
"I made them regret it, though," she said darkly.
"Yeah, I'll bet," Goku said with a knowing smile. "You're no pushover, Luffa. I can tell that just watchin' you chop that tomato. You're holdin' back a ton of power. You must have worked hard to keep it under control."
"I could say the same about you, Kakarot," she replied. "The way you sit there you'd think you were just some ordinary guy. You're not like any Saiyan I ever met before. Most of us wear it on our sleeves, but you, you're totally relaxed. Something tells me you're gonna stay that way right up until we're ready to start."
Goku simply chuckled.
"You must have kept it together a lot better than I did," Luffa said. "When you first transformed, I mean. All that Earth-style martial arts must have helped you regulate the form."
"Nah, it was pretty touch-and-go for a while. I was so mad at Frieza that I didn’t really want to rein it in, you know?"
"Heh. Yeah, tell me about it," Luffa said. "I didn’t mind until I ran out of things to fight, and then I realized I couldn’t turn it off. Fortunately I had some friends there to talk me down." She looked up from the eggs she was whisking. "I wouldn’t tell anyone else, Kakarot, but it scared the hell out of me. I thought I’d go crazy, or blow myself up, or…"
"Really?" Goku asked. "I thought you old-timer Saiyans knew all about that stuff."
She shook her head. "I guess the transformation itself never made it into the legends," Luffa said. "I knew about Chanisp and old Darbock and the other great heroes, but I never had any idea that they might have turned blonde to do the things they did. And none of those guys were women, so I don’t think anyone would have bothered filling me in. I had no idea what was happening to me."
"Wow, that must have been rough," Goku said.
"Well, like I said, I had someone there to help me. Same as you, I guess."
"No, I was mostly on my own," Goku said. "I mean, King Kai was keepin’ tabs on me from Otherworld, but I sent everyone else to get off the planet. After that, I spent a while in space before I made it to Planet Yardrat."
"I’ve heard of it," Luffa said. "In my era, it was said they developed some interesting techniques. Always wanted to go there… So they must have helped you get your powers under control."
Goku shook his head. "No, they showed me some things, but they weren’t very strong, so they didn’t know where to begin with that."
"Then how’d you--?"
There was a faraway look in his eye as he answered. "I was pretty scared myself at first, just like you were. But I remembered what Vegeta had said, about how scared Frieza was of a Super Saiyan showing up. And then Frieza asked me what I was, and I just knew. The story was true, and that meant that I wasn't the only one. There had to be another Saiyan, a long time ago, with the same power."
He locked eyes with Luffa and smiled. "And I knew if that old-timer Saiyan could handle it, then I could control it too. That was what kept me goin’. I had a couple of close calls on my way to Yardrat, and I almost wrecked my ship a few times. I probably would've lost control out in space and kicked the bucket, but I didn’t give up, because I knew he didn’t give up. Well, ’she’, I guess. Oops! Sorry, I guess I mean you, huh?"
"Are you saying I helped you?" she asked. Suddenly she caught a whiff of something burning, and she darted over to save one of her pans.
"Yeah, I guess so!" Goku said. "Boy this time travel stuff sure is funny, huh? Even though the Supreme Kai of Time told me who you were, I guess I didn’t think it through. I never imagined I’d get to thank you in person. And look at you! You must have been younger than me when you became a Super Saiyan, and you didn’t even have someone like Vegeta to tell you about it. Hey, what’s wrong? You okay over there?"
"N-Nothing," Luffa said with a sniffle. "It's fine. I just… hey, you like onions, right?"
"Sure! They’re great on chili dogs and all sorts of other things! Chi-Chi doesn’t like what they do to my breath, but I guess she doesn’t have to know…"
"Fine, because…" Luffa paused to wipe something from her face. "I’m chopping a whole bunch of onions. Yeah. Like, all of them. I won’t tell her if you don’t."
"You bet!" He suddenly had a very coy look on his face. "We’ll keep it between us Legendary Super Saiyans, right?"
"Right, Kakarot," she said with a stifled sob.
After eating, Luffa escorted Goku to the Time Plaza, where they were greeted by the Supreme Kai of Time, and Trunks. The rest of the Time Patrol was still hard at work on repairing the city, and there were construction details all around them. Trunks was usually very serious about his duty, but for once he was in very good humor. Chronoa, on the other hand, seemed mildly annoyed with them.
"You’re late," she said to Goku and Luffa when they arrived. "You know, it’s not polite to keep a Supreme Kai of Time waiting. Ironic, sure, but not very professional."
"Sorry, ma’am," Luffa said. "We would have been here sooner if someone had helped me with the dishes."
Goku simply rubbed the back of his scalp and laughed sheepishly. It was enough to charm Chronoa into a better mood, and Luffa began to wonder if this was his technique for getting out of chores. It seemed very likely that Son Goku had never washed a dish in his life.
"It’s all right," Chronoa said. "Without you two, Tokitoki City wouldn’t even be here. You’ve earned some downtime. How was breakfast?"
"Well I’ve had better omelets," Goku said, as he patted his belly, "but I sure can’t complain about the portions!"
"I’m standing right here, you insensitive oaf," Luffa said frostily. "And I don’t remember seeing you in the Crack of Time while I killed Demigra."
"Hey we had our hands full in the Time Nest," Goku said with a giggle.
As Luffa turned to Chronoa to discuss the logistics of their time-jump, and Trunks took Goku aside.
"Listen, Goku," he said, "I’m pretty busy right now, so I might not get a chance to say this before you head back to your own time, but could you--?"
Goku took his hand and shook it firmly. "When I get back, I’ll make sure to send Vegeta and Bulma your regards," he said. "You’ve accomplished a lot here, Trunks. Your father will be proud of everything you've built here. I know I sure am."
Trunks smiled. "It was good to see you again, Goku. Good luck with your fight."
"Hey, about that," Goku said, tugging his sleeve before Trunks could turn to leave. He leaned in and held his hand over one side of his face. "You’ve sparred with her before, right? Do you got any advice for me?"
"Did you bring a cup?" Trunks asked. His face suddenly bore an uncomfortable expression.
"What? No, we already ate, Trunks," Goku said. "What do I need a cup for? I’m not thirsty."
Trunks became even more anxious, and then he closed his eyes, as though resigned to the situation. "Never mind," he said. "You two have fun out there, okay?"
"Kakarot, are we doing this or not?!" Luffa demanded. "The door’s open, let’s go!"
"I’ll be right there!" Goku said. "Well, I gotta go, Trunks. Take care!"
Trunks watched him run off, then turned and shook his head. "It'll be fine," he said to himself as he walked off to attend to other matters. "They'll be just fine."
[9 May, Age 791. The Tuffle Planet.]
The Parallel Quest system in Toki Toki City relied upon a fleet of time machines, each modified to travel to various time fragments that had been preserved by Chronoa for research and training purposes. Time Patrollers would visit these fragments to experience moments in history, or to simulate mission scenarios they would encounter in the field. The main advantage of the fragments was that they each replicated a short span of time in the genuine universe, complete with many of the same events in the true history, but the fragments were completely isolated from the timeline. This meant that a Patroller could take almost any action in a PQ mission without altering history. The fragment would simply reset and return to its original state.
And so, this made the PQ system the ideal venue for two Super Saiyans to do battle. Any collateral damage would be of no consequence, and Goku and Luffa could fight as hard as they pleased. The only detail left would be to choose a proper setting for their battle, and Trunks had arranged this the night before. He had explained his choice to Luffa, but for Goku, this would be a surprise.
"Wow. So where are we anyway?" Goku asked as he peeked out of the dome-shaped canopy of the time machine.
"Planet Vegeta," Luffa said. "Or Plant, depending on who you ask. There’s a divergent timeline where a Tuffle machine mutant asked Shenron to recreate the whole planet inside Earth's solar system. He was planning to repopulate it with Earthlings infested with Tuffle spores, or something like that, but it didn’t pan out. Anyway, in this time frame, the planet we're on is deserted, so you and I can duke it out without any distractions."
They had both jumped out of the time machine as Luffa explained this, but Goku's attention was focused more on the horizon than on her words. The sky was crimson, with thin wispy clouds overhead. It almost looked like Earth around sunset, but the sun was still high above them, along with a large blue crescent. For a moment, Goku wondered if this was the moon, but then he sensed the ki from the living energy of the body, and recognized it as Earth.
The gravity was higher than on Earth, though it did not bother Goku at all. He had heard long ago that the Saiyan homeworld had a higher gravity, similar to that of King Kai's planet. Long ago, those conditions had given Goku some difficulty, but by now he was so acclimated to high-gravity environments that he barely noticed the difference. What truly made the planet look strange to him was the architecture. In the distance lay a city centered around a crater. A butte rose out of the middle of the crater, and on top of this stood a massive tower, with flying buttresses extending from all sides and reaching out to the city below like great steel tentacles. Goku had never seen anything like it in his travels. It was all quite strange to him.
And yet, there was something familiar about it at the same time.
"Say, I was born here, wasn’t I?" Goku asked.
"Yeah," Luffa said. "Trunks thought it would make a good neutral battlefield for us. It’s a Saiyan home-world, so we know it can take a pounding, but it’s new to both of us. You were sent away as a baby, and I've never been here before. I can see why Saiyans would want to live here, though. It is kind of pleasant to look at, don’t you think?"
"I guess," Goku said. "But it seems kind of creepy with all these buildings and no one else around. Besides, we ain’t here to admire the view."
"Damn straight," Luffa said. "Listen, before we get down to business, I have a request."
"Huh? A request? Okay, shoot."
"I don't know about you, but I've wanted something like this for years," Luffa said. "I never imagined I'd actually get to meet one of the old Super Saiyans, or that I'd live long enough to see the next guy… well, you. So just getting to fight you is a big deal for me."
"I'm pretty excited about it too," Goku said.
"Well, the thing is, there's no guarantee that we're evenly matched," Luffa said. "The fight will settle that, but we're from different eras. If Chronoa had contacted the Kakarot from five years earlier, you'd be five years weaker than you are today."
"I think I follow you," Goku said, though his expression suggested otherwise. "
"Look, there's a chance one of us could overwhelm the other," Luffa said. "I'm a lot stronger than I was when I first transformed, and I know you've come a long way yourself, but what are the odds that were dead even in this moment?"
"I guess we'll just have to find out," Goku said as he started rotating his shoulders to limber up.
"Of course, but what I'm getting at is that we shouldn't be in a hurry to settle things," Luffa said. "Even if this turns out to be a mismatch, it's still special to me. So let's take our time and savor the moment. It's a special occasion, you know? I bet every Super Saiyan before us wishes they could be doing what we're about to do."
"All right, that works for me," Goku said. "I'll ramp things up if it gets too dull, but otherwise… yeah, we oughta drag this out as long as we can."
"Good," Luffa said as she adjusted her gloves. "Now that that's settled, we ought to start out as Super Saiyans, right? Seems kind of appropriate."
Goku nodded. "Ladies first," he said.
Luffa nodded curtly and threw her head back as she transformed. Golden flames flickered around her as her hair glowed with a harsh yellow light.
"Incredible," Goku said. "From the feel of it, you’re more used to this form than your normal state."
"Let’s get on with this," Luffa said. "Or are you going to make me wait another thousand years?"
Goku balled his fists and widened his stance. He made a sort of humming noise as he gathered his energy, and then he cried out as he unleashed it into his transformation. His hair now glowed just like Luffa’s, and their fiery auras mingled together.
"A lot like Trunks," Luffa said. "I should have noticed it before. He said it was your son who trained him. But I couldn’t sense any of this in you over breakfast. It’s like you’re a whole other person now." She bent her knees and settled into a defensive posture. "Ready?"
Goku crouched and angled his body to one side, pointing his right knee towards Luffa. He lowered his hands just below his chest, and kept them slightly open, as though ready to grab or punch at a moment’s notice.
"Yeah! Let’s do this!" he said. But neither of them moved. Anxious as they were to begin, neither wanted to open with a mistake.
And then suddenly, without warning, they both rushed towards each other. Luffa landed the first blow, but it was only a glancing strike, as Goku had twisted his upper body to avoid it. He tried to bring his knee up to Luffa’s midsection, but she somersaulted out of range. Once she landed, she leaped towards him to hit him from behind, but Goku spun around and caught her in the face with his forearm. She toppled over, but just as her body had reached a certain angle, she swung up her leg and kicked at Goku’s face. He blocked this, but not the second kick she threw with her other leg a split second later. Then she broke her fall and launched herself into the air, where she held out her arms, expecting to exchange ki blasts from a distance
Then suddenly Goku was behind her. She had sensed his movement, but her position had left her ill-prepared to react. He grabbed her arm and started swinging her around. Then, to his surprise, she grabbed hold with her other arm, and started applying her own power to spin him. To an outside observer, it would have looked like a mid-air figure-skating routine, sped up to an absurd degree.
At last, they separated, and Goku went crashing to the ground, his body carving a trench as he slid into the ruddy earth of his birthworld. He scrambled to get back to his feet, but found Luffa was already standing over him.
"You like to toy with your opponents, too," she said. The she kicked him in the chest and sent him flying. An instant later she was beside Goku, flying under her own power to match Goku’s trajectory.
"We’ve got a lot in common," she added.
She raised her hands and gave him a double axehandle to his back, sending him back down to the ground. This time Goku landed on his hands and knees, but Luffa was once again right there to meet him.
"It’s weird, right?" she asked. "Like having a brother--wulp!!"
This time Goku was ready for her. When she tried to kick him in the ribs, he leaped up into a handstand to avoid it, then swung out one of his legs for a kick to her jaw. She barely managed to duck this, but not the palm strike which followed. For a moment, she stumbled backward, clutching her face, and Goku used the opening to flip himself upright again.
"I had a brother," Goku said. He was as cheerful as ever, but there was an edge to his voice as he said: "I was hopin’ you’d be more of a challenge than he was."
When she recovered and turned to face him again, she looked like she had been chopping onions again. She looked furious for a moment, then she made a vicious smile. "Bored already?" she asked. "If you want to turn it up, Kakarot, go right ahead. I can handle anything you want to throw at me."
"Is that so?" Goku asked. "You’re wide open, Luffa. You’re bein’ way too sloppy for you to be talkin’ like that. You must be up to something."
"I’m just used to giving other Saiyans a handicap, that’s all," she said. "Especially the men. I know how hard it is for your egos when you can’t even land a little offense."
"It is kinda frustratin’, I won’t argue with that," Goku said. "But I’ve tagged you a few times already, so you don’t need to worry about me anymore."
Suddenly he vanished, and before Luffa could react he was directly in front of her, his right hand closing in on her trapezius. She managed to tilt to one side to avoid it, but this was only a feint. She realized this only when Goku’s other hand had collided with her gut, knocking the wind out of her.
"You'd better start blocking my hits from now on," he said ominously. "You won't last long like this."
"Why not?" She gasped. She recovered and looked him dead in the eye. "If that’s all you’ve got, I can play with you all day!"
Goku was impressed, but not so surprised that he forgot to prepare another strike. He raised his hand for a punch to her face, but she foiled this by swinging her own arm across to deflect it, slapping him across the cheeks in the process.
The attack stung Goku’s pride more than anything else.
Instinctively, he retaliated in kind, slapping Luffa with his own open palm. Her head recoiled from the blow, but she immediately responded with an even harder slap. They went on like this for several seconds, until Luffa went for a punch instead. Goku blocked it and returned fire.
From here, their fight descended into a stalemate, as both Super Saiyans threw punches at close quarters, with neither landing a direct hit. The rhythm of punches, blocks, and dodges was almost soothing in its way. It was almost too soothing for Luffa, as Goku angled his body to avoid her fist and then kept turning, setting up a spin kick. His boot connected with her right flank, but she was able to roll with it enough to dampen the impact.
For a moment, it seemed the stalemate was broken, as Goku relied on his kicks to keep Luffa at a safe distance. He was taller, which gave him an advantage in reach. As long as he kept up his momentum and moved his legs to where they needed to be, Luffa couldn't get close enough to strike back. Ki blasts were always an option, but neither of them were ready to go there. In the moment, it meant more to Luffa to overcome him without changing the terms of battle. And so she continued to play along, flying around Goku and searching for an opening to strike. Likewise, Goku continued to keep up his game, daring Luffa to find a solution instead of shifting to a new tactic.
The answer was simple enough. Goku had longer limbs, but there was one reach Luffa possessed that he did not. She goaded Goku into throwing kicks that extended his leg as far as possible. Each time she avoided his feet, but sometimes he would graze her skin with the soles of his boots. Then, at last, she moved in close enough for him to land a strike, and she caught his leg in her arms. This left her wide open, and Goku went for a punch, but then Luffa flipped around and caught him on the jaw with the tip of her tail.
The strike wasn't hard enough to knock Goku back, but it did rattle him enough to break his guard, allowing Luffa to release his leg and deliver a heavy knee to his abdomen. This sent him flying backward through the air until he managed to recover and stop himself.
Luffa was already on top of him to press her attack. Earlier, she had kept her tail out of the fight, lulling Goku into a false sense that she would not, or could not use it offensively. Now, she used it along with her arms and legs, battering Goku on all sides, whirling around like a top.
She had inspired him! This thought continued to percolate through Luffa's mind as she pressured him. Despite the centuries between them, despite her story being lost to time and suppressed by her enemies, some small part of Luffa's example had still managed to find its way to her successor. It had brought her to tears in the cafeteria, and now that they were fighting in earnest, she could pour her emotions into combat. It was more than she dared to hope for, and now she could show him what she truly was, and inspire him to achieve even greater things.
To his credit, Goku continued to block and dodge her attacks without giving up any ground. Now it was his turn to find a solution without escalating the battle or shifting to a different scenario. She expected him to grab her tail, much the same way she had foiled his kicks by targeting his leg. It only made sense for him to try this, since she would have to face away from him to attack with her tail, and if he managed to get a good grip on her, he would have a free shot. But this was not what happened.
Instead, as she spun around, she found Goku holding his hands in front of his face. For an instant, she wondered why he had left his guard down and moved in to capitalize. In the next instant, she regretted falling for his trap, as Goku suddenly cried out "Taiyo-ken!"
Suddenly, the world went white around Luffa, and she found herself unable to see anything. Even her ki senses were dazzled by the brilliance. She had encountered this technique before during Time Patrol missions, but she hadn't expected Goku to employ such a maneuver, and not in this situation. Now that it had happened, Luffa was forced to back off, and she anticipated a heavy strike.
Instead, when the blow came, it was far lighter than she had anticipated. Luffa barely managed to block it, having detected Goku's approach with her other senses. She did not, however, manage to deflect the second strike, or the third, and so on. By now, her vision was returning, but she found herself too imperiled to actually make any use of it. Goku was all over her, hitting her from all sides.
At last, Luffa became frustrated enough to put a stop to it. Raising her power, she suddenly caught each of Goku's hands as he struck, and used her knees to deflect his kicks. Soon, their melee battle had ended, and was now a test of strength. They each pushed against the other, with their fingers interlocked together.
"Impressive, Kakarot," Luffa grunted to him as they struggled. "You don't seem quite as strong as you were when you fought… Lord Beerus… but it seems like some of that god power must have rubbed off on you."
"Thanks," Goku said. "Lord Beerus told me that my body must have 'memorized' the god form somehow. I can't turn into a Super Saiyan God on my own, but I can still use some of that power in my regular Super Saiyan form."
"You're… going… to need it!" Luffa growled as she pushed harder. Their struggle had begun in the air, but the two of them slowly floated to the ground, as each of them sought something solid to stand on to improve their position.
"I can't… argue with that!" Goku replied. "You're really… urrgh… really something, Luffa. To think… you got this far… in such a short time…"
"I got a lot farther than this," Luffa said with a smirk. "Let me show you."
"Huh?" Goku began to ask, but before he could say anything else, Luffa increased her ki, and began to force Goku backward. Unable to resist her, all he could do was take a step back, and then another, and another. He tried to pull free of her, only to find that Luffa wouldn't let go.
"Confused?" Luffa asked. "Let me make it simple for you."
With a loud yelp, she pushed him harder and faster, causing Goku to lose his footing altogether. She now shoved him backward, driving him faster and faster until they crashed into something. When the dust settled, Goku realized they had plowed through a mesa and caused it to collapse. But Luffa still wouldn't let go, and she swung him around and smashed him into one of the largest portions of the mesa that was still standing.
Her grip seemed to be inescapable, but as Luffa prepared to fling him into something else, Goku brought up his legs and slipped them between their arms. Once he had threaded the space between them, Goku bent his knees around Luffa's arms, and applied enough pressure to force her to let go of his hands. With his arms freed, Goku could then take advantage of the position, and while he had Luffa's arms caught in his legs, he brought his hands together and drove them down on her head with tremendous force.
Luffa stumbled backward as they separated, and Goku followed up with an elbow smash aimed between her neck and left shoulder. She seemed dazed, but just before he could connect, she recovered and dropped to the ground. This threw Goku off-balance just enough for her to slide between his ankles and get behind him. Before he could turn around, she was back on her feet and wrapping her arms around his belly.
"What the--?" Goku asked. The answer was: back suplex.
With a savage grunt, Luffa threw herself backward and pulled Goku along with her, driving him head-first to the ground. That was her plan, anyway. What she hadn't counted on was Goku's reversal. He made a grunt of his own on the way down, and his golden aura flashed more intensely as he applied his power. He raised his hands so that they would hit the ground first, and when they made contact he generated a force through his legs that propelled his body forward, adding to the momentum of Luffa's throw. This allowed him to perform something like a handstand, but with Luffa still hanging onto his waist.
It was an awkward position, but more awkward for Luffa, who now had to decide whether to release her grip or take her chances on whatever Goku would do next. Before she could choose, Goku took flight, and grabbed hold of her wrists, trapping her. He then flew backwards, angling towards a large rock formation in the distance. But just as they reached it, Luffa's hands began to glow…
The planet was deserted, but if an observer had been there to witness the battle, they would have seen the two Super Saiyans collide with the hillside while simultaneously blasting it apart with an explosive wave of golden ki energy. The entire hill was blanketed with a cloud of dust and debris, which all glowed red from the residual energy of the blast. And when the color faded, and the dust cleared, this hypothetical observer would have found both Super Saiyans floating over what was left of the hill, completely unscathed.
"You managed to dodge that?" Luffa asked. "I'm impressed."
"I could say the same to you, Luffa," Goku said with a smirk. "You're no slouch, that's for sure."
"All right, maybe it's time we picked up the pace," Luffa said. "I was a little worried that the planet might get damaged, but from what I've seen, it looks like it'll be tough enough to handle this."
"Yeah," Goku said. "As long as nobody shoots straight down, I think we'll be all right. We are using blasts from here on, right?"
"Of course," Luffa replied. "As far as I'm concerned, everything's on the table. Oh, I get it… you were waiting for me to do it first, just to prove you didn't need to resort to that."
"Heh… Something like that," Goku said.
"Games within games, huh?" Luffa said. "There's more to you than meets the eye, Kakarot. Well, I'd say we're done with the warm up. Let's move on to the next stage."
As they circled each other in the air, both of them raised their arms and prepared to continue.

Synopsis: Casey Jones is patrolling the sleepy streets of Northampton, Massachusetts looking for some crimes to prevent. Northampton is nothing like New York City, however, so the mighty Casey is occupying his spare time as a vigilante by narrating events as if he were Mike Hammer. Jones is a little homesick for the Big Apple, but he's also reminiscing about the good times he had in this town as a kid with his cousin Sid. As Casey walks familiar ground, he passes by Louie's Variety store and is stunned by what he sees… the brass cow that once served as a rooftop landmark for the business has been stolen! Jones is enraged and gets to work on the case right away.
As Casey interviews Louie for details, a local cop walks in and assures the shopkeeper that the theft was probably just a college prank and that the cow will show up soon. Casey gets angry about the police officer's base attitude, which only angers the cop, who tells Jones to "Butt out—pronto!" Casey storms off, vowing to find the cow.
The following morning, we find April frantically getting ready for work and asking where Casey is. Just then Casey walks through the door, icicles hanging from his hat and chin. Jones moans that he's been out all night looking for "the great cow" and collapses. Fortunately it's nothing serious, and Casey tries to explain about the theft, but April is running late and hurries off to work.
Cut to the Blue Bonnet Diner, where April is waiting tables. As Ms. O'Neil is going through her stubs, she overhears two men plotting something about a cow. One of the men slaps the other and tells him that if he has any info he should leave it at the front desk of Hotel Northampton, room 213. April is suspicious and tries to remember where she heard about a cow earlier in the day when she sees the newspaper headlines—the top story is about the missing cow!
Back at the farm house, Casey is trying to get the disinterested Turtles to help him when April calls. O'Neil tells Jones about the conversation she overheard, but unfortunately the man who slapped his partner overhears April's phone conversation and becomes alarmed. Casey takes down the hotel information and slams the phone down in his excitement over having a lead. April is unhappy because she wanted to go along.
Casey gets to the hotel and tries to get the woman at the front desk to tell him who's in room 213, but all he manages to do is get thrown out of the joint. As Jones sits on the stoop outside wondering what to do next, April arrives. April thinks she can have better luck getting the information, and she goes inside. As Fate would have it, just as O'Neil gets into the lobby, the slapping man (whose name is Howard) walks through with another fellow. April overhears the two making plans. Apparently Howard works for the older Texan man and they are making elaborate plans for a graduation party.
Later that night, April, Casey and the turtles arrive at the parking lot of the Hotel Northampton. Casey has asked the turtles to search room 213, and while the guys aren't happy about doing it, they agree. Jones and O'Neil crash the posh graduation party inside.
The Turtles find a bunch of paperwork and photographs of the Texan, Howard and the Brass Cow—however, they also discover they're in room 215—the wrong place!
As April is prowling the party looking for clues, she's spotted by Howard. O'Neil darts out into the lobby, where she's accosted by three men, Mikal Smengie and his brothers Luka and Luka. Unfortunately April has stumbled into a rendezvous between the Smengie Brothers and the Texan… a ten million dollar meeting that they all want to keep secret. Howard gags April and tells the Brothers to take her with them. Howard also give Mikal a briefcase full of money and an address. The Texan complains about loose ends and Howard says that he'll take care of things.
Back in the hotel room, the turtles decide that this case is too complicated and the police need to be notified. As they head out, they see April being kidnapped. The guys scramble down to the parking lot, but they're too late to stop the van holding their friend from escaping. The Turtles pile into their truck and head off to chase the van.
Casey goes into a rest room inside the hotel to gather his thoughts. He sits on top of a toilet in an empty stall as two guys come in. Jones overhears the two talking about a "prize cow" at Norman Whitty's place on Route 116. After the men leave, Casey dashes out to the parking lot to get his truck so he can investigate… except the truck is gone! Undaunted, Casey hails a cab.
Meanwhile the Turtles have followed the van to an old garage in the woods. Inside are the three brothers carrying weapons, a bound April and a well wrapped cow. As April berates her captors and warns them that she has friends, the Turtles burst in and kick the shell outta the Smengies. Once the Brothers are tied to a post, the Turtles interrogate them. The men talk to one another in Slovakian, which angers Raph and he threatens them. Under duress, Mikal explains that the brass cow was stolen from his family by their other brother Louie before the revolution. They've returned to steal the brass cow back and to sell it to Mr. Cudworth, who collects antique cows. April finds the story dubious, as ten million dollars is involved. Raph gets even angrier and decides to bash the cow to bits. Mikal then panics and exclaims that the cow is solid gold, and that they had stolen it before the revolution so that the new dictator wouldn't be able to use its wealth. They now want to sell it and share the wealth with their people.
Leo is suspicious, but he wants to see how things will play out before calling the police. In particular, Leonardo is interested in the Texan's role in these events. Leo hatches a plan that will allow them to get the real story.
Back at the hotel, the Texan receives a phone call from Leonardo, who tells the rich man that the deal goes down tonight and that they want an additional 5 million dollars. This does not please the Texan but he gathers up his forces and heads out.
Meanwhile, Casey has arrived at Norman's place on Route 116 in the taxi. Casey is jubilant about finding the cow and heads into the barn with glee—only to discover that the cow inside is real! Just then, Norman shows up with a shotgun and yells at Casey to get away from his prize winning heifer. Jones fast talks his way out of things and piles back into the cab, ordering the very unhappy driver to take him back to the hotel.
Back at the Smengie garage, the Turtles are all decked out in trench coats and firearms, awaiting their meeting with the Texan. The men show up and the Turtles demand the money. Howard asks where the Smengie Brothers are and the Texan demands to see the cow. Mike unwraps the cow only to reveal that it's a fake! As tempers flare, the Smengies crash through the garage door in a flatbed truck, with the real "brass" cow chained to the bed. A short fire fight erupts between the Texan's men and the Turtles, but the millionaire and his henchmen take off to chase the Smengies. The turtles pile into their own truck and bolt out in hot pursuit.
As the Smengie's truck barrels down the road, they pass Casey's cab. Jones grabs the wheel of the car and spins it around. The driver is scared to death and Casey screams at him to "follow that cow!" The cab gains on the truck and Casey jumps out onto the hood of the taxi and leaps onto the cow. Jones causes Mikal to crash the vehicle into a ditch and shouts, "You pukes are under arrest!"
Just then the Texan shows up, and Howard yells, "Correction! You're all under arrest!" As the millionaire wonders what's going on, Howard explains that he's an undercover secret service agent. It turns out that the Texan (whose name isn't Cudworth, it's actually Emil Bruzeniak) is in the business of buying and selling stolen national treasures. Howard has been working for Bruzeniak for two years, waiting to build enough evidence to bust him. Howard calls in his backup and two helicopters appear. The turtles and April arrive on the scene. The turtles bail out of the truck as April drives up to see what's going on.
When April arrives, Howard wants to hear why she and Casey are involved in the case. Jones explains everything in long detail and Howard demands to talk to the four men who helped April escape. April tells the secret agent that her allies wish to remain anonymous and pleads that they all be let go, as everything turned out fine. The agent begrudgingly admits that Casey and April helped solve the case and agrees to forget about their friends' involvement, filing it under "unmentionables." Casey and April walk off arm in arm as the criminals are lead off in handcuffs.
The turtles have witnessed everything from the safety of the woods.
"That's us, huh guys," Leo quips, "the Unmentionables."
"Ain't it the truth." adds Mikey.

Queer as Folk (US) Locations - Main Locations
This part includes Babylon, Woody's, Liberty Diner, gyms, houses, workplaces and schools. Most of these places are only for outdoor scenes. The indoor was shot on studio or other locations.
The Hangouts
1. Babylon
Tumblr media
The entrance of the club is on Duncan Street, and the pole where Justin leans on is on the corner of Duncan Street and Nelson Street. I'm not sure if the pole still exists, and the parking lot is now a building. (from episode 101)
2. Woody's
Tumblr media
Woody's (and Moosies in episode 413) is at 467 Church Street. (from episode 102)
3. Liberty Diner
Tumblr media
During the show, the diner is on two locations. On season 1-2, the diner is at 894 Queen Street West. On season 3-4, the diner moves to 354 King Street East. (from episode 102 and 409)
4. The Gym
Tumblr media
The gym is also on two locations. On season 1, the gang works out at 675 Yonge Street. Later, they work out on other gym at 258 The Esplanade. It seems that both gyms are no longer exist. (from episode 102 and 403)
The Houses
5. Brian's loft
Tumblr media
Brian lives at 6 Church Street. (from episode 307)
6. Michael's apartment and house
Tumblr media
Michael and Emmett, and later with Ben and Hunter lives at 7 Glen Road. On season 5, the boys move to Brooklyn Avenue. (from episode 314 and 501)
7. Melanie and Lindsay's house
Tumblr media
During the show, the girls and Gus live in two houses. The first one, on season 1, 3-5, they live at 178 Crawford Street. On season 2, they live on Kendal Avenue. (from episode 513 and 213)
Tumblr media
However, it seems that the second house is also where Lindsay's parents live. (from episode 207 and 213)
8. Debbie's house
Debbie's house is the most inconsistent during the show. I noticed that there are five houses and three back parts of the house.
Tumblr media
On season 1, Debbie, Vic and later Justin live on Beatrice Street. However, I cannot locate the alleys/backyard where other scenes take place. (from episode 108, 117 and 121)
Tumblr media
On season 2, Debbie and Vic move to 87 Crawford Street. The backyard where they rake the leaves is on Lane South Queen East Shaw. (from episode 214 and 207)
Tumblr media
On season 4, Debbie and Emmett live in two houses. The first one is on Bellwoods Avenue. The second one is on Heward Avenue. (from episode 406 and 412)
Tumblr media
On season 5, Debbie and Emmett live on Bertmount Avenue. (from episode 501)
9. Justin's house (and Daphne's)
Tumblr media
On season 1, The Taylors live on Bobwhite Crescent. After they sell the house, they move to Mendota Road. (from episode 102 and 201)
Tumblr media
Daphne lives on Bobwhite Crescent, too. Just like the OG UK version, where the teens live on the same street. (from episode 104)
10. Vic and Rodney's house
Tumblr media
The men now get their own place on Gloucester Street. (from episode 405 and 406)
11. Other places
Tumblr media
David and Michael live on Taylorwood Drive
The Kinneys live on Lanor Avenue
Ben lives in an apartment on St. Joseph Street, but that particular scene is on Irwin Avenue
(from episode 111, 115 and 209)
The Workplaces and Schools
12. Brian's office and Kinnetik
Tumblr media
The show wants us to think that Brian works on Metro Hall. However, I'm not sure if both Ryder Advertising and Vangard Advertising are in there. It looks like both places are inside other actual building rather than studio. (from episode 114, 217 and 306)
Tumblr media
Later, Brian opens his own agency, Kinnetik, on ex Bathhouse on Nicholson Lane. (from episode 403)
13. Melanie's office
Tumblr media
Melanie and the partners' law firm is at 3 Sultan Street. (from episode 121)
14. Michael's supermarket and comic book store
Tumblr media
Michael used to work at Big Q, which was on actual store called Zellers at 1255 The Queensway (now closed). Later, he opens his own comic book store at 607A Queen Street West. (from episode 112 and 409)
15. Other places
Emmett works at Torso, which is at 880 Queen Street West (near the Diner on season 1-2).
The source says that the classes scenes are in Seneca College. However, I cannot locate those places.
16. Justin and Daphne's school
Tumblr media
They studied at Ursula Franklin Academy. Some scenes were taken on Evelyn Crescent. (from episode 104)
17. Hunter's school
Tumblr media
On season 3-4, The Susquehanna High School is on Jarvis Collegiate Institute, 495 Jarvis Street. On season 5, it looks like Hunter goes to different school, which I cannot locate. (from episode 313 and 505)

So I did a tier rank list for Leverage before I do my full rewatch, with episodes based off of memory (some I even had to look up what they were!). I wonder how controversial these opinions are, if at all.
S = Absolute Favorite
A = Love them!
B = Enjoy Them!
C = Average episode but still like them
D = Meh/Boring/Dislike
Tumblr media
....I also wonder if that's even legible! Just in case, I'll do a read more with the breakdown typed out. (and FYI, in C tier, they're all fairly interchangeable. Other tiers feel about right. Also two part finale episodes are always combined together as one.) (and yes, I'm aware that I have a bias for earlier seasons, partially because I have rewatched them more frequently just from starting from E1 then going on, and partially because I genuinely think that they are better.)

Evelyn's life - at least the version on record as of now is enough for ten soap operas. There's the early marriage that ended in divorce when she was eighteen. Then the studio set-up courtship and tumultuous marriage to Hollywood royalty Don Adler. The rumors that she left him because he beat her. Her comeback in a French New Wave film. The quickie Vegas elopement with singer Mick Riva. Her glamorous marriage to the dapper Rex North, which ended in both of them having affairs. The beautiful love story of her life with Harry Cameron and the birth of their daughter, Connor. Their heartbreaking divorce and her very quick marriage to her old director Max Girard. Her supposed affair with the much younger Congressman Jack Easton, which ended her relationship with Girard. And finally her marriage to financer Robert Jamison, rumored to have at least been inspired by Evelyn's desire to spite former costar - and Robert's sister - Celia St. James. All of her husbands have passed away, leaving Evelyn as the only one with insight into those relationships.
