it always amazes me how people can look at mcu steve rogers and see all the babygirl in his eyes and then declare "that man is a top. a selfish stone top." like... do you have eyeballs? do you not see the pillow princess pout he has? and vice versa. they look at mcu bucky evaluating which spiked flogger he's going to use on steve just for the hell of it not bc steve needs to be punished and they go "that's babygirl." do you know how offended steve would be? bucky would just be confused. but steve would be offended.

So I'm not typically a Stony shipper because Stucky supremacy, but I see Stony as more of a fling. It's the first time Steve actually allows himself to express his feelings openly for a man, but it would never work out between them

Steve would want something serious and Tony just wants to be casual at the place he is in life then. They'd been arguing for awhile before Bucky comes back, but once Bucky is back Steve decides it's time to end things with Tony because he can't deny the feelings he still has for his best friend and because he knows him and Tony won't work out long term if neither of them change and he doesn't want to make Tony feel forced to choose between his life and Steve

Imagine if that had happened though but Steve actually sits down with Tony and tells him why he thinks they need to break it off and he explains *everything*

Everything from thinking that Bucky had died only days before he went in the ice and that they could reunite in death to not wanting to force Tony to change anything about himself for Steve to happier and that's the first time Tony sees Steve truly vulnerable and it's when they're breaking up

But Tony sees something else too, something he hadn't seen before. Steve is scared that Tony is going to judge him and be angry with him but Tony knew deep down that they would never work out unless Tony settled down or Steve loosened up, neither of which seemed likely in their current life positions. The other thing that Tony sees is Steve's mental illness that he had worked so hard to hide from everyone, even from Tony and Sam. Steve had wanted to be with Bucky so badly that he was willing to unalive himself to see his "best friend" again

Tony loved Steve, but not the kind of love that either of them needed or wanted, and he can't be angry with Steve for realizing that and having an actual adult conversation about it

You could keep everything the same within the Captain America trilogy but make either Steve or Bucky a woman and they would have been a canon couple faster than you could say Marvel. The only reason they are not canon is because they are both men. No, I will not stop being mad about this.

Okay but being a tiny living with Steve and Bucky and getting all cuddled between them maybe on the bed and helping them when they are in sad times for their work and- okay yeah honestly I'm saying this because I wanna lay on those super soldier pecs :)

And then Bucky actually does wade in and pull him out of the water in Winter Soldier.

the original draft version of the first avenger script is available online and as someone who is desperate for every crumb of mcu steve content i can get, here’s a list of some of the lines and moments i wish they had kept in the finalized version of the film.

1. steve saying both his parents were fighters (and he is too).

2. steve suggesting they go to church and bucky just going ‘hmmmm….no thanks’.

3. this is the one that makes me feel most insane: steve mentioning that sarah used to let him stand on her feet and dance with her in their apartment when he was small.

4. this line that validates my long-held headcanon that steve doesn’t actually know how to swim before the serum and only learns on the fly after.

5. the train/fall scene originally having bucky take the shield and jump in front of a shot meant for steve + steve actually being able to grab his hand and pull him in for a split second.

6. this explanation of the dynamic between steve and bucky of bucky always being steve’s lifeline/anchor and how that stayed the same even after the serum.
