So, back when this was being marketed in Australia and I saw the trailer, I noped out of seeing this because it just seemed quite dumb. Also, buddy cop movies can be a bit of a miss if their not done correctly..we've been through the buddy cop phase already and when they tried to reinvent the style of "buddy cop", it doesn't always work. But since.. I'm a fan of Bautista..why the hell not give it a watch nearly 5 years later.... Using "The Clapping Song" during an action sequence seems like an odd choice. It didn't suit the mood of the scene. I don't know what they wanted to convey with that song. I feel like Stuber tried to be like lethal weapon, expect if lethal weapon was made now and not back in the '80s. Cause you've got Bautista playing the "play by the book, I'm too old for this shiz routine.." aka Murtaugh. While you've got Nanjiani whose just along for the ride (quite literally), I wouldn't compare him to Riggs cause he seems to calm to try to embody Mel Gibson's insanity. Ah. Gotcha. Bautisa is both Riggs and Murtaugh, which is this struggled to work. You can't have one character play both the "I'm too old for this shiz.." and "I'm reckless, let's die.." , the whole point of buddy cop movies is its a "BUDDY" movie..not one guy with dual roles. I think the worse part of this movie is that Vic and Stu don't really change, neither really go through the realisation of their ego could be in the wrong. Stu stays his "ah..let me be naive" mindset while Vic still playing both Murtaugh and Riggs. Stuber Micro Review - Stubber is an action/comedy buddy cop movie that is far more comedy than action. The film's premise of a blinded cop (Bautista) who is forced to use Uber (Nqnjiani) is a clever, fresh and comedic take on the genre. Unfortunately, the film's supporting elements such as the main villain as well as the general plot are at best formulaic. Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista as coleads are wonderfully juxtaposed - Bautista's the hardened old school 80s masculinity driven cop playing against Nqnjiani's new age in touch with his feelings Uber driver. I'm left wondering how much of their banter was scripted or ad libbed as it flowed so well. Regardless, both characters find a full satisfying character arch. While the film never gave me a splitting my sides moment of laughter, Stuber is consistently funny throughout the movie. When Bautista and Nquijani are on camera the film really works and worth the price of a ticket.
