The Strawberry Statement - or, How I Experienced the ‘Sixties Revolution’
Late night viewing when I was a young teen, mostly because I had a crush on Kim Darby, and I had also recently seen 'Willard' and was probably drawn to seeing Bruce Davidson in something different. Don't remember much about this, other than the sixties counterculture trappings, sit ins and demonstrations (also don't remember that Bud Cort was in this). I remember a feeling, in the mid seventies when I was entering my teens, that I had somehow missed out on all the action regarding the birth of sex, drugs and rock and roll in the turbulent sixties, and my generation was left holding the messy afterbirth. Since I was approximately 10 years old when I was experiencing the 'hippie' era, and it was mostly through a bad hollywood prism.

An airplane carring coffee beans from South America has some unpleasant stowaways: a hoard of tarantulas which overcome the pilots as the airplane is flying over an orange-producing town in California. The airplane crashes, and the unlucky inhabitants of the town release the poisonous spiders into their midst. Once the town's officials discover that the tarantulas are responsible for several deaths, the tarantulas have already descended upon the town's only orange-processing factory. The town's citizens risk their lives to remove the tarantulas from the factory while the poisonous pests are rendered motionless by the transmitted sound of buzzing bees.

The Strawberry Statement *** (1970, Bruce Davison, Kim Darby, Bud Cort) – Classic Movie Review 9426
Director Stuart Hagmann’s 1970 drama The Strawberry Statement is an interesting, extremely well-acted but uneasy and hesitant college confrontation youth movie with an excitingly staged violent clash between students and the authorities at the climax.
Kim Darby stars as the college girl Linda who radicalises nice, apolitical rowing team San Francisco college student Simon (Bruce Davison), ending…
