would i say that cléo is a controversial figure? not really. or at least—not controversial in the way you’re thinking. cléo just has a big heart, even if her outward demeanor convinces anyone otherwise. and it’s her heart that lands her in controversial areas.

in 2019, cléo would land herself in muddy waters — no pun intended — with her first ‘scandal’ of sorts. fans noticed that she was a bit too friendly with stray kids’ backup dancers, one of which was revealed to be member of popular dance crew royal family, dante anderson - lewis. while netizens thought the friendship was cute, other fans would follow the duo around to their hangouts and gatherings, eventually capturing them on what seemed like a nighttime romantic bike ride through the streets of seoul. the pictures would reach popular kpop sites overnight, thrusting the pair into unwanted spotlight.

while cléo nor jype would make a statement about this, lewis would make a post poking fun at the whole ordeal with a post of him gifting her flowers titled ‘baby’s first dating scandal!’. lewis would have to clarify that the post was a joke in a top comment, later deleting the post altogether.

as expected, since the incident of sorts blew over quickly, netizens don’t count this as cléo’s first scandal. it would be two years later that an even worse story would break the news, thrusting her into scrutiny and making her the subject of debates concerning artist treatment and idol culture.

but as you probably already know… things aren’t as simple anymore. but now that you have the general gist of the background, now it’s time to get into the real meat of the scandal.

so just in case you’re lost, cause this is a lot of information, here’s a brief summary of what has happened so far:

- roh junseo (cleowrld) finds 3racha in 2017

- cléo debuts in 2018 as a part of a 9 member group. the earliest cleowrld post dates back to 2018 as well.

- cléo and dante ‘scandal’ in 2019. netizens don’t care much at all besides *those* people. dowon gains success in *hotel de luna* the same year.

- premiere of the ten year pact in seoul in 2020. cléo is selected to sing its ost. dowon and cléo meet for the first time at the premiere. junseo and caila, a fangirl of dowon, meet the same year.

- junseo leaks cléo’s personal account to dispatch in sept 2021, which starts the dating rumors. cléo’s phone number is leaked, as well as some horrific messages sent to her, and she is put on indefinite hiatus by the end of the month.

good? great. awesome. this is incredibly heartbreaking and i honestly wish nothing but the best for cléo always and the fucking worst for everyone who made her life horrible always.

now this part will be rejuvenating. now we get to the part where we unravel just who the hell seok dowon is.

seok dowon’s true colors.

the apologies. one somewhat expected, one definitely not.

and then things went quiet. in total cléo was on hiatus for like seven months ( sept 21 - mar 22 ), and then stray kids had their first comeback without her as eight with oddinary. it was to be expected—she was summoned to court in april and won her case against dowon for charges of physical and emotional violence and financial fraud. jype also sued junseo and caila for the damages caused by leaking private information, also winning those respective cases. not much is known about the compensation afterwards, but it is to be noted that cléo donated to a handful of violence prevention initiatives not long after.

and then dowon retaliated on his own.

seok dowon makes his (unwanted) return.

now it’s been a year or so since cléo went on her hiatus, and people are wondering if she’s ever going to make her return. and honesty, if she never did come back, nobody would blame her.

so yeah. i know she’s prioritizing her health right now, but i’m honestly not above hoping for music. on my hands and knees. please give us something in the future.

i hope she’s doing well though. and that the terrible three are rotting in jail.

Han was tired. It had been a long week, from promoting the new album, to training for their comeback, it’s safe to say he was exhausted. The only thing in the world he wanted to do was take a nap.

“Sleep. SLEEP!” His brain seemed to be screaming at him. He wandered from room to room, trying to find a good napping place, until he chose the couch. He would have gotten a pillow and a blanket to help him fall asleep, but the second his head touched the fabric his eyes started getting heavy and soon after, he fell asleep.

In another room, the other 7 members were chatting.

“No that’s what I’m saying, Oddinary is better than 5 Star”

“Wtf?!? No 5 star’s way better”

They slowly walked out of the room and coincidentally walked into the same room Han was in.

“Aww, Han’s sleeping.”, Chan said, smiling at how cute his bandmate was.

“He’s sleeping like a baby!” Hyunjin chuckled, while snapping a picture.

“He’s probably cold. Maybe we should get him some blankets and a pillow for his head?” Felix questioned

“Or we could cuddle him? He’s too cute to just leave here” Minho suggested

At first, the bunny’s idea seemed to be working. But, someone’s finger slipped and accidentally poked Han’s side. He moved abruptly, surprised by the sudden sensation.

“What was that? Maybe he’s having a bad dream?”

Chan, knowing how ticklish he was, smirked, understanding what was going on. Chris took advantage of the fact that his shirt was slightly pulled up, exposing his belly button. He slowly circled his pointer finger around Han’s belly button. Not wasting any time, he quickly sped up the circling, going closer to the younger’s belly button each time. Chan smiled even wider, as his finger was now inside the younger’s tickle button.

Han being very ticklish, giggled once he felt the older’s finger.

“Aw, is someone a bit ticklish?” Changbin questioned, finally understanding what was going on.

“Gahahahahaha stohop”

“Why would we stop? We just started”, Seungmin asked in a teasing way

“Pleahease don’t pin meee. And pleahease dohon’t tickle my hips, they’re too sensitive. Please don’t give mehe raspberries” Han asked in a begging manner

“I’m starting to think you want us to do all those things”

“Aww hyungie, do you actually want this?” Jeongin asked, whilst poking his side

“Noyesmaybe, hah no, of course not”

“Hmm that sounded too indecisive, I think you deserve a punishment”, Lee Know stated, while heavily smirking

“I think you’re right, hyung. Maybe a wrecking session?” Hyunjin added

“Great idea, what do you think, Han?”

At this point, Han was so flustered, he couldn’t speak coherent sentences.

“I ah I think umm”

“Aw he’s blushing already” Felix stated, making the ace blush harder

“I say we just go for it” Hyunjin stated matter of factly

“I agree!”

Before Han could reply, his arms were already pinned over his head and fingers were fluttering and scribbling all over his sensitive body.

“HAHAHA ITS TOHO MUCH HAHAHA”

“I thought you wanted this?” Lee Know teased

The teasing only made the younger even more sensitive.

“Hahahahha it tickles soho bad HAHAHAHAHAHA”

Han was reaching his breaking point, which the members could see.

“So Hannie, I think we’ve completed all your requests, except one.” Chan said

“Huh?” The rapper asked while still giggling off the ghost tickles

“You’re right, we haven’t given him raspberries yet”

“Oh nohoho I think that’s okay I don’t need that I’m fi- AHAHAHAHA” Han interrupted his rambling with his own laughter.

All the members were blowing and ticklishly kissing him in different places of his body. Although it was intense, he actually… liked it?

“HAHAHAHHAHAA I THINK I'M GONNA DIE IF YOUHOU GUYHYUS KEEHEEP GOIHING”

Han was right, his face was completely red and he was breathing very hard.

They all stopped and looked down at the younger, seeing what a cute friend they had. One that liked being tickled, even though he wouldn’t admit it.

Shortly after, they got off of him, deciding they had exhausted Jisung enough. He’d probably need another nap.

and would you believe it or not, she went back to black.

somewhat healthy? certainly a little fried from the blonde but it was not falling out so that was a win.

she actually went back to black immediately before they went on kingdom, which is when she found out that most people agreed she had a whole different vibe with black hair.

after years of stay begging for short hair juyeon, not only did she deliver but she served.

lots of buns off-stage in this era. something about short hair made her wanna put it up more.

it was black for 90% of this era and then one day it was brown?? cute either way!

her comment sections in this era was actually ridiculous and honestly a little cringe but stay were serious about showing their love for the bob

5 star & rock star

during 5 star her hair was a more chocolate-y color from the tail end of maxident era before she went back to black again for rock star (are we seeing the pattern here?)

while juyeon did like the short hair it was certainly just a comeback style for her and she secretly decided to start growing her hair back out the day after she cut it

during the gap between maxident and 5 star (october 2022 - june 2023) she let the bob do its thing until it hit her shoulders and then she started wearing extensions

juyeon’s hair also grows like a weed so the divide between the extensions and her natural long hair is hard to find

now in rock star era it seems that her hair is completely grown out to her usual natural color and length

I, personally, only became a Stay in April 2021. My friends peer-pressured me into changing my pfp on Discord to Felix and I was like "He's actually p cute.. what group is he from?" and the rest is history. Now I'm the #1 Yeni Lover and Awkward Silence Enthusiast.

welcome to my music taste! 🤲 very much more of a melody-type girlie, so i tend to put melody-focused songs up higher on the list! but there is literally not a single stray kids track i dislike, so being 'last' only really means in comparison to the rest 🤲 this album was composed so beautifully, i'm pleasantly surprised with every comeback bc they manage to one-up themselves all the time 😭 i dunno how they do it 😭

they went from "3racha" by 3racha to "stray kids" by stray kids :( this song makes me so happy i love the lil references to their other songs and the melody line is so beautiful :((( the "know that this is who we are" line... the falsetto is so prettyyyyy

3; i like it

the song starts with this. THIS. and seungmin's voice? is the PERFECT lead in? the way he sings this part really brings off the "push and pull" vibes this song conveys in its lyrics!!!! and i was just so?? hooked??? Immediately?!!

4; mountains

again, this is literally how the song STARTS. felix's lead-in is so strong and impactful that i fell head over heels for the song with the snap of a finger????? it's such a hype song i love this one 😭

5; runners / chk chk boom (tied!)

this song is sosoososo pretty and like, very encouragement-based? reminds me of haven :( and thislil melody line that serves as a prechorus is like,, the softer part of the song? but it works as such a good lead into the chorus? i always find it impressive how skz does this 😭 moreover, their vocals here... it's so prettyyyy :((

title track!!!! absolutely a vibe, and jeongin's vocals here (followed immediately by seungmin's prechorus?!) had me legitimately gasping <3 definitely something i can play for the entire day just to dance to, this is so fun !!!

jjam is only ranked lower on this list because most of the song is pretty intense with its raps and, again, i'm a more melody-based girlie? but i love it regardless, and like, holly hell bc this is the song that has the most striking melody lines in this album imo. like. this? this is heaven to the ears !!

Music May 2023 #2: Stray Kids - Maniac release: March 2022 genre: Kpop

In further proof of just how far behind I am, three of my top four candidates for today's track have already had another comeback. And in fact, I am so far behind on Stray Kids, that they've had multiple comebacks since this AND I'm skipping releases they put out between NOEASY and ODDINARY, so expect me to hit them again a couple times between now and the end of the month, probably, so I'm at least hitting their other two recent full albums, MAXIDENT and THE SOUND.

So despite being Stay, I'm skipping over ... several MVs that came out between Thunderous and Maniac, even though I love most of them, because ... well, because I'll never get caught up if I don't, for one thing. Three of them are also seasonal (Christmas songs), so I'd feel weird writing about them right now. I may or may not come back to some of those further down the line, but no promises. One thing about Stray Kids is you can count on them to do things their own way, thanks to being a self-producing group - 3RACHA writes and produces the vast majority of what Stray Kids releases, albeit in conjunction with a rotating array of outside producers. Maniac has a sound that is unlike anything else that was playing at the time while at the same time being perfectly and immediately recognizable as Stray Kids. Which is an accomplishment given that I could not possibly put into words what exactly that sound is, you just recognize it when you hear it.

As for the video, well, I don't quite know where to start. There's threads of narrative flowing through it, but several viewings on, it's clearly more about vibes and performance beats than storytelling. And if you weren't already familiar with what passes for lore with this group, you might not know there's a running story here anyway. It works perfectly fine as a stand-alone about how trying to hide who you are, playing out a role that society expects, is only going to end up backfiring when the real you comes out. On the other hand, there are a few scattered visual cues that could be read as implying that the dokkaebi from Thunderous have come forward into the modern era. What that means for the world at large ... remains to be seen.

ODDINARY is available for purchase, both digital and physical, wherever you like to do your music buying, and streaming more or less everywhere. If I remember right they have actually, finally, wrapped up their MANIAC touring, so they might actually take a nap before doing anything else. But probably not.
