LUKE/ACTS S.O.A.P. ~ LUKE 22
Monday, 10/21/24
SCRIPTURE:
He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed. ~ Luke 22:41
OBSERVATION:
He withdrew from them...
"...a stone's throw..."
...short distance...
Compare the size of this stone to the one used to seal the tomb...
He didn't halt everything for a prayer retreat...
He paused in -withdrew from - the moment...
...stepped aside from the mayhem of the moment...
...and prayed...
APPLICATION:
Withdraw...
Kneel...
Pray...
PRAYER:
Awesomely gracious Father God - Please forgive my failure to seize whatever opportunity You present to step back from the distractions and temptations of the moment and come before You seeking Your will instead of my wants... In Jesus's Name, in His example, for Your praise and glory - always...
For Him... for you... for yours;

Dear Gus,
We have no television, so when your mom wants to get out of the house and it just so happens to be during a time that the Saints will be playing on TV, we find a bar that’s showing the game. Here you are at Stone’s Throw Brewing, looking like a precious little wide-eyed baby marsupial.
Dad
North Little Rock, Arkansas. 9.24.2017 - 12.39pm.

just finished Stone’s Throw from your latest. MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS. While I obviously adore it, I must first praise myself because the second I read the sequence of Jenny walking through the door, "They simply knew they had done it when they arrived back to a state of waking in the morning." I immediately thought LOOP THIS IS SOME SORT OF TIME LOOP I KNOW OLIVIE. anyways - love Jenny and love a world where it’s the woman who is not blinded my sentiment, who sees through manufactured reality, and just does the damn thing. you know, much like real life, minus the fae.
p.s. i’m on "pelvic rest" right now AKA doctor sanctioned no sex OR MASTURBATION (the cruelty) so your smut is killing me
woof pelvic rest certainly sounds cruel and unusual, I hope this is not an indefinite state of things. hoW will you be able to resist sam???? (actually unknown who is the most sexually enticing lead male in the collection, depends what you like—I would say the male archetypes arguably include a draco, a theo, a harry, and a percy. pls keep me informed)
I do become more readily predictable after a time although for the sake of being a spoiler free zone I shall say simply time loop what time loop?

Family Resemblance
Fortress Rock, New Hampshire, 1886
The encounter was going as about as smoothly as Theresa expected (which was not at all). “I’m sorry about everything. This must be as much of a surprise to you as it is to me,” Theresa continued.. “Thank you,” Olivia responded insincerely, before continuing to stare into the fire, imagining her entire house within it.
Theresa saw a note sitting on Olivia’s vanity. The ink appeared to bleed through the paper from tears. Claire nudged Theresa to go retrieve it. Before she could, Theresa felt Olivia’s tight grasp on her wrist, surprisingly quick and powerful for a walking vegetable. The look on Olivia’s face terrified her, “That is not yours!”
Claire, appeared uneasy. “Olivia, what does that note say?”
“N-nothing! It says nothing! It’s not for you anyway!”
Theresa finally pieced everything together. She intuited that this was a suicide note. “We are here if you need somebody to talk to, Olivia,” Theresa responded with more self-importance than she intended.
“I don’t even know you! You come into my house, invade my privacy, and try to manipulate me with your honeyed words just like your demonic jackass of a brother, Daniel! You are all the same! Get out!”
Claire was hesitant, but finally put her hand on Theresa’s shoulder, “I think it is time for you to go.” Claire was relieved that this one was more compliant and did not violently threaten her.
She brought Theresa back downstairs to the front entrance. “I am sorry that you had to witness all of that. I’ve personally never seen her like this.” “How is she normally?” Claire paused, “I’d kill myself for her."

RADAR: The National Parks
Brady Parks, Sydney Macfarlane and Bae Sorensen -- The National Parks -- released their debut album Young in the fall of 2013, a project propelled by touring, critical acclaim, word of mouth and online buzz. Now the Provo, Utah-based folk/pop and Americana trio is prepping their second album Until I Live for a June release and frontman/songsmith Parks is talking "progression and evolution" in describing the upcoming project: "I think it still stays true to the core of our sound from the first album, but most of the tracks are bigger, more nuanced, and maybe less folky than Young."
The band recently got around to releasing a remarkable video for the song "Helsinki" on NPR, the opening track to Young, with the help from a Finnish film crew and actor Antti Luusuaniemi. They also just released an acoustic version of "Stone's Throw," a new song that will appear on the upcoming sophomore album. Check 'em both out below along with a "tour shot" video of another song from their debut: "As We Ran." Stream the debut album in full at Bandcamp.

Petrified
Vienna, Austria, 1865
Being that her father was not going to leave his chair any time soon, Theresa needed to take the initiative and make the cure. Her father kept some reagents in the pantry. If he still had the necessary ingredients, knowing how he stored things, they were likely expired. Regardless, the options here were to do nothing and let her sister die, or do something. Little did she expect this particular concoction to produce such intense fumes that her eyebrows almost burned off. Theresa soon realized that she inhaled too much. Her muscles grew stiff and she fell backwards, unable to breathe, or even shift her eyes away from the ceiling.
She had awakened in darkness, feeling completely enclosed, soon realizing that she was in a coffin. Theresa screamed and pounded her fists against the wooden cover. Unfortunately, screams were muffled.
Days passed, but Theresa lost all concept of time. What were the chances that she would ever be buried alive? Why had she not suffocated? She had plenty of time to ponder these questions while she waited hopelessly.
The coffin started to rattle, as Theresa heard a series of loud thumping. As soon as she felt the outside air, she was blinded by a lantern. She saw a boy, about six years older than her. “Thank goodness, you’re alive!” He reached down to help her out of the ditch. “By the way, my name is Gregor! Gregor Goth!”
He was the doctor from her father’s book. He seemed rather cheerful, especially considering how he had just found a dour little girl in a coffin. “Thank you,” she rasped. “What day is today?” she asked meekly. “Today is March 26... Oh happy birthday, by the way! It says it on your headstone,” he reassured her.
Theresa sighed. This boy clearly did not understand what she had been through. “What year?” “Umm… it’s 1866. Just how long did you think that you were in there?” “Look at the headstone. Isn’t the date of death on there?” The boy looked back at the headstone and forced himself to grin, pretending that he did not just discover that this girl had spent an entire year in the dirt. “We better get you home. Your family will be ecstatic to see you.” Unfortunately, her family was probably dead. “What’s your name, by the way?” “Theresa... Theresa Keilhaus.”
