I don't know this guy from Adam, I don't think I ever heard his name until last week, so I really can't judge the guy to harshly on most stuff. But, his military record lies, I can speak to that shit directly. I was an E-7 in the Army, I did not retire as an E-7, I retired as an E-6. Two reasons for that, one, I was not in the pay grade of E-7 long enough to hold it for retirement reasons. Two, the Army and I did not see eye to eye on a certain subject and they thought I should be an E-6 again. (Field Grade) After I came back from Iraq in 2008 after an injury I suffered in Iraq in 2006 was exasperated I became part of the "Rear Detachment". At one point for 9 days I was the Read D acting 1SG. At no point was I ever an E-8, at no point was I ever a First Sergeant, I just had a series of letters that gave me certain abilities to accomplish the job of the Rear D 1SG. To claim that I was an E-8 or 1SG because I was the "Top Shirt" for 9 days not only diminishes my service but it pisses on every person who earned those ranks or positions throughout time. This fucking guy.

Maybe not quite solen valor but embellishing your career for personal gain is not really any different. Side note: I dropped my retirement packet when we got orders for Afghanistan. The difference between Tim and I is I was deployed in Iraq when we got our WARNO for Afghanistan, I was on my 7th deployment, 3rd to Iraq and I was done jumping around the world. I wasn't running from the fight, I was headed home after years of fighting.

I’m shocked (though I know I shouldn’t be) that this isn’t a bigger story…..

I thought vets (and the families that suffered through their deployments), felt that stolen valor was the type of thing a person can’t come back from; it’s up there next to….maybe stealing from the disabled, or harming children.

But maybe I’m wrong and nobody cares about much of anything anymore (unless of course, a REPUBLICAN does it).
