Michaela: You know, if I was married to Francesca, I’d be more supportive.
John: …You know you said that out loud, right?
Michaela: I’m not ashamed of who I am!

I’ve just realised that John and Francesca were standing directly across the room from Kate and Anthony during Colin’s speech and that’s just such perfect comedy to me.
Because, imagine you are John Stirling and you meet your betrothed’s big brother, who’s an important Viscount, the Lord Bridgerton and he intimidates the living shit out of you. In fact, you find him so scary that you mess up your words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then cut to exactly one scene later, and you’re standing across the room from that very same man, and this is your view the entire time: the scary, intimidating Viscount, wrapped around his wife, smiling like a goof and acting like a lovesick pile of mush
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine the whiplash, the shock, the surprise. I just know poor John was flabbergasted.

hello have not been on here in literal years and reactivated simply to post my modern bridgerton hcs that came to me as i was falling asleep would not let me go until i wrote them down! enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~
the entire family is still very much british upper class - they regularly interact with the royals and attend all the family event like wimbledon and ascot. they are regularly featured in the pages of the tabloids much to their annoyance. they also went to either oxford, cambridge, or st. andrew’s (franny)
- anthony - still who he is, took over edmund’s position in the family business. huge company either a law firm, business like real estate or holdings. he’s ceo and damn good at his job. still viscount but it is really in name only.
- kate - still very much who she is, i can see her either going very much a lawyer or the artist route but i like to think of her as leaving her art as a hobby that she does simply for the pleasure of it.
- benedict - artist can do either painting or photography but has become very famous for it, initially it was because of the family name but then people started seeing his talent for what it is. his photos have been featured a bunch of times in british vogue and he is one of their go to photographers.
- sophie - very much a primary school teacher because of her experience with araminta as a child she was determined to not let that happen for other children so she makes damn sure that while they are at school in her class they know some one is looking out for them.
- colin - travel writer. he works for some magazine and has his own column. the magazine is owned by like some big media company that has their own building.
- penelope - pen works for a different magazine that is owned by the same parent company as colin’s so they work in the same building when colin is not on assignment. she secretly still runs lady whistledown that is like deux moi and once she gets outed she starts her own mini media empire. still besties with eloise.
- daphne - she is very much the perfect socialite philanthropist that is so perfect she seems like she would be a bitch but truly is that nice. is still married to simon after they fake dated due to some media scandal. lives her absolute best WAG life and has the season down to a science.
- simon - is a huge sports star, think david beckham. technically was still the duke but officially gave up the title to piss off his father. this man was born to be girl dad.
- eloise - once she realized just how much privilege she has, she put her money where her mouth is and is constantly going to protests much to anthony’s annoyance (not because he doesn’t agree with the cause just because she is giving the family a bad name in the press, he actually super proud of her.) el went to school for a degree in women and gender studies and is super involved in academia when not getting arrested.
- phillip/a - a botany professor at the university where el is based out of. still has the kids from their previous relationship with marina but they were able to get a divorce because it is the 21st century and co parent the twins quite well. their gender honestly doesn’t matter for this, they love plants and eloise - the order of that is not important.
- francesca - autistic, it is important to me that you know that. she is a film composer, she loves getting to create the score for movies and that it doesn’t require that much human interaction.
- john - still unfortunately passes away, but prior to that was some kind of finance guy. was generally the nicest guy and loved fran with his entire heart.
- michael/michaela - hot. like the most beautiful human being you have ever laid eyes on. they work as an actor because it’s fun but secretly are insanely smart and like build computers for fun.
- gregory - anthony’s mini me and he wouldn’t have it any other way. he works for the family company and loves it. generally small bean like but is insanely tall, like taller than benedict much to everyone’s annoyance but no one more than hyacinth. he worships the ground lucy walks on but they only have three or four kids because they have access to birth control.
- lucy - a mini kate. also a lawyer who’s family firm got bought by kate’s and then started working under her where she eventually met greg when he was visiting his favorite sister kate for their monthly lunch date. has ocd.
- hyacinth - a child prodigy, started university at like 15 (which she never lets greg forget) works as a ta (or whatever the uk equivalent is) for agatha who is an old family friend through whom she meets gareth. her field is like archeology or some other super niche thing. (agatha does not have to teach, she does it because if she doesn’t how else will the new generation ever be taught the right way to do things)
- gareth - is so fucking chill but absolutely matches hyacinths freak. no one is quite sure what he does, he has explained it many times but no one truly knows even hyacinth.
- violet - was besties with princess diana (old money england) she unfortunately passes around the same time as edmund and she just loses it. luckily it is the modern days was able to get help but it took a little while. though once she is back on her feet she is a force to be reckoned with. she runs the family foundation which focuses on mental health and allergy awareness.
thank you for reading this! i will take no criticism at this time but welcome any addition thoughts!
OK, bridgerton people, I finished up the last season, and I have a LOT to say
First off, I think it's COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC that Daphne and Simon, along with their beautiful children, are not with the other Bridgertons soaking up all this drama and scandals that's been going on in ther family. SERIOUSLY WHAT HAPPENED?! was there a problem with the actors? Or something? Like what happened that made the actors and the children NOT MAKE AN APPEARANCE IN THE SEASON OF BRIDGERTON?!
Secondly, I also find it unrealistic that Anthony and Kate literally missed out ON PENELOPE'S LADY WHISTLEDOWN REVEAL?! LIKE, SERIOUSLY?! I get that Anthony wants to be with Kate and get to know her culture, but Anthony and his amazing Goddess wife Kate have missed out on the biggest reveal and scandal to hit their family! I so badly wanted to know what their reaction was going to be and their thoughts that Anthony's little brother is F*cking married to a gossip writer. Including Benedict.
I need to know! I can literally already imagine both Kate and Anthony reading the letter that Penelope is Whistedown and their reactions (to me) are hilarious 😂
Thirdly, I kind of wanted the secret identity of Lady Whistledown to be a secret a little while longer. Like maybe after Benedicts season. That's just my personal opinion. But I did want the queen to still find out and have Penelope and Charlotte have a private alliance. Penelope still gets to write under the approval of the queen as long as the queen looks at it first and maybe becomes the queens eyes and ears.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the haters here who don't like the change of gender of Michael Stirling, aka Michaela Stirling, and are fearing for their lives that Sophie Beckett will become Stephen Beckett.
Firstly, we are not the creators of this fantastic world. OK? The author is, Netflix is making this show into a reality, and those of us that actually like the show are actually OK and loving with how things are going especially the reveal that not just one but THREE bridgerton siblings ARE a part of LGBTQ+ community. Can we all just take a moment and not go backward to the "Annabeth shouldn't be black" incident. I know these two incidents don't relate because one has to do with race and the other has to do with gender but can the haters just stop. I believe the authors and creators of this AMAZING show know what they are doing, and the bridgertons along with Queen Charlotte are one of the few shows I like that haven't been canceled yet. So consider this a freaking win people.
If the creators want to change a few things, then let them change a few things, we are fans, and we have something called fanfics to which we read and write if there's something we don't like or can't live with when it comes to a fandom series. As long as the creators of the show keep giving us our daily dose of drama and do the bridgerton books justice than I for one am going to keep on watching and being invested in this fandom.
And haters one final message to you, if you don't like the shows, THEN STOP WATCHING THE SHOWS!!!!!!!
I have said my peace. And there is plenty more to come
I just finished Francesca's book (spoiles abound)
and I love that it's Colin who sees through Michael immediately. And it's Colin who tells Michael to marry her. And what makes it better is that Francesca and Michael's story is happening concurrently to Colin and Penelope's. He's seeing a man who is enduring similar feelings and he's all, "oh I know exactly what you're going through, my dude." Colin loves Penelope so there's no doubt in his mind that he'll marry her. So why wouldn't he see a man in love and be all like, "you have feelings for her? It's really simple then. Just marry her!" because that's what he is doing. I just love that connection so much.
I know it's very unlikely we'll see much (if at all) of Colin in Frannie's season (figuring it'll be several seasons down the road) but I would love for book!Colin to carry over into the show. Recognizing there's something there with Michaela and Francesca. Gently letting Michaela know it's okay and that the family will support the relationship. Obviously Francesca's season will be very different than the book (we love wlw!) but I think the feelings of unworthiness and inappropriateness that Michael feels would absolutely carry over into the show. And having Colin see it, acknowledge it, and respect it would be huge.
(also, I liked Michael as a character but I'm glad they're changing things up in the show. I feel like the whole bad boy rake thing is being done to death with Simon, Anthony, and soon Benedict. There are still a lot of aspects and personality of Michael they can give to Michaela. Obviously she won't be come Earl but I think the feelings Michael feels in regards to betraying John would absolutely carry through. And while yes, infertility is a big part of Fran's story, there are still ways to do it with a wlw story. Either she is pregnant when John dies or they decide to take in orphaned kids. I'm excited to see where they go with it!)
Me: I know Benedict is, at the minimum, bisexual, but this is a Netflix show full of heterosexual relationships based on a book series full of heterosexual relationships and there’s unfortunately no way that they’re gonna go there and it’s actually so sad and misogynistic that in today’s day and age this kind of stuff still matte-
Please! ✋😫
Francesca and John being two introverts who are fine with sitting next to the other and not speaking, is the cutest thing I have ever seen in the series.
John: What’s it like living with your siblings?
Francesca: Imagine living with completely civilized, responsible, and mature people.
John: Alright.
Francesca: Now throw that idea completely out the window.
DEAREST GENTLE READERS
First off to the haters of the fandom and Micaela
WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?! HAVE WE AS A FANDOM SERIOUSLY TAKEN TWO STEPS BACKWARDS HERE?!
I HAVE SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE HATE ON MICAELA SO BADLY BECAUSE OF THE CREATORS OF THIS BEAUTIFUL SHOW DECIDED TO CHANGE THE GENDER OF MICHAEL STIRLING!!!!
I just-I can't. LIKE WTF?!?!?!
WE GET ONE SCENE! ONE SCENE! WITH MICAELA AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MOST PEOPLE HATE HER!!
I get that a lot of people aren't fans of change, especially when it comes to books, our favorite fandoms, and stuff, but this is getting ridiculous. I've seen literal TikToks of people fancast Micaela to Michael with male actors saying, "It's not too late."
CAN WE NOT AS A FANDOM FOR A SOLID SECOND, NOT BE TOXIC SEXIST TRADITIONALISTS HERE?! AND ACCEPT THE CHANGE GIVEN?!
The new season bridgerton is not even OUT YET, and people are already believing the worst. I get the last season had a poor ending, and we're hoping this new season is redemption, but this DOES NOT EXCUSE FOR a LOT OF PEOPLE ACTING SEXIST TO FRANCESCA'S FUTURE WIFEY!!!!
ACCEPT IT AND MOVE ON! CAN WE JUST WATCH THE NEW SEASON AND THEN CAST OUR JUDGMENT LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE???!!!!
THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!
Can we also stop putting hate Michaela and see where it goes from here. BECAUSE LIKE FRANCESCA, EVEN I LOST MY VOICE SEEING HER FOR THE FIRST TIME!
Francesca&Violet Fic - All lights turned off can be turned on
Written for @fandom-free-bingo Pride Edition prompts “Secret Smiles” and “You’re my everything”.
July Break 2024 Bingo prompt: “You deserve someone that makes you happy”.
Fandom: Bridgerton (TV).
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences.
Summary: Violet has an important conversation with Francesca about what Michaela means to her daughter.
“Do you not think it wicked?” Francesca asked, both fearful and hopeful as she awaited her mother’s answer.
“Do you?”
“No, Mama. It is… It is every bit what you told me love should be like, and somehow more.”
Read on AO3.
“And just when I thought Colin couldn’t possibly be any more of a moron, he fell off the horse and plummeted into the dirt!” Benedict exclaimed, gesticulating broadly with his hands.
Michaela threw her head back as her laugh roared. It was the most beautiful of sounds, as Francesca had long ago decided.
“I thought Anthony’s eyes would fall off his face from how wide they had become. He lectured us all the way home about how stupid we were to go out riding on our own,” her brother lamented, shaking his head in feigned disappointment.
“You are lucky I have learned to pick my battles, Benedict. Just hearing this sent my mind spinning, even if years too late,” her mother commented, sipping her tea.
Benedict shrugged. “Colin was in one piece, Mama.”
Then he smiled a mischievous grin and muttered to Michaela, “Mostly.”
Michaela laughed again, slapping his wrist. She turned her head to Francesca and threw her a softer version of her grin.
Having Michaela’s undivided attention never failed to render Francesca speechless. To be the one she sought in all rooms still felt like a distant dream.
She smiled back at her, a slight upturn of her lips that Michaela had learned to read over the years.
They could have stayed like that for the remainder of the afternoon if Benedict hadn’t stood up in a blur of color and motion.
“Oh, I must show Michaela the horse that nearly split Colin in half.” He exclaimed excitedly, “He is still in our stables.”
“It would be my pleasure,” she said, taking the arm Benedict offered her.
It warmed her heart to watch Michaela and Benedict’s vibrant personalities clash. Francesca had once worried they would be too similar to form a bond, but she was quickly proved wrong from the moment they met.
Benedict was also the only person in her family who knew the true nature of their relationship, and his unwavering support had given them much-needed strength.
She also knew her brother appreciated the camaraderie Michaela offered him. It was far easier to be at peace with oneself when surrounded by those with similar passions.
When they disappeared down the hall and their equally loud voices diminished, her mother set down her teacup and gestured for Francesca to scoot closer to her.
Now all alone, without Benedict and Michaela around, her mother seemed to wish to discuss something privately.
Violet smiled kindly at her and said, “It has been wonderful to have you back home these last few weeks, dear.”
Francesca returned the smile. “It has been good to be back as well.”
Her mother hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “I am glad you brought Michaela with you. I know how much she has supported you these last few years.”
The topic of John’s death was still one that haunted both Francesca and Michaela, and her mother was kind enough to dance around the subject, but Francesca understood the meaning of her words all the same.
“That much is true. I am incredibly lucky to have her in my life,” Francesca agreed in what she hoped was an amicable enough tone—one that didn’t betray all Michaela meant to her.
Francesca had never been very good at expressing her emotions, but her love for Michaela was so all-encompassing that she sometimes struggled with keeping it at bay.
“That I am sure of.”
Francesca drank some more tea just to find something to do with her hands.
“You have been happier lately,” her mom said, breaking the tense silence.
“Have I?” Francesca asked in return, noncommittally.
Her mother nodded. “And I believe Michaela is responsible for that, is she not?”
Francesca finished her cup in silence, the green tea becoming bitter as she forced it down her throat.
“I am not certain I understand, Mama,” she finally replied.
“I believe you do,” Violet retorted in the same tone she used with her children when they were young and foolishly trying to lie their way out of their lessons.
Eloise had always been better at wringing arguments together than her. Her sister might have been able to evade their mother’s questions and turn the conversation back around.
Back when Francesca and her siblings were younger, she had always been the first one to break when they were caught in a lie. A single disapproving look from her mother was more than enough to send her scurrying for forgiveness.
She felt awfully like that scared little child, desperate to be granted absolution.
“Mama.” Her voice wobbled, incapable of finishing her sentence.
Her mom shook her head, reaching for her hand and taking it to her lap.
Her voice was gentle when she said, “I know you love Michaela.”
Francesca chocked on a sob, her heart beating wildly as she tried not to allow panic to take over her whole being.
“I can also assure you that there is no rumor spreading. I have not heard this from anyone else,” her mom added. “But I am your mother, Francesca, and I have watched the two of you exchange secret smiles across countless rooms for weeks now.”
Her stomach dropped as shame overtook Francesca’s whole being. They had been so careful. Or at least she had thought so.
She couldn’t bring herself to stare into her mother’s eyes, terrified of what she would find in them.
Disgust? Pain? Disappointment?
“Mama, I do not know what to say. Forgive me for-”
“For what, my dear?” Violet interrupted her. “For love? Was I not the one who asked you to be open to it, shall it come your way? I could not possibly chastise you now for following my own counsel.”
Her mother reached out carefully to lift her chin. Finally, they locked eyes.
Francesca found none of the hate she had expected to see. Instead, her mother looked at her like she was still a precious gift Violet was grateful for having.
“I know you loved John dearly, as did I, as I am sure Michaela did too. Yet, throughout your courtship, I could tell you were content but not at complete peace with yourself. You told me Scotland and its quietness would help you find that peace. And I see it in you now, especially when you’re around Michaela. I cannot help but wonder if it was not the Scottish fields, but her, who helped you find it.”
Unbidden relief coursed through her veins now. She had been so desperate to hide her happiness, fearing what her mother would think of her for it.
She had almost convinced herself that her love for Michaela belonged in dark rooms, locked behind closed doors, undeserving of daylight and celebration.
To have her own mother prove her wrong went beyond her wildest dreams.
“Do you not think it wicked?” Francesca asked, both fearful and hopeful as she awaited her mother’s answer.
“Do you?”
“No, Mama. It is… It is every bit what you told me love should be like, and somehow more.”
“Then I can only be grateful you found a love that fits you so well. You deserve someone that makes you happy. What else can a mother wish for?”
For so long, there had been a barrier between them—a wall Francesca had built to protect herself and to preserve the peace she and Michaela had fought so hard to achieve.
To have it taken down so abruptly—by her mother of all people—seemed to release all the tension Francesca had been carrying around all at once.
“I am so scared, Mama,” she found herself confessing. “I have been scared for so long, and Michaela has been so incredibly patient, but I feel guilty at times. For loving her after losing John, for being with her and keeping it from you, for needing her so desperately when grief is still hanging heavily over both of us.”
“My brave girl,” Violet murmured, wiping away her tears. “I wish the world was a kinder place. I wish I could protect you from all this pain. I would take it for myself if I could. Even though I am unable to grant you that, I will tell you one thing: anyone you love will be loved by me tenfold. There’s no need for apologies between us.”
“I once believed my happiness and yours could not exist at once. I felt as if the more there was of mine, the less there could be of yours,” she confessed.
Violet brought Francesca’s hand to her lips to press a kiss against it. “I wish for nothing more than your happiness, my child. That itself is the whole goal of my life.”
“I have longed to hear that from you for so long, Mama, but I did not dare hope for it. It seemed impossible.”
“Very few things are indeed impossible,” Violet mused. “And my love for you could never be one of them.”
She pulled her mom into a tight hug, hiding her face in the crook of her neck. Francesca felt like a little kid again, climbing into Violet’s lap after a bad dream—the safety of her mother’s presence washing away all her fear.
Her mom held her just like she used to when Francesca was that scared little child. She pressed kisses to her forehead, humming reassurances softly.
“Thank you,” Francesca repeated again and again. The whirlwind of relief and love inside Francesca was so strong that it threatened to crack her open.
Her mom whispered, “You’re my everything, Francesca. You and your siblings. Don’t you ever forget that.”
Francesca held her mom so tight that it must have been painful, but Violet did not pull away.
Francesca could finally breathe. Her truth was out in the open, and her world had forever shifted, but not a single strand of fear touched her, for Violet loved her just as much as she did before.
And wasn’t that a miracle all on its own?
