Activity: The World Made Closer

It was late August when it was announced that Ron Henley, a Filipino rapper, singer, and songwriter was coming to town. After hearing the news, my friends and I immediately availed tickets. On September 1, 2023, we arrive at La Havana beach grill bar early because we were excited. A little background about Ron; He was known for his tracks "Biglang Liko" and "Hagdan", which were all written and composed by Ron also. And ever since the concert, "Ubasan", a song written and composed by Stick Figgas, a duo consisting of rappers Loonie and Ron Henley himself. I also listen to "Iladnasanwakan", and "Venus", tracks written and composed by Ron. These songs are my top three these days and is on repeat on my Spotify. Whatever I do in my daily life like showering, cleaning my room, or doing a tasks, I'd open Spotify on my Apple iphone or ipad and listen to Ron Henley's tracks and other musics. My devices are made in Apple Inc. based in Cupertino, California.

If one thing that he knew about his brother was the fact that he can't be killed, especially with Mjolnir by his side, that's why he helped that monster to his chamber, just to piss his brother off. He didn't know you would be there and now he has lost you forever, the one person who has been there by his side all along, the only person who ever showed him kindness and accepted all of him is gone because of his recklessness.

Your voice rang in his head over and over again, he always would get you involved in one of his mischiefs and you'd always be there as his partner in crime, his confidante, his everything and now he's all alone. 

The moment, Fandral informed him of your demise he lost his mind, he screamed and wailed like a widower. His screams echoed, the god of mischief was brought down to his knees. He smashed everything around him, hurt himself, made himself bleed but he didn't care, the pain of losing you forever was insurmountable. He killed you. He'll never forgive himself. 

Wherever you go, there's war, ruin and death

Odin was right. Everyone was right about him. You trusted him, you believed in his truth when nobody else did, you accepted every part of him even when he himself didn't, you loved him and now you're dead.

"Lokii, for the love of the norns, get up" He felt someone shaking his shoulders, he heard your harmonious voice, was he too far gone now in his grief?

"Lokii we have to leave, come on now, give me your hand" He opened his eyes and looked at you, he could touch you, he could feel you. 

"You are here, you're Alive" his bloodied hands cupped your cheeks 

"And none of us would be, if you continue to be this way, we have to go Loki" you hugged him tightly and that's when he could finally believe that you were there.

After that everything felt like a blur to him, you asked him to teleport you two to a safe place, and he teleported right into his chamber at the palace.

"I asked for a safe place loki"

"This is safe, they won't look for me here, you're alive..how ? They said malekith ..he.." he pulled you into his arms and you wrapped your arms around him tightly

"I created an illusion, you taught me well I have been working on it, I had to save Jane but somehow I have the aether inside me now" His eyes widened at the information. He had to protect you now, from the cursed power as well the elves.

So you took Loki with you and met Thor, there you three devised the plan to go to Svartalfheim. 

"Stick to the plan brother" Thor warned Loki and you glared at him. Loki was in no shape or form to betray anyone, especially you. He'd never betray you, he clutched onto you tightly throughout the journey to Svartalfheim. He watched your chest heaving up and down, a sign that you were indeed alive and he wasn't hallucinating. Even if you'd move around or walk he'd hold the corner of your dress, or your hand, even just a lock of your hair if he had to. He didn't let go of you even for a second. He held your waist and placed his head down on your shoulder, he just wanted to feel you around him.

"Loki, I'm here, I'm not going anywhere or dying so soon, calm down for me please?"

"Shhhhhh just let me hold you, i almost got you killed" You hugged him tightly, you didn't want him to blame himself for this. They blame him for every wrong thing and you couldn't do the same with him. Sure he was being pitiful when he sent that monster to Thor's chamber, you won't excuse that.

"No my love, you'd never hurt me like that, none of this was your fault, I love you so much" you kissed him, much to Thor's dismay as he had to witness the romance. Once you all reached the Svartalfheim, Loki pretended to be on their side and Malekith extracted the Aether out of you. There Loki protected and saved your life so many times than you could count for, then he sacrificed himself for Thor. Now you understand how he must have felt when he heard of your demise.

"Lady y/n, we have to leave, I have found another Portal which lead straight to midgard" Thor tried to convince you to leave with him but you didn't budge from your place.

"Just leave, tell the world of his bravery, tell them that he gave up everything for you. Go" you held his lifeless body in your arms as you weeped, you wouldn't leave him alone here. Reluctantly Thor went inside the portal and he was gone. 

"I hate you so much, I hate you for making me believe that you were dead" A laughter erupted from his chest and he got up then he kissed you deeply and longingly. 

"Apologies my love, it's only fair isn't it?" You wrapped your arms around him and you two stayed like that in each other's arms while you tended to his injury. He'll heal soon and he'll be okay. 

"Where to now? for the world we are perished" His eyes no longer craved the throne or the validation of his father. He just wanted to be happy and accepted. He had it all with you.

"Be free loki, for we are free now. We can go anywhere, be anything, be truly happy" you cupped his cheeks and your eyes teared up.

"As long as I have you darling" You pulled him closer and your lips didn't leave him until he seemed swollen and breathless.

With a unknown title so far, I decided to make edits for the Frigga IIs we see in the TVA inspired series she stars in that’s set in the future of Marvel Descendants, when she’s arrested as a teen by the TVA due to a past incident that involved the goddess of death, and to avoid being pruned, she make a deal to help catch a variant of her that is causing chaos within the sacred timeline.

Frigga Thordottir (Faceclaim: Rowan Blanchard)- the middle child of Thor and Jane, she almost forgot the incident with Hela that happened when she was seven, but when the TFA finally catch up to her for it, she’s forced to make a deal with them to avoid being pruned- the deal? Oh just to catch a variant of hers that’s causing chaos in the sacred timeline- simple, right? Wrong, for nothing is simple for the Goddess of Mischief....

Fridden Thorason (Faceclaim: Milo Manheim)- the middle child of Thora and James, his life was going great until the moment the TFA arrested him for an incident from his childhood with the god, Hel. Not wanting to be pruned though, he is quick to escape and during his attempts to return home, he slowly causes chaos in the sacred timeline, chaos that he soon enjoys causing as he soon gets a new mission in mind: to take down the TFA once and for all. 

Frigga Thordottir (Faceclaim: Sofia Carson)- the adult variant of Frigga II, she mostly spent most of her teen years and even early adult years escaping the TFA, using magic taught to her by Loki, but the gig is soon up when she’s caught and pruned, but refusing to die fully, she soon finds other variants of her with the same goal as her: to return home. 

Frigga Thordottir (Faceclaim: Sofia Wylie)- one of the variants of Frigga II, it ironically wasn’t even her incident with the goddess Hela that led to her arrest. No, it was deciding to learn chaos magic and therefore, divert from her path as the goddess of mischief. But once pruned, she finds other variants of her with the same goal in mind: to return home. 

Frigga Thordottir (Faceclaim: Cailey Fleming)- one of the variants of Frigga II, she is the youngest of the variants but don’t let that fool you- she knows magic early on, and accordig to the TFA, she learnt magic too soon. But despite the pruning, she intends to return home somehow, and intends to bomb the TFA with glitter on the way home. 

Frigga Thordottir (Faceclaim: None, is a frog)- a rare variant of Frigga II, this Frigga comes from the universe of the heroes being animals and no one really knows why the TFA pruned her just yet, but she mostly sticks with Kid Frigga II and wants to return home somehow. 

Frigga Thordottir (Faceclaim: Rowan Blanchard)- one of Figga II’s variants, her universe is mostly a mirror off her main timeline and when successfully pruned, she finds herself soon forming alliances with the various variants pruned, becoming their leader eventually, but she’d soon find herself on the wrong end of the stick when it comes to her own variants.

Boo, it’s okay to admit that you need to take a step back to figga shit out, how to go into the future.

There are times I get down on myself because I’m like, dawg, you’re 30 how do you not do this stuff yet. On one hand, my Dad has been such an incredible influence on me, of masculinity and stick-to-itiveness and I have the perspective I do on my life due to his example. On the other hand, despite the fact that I’m the one living in New York City with a fancy title of “L3 Software Engineer”, I still feel my Dad is so much further than me in understanding and accepting, “this is life, and this is my place in it, and I’m okay with that”.

Anyway. I’m doing me. And as I step back for a week or two, I’m really trying to understand: “how do I go into this next step of my life now that I know what adulthood truly is, now that I realize that my ideas of where I should be and who I should be are remnants of adolescent idealizations”

Does that make sense? I kind of don’t care. It’s a feeling.

Anyway. I’m going to watch a buncha videos on piano playing and what to practice. I’m 90% sure I’m going to do the 12 week course in “The Artists Way” (https://www.amazon.com/Artists-Way-25th-Anniversary-ebook/dp/B006H19H3M/ref=sr_1_1). I’m going to write a detailed outline of my “deliverables” on my personal programming project (https://github.com/drivelous/docker-ubuntu18.04-django3.0.2). And I’m going to get my finances in order so that I can prepare to save for the future.

Pinapakita ng akdang ito ang realidad ng buhay. Kung saan ang pera ay ang bubuhay sayo. Kapag mahirap ka, hindi pwedeng mahirap ka lang. Dapat may kakaibang bagay sayo para maging katanggap-tanggap ka naman sa lipunan. Maaaring talentado ka, o ‘di kaya’y matalino. Hindi pwedeng normal ka lang. Ngunit itong mga karakter sa akda ni Sir Norman Wilwayco, mahirap lang sila ni Chris. Kapos lang, wala ng iba. Hindi espesyal, kawawa. Average student na tinatawag bilang “walang mukha”.

Pag mahirap ka, isasabuhay mo ang salitang mahirap at magtatrabaho para makaraos. Kayod kalabaw. Ayon nga sa kantang Mukha ng Pera by Stick Figgas, “sa jack en poy ng buhay laging papel ang panalo”.

Nagtrabaho ang dalawang karakter upang matustusan ang pag-aaral nila. Walang katakot-takot na binanggit ng may akda ang Jollibee. Kontraktuwalisasyon ang pinupunto sa parteng ito. Mas madali sana ang buhay ni Chris kung hindi siya palipat lipat ng trabaho kung wala ang sistemang ito. Kung wala nito, ilan kayang tao sa bansa ang makakaraos na walang iniisip na pagtatapos sa trabahong pinaghihirapan nila araw-araw?

Isang malaking plot twist ang biglang pagyaman ni Chris. Laking pasasalamat niya at may tiyahin siyang mayaman na may sakit. Pangit man pakinggan ngunit totoo eh. Kung hindi siya napamanahan ay wala ang lahat ng malaking pagbabago sa pamumuhay ni Chris at ng kaibigan dahil sa ambon ng grasya nito. Biglang yaman ang estudyante na walang mukha. Biglang sikat at biglang ibang Chris na siya. ‘Yun bang tinitingala.

Ka-ching! Iba talaga ang nagagawa ng pera sa tao.

Si Marissa, ang babaeng mahirap ngunit maganda at matalino. Pinaka-cliché na katangian ng bawat bidang babae sa mga kwento. Nabanggit na ang tatay niya ay isang kawani ng isang sangay sa pamahalaan na naghihintay mabigyan ng break para magkaroon ng juicy position. Dalawampung taon na itong nagtatrabaho roon ngunit hindi napopromote. Mahirap magkaroon ng mataas na posisyon kahit na gaano ka pa katagal sa isang institusyon.

Si Marissa ang babaeng niligawan ni Chris noon. Siya rin ang babaeng nais gaguhin ni Chris ngayon. Biro mo, handa ba namang maglabas ng limpak limpak na pera para lang matikman ang pinakamasarap na luto ng diyos? Iba rin. Pero siyempre, hindi nagpatinag si Marissa sa mga offer ni Chris. Tumaas ng tumaas ang nakapataw na salapi, nanatiling matigas ang kanyang desisyon. Ngunit noong ito’y umabot ng milyon, bumigay na ito. Kaabang abang ang eksenang ito para sa lahat ng nanonood, pati na rin sa akin na nagbabasa lang. Ngunit itong si Chris, sinong mag-aakalang bigla niya itong duduraan? Ngunit kung ilalagay ang karakter niya sa isang ina na bumubuhay sa walong anak ay magiging ayos lang ang desisyon niya. Marahil sa kahit anong parte ay imoral pa rin ang ipagbili ang sariling puri ngunit nang dahil sa sitwasyong kinalalagyan ay nababawasan ang paghusga. Parehong mali ngunit sa pagiging subhektibo ng pananaw ng tao ay mas natatanggap ang mas mabigat na dahilan. Lahat ng tao ay may kanya kanyang katotohanan kaya’t bawat paghusga rin ay nagiging iba dahil nakatira tayo sa isang lipunan.

Pagkatapos kong mabasa ang akda ay nagtaka ako. Bakit ganoon? Bakit sa dulo ay parang dehado pa si Chris na lagi siyang umiinom at binabanggit si Marissa? Napaisip ako, siguro nga’y gusto niya talaga si Marissa. Umabot lang sa hangganan ang pagpapansin niya at hindi ito nakakatuwa. Para sa akin, hindi lang si Marissa ang nawalan ng dangal sa kuwento. Sa pagtanggal ng puri ng isang tao ay awtomatiko ring natatanggal ang dangal mo.

Isa pang tanong, bakit babae lagi ang nawawalan ng puri sa mga kuwento?Parang dangal lang ng kababaihan ang madaling ipagsawalang bahala sa akda ng nakararami. Sa akda rin ni Eli Guieb na “Kasal” ay babae ang nagloko. Bakit laging masama ang babae? Bakit hindi ang mga lalaki?

Ang porma ng akda ay linear, inuna ang simula at hinuli ang wakas. Sa orihinalidad, may mga palabas na akong napanood na nagtatanggal ng puri ng kababaihan ngunit iba ang kuwento nito.

Sabi nila “love makes the world go round” ngunit sa totoo lang ay pera ang nagpapaikot rito. Sa realidad, hindi ka mabubuhay kung wala kang pera. Pinaghihirapan bago ito makuha kaya karamihan ay nasisilaw sa kadilimang dulot nito. Maraming marangal, marami ring kumakapit sa patalim. Malalang kagaguhan ang nagagawa ng pera sa tao, ‘yan ang totoo.

MALASIMBO FESTIVAL

Doesn’t it excite you when music festival takes place in some of the most beautiful locations in the country? Well guess what, fam! Music and Travel aficionados can enjoy this annual music festival in Puerto Galera – the Malasimbo Festival.

What differs Malasimbo from other festivals is that they celebrate music, arts, and nature. The festival is usually held at the grass-terraced amphitheater at the foot of Mount Malasimbo overlooking Puerto Galera Bay, while artists – local and international – play along in the open air.

Next year, Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival will be held on March 23-25, 2018. The first round of performers was announced on their Facebook page. Say hello next year to Hiatus Kaiyote, Laneous, Ruby Ibarra, Stick Figgas, Skarm, Crwn, and Yung Bawal.

WANDERLAND FESTIVAL

This annual music festival which started 2013 is the go-to place of indie music lovers during summer. Same with Malasimbo’s concept, Wanderland is also a music and arts festival based in the Philippines, with performance of great international indie bands and homegrown indie acts.

Some international acts who performed in this festival are The Temper Trap, The Ting Tings, LANY, Honne, and Bon Iver to name a few.

Also, Wanderland Festival is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2018 Filinvest City Event Grounds Alabang. First set of line-up include Ben&Ben, Quest, Kodaline, and LAUV.

PARADISE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Get ready for some multi-sensory live music experience at Paradise International Music Festival. Last 2016, the star-studded event was headlined by Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Afrojack, and our very own Up Dharma Down.

Although there are no further announcement on 2018 lineup, the IMF organizer promises a grander and bigger show next year. Make sure to save early as ticket prices could go as high as PHP 15,000.

ROAD TO ULTRA

Known to be one of the most famous EDM festival worldwide, bringing thousands of EDM listeners in one big venue.

Last 2017, Road To Ultra was held at the Mall of Asia Arena with international acts like Hardwell, Zedd, supported by fast-rising stars Getter, RESS, and Sam Feldt. Everyone loved the pyro, impressive pre-loaded clips and graphics at the DJ’s background, and more!

Some of the biggest electronic talents which perform in Ultra are Alessa, A-Trak, Skrillex, and Tiesto.

PLAYBACK MUSIC FESTIVAL

BAZOOKA ROCKS FESTIVAL

Fans of rock music unite at this annual rock festival organized by Pulp Live World. It is said to be the first indoor music festival in the Philippines featuring artist from different genre: from pop rock, punk rock, metalcore, alternative, and more.

Started in 2012, some of the international rock bands which have performed are Mayday Parade, The Used, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, You Me At Six, The Maine, Anberlin, Taking Back Sunday, and more.

Now here is an exciting music treat for millenials! Leading concert promoter in the Philippines, MMI LIVE started this music festival in 2016 with artists such as Third Eye Blind, The 1975, Elle King, Twin Pines, and Panic! At the Disco.

After the successful run in 2016, MMI LIVE decided to put up another amazing line-up just this year with amazing performances from Daya, Dua Lipa, Zara Larsson, DNCE, and Two Door Cinema Club.

FUSION MUSIC FESTIVAL

Lastly, let’s not forget the biggest OPM festival in the country – the Fusion Music Festival. The annual event takes pride on their purely local artist in the country. It is a gathering of the best artist in the country. They uphold their advocation of igniting all OPM artist in the country.

This became an annual festival after the successful run last 2015 which was headlined by Bamboo and Sarah Geronimo. Other performers include Kitchie Nadal, Gloc-9, Rico Blanco, Kamikazee, Ebe Dancel, and more talented OPM artists.
