big apple steve? i only know strawberry steven.
reply to be added to the tag list
NOTE: i've never watched Worth It so except for some random Feed videos, my first introduction to Steven was through Watcher. i find him absolutely hilarious in Too Many Spirits (he's the real star of that show frfr) and his cooking endeavours are so sweet! the Dish Granted episode with Keith is my favourite as of now considering how much work he put into it and how impressed Keith was at the end. i also really enjoyed watching the Steven Eats Through Korea for 24 Hours Straight video. he tends to invite a lot of people to feature in his videos which really enriches the watching experience for me. the different points of views and expertise add onto the narrative making it so the production always feels like a passion project, not just empty product.
@loveuniseposts 's Steven Lim Appreciation Week 2023 post gave me an excuse to finally draw Steven. i, of course, chose his strawberry hair look because it's absolutely adorable. if you want to also participate in this initiative, please check out the link in the replies for more info!

Steven Lim Appreciation Week is upon us! (with many many thanks to @loveuniseposts)
Day 1: Steven's Looks!
I absolutely adore this man's beautiful smile. It is too gorgeous for words and I especially love the tiny bit of awkwardness that often accompanies it.
Steven's smile just brightens my day! :D

youtube randomly recommended the Worth It Curry episode to me, and I said "yes please" because it's one of my top comfort shows and I'll rewatch them all a hundred times idc
but this time I noticed in this episode Steven makes more comments about his Chinese-Malaysian heritage than he does in most episodes
in particular he tells Andrew about this durian fruit, that many people make fun of (something Steven had also mentioned on his parent's episode of Dish Granted, bringing foods for lunch that were different to the American kid's packed lunch) and you can tell he's sharing something so personal in this clip (that's also not a restaurant stop and was something they filmed just for this btw)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it means so much to him to share this with Andrew and the viewers
bonus you get this little Steven smile when Andrew enjoys the fruit
Tumblr media
I just think this is a good episode to rewatch if you love Steven, or hearing more about what his favorite foods were growing up, or if you're celebrating him all week and trying to enjoy as much Steven content as possible 😉

Steven Week 2023: Steven Looks
Steven Week 2023 It’s Monday July 17th so today’s prompt is...
Tumblr media
Steven Looks! Let’s explore Steven’s style over the years.
One of Steven’s most iconic looks has been whenever he’s dyed his hair blue; it’s the color I see show up most in various fan art. A truly Limtastic Look for sure.
Tumblr media
Although Steven’s most iconic shade of blue hair dye is featured below, this was the OG of Steven’s blue hair at Watcher. Note the darker navy color, adding an elegance for everything from filming an unscripted talk show to meetings with investors as the lead of Watcher’s business side. Blueberry indeed.
Tumblr media
THIS is the true blue of Steven’s hair, more of an electric, neon shade, illustrating Steven’s constant determination to go the extra mile. If Watcher had a makeup palette, this eyeshadow would be referred to as “Elimtric Blue.”
Tumblr media
Here we have a look that was peak Early Watcher Steven, a dusty rose sweatshirt whose fit offers the sophistication for a work meeting but also the comfort of a cozy night in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally, another amazing look from Steven here during a season of TMS whose theme was “1920s Speakeasy,” we see him donning a white shirt with pinstripes and a subtly plaid patterned button-up vest, combined with black slacks. The picture of professional, Steven demonstrates why the term “pattern mixing” was born. While normally stripes and plaids might clash, Steven’s shirt and vest compliment each other by featuring a neutral background color, with lighter, simple colors for the patterns.

Steven the Fashionista
I'm making a second post for Steven Lim Appreciation Day 1 - because there are no rules!
I love his fashion sense, and in particular these jackets he wears. like this tropical one he wore in s3 of TMS
Tumblr media
and then brought it back for his Korea videos
Tumblr media
there's also this iconic bird jacket, that he's worn on Worth It at least twice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but also for this photoshoot that he did
Tumblr media
I can imagine going shopping with Steven would be a lot of fun!

Steven Lim Appreciation Week
Day 5 | Steven's Shows
It should be no surprise that I enjoy all of Steven's shows. His passion and creativity are so clearly visible, whether it's a one-off like Steven Tries 23 Korean Street Foods In A Row or a series like Dish Granted.
But my absolute favorite Steven show is Worth It.
Tumblr media
Worth It is probably one of if not the number one show that Buzzfeed ever produced, in terms of viewing range (bfu prob a close 2nd). They were popular not just to a select fandom but known worldwide. Popular enough to produce a UK spin-off, lifestyle spin-off, and the whole About To Eat channel, when you think about it.
To know that all of that happened in large part because of Steven's creativity and determination is nothing less than amazing to think about.
I also wonder if Watcher would have happened without Worth It being so successful?? Or maybe it would have been harder for them to find their initial support if it hadn't been for Steven's experience in hosting such a major show and all the connections he made through that experience?
Regardless, Worth It is terrific all on its own merit. If you watch them from the beginning you also get to see Steven's enthusiasm be passed onto Andrew as he stops playing the grumbly sidekick and becomes Steven's collaborator.
Yes, some of the dishes are there just to hit a certain price point, but it's easy to overlook when the trade-off is watching Steven, Andrew, and Adam having so much fun together and introducing all of us to unique dishes in remarkable places.
I know I'll always support whatever he (and hopefully all three of them!) make on Watcher. But Worth It was my introduction to Steven and it has such a special place in my heart. I've even gone out of my way to try a few restaurants the boys have been to (custom google maps lists - also worth it). There isn't an episode I don't enjoy rewatching and there are several I've seen half a dozen times already.
Worth It will always be my number one comfort show ❤️

Steven Lim Appreciation Week 2023
Day 6 | Steven Appreciation
For me, this day is harder than the others because there are almost too many thoughts I have about Steven that I don't know how to put into words.
To me, he's the most important Watcher founder, but gets the least love. That's why this week was special to me. I want more people to see and appreciate Steven and everything he does.
He may not directly produce Ghost Files, Puppet History, or Mystery Files, but the work he does behind the scenes gives Watcher what they need to make those shows.
Worth It creator. Amazing pet dad. Loving husband. An agent of chaos who doesn't believe in measuring drinks. Trusted friend. Watcher co-founder and so much more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next Watcher show announcement better include Steven!

Steven Lim Appreciation Week
Day 4 | Steven's Influence
Today is a chance to talk about Steven and the people in his life that he's closest to. It's hard to choose. Obviously his relationship with Tammy is strong and very inspiring. Or how close he is to Ryan and Shane to start a company with them. Not to mention Andrew and Adam and all of the wonderful times they shared on Worth It.
But I chose Steven and Simu Liu for today.
Steven having Simu on Dish Granted and the last season of Worth It, are both deeply personal to me.
Tumblr media
Same Simu. Same.
It's just nice to see that their friendship extends beyond any celebrity status. They're always travelling together, usually with their partners and friends too (friend group goals)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
to the basketball games, in NYC when Simu hosted SNL, and red carpet premieres
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
don't even get me started on Simu choosing his friends to be on Family Feud with him T_T
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and let's not forget these two (2!) very fun - and confusing - photos they shared with us
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's easy to find any number of people who Steven has had a positive influence on over the years, and they're all so valid. I'm just grateful that they're comfortable sharing so many of these moments with us.

Steven Week 2023: Steven Humor
Steven Week 2023
It’s Tuesday July 18th so today’s prompt is...
Tumblr media
Steven Humor! Let’s dive into some classic Lim Laughs.  There are honestly far too many funny Steven moments to name; as someone who is equal parts sincere and sarcastically humorous, you never quite know when a Lim Laugh will strike next, and this is the only time I like surprises XD
Tumblr media
When Ryan preferred Steven’s drink over Ricky’s on TMS and Steven ran around the perimeter of the brick sitting area and fire pit before doing a spirited tap dance of victory. Iconic.
Tumblr media
When Steven was on Top 5 Beatdown for “Chain Restaurants” and gave literally 0 f*cks about the comments made towards his picks.
(For context, Ryan said Steven flew a bit too close to the sun with his first three choices because his final two sucked and Steven said this in response).  (Mad respect for a guy who has literally dined on the finest of foods but still loves Skyline Chili. <3 )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Ryan was out sick and couldn’t film Watcher Weekly in person so he hopped on the phone, and Steven was so sick (heh) and tired of his shenanigans that he Peppa Pig’ed Ryan off the call.
Tumblr media
When Steven overfilled the instant pot with liquid for a soup he was making as part of a meal for a Michelin Star Chef (no pressure! ...cooker >:D) and called it ambition. (Honestly, also a good message we can all use in our lives <3 )

Steven Lim Appreciation Week 2023
Day 2 | Steven’s Humor
I think the times that we get to see Steven's humor shine the most on Watcher is during Too Many Spirits - yet another reason it's my favorite Watcher show! (I said what I said)
His friendly alien bartender character was a particularly unhinged joy to watch!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
seeing Shane and Ryan appreciate it too made it so much better
Tumblr media
One of my favorite Worth It moments is from the hot dogs episode, when he thought it would be funny to get up on the fire escape and throw candy at Andrew - who immediately knew he was there lol
Tumblr media
the brilliant @demonproofboi has a clip of the video on their blog and I've lost count of how many times I've watched it
There are so many other moments that come to mind and it shows that humor and wit come easily to a creative mind - which describes Steven so well!

Steven Lim Appreciation Week 2023
Day 1 | Steven's Looks
It's clearly impossible for me to narrow down my favorite photos of Steven to just a few so enjoy this long post!
Starting off strong - I mean. Just look at him!
Tumblr media
I love whatever event this was for (I know Ryan is gorgeous too, but focus on Steven). I like how they shared getting ready together and celebrating their friendship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and not to get too thirsty but remember when they released their Pride merch in 2021 and we all went a little feral for crop top Steven? bc I do (there's fanart btw)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steven also looks so good on a red carpet. Remember when he hosted the Unforgettable Gala red carpet event (that we didn't talk enough about) or his and Tammy's amazing looks at the Shang Chi premiere!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
can we also talk about how good he looks even when he's doing a spon?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
last, but not least, had to include this photo even though you can't see his face or smile, it feels like what Steven encompasses to me: light and color and warmth <3
Tumblr media
thank you so much to loveuniseposts for putting this week together!

Steven Week 2023: Steven Humor
Steven Week
It’s Wednesday July 19th so today’s prompt is...
Tumblr media
Steven, food, and how he makes you feel about it!
So, random fact about me, I actually had not really watched Worth It (or Buzzfeed Unsolved for that matter) prior to getting into Watcher content. My first real introduction to any of the three of them was their Watcher launch/announcement livestream and so my first experience with Steven food content was:
Tumblr media
I absolutely adored this show and am heartbroken over the timing that it came out due to a certain big, global event. But I am still so happy we got to have the wonderful episodes that we did. <3  Steven has this magical way of connecting to people, wanting to celebrate them and their stories with the utmost respect and reverence. He honestly seems to know everyone and it’s no surprise as to why.
In Homemade he showcased the love and passion that can go into cooking family meals, the collaborative process of making it together,  the joy people get from eating it.  (Honestly, the editing for this show was some of the most fantastic I’ve ever seen as well <3)
Tumblr media
This show is so underrated tbh. I loved watching Steven going through each aisle and finding all the ingredients while he simultaneously interviewed the guest of the week. Like jfc, the questions he asked were always so thoughtful and personalized, and he’d always take the time to mention the impact that said guest had on his life. I’ve never seen someone who has better interviewing skills than Steven Lim.
Tumblr media
Steven “I want to create a show where I express my love for those in my life through the language of food” Lim. Steven “I want to make your dinner dreams come true” Lim. Before contacting each guest to see what kind of dish they wanted him to craft, he would take the time to talk about how he knew the person and why they were important in his life. He’d want to go above and beyond each guest’s expectations, consulting experts in the field from his ROLODEX OF CONTACTS APPARENTLY (whose work he would also take the time to acknowledge).  And for his Mom and Dad too?!? Who are some of the sweetest people on the planet?!?! (Now we see where he gets it from <3)  The episode where he makes breakfast for his parents was especially important to me because that was the year that marked multiple years of me not seeing my family members for the holidays and so watching this during that time was extremely comforting <3

Steven Lim Appreciation Week
Day 3 | Steven & Food
Yes, food is food. A basic necessity.
But food is also culture. It's history. Sharing your favorite foods with someone is sharing a piece of your heart with them.
Food is love.
No one understands this better than Steven Lim. Not only did he create Worth It, that showcases dishes from all over the world and introduces people to foods and cultures they might not have known otherwise, but when given the chance to start his own company and create any content he wanted, he started with Homemade and Grocery Run. Because he understands that food speaks to people in a special way. He kept that going with his other shows, Dish Granted and Eat Like Me (and hopefully Eating 24 Hours or All the Foods one-offs that will become regular shows! 🤞🕯)
Tumblr media
That's what makes Steven-created shows so wholesome and comforting to watch. Even if we can't taste the foods along with him and his guests, we're given an opportunity to share in something special. Steven showcases the chefs and professionals who have a passion for their craft, or home cooks who give love by feeding their families recipes that have lasted for generations. He's taken us to high-end restaurants worldwide and into people's humble homes. He shows himself struggling to make a dish he's never attempted before, because he knows the outcome will make someone else happy.
Doesn't this look like the face of a man who knows he did something great?
Tumblr media
In Steven's own words:
"Taste is a subjective experience that's tied up with our memories, cultural upbringing, and nostalgia."
Food is a universal language that everyone speaks, and it's always a joy to hear what Steven will say to us next.

Steven Lim Appreciation Week Day 2: Steven’s bits and sense of humor
One thing I really enjoy about Steven Lim’s humor is that he can pull it off with a completely straight face. I love to see him laugh but I also love to see him being 100% deadpan about it - he’s not breaking the character, he’s not breaking the bit, he just commits.
I don’t know how he does it but he is so stellar at it and it is just a joy to watch.
