Steddie are the type of couple to go viral on TikTok bc someone recorded them at a bar. Theyâre stupidly in love, holding onto each other, sitting in each otherâs laps, kissing, holding hands, dancing, etc.
The person who posts them captions the video with: âI want a love like theirs omgâ
Everyone is going crazy, the video gets 3 million likes overnight because everyone is either obsessed with them as a couple or want to have a threesome with them.
No one really knows who they are but then Gareth on the corroded coffin account comments âEddie what are you doing here???â
Robin stitches the original video and it shows her deadpan face before she flips the camera and pans over to the two of them laying on the couch togetherâ Eddie is hand feeding Steve grapes while Steve is knitting a blanket for their bed.

First, I adore you and your brain. Second, I have a silly little ankle tattoo of a doodle (itâs a lemon man) my sister made and fully love poorly drawn lil things so Eddieâs octopus is my favorite. Third! I picked up crochet during the pandemic (the first bit lmao where I got laid off and super depressed) and itâs so therapeutic when i need to just shut down and focus on one thing because Iâm stressed or overwhelmed. Iâm working on coasters right now, and god theyâre so much easier than the first coaster pattern I tried (that one put me off for a while). I just had a funny thought though, of when Steve gets fully into it and does what a lot of us crafters do and stocks up on yarn for future projects.
I bought a big ass show organizer for all of mine and have to restrict myself to just what fits in there
(Also Iâm picturing Eddie in a wonky hat like the one I just tried to make for my sisterâs cat but heâs still wearing it super proud)
At the start of the pandemic, I got a new job where I was working half in the office and half from home. I also moved out of my parentsâ house so I suddenly alone all the time and to kinda cope with that, I picked up knitting. I originally tried crochet but I just couldnât get my hands to work right, but Iâve gotten it down (at least enough to do the second row), and I agree with you. It is very therapeutic and Iâm happy that it was able to help you through a rough time.
And lol, but all of us crafters are the same because I have a whole shelf dedicated to yarn I bought for future knitting (and now crochet) projects.
Itâs not Steveâs intention.
He is just trying this hobby out so he can tell his physical therapist that he gave it a go and it didnât work. Steve is not crafty or creative like Eddie, so he doesnât need to buy all this stuff.
But he did need to buy melting chocolate, so he agreed to go when Robin asked if he wanted to go to Michaelâs with her. And yeah, maybe he did pick up a new crochet hook but thatâs because thereâs clearly something wrong with his. What other explanation is there for why he keeps skipping stitches?
And maybe he did get a new skein of yarn, but heâs just being practical. If heâs going to make Eddie a hat than he is going to need a color that compliments Eddieâs complexion, right? He might as well get this blue too. Itâs a pretty color and thereâs only like, five skeins left. It could disappear forever.
Then he bought a bowl to hold his yarn but it was cute! It was shaped like a sloth. And yeah, he got the yarn winder thing. Thatâs just practical. And okay, well. Joannâs has magazines with patterns in them so Steveâs going to need that.
And it all kinda just snowballs until, âBabe, what the hell did you buy for a hundred and fifty dollars at Michaelâs?â
Steve, surrounded by yarn in each color, âNothing.â
Also, Eddie absolutely wears anything that Steve makes him. A fan took a picture of him buying cigarettes in a lopsided hat. Another fan took a picture of him at show where his guitar strap has a single crochet chain wrapped around it. Thereâs a Tiktok where Eddie is pulling his hair up with a crocheted scrunchie.

Oh to be Steddie's crafty GF~!
So, im touching on this topic in my Steve x Manic Pixie Dream couple story, of course, but I just wanna take a moment to gush about this idea.
Like, making things for them would be lit. My first thought is making Sports merch for Steve!! Shirts, hats, shorts, whatever. You either hand dye it to match the team colors or upcycle already existing things to add some personality to it.
Oh!! And upcycling his old clothes! Bet, you take some of his old polos and make dresses out of them by adding fabric to it! I think he'd love seeing you walk around knowing that shirt used to be his once upon a time. You just look so cute, and he'll even buy a new matching polo. (Listen, Steve feels like the type of dude who would 100% be down for matching things. I just feel it in my bones.)
Personally, I headcanon that Steve isn't very artistic. Not that he doesn't get it or he doesn't like it, no. It's just, he's never really felt the need to pursue it. He'll join in on activities involving crafts, but he's more interested in the social aspect rather then the craft itself. Likes watching others be creative and supporting them in doing so!! He loves watching you and Eddie in your elements, offering support and opinions when he can but ultimately just vibing.
Speaking of our dear Metalhead, craft buddies!!! You can not convince me that man hasn't got a crafty bone in his body, because he absolutely does! Now, I feel like Eddie is the embodiment of those cross stitch/embroidered pieces where you expect some wholesome, grandmotherly quote but instead its "This isn't a whore house, its a whore home." Or he'd 100% be the one who makes something vaguely (lets face it, theres no subtly) phallic or vaginal shaped. My dude is putting dicks, butts, boobs and coochie where he can, if he can.
That aside, I do think he's very artistic and actually does have things to say with that talent. Be it music, his writing, or any art medium you'd think he'd pick up. Sure, there's goofy stuff, but mixed in are some deeper meanings. Messages about the world and his life. I also think that stuff is really good. He puts a lot of effort into it, even the joke stuff. Hell, especially the joke stuff because "obviously you gotta make the boobs sit correctly or else the whole bit is thrown off, Steve!" (Steve reacting to that art just sounds so funny to me. He's supportive but also how can they bring anyone over anymore when there's a painting of a weed leaf hanging over the couch, or the goofy art of butts in the bathroom???) Also, I do think Eddie would happily make you both things. In fact, thats his love language. He's written you both songs, made patches for clothes, has even helped you in making custom Sports merch for Steve. Beyond just crafts, I also think he likes fixing things. (Even if Steve tells him he'll just buy a new one, Eddie likes seeing if he can fix it.)
Okay i think I got on a Eddie craft rant right there, but!! Back to you!! So, I imagine you've helped Eddie make props for campaigns, screen printed shirts for Corroded Coffin, and Hellfire, and also just thing's he likes. Custom band merch, book merch, all the merch!
As for your own crafts for yourselves, they love seeing what you come up with! If you make clothes, they absolutely want to see them. If you make jewelry, they admire it on you all the time. If you do something else, like crochet or knit, they love watching your hands as you work with the yarn. If you cook or bake, you bet your ass that they want to eat it, whatever it is. Steve is just so in awe of your ability to create something out of thin air. Eddie is constantly inspired and finds a muse in both you and Steve.
Just, being the crafty GF of them sounds nice~

blog introduction!
hello! finally, after a long time of wanting to, i finally decided to make a blog! as i am still planning and putting everything together, i thought that i may as well post an introduction post!
my main focus for this blog likely will be for writing some original work and mainly fanfic writing, and likely some chronic illness/disability content!
my inspiration to create this came from my longtime longing to write and share my own work as i have been an avid reader, especially of fanfics, and i have many, many, ideas living in my head. i originally started planning out a few (a lot) of multi chapter stories, both fanfics and original work/ideas, and i had everything planned out thoroughly, however since i had never committed to writing something to that extent, i thought where best to start than with one-shots and short stories!
besides the writing, i also was inspired to post about and make content about chronic illness and disability as it is something that i live with and is a big part of my life, and when i first started my âjourneyâ of learning how to live with these things, i felt very alone and craved to have somewhere where i could relate and feel less alone in my experiences, so my hope with this blog is to be a place and resource to do such a thing that i, and likely many others would seek out.
about the person behind the blog!
you can call me mae, and my pronouns are she/her, and i am eighteen years old
some of my interests include, reading, educating myself on pretty much anything i possibly can, but especially science related things, writing, poetry, baking, gardening, photography, knitting (attempting to) and crocheting, sewing, and would also love to get into pottery!
i love listening to music, with some (but not limited to) of my favourite artists being david bowie, the smiths, hozier, taylor swift, phoebe bridgers, tv girl, mac demarco, mitski, and big thief! (inspo for some of my writing)
some of my favourite tv shows, movies, books and general fandoms i am in include (in no particular order) the walking dead, fleabag, all the bright places, criminal minds, bones, the last of us, dead poets society, harry potter, house, greys anatomy, stranger things, and i have just recently started getting into the x-files
plans i have for my writing
i have many, many, writing ideas, especially for fanfics and one-shots, and some of (but not limited to) the characters i will be writing (platonic and romantic) for include:
(for marvel) peter parker (mainly tom holland and andrew garfieldâs spider-manâs), pietro maximoff, bucky barnes, logan howlett, matt murdock, stephen strange, natasha romanoff, loki, bruce banner, tony stark
(for twd) daryl dixon, rick grimes, maggie greene/rhee, glenn rhee, carl grimes, rosita espinosa
(for tlou) joel miller, ellie williams
(for criminal minds) spencer reid, aaron hotchner, emily prentiss, derek morgan
(for harry potter) fred and george weasley, remus lupin, sirius black, james potter
(stranger things) steve harrington, eddie munson, robin buckly
(the x files) fox mulder, dana scully
there is probably many characters missing from my list above, which is why i will be creating a separate post that will go more into detail about the characters i plan on writing for. i will also be creating a separate post that goes more in detail about the types of writing that i will do, and the types that i will not write, and will include a link for requests.
as my writing/blog progresses, i will be making a navigation post that will have links to important information like my blog rules, masterlists and etcetera, but i thought that i might as well include some info here so you know what to expect!

See, just because Steve lets Eddie and the kids play D&D at his house now doesn't mean he's really interested in the game, just the same as even though El and Max sometimes tag along, they're really there to hang out, not play. They each bring their own things to do, and one night El brings a ball of yarn and a shiny little metal hook and a vaguely rectangular yarn-thing that she focuses very hard on while the boys shout in the background.
Steve has no idea what she's doing; he'd say she's knitting, except he's almost certain that involves some kind of sticks, not a hook. But since he's not really doing anything himself, he sits down next to her and asks what she's up to.
"Joyce has been teaching me how to crochet. She says it will help with my hand-eye coordination." El holds up her project with a proud smile. "I am starting with a scarf."
It's not the world's most attractive scarf, but it's not like Steve could do better. He's still not entirely sure what crocheting is, to be perfectly honest. "Is that different from knitting?" he asks.
El nods gravely. "It is," she says, and takes to showing him how she loops the yarn over the hook and pulls it through the stitches in her scarf and adds a few more inches to the row she's working on.
When Steve's attention doesn't completely wane during her demonstration, she pulls a second ball of yarn out of her bag and presents it to Steve.
"Oh, I don'tâ" Steve tries to demur, but El is determined, and Steve has seen entire dimensions pale in the face of her determination.
This is how he finds himself crocheting a little chain of stitches with just his fingers, the same way Joyce had apparently started El off. El beams at him and returns to her own project, occasionally checking on his progress. The chain is a few feet long by the time everyone needs to be driven home, and Steve decides it actually hadn't been a bad way to pass the time. Kind of relaxing.
The next time everyone is over, El sits down with her scarf, and after a short while, Steve sits down next to her. He compliments how much longer the scarf has gotten (and it does seem like the shape has evened out a bit as she's been going along). She smiles and pulls another ball of yarn out of her bag. This time, she has an extra hook and seems intent on showing Steve what to do with it.
Almost involuntarily, Steve's attention flashes to the group clustered around the table, hesitating to take the yarn from El, and she frowns.
"Joyce says these types of skills are important for everyone to have," El says firmly, and, wellâ Steve's not really going to argue.
He learns how to crochet a chain with the hook. It feels odd in his hands at firstâthe shape too small, the metal a little too slick, the yarn not wrapping naturally around his fingers the way it does El'sâbut he gets the hang of it. When El is pleased with his progress, she shows him the stitch she's been using: a simple single crochet. It's tougher than it looks, and Steve understands immediately why El's scarf is so uneven; neither of them have ever done anything like this before.
Still, he doesn't hate it.
In fact, he really kind of enjoys it.
He enjoys it enough that he asks El to show him more the next time she's over. She's still new herself and is really only working with pretty much the same couple of stitches, but she proudly teaches him what she knows, and Steve picks it up as fast as she's able to lay it down.
Steve goes out and buys his own supplies, no longer content with mooching off of El's. He hadn't realized there were so many different kinds of yarn, and resigns himself to awkwardly asking one of the craft store employees what type might be best for beginners.
The employeeâa woman about his motherâs age with a much warmer smile and far less judgement in her eyesâexplains with great enthusiasm what all those different types of yarn might be used for, and how the size of the hook affects the outcome of the project, and shows him so many different pattern books his head spins. He realizes that she probably upsells him on a lot of shit, but he leaves with a few different sizes of hooks, some new yarn, and more excitement for a hobby than he's felt probably since high school.
El and Robin are the only ones who know about his new hobby, of course. It's not really that he's ashamed to tell the others, he just knows how teenage boys work and he's not keen on giving a bunch of fifteen-year-olds another reason to bully him. Maybe in a few months. In the meantime, he crochets at home while he's listening to the radio or watching TV, and he crochets at work during down times. Robin finds his newfound hobby morbidly fascinating, but vehemently denies any and all offers to teach her.
("I will find a way to damage myself with that hook and I think we both know that," she says. "It's just kind of wild to see you with a grandma hobby."
Steve threatens to tell El she called it that, and Robin shortly finds a new label for it.)
Fall rolls around and the air acquires a chill sometime in mid-October. Steve's been making practice scarves for a little while now (largely because he really only knows how to make rectangles at this point, but he doesnât have the attention span for a whole blanket just yet), and he even considers wearing his least heinous attempt despite the fact he's never really wanted for good winter clothes. Then he notices Eddie.
Most of their little group has begun dressing appropriately for the weather, but Eddie doesn't do much more than add a pair of fingerless black gloves and maybe a heavier leather jacket to his ensemble. Steve's not even sure it's because he can't afford it â he's pretty sure it's because Eddie is committed to his aesthetic. Nancy had tried to force an extra scarf on him one day after a little cold snap, when they'd woken to frost on the ground (the scarf is blue, patterned with white snowflakes; it's actually Mikeâs, but Mike is also refusing to wear it and Steve suspects Nancy doesnât want to hold it, but also doesnât want to get in trouble for letting Mike lose it), but Eddie had declined, insisting it doesn't match his vibe.
Steve can respect this. He himself has a certain aesthetic going on. However, he can also see that Eddie is definitely cold, and that just won't do.
He picks through the scarves and other various wooly things he's accumulated so far, but decides none of them would suit Eddie and, besides that, none of them are really warm enough. If he's going to make Eddie a scarf, it ought to be a good one.
So Steve sucks it up and heads into Melvald's one day when he knows Joyce will be on shift, hoping she won't be too busy for a quick chat.
When he catches her, Steve explains that El had shown him the basics of crocheting but that his ambitions have outgrown his skills and maybe if she isn't too busy sometime, Joyce would be willing to show him a little more?
Joyce, because sheâs a saint, says she would be delighted, and invites Steve to come over on their next shared day off.
When he gets there, she tries to ask him who he's making the scarf for, and the best he manages is, "...someone."
Joyce bites down on a smile. "Someone?"
"It's a surprise," Steve finally declares.
"For everyone?"
"Yes."
Joyce bravely manages to not laugh at Steve and instead asks him what kind of scarf he thinks Someone would like.
Steve decides that it needs to be thick, but it should also be soft. It should also be textured, because Edâ because Someone really likes fiddling with things. He can't get too ambitious with colors or patterns, but he decides that black and grey stripes will be perfectly suitable.
(He doesn't kid himself into thinking that by the time their brainstorming session is over, Joyce hasn't figured out exactly who he's talking about, but she's kind enough not to say it out loud.)
Steve's always been good with repetition and patternsâit's probably one of the reasons heâd found crocheting so relaxing in the first placeâand he picks up the new stitches with ease under Joyce's deft instruction. She sends him home with the practice piece he'd made with some of her scrap yarn, and after a quick stopover at the craft store on his way home (he briefly gets stuck between shades of grey, but eventually decides on the silvery one over the steely one), he's ready to begin.
He expects making the scarf to be tougher, but once he gets into the rhythm of it, he sails right through. It takes him less than a week (albeit devoting a few solid hours to it every day, possibly more on his days off) to end up with what is, if he may say so himself, a pretty fine scarf.
The challenge comes in actually giving it to Eddie.
Christmas would be an excellent excuse for presenting it to him, except that's a little over a month away, and Steve doesn't want Eddie to go cold until then. Instead, he takes to keeping the scarf in his glove compartment just in case the perfect occasion for giving Eddie a scarf arises.
And much to Steve's surprise, one actually does.
It's right after the first real snow, and Steve has insisted on driving to pick Eddie up so they can hang out (Steve has nightmares about Eddie's driving when road conditions are optimal, never mind when the roads may be icy). He can see Eddie shivering under his jacket, blowing warm air into his cupped hands (Steve wonders if he could learn how to crochet gloves at some point, too. Ones with full fingers), so he ever-so-casually gestures to the glove box and tells Eddie, "Hey, if you're cold, I've got an extra scarf in there."
He's possibly not as casual as he hopes he is (or maybe Eddie just sees through him, like he always seems to), because Eddie gives him a look. "You do, huh?"
"Yep."
Steve concentrates very hard on the road in order to avoid Eddie's eyes. It doesn't stop him from hearing the little laugh Eddie lets out before popping open the glove compartment.
"Oh," Eddie says quietly as he pulls the scarf out, likely having been expecting another castoff piece of outerwear. "This is... actually really nice."
For a moment, Steve can't help but glance over to see the way Eddie is fingering the crocheted ridges of the scarf, running a thumb over the bright silver stripes picked out of the black, and he immediately looks back up at the road.
"Yeah. You shouldâ you can, uh. Keep it. If you want," he says, and wonders what happened to the days when he was smooth.
"No, man, this is, like, for real nice. I couldn't take this," Eddie says, though he's still holding the scarf in his lap.
Steve draws a breath in. "I mean, I was kind of hoping you would, since it's for you."
"Seriously?"
They have unfortunately arrived at Steve's house at this point, and there will be no avoiding the conversation now.
"Yeah," Steve says. "I, uh. Made it for you. So you should take it. Don't let my hard work go to waste, yeah?"
"You're shitting me," Eddie unfolds the scarf and holds it up in delighted scrutiny. "You made this?"
(Distantly, Steve appreciates that the emphasis isn't on "you made this?" Like Eddie doesn't immediately doubt he's capable, only that he's holding a handmade item at all.)
"Yeah. No big deal." Steve shrugs.
"You made this for me." Eddie looks at Steve, and it sounds like that had been meant as a question, though it comes out in flat uncertainty.
"Yeah. Just noticed you were cold, but you won't wear anything that doesn't match your aesthetic," Steve tries to tease, wiggling his fingers at Eddie's outfit, but Eddie doesn't say anything in return.
He doesn't say anything for just long enough that Steve gets insecure all over again, reaching hesitantly for the scarf.
"But, I mean, if that's weird, or whatever, you don't have to-"
"Nope. Fuck off, I'm wearing this forever." Eddie loops the scarf quickly around his neck and squeezes the ends in his hands. "Jesus, this is soft."
Steve grins. "I'm not sure it'll last forever, but I can make you another after than one wears out."
"You'd better," Eddie says, and he's grinning too. "So, what, you knit?"
Steve points a very serious finger into Eddie's face. "Crochet. There's a difference," he says sternly.
Then, because he can't help it, he bops the end of Eddie's nose before getting out of the car, leaving Eddie to scramble out behind him, laughing and calling him a dork as he goes.
(The kids, incidentally, don't tease Steve nearly as much as he'd thought they would when they find out.
This is possibly because they're more mature than he gave them credit for, but more likely itâs because El is standing beside him and daring them to say anything unfavorable about their shared hobby.
Mostly they just let it slide, though Dustin demands to know why Eddie got a scarf and he didn't. Then Lucas wants one, too, because Mike and Max have already received various bits of outerwear from El, and he's not about to be left out. And then Robin, of course, will want to know why Steve hasnât made her anything, once she finds out that heâs making things for the kids.
Steve resigns himself to a busy winter spent under a pile of yarn.
It's not really a hardship.)

A little continuation of my roommates au from the other day
Eddie adores his roommate, Steve. He's a sweetheart to everyone, almost: Eddie has seen the guy wake up out of a dead sleep because a specific ringtone plays on his phone, and then proceed to talk whoever is on the other end down from what sounds like a pretty nasty panic attack. He talks constantly about "the kids," a group of twenty-year-olds that have apparently been in Steve's life since they were eleven, and they way he speaks about them is closer to a proud parent than it is a family friend or (as Steve claims) babysitter.
Steve is also the perfect house spouse. The guy works a full-time job (whatever it is, he won't tell Eddie) and still insists that he does all the cooking and most of the cleaning. Eddie mentioned once that his favorite way to relax was to listen to heavy metal, and any time Steve is home before Eddie, that's what's playing through the apartment. And Steve KNITS, too. Just sits in their living room, wearing sinfully short shorts, a soft yellow sweater, and his glasses (these stupid FUCKING frames that make Eddie want to do awful, awful things to Steve before marrying him), knitting blankets and sweaters. Once, Eddie saw him crocheting a crop top using the colors of the lesbian flag, and he almost proposed right then.
But Steve, perfect, beautiful Steve, is the definition of a himbo. He's broad and strong, but it's like talking to a puppy. He tilts his head to the side and gets this adorable little expression on his face, like there's nothing going on behind those pretty brown eyes. He smiles and blushes such a pretty shade of red whenever Eddie calls him pet names, and Eddie desperately wants to see just how far he can make that blush spread.
But there's something about Steve that he can't figure out. The guy sleeps with a knife under his pillow and a bat with these long, jagged nails sticking out of the end propped against his bedframe. He wakes up from awful night terrors he won't talk about at least twice a week, and never brings any of his friends or his kids around the apartment. He gets shifty whenever Eddie brings it up.
In fact, the only thing Eddie DOES know for sure about his roommate is that he gets a visitor once a month: a police officer from Bumfuck, Indiana named Hopper. Hopper shows up on the first Saturday of every month like clockwork, and spends the day with Steve in the apartment. Eddie knows something weird's going on, because Steve calls the cop "Dad" and asks for updates on everything happening in his hometown. One memorable June, Hopper had brought news that Richard and Karen Harrington died in a fiery car crash, and Steve spent the entire rest of the visit with misty eyes, but once Hopper left it was like a heavy burden was gone.
Eddie has no idea what's going on with his roommate Steve, but he's too infatuated to not find out.

âŚď¸ and Steve Harrington
hiiii! thank you for sending this in and sorry it took a few days to get back with my answer!!
⌠- quirks/hobbies headcanon
quirks:
even though steve is like, big on styling his hair, i like to think that he actually has a habit of constantly touching it. like, when he's nervous he'll run his fingers through it, toss it to the side, scratch at the back of his neck and mess with the end of it that sit against his nape. or if he's frustrated he'll tug on the strands. or those moments when he just doesn't know what to do with his hands, they go to his hair. he catches himself doing it a lot, often will start to reach for it before remembering that he took the time to do his hair up today so touching it would ruin that and his hand falls back to his side.
also, as we've seen in that one gifset, steve pinches his nose when he's trying not to cry. it's almost like he's physically trying to hold the tears back. but there's just something about focusing on the pressure at the bridge of his nose instead of whatever it is that's pushing him towards the edge that helps, so he keeps doing it.
he loves to tell dad jokes and he is chock FULL of those really corny dad sayings, like when he gets the bill at dinner he goes "alright, what's the damage?" or when he's ready to leave he'll turn to whoever he's giving a ride home and say "let's rock and roll" before heading out to the car or he 100% does that thing where he'll be sitting on the couch in the wheeler basement during movie night and he's sitting there with his arms crossed and his head tipped back and he's definitely absolutely totally sleeping, like he's even snoring a teeny tiny bit, and when one of the kids like kicks him to wake him up he'll sort of snuffle and blink around and go "no, no, i'm not sleeping, i'm just resting my eyes".
hobbies:
steve is a jogger. he takes it up as a low pressure form of exercise because, well, he's not in high school anymore. he doesn't have basketball or baseball or swim to rely on to keep himself in shape. and while he is absolutely not like out here trying to this totally jacked dude, he does want to stay in shape. (plus the routine of it is good for him). ((double plus, well, it's hard to predict the next time he's going to need to run for his life so. might as well stay prepared, right?)) but yeah, he takes up running and he likes it. it makes him feel good. it's low stakes, too. there's no competition, or prize to win, or records to beat. it's just him and his shoes and the trail. so he does it every morning. wakes up with the sun, has far too much energy and far too chipper of an attitude for 6:30 in the morning (which eddie complains about often and quite vocally), laces up his shoes, and hits the pavement.
in addition to jogging, i think he would take a liking to hiking too. more physical activity, this time with the promise of reaching a destination. he likes to enjoy the fresh air and connect with the nature around him. his favorite hikes are the ones he can convince eddie to join him on. eddie complains a lot (mostly about the heat or the early hour or his legs feeling like jelly) but he also genuinely does enjoy it and he lets steve know that too. holds his hand while they hike up the hill, tips his head onto steve's shoulder when they reach the top and watch the sun rise.
steve also takes up knitting. or crocheting. or both. he finds it very calming, the repetitious movements, and he loves watching nothing turn into something before his very eyes. the first sweater he knits is the ugliest thing ever, but eddie insists that he has to wear it, and without fail, every time the weather starts to turn cold, he pulls that lumpy thing out and wears it proudly. steve gets better over time, and once he's good enough, he loves to make things for his friends. sweaters, socks, hats, gloves. all of it. they all love their gifts and wear them all the time.
i think it would also be fun if steve got into like putting together model cars. like one day eddie has to go to some craft store for more paint or something and steve tags along, and while eddie's searching for his paint, steve's wandering the store and he comes across this model car that's his exact make and model BMW and he's like hey! it's my car! and so he's like what the hell and buys it, and he takes it home, and he works on it, and he actually finds it pretty fun, putting it together. i don't think he'd be the kind of person that would get like obsessively into this, but i think he'd find it fun to do every so often.

( @nitro502-the-sequelââs tags on this post made me ugly laugh and then I had to write something, I hope thatâs okay??)
Wait, no, this is hilarious, hold on
Steve drops Eddie off at home later that night, where Wayne is awake and puttering around in the kitchen making what might possibly be lunch (he tends to keep overnight hours even on his days off, so as not to completely fuck his sleep schedule, but hell if Eddie can keep track of what time of âdayâ it is for him).
Wayne gives Eddie a nod of acknowledgement and turns back to the pan heâs stirring on the stove. âHow was yourââ
âHE CROCHETED ME A SCARF.â
This was a little louder than Eddie had meant to be, but Wayne, to his credit, doesnât even flinch. He turns back to look at where Eddie is standing in the middle of the living area, clutching the ends of the aforementioned scarf like itâs a towel at the end of the world.
âWho did?â
âSteve.â
âHuh,â is all Wayne says. âIs crocheting the thing with theâŚ?â He holds his fists out in front of him, rotating them at the wrists like heâs rowing a very tiny boat.
âNo, thatâs knitting. Apparently, theyâre different,â Eddie says, brows raised and hands held up in front of him, like he can fend off the ghost of Steveâs surprisingly enthusiastic lecture on the subject. âCrocheting is with a hook, likeââ Eddie holds out one curled fist, trying to demonstrate, but it mostly just looks like heâs either stabbing something or failing to pick up some invisible spaghetti. He gives up and flutters his hands in front of himself, clearing the image. âHe showed me â never mind, itâs â youâre missing the point!â
âAnd Iâm sure youâre gonna tell me what that is,â Wayne says, turning back to the stove before the beans (Eddieâs pretty sure itâs beans heâs smelling) start to burn.
âSteve crocheted me a scarf,â Eddie enunciates, because putting the proper emphasis on certain words will definitely solve the problem.
Wayne just hums. âWell, that was nice of him. Lord knows I can never get you to wear anything warm.â
Eddie groans, clutching at this scalp and then running his hands through his hair. Heâs at least seventy-five percent certain Wayne is being obtuse on purpose.
âBut what am I supposed to do about it?â he laments.
âWear it, Iâd say,â Wayne replies. âCan I see it?â
Eddie hesitates for a second, because itâs his scarf and Steve made it for him, and he doesnât want anything to happen to it when he hasnât even had it for twenty-four hours, but then he decides heâs being ridiculous, because if he can trust anyone with his stuff, itâs Wayne. He unwinds the scarf from around his neck and passes it over.
Wayneâs brows go up as he looks over the close, even stitches, running his fingers over the little ridges Steve somehow made with yarn. He nods appraisingly. âItâs nice,â he says, handing it back.
âRight?â Eddie tosses it back around his neck with a sigh.
âDid you say thank you?â
âYes,â Eddie says, before thinking back over the moment when Steve had told him that the scarf was for him. ââŚmore or less.â
Wayne shakes his head, turning back to his food with some unfavorable mutter about Eddieâs manners.
âOkay, but I think youâre still not seeing the problem here,â Eddie insists.
âLooks like the problem is that youâre having a conniption over a scarf in the middle of the damn living room,â Wayne shoots back.
âNo, thatâsâ well I meanâ no,â Eddie sputters. âOkay, look, what would you do if a girl made a scarf for you?â
Wayne pauses, and Eddie loves his uncle with his whole shriveled heart, but it is always funny watching him try to shift gears when he realizes theyâre talking about gay things now.
âWell,â Wayne says slowly, âpretty sure Iâm a little too old to have any girl knitting me a scarf.â
âOh my god,â Eddie groans. âFine! A mature woman, then. Work with me here!â
Eddie gets a raised eyebrow at the mature woman comment, but Wayne lets it slide. He tilts his head consideringly as he spoons some beans out onto a plate by the stove, where heâs already got toast waiting. He tilts the pan at Eddie, wordlessly offering, and Eddie shakes his head.
âI suppose Iâd have to get her something in return,â Wayne finally says. âOr make her something, if I was the creative type.â
Eddie gets another pointed look at those last two words, and he groans again, letting his head fall back in defeat, because heâd been afraid that would be the answer.
âI donât know what the hell Iâm supposed to make. Itâs not like I can make him warm clothes or do anything useful,â Eddie says, so caught up in the sudden and dramatic realization that all of his hobbies are entirely useless that he doesnât manage to duck in time when Wayne gives him a not-entirely-gentle smack on the back of the head as he passes by into the living room.
âStop that. The things you make are just fine. It doesnât have to be useful, it just has to be thoughtful,â Wayne says, settling into his chair. âSo quit standing around whining and go come up with something you can make to woo your boy.â
âOh my god.â Eddie covers his face, even though Wayne will definitely already know heâs gone red. âYouâre actually the worst. I donât know why I talk to you.â
âYouâre welcome for the advice,â Wayne drawls.
âYeah, yeah.â Eddie waves a dismissive hand at him, but the quick âthanksâ he throws out afterwards is entirely sincere.
He retreats to his room after that; apparently, he has some thinking to do.

Little epilogue to the âSteve crochets Eddie a scarfâ story (I promise Iâm done now)
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Ao3
âWhat are you working on?â El asks, leaning slightly into Eddieâs space to watch as he works.
Eddie pulls his latest stitch tight and tilts the fabric a bit so El can see the patch heâs securing. âIâm putting my new battle vest together,â he says. âSince someone bled all over the last one.â
âYou knew I was bleeding when you gave it to me!â Steve snaps from the other end of the couch. âAnyway, we salvaged most of the patches, I donât see why you have to keep complaining about it.â
âBecause youâre so pretty when youâre irritated,â Eddie says, and he can hear Will give a snort of laughter from where heâs bent over a sketchpad on the floor.
Baby Byers is the latest addition to their little group of creatives; he doesnât do anything with yarn or thread, but he does set up with colored pencils or, sometimes, a little set of watercolors and listens while Steve and Joyce gossip.
(His presence has stumped Steveâs continued efforts at naming the group, however.
âFive people probably makes up, like, an actual circle, but he doesnât do⌠fabric-related things,â Steve ponders.
âCall it a craft pentagram,â Eddie suggests.
âNo,â Steve vetoes immediately. âBesides, itâs six when Murray shows up.â
Right. That guy.
Eddie isnât quite sure what he thinks of Murray Bauman just yet; he doesnât appreciate the relentless roasting of his and Steveâs âhoneymoon phaseâ (Baumanâs words, not his), but it is funny watching him threaten to teach Steve how to knit. In either case, Bauman and Joyce are good friends, so heâll have to be included in the final group count.
Eddie and Steve decide to think on the name a little longer.)
âWhat is a battle vest?â El asks.
âItâs a metal thing. You put stuff like patches and pins onto a vest to show off the bands you like, the stuff you support, the stuff you donât support â shit like that.â Eddie spreads the vest out a bit more to show El what heâs gotten done so far; heâs collected a few more patches since this spring, and heâs still considering what he wants to do with the pack panel, but he thinks itâs really coming together.
El runs a finger over the MotĂśrhead patch. âAnd you sew it yourself?â
âThatâs the only way to do it, kid.â Eddie grins. âMy uncle Wayne taught me to sew when I came to stay with him. Said it was something everyone should know how to do.â Here, El nods wisely, and Eddie can see both Steve and Joyce grinning in his periphery. âIâm pretty sure I fidgeted and fussed through every single lesson, but he was right. I was glad I at least knew the basics once I started putting my first vest together.â
El studies his work a little longer before declaring, âItâs bitchinâ,â and startling a bark of laughter out of Eddie.
âThank you very much,â he says, pulling the vest back into his lap. âAt least someone appreciates it.â
âNot taking the bait,â Steve drawls.
âDid you do these, too?â El draws Eddieâs attention back; sheâs brushing a thumb over the bottom hem of the vest, where Eddie has sewn in a tiny swarm of bats in purple thread.
âOh. Yeah, those are mine,â Eddie says. âThatâs a little different from what Iâm doing with the patches. Just some dumb embroidery.â
âI like it,â El says, looking up at him. âWould you show me how?â
Eddie blinks, taken aback by the sincerity in the request. âUh â well, yeah, sure. I think Iâve got some extra stuff at home I can bring next time. Iâm not, like, the best at it, butââ
âThank you.â El cuts off Eddieâs uncertainty with a smile. âAnd I can show you how to crochet.â
Eddie canât say heâs ever really wanted to learn how to crochet â or that heâd even really known what it was until a few months ago; heâs mostly been content to leave that particular craft to Steve.
He glances over to where Steve is sitting now, frowning over the blanket (afghan?) heâs finally decided to try his hand at; despite what Steve says about not being sure about what heâs doing, itâs coming out beautifully. Eddie knows itâs going to end up a prized possession on Buckleyâs bed when itâs done.
From the chair beside Steveâs end of the couch, Joyce catches Eddieâs eye and gives him a sly smile he finds he canât help but return.
And as Eddie thinks about it, itâs a gift all on its own, isnât it? Getting to teach someone something you know, getting to learn something from them, too. And hell, you can never have too many hobbies.
âYeah,â Eddie finally says, turning back to El. âWhy not?â
