March 27th 1986, if you ask Eddie Munson, sucks. It blows, the worst of the worst (it’s technically the day he ‘died’.)
It will always be known around Hawkins that Eddie Munson died. That a few days before he supposedly killed Chrissy Cunningham, that he ran from her body because he didn’t know what else to do. So to Hawkins, March 27th is a day that cult leader, murderer Eddie Munson died.
March 27th, 1986
Everything hurts, he can feel so many fangs biting into him. He’s pretty sure he’s screaming but his body is buzzing from the pain and his eyes are tightly shut. Hopefully his death is worth it, that him being demo-bat bait is enough time for the rest to defeat Vecna. It’s one of his only thoughts in his head, the other? He’s thinking about how disappointed he is that he didn’t get to make Harrington flush a pretty red down his chest, it’s not important but he saw the man’s face when ‘Big Boy’ came out of his mouth.
He doesn’t know how long the bats attack him, doesn’t know when the pain stopped. Doesn’t know if he passed out or actually died. All he knows currently is pain.
“-st keep it quiet in here, ok? We do have other patients in the rooms next door. Now, visiting hours is until seven and only one person can spend the night here.” A woman’s voice wakes him up and he doesn’t know who it is, “I’ll be back later to check vitals, please remember to keep it down”
There’s a few quiet ‘sorry ma’am’s and ‘won’t happen again’s and a door closing before he’s listening to voices get louder and definitely bickering. Then someone saying ‘shh’ over and over, “come on shithead, my head hurts and the doctors said Eddie needs rest and your voice is so annoying”
He wants to laugh, thinks he makes some sort of sound because the room falls silent.
“Eddie? Are you- are you awake?”
His eyes feel heavy but he manages to blink them open. Vision is blurry and he groans, blinking more and then the room is more in focus. The first thing he notices is the fact that he’s in a hospital room. There’s a beeping he didn’t notice, there’s an IV hooked to his arm and he doesn’t have to see to know everyone in the room is staring at him. The first person he notices is undoubtedly his Uncle Wayne, who’s tearing up and moves closer to the bed. “Ed, ya really scared me”
“I’m sorry, Wayne” he mumbles out immediately tearing up, he didn’t mean to upset his uncle. Just wanted to help, to make up for not saving Chrissy. Can’t get those words out, they’re stuck in his throat and he accepts the hug from Wayne within seconds. “Didn’t mean too, swear.”
Wayne huffs a laugh and tightens his arm, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
The moment doesn’t last long and next thing he knows, there’s Henderson looking both guilty and pissed off. “Dude! You didn’t need to do that!”
Eddie rolls his eyes and doesn’t answer him, doesn’t even pretend to think about anything to reply back, instead he looks around the room and notices Wheeler, Buckley and then his eyes find Harrington siting next to him. He’s actually the only one sitting down, looking exhausted and in pain.
Now’s not the time but hey, he almost died and a little high from the drugs and the fact that he’s fucking alive right now. He’s shooting his shot.
“Hey, Steve, wasn’t planning on asking you, but it appeared to me that life is short. Will you marry me?”
The rest of the room goes silent and he doesn’t care, not much anyway. He just found out that Hell is real and underneath him, he’s allowed to ask another man to marry him. Doesn’t want to miss his chance now, because life is short and Harrington- Steve is someone he’d like to marry, even if they haven’t had many conversations. (He’s blaming his crush for this, he’s high okay?)
Steve looks like a deer in headlights, wide eyed with his mouth open and much to Eddie’s delight, a very nice blush is making its way up his face.
Minutes go by, and the silence is starting to get to him. He’s about ready to take it back but right as he opens his mouth, Steve is moving. Shifting the chair to face him better and closer, then a hand is sliding under his own and squeezes. His gaze flickers to the now entwined hands before looking at Steve, his face is a beautiful shade of red now.
“Let’s do dinner first?”
His smile is wide, he doesn’t even hear the immediate confusion and surprise from everyone else in the room. His focus is all on Steve and sees a smile bloom, “Hell yeah, beautiful”
~~~~
March 27th, 1987
While Hawkins celebrates a “death” there’s a small group of family and friends in a backyard listening to vows being traded. Smiles, tears and laughter is heard all around.
In front of everyone is Eddie and Steve, both wearing matching suits, sunflowers pinned on their jackets. Holding hands and smiling, eyes staring to water from words of protection and laughter, happiness and love.
Cheers start when the rings are traded and lips pressed together in a kiss to seal the deal.
Maybe someday in the future they can do this officially. For now, they’re happy with this. The matching rings sit on their fingers and a promise to love each other is all they need.
March 27th, 1987, if you ask Eddie Munson, is amazing, his favorite day. The best of the best and a beautiful day. He’ll forever remember it as the day he got to marry Steve Harrington. (And if he cries in their new bedroom a few weeks later when Steve shows him paper work of a name change, well, that’s between him and his husband)
~~~~
I wanted to write something with Eddie asking Steve to marry him. Had to include the date of course lol. I’m not going to explain any specifics on why Hawkins believes Eddie’s dead but it’s fine, they move away anyway. Eddie eventually makes it big with Corroded Coffin and Steve eventually becomes a teacher 🥰

Family video was slow, as it always was on Mondays. Steve’d been stuck on shift by himself, and he passed time by flipping through the same five magazines that have been sitting in the desk drawer since before Robin and him had arrived.
Movies became a-lot less entertaining when you had to watch them 24/7, and you start learning the difference between a good film and a wannabe-camp.
Internally, he winced.
Robin was definitely rubbing off on him. All those days where she sat on the counter beside him, pointing directly at the screen, ranting about how unrealistically the girls are portrayed.
“Whiney and boy-obsessed, Steve!” She yelps. On the screen, Back to The Future is playing, and Marty’s mother is insisting he stay in her room.
He leans forward, onto the counter, and tilts a twizzler towards her. “Pretty sure it’s meant to be hot to people. Like imagining that it’s you she’s saying this shit to.”
“Of course it’s hot! But if it’s my mother then I wouldn’t be hanging around.” She hisses. At the same time Marty runs out of the door.
Instead of an action movie, or romance, he’s got The Parent Trap playing. It’s sweet enough that the occasional parent with a ‘sick’ child wadding behind them doesn’t scream at him for violent or sexual scenes.
The sound isn’t loud enough to disrupt him reading, which he’s thankful for.
The bell rings, and he throws out a, “Welcome to family video, I’m here if you need anything!” Without looking up.
“Harrington!” A familiar voice crows, and he rolls his eyes. Sets his magazine down open on the counter. He eyes Eddie, who has a grin already lining his face.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at school, failing your forth year?” He tuts, no real malice in his voice. Eddie sighs dramatically. “It hurts me that you forget. They let me off the hook! Free graduation baby!”
Steve stands, approaches where the register is, and leans his forearms onto the counter. “And, uh, when was this?”
He gets an unimpressed look. “You were there.”
“Was I?” His voice lilts, and he has to hold back a laugh at Eddie’s furrowed brow.
“You helped me get ready.”
“Does not ring a bell.”
“You talked me down from giving Higgins giving me the finger!”
“Hmm…” Steve hums conspiratorially. “You know, still doesn’t ring a bell.”
“Shithead!” Eddie yelps. A college girl from another aisle, that definitely should be at school, giggles. He sends a little finger wave to her while he speaks. “Munson, you better be glad that it wasn’t a mother.”
“Steve, Stevie, Steven-”
“Not my name.”
“Steven, you remember.” Eddie grins, and the girl starts walking towards them with two tapes in her arms.
“Is this all?” Steve asks with his customer service voice, as he shoos Eddie to the side. The girl smiles sweetly. “Yes, well…Actually I don’t have an account. Don’t you need a number for that?” She asks. Eddie scrunches his nose from the side.
“Yeah, what’s your name?” Steve slides to the create an account, and she spews out her name, and her number. “It already exists.”
“Oh,” Her voice isn’t shocked at all, “Well, how about you keep the digits to yourself? Maybe give me a call?” Eddie backs up, and fake gags out of her view. Steve gives him a glare. “Alright, well, your total is 5.27.”
She hands him the change, lets her fingers brush his before walking out with her discs. As soon as she’s gone, Steve lets his face fall. He rounds on the metalhead.
“Dude!”
Eddie tilts his head, “What’d I do?”
“What if she saw you?”
He sighs, leans onto the counter dramatically. “So I make one little face.”
“Are you going to actually buy anything?” He asks, cutting off the conversation before it just turns into a loop.
“Right, yeah! Where’s the-“ Eddie smirks, eyebrows raised, and rings the service bell before he lifts a hand like he’s using a salt grinder? “-Adult section.”
And that was definitely not salt. His nose scrunches, “Gross dude.”
Eddie shrugs innocently. “We all do it.”
“Robin doesn’t.”
“Robins not a guy.”
He’s about to bring up one of the kids, before pausing.
They’re highschoolers now, he doesn’t know what they do and he frankly doesn’t want to.
“Jonathan?” He suggests.
“Argyle has made a little too many right hand jokes about him for me to believe that.”
“God, whatever,” He sighs, points to the corner, where there’s a bead covered doorway. “Sections over there.”
He gets a salute in response before Eddies practically skipping away.
He’s so fucking weird.
Two people come in by the time he comes back out.
Which means that he was in there for a while.
He’s got three tapes in his hand when he walks back to the countertop, slams them on there. And Steve,
He really tries not to look. Because while some of the films in there are just R-rated, there are still some pornos and he doesn’t really wanna know what Eddie’s into.
But, it’s unfortunately difficult when he’s trying to scan the titles in. Eddies swaying back and forth, hands in pockets as he gets a glance at-
“Rocky Horror?” Dark brown eyes snap to him, and he nods approvingly. “Good choice.”
It doesn’t exactly fit his and Robin’s non-whiney-and-boy-obsessed-women regime, but they both enjoy it. It’s funny enough.
“You’ve- You’ve seen it?” Eddie asks, voice high pitched for a reason he can’t pin point. “Yeah, a couple times.”
“You’re sure you’ve seen this one, and not Rocky wrestler?” Eddie asks again. Steve huffs, “Yes, Janet, Brad, Tim Curry and Rocky.”
A “Huh.” Is muttered as Steve types in the title name to Eddie’s account, and moves onto the next movie. Poor Pretty Eddie, he’d never seen it, and flips it over, reading the description.
“What are you doing?”
Steve’s eyes squint as he nears the end of the paragraph. “Dude this sounds graphic, you seriously watching this with Rocky of all things?”
“I like my variety.” He states, slowly, sounding out every syllable.
Blood Thirsty Butchers is next, and Steve quickly types in the names. “What even are these movies?”
He gets a shrug. “I don’t know, I’ve only seen Rocky. You know,” Eddie smiles, leans over the counter further. “It more fun to watch a new movie with someone.”
Steve hums, “You want Darla’s number? Bet she’d watch it with you.”
“Steven,”
“Not my name!”
“Stephano!”
“Whatever,” He sighs, runs a hand through his coiffed hair. “Sure, I get off at four.”
“Seems a bit early, but whatever. What about work?”
“Ew, dude. Chill out, this is Family Video.”
“Is that why I saw a bunch of pornos back there?”
“Adult section- Just-“ Steve shoves the metalhead lightly off the countertop. “What time do you want to do this?”
An older lady walks in as Eddie talks, “How about five? You buy the pizza, and ring my shit up.”
“Or-“ Steve slides the tapes to him. “-You buy the pizza, I use my employee-free-rental on these.”
“Works for me, it’s a date, Steve.”
He shoos him away as the lady steps into the romcom section, “See you at five, freak.”
Eddie blows a kiss, “Miss you already!”
He shakes his head, grabbing his chair and magazine and dragging them to near the register.
What a weirdo.

Still on a Steve likes Barbie kick and I'm going to keep putting that into the universe.
When Steve was 5 years old, he used to go to the store whenever his parents were in town, where they would buy him toys to make up for the fact that they were never there. It was back when they would still pretend they cared, feigning love between long bouts of absenteeism and moments of his fathers violent temper. He could get any 'boy' toy he wanted. Over the trips, he had gotten baseball stuff, a Fisher Price Farm set, a toy plane, Matchbox and Hot Wheel Cars; honestly, he had any toy a boy could want. But he wanted something else.
He would always pass the pink aisles filled with toys that were supposed to be for girls, and he was enthralled with one toy in particular. Nestled between the baby dolls and the easy bake ovens were pretty Barbie dolls with fantastic outfits and soft brushable hair. And he wanted one so badly. He would always ask for one and every time he was met with harsh words from his father. "Steven, don't be a pansy. Boys don't like Barbies unless they are sissies. Are you a sissy, Steven? Do you want your friends at school to find out?"
Steve always shakes his head, dejected. He then goes and picks out a boy toy, a toy his dad won't be mad at him about. But one day, something changes. One of the nice women who worked at the store, Mrs. Munson, had watched as Steve continuously was shot down by his father . She felt bad for him, so that day, as she checks them out, she slips a Growing Hair Barbie into the bag discretly along with the Lincoln Logs, before handing little Steve the bag, winking kindly at him as she does.
And Steve immediately goes home and runs up to his room, hiding the packaging under his bed before playing with the doll. He loved her hair and dress, and everything about her. She was glamorous and beautiful, everything Steve wanted.
He would sneak her with him everywhere, even slipping her in his backpack when he would go to the playground. Today was one of those days, going to the park with his nanny, as his parents were in Chicago. He would run and hide behind a tree, out of sight from his nanny, where he could play quietly with the doll.
He is so wrapped up in his game that he doesn't notice someone walking up next to them until they sit down on the ground beside them. Steve looks over to see a boy from his school in the grade above him. Panic fills his face as he tries to hide the doll. Even back then, his father instilled shame in him whenever he was doing something that wasn't traditionally masculine.
But boy smiles at him, one tooth missing from where the baby tooth fell out. "Hi, I'm Eddie. Can me and my dragon," he motions to the plastic figure in his hand, "play with you? Your doll looks cool and maybe can be a princess. Or knight, or a knight princess." Eddie starts to ramble.
Steve scrunches up him nose, confused that the other boy isn't making fun of him. "Wait, you wanna play with me and my Barbie, even though I'm a boy?"
"Yea! It gets lonely playing by myself and you looked like you were having fun!"
"Oh." Steve looks down, unsure how to feel. He really wants to play but what if the other boy just is playing a joke on him. "My dad says Barbie is a girls toy."
Eddie laughs. "My dad says that junk too, but my mommy says toys are for everyone, no matter what. We can play with whatever. So can we play, um...I forgot to ask your name?"
Steve can't help but smile at the kind words. "Sure! And I'm Steve. Oh and Barbie is definitely a princess knight and she is going slay your dragon!" He giggles.
The boys spend the rest of the afternoon playing together until his nanny calls for him. On the bench near her, he sees the lady from the store and watches as Eddie leaves with her.
They play again the next few times they are at the playground, always hiding the Barbie from the nanny so he doesn't get in trouble. But Steve loves it, making up adventures for Steve’s Barbie and Eddie’s dragon. Steve thinks Eddie could be his best friend.
One day, though, his parents are actually in town, and they make a show of taking him to go and play instead of the nanny. He doesn't think anything of it. They do this all the time to show other people they care. Steve and Eddie fall into their regular routine, but Mr. Harrington seems far more observant of Steve than the nanny, always acutely aware of Steve's actions so he can meet sure his son does not embarrass him.
He can see Steve's legs sticking out from behind the tree and the legs of another boy. He decides to walk closer to "check on" (read: make sure he isn't hanging out with the wrong kids). Steve does not notice until he is being yanked up by the back of his collar, fear filling his eyes as he looks at Eddie. He drops the doll out of panic.
"Steven Michael Harrington, what the fuck are you playing with?" His voice is low but stern.
"I...I..." Steve begins to stutter, a tear forms in his eye.
"You're not that stupid boy, answer me." His father is still speaking with gridded teeth.
"A Barbie, sir." He whispers.
"Where did you that?" His dad presses
"I...." Steve looks around, doesn't want to get Eddie’s mom in trouble, and is unsure what to say as he stands in front of his father scared.
"I gave it to him. It's mine." Eddie lies before Steve can say anything, watching what is happening, seeing the same fear in Steve’s face that he has felt when his dad has one too many drinks.
Steve goes to speak, but before he can, Mr. Harrington is pulling Steve away, leaving the doll abandoned on the ground. He yells out "Do not talk to my son anymore." Steve tries to protest, but his dad just grips his hand tighter around his wrist, shutting him up.
Eddie goes home with the doll that night, knowing Steve won't be allowed to talk to him anymore. He spends the night crying on his mother's lap, as Steve cries alone in his room over the loss of his first friend and his special doll.
~~
Years passed, and they don't talk, Steve too scare when he was younger to disappoint his dad, and by the time he is old enough to stand up for himself, he thinks iits too late. Things change, the Harrington parents being around less and less, Eddie’s mother passing, and his uncle Wayne taking him in. Steve grows into the all-American boy his father wanted him to be, and Eddie leans more and more into letting his freak flag fly.
But then the upside-down happens, and Steve grows some .ore, and then there was Spring break, and he is running with Eddie’s near lifeless body out of there, barely getting him to the hospital in time. But Eddie recovers, and they grow close again.
Everyone around them can see their mutual crush, but it is Eddie who makes the first move. Nearly 5 months after Vecna, Steve finds a shoe box wrapped in newspaper on his front porch. The note attached reads
"Would you still be my princess-knight? Maybe we can try our play dates again, except maybe we make it a real date?-Eddie"
When Steve opens the box, inside is his original Barbie from all those years ago with a pretty pink rose. Eddie had kept it all this time. He can feel a tear rolling down his cheek. Eddie cared enough to keep her.
It doesn’t take long before Steve is heading to Eddie's, ready to show him how appreciative he is.

STEVE HARRINGTON
>--------------------------------------<
CHARACTER SUMMARY
>--------------------------------------<
Former local jock heart-throb, Steve is a softhearted, tough-headed guy who has faced down the end of the world a few times and survived with little more than a few scars and some head trauma. In that time he's ended up with a handful of kids that he 'babysits' - if it can be called then when he's not actually getting any pay. Steve is a fool when it comes to love and is quick to fall, leaving him often hurt in the matters of the heart. He's definitely a far-cry from the guy who used to hook up with random girls back when he was in high school, he now wants something meaningful.

VERSES
>--------------------------------------<
#REIGNING - Set in canon during s1.
Known as 'King Steve' in his high school, he is a popular jock who has little to complain about. Rich parents, a small group of friends (lackeys) and the respect of most of the school - he's living the high life. This can be set either before or during his time with Nancy.
#BABYSITTER - Set in canon during s2.
Steve has long since lost his crown after abandoning his old friends but it seems it has come with losing the former love of his life, their relationship strained by knowledge of the horrors of the Upside Down. Instead he's become the begrudging charge of the resident nerd kids, having to prepare to face down a new threat from that hellscape. He's a lot less cocky, feeling uncertain of what he's doing with his life as it seems to be changing so fast.
#AHOY - Set in canon during s3.
After failing to get the grades he wanted, Steve is made to find a job and ends up working in the ice-cream parlor of the new mall. His self worth has taken a blow alongside the head trauma he's already experienced and he's struggling. Thankfully he's at least found a companion in his colleague. After being dragged into yet another fight to save the world, he is tortured and drugged, only escaping by the skin of his teeth. Though he acts like he brushes it off, moving forward as best he can, he struggles to cope with the horrors he's seen while living his day to day life.
#MARRED - Set in (mostly)canon during/post s4.
Once again the world may be ending and he's forced to play hero. It's hard enough knowing the kids lives are in his hands but in all this mess he finds himself with some damn confusing feelings for Eddie Munson, a new addition to their group of weirdos who has been dragged into the disaster. Refusing to deal with that, he instead tries to rekindle his lost love with Nancy - not that this works. During this whole mess he gets dragged into the Upside Down and nearly eaten alive, leaving him scarred around his neck and abdomen. They save the world but lose Munson, which hits him harder than he's willing to admit. It feels like a failure on his part, not to mention leaving him with some very confusing feelings to cope with. Throughout it all he retains a brave face, not allowing his friends to see how much he's struggling.
#LEGENDS - Diverts from canon - an AU that can be set anywhere in the timeline.
Steve was bitten by a werewolf when he was young, barely turned thirteen and though his parents had tried to help, it had driven a wedge between them - leaving him to deal with it mostly himself. He's learned a lot over his years despite having no guidance, roaming the wilds of Hawkins freely as their local cryptid. The Hawkins Howler. He longs for connection but doesn't dare tell those he knows about what he is, scared of what they may think.

Steve can’t think straight. He can’t find the answer, every possibility getting lost somewhere between his brain and his tongue. All he can manage to do is look at Munson’s lips, soft and pink and wet, droplets collecting at the edge of his bottom lip. He swallows, blinks, and leans forward without thinking. He expects a fist to the nose, or to fall into empty air as Munson scarpers away. Instead, he finds warm lips against his, eager and greedy. - - - Steve's avoiding Hargrove. Without thinking, he reaches down and slides his fingers over the indent made by the pen. Eddie must have pressed down harder than necessary, leaving a tactile mark as well as the visual one. Steve’s hit by the realisation that Eddie will never write his name again. Never write or draw, or even hold a pen again. Ever. For the first time in two weeks, he stops. He looks around his room, feeling lost, feeling alone and so achingly, horribly empty.

Steve Harrington has two goals this Christmas: 1. Survive working as a Christmas Elf at Starcourt Mall 2. Convince his new coworker that Christmas isn't all bad

Of course, Steve is going to go support Robin when she lands the role of Mustardseed in Hawkins High's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, there's no question about that. He isn't expecting Eddie Munson to be playing Puck, and definitely isn't expecting him to jump off the stage and sit in his lap partway through the show.
nobody rules these streets at night like me • mature, 57k Steddie Big Bang 2023 - art by maikaartwork
Eddie Munson has never stayed in one place for long. When his mom disappears for the last time and his dad goes to jail, he has no other family to turn to. He spends his teenage years moving through the foster system, making friends and then losing them just as quickly. In the end, there’s never any reason to stay. After he runs away from his fifth foster home, he finds his way to Hawkins, Indiana and for the first time, finds a reason to stay.
How to Be a Heartbreaker • mature, 8.7k
Steve has a plethora of methods under his belt for getting his conquests to leave soon after they’re both satisfied. He’s used them all, with varying rates of success. He doesn’t have much experience in getting someone to stay.
Young and Reckless • mature, 41k
Welcome to Lover’s Lake Summer Camp, Summer of ‘86! Steve Harrington knows exactly what to expect when he starts his third summer as a counsellor at Lover's Lake - screaming kids, tiny cabins, mediocre food, and smelling so strongly of sunscreen and campfire smoke that no amount of soap can get rid of it. It's his favourite part of the year, and he can't fucking wait. Until a new counsellor turns up and everything changes.
you don't have to stare, come here, get with it • explicit, 3.4k
Eddie hates his summer job cleaning pools for rich assholes, but he needs the money. When one of those rich assholes turns out to be Steve Harrington – who is apparently a big fan of sunbathing in the nude – Eddie's shitty summer takes a turn for the better.
fever (you set my soul on fire) • explicit, 3.8k
“Shit,” Eddie groans, teeth pressing into his bottom lip. His hips buck up, and his imagination runs away with that, thinking about Steve, balancing over Eddie’s hips, riding him as hard and fast as he can manage, delicious thighs shaking while Eddie thrusts up into him. “So, what’s Eddie Munson doing in a place like this?” Steve asks, wiping a droplet of beer from the corner of those goddamn lips. Eddie rolls his eyes. “That’s a terrible come-on.” “Coming from Mr. Come-Here-Often?” Steve says, a mock deep voice that, apparently, is supposed to be Eddie. “I didn’t fucking say that,” Eddie points out, taking another deep drink. He holds it up, and Steve squints to see what it’s a picture of. “Why have I never seen this?” Eddie asks, and Steve can make out two blue-and-white-clad figures, standing behind the new counter of a just-opened ice cream shop. Oh, shit.
