Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea), family Laridae, order Charadriiformes, breeds in the Artic Circle and the northern coasts of North America, Asia, and Europe, overwinters in Antarctica and idlands of the Southern Ocean
The annual migration routes of these birds may be between 22,000 km (14,000 mi) to 81,600 km (50,700 mi).
May live up to around 30 yrs.
As with most terns, they feed mainly on fish and small marine invertebrates.

Common tern - The Port A Jetty, East Cotter Avenue, Port Aransas, TX, USA
Joshua J. Cotten
Scientific name: Sterna hirundo
Mass: 4.2 oz
Conservation status: Least Concern (Population decreasing)
Class: Aves
Family: Laridae
Genus: Sterna
Kingdom: Animalia
The common tern is a seabird in the family Laridae. This bird has a circumpolar distribution, its four subspecies breeding in temperate and subarctic regions of Europe, Asia and North America. It is strongly migratory, wintering in coastal tropical and subtropical regions.
Common Terns nest on rocky islands, barrier beaches, and saltmarshes and forage over open waters. Terns often gather over warmer waters with high densities of American sand lance (a small fish) in the spring, and tuna that help scare up smaller fish in the fall.

I recently came up with my human loop design so. Figured I'd jump on this!
(Two hats spoiler below of course)
Meet Sterna!
Tumblr media
(I do hope it's okay if they're sitting down, i can doodle another one if needed)
Hello Starbursts~
It's come to my attention that there are a good number of you fine artsy-folks who have- rightfully- come to find me, the ever radiant Loop Instarsandtime, an irresistible muse~ In fact, plenty of you have taken to designing me as a human! (Stardust insists that these count as gajinkas, but I don't know what they're talking about~)
Still, I can't have more than... one. of me running around unchecked, so I propose a little game~
Bring all of your little copycats here, and I'll... well, its a surprise!
(It's a group photo, Stardust, I doubt that counts as sinister intent~)
You have two weeks from today (6/19) to bring them to me, afterwards it is simply too late! I have to cut this off at some point~
See you soon~
(Reblog this post with an image of your human!Loop design or tag your design with #isat constellation, and I'll edit them all into a huge group shot! No AI work allowed, but pretty much anything else goes! Use a transparent background if possible to make my life easier.)

Found this lovely green friend while visiting San Diego - any chance of an ID? I'm not sure they were doing so hot but I didn't want to bother them too much.

It's a figeater! Adult beetles don't live particularly long, so it may have already mated and is at the end of its natural life. And that's okay I'll bet it lived a nice beetle life :)

Pond Island Light, Kennebec River, Phippsburg, Maine. Until 1937, Pond Island hosted a colony of terns, but the growing gull population forced them to clear out. In 1960, when the light became automated, all the buildings, except the tower were removed. In '73 Care of the island was transferred from the Coast Guard to Fish and Wildlife to be re-established as a tern colony. Thanks to the help of National Audubon, tern decoys and calls were deployed, gull nests removed, and finally in '99 the first common tern chick in over 60 years hatched. Then in 2003, Pond Island recorded its first successful breeding pair of endangered roseate terns.
