Common tern - The Port A Jetty, East Cotter Avenue, Port Aransas, TX, USA
Joshua J. Cotten
Scientific name: Sterna hirundo
Mass: 4.2 oz
Conservation status: Least Concern (Population decreasing)
Class: Aves
Family: Laridae
Genus: Sterna
Kingdom: Animalia
The common tern is a seabird in the family Laridae. This bird has a circumpolar distribution, its four subspecies breeding in temperate and subarctic regions of Europe, Asia and North America. It is strongly migratory, wintering in coastal tropical and subtropical regions.
Common Terns nest on rocky islands, barrier beaches, and saltmarshes and forage over open waters. Terns often gather over warmer waters with high densities of American sand lance (a small fish) in the spring, and tuna that help scare up smaller fish in the fall.

some warmups for an SI piece!
[ID: two marker sketches of a common tern in different styles and positions.
The first sketch shows an adult in grays, black and red (for the dorsal feathers, cap marking, and feet & beak respectively). It is about to land, its wings held up as if about to beat down.
The second one is much more abstfact, shown in dark blue, cyan and orange. The tern is held midair as its about to dive down. End description.]

I recently came up with my human loop design so. Figured I'd jump on this!
(Two hats spoiler below of course)
Meet Sterna!
(I do hope it's okay if they're sitting down, i can doodle another one if needed)
Hello Starbursts~
It's come to my attention that there are a good number of you fine artsy-folks who have- rightfully- come to find me, the ever radiant Loop Instarsandtime, an irresistible muse~ In fact, plenty of you have taken to designing me as a human! (Stardust insists that these count as gajinkas, but I don't know what they're talking about~)
Still, I can't have more than... one. of me running around unchecked, so I propose a little game~
Bring all of your little copycats here, and I'll... well, its a surprise!
(It's a group photo, Stardust, I doubt that counts as sinister intent~)
You have two weeks from today (6/19) to bring them to me, afterwards it is simply too late! I have to cut this off at some point~
See you soon~
(Reblog this post with an image of your human!Loop design or tag your design with #isat constellation, and I'll edit them all into a huge group shot! No AI work allowed, but pretty much anything else goes! Use a transparent background if possible to make my life easier.)

Some more pictures from the common terns with their cute chicks. They can be quite noisy birds and it looks like one of the little ones already practices.

Note
Found this lovely green friend while visiting San Diego - any chance of an ID? I'm not sure they were doing so hot but I didn't want to bother them too much.
It's a figeater! Adult beetles don't live particularly long, so it may have already mated and is at the end of its natural life. And that's okay I'll bet it lived a nice beetle life :)
