Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Production Market To Reach USD 2.76 Billion By 2030
Tumblr media
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Production Market Growth & Trends
The global induced pluripotent stem cells production market size is expected to reach USD 2.76 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 9.44% from 2024 to 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. The increase in demand for induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in comparison to Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs) has offered a significant drive to the market. Advantages such as no stem cell-related ethical issues, personalized treatment, and flexibility during cell-based research have created a favorable scenario for market growth. In addition, the prevalence of chronic disorders is also driving the growth of the induced pluripotent stem cells production market, as conditions like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and many more can be treated by utilizing iPSCs-mediated therapy. For example, according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 537 million people are already living with diabetes in 2021.
The rising research activities during COVID-19 pandemic have positively impacted the market. The pandemic fueled research in many fields as the SARS CoV-2 infection resulted in many diseases in the patients. For instance, in April 2021, researchers from USA stated that up to 25% of COVID-19 patients suffered cardiac dysfunction. Through their research article, they demonstrated the pathogenesis via exposure of iPSCs-derived cardiac cells to SARS CoV-2, and similar alterations were confirmed from human autopsy specimens of the patients. Such insights allow the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as drug or therapy development platforms and their utilization in the management of the long-term effects of COVID-19.
Induced pluripotent stem cells are cells that are derived from adult somatic cells and then further reprogrammed to obtain the pluripotency as that of ESCs. These iPSCs are proving to be an ethically uncomplicated alternative for research that involves ESCs. The derivation of the ESCs is associated with the destruction of an embryo at the blastocyte stage, which has led to a maximum number of ethical debates. However, induced pluripotent stem cells have solved the ethical issue over the destruction of human embryos in research by involving only the genetic reprogramming of somatic cells. This has propelled the market growth and resulted in numerous applications including drug discovery, disease modeling, toxicology testing, and many others. For instance, in August 2021, Fate Therapeutics announced the treatment of the first patient with FT819 during clinical trials. FT819 is an engineered CAR-T cell therapy that is derived from iPSCs. Also, the rising focus of the research community on exploring applications of induced pluripotent stem cells in regenerative medicine due to their unique characteristics such as differential potential, self-renewable, immunomodulatory properties, and others; is set to drive the market expansion.

AU fic prompt: Scully is pregnant during IWTB and the arguments with Mulder make her have complications, but she ends up being okay.
Don't Give Up
@today-in-fic
Canon Divergent mid-IWTB
Scully sat in the dimly lit locker room, her thoughts consumed by the challenging day she had just experienced. The procedure on Christian's brain had been both physically and emotionally taxing. She couldn't shake the image of that long syringe piercing the boy's skull and delivering the stem cells, the weight of responsibility pressing heavily on her shoulders. But now, there was an added layer of concern—her pregnancy.
As she meticulously transcribed her notes, Mulder entered the room, breaking the silence that had enveloped her. She glanced up, her exhaustion evident in her eyes.
“People say I went underground.”
Scully sighed softly, “I'm sorry, Mulder.”
Mulder settled onto the bench next to her, a sense of concern etched through his hazel features.
“I had to keep my focus here.”
Mulder's brow furrowed, his gaze fixed on her.
“It's the boy, isn't it?”
She nodded slowly, her voice a hushed admission.
“Yeah.”
Mulder leaned in, his concern deepened. “I thought there was nothing to be done.”
Scully hesitated for a moment, grappling with her emotions. She finally spoke, her voice filled with uncertainty.
“I'm taking a big chance on something. On a radical and extremely painful new procedure.”
Mulder's eyes widened in surprise. Last night, she had vehemently opposed such a procedure.
“Last night you said that wasn't an option.”
Her gaze remained fixed on her notes, avoiding his penetrating stare.
“It wasn't, last night.”
Mulder couldn't hide his curiosity.
“What changed your mind?”
She didn't answer directly. Instead, she rose from her seat and moved away, putting some distance between them.
“When will you know if it's working?”
Scully turned to face him, a sense of determination in her eyes.
“There's a series of these procedures, and we won't know until they're all done.”
Mulder nodded, acknowledging the uncertainty of the situation.
“But that's not what you came to talk about.”
Mulder took a deep breath, knowing he had something important to share.
“There's another woman missing. She's given us something to go on. She and the missing agent swam at the same pool. We found that the agent kept a locker there, we think they were stalked there. Both women wore medical I.D. bracelets, and they both had the same rare blood type - AB negative.”
Scully's mind raced, connecting the dots.
“Organs - harvested for transplant. That's how they were targeted. Donors and recipients need matched types. Someone using that pool knows that.”
Mulder nodded, his expression grim.
“Black market. Somebody filling orders.”
“Well, they have access. Recipients, hospitals.”
Mulder emphasized the urgency of the situation.
“That's your world, Scully. Your knowledge is able to save time, and time is our enemy.”
Scully's voice wavered as she made a difficult decision.
“You can start with the transporters. Call the Richmond D.A.”
Mulder's eyes pleaded with her to stay involved.
“No, no, I need you on this with me.”
But Scully's resolve was unwavering.
“No, no, Mulder.”
Their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills.
“Yeah, you asked me to get involved, Scully. Now I'm asking for you to stay involved.”
She shook her head, her voice tinged with sadness.
“Mulder, you helped them already. You broke the case for them. Why don't you just let the FBI pursue it?”
Mulder couldn't hide his frustration, but he understood the turmoil in her heart.
“We're so close now.”
“And I'm asking you to let it go.”
Their argument reached an impasse, leaving them both emotionally drained.
“It's not that simple”.
“No, it's complicated.”
Their shared history, the years of chasing the unknown, had finally taken its toll on Scully.
“What's that supposed to mean?”
She hesitated, her voice filled with raw honesty.
“Something that I knew would happen, that I've been afraid of, that I haven't had to face until now.”
Mulder pressed her to reveal her fears.
“What? Just say it.”
“I'm a doctor, Mulder. That's not my life anymore.”
The weight of her words hung heavy in the air. Mulder struggled to process what she was telling him.
“I know that.”
“You're not understanding me. I can't look into the darkness with you anymore, Mulder. I cannot stand what it does to you or to me.”
Mulder protested, clinging to his mission.
“I'm fine with it, Scully. I'm actually okay. I'm good.”
Scully's eyes welled with tears as she voiced her deepest concern.
“Yeah, that's what scares me.”
Mulder was at a loss for words, his heart aching with the realization of what they were facing.
“Where else would you have me look if you want me to find these women alive?”
Scully's resolve remained unyielding.
“I'm asking you to look at yourself.”
Mulder's frustration and desperation collided within him.
“Why? I don't think I'm the one who's changed.”
Scully made her final plea.
“We're not FBI anymore, Mulder. We are two people who come home at night, to a home now. I don't want that darkness in my home.”
The room fell silent, the weight of their words hanging in the air.
“Scully, this is who I am. It's who I've always been. This is who I was before I met you. It's what I do, it's everything I know.”
“Write it down. Put it in a book.”
Their hearts ached with the realization that they might be at an irreparable crossroads.
“You're asking me to give up?”
“No. I can't tell you to do that, Mulder. But I can tell you that I won't be coming home.”
Mulder's voice trembled as he tried to hold back tears.
“Scully.”
“Mulder, I've got my own battles to fight.”
Their love, once a beacon of strength, now stood tested by the darkness they had faced together for so long.
“Don't do this”.
“Please don't argue with me.”
“Don't do this now.”
“I don't know what else to do.”
With a heavy heart, Mulder turned away, unable to find the words to change her mind.
“Good luck, then.”
As the door closed behind him, Scully was left alone with the weight of her choices, the uncertainty of the future, and the miracle she carried within her. “You too.”
—---
Scully's mind was consumed with guilt over her pregnancy. She hesitated at the door to Father Joe’s apartment, her thoughts swirling. When Father Joe opened the door, he was greeted by Scully's stern expression. There was an undeniable tension in the air.
“A vision, if ever I had one.”
Scully's voice was firm as she spoke. “May I speak with you?”
He gestured for her to enter, and she reluctantly stepped inside.
“Make yourself comfortable.”
“I won't be staying long.”
Despite her unease, Father Joe remained hospitable.
“Have you come here by yourself?”
“Yes.”
“Sit. Please, I insist.”
Scully, still apprehensive, perched on the edge of the bed. Father Joe reached for his Bible and joined her.
“Now, you came here with a question.”
As their conversation began, an unexpected noise from another room made Scully turn her head.
“We're alone. We can speak in confidence.”
She refocused her attention on him.
“You said something to me the other night in the snow.”
“Yes. I said, don't give up.”
Scully's determination showed in her voice as she sought an explanation.
“I need to know why you said that.”
Father Joe's response was enigmatic.
“I haven't the faintest idea.”
Scully stood up, her frustration evident.
“Were you hoping for a different answer?”
“Do you know anything about me?”
“Other than that you loath me?”
“Do you know what it is that I do?”
“No. I can see you're a woman of faith, but your beliefs differ from your husband's.”
“He's not my husband.”
“Would you care to tell me about yourself?”
“No!”
“Would you consider confessing?”
“I don't think you're…”
“What? In a position to judge? Yet you've judged me, haven't you?”
“You deserve to be judged.”
Father Joe attempted to delve deeper into her thoughts.
“Do you know why we live here? The men who inhabit this wretched place, driven by their monstrous desires. We hate each other and ourselves for our insatiable appetites.”
“That doesn't make it any less sickening.”
Father Joe continued, his voice revealing the torment he carried.
“And where do these appetites, these uncontrollable urges, come from?”
“Not from God!”
“Not from me. I castrated myself when I was 26. And the visions weren't my choice either. Proverbs 25:2.”
Growing increasingly frustrated, Scully stormed out of the room but then turned back to confront him.
“What?!”
"God's glory to conceal a thing, for the honor of kings. To search out a matter."
“Don't you quote scripture to me!”
Their heated exchange continued.
“What are you doing here? What are you afraid of?”
Scully, her emotions overwhelming her, approached him once more.
"Don't give up! What was that for?!”
Father Joe's composure started to crumble as his hands trembled.
“I don't know.”
“I don't believe you!”
“I'm telling you the truth.”
“They were your words!”
Father Joe's eyes met hers, and a knowing look crossed his face.
“Perhaps I saw something you couldn't yet fathom.”
“What do you mean?”
Father Joe's voice grew softer.
“Sometimes, visions reveal more than we understand at the time. Maybe it was about something within you, something you hadn't realized.”
Scully, taken aback, contemplated his words, her guilt about her pregnancy and the argument with Mulder weighing on her.
“I don't believe you!”
“I'm telling you the truth.”
“They were your words!”
“I don't know why I said…”
“You said them to my face!”
Father Joe's composure started to crumble as his hands trembled.
“All I ever wanted was to serve Him. All I've ever wanted was to serve God.”
His visibly shaking hands let go of the Bible, and it fell to the floor.
“You can ask for His pity, but don't expect mine. You can stop the act any time.”
Overwhelmed and trembling, Father Joe fell back onto the bed. The Bible slipped from his trembling hands, landing on the floor with a soft thud.
“Look at me!”
With determination, she grasped his chin. Father Joe, now shaking uncontrollably, collapsed onto the bed.
—-----
Whitney and Mulder arrived at Father Joe's apartment block. Scully was speaking on her cell phone, her hand resting protectively on her not yet discernable abdomen.
“Paramedics have been here now for about seven minutes. He's stabilized. Blood pressure's normal. No, they're loading him in now.”
Mulder approached Scully, concern etched on his face.
“What happened?”
“Thank you.” She ended her phone call and looked at Mulder.
“He had a seizure.”
“Who called you?”
“No-one.”
“Well, what are you doing here?”
Scully hesitated for a moment, her hand instinctively caressing her abdomen under her coat. The movement isn’t lost on Mulder.
Scully doesn't answer.
“We need to talk to Father Joe,” Mulder insisted.
“Well, that's not going to happen.”
Agent Whitney chimes in. “We've got a suspect. A Russian émigré working as an organ transporter.”
“In custody?” Scully’s interest piqued.
“No. The Richmond D.A. questioned him about trafficking in black market human organs this afternoon, but he was released. They had no evidence to hold him. We've got a fairly credible witness who says he swam with the women at the pool.”
“ASAC Whitney?” Agent Drummy called over.
“Excuse me,” Agent Whitney departed.
“What's that got to do with Father Joe?” Scully asked.
“It's the man in his visions, Scully,” Mulder continued.
“Who?”
“The suspect, the man in this photo.”
“Mulder, now you're wasting their time.”
Mulder leaned closer, persistent. “Tell me again what you're doing here.”
“Here's a vision for you. Couple of my guys just had it.” Agent Drummy says to them.
He hands Mulder a photograph of Franz Tomczesyn. The man whose face was scratched by Monica Bannan.
“Who's this?” Mulder asked.
“That's our suspect's employer. An old friend of Father Joe's, we just learned. Known him for over twenty years.”
“Known him how?”
“That's one of his thirty-seven altar boys. Three guesses who he's married to in the state of Massachusetts. Our suspect.”
He hands over a photograph of Janke Dacyshyn, the man with the organ donor bag.
“We got a warrant to search their offices.”
Whitney and Drummy got inside their car and began to pull away.
“Mulder. It's over.,” Scully pleaded
Mulder turns away from her as the SUV begins to pull away. “Hey! Hey!”
“What?” Scully yelled.
Mulder waves to Drummy who stopped the car.
“Hey!”
“Mulder!” Scully called after him.
Mulder got in the back of the car. They sped off, as did the ambulance, and Scully watched, her hand still resting on her belly, her concerns multiplying with each passing moment.
—---
Later, in the hospital corridor, Scully walked toward Mulder, who stood by the stained-glass window at the foot of the stairway. She reached out, gently taking his hand.
“Monica Bannan and Dakota Whitney, they're both gone,” Mulder lamented.
“I heard. I'm sorry.”
“I thought we were making progress, Scully.”
“I know you did, Mulder.”
He withdrew his hand.
“I need to see Father Joe. Show him these photos, these men.”
“You still want to trust him.”
Mulder nods slightly.
“You should know that he's been diagnosed with terminal illness. Advanced-stage lung cancer.”
“I just need to be certain.”
“Then let me talk to him.”
She took the photos from him. They approached Father Joe, who lay in bed with an oxygen cannula.
“I was thinking of you. Had a vision, something you might find interesting. A man speaking a foreign language,” Father Joe said.
“Did he look like this?” Scully inquired.
Scully held up a photo of Janke Dacyshyn and Father Joe put on his glasses.
“Yeah, that's the man. How did you know?”
“We believe he's the one who abducted the FBI agent and the second woman you mentioned, and possibly more. And we think this man was involved.”
She showed the picture of Franz Tomczesyn.
“I don't know him.”
“Are you sure?”
“I'm fairly certain. I don't know him.”
“I'm fairly certain you do, Father Joe, and you've known him since he was a boy.”
Father Joe looked at her and took the picture, suddenly realizing who the man was.
“Oh, no. It can't be true. I can't believe this. He was my connection to the girl. My visions were meant to save her from him. This is God's work. This is God's work.”
He directed the last remark to Mulder, who looked stern.
“Just one more question, Father Joe. Monica Bannan, the FBI agent, the first woman you saw. Is she still alive?” Scully asked.
He rested his head back on the pillow and closed his eyes.
“I feel her. Yes, she's still alive.”
Mulder and Scully exchange a glance and walk away.
“Mulder.”
“The second victim might still be alive. Everyone's given up on her, but I won't.”
“Mulder, you think I don't understand, but I do. This stubbornness of yours, is why I fell in love with you.”
Mulder leaned closer toward her, his expression unreadable. “It's also why we can't be together.”
He took the photos from her and walked away.
Scully’s gaze followed him until he disappeared around the corridor and she bit her lip as she fought an onset of tears.
Inhaling deeply, Scully closed her eyes for a moment, feeling the weight of her emotions. It was a challenging time, and she couldn't help but wonder if her pregnancy hormones were affecting her judgment. Nonetheless, she knew she had to gather herself.
Drawing on the resilience she had honed through their tumultuous journey, Scully straightened her posture, her determination unwavering. Taking one more deep breath, she steeled herself to face what lay ahead as she moved toward the corridor where Christian awaited.
As she advanced down the hall, her keen eyes caught sight of Father Joe in the children's ward, having somehow summoned the strength to leave his hospital bed.
Without hesitation, Scully sprang into action, bursting into the hospital room, surprising both Father Joe and Christian. "Get away from him! Get out of here, you sick bastard!"
Christian looked at Scully, who protectively placed her hand on the boy's arm. "It's okay, Doctor Scully," he reassured her.
Scully took a few deep breaths as she quickly assessed him, her maternal instincts kicking in.
"This boy, he's your patient," Father Joe whispered, more statement than a question.
"Who told you that?" Scully asked, her alarm evident.
"No one."
"What are you doing in this room?" she demanded.
"I've been here," he insisted.
"You've never been here."
"I've been here before," he insisted. "And so have you. Here, you and the boy. This all happened. This all happened before."
Scully was startled, and overwhelmed with emotion, making it difficult to formulate a proper response. She opened her mouth to speak but pushed past Father Joe as he uttered, "You gave up."
Scully paused at the doorway, her colleagues gathering at the door due to the commotion. His words struck a chord within her.
"You can't give up."
She glanced from Father Joe to Christian before making a hasty retreat from the room, leaving behind a sense of uncertainty and a whirlwind of emotions.
Scully made her way back to her shared office, her anxiety building with each passing minute. She had been trying to remain strong, but the pain in her abdomen had started to intensify during the confrontation with Father Joe, and she knew she couldn't wait any longer. Her hand shook slightly as she reached for her phone in her coat pocket.
She scrolled through her contacts until she found Mulder's name. With a deep breath, she pressed the call button and waited, the seconds ticking by like hours.
Mulder's voice came through the phone, sounding concerned even before he knew who was calling. "Scully?"
His worry was evident, and Scully's voice trembled as she replied, "Mulder, I need you to come back to the hospital. Something's wrong."
There was a brief pause, and Scully could hear the rustling of papers on the other end of the line. "What's wrong, Scully? Are you okay?"
Tears welled up in Scully's eyes as she struggled to find the words. "It's the baby, Mulder. I’ve been having abdominal pain, and it’s getting worse."
She could hear the panic in Mulder's voice as he responded, "I'm on my way, Scully. Just hold on. I'll be there as soon as I can."
Scully nodded, even though Mulder couldn't see her. "Hurry, Mulder."
With those words, she ended the call, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that Mulder would move heaven and earth to get back to her, but the fear of the unknown weighed heavily on her. She clutched her belly, silently willing their unborn child to hold on just a little longer until Mulder could be by her side.
Father Joe’s words passed through her mind on repeat as she considered the implications. All she knew was that she couldn’t give up, not on Mulder, not on this baby.
Mulder arrived at the hospital with a sense of urgency that mirrored the flashing lights of the ambulance bay. He parked his car haphazardly and practically sprinted through the sliding doors. Panic gripped his chest as he realized the gravity of the situation.
Approaching the hospital reception desk, he tried to keep his voice steady as he asked the nurse on duty, "I'm looking for Doctor Dana Scully. Can you tell me where she is, she was having abdominal pains?”
The nurse, a kind-faced woman with a badge that read 'Karen,' looked at Mulder with sympathy. Karen's expression softened, and she quickly typed something into her computer. "Mr. Mulder? I understand the urgency. Let me check for you."
Mulder watched anxiously as Karen's fingers danced across the keyboard. After a tense moment, she looked up and said, "Doctor Scully was admitted to the maternity ward on the fourth floor. Room 412."
Relief washed over Mulder, and he offered a quick but heartfelt thank you before darting toward the elevators. He didn't waste any time, knowing that every second counted.
As the elevator doors closed behind him, he couldn't shake the fear that had gripped him since Scully's call. His mind raced with worst-case scenarios, but he pushed them aside, focusing on the determination to be there for Scully and their unborn child.
When the elevator reached the fourth floor, Mulder followed the signs to the maternity ward. Room 412 loomed ahead, and he paused for just a moment to collect himself before knocking gently on the door.
There, he found Scully, pale but determined, lying in the hospital bed with medical equipment surrounding her.
Their eyes locked, and Mulder rushed to her side, taking her hand in his. "I'm here, Scully," he whispered. "We're going to get through this together."
Scully managed a weak smile, her love and relief mirrored in her eyes. With Mulder by her side and their friends supporting them, they faced this new X-File with the same unwavering determination they had always shown in their quest for the truth.
The tension in the hospital room was palpable as Mulder sat beside Scully, their hands tightly clasped. Scully's face was etched with worry, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and hope. They had been waiting anxiously for the doctor to arrive with news about their baby's condition.
Finally, the door swung open, and a weary-looking doctor entered the room. Mulder and Scully both turned their attention toward him, their hearts pounding in anticipation.
The doctor took a deep breath and then delivered the news they had been desperately waiting for. "Doctor Scully, Mr. Mulder. I've reviewed all the test results, and I'm pleased to say that your baby appears to be just fine. There's no sign of any immediate danger to the pregnancy."
Relief flooded over Scully, and tears welled up in her eyes as she squeezed Mulder's hand even tighter. It was a moment they had both feared might never come.
The doctor continued, "The bleeding you experienced was likely due to stress, as you know is not uncommon in this field of work. Pregnancy is undoubtedly a physically demanding experience, and your body's reaction to the stress may have triggered it. We'll keep a close eye on you and the baby for the next few hours, but for now, there's no immediate cause for concern."
Mulder and Scully exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of gratitude and sheer disbelief. It was as though a weight had been lifted from their shoulders, and they could finally breathe again.
"Thank you, Doctor," Scully finally managed to say, her voice trembling with emotion.
The doctor offered a reassuring smile. "You're welcome. Just remember to take it easy, manage your stress as best as you can, and follow our recommendations. We'll be here to support you every step of the way."
As the doctor left the room, Mulder and Scully shared a moment of profound relief and gratitude. The threat to their unborn child had passed, and they could now focus on nurturing the life they had created together.
In the quiet of the hospital room, Mulder sat beside Scully, their fingers entwined. The news that their baby was okay had brought immense relief, but it had also stirred a whirlwind of emotions within Scully. She had kept something hidden deep inside, something she needed to share with Mulder.
After a long silence, she finally found the strength to speak. "Mulder, there's something I need to tell you."
Mulder turned his gaze towards her, concern etched on his face. "Scully, you can tell me anything."
Scully's voice was filled with vulnerability as she began to open up. "When I first found out I was pregnant again, I couldn't help but feel guilty. Guilty for bringing another child into this world after what happened with William. I felt like I failed him, and I was terrified of failing this baby too."
Mulder's expression softened, and he reached out to gently caress Scully's cheek. "Scully, what happened with William was not your fault. You were forced into impossible choices, and you did everything you could to protect him. You're not a failure, and you're not alone in this."
Tears welled up in Scully's eyes as she continued, her voice barely a whisper. "I'm also terrified, Mulder. Terrified that we'll lose this second chance. That the darkness that's always followed us will somehow take this away from us too."
Mulder leaned in, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. "Scully, I've felt that fear too. But we can't let it control us. We've faced the unknown together for so long, and we've survived because we have each other."
Scully nodded, a mixture of tears and relief in her eyes. She knew that Mulder was right, that their journey had taught them to confront their fears and uncertainties head-on.
"We'll take this one step at a time, Scully," Mulder said, his voice filled with determination. "And we'll do it together, just like we always have."
As they held onto each other in that hospital room, Scully felt the weight of guilt and fear begin to lift. She knew that they couldn't erase the past, but they could embrace the present and the precious gift of a second chance at parenthood. Together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead, their love and resilience stronger than any darkness that threatened to engulf them.
