Alright guys, so after an extremely long break from the usual blog post I am back to post one on a topic I’ve been working on for a very long time. That topic being my go to rifle setup. Let’s dive right into this.
All good rifles have to start from a good, solid base. My base happens to be a bcm 14.5” upper and a bcm complete lower that I picked up from Brownells a long long time ago. A lot has changed on the base rifle since then but we will get into that shortly. Once I had the solid base to start my go to rifle build on I had to start thinking about the other things I would need like optics, light, sling, etc. at this point I’m going to fast forward 5 or 6 years to now since there no reason explaining all the old parts I had vs the parts I have today.
So as you can see in the picture above, this is a very busy setup. I wanted something extremely versatile and that could be applied to pretty much any situation. So with that let’s talk about sighting systems. Like I just said, I wanted something versatile so I went with the extremely proven eotech system. Funny thing about that is this is the exact same optic I bought for this rifle years ago when I started this. Going along with the eotech we have the eotech g43 magnifier combo that brownells sells asa set. The Unity Omni mount is basically the only way I can tolerate running a magnifier and the reward of being able to instantly have 3x magnification is extremely satisfying. Along with sighting systems we might as well touch on the laser. I just recently upgraded my holosun ls321 to the Steiner dbal d2. Which so far I am absolutely loving it. While it is on of the heavier units available it definitely is no slouch when it comes to performance.
Next we can talk about basically everything else on the rifle. Starting off with the light, I now have 4 of these because I like them that much. The modlite okw, these are extremely durable and powerful lights. Like I said I have multiple variations of this in 18350 , 18650, rifle, pistol, and helmet mounted and I really really like each of them.
Next up… the can. I just recently picked this up and I’m loving it. It is a griffin armament reece5. So far performance has been awesome, plus I really like the simplicity of their taper mount system. The device I’m using under it is their taper mount 3 prong flash hider which is a pretty damn good device on its own.
Since this is getting long winded I will blast through the remaining items pretty quickly.
Arisaka handstop- love the simplicity
Flatline fiber padded sling - the best in my opinion
B5 sopmod stock- a staple in the industry
And the bcm mlok rail, grip, and the new mk2 charging handle are all awesome.
Overall I think this is an extremely solid setup for what I am looking for in a go to rifle. If you made it this far let me know what you think down below. As always go check out brownells, they are a big supporter of everything I am able to do. Link to them will be down below which helps me keep doing what I’m doing.
Check out the rest of my socials, I don’t have a linktree at the moment since they decided to remove me but you can easily find me on the platforms.

Their robust construction and high-quality optics make them suitable for a variety of outdoor activities. While they are on the expensive side and might be heavy for some users, their performance, especially in terms of image clarity and low light capability, is impressive. Cons - Price: At approximately $1500, they are in the expensive range. - Weight: Weighing 45oz, they might be considered heavy for some users. - Limited Field of View: The high magnification results in a narrower field of view. - Image Shake: Higher magnification can amplify hand movements, potentially requiring a tripod for stability. Best for Quick, Focus-Free Viewing Steiner Predator AF 8×30 Today’s Best Deals View at AmazonThe Steiner Predator AF 8×30 is a mid-high level binocular, priced around $340/£340, and is particularly aimed at the hunting sector. Cons - Price: The high quality comes with a premium price tag. - Weight: Some models might be heavier compared to other binoculars in the same category. Key Features to Look for in Hunting Binoculars When shopping for hunting binoculars, it’s easy to get lost in the jargon. Magnification, objective lens diameter, field of view… it can all seem a bit much. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Let’s simplify it: Magnification Power Think of magnification as your superpower. It brings distant objects closer. For hunting, 8x to 10x magnification is usually the sweet spot. It offers enough zoom to see far but not so much that you can’t keep your target in view, especially with shaky hands in the cold morning air. Objective Lens Diameter The objective lens is the one at the front of the binoculars, farthest from your eyes. Its size determines how much light gets in, which is crucial for early morning or late evening hunts. A larger diameter (measured in millimeters) means brighter images. However, bigger lenses also mean heavier binoculars, so aim for a balance. A 42mm lens is often a good compromise between light gathering and portability. Field of View Field of view is all about how wide an area you can see through your binoculars at a certain distance. It’s especially important when tracking moving animals. A wider field of view makes it easier to follow your target without losing sight of it. Durability and Waterproofing Let’s face it, hunting isn’t a walk in the park. You need binoculars that can withstand a drop, resist water, and not fog up in cold weather. Look for rugged, rubber-armored bodies, waterproof construction, and fog-proof lenses. Weight and Portability You’ll be carrying these binoculars all day, so weight matters. Lightweight models are your friend, but don’t sacrifice optical quality for a few ounces. Find a pair that feels good in your hands and on your neck. Optical Quality and Lens Coatings The heart of any binocular is its optical quality. High-definition (HD) optics, extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, and multi-coated lenses reduce glare, enhance color fidelity, and improve clarity. These features might bump up the price, but the difference in image quality is worth every penny. Types of Hunting Binoculars Not all binoculars are created equal, and when it comes to hunting, the type you choose can make a big difference. Roof Prism vs. Porro Prism In the world of binoculars, there are two main types of prism designs: roof and Porro. Roof prism binoculars are sleek, compact, and easy to handle, making them great for hunters on the move. Porro prism binoculars, on the other hand, tend to be bulkier but offer a wider field of view and generally better depth perception. Both have their merits, so consider what’s more important to you: portability or a slightly richer viewing experience. Compact Binoculars for On-the-Move Hunters If you’re the type who likes to stalk your prey or cover a lot of ground, compact binoculars might be your best bet. They’re light, easy to carry, and quick to whip out at a moment’s notice. Just remember, smaller binoculars usually mean smaller lenses, so you might sacrifice some image quality, especially in low light. Full-Sized Binoculars for Stationary Observation For hunters who prefer to wait in blinds or stands, full-sized binoculars are the way to go. They offer the best image quality, brightest views, and most comfortable eye relief (that’s the distance from the eyepiece lens to your eye, by the way). Yes, they’re heavier, but when you’re sitting still, the extra weight is less of an issue. Understanding Binocular Specifications Alright, let’s decode those cryptic numbers you see on binoculars. You’ll often find them listed as something like “10×42.” The first number (10x) is the magnification power, and the second number (42) is the objective lens diameter in millimeters. Easy, right? Importance of Eye Relief for Hunters with Glasses If you wear glasses, eye relief is a big deal. It’s the distance you can hold the binoculars away from your eyes while still seeing the full field of view. Look for binoculars with longer eye relief (15mm or more) so you can keep your glasses on and still see everything clearly. Choosing the Right Binoculars for Different Hunting Scenarios Hunting environments vary wildly, from dense forests to open plains and rugged mountains. Each setting demands a different approach when selecting binoculars. Binoculars for Various Hunting Environments - Forested Areas: In dense woods, light is limited, and distances are shorter. Look for binoculars with a larger objective lens (42mm or more) to maximize light gathering. A lower magnification (8x) helps with a wider field of view, making it easier to spot game in thick cover. - Open Plains: Here, distance is your challenge. Higher magnification (10x or more) lets you scan vast areas and spot distant game. Just remember, higher magnification can make for a shakier image, so consider a model that’ Read the full article

New toy for the gats - Steiner DBAL D2
So initial impressions - I knew about the problems specific to Steiner units going into this like the prolapsing plussy(tm) possibility or the general fat fuckedness of the D2 specifically, and knowing what to expect has definitely made it a bit easier to settle into The weight is the main and obvious drawback and the remote cable ports work just fine if you aren't gripping and ripping like a moron.
There's still a few things about these I'm not a huge fan of, but mostly just related to the lack of aftermarket There aren't really any alternative mounts for these short of modifying existing ones to fit The availability of spare parts (namely spare lens caps) is practically nonexistent And the fire button on the back, while in an incredibly convenient position, I find rather mushy, no nice tactile click, and it's such a small button with a high guard that it's annoying to press, especially if your fingernails are any less than freshly cut
THAT BEING SAID These are as close to a military FP laser you can get that you can actually take out repair services for and that makes all the difference for me The illuminator seems nice and crisp and has a pretty wide range of focus The fact that I can zero this thing in the daytime using the visible laser which the IR laser is slaved to is a great benefit Not to mention there are bolt-on front sight blades for these lasers to use in place of a typical FSB or folding front sight
tl;dr: Pros:
Powerful af for a civ laser
Good overall form factor
You can actually get customer service for these things
Cons:
fucking heavy lol
lack of alternative rail mounts
self-removing crane ports (if you're dumb)
For frame of reference, an ancient 1990's AIM-1/DLR somehow weighs less than the DBAL D2 lmao
