Many food insecure nations are usually able to switch between staple foods when one becomes too expensive, but the market is making that difficult, according to Mr Vogel. "Especially in parts of Africa, it is about getting food on the table, so consumers are more flexible, so they can substitute rice for corn, tapioca or wheat," he said.

Stefan Vogel, Wollen (Installation), 2023 Matratzen, Möbel, Kabel, Audiospeaker, Monitore, Metall, Plastik, Stoff, Dreck ca. 8 × 8 × 8 m, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf.
"German artist Stefan Vogel uses broken furniture, used mattresses and overturned lamps to depict devastation in the domestic interior. 💥 Above the destruction, two monologues can be heard, mingling like a confused dialogue, symbolising the horror at home: A couple thinks about their life together and whether they should have a child. The question arises of the erasure or alteration of identity through the bonds of domesticity and the effects of family structures."

Welcome to Dorley Hall by Alyson Greaves is out now!
“a story so intimate and psyche-gripping I had to remind myself to breathe” TORREY PETERS
“this wildly original novel is a sly, subversive satire of toxic masculinity wrapped around the heartfelt story of a trans woman fighting to find genuine gender expression” LAYNE FARGO
“a morally complex and deeply humane novel that uses society’s biggest fears about gender to explore fundamental questions about how it affects us all.” RAE STOEVE

Welcome to Dorley Hall by Alyson Greaves

Tumblr media
Mark Vogel is like the older brother Stefan Riley never had, until one day he disappears, and Stefan has to adapt to life without him. But, one year later, when he runs into a girl who looks near-identical to Mark, Stefan becomes obsessed. He discovers that other boys have disappeared, too, dozens over the years, most of them students of the Royal College of Saint Almsworth, many of them troubled or unruly before their disappearance.
What is happening to these boys? Who are the handful of women on campus who bear a striking resemblance to some of those who went missing? And what is the connection to the mysterious Dorley Hall?
Stefan works hard to get into the Royal College for one reason and one reason only: to find out exactly what happened to the women who live at Dorley Hall, and to get it to happen to him, too.
A closeted trans girl attempts to infiltrate a secret underground forced feminisation programme.
Mod opinion: I haven't read this book yet, but I got it in a trans book sale a year ago and I'm excited to check it out.

Big oof (positive)
So I recently started reading Welcome to Dorley Hall.
I have intense and complicated reactions to this book.
I'm only about a quarter of the way in and already everything else I try to say about it turns into an essay-length combination trauma dump and TMI oversharing, which I then delete and replace with "I have intense and complicated reactions to this book."
I also feel weird about outright "recommending" it? For one thing, I'm not done with it, and for another, I have no fucking idea how anyone would react to it who isn't a trans woman wired a fairly specific way. To anyone who is a trans woman wired a fairly specific way: I think you will have intense and complicated reactions to this book.
Anyway, I wanted to say something about it.
And I would give anything to see the timeline where I read this as a teen.

Rabobank head of research Stefan Vogel said higher demand for exports from the countries that remained open to the market could lead to further restrictions on international trade. "What we've seen in the past when a major exporter takes a step like India has, everybody around them has to follow suit, because everybody who wants to buy rice goes to those limited extra export volumes," he said. Immediately after India's ban, Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade requested its rice exporters and processors to strictly adhere to the government's policy of maintaining rice reserves equivalent to at least 5pc of their export volume in the previous six months, according to Reuters. The United Arab Emirates has already placed a four-month ban on re-exports of Indian-origin rice, to ensure enough stocks remain on its domestic market. It typically re-exports the rice it buys from India, Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam to Oman, Benin, Zimbabwe, the US and Somalia.

GRAINS-Wheat heads for fourth weekly loss on improving supply SINGAPORE, June 21 (Reuters) - Chicago wheat futures were headed for a fourth consecutive weekly loss on Friday as northern hemisphere harvests brought new supply into the market and the production outlook improved. Corn and soybean futures steadied after dropping sharply on Thursday when forecasts for rain in U.S. cropping zones eased fears that a heat wave could stress crops. September soft red winter wheat on Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was up 0.5% at $5.89 a bushel at 0443 GMT but down more than 6% from last Friday's close. CBOT July soybeans rose 0.5% to $11.60-3/4 a bushel but were down 1.6% for the week after closing at their lowest in two months on Thursday. July corn was 0.5% higher at $4.42 a bushel and heading for a 1.8% weekly loss. Falling Russian harvest estimates pushed wheat prices to a 10-month high of $7.20 last month but the supply outlook in Russia and other countries such as Romania and Australia has improved, said Stefan Vogel, an analyst at Rabobank in Sydney. "There are a lot of places where the volumes are maybe slightly bigger than the market was expected a few weeks ago," he said, adding that the beginning of harvest was also rippling through the market. "As soon as the combines are rolling and volumes are making their way into the supply chain, that's usually a time that prices will come under pressure." The U.S. winter wheat harvest has seen a relatively quick beginning and a hot spell is expected to keep field work advancing this week. Consultants IKAR this week raised their forecast for Russia's wheat crop to 82 million metric tons from 81.5 million tons, reassuring the market after steep downgrades last month. An increased official forecast for Ukraine's grain crop and an analyst estimate of a record wheat crop in Romania also created expectations of large Black Sea supplies. In Argentina, the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange bumped up its forecast for wheat planting. "We expect that the market will soon find its bottom and that we will see some stabilisation in pricing levels," said Andrew Whitelaw at agricultural consultants Episode 3.
