Post the fic summary for a fic you haven't written/published yet. It can be hypothetical or something you really plan on releasing...
This is a snippet from a plot where Charles is a salesman at a Ferrari dealership and Max wants to buy a new car 👀
“You’re the first one I’m showing her.”
This time, he speaks as if introducing a bride to her mother and brothers, and his voice carries a hint of reverence that he doesn’t bother to hide. It’s fascination, the name.
“She’s not mine, but I confess I might be a little jealous of this one.” The sentence is accompanied by a smile that forms a dimple on the left, and before he can hold back, he adds, “I think only someone special deserves to drive her.”
Max Verstappen turns his face toward him, his eyes gleaming with something that Charles can’t quite identify, just like the tone from earlier. The blonde doesn’t respond immediately; instead, he runs his hand across the steering wheel again, his fingers securing themselves on the paddle shifter in shades of gray. The blonde secures the control in place with such ease that it makes Charles feel warm, and teases in a low voice, “Maybe I’m that person?”
Charles feels his face heat up but decides to play along. “There’s only one way to find out,” he says, moving like a clever cat and adjusting his seatbelt before casting an expectant look toward Max Verstappen.
The blonde calmly adjusts his seatbelt, licking his lips before reaching for the ignition button on the steering wheel. The engine roars to life, filling the space with a powerful sound that echoes around them, and both of them smile. Max Verstappen, for the first time, does so more openly as he hears the sound of the V12, revealing the beautiful crescents forming in his eyes — a detail that Charles, inexplicably, wishes to reach. Charles smiles too, not just for the engine’s sound, but for the awareness of the moment, feeling capable, if only for an instant, of forgetting everything except the man beside him.

How Do F1 Cars Work?: Power, Transmit, Suspend
Alright part 2 everyone. Let's go.
1.Power Units
You have probably heard lots of yammering about power unit components before. Things like 'they took on too many and now have a grid penalty' are common to hear. But what is the power unit, and what does that mean?
So the power unit refers to the engine system that helps power the car. The modern F1 car is a hybrid, a mix between a typical Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Energy Recover Systems (ERS). The modern F1 ICE is a 1.6 liter V6 turbocharged engine and can rev up to 15,000 RPM. It uses gasoline and generates a majority of the power. I've explained how it works in an older post, but briefly it compresses air and fuel and ignites it to create combustion which generates energy. The turbocharger is a part of the ICE that helps condense air more, in turn forcing the engine to create more energy.
The ERS has two components. The first is Motor Generator Unit-Kinetic (MGU-K), which recovers energy from braking, stores it in the battery (which stores energy from the two units), and can be used as a boost to power. The second is Motor Generator Unit- Heat (MGU-H). This unit recovers heat energy from the turbocharger and converts it to electrical energy. It can either charge the battery directly or assist the ICE.
When teams get in trouble taking too many power units it essentially means they have replaced something like the MGU-H too many times. There is a cap for how many times you can replace a power unit component, but with the addition of more races every year the FIA is under pressure to increase this limit. Almost every single car takes the penalty at some point.
2. Transmission
The transmission is the semi-automatic gear box inside of F1 cars, which for them is 8-speed. It is located at the rear of the car and connects to the power unit. This is a part of the car that is famous for having issues, and often when a drivers car retires it is due to a gear box failure. With paddle shifters located under the steering wheel, drivers can change the gear in which they are driving. Different gears effect the traction, grip, fuel economy, and speed of the car and are used strategically throughout the race. Part of the transmission is the differential. The differential distributes power between the rear wheels when cornering, allowing the inside tire to rotate slower than the outside tire. The final majorly important part of the transmission is the clutch. In F1 the clutch, which is a device that connects the engine and transmission to the car is automated and controlled by electronics. It is usually used when starting the race or leaving the pit lane.
Grip levels, cornering speeds, and straight-line speeds all play a crucial role in gear ratio calculations. The teams have to find the perfect balance between acceleration, top speed, and adaptability. The team’s engineers use advanced simulations and data analysis to calculate the optimal ratios for each gear. They also take into account factors like tire wear and fuel consumption to fine-tune their calculations. All of this information can be gathered from electronic data gatherers inside of the car, running simulations, and also the drivers reporting themselves. Its why radio communication is so important in F1. This decision can make or break a race, and we have seen drivers lose due to an incorrect gear decision.
3. Suspension
The suspension system works to keep the tires in contact with the road and helps absorb the shocks F1 cars experience. This is created through a variety of springs, shock absorbers, sway bars, etc. Without the suspension, the chassis would be experiencing the full extent of the shaking and pressure, which would do damage to the car and be very painful for the driver. Anytime you see a driver shaking like crazy in the car, it usually means there is something off with the suspension. Suspension also allows the force of the bumps and the kinetic energy to be stored by a spring, which is then compressed, absorbing the energy transferred by that bump in the road and allowing all four tires to grip the road. The biggest difference between street car suspension and F1 suspension is that in an F1 car each tire is independently sprung, which means that they move on their own, useful around corners.
In F1 cars they have a pushrod or pullrod suspension. These systems transfer pressure from the wheels to the suspension dampers and springs. In a push-rod system, the rocker arms are placed at the highest point in the car. As such, the rod is under pressure as it transfers compression forces upwards into the rocker arms. In a pull-rod system however, the rocker arms are located between the upper and lower control arms, at the center of the car This means every time it hits a bump or curb, the wheel pulls on the spring which causes the pull-rod to go up and outwards from the chassis. Both are regularly used suspension types.
Teams regularly change how their suspension is functioning, and it is by far one of the most tweaked systems on the car. Truly, a weak suspension can make any car one of the slowest cars on the grid. So next time you hear a. driver complain about how slow they are on the straights, or how much their back hurts, it usually means their suspension is not where it should be.
That's all for this post, next one should be about braking, the various electronics/sensors, cooling systems, and wrap up of how everything works together.
Cheers,
-B

why the fuck don't automatic gearbox cars just have like paddle shifters. manufacturers seem like they're trying to figure out how to modernize and streamline automatic gearboxes even more and it's leading to some stupid looking shifters in weird spots or like straight up digital ones on screens (stupid) (bad) when they could literally just add like paddles or buttons to the steering wheel and have the most intuitive and easy method of shifting. like making it even easier than an automatic already is

Arcade Games
Centipede (1981) –
For the next part of my research I had to look into some arcade games. The first one I had a look into was centipede. From what I found out, the main goal is to shoot and defeat waves of insects including the centipede, spiders and other creatures while avoiding their attacks. What I found to be unqiue with this game is that it uses a trackball as its controller which allows for players to control the movement and aim by rolling the ball. I think the trackball added a more fluid and precise way to control your character’s movement and shooting. It allowed for more specific directional movements and responsiveness compared to a traditional joystick in my opinion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
^ Gameplay video!
Road Rash (1991) –
Next I had a look into Road Rash. I found that your aim is to race motorcycles against opponents while avoiding obstacles all while using punches, kicks and weapons to slow down other racers to ensure victory. The game had a few cool mechanics such as leaning to adjust how fast you could be taking corners which I think added some skill to the gameplay. Overall I think its a pretty okay looking game but I dont think it would be something I would find myself playing very often as what I've seen from gameplay it appears to get quite repetitive in terms of "enenies" and track layouts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
Pong (1972) –
Moving on from this I took a look into Pong. Your main objective is to bounce a ball back and forth between two paddles while trying to score points by getting the ball past your opponent's paddle. In terms of the games unique control input, it used rotary paddles as its controller, where players turned a dial to move their paddle up and down on the screen. I think for its time this was a very unique way of approaching the control inputs over traditional joystick inputs. In terms of the games requirements I think the game is pretty easy to understand which makes it accessible and suitable for most ages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
Daytona USA (1993) –
Lastly I had a look at Daytona USA. In this game youre racing Nascars around circuits with the main objective to be winning. In arcades I found the game arcade cabinets made use of a steering wheel, pedals and a gear shifter which created an immersive racing experience. In terms of accessibility requirements I found that players would obviously need to be able to physically interact with the steering wheel and pedals which limits people who may suffer from disabilities. For me personally I do love these style of games, even if the game itself isnt all too great its just such a fun and engaging experience to hop on one of these arcade machines with a friend and race eachother hard!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
Conclusion: Overall these are some really cool games. I find in terms of accessability the simpler the games control input is the wider the audience you can provide it to.

Revving Through Time: The Evolution of Grand Prix Cars and Their Unchanging Spirit
The transformation of Grand Prix cars since the early days of automobile racing in the late 19th century has been remarkable. While the fundamental dynamics of these vehicles have remained relatively stable, significant advancements have emerged in areas such as aerodynamics, tire technology, electronics, and the incorporation of innovative materials.
The steering mechanisms in Grand Prix cars have seen noteworthy progress too. When Mercedes-Benz launched the W196 in 1954, it limited the instrument cluster to three gauges to help drivers maintain focus. By the early '90s, however, a Formula 1 steering wheel was still relatively simple, featuring a round design with minimal buttons for essential functions.
With the introduction of advanced electronic systems in the 1990s, the game began to change rapidly. Instead of overcrowding the dashboard, controls were integrated into the steering wheel, where drivers could manage indicator lights and dials with ease. This shift allowed drivers like Nigel Mansell to change gears without needing to release their grip on the wheel.
The complexities didn't stop there, as the evolution continued with innovations like semi-automatic gearboxes. These enhancements made gear shifting smoother and more timed, significantly elevating the driver’s experience on the track. The removal of the clutch pedal for a fully automatic hydraulic clutch marked a new chapter in the relationship between driver and machine.
In tandem with these updates, features such as engine mapping and traction control were developed, necessitating additional buttons and switches. These innovations provided drivers with the means to adjust their car’s settings while racing, essentially allowing for on-the-fly fine-tuning to optimize performance.
Looking back to 1898, we see how much gear shifting has changed. The De Dion-Bouton tricycle, ridden to fourth place by Jean-Marie Corre, didn't even feature a gearbox. The motor would stop once the vehicle halted, compelling the rider to start pedaling again to reignite the engine, showcasing how basic yet functional early racing technology was.
Modern racing contrasts sharply with that historical simplicity, thanks to the advent of automatic transmissions and paddle shifters. Today’s drivers can adjust their gear ratios in milliseconds, making missed shifts a matter of the past, yet stories from events like the 1921 French Grand Prix remind us of the challenges that once defined the sport.
Tumblr media
The journey of Grand Prix cars encapsulates a story of continuous improvement — blending human skill with technology to push the boundaries of speed and precision. As we witness the fusion of innovation and tradition, we celebrate both the past and future of this exhilarating sport.
If you’re excited about the future of automotive technology and how it shapes racing, stay tuned for more updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes racing car stories that capture the spirit of motorsport!

The Versatility and Appeal of a 14 Inch Steering Wheel
The steering wheel is one of the most essential components of any vehicle, serving as the primary interface between the driver and the car. Over the years, steering wheels have evolved in size, shape, and functionality, catering to various driving styles and preferences. Among the various sizes available, the 14 inch steering wheel has gained popularity for its balance of control, comfort, and aesthetics. This article explores the benefits of a 14 inch steering wheel and why it might be the right choice for your vehicle.
Enhanced Control and Responsiveness
One of the primary reasons drivers opt for a 14 inch steering wheel is the enhanced control it provides. The smaller diameter compared to standard 15-inch or larger wheels allows for quicker steering inputs, which can be particularly advantageous in performance driving scenarios. Whether you're navigating tight corners on a winding road or making quick lane changes in traffic, a 14-inch steering wheel enables more precise and responsive handling.
This increased responsiveness is especially appreciated by those who drive sports cars or vehicles designed for spirited driving. The compact size allows the driver to make more significant steering adjustments with less movement, resulting in a more direct and engaging driving experience. For drivers who prioritize agility and feedback, a 14-inch steering wheel can make a noticeable difference in how the car feels on the road.
Improved Comfort and Ergonomics
Comfort is a crucial factor in any driving experience, and the 14-inch steering wheel excels in this regard as well. Its smaller size can lead to a more ergonomic driving position, reducing the strain on the driver's arms and shoulders. This can be particularly beneficial during long drives, where maintaining a comfortable posture is essential for reducing fatigue.
For drivers with smaller hands or shorter arms, a 14-inch steering wheel can offer a more natural and comfortable grip. The reduced diameter means that less reach is required, making it easier to maintain control without overextending the arms. This ergonomic advantage is not only important for comfort but also for safety, as it ensures the driver can maintain a secure grip on the wheel at all times.
Aesthetic Appeal and Customization Options
In addition to its functional benefits, a 14-inch steering wheel can also enhance the visual appeal of a vehicle's interior. Many drivers choose this size because it offers a sportier, more modern look compared to larger, more traditional steering wheels. The compact design can give the interior a cleaner, more streamlined appearance, particularly in vehicles with a minimalist or performance-oriented aesthetic.
Customization is another area where the 14-inch steering wheel shines. Many aftermarket options are available, allowing drivers to choose from a variety of materials, colors, and designs to match their vehicle's interior or personal style. Whether you prefer the luxurious feel of leather, the retro charm of wood, or the high-tech look of carbon fiber, there is a 14-inch steering wheel that can complement your vehicle perfectly.
Additionally, some 14-inch steering wheels come with customizable elements such as stitching colors, center horn buttons, and trim finishes, allowing for further personalization. This level of customization makes the 14-inch steering wheel not just a functional component, but a statement piece that reflects the driver's personality and taste.
Practical Considerations
While a 14-inch steering wheel offers many advantages, there are a few practical considerations to keep in mind. First, it’s essential to ensure that the steering wheel is compatible with your vehicle's steering column and any integrated controls, such as airbags, audio controls, or paddle shifters. Some vehicles may require an adapter or modification to install an aftermarket 14-inch steering wheel properly.
Another consideration is visibility. A smaller steering wheel might slightly obscure your view of the dashboard instruments, especially in vehicles with a more upright seating position or a low-mounted steering wheel. It’s important to test the wheel in your vehicle to ensure that it doesn’t impede your ability to see critical information like speed, fuel levels, and warning lights.
Conclusion
The 14-inch steering wheel is a versatile choice that offers a unique blend of control, comfort, and style. Whether you’re looking to enhance the performance of your sports car, improve the ergonomics of your daily driver, or simply update the look of your vehicle's interior, a 14-inch steering wheel can deliver on all fronts
