Okay but consider by the time the odysseus is baby girling himself during suffering, it's been very well established that he is the distraction/talk their way out of trouble friend. So eurylochus who has probably been putting up with this nonsense since they were children was going no no this is 100% normal just ignore it. While the crew (who was just random subjects yes?) Was going what the fuck what the fuck

i don't think you want anything to do with me anymore so i can just vent the texts i want to send to you here
#i am sorry#truly genuinely#ive been trying to justify it to myself that we weren't technically together and you said go kiss other people ill still be here meet your#needs in the way you want#but i think it was#yesterday#this guy flirted with me and i flirted back but then suddenly this wave of disgust and self loathing hit me#like what am i even doing#how could i have done that#you were sitting there thinking we're okay you thought we were still together and im just in a bad mood going thru one of those depressive#episodes you were so understanding when you shouldn't have been because if i say im in love with you i should be there for you every step#of the way.#but you go through so much shit alone and im never there for you or atleast not there for you a lot of times and then i blame you for#liking your bestfriends more like it's so stupid obviously love should be reliable stable#and we were something na. we were everything except the label#i should have told you the moment i started feeling empty and dissatisfied again#but just. this isn't an excuse but like i didn't want to hurt you by bringing up this same fight for the one thousandth time#we agreed that you're not in the position to give more and i agreed to be okay with it and i really was.#but i can't help myself i want to give you everything i hate that feeling that i need to be less love less WANT less. mujhse nahi ho pata#i wasn't lying or pretending to be okay with it i was TRYING my best to be okay with it because i love you and this was the only way to#not lose you forever#now i just want to move on fr and be just friends with you. i can't lose you as a person but i don't know how to make this up to you#i am physically incapable of being in this situationship i want a relationship or a friendship i can't with this in between#which is what i told you in jan. i remember my chest actually feeling heavy with fear bc i was so scared of hurting you and getting hurt#again. jokes on me my worst fears came true all the progress we made by taking space is lost#i don't know if you really deleted my playlist. i tried to listen to more songs from it but they're so. lovely. talking about epic grand#love. which we have. but it's like waving a candy in front of a kid and snatching it away it hurts too much to have all the feelings and#none of the relationship. now that ive talked to some people in the romantic sense i get it#you were my best love my most perfect love there are no flaws there's nothing anyone else can do that can be equal or more to what you did#but idk it isn't meant to be maybe there's no future

SORRY I MEANT TO FOLLOW UP EARLIER but I got caught up in talking about The One And Only Thing I've ever added to Jo's backstory and gotten invested in so I lost track of time 😭BUT NO YEAH GOING THROUGH THE LIST WAS A 10/10 EXPERIENCE... I just really enjoy your commentary and seeing your takeaways so I don't need anything In-Depth to have a good time, even just finding out what your faves are is pretty neat; as a guide I definitely think it sells the works while setting realistic expectations overall :] On That Note would love to hear your thoughts on the movie!
LMAO YOU'RE GOOD i wasn't expecting a follow up anyhow so it's alright :]
and im glad the list was enjoyable. i suppose LMAO AGAIN i tried not to go too much into things so my thoughts are relatively sparse (because rest assured i have PLENTY of notes on everything i've seen but i didn't want the thing to be 100 pages long (╯▽╰ ) ) but as long as it gets the job done then that's fine with me:)
OH BUTTHE MOVIE YAYAYA I WATCHED THE CORRECT ONE THIS TIME LMAOOO IT WAS EPIC definitely enjoyed it A LOT and was a really great way to end the series !! again i love the sound design and track and i esp loved the music that played when the team was working out how to sneak into the house of representatives (i've noticed that bitches LOVE acoustic guitars in this series and While Unexpected it works SOOOO good)
the whole Handcuff Bit with inoue still gets me like My Brother In Christ How Long Have You Worked Here BUT I ALSO GET IT. AND ALSO WHEN HE WENT TO ARREST OGATA AND OF COURSE DIDN'T HAVE ANY CUFFS... GIRL I DIED FR...
anyway 11/10 movie SOOO glad you directed me to it LMAO

#until we meet again#to think I very likely would never have watched this if it wasn't for between us#I didn't plan to up until halfway through the first episode of between us#but then I needed to look up some context and got curious#and I rewatched bu ep1 again after finishing uwma ep5 and god so many things hit so much differently with all the added context#I wish it was physically possible to watch these episodes faster#I have no idea how people waited for these episodes week after week after week back then#I would have gone insane#why do I have to be bound by the laws of nature#I want to savour every second but also make time move faster so I can watch it all in one go#started watching yesterday and am about halfway through now and very much in love with this show 🥺😭#my god the layers of this show#the plot is starting to thicken even further#I'm eating up every little crumb#it's nice to see teamwin embedded in the story and not just in their supercut#especially since there are so many small moments that weren't in there#I'm living for the squad's friendship#I love how savage pharm can be with the most innocent expression on his face (yes this is about him epically burning alex)#I love how ready team is to throw hands for pharm to get the creep to back off#del is a beautiful angel#and I also love the two cooking club girls#sin is really cute but I also can never stop staring at his hair wondering if it's real or not#sorn is a lot more likeable than kinn's crazy ex (hopefully it'll stay that way 🙈)#now I kinda want somebody to pull a tankhun and smack alex over the head with a tray every time he overstays his non-existent welcome#'if you make him sad I'mma steal him from you' - dude he rejected you like three times already#really like the music in this show too#and inkorn constantly make my heart ache 😭#they could have run these two stories parallel to each other and only brought in that scene from ep.1-1 much later as a twist with thorns#but I preferred getting stabbed immediately and only then having the gaps of the past filled in as well as getting healed in the present#bit scared of possible angst yet to come but I can take it; I'm still not over how good this show is so far 😭

i cannot wait to read the ben winona reconciliation in burn bright 😁
Tumblr media
#okay i’m realizing this maaaaaaay not happen in burn bright and there might be more waiting assuming he’ll have multiple books#mine#cobalt empire series#but this post is also making me realize how much beef ben has to resolve with various family members omg???#i think it’s realistic to expect that ben and winona’s friendship will be restored in ben’s books#because that feels like a distance that’s HIS fault. like she never wanted to drift from him but his own issues led to their separation#and therefore we need his pov for the resolution#but tbh ben and xander is a mixed bag. we still don’t totally get why there is so much tension between them so it could go either way#but god i hope we don’t have to wait that fucking long#like if it isn’t in ben’s books then they better have some plan for the rest of the kid’s books to start releasing alongside the cobalt empi#and then charlie and ben there is definitely a LOT of animosity on both sides but imo this is mostly charlie’s problem#he is a big bully to ben and ben’s treatment towards charlie is simply reactionary#this isn’t necessarily set in stone though bc idk if ben and charlie could realistically live together with this much turmoil between them#like it makes sense to me that we need to see charlie’s perspective of this and he will need to be the one to take the reins#in order for there to be a resolution. but will they really wait this long? unless maybe charlie’s books are right after and it gets split#anyway. CANT WAIT TO FINALLY SEE BEN AND WINONA’S FRIENDSHIP FIRSTHAND#I HOPE IT ISNT RESOLVED AT THE LAST MINUTE SO WE GET REAL BFFS CONTENT#BOY GIRL BEST FRIENDS ARE EVERYTHING TO ME!! especially when there’s a zero chance of romance#and i really hope ben easton and xander become an epic friendship trio

The Frenzy (pt. 1)
Azriel x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Azriel and Reader accept the mating bond.
Warnings: smut, NSFW, 18+, p in v, oral (m and f receiving), praise, language, shadow play, usual mating bond shenanigans, this might get a little crazy idk yet
Word count: 1.8k
a/n: this fic will be multiple parts. All of them will be smutty, as Az and his new mate will be exploring their new bond.
Enjoy!
The glass plate slid across the wooden table, the sound absurdly loud in the otherwise quiet dining room.
"Here," you murmured to the beautiful male sitting across from you. "Eat every last bit of it."
Azriel swallowed, and you found yourself staring at the way his Adam's apple bobbed with the movement. "Are you-" he stammered, blinking slowly. "Are you sure about this? You know what this means?"
You giggled as you leaned forward to pick up a piece of bread. You made sure to lean forward far enough so that your cleavage would be on full display for him. "I have never been more sure of anything in my life. And yes, you silly bat, I know what this means," you said as you raised the bread to his luscious lips.
You and Azriel had become friends nearly seventy years ago when you came to the Night Court to help Rhys with some court matters. The friendship had started off slow, usually with the two of you sitting in silence. He would read his spy reports and you would read your epic fantasy novels. He had always teased you for it, not understanding your love for those things when you lived in a world full of magic and mythical creatures.
That teasing had turned into an easy friendship, and it did not take long for romantic feelings to bloom. At the time, you had thought something would become of it. That was until Amarantha came and Rhys was taken away from them.
You were with Az while he screamed at the stars for his lost friend. You had held him during his nightmares and bandaged him up after fights and battles. You had kissed his beautiful, scarred hands when he despaired over them, over the pain and bloodshed they had caused.
The trials of life had overshadowed the feelings of love, but you had accepted that. Being Azriel's closest friend was better than not having him at all.
That was until six months ago when the bond snapped into place. When it happened, the two of you just stared at each other. Azriel had fled, of course, as he was not a male who faced his problems head-on. You had stared at him in silence as he flew away, trying to fight the tears that threatened to spill down your cheeks.
A few days later, Azriel approached you, apologizing for his behavior. "I got scared," he said. "I don't want to fuck this up. I don't want to hurt you. You mean too much to me."
You had taken his face into your hands, pulling it down so his lips were almost touching yours. "You're a horrible spymaster if you're that oblivious to the feelings I have for you."
That started months of Az courting you, bringing you flowers, taking you on dates. He did not have much experience with healthy relationships, and he had insisted on doing it right.
But tonight.. tonight was the night you were ready to accept the bond. To accept him. You had taken him to your private residence on the outskirts of Velaris. It was far away from everyone and everything else, especially your family and friends and their prying eyes and ears.
Now, you found yourself staring at the most beautiful male you had ever seen in your long life. Your mate.
"Are you going to eat, or am I going to have to force-feed you?" you asked him, raising a brow.
His eyes darkened, and he lowered his eyes, noting how close your fingers were to his lips. He said nothing as he opened his mouth to take a bite.
You watched in silence as he ate the whole thing from your hand. When he was done, you traced your index finger across his lips to wipe away any crumbs. "Good boy," you purred as you ran your hand down his face to trace his jaw.
Whatever control Azriel had been holding onto snapped. Faster than you could move, he winnowed into shadow and reappeared right next to you. In a swift movement, he lifted you up into his strong arms, holding you close. Your breasts were pressed against his chest, and your legs were wrapped tightly around his waist.
You let out a soft moan at the feeling of his hard cock pressed against your center. "Already hard for me, shadowsinger? We're just getting started," you teased as he carried you to the bedroom.
He let out a growl as he threw you onto the bed. He leaned down, tucking in his wings, and you felt the ghost of this breath against your lips. "I get hard every time I look at you." He laid a soft kiss on your lips before pulling away. "You are the most beautiful person I have ever met, and I thank the Mother every day for bringing you into my life."
His hazel eyes were so full of love and adoration that it took your breath away. You reached a hand up, tangling your fingers in his soft curls. "I love you, Azriel." Your voice was breathless as your need for him ran through your veins.
He kissed you then. Gone was the gentle and tender male from before. This kiss was full of passion and dominance, and it lit a fire in your bones that send a rush of heat to your throbbing pussy. "Please, Az," you beg. "No teasing right now."
Azriel wrapped his lips around your tongue and sucked, grazing his teeth along the tender flesh. "I know, love." He pulled away just enough to raise a finger to his siphon. "Teasing will come later."
He tapped the stone, and both of your clothes disappeared in a flash of cobalt. The feeling of his naked body against yours was dizzying in the best way. You ran your hands over him, trying desperately to memorize every bump and scar as if this was the last time you were going to touch him.
He kissed his way down your chest, cupping your breasts to raise a nipple to his lips. He flicked his tongue out, and you moaned a the feeling. He continued his torturous path down and down until he made it to your dripping pussy.
You raised up on your elbows, looking down at him. "I said no teasing." You tried to close your legs to stop him, but his shadows wrapped themselves around them, holding you open.
He kissed the inside of each thigh before hovering over your slit. Your breath caught at the sight of him between your legs. A dark part of you wanted to show it to Feyre so she could paint it for you.
"I have to get you ready for me, princess," he says, his voice low and sexy as hell. "Plus, I've wanted to taste this pretty cunt for years now."
He licked a stripe up your center, and your vision went white. He circled his tongue around your clit and the world around you fractured and fell together again. You buried your hands in his dark locks, grinding your hips against his face. "Yes, Az. Yes, yes, yes."
"You taste so fucking good," he groaned against your pussy. "Better than I ever imagined."
You were beyond words, unable to think as he took you apart with his tongue. You let out a sinful moan as he thrust in a finger. You started to feel the pressure of your orgasm starting to build in your lower belly. You weakly pulled him away, although you very much wanted him to stay between your thighs for much longer.
"I want to cum on your cock," you whispered, pulling his wet face up to yours. He kissed you savagely hard, and you moaned at the taste of yourself on his lips.
His shadows released their hold on you, and he nudged your legs farther apart as he settled between them. Your eyes fluttered shut as you felt him brush against your tender flesh. With one hand, he aligned himself with your entrance. With the other, he gripped your hand in his own, placing it above your head. "Eyes on me, love." You locked eyes with him, meeting his lust-blown gaze with your own. "I love you," he murmured and pushed himself in.
You screamed at the feeling of his cock filling you, stretching you. He worked his way in with slow thrusts, letting you adjust to his size.
I guess they weren't lying about wingspan, you thought to yourself smugly.
With a final thrust, he seated himself into the hilt, his hips flush with yours. "Move, Az," you plead as you scrape your nails across his broad shoulders.
With a groan of pleasure, he began to fuck you. It started out passionate, with slow and deep thrusts that had your head thrown back. You wrapped your legs around his waist, meeting his thrusts with your own.
He leaned to kiss your neck. "Say it," he murmured against your sweat-slick skin.
You knew what he meant. "You're mine."
He pulled out and slammed in hard. The movement caused your hand to slip and brush against the arch of his beautiful wing. He groaned, biting your shoulder.
"You're mine," you say again.
He placed his forehead against yours as he said, "And I am yours." His thrusts became harder and faster, and you could hear the headboard banging against the wall.
"Fuck, you feel so good. So tight around my cock."
His filthy words caused you to clench around him and he roared, his thrusts so wild and unchecked that you struggled to keep your legs wrapped around him.
Suddenly, you felt that pull in your chest, that wonderful bond that connected you to him. It was pulling at your heart, reaching out for his. It was golden, laced with shadows and starlight. It was beautiful and perfect, better than anything else in the world.
He was your friend through trials, your lover through the dangers of this world. He was yours and you were his.
You felt that pressure begin to build again, and you pull him in for a kiss. "Cum with me, mate," you say against his lips.
Azriel slammed into the hilt and let out a roar that rattled the windows in the bedroom. His shadows wrapped around the two of you, placing you in a shadowy cocoon, away from the world. Your back arched as your climax slammed into your body, and you screamed as you rode out your waves of pleasure. He kept fucking you, filling you up with his cum, claiming you.
For a few moments, the two of you stared at each other, soft smiles on your lips. He was still buried deep inside of you, and he made no move to pull out. That bond glowed between you, and he brought his face down to kiss you softly. "My mate," he murmured. "My perfect mate."
You giggled as you nipped at his lower lip, causing him to groan. Your breath hitched as you felt him harden again inside of you. His eyes filled with a primal desire that caused you to moan softly.
"Again," you commanded, already needing him.
The frenzy had begun.

Ao no Exorcist is a Shonen series written by a woman and it shows
Since the latest chapter, I've been thinking about how several usual Shonen tropes are written rather differently under Kato-sensei's pen. No judgement or anything, it's just cool to observe. Some examples :
1) Rin's mentor is a woman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) Rin's secret, despite being the MC, was revealed in ch13 to the entire cast, meanwhile Shiemi, The Main Girl, who was introduced to be so helpless is only starting to be explained.
Tumblr media
3) Also, the Mysterious plot-relevant Shonen Parent is actually the twins' mother. (Of course Shiro is super plot-relevant too, but Satan is still angsting over Yuri and she's a huge part of the reason why he's the big bad)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) Rin also changed his view about his future throughout the story: from dropping out of school, passing by hoping to become the Order's Paladin (probably to cope with Shiro's death and also to antagonize Arthur), to finally showing way more interest and potential in the (less epic and heroic in appearance) field of talismanic cooking.
Tumblr media
5) When it comes to arcs, mental illness is a valid reason to build a character arc around...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6) And so is making an arc about girls being "cursed" to basically "get married and have children before they hit 30, the age where their beauty fade thus they become useless" :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7) ANE is a story about women becoming traitors to protect their loved ones, like Mamushi
Tumblr media
or becoming overwhelmed because men toyed with their feelings like Tamamo
Tumblr media
8) Older women can be absolute badasses like Shiemi's grandma
Tumblr media
or Lucy.
Tumblr media
9) Complicated mother-daughter relationship and girl friendships are given as much focus as complicated father-son relationships and sweet bro friendships (like Bon and his dad during the Kyoto arc, as well as the complicated but deep bond between the Kyoto Trio)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
10) And one of my favorites: full time single dad, asking for help to do the job as well as he can and finding his true purpose in life by doing so :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmm and now that I think about it, the only other Shonen series written by a woman I've been as invested in is Kuroshitsuji, by Yana Toboso, and similar examples can be found in it too, namely:
1) If Ciel ever finally admits needing a mentor, his aunt Frances will probably play that role
Tumblr media
2) Girls can be super strong & skilled (Elizabeth, Mey Rin) and clever (Sieglinde)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3) (one part of) the Big Bad is a woman (Queen Victoria)
Tumblr media
4) maybe Ciel's entire revenge stems from a conflict between Queen Victoria and Ciel's maternal grandmother, Claudia.
Tumblr media
5) the Undertaker has been a continuously freaking pain in the ass because he probably fell in love with that same maternal grandmother and couldn't mourn properly
Tumblr media
TL;DR we love our boys and their spectacular growth and development under women's pens a.k.a shonen series written by ladies are hella fun to read. :D

Randomly kissing bsf! Matt/ Chris
── ୨୧ ! a small blurb - kissing your best friend
        𝒄𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐 x reader
The sun had set hours ago, casting the room in a cozy, dim light from the lamp on Chris's desk. The sounds of a video game drifted through the air, a familiar backdrop to the countless nights Y/N had spent at Chris's place. His fingers moved deftly over the keyboard, eyes fixed on the screen, a determined look etched on his face.
Y/N lay on Chris's bed, her phone in hand as she mindlessly scrolled through social media. She glanced up occasionally, watching him with a mix of affection and longing. They had been best friends for years, sharing everything from their deepest secrets to the silliest jokes. But lately, her feelings had shifted, growing into something more profound and more complicated.
She sighed softly, her heart aching with unspoken words. She loved him, and it terrified her. Every time she considered telling him, a voice in her head reminded her of the risk. What if he didn’t feel the same way? What if she ruined their friendship? The thought was unbearable.
Chris's laughter pulled her from her thoughts.
"You should have seen that, Y/N! It was epic!" He exclaimed, turning briefly to flash her a wide grin.
She smiled back, her heart fluttering at the sight of his happiness.
"I bet it was." She replied, though she had no idea what had just happened in the game.
Minutes turned into hours, and Y/N felt the weight of her emotions growing heavier. She couldn’t keep hiding her feelings forever. She had to do something, anything, to let him know. The thought of never knowing his true feelings was worse than the fear of rejection.
Gathering her courage, Y/N took a deep breath and sat up, her heart pounding in her chest. She swung her legs off the bed and stood up, feeling the soft carpet under her feet. She walked over to Chris, who was still engrossed in his game, and hesitated for a moment.
"Chris?" She called softly, her voice trembling slightly.
He paused the game and turned to her, his eyes filled with concern.
"Hey, what's up? You okay?" His voice sounded so soft and worried.
Without a word, she took a step closer, her hands reaching out to cup his face. Chris's eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t pull away. Instead, he searched her eyes, trying to understand what was happening.
"Y/N, what-" He began, but she silenced him by leaning in and pressing her lips to his.
For a moment, the world stood still. Then it started moving again.
The kiss was soft and tentative at first, their lips barely touching as if testing the waters. Y/N's heart pounded in her chest, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within her. She pressed closer, her hands sliding up to tangle in his hair, feeling the soft strands between her fingers.
Chris's initial shock melted away as he moved his chair back from the desk, the wheels gliding over the carpet. He reached up, gently pulling off his headphones and letting them drop to the floor with a soft thud, not caring about the game or the noise at all. His hands found her waist again, pulling her closer until she was straddling his lap.
Chris's hands moved from her waist to her back, pulling her even closer. The warmth of his body seeped into hers, and she shivered at the sensation. Their lips moved together in a slow, deliberate dance, exploring and savoring each moment.
The kiss deepened, their mouths opening to allow their tongues to meet, tentatively at first, then more boldly. Y/N felt a jolt of electricity shoot through her as their tongues touched, sliding against each other in a sensual rhythm. Her breathing grew heavier, her senses overwhelmed by the taste of him, a mix of mint and something uniquely Chris. She could feel his breath against her skin, hot and urgent, matching her own escalating desire.
Chris's hands roamed up her back, then down again, finding their way under her shirt to rest on the small of her back. His touch was gentle but possessive, his fingers pressing into her skin as if he wanted to memorize every inch of her. He angled his head, deepening the kiss further, and she felt his teeth lightly grazing her lower lip, sending a shiver down her spine.
Y/N's hands moved from his hair to his face, cupping his cheeks as she poured all her love and longing into the kiss. She could feel the stubble he hadn't done in days on his jaw, rough against her palms, a stark contrast to the softness of his lips.
Their kiss became more fervent, their tongues dueling and exploring. Chris's hands slid down to her hips, gripping them firmly as he pulled her even closer. She could feel the hard planes of his body against her, the heat between them growing more intense. Her heart raced, and she felt a thrilling mixture of nervousness and excitement.
He broke the kiss momentarily, resting his forehead against hers, both of them panting for breath.
"Angel..." He whispered, his voice rough with emotion. "I've wanted to do that for so long."
She blinked, her now wide eyes looking up at his blue ones.
"Really?"
"Yeah, really. I love you, Y/N. I've loved you for a long time." He nodded, a soft smile playing on his lips.
Her heart soared at his words, the weight of her fears lifting.
"I love you too, Chris." She confessed, her voice barely more than a whisper. "So fucking much... I was so scared."
He pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her as if he never wanted to let go.
"I was too. I was so afraid of ruining our friendship." He admitted, his voice muffled against her hair. "But now that I know you feel the same, I can't believe I waited this long."
They stood there for a while, wrapped in each other's arms, the world outside fading away. It was just the two of them, and the love they had both kept hidden for so long.
Chris pulled back slightly, his hands resting on her thighs. He looked into her eyes, his gaze filled with warmth and affection.
"I hope this is not a dream." He laughed slightly, squeezing her covered skin softly between his fingers.
"It isn't, I promise." She whispered, smiling widely.
He leaned in to kiss her again, this time slower and more deliberate, savoring the moment.

translation: "my chemical romance interview. "for us, the live stage is the only place where we can be ourselves."
The songs are like a collection of rock anthems from all over the world, past and present, and it sets the hearts of listeners ablaze.
Who is the emo band that rocked the Summer Sonic stage?
My Chemical Romance, from New Jersey, who just released their major debut album "THREE CHEERS FOR SWEET REVENGE" in July, came to Japan for the first time at Summer Sonic 04. MCR's music is called "screamo" because of their friendship with their friends, including THE USED, and their style, and it contains the street/garage sensibility unique to the generation that went through American punk in recent years… but if you listen to it with a calm ear, you can see that although the vocals are "screamo style," the songs have a beautiful structure and tearful melodies that are related to British heavy metal, and they also feature beautiful guitar solos. In other words, MCR is a band that plays heavy metal at the street level… That's why they must have been so welcomed right from the start in Japan, a country that has a strong tradition of heavy metal music (probably) - their first performance in Japan was a big success.
45 minutes after the end of the thunderous "Summer Sonic" stage
We caught up with the two excited guitarists!
I've never been to a show like that before! I'll never forget this experience.
--Now Frank Iero (FI): This isn't real.
How was the live show you just finished?
FI: Seriously! I've never done a show like that before. It was a memorable moment in my life. I'll never forget it!
--You seem very excited. What was so amazing about it?
Ray Toro: No, not "What". WTF! I mean, they were so welcoming! I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction at all. It felt like a hometown show. Oh, what can I say… ahhhh… anyway, it feels great!-- (Laughs)
Was the positive reaction because the new york was great? Especially the first single "I'm Not Okay" it's really exciting… It's a great song, and the song structure is well-crafted, building up from the intro, and the solo is uplifting too. Did you feel any magic when you made it?
FI: Well, let me tell you something. This song is something that you can't really call "written".
Really? Is that so?
FI: That's true. The song itself only has four chords, right? Except for the solo, it's all four. So at first, I thought it would be a boring song. But when we got together in the studio and Ray was playing those four chords over and over… Gerald (Way/vocals) started singing. The other members were silent. I closed my eyes and listened carefully. Then I realized it was an incredibly beautiful song. I felt it was worth completing. So I tried to change it up with the chorus. The root remained four.
---The guitar solo in this song creates a harmony with the guitar, creating a grandeur that is reminiscent of Queen. How did this come about?
FI: That solo was all Ray!
RT: Of course we were totally inspired by Queen! We were all saying, "Let's have a big guitar solo. Nobody does that anymore!" So I layered the guitars on it and made it as epic as possible. Also, when we were writing the song originally, we talked about making it as production-heavy as possible in the studio… Another thing I did consciously was to think of all the '80s pop and '70s bands I liked. I thought, "What would they do to make a song that's really epic…?" That's also where the two-second piano in the middle of the song came from. It doesn't really mean anything, but it's a bit like a soundtrack.
In terms of age, he was still very much alive.
FI: To tell you the truth, that second part is from the live album "CHEAP TRICK AT BUDOKAN" (1978) [laughs] I really wanted to include it. To begin with, even though some people have performed it live, I've never heard it performed in a studio album. I tried to include that as well and create the biggest anthem I could think of.
Q: Not just "I'm Not Okay," but all of MCR's songs…The composition is designed to make the listeners excited. They are all uplifting and dramatic. Is this something you do consciously?
FI: I'm totally aware of it.
RT: Yes. You can hear it in the song, but I change parts one after another. For example, We never repeat the same parts twice, and as the song progresses, new elements are added. We want it to feel like it's building from one thing to the next. Every member of the band contributes to that. The drums, the vocals, the melodies…everything helps the song to go higher and higher.
FI: Especially the new album, "It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's a Deathwish" crescendos all the way through. It just gets stronger and stronger. It all comes together in a spectacular finale. The whole band sings together for an anthemic ending. Because I like it! Our styles are completely different, maybe that mismatch is a good thing?
MCR's music tends to be dramatic. Is that due to the influence of the music you've listened to up until now?
RT: I grew up listening to heavy metal, like Ozzy Osbourne. I was obsessed with guitar heroes. I like bands that feature guitar players such as the late Randy Rhoads (g/Ozzy Osbourne) and Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix… In other words, Randy is the one who combined heavy metal with classical music, but his guitar playing I think he is the person who has had the biggest influence on my style. It's a bit old-fashioned, but it has a melody. And it's timeless. Melody.
FI: Richie Havens. My first woodstock. He was the opening act for the concert. He took me to an acoustic I just played it with one guitar, like a solo. There wasn't much, just sitting on the stool. He played very melodic and rhythmic guitar. But it's a completely unique style that can't be imitated. He had tiles… Such a great performer. I've never seen him before! I've seen Richie on stage about 10 times now, and I'm blown away every time. He's one of the reasons I don't stop playing guitar. I also love Greg Ginn (guitar/Black Flag) and Thurston Moore (vocals, guitar/Sonic Youth). In other words, I like dirty and emotional guitar more than intellectual style.
——————Hmm. You two have completely different tastes…
FI: Well, we are completely different types of guitarists, but maybe that mismatch is a good thing.
--You mentioned a lot of artists, but listening to your album I can sense a strong influence from heavy metal. But you also listen to a lot of different music from the '70s and '80s, right?
RT: Well, you can't just listen to one type of music, you know? There's so much good music out there. We can't just pretend not to notice it! All of us in the band try to listen to as much as we can and want to absorb as much as we can from all kinds of music.
FI: What we heard was an influence in some way.
FI: I like to use a Marshall JCM900 connected to a SUNN cabinet, and an Epiphone Zak Wylde model Les Paul as the only guitar. I turn up the bass all the way (laughs). Treble is about mid-range. I add gain here and there. But I like to keep it sounding like a real guitar. Not a "buzzing" sound with too much gain, but more of a solid sound.
RT: Yes! And we both try to only use effects when absolutely necessary, and usually plug them straight into the amp. Oh, but we do use wah pedals. Personally, I'd love to see the wah come back!
--I see. So with Frank on the bass and Ray raising the middle, it feels like you've managed to balance the band sound well?
FI&RT: Exactly!
FI: That's how I make it clear that there are two guitars. It's better to have a difference where you can hear each guitar part and it doesn't sound too cluttered.
――――So, let's talk about your playing, not just the guitar sound.
RT: I've been in the middle of it all. But the best thing to do is come to a show and see for yourself! I think there have been times when people thought it was Frank and it was me, and vice versa. We've influenced each other so we have some similarities.
---So you're influenced by each other's playing?
RT: Yeah. At least I got it from Frank.
I learned to play dirty. Not just clean, but more emotional. Instead of being super technical and perfect, I gave myself a little more leeway and tried to avoid feedback and pick-squeezing.
Frank is especially good at pick slides. He likes to make noise out of the guitar, rather than a pretty sound.
He's really good at bringing that out. Making noise, not just playing, is something I'm still learning.
FI: I'm the opposite, I'm learning to play clean, to keep things under control, but still let out emotion when necessary.
RT: A classic example of what you're talking about is "The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You." Frank has a really great part here. After the second chorus, it gets really quiet.
"THREE CHEERS FOR SWEET REVENGE" Warner Music Japan [CD] WPCR-11883 Sensual vocal melodies and emotional guitars, as heard on the 1st single.Their popularity is on the rise thanks to the explosive emotion of their vocals. This is the band's second album and their major label debut. Ray's strengths are in his guitar playing, which always lifts the listener up. While talking about the existing screamo sound, such as the "screamo" part, a new sense of flavoring with the essence of gothic and metal shines. And it's the same with everyday experiences! Everything that comes out of it naturally comes out in the work, and the more I shut out certain types of music or certain experiences, the less fertilizer I have. The goal is the stage. Keep playing to the limit. From what I saw on stage a while ago, the live equipment was, you both used similar things. How do you differentiate between the sounds?
RT: I'm more into distortion. I play a lot of riffs and generally like to emphasize the mid-range.
My model was the crunch guitar sound of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" (1986).
FI: On the other hand, I only use distortion to a natural degree.
Can you tell me the specific equipment names?
RT: The amps are Marshall "JCM2000" and "1960".
Cabinet. The guitar was bought by my brother for Christmas 10 years ago.
It's a very easy one to make, but the sound is great!
I also use an Epiphone Les Paul.
036 GuitarBreakers Vol.8
He said it was a good example of how the differences between the two of them are well expressed.
Can you name any?
FI: You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us
In Prison, I guess?
RT: You're right!
FI: You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us
"In Prison" is huge! The first two verses are
It's rhythmic and dirty, and then…
Ray's guitar hero-like, epic solo begins (laughs). And it has a light rhythm. And then there's "To The End" too.
RT: Yes. In some ways, I play more technically than Frank, but "To the End" has a great guitar solo, it's fast, and it's got some rhythmic, dirty parts. But I think you can hear the difference in our playing styles on every song to some extent.
---By the way, on the album, which is left and which is right?
Are you playing the channel?
RT: Well, in the verses, I mostly play on the left.
Ray is on the left. And Frank is on the right in the chorus.
Frank really blossoms in this scene. It's totally different from his previous style.
FI: Mmhmm!
---Finally, could you tell us about your future goals regarding guitar and songwriting?
FI: For now, I'd like to be able to turn the parts I've written for the next album into proper songs.
Also, we have a clear goal as a band.
But I'll keep it a secret until I achieve it (lol).
RT: For me personally, I just want to keep improving.
FI: Me too!
RT: We both love playing guitar.
That's what life is all about, so I want to keep improving both in technique and melody.
FI: For us, it was a live show that lasted less than two hours. I think that the only chance I have is to be myself, to experience a pure and spiritual moment. So my goal is to continue to play all the way to the end. There is a joy that cannot be expressed in words. I don't think you can understand it unless you have experienced it!
My Chemical Playing - A magnificent world created with guitar
The key to My Chemical Romance's songs is the twin guitars. When the two guitars intertwine, sometimes intensely and sometimes elegantly, it gives the listener a great sense of exhilaration.
Ray was crazy about guitar heroes like Randy Rhoads and Joe Satriani, while Frank loves Greg Ginn and Thurston Moore. They come from completely different backgrounds, but as Ray says, "When we get together, we don't know why, but a special atmosphere is born," which is the characteristic of the My Chemical Romance sound. In fact, Alba
If you check out his playing, you can hear many good examples of two-guitar ensemble. One of the best is the backing for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)." As mentioned in the interview, the bass in this song is a repeat of four chords (D → Bm Em → A), but it is amazing how the performance is not at all simple. Due to space limitations, I will not post an example.
"I'm Not Okay" style guitar solo sheet music.
I'm sorry I can't introduce it, but I definitely want you to check out the ensemble in the A-melody. So, I'll introduce the solo below. This performance was inspired by Queen and was meant to be grand. The harmonies are great, but the chord progression is deliberately E/G#, even though E would have been fine in the flow. This is one of the reasons why it feels so grand.
Tumblr media
In the harmonies from bars 1 to 8, you want to be aware of the speed at which you raise the pitch of the choking, and the speed and depth of the vibrato.
The first half of bar 12 means "play five notes in two beats."

The Iliad: Funny Moments
The year was 850-750 BCE. No phones or underwear in sight. Pants were for the uncivilized only. Unibrows were attractive. And then, one day, Homer decides to write the first Greek Mythology Fanfiction ever, called "Troy Story".
Here is a list of moments from the Iliad which I personally consider to be quite hilarious:
1. Early on in Book 2, before the enormous list of Greek fighters and ships:
Agamemnon tries to motivate/test the army by claiming that he's given up and they're going home. This backfires, as a stampede for the ships ensues.
In response, Athena comes down and gives Odysseus a pep talk. He promptly and unceremoniously takes Agamemnon's scepter out of his hands and runs around brow-beating and occasionally actually beating men who were turning from the fight. It all comes to a head when he takes the scepter and beats the crap out of the Argives' resident disfigured hunchback who was doing nothing but making jokes at the Argive leaders' expense. In fact, the narrative itself stops and mentions that the scene was so hilarious, the soldiers in-story were laughing raucously.
Within Agamemnon's speech, his roundabout method of explaining how badly the Greeks outnumber the Trojans: let's say they have a truce, and each side takes a census, and each group of ten Greek soldiers gets one (male) resident of Troy to pour their wine. "There would be many tens of men lacking a pourer of wine."
2. At one point early in the story Paris steps out among the Trojan soldiers, described as looking like a god, and dares any Greek soldier to come up and face him in battle. Menelaus steps forward to answer the call—and Paris promptly flees back behind his soldiers.
3.Menelaus beating Paris up with his bare hands, while the latter still has his sword. The dramatic way in which it's written makes it a tad more serious, until you remember that Menelaus is choking Paris with the strap of his own hat.
4. Throughout the book, the Greeks continuously throw spears at Hector, but Apollo just deflects them into his charioteer instead, before Hector just picks up another random guy off the battlefield. This happens numerous times throughout the book that it's almost a running gag.
5. The Greeks send an embassy to beg Achilles to come join the fighting again. At first he receives them in friendship, but when he's heard them out, he has Patroclus start passive-aggressively preparing a bed for the only member of the embassy he's invited to spend the night, to signal to the others it's time for them to leave. Thus proving that "it was so nice to see you, but wow, look at the time, we should be getting to bed!" is a tactic Older Than Dirt.
6. When Hera seduces Zeus to distract him, he describes how attractive she is by comparing her with some of the other women he's slept with. It takes about 20 lines in the original Greek.
7. During the battle between the men and gods, Artemis squares up with Hera after her brother decides against fighting Poseidon. You'd think Artemis, the epic huntress and receiver of human sacrifice she is, armed with a powerful bow and fitting the Action Girl trope to a tee would utterly wreck the seemingly frilly, stuck up, less capable Hera. Hera instead chastises Artemis for being a brat biting off way more than she can chew, gives her a verbal tongue lashing before snatching Artemis's bow away before she can get a shot off to give her a lashing with that. Artemis gets wailed on so badly she literally is sent running away crying home to her daddy Zeus.
8. One tangent mentions Hades making a grand entrance at Pylos, only to be immediately shot with one of Heracles' arrows, forcing him to abandon the fight and flee to Olympus to heal. Later, Poseidon makes an earthquake so strong Hades jumps out of his chair in fear that the Underworld will be exposed due to the quake.
9. Early on in the epic, King Priam calls to Helen to explain to him who is leading the Greek army - Agamemnon, Odysseus, Menelaus, etc - because Priam doesn't know who they are. The Greeks have been at war with his kingdom for nine years before this point. One would imagine who had such a role would be at the forefront of his thoughts or that he would at least bother to remember their names, especially since a Pre-Iliad episode had Odysseus and Menelaus before him arguing that Helen be returned.
10. After a long discussion of their ancestries, Glaucus and Diomedes shake hands and exchange armor as a pledge of Sacred Hospitality. The narrator notes that Glaucus got ripped off, because his armor was worth over ten times as much.
11. A wounded Sarpedon thinks he's about to die and begins giving Hector a Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie speech. Hector, who he'd been arguing with several verses back, runs right past him without answering.
12. The standard heroic epithets being used at incongruous times. Godlike Paris hiding from Menelaus, godlike and enduring Odysseus running away while Diomedes yells at him to come back, Menelaus being called "beloved of Ares" while Ares is trying to get him killed, glorious Ajax the Lesser taking a spill face-first into ox dung...
13. Menelaus is shot and wounded. Agamemnon immediately begins mourning his brother and gets through a whole speech before Menelaus can get a word in edgewise to explain that he's still alive.

I genuinely still wish people would understand that while myths aren't absolute truths and shouldn't be read as literal, there is a balance. That it doesn't suddenly erase their relevance and importance as the allegory of domains and cultic practice/history.
Examples are Athene being born from the head of Zeus, where thoughts, intelligence, and wisdom are formed and pop into existence, her domains. Hermes intended for his mother and himself to finally join the Olympians instead of dwelling solely in caves, defining the transition of worship they went through as nature & liminal deities and the new system springing up from the land they were already worshipped in, not to mention the mythologized start of friendship between Hermes and Apollon in Arcadia.
Aphrodite traveled across the sea fully formed as she was already a goddess from Cyprus first before being adopted by the Greeks as one of their own. Apollon taking over Delphi as the new oracular deity is a symbolic story about his integration into the pantheon. The same thing explains how Apollon is treated in the epic The Iliad with more respect than say, Artemis or Ares who deal with the humiliation of being beaten up by Hera and Athene respectively by the storyteller because they were worshipped for longer by far.
The many myths of Maia and Hermes taking care of and protecting infants with their domains as nurses and gods that foster children. The anger of Hera in many myths symbolizes her domain over women and marriage and the respect they deserve because of how important and relevant it is in worship and cult practices.

Being the Son of Calliope, headcanons…
Tumblr media
PJO x Male Reader (No romantic pairing)
Warnings: None…
Summary: You’re the son of the goddesss of epic poetry and eloquence and One of the Nine Muses…
(A/n: I know I was meant to work on other stuff but I got distracted.)
(Song is unrelated to the story but it felt Muses coded so…)
——
You were the only half-blood at camp related to one of the Muses, specifically Calliope, the Goddesss of Epic Poetry and Eloquence.
When you had gotten to camp you used to stay in Cabin 11, even though you’d been claimed, there was no cabin for you. So you ended up bunking with Travis Stoll.
But after the war with the titans and Percy’s demands to Zeus to the gods, a cabin dedicated to the Nine Muses had been built.
You being made the counsler… not that there were any other options…
The cabin was great tho, it was decorated with statues and carvings of the muses and their symbols. There were paintings hung of their famous demigods too such as Orpheus, Hyacinthus and Linus
The cabin had a big book case with novels, plays, comedies, tradgedies, poetry. A soundproof dance studio, a spundproof music room with a bunch of instruments, a sky window to study the stars.
Basically everything associated with the Muses.
——
If you had a nickel for everytime someone had tried to pick you by saying ”you were their muse” or that ”you had inspired” the poem, song or novel they wrote… you’d be richer than Hades.
You were particullarly popular amongst the Apollo cabin who seemed to think you were some kind of key to overcome creative blocks. Will Solace, their counselor, needed to keep them in check since they all seemed interested in you in one way or the other.
Athena’s and Hephaestus’s cabins were also drawn to you for your creativety.
——
You would however end up being paired with the Apollo cabin to lead the campfire sing-alongs, you usually end up with a solo song telling the dramatic story of some greek hero.
Imagine something like ”The Gosphel Truth” from ”Hercules”, with the Apollo cabin acting as you back up singers.
——
As for your powers, you were far from the strongest of demigods, but you were by no means weak.
You had a natrual talent for the arts, singing, dancing, poetry, instruments, etc…
As the son of the goddess of Eloquence you could cast minor short lasting curses on people that would effect their speaking, that could for example cause them to only speak in rhymes and limericks or make them unable to finish long sentences before drifting off.
Your swordfighting style would be noted by the other campers to be quite different, while they fought normally with their swords, Percy described your style more as a ”VERY deadly and sharp dance”.
Being related to the muses you also had an aura that could induce inspiration and creativity in someone (so maybe the Apollo cabin was on to something with their interest in you).
Though that power worked both ways as you could also curse someone with creative block.
——
Unlike most demigods, you’re mother showed up quite often to advice you whenever you had a problem… and she didn’t come alone.
Let’s say you’re in your cabin and you’re sad after having an argument with a friend.
Well… then all the 9 statues of the Muses in the cabin come to life and start singing a pop-soul number about why friendship is important and you should make up with your friend.
It’s was quite terrifying the first few times it happened but you get used to it after a while.
Being one of the Muse’s son is pretty much like being all of their son.
(A/n 2: Sorry, this is shorter than i usually write and is more so a collection of small headcanons for a Son of Calliope!Reader than a full on fic.)

Orla's Non-Bat Comic Recs.
Hello folks, in light of the 'all published comics are BAD' wave that has been swept everywhere recently I would like to share a collection of comics that are good actually and are generally isolated (you don't need a spreadsheet to read them).
1.) Impulse (1995)
Why: This is about a neurodiverse coded teenage refugee from the future who cannot live with his blood family in the 20th century due to circumstances that are beyond his control. It is about learning to adapt to a world that doesn't make sense, and learning to love it too. As time goes on Bart learns how to love and he discovers who he is and what is important to him really. All the while some of the most chaotic things happen that you may ever see in a comic (Bart tricks the whole school into getting into a brawl and drives a car off a cliff). Primary themes: Found family (for real), loss, immigration coding, neurodiversity, foster homes, friendship, self discovery, school. Trigger warnings: child abuse, ableism, ptsd, gangs and gun violence (a shocking amount) mental illness. Available in Trade Paperback: Partially. Reckless Youth - collects Bart's first appearances from The Flash plus issues #1-#6 in Impulse. Flash/Impulse: Runs in the Family - collects Impulse #1-#12 plus supplementary issues from The Flash. Mercury Falling - Collects the entire Mercury Falling arc.
2.) Jack Kirby's New Gods (1971)
Why: This is the epic that started it all with Darkseid as he scours the earth in search of the Anti-Life Equation. It is about many deep layers of history involving the New Gods, the divide between New Genesis and Apokolips. In desperation to stop an endless war Darkseid and Highfather of New Genesis agree to a pact - to trade sons and in return a long period of truce and a ceasefire would pass between worlds. Highfather agreed, trading his son for Darkseid's whom he raised with love on New Genesis. Orion, years later, is a god of war and he fights for New Genesis and he fights for Earth, undogged he persists in vanquishing Darkseid's evil wherever it dwells. But Orion has a secret, and deep shame, for he experiences anger and wrath like no other on New Genesis but there is deep compassion and love that tempers it. As Orion fights for Earth he uncovers many secrets about himself, and at his side is his 'friend' Lightray who knows the darkness in him but never turns away. Primary themes: war, anger, ptsd, secrets, space opera, family, anti-war, malice, self discovery Trigger warnings: ptsd, this was written in the 70s but was pretty liberal for its time, still has some awkward moments that are slightly sexist and racist (mostly with names of black characters Vykin the Black and Black Racer which some people are uncomfortable with). Available in Trade Paperback: Complete. 1 book. Jack Kirby's New Gods - Collects all issues of Jack's 1971 series plus Even Gods Must Die and The Hunger Dogs. NOTE: Jack Kirby's entire Fourth World epic with Mr. Miracle and The Forever People is also highly recommended and is part of the New Gods tale. All 3 series has been complied into one massive trade called Jack Kirby's Fourth World, and all are available individually as well. Either way you might be able to find these at your library, or on Hooplah.
3.) Orion by Walter Simonson
Why: Decades after Jack Kirby wrote his final chapter for New Gods Orion finally gets his solo where he faces his father on Apokolips and steps up as its ruler. Now the leader of Apokolips Orion begins the arduous task of cleansing it of its malice and cruelty, a feat that is not easy and even more so when he does it without aid. With sinister deception at every turn Orion struggles and finds himself being tempted to use the very force that he was sworn to protect everyone from; the very anti-life equation itself. Primary themes; deceit, temptation, rebirth, life and death, redemption, mercy, compassion, love, forgiveness. Trigger warnings: torture, sexual assault implications. Available in Trade Paperback - Complete. 2 books.
4.) Barda by Ngozi Ukazu (NEW!!)
Why: This is a graphic novel and is a retelling of Barda as she comes to understand love and what she really wants from her life all while navigating the cruelty of Apokolips. Primary themes: love, cruelty, malice, torture, imprisonment, hope Trigger Warnings: torture, execution. Single complete graphic novel.
5.) Superman: The Harvests of Youth by Sina Grace
Why: This is a heartbreaking coming of age story about Clark Kent as a teenager in Smallville as he finds his place among his friends, family and himself as an alien during a time of death and hatred. It is a young Superman story that is incredibly relevant today in an age of internet toxicity and leaves you feeling hopeful. This blends some elements from Smallville (the show) but tweaks them to make this its own unique bubble world that feels believable and fresh. Primary Themes: toxic masculinity, incels, bullying, suicide, capitalism, teenage coming of age, teenage romance, high school Single complete graphic novel
6.) Superman Smashes The Klan by Gene Luen Yang
Why: In the 1940s the Superman Radio Show released the story "Clan of the Fiery Cross" that told a terrifying story about the KKK targeting a Chinese-American family that moved from Chinatown into Metropolis white-dominated suburbs following WWII. This is a graphic novel that is based on the same story. Primary Themes: racism, identity issues, internalized racism, police brutality. Single complete graphic novel, and also has 3 separate novels.
7.) Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story by Nicole Maines (New!!)
Why: This is Nia Nal's solo and origin story that has been confirmed to take place in the main verse for the current comics. Nia was born and raised in a small heavily isolated Sanctuary where aliens live safely. Even among dozens of alien species Nia is still seen as different as she is the only person who is trans. To complicate everything even more, Nia inherits her people's precognitive powers when her sister Maeve was raised her entire life to accept the powers into her. Terrified of her new powers and destroying her family by revealing them she inherited them instead of her sister, she flees from her hometown to Metropolis where she for the first time in her life meets other queer people. But there is a threat to her family on the horizon, and in order to protect them she must go back and face her fears. Primary Themes: transphobia, self discovery, xenophobia, acceptance, fearfulness, family, secrets, deceit. Trigger Warnings: see above, also internalized queerphobia. Single Complete Graphic Novel
8.) Static: Season One
Why: This is a modern retelling of Milestone Comic's Static as bullied nerd Virgil Hawkins comes into his powers at a protest when police discharge an experimental tear gas. The gas leaves many of his classmates dead, but some like him gain amazing powers - unfortunately some other people, like his bullies, also gain powers. Caught between law enforcement, capitalism, and the complexities of being a new teenage superhero Virgil works to uplift his community and stay strong within his nerdy friend group. This series is heavily based on the Static Shock TV show so fans of that show will be delighted with familiar faces, and names. And yes, Richie Foley is gay. Primary Themes: racism, police brutality, bullying, anger, frustration, dehumanization. Trigger Warnings: See above Available in Trade Paperback - Complete in Static: Season One which collects all six issues. Note: We also have its sequel Static: Shadows of Dakota out as well.
9.) Superman: American Alien
Why: This is a collection of short stories about Clark at varying stages of his life that range from funny to incredibly heartfelt. Primary Themes: finding ones self, self discovery, compassion Trigger warnings: I cannot think of one Available in Trade Paperback - Complete as Superman: American Alien which collects all 7 stories.
10.) Legion of Super-Heroes: Post-Zero Hour Reboot
Why: In the 30th century R.J. Brande Industries creates the Star Gate System, finally connecting the galaxy closer than it ever had before. Travel that once took months or years to complete now could only take hours and with it came the United Planets with Earth as its home headquarters. In an effort to promote the United Planets and unify the galaxy, the Legion of Super-Heroes was formed by Brande as a peacekeeping unit and an inspiration to cooperation. Sadly, it was co-opted by political parties and turned into a draft for talented teenagers to serve, or risk their planet's enrollment in the U.P. Over the course of over 200 issues teenage super heroes are given unfathomable responsibility and power while unifying to protect their galaxy and friendships while combating xenophobia and political corruption. This series is everything people wanted TTv3 to be but never got. Primary Themes: Dehumanization, loss of autonomy, death, life, space, technology, capitalism, political corruption, manipulation, deceit, hope, romance, found family Trigger Warnings: See above plus ableism and teenage pregnancy. Available in Trade Paperback: Partially. We have 2 volumes called Legionnaires which collect approximately 20 issues, plus extra content, of this run. We also have various other trade collections such as Legion Lost in its entirety.
11.) Ascender and Descender by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen
Why: Tired of superheroes? These are two separate series that follow the same story about a young companion robot named Tim who was assigned to be his human brother's best friend and companion. Unfortunately, during a mining accident his entire colony had to flee and leave him behind as they attempted to escape toxic gas. 10 years have gone by since then, and a lot has changed in the world since he was shut down. Mostly being 95% of all robots have been destroyed and are targeted for destruction after a mysterious robotic alien force attacked all sentient worlds and obliterated the populations down to catastrophic levels. All Tim wants to do is find his brother Andy, but what has become of Andy in 10 years, and what will happen to him in 10 more years after they reunite? This story takes place over 20 years as Tim and Andy both grow and change, as they face the challenges before them and unravel the mystery of the Artificial Intelligence that swore to destroy all organic life. Oh, and magic is also involved too. Primary themes: hatred, violence, abuse, xenophobia, forgiveness, found family, brothers, dehumanization, life, death, magic, balance, manipulation, deceit, mysteries, will probably remind you of Mass Effect. Trigger Warnings: see above Available in Trade Paperback: the entire series is available across multiple books.
That's all I have for now folks, I'm tired of writing.

Soccer Sensation Bradley Bradshaw Fails To Shoot His Shoot With Y/N At Her Concert?
Arsenal captain Bradley Bradshaw may be among his club’s top scorers this season, but even he misses a chance in romance like the rest of us.
The 29-year-old athlete spoke about his missed opportunity with the multi-platinum songstress Y/N while speaking to his former teammate Héctor Bellerín on the latter’s podcast, “More Than A Footballer”, earlier this week.
When asked about any fun stuff he did last weekend, Bradshaw replied,
“I went to the Y/N concert at Wembley [Stadium]... it was awesome. It was pouring rain, but it was amazing. I don’t remember Wembley ever being that electric aside from, like, cup finals. She was sensational.”
Bellerín nods in agreement, having heard great things about the famed singer-songwriter’s live concerts.
Unprompted, the American midfielder then continued,
“If you’ve heard about the tour, there’s this tradition of trading friendship bracelets. And I actually made one with my number on it, hoping I could give it to her after the show…”
The Cockney-raised Spaniard cackled in surprise and teased him, “But she didn’t wanna see you, bruv? [That is] legend!”
“No hard feelings!” Bradshaw raised his hands in defense over the Zoom call. “She needed to dry off and get warm. Gotta make sure she stays healthy, protect those vocal cords. But yeah, I was a bit bummed out about it.”
Bellerín laughed and jokingly addressed the camera, “Y/N, if you’re watching, give my boy a chance, will you?”
Mononymous pop sensation Y/N is hot off of her Kaleidoscope North American Tour, which wrapped in September. Her six-show run at Wembley Stadium this November officially kicks off the European leg of her sold-out tour.
Will they be the next pop royalty and conquer the stadiums with their own crafts, or will this fizzle out as this week’s viral anecdote? The ball is in your court, Y/N.
Y/N’s representatives have not responded for comment.

Your Miu Miu heels click and clack against the ground. The pavement gleams after the rain and glistens under the streetlights. Everywhere you look, your eyes hurt. Down, and you worry about slipping into a puddle and falling on your ass. Forward, and a million camera flashes are ready to give you an aneurysm.
All in the name of reporting your night off of work, performing live in front of 90,000 people in a stadium.
In other words, all in a day’s work.
There’s a moment of reprieve, when the silvery white blitzes disappear into the dim tangerine lighting of the lobby. The flight down the stairs is so dark, you’re seeing green. It takes your eyes a moment to adjust, but as soon as they do, the thumping bass line of some dance music hits your ears. Clashing perfumes doused on the dancing, dressed-up bodies that you have to weave through.
You are seriously regretting your girl friends’ invite to a night out. You could’ve just had them over to your hotel, open a bunch of red wine, and you would’ve still had a blast. But no. You had to say yes to going to the Cuckoo Club with Lacey, Amara, and Jo.
And this evening is making you feel quite cuckoo.
There’s champagne at your booth and you’re much too eager to take a glass and start a toast. “Cheers, bitches!” you yell over the music, clinking your glass against theirs before downing the whole thing in one go.
It’s nowhere near enough.
There’s not enough buzz to dull the assault to your senses—not even after the three glasses of wine at dinner earlier. Everything is still too loud, too bright, too crowded, too… much.
“Hey!” you nudge Amara, who is sitting right next to you. “Let’s do shots!”
She turns to you, eyes widening at the slightest. “I thought you wanted to take it easy tonight!”
“Changed my mind,” you shrug, as you get up to the bar.
While you make your way through the crowd on the dance floor, Bradley Bradshaw looks up from his booth and does a double-take at the girl who just walked by. Even in a high-end club full of the well-dressed and well-heeled, people still get starstruck. And why wouldn’t they? You’re about as famous as an iPhone.
His eyes widen and immediately whips out his phone to shoot a text to his oldest and most trusted friend Natasha Trace.
‘Dude, I’m in the club and Y/N just walked in. What do I do??’
Natasha thankfully texts back almost immediately. Then again, maybe being a Communications Director for a major company requires her to be a good texter. ‘Wdym what do you do? Just go talk to her.’
‘You were supposed to introduce us!’ Bradley replies, eyes darting between his phone and you at the bar, conflicted.
Natasha is a mutual friend of yours, too, and when the Bracelet-gate clip went viral, she laughed in his face for a full 5 minutes before deciding to set the two of you up. But the schedule never really aligned, so he hasn’t got a chance to see you. Not even after he went to your concert with a friendship bracelet and a dream.
And now, seeing you here in the same room at the same time as him…
‘What do you want me to do, get down there and do it for you?’
‘...Can you?’
He senses the judgment even as the three dots appear on his screen.
‘Stop being a pussy, Bradshaw. Let me Netflix and chill with my gf in peace.’
Bradley scoffs, half-annoyed and half-fond. ‘Asshole. Have fun.’
The dance floor clears up, just enough to see that you’re right there. Leaning against the bar in your dress like a dirty daydream, talking to the bartender, and he couldn’t just let you go without a word. He thought about it, and he simply couldn’t.
“Oi, where are you off to?” His teammate Martin hollers, while the others watch him make his way to the bar in determined strides.
He squeezes past patrons across this jungle of a club, hoping to God that somebody hasn’t beaten him to talk to you yet, or you haven’t ducked out completely. Oh fuck. You’re still there, though. Good. You’re still at the bar, still glimmering under the mirrorball. Just a tap on the shoulder away. You can do it, Bradshaw…
“Excuse me, I—”
You feel the hand on your shoulder just as you turn and stand up, and in a flurry of miscoordination, looks up just as the other person moves in.
In a stroke of dumb luck, Bradley feels the top of your head slamming up against his nose and he groans in pain. “Ohh!”
“Shit! Oh my God…” you gasp, reaching out to the man in front of you. He’s tall, very tall, and you can’t quite see his face with his massive hand clutching his nose. “I’m so sorry…”
“No, it’s okay. My bad…” It really doesn’t seem like it, so he lets go of his nose and smiles sheepishly. Gosh, he must’ve looked stupid right now.
But you see it differently. What you see is a dashing man in a sleek tieless navy suit and a well-groomed mustache, straight out of a Cinemascope flick, ever so handsome despite his reddened nose from the way you just accidentally headbutted him. “No, that was totally mine. Are you okay?”
Your eyes are crystal clear even in the dim light, the concern is palpable in your gaze—and rightly so. It’s just that he’d take the headbutt any day, if it means he can look at your beautiful face. “I’m… I’m swell. Y/N, right?”
There’s a shift in your gaze. First, alert—you’re assessing how much of a potential threat this person is, whether they’re gonna be weird about you— and then it relaxes. Not a threat. Then a slightest hint of mischief, like she wants to know what kind of dynamics they would have. “Have we met?”
And boy, can he.
“We haven’t, actually. But I went to your show at Wembley earlier this week. You were amazing.” He offers a handshake. “Bradley Bradshaw.”
You didn’t quite catch his name over the blaring music, although you shake his hand anyway. “Sorry?”
He leans into your ear, “I’m Bradley Bradshaw.”
You don’t know which one makes your heart skip, the sudden close proximity, the warmth of his timbre, or the whiff of his perfume.
“Right. Nice to meet you, Bradley Bradshaw.” You accept his handshake, hoping he doesn’t see how flustered you are in the strobing purple light.
“Likewise.” He nods with a smile. “And may I just say… you look stunning.”
“What, this old thing?” You brush down the art nouveau-inspired Balmain dress on your body. You’re just being modest, of course; you know you’re dressed to the nines. You have never been much into facial hair, but somehow that mustache suits him very well. “You don’t look so bad yourself. You remind me of a… young Robert Mitchum. Or Paul Newman— or one of those Golden Age leading men.”
His face lights up. It’s hardly the first time he received that kind of compliment, but when it came from you, it feels… different. It feels special. It makes him just a little bolder. “Yeah? Maybe after a few drinks, I’ll be quoting lines from Butch Cassidy. Or would you prefer Cat On A Hot Tin Roof?”
This piques your interest. A man of culture, it seems. But of course, you can’t be too sure. “I’m more of a Paris Blues kinda gal, I’m afraid.”
Gosh, you don’t swoon so easily and he likes you so much for that. “Makes sense.”
“How so?”
“It’s a good underrated musical movie, for the musically gifted… And Sidney Poitier was just fantastic in that.”
“Huh.” You raise your eyebrows. You honestly thought he was just spouting the famous titles. But the fact that he has likely seen this hidden gem might just mean he’s really into it. “Aren’t you full of surprises.”
He leans in to speak in your ear yet again. “If you stick with me for a bit, I might show you another surprise or two.”
The music drowns out your racing heart just barely, and the bartender places a whole set of tequila shots on the bar top, and it snaps you out of your reverie for a moment.
“Wanna get some air?”
He seems surprised, but of course he wasn’t gonna throw away this shot. “Sure. Why not?”
You instruct the bartender to send the shots to your booth, not even spending ten seconds to ponder staying in this deafening hell hole. Not when this man looks like peace. Perhaps an undercurrent of mystery underneath, but his whole demeanor is as calm and comforting as those old-school movies you put on to fall asleep. At the same time, something about this person pulls you in, it’s almost magnetic, and you can’t help wanting to see this through.
