I cheerfully blame @setmeatopthepyre and @911coded for this 😂😂😂 you guys had me thinking Stargate verse again and now I'm tempted to do some rewatch 🤭🤭

Because of the firetruck bombing and later the embolism, Buck’s blood was in the system and was flagged for having ATA gene. O’Neill and Doctor Weir, looking to pad the Atlantis Expedition, were interested in his files, especially his impressive SAR qualification, his US NAVY SEAL training (and why he chose to drop out) and his heroism especially with the tsunami (They really dug deep on him, plus he saved two family members of Stargate Command and they kept raving about the brave, selfless off-duty firefighter), making him the perfect bridge for both civilian and military parts of the expedition.

O’Neill was in LA to recruit him when he found out about the lawsuit and realizing Buck was on the right (seeing that LAFD was trying hard to settle out of court with an impressive payout AND how he rejected the money saying it would hurt LAFD and all he wanted was his job back), offered a vague job offering that would let him see ‘the worlds beyond.’ I mean, LAFD loss, Stargate Command gain, right?

Buck was suspicious cos hello, Military with sus credentials but after the grocery shop confrontation, he needed to leave LA before he gets even more hurt and accepts the offer, dropping the lawsuit, leaving for Colorado Springs where he was in AWE COS SPACE!!!!

Tommy (recently out and proud after leaving 118) meanwhile was transferred temporarily out of LA to Colorado Spring SAR unit after he punched a violent parent attacking their trans child mid transit to the hospital. The brass said he did nothing wrong but the guy turns out to be VIP so they are gonna transfer him away for a short while and fix things after their ongoing debacle with 118.

Tommy’s medical check triggered an alert showing he, too, had ATA genes so O’Neill picked him up along the way (he could use another pilot in the base.)

Buck raised some VERY IMPORTANT questions about the expeditions and made some thoughtful suggestions that had people paying attention to him. Dr Weir told him to help with the planning as a test, and gave him a clipboard while at it (You’re giving me a clipboard? Buck looked in awe at her. He now has a new platonic crush on the cool doctor) and he used his clipboard power for good, and after doing such an impressive job, left Stargate Command and Stargate Expedition arguing who gets to keep him after all. The loud rivalry over him and the way people trust him with power helps heal some of Buck’s low esteem and self-confidence post lawsuit)

(Tommy has a crush on the new very cute quartermaster/safety officer and is having interesting fantasies about him and his clipboard. He sneakily applies for the expedition much to O’Neill’s shock cos hello, I recruit you for Stargate Command, not Stargate Expedition but Dr Weir snatched him up immediately cos more ATA genes the better heheheheh)

yay stargate people! i got sick this week and i started watching atlantis to pass the time (i've been on the sg-1 train for a while now) and now it has quite literally taken over my brain i have literally started writing two different fanfics!!

If not, do you have any fic recs with the same ‘verse?👀

If you did, do you have plans to write more fics in the same verse, outside of the ones you’ve written?

not overstepping! i am also a curious fellow, and you’ve given me an opportunity to Talk History.

see, i did not come up with the BDSM AU, but i’ve read it for years and became fascinated with how people played with it. i love fandom history, so i eventually started to wonder where it came from and how it evolved.

the first BDSM AU was written by Xanthe (who has a website you can read all her stuff on, xanthe.com, and it also has an faq about her original world, super interesting) back in 2006. now, it’s possible that other people independently came up with a similar idea earlier than this (indeed, theres an early 2000s fantasy book series with a Vaguely similar premise), but everything i’ve ever found cites Xanthe as the first to do it in fandom and the one to popularize it, so we’re going with that.

the fic series was Stargate: Atlantis fic (john/rodney, for those familiar) with the basic premise of “alternate universe where being bisexual and kinky is the default.” no biological factor! just a different balance of sexualities. i only read part of the very first fic because they’re quite long and i don’t all the way jive with Xanthe’s writing style, so take this with a cup of salt, but they also lacked the dystopian edge many of the modern fics have. let’s be honest—like many fic tropes, it was mostly an excuse to write smut :P.

now, while Xanthe was quite a big name, and did have people spinning off and writing their own versions of her world, it might not have gone anywhere was it not for Helenish. Helenish took issue with Xanthe’s spin on the world and thought that she hadn’t fully explored the worldbuilding potential. she wrote Take Clothes Off As Directed, which i’ve recced on this blog and in the notes of Free Falling, because it is PHENOMENAL. it kept Xanthe’s premise and used it to explore a sexism allegory, very very similar to my stuff and other current popular BDSM AUs.

people began writing in Helenish’s ‘verse, some minor drama broke out between the two writers and their followers (presumably minor—much of this happened on Livejournal, which famously and tragically had many accounts wiped in 2007-2008, especially accounts that posted queer stuff or nsfw stuff or, in cases like these, both. so it’s difficult to figure out what exactly was happening in fandom around then, especially if you’re me and never used LJ and don’t know how to effectively navigate it)

annnyway, the thing took off, made its way to other fandoms, more and more people wrote their own versions, etc. over time, people began combining it with Omegaverse fics, since the two are pretty similar; when those fusions were pulled apart later, they affected one another; this is where BDSM AUs became more biology-flavored, and where we get certain Omegaverse tropes like “omega drop.”

if it wasn’t obvious, i’ve done a lot of looking into this, and i hope to do more soon and eventually put all that info to good use in some form of project—not sure what yet. i’m also not at allll biased between Xanthe and Helenish…..genuinely, Xanthe did a good thing and wrote a LOT of influential fic, we’re just…very different writers.

but ANYWAY, yeah, definitely not my idea, i’m building on the backs of thousands of writers before me. and it’s awesome.

i DO have a fic rec list somewhere on this blog, but i’m actually in the process of updating it! the goal is to get around 40-50 fics on there and i’m pretty close, so keep an eye out (it’s just taking a long time because i have to read fics to know if they’re good enough to rec….and then i just read fanfic for 6 hours….and then i reread some of them because they’re just really good….)

not sure what you mean by the third question—i don’t currently have any plans to write an AU outside of FLFverse, like a different fandom or plot or anything. i’ve thrown around the idea of what i affectionately call the SLSverse (that’s “seems like soaring,” get it, synonyms?), which would be what-ifs or AUs of the AU, but not its own thing.

within FLFverse, yes, i plan to write more fic XD. 2024 has been the roughest for my writing since probably 2019, which really sucks, but what can ya do. in truth, when i started writing Free Falling and Cross the Line and all those in fall 2023, i was hours from home/friends, unemployed, borderline flunking college, and like, big depressed—i had a ton of free time! and FLFverse was approximately the only thing i cared about. now i’m home again and have a job and am doing More Okay at school (academia and i are not friends), and i have other big fun projects to split my time between. i’m pretty determined to at least finish FF, even if it takes me another 10 years, and along the way i’ll write whatever oneshots strike my fancy.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

Total works? I have 398. This might not be completely accurate depending on your point of view. For almost everything I write I create a podfic for it, and these days I post it at the same time in the text document. For solely written works, I have 31.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

For all works (Including the minimal text on podfic only posts) I have 483,266. For hours of podfic, I don’t have a total right now, (My spreadsheet is messed up so I’m making a new one), but I have over 300 hours from lst count before the spreadsheet got messed up

3. What fandoms do you write for?

My main fandom right now is Hannibal. For writing only, I’ve written for Daredevil, star Wars, Dragon Ball, Avatar the Last Airbender, My hero Academia, Yuri on ice, Steven universe, marvel (Comics, MCU, And Netflix), captive prince and teen wolf. For podfic that list expands exponentially. Podfic includes all of the above, and other ones I’ve created a significant amounts of works for include Star Trek AOS, Tin Man, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Guy Ritchie movies), Dirk Gently’s holistic detective agency (TV), Harry Potter, Cracked: After Hours, Stargate Atlantis, Guardians of the Galaxy, Community and many many more. I have close to 100 fandoms I’ve done stuff in (Although some of them have multiple under the umbrella like different marvel stuff and different star wars movies)

Honor bound, an avatar the last Airbender fic my friend wrote and I podficced, swords sanctuary and solace, an ATLA fic I wrote, podfic of oh right, you were a little shit (A My Hero Academia kid fic), Boomerangs and Rainbows, At ATLA fic I podficced, and No Heart for Me Like Yours, A Dragon Ball fic I wrote

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes, I am chronically online. I get email alerts of comments, and I check my email multiple times a day, so I respond to every comment unless the email gets eaten.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

For podfic, It would either have to be the November series (A daredevil fic series that has ALL THE WARNINGS and has a v sad ending) Or Il Faut Souffrir Pour Être Beau, a Hannibal podfic that has a lot of warnings and a sad ending. For writing? Kindling (A Hannibal fanfic) which I wrote with Artemiaz is v angsty, Tethered and tied to me (An ATLA fic), has all the warnings and ends v v sad. Another close one would be The Awakening and the Sleep which has an immortal Matt Murdock (Daredevil fandom) and like it makes him even more reckless and things do not go well for him. But this is not finished. I Also have a dead dove account with a Hannibal fic that is not finished, but involves forced feminzation and underage, where things are v fucked up (I won’t link it but if you wanna read it DM me)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Definitely No Heart for me like yours. It Is a dragon ball fic with Gohan/Vegeta, Gohan/Videl, And Bulma/Vegeta. It is p fluffy and the polyamory is well discussed and V healthy.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have got some on podfic, I like dead dove tropes and fucked up relationships, and I’ve had some people come after me for.

9. Do you write smut?

I both write and record smut. The first thingI did when I decided I wanted to podfic was record some pure smut to make sure I could do it. For writing, I’ve written a fe short smut stories, and most of my longer ones end up having at least one smut scene if not more

10. Craziest crossover?

I wrote sailor moon/dragon ball crossover when I was like 14. I have never written a traditional crossover on my current account, But I have written fusions/AU’s. I have a Steven universe x star wars prequel AU. I also have star wars AU’s for most of the fandoms iv’e written for, I have a spideypool one, A My Hero Academia one, And A Hannibal one. I have also podficced a number of fusions and crossovers. I am working on an AMAZING, Stargate sg-1 x ATLA crossover called the dragon King’s temple and it is to die for, SO fucking good

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, but I’ve been plaguized

I have not, But I do podfic my own works. And I had a friend podfic a work of mine

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, I love it, For he has held a star was co-written, and so was kindling. I also do podtogether where I sign up with a writer to write a fic specifically for me to podfic, and I am part of/organize a lot of multi-voice podfics.

14. All time favourite ship?

I’m usually the type of person who loves one charter, and I don’t care who they are shipped with as long as the fic is good. Exceptions being currently Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham. John/Rodney from Stargate Atlantis was another, and Merlin/Arthur form Merlin. But I will read ot3’s with the two I ship in it.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

For He held a star. My co-writer got super big into the rebel legion and the mandolorian mercs (Star wars charity costuming groups) And she no longer has time to write. I want to finish it myself, but I have no idea where the story is going and I have to figure that out first.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I am good at dialogue, I find it easy to get a firm grasp on characters voices. For podfic I am excellent with both humor and drama. For certain fandoms I have been told I have an excellent impression of character’s voices.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I deffo am not used to doing extensive description. I also thought I was bad at metaphor and Similes, so I purposefully stayed away from writing them, hence fulfilling the prophesy that I would not get good, bc no practice. I am working on that now though.

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I Use it sparingly, most of the time where it is clear what it is in context. Also as a podficcer I hate when something is in another language and I have to do research to find out how to pronounce it properly.

19. First fandom you wrote in?

Sailor moon and dragon Ball Z! First intro to anime and it pulled me down a rabbit hole.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Ooh boy, IDK, I love No Heart for me like yours, It was so fluffy and with like very few problems between characters, and I though I had a fair number of funny bits in it. It was also the first WIP I finished (It ended up being just over 50k) Currently I Really love When Soft Voices Die, My Star Wars x Hannibal fusion.

For podfic I love Untitled soul mate game. A star Wars fic that is an alternate Universe - Soulmate Goose of enforcemnt fic. I think i did a great job with the humor and i added a bunch of Goose sound effects. I love Il Faut Souffrir Pour Être Beau it was so angsty and sad and i had so much fun reading all the drama. I t is also the longest podfic i have recorded to date, it clocks in at just undert 17 hours.

Heinz 57 is a marvel crack fic where a pikachu appears in Wade Wilson's apartment. It is v funny and has extensive sound effects, nd a fully soundscaped pokemon battle at the end

And lastly my fav multivoice i've organized is to have and to hold, a spidervers fic that shows a flashback of when Mile's univer's aunt may got married to doc ock for a small time. ALl of my readers were fucking phenominal and it was so funny.

Shrinking Violets — MHA, Shinzawa-centric, omegaverse, underage arranged marriage (but nothing happens between them for a while) - feel free to ask me worldbuilding questions about this for my worldbuilding doc :3

Venus Conjunct Pluto in Scorpio — Hannibal/MHA fusion; ShinzawaMic with Hizashi as Hannibal, Shouta as Will, and Hitoshi as Abigail for a lovely little Murder Family <3 Very slow burn and does not stick to Hannibal canon except for some spots where it does. Can be read with little to no knowledge of Hannibal as a whole.

Color Seeping Through My Cracks — MHA, Yakuza soulmate AU, ShinzawaMic. Yakuza duo ShinMic find their soulmate in barista/waiter Aizawa and take in him and his totally legally adopted daughter.

Turning Tables — MHA, Shinzawa, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat. Seriously. Read the tags. Teen serial killer Shinsou gets kidnapped by more experienced (in every way) Aizawa.

In the drafting stage:

Parallelism — OC-centric, my Stargate OCs from SG-13 (Muki, Tyler, and Kira) get reincarnated in MHA and make friends. Worldbuilding abounds.

A sequel to Three Sheets to the Wind (in a bed for two) — MHA, genderbent Shinzawa, the morning after.

On the back burner (projects I intend to get to once I finish at least one of my current fics):

Schismatic — DCMK, originally KaiShin, now KaiShinHei. Set after Movie 13, my first attempt at writing dark!fic. A member of the Black Org finds out Conan is Shinichi and tries to protect him in dubious ways. Gotta figure out where I was going with the end of the plot (bc I have the middle plotted out) and write that.

Shadow Bride — RotG, BlackIce with genderbent Jack. AU where she and Pitch meet a couple hundred years ago and become friends, then eventually a couple. Finishing up the last few chapters.

A Wonderful World (of Magic) — Hetalia/HP, England becomes the History of Magic teacher during Harry’s sixth year, not HBP compliant. No longer write for either of these fandoms due to various reasons, but I have a rough outline of plot points and how it was going to end so I’m going to flesh that out for basically a summary draft of how the story ends.

SG-13 proper — Stargate SG-1/Atlantis, my OC team and their hijinks, mostly set during/on Atlantis. Might possibly rewrite it as a whole, might just write the parts that are vaguely referenced in Parallelism bc it’s changed plots so many times over the years with so many fandom crossovers and now I’ve swung back around to it being fully Stargate focused and all three of my characters have gone through a lot of development and I want to share that with everyone <3

On the counter, off to the side (who knows when this will happen):

The Universe of the Four Tanteis — DCMK/Fushigi Yuugi, members of the Fushigi Yuugi cast get reincarnated as DCMK characters. Gotta slap together a rough outline of where I remember the story going so I can post that and be done lol

In the Arms of Death — DCMK, veeery vaguely remember the plot I was going for with this one, I want to slap together an outline for readers and in case anyone wants to adopt it bc I think it’s a cool concept.

Hope’s Child — RotG/HP crossover, Bunnymund adopts Harry, JackBunny. I don’t write HP anymore but I have a sort of vague idea where everything was going for this fic so I might put together an outline for readers or just put it up for adoption ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Houseguest — RotG, pre-movie Tooth finds an injured Jack and takes him in. Apparently I started drafting a second chapter for this? Might finish it.

Stop Poking Logic-Shaped Holes in my School! — DCMK/HP, was pending a rewrite but since I no longer write HP I’m waffling on what to do with this. Pending decision.

A Beautiful Relationship — DCMK, KaiShin and HakuHei, a continuation years later from my oneshot A Beautiful Friendship. Might continue this, might post an outline; haven’t decided.

Love in G Major — Hetalia, USUK, PruCan, Giripan and a host of other ships, Nyotalia human high school AU. Had a vague idea of some plot points so might post that in case someone wants to adopt it.

Cardgate — YGO/Stargate crossover, I know I have like half a chapter in a notebook somewhere that I never posted, so I think I’ll finish that chapter and then post an outline lol

Relics of the Tau’ri — Hetalia/Stargate crossover, might post an outline of where the story was headed.

Magical Cicadas — Higurashi/HP crossover, Higurashi characters get reborn as HP characters. I have a chapter or two of this in a notebook somewhere that I’ll post once I find it.

Crossover

(in which John is in the middle of his worst nightmare come to life & Rodney seems to have had a more interesting past than originally advertised)

"John, no!"

It was supposed to be a milk run. A routine treaty renewal with an ally they'd had since the expedition's first year. Nothing exciting was supposed to happen.

Nothing was supposed to happen.

"McKay, come on. Talk to me."

"Just hold on, we're almost there. Keep your eyes open, you hear me?"

"Dammit, Rodney! Don't do this to me!"

The race to the gate passed by in a blur, and John's heart thundered as he kept pace with the rest of his team.

Rodney was slung over one of Ronon's shoulders, head bouncing as his lifeblood continued to drip down the other man's arm. He stopped groaning half an hour and an eternity ago, and next to Ronon, John ran with his arm clenched tight on Rodney's TAC vest.

As they went through the event horizon, John's chest burned where the Telmaran rebel's bullet was supposed to go.

“John, what happened back there?”

Sensing that John was not fit for polite company, much less capable of giving a report, Teyla took Elizabeth aside and relayed to her the Cliff’s Notes version of the events.

That a group of rebels had stormed the government palace after they heard of the Atlantis team’s return.

That they’d claimed to have sensed a dark, cosmic entity within one of the team members the last time they visited.

That John, being the leader, had been the first suspect.

That Rodney had stepped in front of John just as the rebel leader’s gun went off.

“McKay’ll be fine.”

Ronon left John in the locker room after all but dragging him out of the medical wing. There was nothing they could do from there, anyway. And the last thing John needed was to have his heart rise and fall with the worry lines on Carson’s face as he worked to bring Rodney back to life from the other side of the operating room’s viewing window.

Back to John.

Now, John sat on the bench, Rodney’s bloody vest in his hands.

His arms stopped shaking a moment ago, but it still took a while for him to notice that the vest kept on trembling. Turning it over, John dug around the compartments until he found the source of the vibration.

It was a pocket watch.

The timepiece was silver and about the size of John’s palm. Its cover had intricate markings, circles and swirls intersected by seemingly random lines coming from different directions.

It looked old and worn, heavier than any pocket watch ought to weigh. When John ran a thumb over the curious designs, something inside glowed.

Before he could open it, his radio chirped and snapped him out of the daze. Carson’s frantic voice brought him back to solid ground.

“Colonel, we need you here in the infirmary. It’s Rodney. He—”

The rest of the doctor’s words got lost to wind as John sprinted to the nearest transporter.

The rest of John’s words, all the pleas and admissions threatening to leave his lips as he clutched at the sands of time, at the threads of Rodney’s life, froze as John saw the familiar, blinding light that had spilled from the infirmary when he arrived.

It was the same light that continued to pulse from within Rodney’s watch.

Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

despite a sinking feeling that the characterization is sus and so will need some... extensive rewrites, i really do want to finish temet nosce, particularly the nearly fatal electrocution in the warehouse that the prophetic dream was warning about. neither scene has been written anywhere but in my head 😔

also i have no idea what the main plot points of naissance are gonna be but boy do i wanna get to coalesce and corporeity, the next two stories in the series. they are all sequels to a finished, published work and so while i would love to talk about them more i'm reluctant to do so bc the last time i mentioned "hey i'm working on a sequel" it didn't go anywhere and so. many. people. got hung up on it...

there's not a single like on this whumptober fill (it's more than one paragraph but i don't care) from three years ago and i'm sad about it. i understand why - the fandom is made up of about two people and a red setter (an in-joke i stubbornly and bitterly insist on making despite the fact that no one will understand it bc the fandom is made up of about two people and a red setter) - so i don't expect people to know this but. the dialogue feels very in-character to me

a shouting match, fight, and/or haughtily tearful cold war between me, my muse, the characters, the story i want to tell, the story i wrote in my head, the story i'm ending up telling, and the three new ideas i've had in the past two days when fandom A[1] verbed[2] a noun belonging to[3] fandom B[4]

RIP me, this is one (1) version of this fusion AU. MAYBE IT’LL BE THE ONE I COMMIT TOO, WHO KNOWS

Gen, SGA/Firefly fusion,  ~1600 words

Two women approach an isolated saloon on a poorly terraformed planet. The land is more sand and cactus than habitable earth, and the saloon is perched too near the sandy edge of a canyon. It's unclear if it was placed there, or if the cliff is simply crumbling away towards it.

The women are dressed in dusty travelers' gear, well worn but also well cared for. They are watchful in the way of fighters-- and criminals. Where one looks, the other is casually watching the other direction. They are familiar with one another, if not with the territory. The first woman, stepping just slightly in the lead, has a strong, angled face and a sharp nose. Her eyes are lighter, shaded by a heavy, stiff-brimmed felt hat. Sooty, soft lashes make ever blink look coy, but her eyes are as sharp as the rest of her. Her hair is a mess of fawn brown curls that spill from under her hat. It just brushes the shoulders of her sensible tan canvas jacket.

The second woman walks just to the left and a half step behind the other woman. She is softer-seeming at first glance than her companion, but like the first woman her sharp eyes belie the faux vulnerability of her wide soft mouth and fine features. Her skin is smooth and naturally brown- -not leathery and yellowish like a well-burned white man's. She wears her coppery hair braided, coiled, and pinned into a crown around her head. She wears nothing to cover her head, but there is a woven cotton scarf wrapped around her neck and shoulders. These are her only concessions to the heat and the sun. Unlike her companion, she is poorly dressed for the hot desert sun. Her brown leather duster hangs almost to the tops of her knee-high, battered leather boots. Both women are armed, though only a quarter of their weaponry is visible: a blaster each, carried in plain view; boot and belt knives; and, curiously, a pair of light-wood sticks strapped to the second woman's strong hip and thigh, visible only in glimpses when her open coat flutters in the breeze.

They are a captain and her lieutenant (and thieves and smugglers, when they are not just an honest captain and her first woman,) and they are in great need of a new pilot for their vessel, the Firefly-class Atlantis. They've been told by several well-meaning people in the nearby town that there is a man who is high in piloting talent that can be found at this saloon; in addition to an impressive resume, he is low on funds at the moment, which makes him a very attractive prospect to the Atlantis' captain and her lieutenant.

Normally, both women would be more cautious about following the directions of the people of a planet like this one. They are strangers in a hard land, and that can sometimes make them acceptable loses or easy pickings if they're not careful. But the people of this town on this planet mark the calendar the same way that Teyla does; Elizabeth had marked how the folks they had talked with would look at Teyla's brown leather duster with firey eyes and sad smiles, and it had motivated her to trust their information.  

He answers to Sheppard, they've been told, and they will apparently know him once they see him. Elizabeth is hoping that this means what she thinks it means. Teyla maintains that there is nothing wrong with all of the crew sharing piloting duties, but Elizabeth cannot do what needs to be done without an experienced pilot. She trusts Teyla's judgement, but she's also feeling a creeping desperation. She needs this pilot, and she needs him to be as good as the people in town say he is.

As they approach the saloon, the door slams open, and both women's hands snap to weapons. A tall, pale man stumbles violently out of the building like he's been shoved. All Elizabeth notices in the seconds after he appears are long limbs and black hair pretty much everywhere, especially his head. All of this is plainly obvious, as the man is almost naked with the exception of something that might have been a sheet wrapped around his waist.

Seemingly unconcerned about his state of undress, the man turns back to the building. "Listen, buddy, I'm no man to break up a good thing," the man drawls into the dark, gaping doorway. Elizabeth has to admit that she admires his boldness, but then she catches a glimpse of the mountain of a person stalking out after the be-sheeted man. Ah, she thinks, unable to look away, an idiot. A brave idiot, but still an idiot. Elizabeth has a sinking suspicion that this might be exactly the man they're looking for.  

"She's all I got, Sheppard, you piece of cat shit! Of all the women--" The huge man confirms her suspicions, and Elizabeth sighs. She had so hoped that Sheppard would make himself an easy sell to her fastidious lieutenant.

"Hey!" the man, Sheppard, interrupts indignantly. "Hey now, it takes," he stumbles over the sheet at his feet. He's drunk with booze or something else-- the finger he points at the huge man wavers as he sways. "It takes two to tangle, ya know, I didn't exactly trip her on to my--!"

Elizabeth shoots a look at Teyla, who raises an eyebrow at her. "Whether we hire him or not, I believe it will be necessary to intervene, Elizabeth," she says softly, and Elizabeth nods.

Diffusing the situation takes more money than charm. Even then the man refuses to back down until Teyla very casually unholsters her blaster and taps it gently against her thigh. Unlike Sheppard, the man makes the smart move. For all his size and strength, he's outnumbered and knows it; he takes the money and the offer of a free drink from the two women who mean serious business.

After it's handled, Sheppard looks at them, still swaying slightly. " 'ppreciate that," he mutters, rearranging his sheet with little dignity or success. "She spilled a drink all down me and next thing I know I'm naked in the backroom."

"You're Sheppard, then?" Elizabeth asks instead of responding. She knows from the smile she can feel curling the edges of her mouth that she's likely to laugh if she tries to engage with him about his....predicament. She likes him, God help her.

Sheppard looks are her with light eyes, suddenly sharp and wary. "Depends who wants to know." He straightens as much as he can in his sheet wrap.

"Just someone as needs a pilot like the one people keep telling me you are," Elizabeth says easily, staying cheerful and light. "Someone who can pay you for the trouble. Though now I've seen you in action, I can't say I'm impressed."

His spine snaps straight—and isn't that interesting; for all his floppy hair and the drink Elizabeth can smell from where she's standing some feet away, Sheppard comes to attention right quick. "Listen lady--"

"Captain." Teyla interrupts gently from behind Elizabeth. When she looks back, Teyla's eyes are watchful, her body deceptively relaxed. "This is Captain Weir and I am her second, Teyla Emmagan."

Sheppard blinks at them; to Elizabeth's relief, his spine relaxes. "Captain, then," he says, and his voice is softer. "What I do ground-bound's got nothin' to do with the way I can fly. All the stories you've heard, they're probably true." He manages sincerity in what should be gross boasting, and Elizabeth cocks her head.

"So what's a hot-shot like you doing in a dive bar like this," she asks softly, stepping in closer. She knows what today is to Teyla-- half the reason her friend is so tense and watchful is because that's how she always is on this particular day of the year. Elizabeth watches John flick his eyes towards Teyla, and then tenses as she watches his mouth twist down.

"Haven't you heard," he says, with curious, flat bitterness, "It’s a gorram holiday.” 

"It is," Teyla answers, before Elizabeth can. "You do not look to be celebrating, however."

Sheppard doesn’t say anything more, he just looks--tired, suddenly, from his bare feet to the top of his messy head. He hasn’t looked away from Teyla and her brown duster, but he eyes are different from the people they’d met in the town. There’s no pride their, fierce or otherwise. It’s more complicated than that. Out of the corner of her eye, Elizabeth sees Teyla's chin hike up, defiant. 

"Listen, captain" Sheppard says suddenly, "you give me two thrusters and a rudder, and I can fly 'em. I've been on this damn rock for three days too many, and you can see I've overstayed my welcome." He spreads the one arm that isn't clutching his sheet out. "Take me or leave me."

Elizabeth thinks about it, considers the misery on his face and the stories that she's heard. "We'll see how you do," she says at length. "A month long trial. If you can fly straight and survive our mechanic, I might lift your probation." Sheppard slumps a little, and she can see it's with relief. She holds up a forestalling hand before he can say anything. "But we're not a luxury cruise service and we're not likely to benefit from any of this." She waves a hand, generally encompassing the sheet, the saloon, and Sheppard himself. "You pull something like this while you're on my crew, I'll make sure the planet I dump you on makes this one look like the prettiest piece of rock in the system. Got it?"

Sheppard looks paler when he meets her eyes, but his face his set and his eyes are clear. "You got a deal... Captain."

I LOVE crossovers! (and you know how I feel about D/s AU)

They've actually pulled me into other fandoms I don't think I would've gotten into otherwise -- most notably was a D/s AU Stargate Atlantis fic that pulled me into the NCIS fandom.

Fusions have done that too. Can't tell you how many fandoms I've fallen into because I love the concept of His Dark Materials enough to read an HDM fusion in almost any fandom.

I don't know that I've ever written a cross over fic, but I have one that is burning a hole inside my head and I just need to get the outline done so I can write the damn thing!

It's a... how do I describe it? a dystopic future with immortals who are forever locked into their very strict d/s dynamics? It's about their last piece.

That sounds weird and highbrow, but it's self indulgent and I love the thought of throwing in all my faves and seeing how they interact, and putting them in a reset 400 years in the future.

I really hope I can get it down on paper the way it feels in my head.

He could play forward on all of the other scenarios he hadn't wanted to explore, and he knew when that door opened it wasn't going to be Wufei. It was never going to be what he'd wanted, no matter hard he'd played at it back home with Wufei.

Written in response to a prompt on The Walking Dead kink meme:

Rick & Co. are finding it increasingly difficult to deal with Daryl's outbursts, his racist remarks, and easily-ignitable temper.  They are in fact, considering just cutting their losses and telling him he has to leave when they come across another group of survivors...one of whom is very, very special to Daryl.

AU in which Glenn and Daryl have been in a relationship for a few years before the ZA, and were separated when Atlanta was overrun.  Each think the other is dead, and Glenn ended up with a different group of survivors while Daryl ended up in the quarry camp.  Story also assumes Merle would've turned his back on Daryl for getting involved with Glenn, so they parted ways long ago.

Covers Seasons 1 and 2 and mostly follows the canon storyline.

This is hands down 100% my absolute favorite walking dead fic. It is so good I have read it so many times now. I seriously can not get enough of it.

15. A Hollywood producer tells you that they want to film just one of your fics. Which fic would you want it to be?

Well, I don't think of myself as a very cinematic writer, which maybe should have been something I considered before going to film school, so I don't know that any of my fics really lend themselves toward a film adaptation, even just for the sake of a thought experiment. The Avatar: the Last Airbender fusion is the one that would benefit the most from visuals (which was part of the reason I chose it for the big bang), but that feels a bit like cheating to say since it's based off a TV show. LA verse, maybe? I'd love to see them all actually play out in LA.

Oh wait, no, I forgot about the witch AU, witch AU for sure.

21. What is the one fic that got away?

Sorry, does anyone seriously have just one fic that got away? I've been writing fic for thirteen years and my start-to-finish ratio is shit, even if we limit it to fics that I really do regret that's still a fair amount. Plus I'm terrible at admitting when a fic isn't actually going to get written, I still keep thinking that one of these days I might finish that Star Trek: AOS fic I started back in 2010. It has some really funny parts, guys, I don’t want to be the only one who ever sees them.

Current procedure for TRC fics is, if I don't think there's any chance I'm going to finish a fic, I move it to the same file where I keep random plot bunnies and ideas for stories that aren't fleshed out enough to have their own document. I'm probably going to have to rethink that policy at some point, that file is now 53k words long and if I ever do want to go sifting through it for things to write it is going to be HARD TO FIND ANYTHING. Until that day this works fine, though, it's easier to retire a fic than to delete it.

But to pick one fic that got away, the one that made me the saddest to retire, and the one that I find myself sometimes going, "well, maybe I will write it someday," is a Stargate: Atlantis fusion where Adam enlists in the Air Force to get away from home, winds up in the Stargate program, and then has to deal with this terrible officer who never obeys orders but gets to go to space anyway because his genes make him really good at using magic alien tech. (John Sheppard is what you get if you smash Ronan and Declan into one person, you cannot change my mind on this.)

30. Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.

To be honest, if I can tell before I start writing it that a fic is going to be a longfic, I generally don't go through with writing it. That's why my fics all lie to me about how long they are going to be.

Excited for y'all to see my soulmate fic for this year's big bang, though. Spoiler alert it's as much about friendship as about romance, possibly more so.

For every person, there comes a moment, seemingly unimportant and inconsequential, that can forever change the rest of their lives.

For John Sheppard, this moment has always been just waiting for him. The question is whether or not he takes it, and how long he has until it finally gives up on him.

This one was inspired by the JJ x Reid plot twist in Criminal Minds (CM). I grew up watching CM, so it made perfect sense in my head to mix the shows together. It also seemed fitting, since post-series McShep looks to be heading towards a similar storyline with what happened to JJ and Reid. Sometimes, two people just aren’t going to end up together, feelings and regrets and longing notwithstanding :(

I just really had to practice writing Pining!John (and John voice). That’s it; no other excuse. I also wanted to see if I can write a first kiss between them that makes sense in my head, one that can happen organically. It ended up a little too melancholic for my taste, but I’m glad I got to put it down.

Rodney, it turns out, has never really learned to do anything the easy way.

This was really difficult to write, not only because doing Rodney POV requires so much brainpower and vocabulary (as opposed to John voice, which is an exercise in casual and practiced emotional restraint) but also because I wanted angst, but not too much, you know? (This was also when I noticed I tended to daydream about post-canon scenarios. Seriously, show. You ended way too soon.) I’m pretty happy with the result, though, even if it wasn’t exactly how I pictured it would be when I started it.

“Yeah?” There’s a serious note to Sheppard’s voice, prompting Rodney to turn and face him. Blinking slowly, he finds the other man’s gaze fixed on something just above Rodney’s left ear. When Sheppard speaks again, the sound comes out almost ominous. “Good.”

(Or: Rodney and John share a bottle of Athosian ruus wine, and talk about things they won’t remember in the morning.)

My favorite one-shot title! Also inspired by that sweet-but-gutting scene from Crash Landing On You, where the leads had a drinking session and allowed themselves to be honest under the guise of not being able to remember anything the next day. What can I say, I love angst. Nothing new.

I surprised myself with how quickly I wrote this. One sitting, about two hours tops. This was a fun little exercise for me, with the canon details I had to incorporate to make it realistic. Also pretty proud of the title ;)

Always wanted to do my own MCU fusion after reading Siria’s The Things We Did and Didn't Do. (Read it if you guys haven’t yet!) It’s going to be a series, with heavy emphasis on Rodney & Tony’s dynamic. So excited for the other installments and really bummed that I’m not as prolific a writer as some of y’all are. Alas, we work with what we have.

Stargate Oblivion (5/?) [ 10 April 2020 - present ]

Fifteen years after John Sheppard left Atlantis for good, the Stargate Program is finally ready to go public.

In the ensuing chaos, sixteen-year-old Paula Jane McKay is thrown in the middle of sinister plots, complicated loyalties, and old secrets that will force her to choose between her beloved city and the planet she has spent her whole life yearning for.

Ah, the fic that continues to eat my brain. I will finish this if it’s the last thing I do, I swear. It’s sort of a way for me to play with time jump, original characters, the restrictive nature of canon compliance, and what happens to soulmates after being apart for so long (to name a few elements). It’s basically a love story 20 years in the making that I only hope doesn’t take me just as long to write lol

Of course, my favorite accomplishment of the year: this little sideblog. The pandemic has been rough for everyone (unless you’re Jeff or Elon, and if you are, can you pls fund the Stargate reboot?), so I’m really just happy to spread good vibes all around. This has been my most active participation in any fandom, so I may be a little awkward when it comes to interacting with other people. Forgive me if I violate some well-established rules; I’m trying to educate myself along the way. I really am just perfectly happy to provide whatever content I can, and people’s comments/tags/messages are simply icing on the cake.
