Jacen’s descent to sithdom is not selling me. At the beginning of the book he still thought of himself as a Jedi but less than 200 pages in and he’s already accepted it. The lackluster self flaggelation about his reasoning is not doing it for me.
ALSO what happened to correllia’s PRIME MINISTER?? Since when is Thracken head of state?! It honestly feels like there’s a whole book missing between betrayal and bloodlines I’m confused af

It is very interesting to see Jacen Solo’s fall to the dark side and how he justifies it. How he sees how/why Anakin fell and goes “ well, I’m not doing it for one person, I’m doing what I need to save the galaxy.” How he believes that the old Jedi council failed to recognize Anakin’s power and how they should have made him a master and maybe if they did then Anakin might not have Fallen.
I don’t really like him but he is a very interesting and complex character

in legacy of the force: sacrifice, we see that removing one's boots before entering the house is a non-negotiable rule in the beviin-vasur household, including for fett.
this means that the majority of the scenes taking place in the farmhouse—including the most dramatic—must involve most of the mando characters (fett included) walking around in full armor and socks

@ithillia found me a goldmine here. I haven't read the Legacy of the Force yet but we can get a glimpse here how Boba saw Kal as a kid.
Tumblr media
If I remember correctly, Jango called him by Vau's recommendation but I have to reread that part.
Tumblr media
Jango: SKIRATA
Tumblr media
Rest of the Cuy'val Dar: how did he manage to do that...???
Vau: *reconsidering his life choices of recommending Kal*
Tumblr media
Kal Skirata. Smol and angy and able to piss off Jango Fett too.

I think Kal still haunts some of the kaminoans' dreams who dared to look at his children the wrong way. But according to Taun We's comment I have the feeling that sometimes they didn't have to give a reason. They just had to be kaminoans for that. Kal really hated them and found them all complicit in harming the clones regardless if they were actually involved in the research or not. Encountering Kina Ha is what starting change his mind about judging an entire race for the crime of the few.

Nulls: Hey, Bob'ika! No passing through this corridor unless you can answer this question.
Boba: [rolls eyes but answers anyway]
Nulls: [narrow eyes] IN MANDO'A.

In short (lol)
Kal is short. He always gives the impression of being angry. He doesn't fight fair - I mean, his specialty is assassination, intelligence gathering, and psychological warfare.
He is a menace.

Is it true that some of the Mandalorians in your LEGACY OF THE FORCE books are gay?
Yes.
Goran Beviin and Medrit Vasur are a gay couple. Homosexual men. Call it what you like, they're in a same-sex marriage.
Mandalorians are different colours, too. Black Mandos, brown Mandos, all kinds of Mandos. Some are from other species, not just humans. They're all ages, all types, and some of them are disabled. Because so many of them are soldiers, Mandos know all about dealing with disability.

Forgiveness and the Jedi
I think one of the things that often gets forgotten about in Star Wars, is that the Jedi way is to forgive people for their actions. No matter how bad things may have gotten the Jedi usually offer a chance for redemption.
I was re-reading Star Wars Legacy, which is a fantastic comic book which everyone interested in Star Wars legends should read. The force ghost of Kol Skywalker states perhaps one of my favorite quotes from the series.
> One of the greatest lessons of the light side, is forgiveness. Through it we find redemption.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Morrigan had abandoned her husband and child, and despite all this Kol, and eventually Cade were able to forgive her. The lesson of the Jedi is to hold no grudges. To be selfless is the Jedi way.
And even in perhaps the most egregious of actions, we still see the path of redemption offered. When Yoda confronts Dooku in the novel Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, he and Dooku speak at length about the nature of the dark side and more. But I’ll highlight this piece from Yoda.
> “The Count said, “I have gone too far down the dark path ever to return.”
> “Pfeh.” Yoda snapped his fingers. “The empty universe, where is it now? Alone are you, Count, and no one your master. Each instant the universe annihilates itself, and starts again.” He poked Dooku in the chest with his stick, hard. “Choose, and start again!”
And later Yoda adds:
> “Come,” Yoda said urgently. He put his hand once more on Dooku’s arm. “Catch you, I said I would. Believe you must: more forgiveness will you find from your old Master than from the new one.”
Forgiveness separates the Jedi from the Sith, in the end the Jedi are able to see people for more than their actions. To quote Obi-Wan, “Only a Sith deals in absolutes.” Jedi are more open minded than all that.

Ben Skywalker: You killed my mom?! Jacen Solo: Actually, I believe she died of natural causes. Lumiya: [nods] Knife to the neck. Ben Skywalker: How is that "natural causes"?! Jacen Solo: There's nothing more natural than dying from a knife to the neck. Lumiya: What would be UN-natural is if she survived.

Jacen Solo and I need to have a talk… when Yoda said to the effects of ‘the future is never certain’ he meant it. Jacen, you decided to kill a fellow Jedi, a previous student of yours no less, because you could only see futures in which Luke died should she live. That’s not ok my friend, we don’t commit murder on a maybe.
Ignoring Lumiya’s potential influence on his force visions at that moment, which I believe to be a very real possibility given she hid all of her Force activities on Toryaz station from an entire retinue of Jedi Masters, Jacen is ignoring that he’s only looking from that single point in time. There are many, many more chances to shape a different outcome, but to me it seems like Jacen is far too confident in his own abilities to even consider that. During the events on Lorrd, he only considered Nelani’s input after a strong talking to, and even then he ruthlessly made the final call irrespective of what his fellow Jedi thought. He never asked for Ben’s input either, despite having the opportunity for teaching moments. Jacen believes himself to be the best man for the job in whatever situation he’s in, and it leads him not to question his judgment ever. He eases his conscience by saying it was the answer he came to by trusting in the Force, just as Luke taught him to, but again, he never stops to question if his own biases are influencing his interpretation of the Force. Even when his colleagues (and betters) disagree with his interpretation, he dismisses them as not having the training he does and therefore, once again, he can’t be wrong. Lumiya plays to this during their debate in the end chapters, and succeeds magnificently.
So, Jacen, let’s step back a bit and take some chill pills, maybe take a ‘lil vacation to learn some humility, before you royally fuck your family and the galaxy up. Deal? Deal.
(there was no deal because the only currency in Star Wars is pain)
In general, I’m excited by the prophecy-type story element (very Star Wars) set by the beaded sculpture and I’m hopeful it’ll be subverted in an interesting and even more exciting way (very very Star Wars). Now that I have most of the books, this time I’m promising myself to actually finish the series.

Be careful Maladi, that you do not scheme for scheming's sake. Do not become so enamored of your plotting that you lose sight of your goal.

between both beviin and sintas, i feel like the defining arc of boba's relationships in legacy of the force is just
boba: you only put up with me because you don't know about all the terrible shit i've done. once you find out, you'll rightfully despise me for it. events: /transpire beviin and sintas: okay, well, we know all that now, and it changes nothing. we still care about and want to help you. boba: ...this is worse, somehow

To accompany my custom dolls of Jaina Solo and Darth Caedus, I drew this illustration of them. With this drawing, I wanted to show their opposition.
