#Stannis baratheon

Jon Snow have always been outspoken. From his very first appearance to his last, he always speaks his mind. So, while I was re reading his first meeting with Stannis, I noticed how, once again, he was bold enough to share this views and even disagree with the King.

During that scene, Jon wasn't Lord Commander, yet. He was still a bastard boy, a steward of the Night's Watch, who was accused to be a desserter. What is more, he was the brother of Robb Stark, who according to Stannis claims was an usurper. Someone else on Jon's place would simply agree with everything Stannis said to get on his good grades. But not Jon.

He starts his conversation with Stannis by correcting him when he calls him "Lord Snow"

"Rise. I have heard much and more of you, Lord Snow."

"I am no lord, sire." Jon rose.

When Stannis insults all the Lord Commander candidates, Jon jumps in to defend those he considers worthy to gain the title.

Stannis grimaced. "Noye made my first sword for me, and Robert's warhammer as well. Had the god seen fit to spare him, he would have made a better Lord Commander for your order than any of these fools who are squabbling over it now."

"Cotter Pyke and Ser Denys Mallister are no fools, sire," Jon said. "They're good men, and capable. Othell Yarwyck as well, in his own way. Lord Mormont trusted each of them."

Later on, as Jon corrects Stannis once again after calling him "Lord Snow" he even complains that Stannis didn't arrived on the Wall earlier.

"Words. Words are wind. Why do you think I abandoned Dragonstone and sailed to the Wall, Lord Snow?"

"I am no lord, sire. You came because we sent for you, I hope. Though I could not say why you took so long about it."

Another monarch would be irritated by Jon's boldness. However, Stannis who hates flattery actually takes a liking to the boy. He even smiles after Jon's comment I shared right above.

the thing about theon being taken as a prisoner to ensure balon’s good behaviour is if ned hadnt volunteered to ward him at winterfell theon could have had a much better time (being a louche scheming kings landing courtier after robert immediately forgets hes supposed to be a prisoner and just lets him do whatever) or a much worse time (foisted off on stannis and stuck on dragonstone with the worlds most miserable swingers)
