Day 62
I am having mixed feelings about this trip at this point. On the one hand, the beach is fantastic. The sun and the water minister to my soul. On the other, I have no strong leading to settle here. I had hoped that coming here would open some doors of opportunity for my next step, but we are coming to the end of the journey, and nothing has materialized.
I feel like a war-horse who is being kept in the stable. If I had a timeframe of how long this season would last, I could enjoy it a little more. My fear is that I’ve been sent to pasture and that this “season” is life. It’s been a little more than four months since I left my job a psychological wreck. I’ve been keeping busy with homeschool my social media channels, but I’m hitting a wall even there. I know my skills are growing, but seeing zero views on new videos means that not even my parents are watching. That’s humbling.
The little voice in my head says, “Give up. All of it is in vain. You’re done.” My New England heritage is to stubborn to quit, but that doesn’t mean I’m immune to the temptation. There is a proverb that goes, “He who goes out weeping, bearing the seeds for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” (Ps. 126:6) I guess I’m in the weeping stage.
We are currently in the town of General Luna—not a fan. Today’s mission is to find a rental vehicle so we can get to our next homestay far to the north. I’ve looked at two properties so far and priced them out at $104,364.00 (vacant lot) and $260,910.00 (developed with three well-designed cabins and a house). I can probably bring them both down, but even so it would take at least 10 years just to break even.
I’m glad we came so I can cross this off the list, but now I am looking at the future with only question marks as to what I should do. The motorbike rental places should be opening up soon so I need to get to it.
