Calacus Weekly Hit & Miss – Burnley FC & Golf Breakaway (& ESL)
Every Monday we look at the best and worst communicators in the sports world from the previous week.
HIT – BURNLEY FC
One of the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic has been the absence of fans from sporting events.
Lockdown has meant empty stadia with canned crowd noise piped in for television audiences only.
Premier League games have been behind closed doors since last December, when a handful of games had up to 2,000 fans in attendance before the UK went back into full lockdown.
Some pilot events, such as the Carabao Cup final at Wembley where Manchester City and Tottenham each had 2,000 fans in attendance, have since been held to test the safe return of spectators.
From 17 May, outdoor sports venues in England are due to be allowed up to 10,000 fans or 25% capacity, whichever figure is lower, with final UK government approval announced no later than 10 May.
The Premier League confirmed on Wednesday that no away supporters will be permitted to attend matches for the final two rounds of the 2020/21 season.
There has been criticism of some clubs, with Tottenham Hostpur charging up to £60 a ticket once fans can return.
But Burnley have taken the opposite approach, announcing plans to distribute free tickets to 3,500 fans for their final home game of the season against Liverpool on May 19.
The Clarets will make the ballot available to all supporters who have renewed their season tickets for next season, with successful applicants encouraged to make a donation to NHS Charities Together.
Chairman Alan Pace said: “This fixture is opportunity to reward our loyal season ticket holders who have shown incredible support to the club throughout the pandemic.
“We have therefore decided to make tickets for this fixture free of charge. If supporters are able to, the club is encouraging successful applications in the ballot to consider making a donation to the NHS charities.”
Burnley manager Sean Dyche certainly believes that having fans back will boost his team and football in general.
He added: ““It’s been a tough year for everyone and now it’s about ‘can we come out of it and move forward?’ To see football fans in a ground in my world and the football world be a really good sign of things getting back to normal.”
MISS – GOLF BREAKAWAY & ESL
No sooner has the dust settled on football’s Super League than some of the biggest names in golf are being tempted to join the ‘World Tour’ despite threats to ban them from the professional game.
Players including world No 1 Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose have been offered contracts worth up to $100m to take part in a breakaway event, and the authorities have been quick to warn those who take part.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monagan has told participants that they would face an instant suspension and a lifetime ban with The Daily Telegraph reporting that others who have been offered contracts include Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott and Rickie Fowler.
Backed by Saudi Arabian investors and fronted by Majed al-Sorour, the chief executive of Golf Saudi, the ‘World Tour’ would feature individual and team formats over 12 to 18 events with a suggested launch in September 2022.
European Tour chief executive, Keith Pelley, issued a statement condemning the proposals.
He said: “We are aligned with the PGA Tour in opposing, in the strongest possible terms, any proposal for an alternative golf league.
"Since the launch of our strategic alliance last November, our two organisations have been working together to make global golf less fractured and not create further division, with the interests of all players and fans at the forefront of our thinking."
Rory McIlroy, who chairs the Players Advisory Committee on the PGA Tour, also criticised the plans and believes the traditions of the game are being forgotten.
McIlroy commented: “It's a competitive threat. I don't think there's a better structure in place in golf, and I don't think there will be," McIlroy said.
"Go back to what happened last week in Europe with the European Super League in football. People can see it for what it is, which is a money grab, which is fine if what you're playing golf for is to make as much money as possible. Totally fine, then go and do that if that's what makes you happy.
"I'm playing this game to try to cement my place in history and my legacy and to win major championships and to win the biggest tournaments in the world.
“And the possibility is that people, if they do go in that direction, can't play in the biggest tournaments in the game? The game of golf, whether it's a right thing or a wrong thing, is so about history.
“If you move further away from that, you're basically losing the essence of what competitive golf is."
This story is going to run and run and it remains to be seen how strong the proposals really are, with the organisers yet to make an official statement.
Meanwhile, UEFA has made an other positive step to move on from the European Super League debacle by announcing fines for nine of the clubs that were involved in the breakaway.
In a statement UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: “I said at the Uefa congress two weeks ago that it takes a strong organisation to admit making a mistake, especially in these days of trial by social media. These clubs have done just that.
"In accepting their commitments and willingness to repair the disruption they caused, Uefa wants to put this chapter behind it and move forward in a positive spirit.
"These clubs recognised their mistakes quickly and have taken action to demonstrate their contrition and future commitment to European football.”
The nine clubs - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, plus AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid - have committed to the European governing body and its competitions and will make a combined 15m euros goodwill contribution to benefit children's and grassroots football across Europe.
They will also have 5% of UEFA competition revenues withheld for one season, starting in 2023-24, and this money will be redistributed, including in the UK.
However, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are set to face "appropriate action" under Uefa's disciplinary process.
Ceferin added: “The same cannot be said for the clubs that remain involved in the so-called Super League and Uefa will deal with those clubs subsequently."
Needless to say, those three powerhouses of European fooball, whose ambitious spending is clearly at the heart of their financial struggles, issued a defiant statement suggesting that they are being victimised for refusing to withdraw from the ESL project.
The joint statement read: “The founding clubs have suffered, and continue to suffer, unacceptable third-party pressures, threats, and offenses to abandon the project and therefore desist from their right and duty to provide solutions to the football ecosystem via concrete proposals and constructive dialogue.
“We would be highly irresponsible if, being aware of the needs and systemic crisis in the football sector, which led us to announce the Super League, we abandoned such mission to provide effective and sustainable answers to the existential questions that threaten the football industry.
“For the good of football and for the financial sustainability of the sector, we have the duty to act in a responsible manner and persevere in the pursuit of adequate solutions, despite the unacceptable and ongoing pressures and threats received from UEFA.”
Delusional is one word that comes to mind from the tone and content of the statement, criticising the governance of football and the other clubs that have now fallen back into line with no hint of regret or apology in sight.
It will be interesting to see what punishments UEFA hands out - three of the biggest clubs in football being banned from European club competitions for one season would certainly not be a surprise.

#Fifa 21 platforms upgrade
#Fifa 21 platforms code
#Fifa 21 platforms series
Since this game only supports a single platform. Due to crossplay, you can easily play with your friend who owns a different gaming console.īut unfortunately, in the case of FIFA 21, you won’t get any cross-platform support. Is FIFA 21 Cross-Platform in 2022?Īs we discussed earlier, having cross-platform support is essential for players to enjoy a game with their friends. Let’s find out the truth about this game. But when it comes to the multiplayer mode, the players wonder whether FIFA 21 is cross-platform or not? Cross-platform support is essential to ensure that users can play with their friends. However, you can also enjoy playing the multiplayer mode of this game. The major focus in this game is on the career mode in which players are allowed to take charge of their own football club.
#Fifa 21 platforms series
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia releases will come at a later date. Moreover, the game developers have drastically improvised the graphics, and the AI system added an enhanced football players database along with improved gameplay. FIFA 21 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. In the career mode of FIFA 21, you can explore different things such as you can transfer between the clubs, and you will also be able to manage the roster of youth teams that can play in the senior leagues. Overall, this game is a treat to watch, it is packed with some excellent quality graphics, and a strong career mode that consists of different new features as well. The game was released back on October 9, 2020, and currently, it is available for a number of gaming platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. This game was developed by EA sports and it was added to their latest FIFA series. Virtual FIFA will again do without cross-play.FIFA 21 is a popular game in the sports genre. In recent weeks, more information has emerged about the new version of the FIFA series. Unfortunately, one of them will not please fans of the football series. Well, Electronic Arts has confirmed that it is not planning to implement cross-play functions in the game FIFA 21. In other words, owners of PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X will only be able to play online with other users of the platform. In theory, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. So far, no installment of the cycle allowed for cross-platform play, just like the competitive PES. Create more scoring opportunities with all-new dynamic attacking systems in the most intelligent FIFA gameplay to date. FIFA 21 rewards you for your creativity and control all over the pitch. Summary: On the street and in the stadium, FIFA 21 has more ways to play than ever before. The EA SPORTS FIFA Tracker is a platform designed to give our players. Overwhelming dislike based on 642 Ratings.
#Fifa 21 platforms code
This was to be due to the differences in the code of individual editions. With FIFA 22 now live for EA Play members, we wanted to give you a heads up that. However, in the case of this year’s edition, the matter is complicated by the appearance of the ninth generation of stationary consoles. This is to happen during the holiday season (for XSX: November ), so after the debut of the new FIF. Therefore, some gamers were hoping that EA would decide to add cross-play functionality this time, especially as it is supported by many popular multiplayer titles.
#Fifa 21 platforms update
Hope was fueled by the announcement of a free update to the console versions of the game to be released on PS5 or XSX for players who will buy it on current Sony and Microsoft platforms.
#Fifa 21 platforms upgrade
This was enough for some to believe in the possibility of playing together with the owners of other devices, if only between PlayStation or Xbox users.Īs a consolation, the creators of FIFA 21 confirmed the possibility of transferring progress in FIFA Ultimate Team mode, if we decide to use the free game upgrade to a new version of the game from the same manufacturer (for example, from PS4 to PS5).

Wenger in firing line as Arsenal Togel Singaporefail to reinforce
Wenger in firing line as Arsenal Togel Singaporefail to reinforce
Wenger.Jason Cowley, author satta king of that memorable book about Arsenal and the end of the old First Division, 'The Last Game', has penned a pertinent take on the current dilemma for manager Arsene Wenger.
Starved of funds for reinforcements and with his best players Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri wanting to leave, the Frenchman's dream of an Ajax on the Thames looks to have stalled perhaps for good.
With no trophies for six seasons and prospects of a title Togel Singaporechallenge or Champions League success slim, Gunners supporters are increasingly questioning the status of their semi-iconic coach, who revolutionised English football's approach to management and took Arsenal from their historic Highbury home to a new stadium at Ashburton Grove.
All a far cry from '96 when Wenger left Nagoya Grampus Eight for London full of high-minded dreams of transforming a club and country's soccer culture.
Writing in the Evening Standard, Cowley opines,
"It's obvious, too, that what he once offered when he arrived in London in 1996 and what gave him such a competitive advantage - knowledge of sports science, new ideas about diet and the use of technologies such as Prozone to monitor and improve players' performances, and so on - is now routine.
Wenger the continental sophisticate once seemed like a very progressive and modern figure, part-boffin, part-romantic visionary. Now, more than ever, he is beginning to resemble a man out of time, one who has stayed too long in the same job and who is forced to look on, perplexed and anguished, as the game changes around him, and in ways he does not like and over which he has no control. This new season could test him to the very limit"
Premier League 2011/12 opening fixtures:

*ITALIAN STADIA LIKE PIZZERIAS? How times change. In Italia '90 we all marveled at Italy's football grounds like Milan's fortress-like San Siro, Turin's caverous Stadio delle Alpi, Bari's space-age San Nicola and Genoa's wonderfully quirky Luigi Ferraris, wishing we could have such soccer cathedrals at home.
Fast forward twenty years and the designs have stagnated and fallen below the quality of those in England, Germany and Spain.
Now with a slew of new grounds in France on the way in the build-up to Euro 2016, Italy is having to question its model of municipally-owned arena (also the norm in the USA), while other nations let their clubs own theirs.
"It's like theatres and restaurants," said AC Milan's vice-president Adriano Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport. "There are beautiful theatres and ugly ones, there are luxury restaurants and pizzerias. But without stadiums we can't do anything and without a new law we can't construct new stadiums."
* Brazilian legend Zico, who has coached Japan and Kashima Antlers amongst others, is set to ink a deal to coach Iraq.
*Former US coach Bob Bradley is in talks to become the national team coach of Egypt.
*Carlos Tevez is back in Manchester having failed to tie-up a transfer elsewhere and will be training with his supposed replacement and compatriot Sergio Aguero.
*Barcelona B starlet Thiago Alcantara, who shone in this summer's Euro U21 Championship in Denmark, is in Spain's senior squad for their friendly with Italy in Bari on Wednesday.
*"We are not touching now the Qatar World Cup" was Sepp Blatter's enigmatic response to a question about the timing of the 2022 competition. As it stands, it will take place in June in arenas air-conditioned to avoid the 40C heat.
*Tottenham Hotspur's ticket office was trashed in the violence which has engulfed parts of London for the past two nights. The trouble began with a police shooting of an armed man in Tottenham. The club is asking fans to use the internet instead.
The London 2012 Olympic football will be called 'The Albert' after the Cockney rhyming slang for ball - 'Albert Hall'.
*The UEFA Champions League playoff draw has been made: Arsenal v Udinese, Bayern Munich v Zurich, Lyon v Rubin Kazan, Villareal v Odense.

Ken Rosewall Arena, NSW
In the year 2000, the original Ken Rosewall Arena was unveiled to host Tennis for the Sydney Olympics. Almost two decades later, COX were appointed to transform the facility into a multipurpose outdoor covered arena.
Starting the project in 2018, the first upgrades to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre were complete prior to the 2020 inaugural ATP Cup, with a new cable-tension roof shading some of Tennis’ brightest stars with raving reviews. In addition to tennis, the venue will also be the home of the Super Netball competition in NSW.
“I feel very humbled to be here and see this great roof on this building. With the new facility here, with the new seats and roof – it’s going to be exciting for the spectators and I know there’ll be a lot of great matches,” Australian Tennis Legend, Ken Rosewall [speaking at the 2020 ATP Cup].
The new multipurpose outdoor arena includes an operable façade to enclose the arena for the Netball season, while providing an open, outdoor feel when raised in Tennis mode. The striking roof is an innovative cable-tension structure and PTFE fabric design, a first for stadia in Australia, designed by COX in collaboration with Arup and Fabritecture.
“It’s the first thing I noticed when I walked into the court. I have a lot of memories out here,” said Grigor Dimitrov, who reached the final of the Sydney ATP 250 in 2016. “I’m so excited to be here.”
The redeveloped arena features upsized videoboards that are configurable from the side stands in Tennis mode and suspended over the court in Netball mode. New anti-glare LED sports lighting was installed for high definition recording alongside a new sound system. Thermal comfort for spectators is provided with large air movers above the stands and bump in air coolers for the field of play during shoulder season Netball games.
“Although it was delivered on a tight timeline, this project held a certain energy about it that ensured that the client, our team, and our collaborators, surpassed all obstacles to deliver a phenomenal result.” COX Director, John Ferendinos.
The seats were replaced in order to improve user experience. Their colour scheme blends three shades of blue as part of a new wayfinding strategy and forms part of the arena’s new branding.
A key point for improving user experience was to redevelop wayfinding to facilitate access and identification for allocated seats. A new seat numbering system was introduced, reducing decision making for simpler seat purchase and identification.
“We are extremely pleased with the result of this landmark project. The new roof has provided a world class setting befitting the wildly successful and inaugural ATP Cup – our game-changing new event which has hosted the world’s best players in an extended summer of tennis in Australia. The venue will be a magnificent host for international and domestic netball competition as well as other exciting content from 2020 and beyond.” Lawrence Robertson, CEO Tennis NSW & General Manager, ATP Cup Sydney
In addition to work on the Arena, the project included improvements to the administration building, resulting in a more comfortable experience for sport players and media.
The upgrades to Ken Rosewall Arena and its surrounding precinct have breathed new life into the venue, all while respecting its Olympic and architectural legacy.

New Post has been published on https://toldnews.com/sports/xavi-feels-32-teams-better-for-world-cup/
Xavi feels 32 teams better for World Cup
MUMBAI: In the scorching 2pm heat of south Mumbai (32 degrees Celsius approx), 2010 World Cup winner, Xavi Hernandez, entered a dry mud ground in Colaba on Monday to play ball with some kids. He passed the ball around, offered a few tips to the young, enthusiastic listeners before walking off the field.
“It’s hot out there, isn’t it?” was the first question casually thrown at him. “Ah, it’s nothing. It’s hotter in Doha,” he quipped, adding, “I’m used to it now.” It’s no surprise there, as Xavi has been playing for Qatar’s Al-Sadd SC for the past four years in a deal that saw him become the ambassador for the 2022 Fifa World Cup to be held in the Gulf nation.
Off late, Fifa president Gianni Infantino has been campaigning in favour of the 2022 World Cup having 48 teams competing, 16 teams more than the current 32. Xavi though, thinks otherwise.
“A 32-team World Cup is better for the show, for spectators and even for the players. The competition won’t be too long. In my opinion, it will not be good,” the 39-year-old Spaniard, who was in the city as part of Qatar’s Generation Amazing programme, said. The foundation has tied up with a local NGO, Oscar Foundation, which helps kids from slum areas using football as a medium.
Xavi’s name was in the headlines on Sunday as Lionel Messi scored a stunning hat-trick in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Real Betis to record his 477th victory for the club, surpassing the playmaker’s record of 476. Xavi only had superlatives for the Argentine.
“Every day he is becoming a better player. He is unbelievable and in my opinion he is the best player, not in the moment, but in history. Every game he makes a difference, and he has been doing it for the past 12 years,” he said.
Mention Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol and Sergio Busquets, his teammates when Pep Guardiola was managing Barcelona, and Xavi’s face lights up.
“I love to pass, and that team we enjoyed a lot. We had that amazing generation. The fact that everybody still talks about that team makes me very proud,” he said.
A lot has changed for Xavi since leaving Barcelona in 2015 after winning four Champions League and eight La Liga titles. One aspect he had to get accustomed to, rather quickly, was playing in near-empty stadia. He says he’s enjoying his time there, though.
“It’s a new country just because of the World Cup. Everything’s changing in the country. The infrastructure they are building is going to be amazing. It’s incredible how a football World Cup can change a country so much,” he said.
Infrastructure aside, Qatar has done brilliantly on the football field, winning the Asian Cup this year in a telling fashion. Xavi said that they could compete with any national team now.
“Because I know them, I know that they have a very good generation of players. It started with the Aspire Academy in 2006. They have a project, which will not end in 2022, but the main objective is 2022. The Asian Cup win is a historic achievement but they are capable to win or do well in any competition,” he said.
Xavi seems to be enjoying his role as ambassador for the 2022 World Cup. It was evident in the way he humbly spoke to the youngsters, joked with them, clicked selfies and even broke a coconut (as part of a ground-breaking ceremony). He knows a lot about the Indian Super League (ISL) too. In fact, he was following the final held on Sunday in which Bengaluru FC beat FC Goa by a solitary goal.
“I know the coaches of both the teams very well as they worked in Barcelona,” he said referring to Sergio Lobera (Goa) and Carles Cuadrat (Bengaluru). “The ISL is improving. I know many Spaniards who play here and they say it’s good.”

Asante Kotoko appoints former Ghana FA scribe Dasoberi as new administrative and operations manager
Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko have announced the appointment of Emmanuel Dasoberi as the club's new administrative and operations manager, less than an hour after his resignation from the Ghana FA. Dasoberi is heading to Kumasi after ending his 10-year association with the Ghana FA. The CAF instructor has been handed the top job at Kotoko after a stellar administrative career over the past decade. The Porcupine Warriors have been quick to announce the appointment of the talented former Club Licensing Manager of the Ghana Football Association. Dasoberi is extremely popular within the football circles for his competence and efficiency. His decision to quit has come as a huge blow to football aficionados. Until his resignation, Dasoberi was the Club Licensing Manager of the Ghana Football Association. He was the Administrator at the Football Association’s Technical Centre at Prampram, then to the Premier League Board and also worked as Secretary to the Disciplinary Committee and Appeals Committee of the GFA. Football — India to host 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/football-india-to-host-2022-afc-womens-asian-cup/
Football — India to host 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup
India will host the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup. India was awarded the tournament by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s Women’s Committee here on Tuesday.
It was felt that India, which will also host the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup later this year, was best placed among the three bidders — Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan were the other competing candidates — to maximise the promotion of the women’s game.
The venues proposed by India — D.Y. Patil Stadium, Trans Stadia Arena and Fatorda Stadium — are also being used in the FIFA tournaments, the AFC said.
Best opportunities
AFC’s Women’s Committee chairperson Mahfuza Akhter Kiron said: “India offers the best opportunities to build the event commercially as well as increasing the value and India is also committed to developing the women’s game and while all three were strong bids, India stands out.”
The committee decided that the expanded AFC Women’s Asian Cup — from eight to 12 teams — will be played in three groups of four teams with a minimum of 25 matches with eight teams qualifying for the newly introduced quarterfinals.
The committee agreed that the minimum length of the competition would be 17 days and that the administration would be mandated to organise the relevant play-off matches depending on the AFC slots at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The tournament dates are likely to be in late October and early November 2022.

Big blow as talented licensing chief Dasoberi quits Ghana FA
The Ghana Football Association has been dealt a massive blow as talented Club Licensing Manager Emmanuel Dasoberi quits the federation. The 38-year-old tendered in his resignation on Monday after a distinguished 10-years of service to the association. It's unclear what prompted the latest decision, but its widely believed he left the job to take up a new responsibility at Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko. Opoku Nti wanted Emmanuel Dasoberi as permanent Asante Kotoko Administrative Manager
[caption id="attachment_683367" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Emmanuel Dasoberi[/caption] Former Asante Kotoko chairman Opoku Nti came close to appointing FIFA-trained Emmanuel Dasoberi as permanent administrator for the club during his tenure, GHANASoccernet.com understands. The club legend, who was in-charge of the club between 2013 and 2015, wanted to inject some professionalism in their administrative structures. But he was unsuccessful in his move to lure the graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in Sports Administration and Major Events Management. Nti was accused of running a school-boy management and criticized for his lack technical know-how which cost him his job. ''That's very true. It was a long battle. He wanted Kotoko to have a well resourced Administration,'' the now CAF Instructor and Stadium Inspector told GHANASoccernet.com ''But you know that I wasn't too certain and secondly two of my mentors did not allow it. ''Opoku Nti pushed hard. He assured me that he was going to convince Manhyia to make my position a non political one but I was still thinking about it before he left.'' It is been established that the absent of a professionally-run Kotoko secretariat is the cause of the club's mishaps.
