#saw similar but not quite this polls going around and thought this would be fun#honestly i probably have stacks of hobbies i forgot to list#also there are some overlaps like i use the magazines to make buttons as well as collages and zines#i have a bunch of pressed flowers i haven't really done anything with#not counting books or plants as hobbies here#the other main hobby is hoop which is. nonstackable lol. and also i don't have one at home#that's one of those things that's like I wouldn't say if I won the lottery but there would be signs...

“I’m not a goth”
I say to my kid while wearing a lace-up black blouse, black tiered ruffled skirt & black ankle boots, while handing her a stack of old Gothic Beauty magazines for inspiration by the skeleton in our front hall.
#I might be a goth#I have a huge stack of Gothic Beauty magazines#and a handful of Gothic Lolita Bibles too come to think of it#my first cosplay was Death of the Endless -- in 1990#and like half of my wardrobe is black but that make SENSE because everything goes with black#I just feel like a poser because I don't wear make up or dye my hair or go to clubs#I am and always have been a geek girl roleplaying gamer#a geek girl roleplaying gamer who dresses like a goth

Jason would be the type to use anything he can find as a bookmark.
At the same time he has a collection of fancy and normal bookmarks that he barely uses.
#like- you would walk into his house#and there would be a Jane Austen book with a loaded magazine shoved in the middle#(a magazine is the thing people put bullets in for guns)#although it also works for a normal magazine#he would use anything and everything#while having a stack of bookmarks 10 steps away#he would grab anything within arms reach that the book could close around#jason todd#red hood#dc#batgang#batfam#batfam shenanigans

Do you have any advice when it comes to finding references for your vintage work style-wise? Are there certain keywords or particular artists you look for?
It actually all sorta came about naturally for me since I grew up watching lots of old cartoons!
Things like Garfield, Schoolhouse Rock, and commercials animated by Hanna-Barbera definitely held a lot of visual inspiration for me. A good resource I found is old, print media. I find antique places sell old magazines and junk papers super cheap and I look for the ones with lots of illustrations! But Internet Archive has free scanned catalogs of old comics, books, magazines, cartoons, ect to peruse which is an invaluable source! Decades like the 60s, 70s, and 80s had cartoon styles that I really grew attached to, so try poking around those dacdes' for art inspiration! It's easy to get lost in it...
#talkin pasm#my bookshelf is like 80% old print media it is like candy to me#for any of you who frequent antique shops always stop and look through those dusty stacks of papers and magazines
