#StS: Pokemon AU

Eheheh yes!!! Yes!!!

Since you've posted the ✨lore✨I add here my impressions + some stuff I thought while reading the rambles since somehow my mind wandered off and started making theories. Some are questions for the worldbuilding bc I’m curious, some others are just chit chat.

Probably I need to update my knowledge a lil bit of the Pokémon Universe, but this is a start (haven’t checked much for this franchise after the Sun and Moon games).

Since Sanctuary is a region does it mean that the marine world is also part of it or it’s a completely different plase (same question for the Underworld)?

Like while I was reading, I imagined it as some sort of ancient underwater ruins on the coast but still in this region or somewhere in a small archipelago not so far, the mainland (still underwater). So, the main PC has to move around and explore, before learning of its existence.

Same for the Hades Arc that is… well… the Underworld. My best guess would be to put it somewhere underground since at one point my mind remembered of the Underground City of Naples. To explain it, there’s the city but you can get in this great network of tunnels, cavities that sort of follow the city on the surface, some parts are actually living spaces while others are actually catacombs (edgy vibe). It's a city under the city.

I don't know if you've already some ideas for the Shoko Route, but the first thing that came in my mind was for Katya to do the Silver-esque rival. From what I can recall from the manga, she and other 2 silver saints were sent to capture Saori. Can be linked or not to the Sanctuary’s League Corruption problem (Katya works for the Sanc. Then has some regrets or change of heart and change sides) but if you ever need to have a Ikki for the route, here you go.

For the other Saintias, I don’t know, since they never had anything, rivalry related like Seiya’s group had in the Galaxian Wars Arc? Mostly bc Shoko’s main goal is to save her sister and not to fight against the fake Pope like it was for the Bronze Saints (yeah in the manga there’s also the Saga moment but there’s all the Ares plot so uhm I don’t know if you want to do something with that). Maybe Mii, who is Saori’s personal maid can be the first friendly-rival with the excuse of wanting to test Shoko’s skills and determination to serve Athena?

I don't know why I got so interested in the Shoko Route, probably bc I really really liked the manga.

Regarding the BIG EVIL! Organizations ft. Poseidon and Hades, there isn’t really a lot to say here but just to be sure, those two already existed at the ND time and have always been pointed as scapegoat to draw attention away from the corruption problem or it’s something made up by the Elite Four for the occasion?

I picture in my head that the administration for the Sanc. League has always been problematic (the chairman position is often empty, or it passes a lot of time between a leader and another one, so in the meantime there’s a substitute so more problems with it as well etc.) but after Saga’s involvement and activities the whole thing just got so much worse they really needed somebody to blame for the general instability.

I haven’t watched Omega yet so there’s not a lot I can say with. I know I should be adding my silly comment on it but y'all have to wait until I have seen with my two globes of sight the Series U_U

At this point I’ve wrote enough. Time to get to the random comments section of the wall text where I write the stuff my mind thought while reading.

Shaka’s as a professional broadcaster needs a fanart. Does he help Saga’s with hiding the real situation of the Sanc. League as well or he just shoves it off (like he doesn’t talk abt it or, at least in public shows to have a neutral/positive opinion of it)?

Last thing, I can guess (?) that each Saint lives in a different city in the Region and the PC has to go to all of them in a precise order (zodiac wise) to get the badges. Like, you can’t go in Shaka’s city or asking him to battle you without first having obtained Aiolia’s badge (?).

StS x Pokemon AU brainstorming stuff

Now I'll have to publicly share some flow of thoughts rambles, I've been accumulating for an year now.

Bless @ectogusher for listening to my rambles, and @doodlingwren for busting my door open to finally share what I got.

Here's the main skeleton of this whole deal-

Sanctuary = Its own region. No new fakemons, but it's a sizeable piece of land that has gathered up a wide variety of various species found across the globe. This worldwide thing also influences the type of trainers and people from all over the world going there. If we were to touch on the subject of game mechanics: There would be most of them (Mega evolutions, terastalise, Dynamax even Paradox pokemon forms) further showing how mysterious and mythical this region is.

PC - Seiya / Shoko Rivals - Seiya -> The other bronze boys / Shoko ->The other saintias

With Ikki being the Silver-esque type of rival, meanwhile Shiryu/Hyoga/Shun all follow the same line of friendly rival archetype. I still haven't thought that far on the Shoko route.

Other prominent NPCs:

Professor Shion: Former gym leader, he was once offered the champion title but refused it. Claiming that his passion was in research and studies, rather than the battlefield. Due to stepping down from battles, his friendship/relationship with Dohko has strained over time. Shion is the one who brought Mu to Sanctuary down the line.

Schoolkid Kiki: Catching Tutorial NPC. He can be usually found at the Pokemon School in Mu's city. He will inherit Mu's mantle down the line. The pokemon he uses in the tutorial is a Noibat;

League Chairwoman Saori Kido - With Julien Solo and Hades coming in as other seemingly "investors" on the project

Gym leaders: Most of these guys' aces aren't fully evolved, bc they chose to keep them like that. Yadda yadda friendship boosting their favorites.

Mu: Sinnoh - Dragon - Dragonair

Aldebaran: Hoenn - Ground - Rhydon

Saga/Kanon: Alola - Water - Gyarados (Saga)/Kingdra (Kanon)

Deathmask: Kalos - Dark - Murkrow

Aiolia: Sanctuary (native) - Electric - Electabuzz

Shaka: Kanto - Psychic - Alakazam

Dohko: Johto - Fighting - Mienshao

Milo: Unova - Bug - Volcarona

Elite fours:

Aiolos: Sanctuary - Fire - Charizard

Shura: Galar - Steel - Metagross

Camus: Sinnoh - Ice - ? (Either Froslass or Glaceon)

Aphrodite: Paldea - Poison - Roserade

Champion - ??? (the plot twist is that: the PC wouldn't fight the 3rd gym leader, bc Saga was pretending to be the champion. When he really wasn't chosen or appointed to that position)

Evil organisations: They definetely do exist, and they are obviously tied to the aforementioned Julien and Hades figures. But I still haven't thought that far.

Worldbuilding notes:

Muvians are similar to draconids (introduced in ORAS), a small tribe that originates from Sinnoh and has some deep connections and bonds to dragon types. Which means, any muvian = dragon type specialist or in the very least owns one. Muvians are also meant to have a foot in aura sensitivity (see characters like Lucario, Riley, etc.);

Sanctuary's League has a rampant corruption problem, as seen by what I mentioned about Saga. The two evil organisations are basically being pitched against one another, as smokescreen for the real problem. Their current champ is this sort of "elusive" figure. There hasn't been a proper champion in a long time. And yet, according to paperwork and the system, it states that the role is currently filled by someone. Anyone that isn't tied to Saga's schemes is left in the shadows, even those that allegedly should be the closest to him (Aiolos for SURE has no clue of what's going on. He's probably hiding or declared missing in action during the events, and only shows up when the time comes to challenge the E4).

There's a small timeline:

ND folks (a good few years into the past) -> Classic folks -> Omega folks (+20 years into the future)

In ND's setting we see how odd and hapharzadly the League was instated in the region. Which sets up the perfect grounds for Saga to exploit down the line;

Shion and Dohko are recently turned gym leader here. Mu comes onto the picture a good few years after ND's events; In a way, since Tenma would be the PC here and Alone his rival. It could be the Red vs Blue type of ordeal.

In Omega we'd see how the League is trying to remedy its reputation & amend for Saga's schemes, with an entirely new set of gym leaders and League members. + Former league members can still be found and fought in the post game, Silver/Gold style.

Individual notes:

Mu - Obligatory pokemon Aldemu food

Mu used to own a Gible and Alde once owned a Trapinch, at some point they traded pokemon. So now, Alde has a Garchomp in his personal team and Mu has a Flygon;

Mu's battle team against young trainers has a Swablu, which is used as a messenger to carry mail exchanges between him and Alde;

Mu LOVES pokemon dolls and has a huge collection of it. In the post-game: PC can find Mu and Alde on a date at the region's big mall, with them looking at a shop's display window. Mu gets mad at PC for ruining his date, but would give out his pokegear number;

Aldebaran -

Aldebaran gym's city is also where the pokemon day-care can be found. He may not run it, but he often helps out the elderly couple currently in charge of it;

In the post-game: After adding Mu's re-match call number. Alde can ba found on the route between his and Mu's towns, he was on his way to take a meal for him, and he also shares with PC that they bought the doll in the end

Saga/Kanon -

PC doesn't really get to fight for the 3rd gym badge. Rather, it's simply handed out by Kanon, who approaches them to talk about how the leader hasn't been seen in so long;

Saga's "fall from grace" comes from a humiliating match against Aiolos, originally fighting for the E4 member promotion which he lost. Despite the clear type advantage;

It's left implied that these two were meant to be gym leaders, the matches would have been double battles.

Deathmask -

DM gym's city houses a Game corner (Casino) and a contest hall. First sighting of an E4 member is Aphrodite, who introduces PC to them;

DM is a sore loser AND has no qualms with cheating against his challengers, if it means he gets to maintain his "streak". In the battle against PC he would use an overleveled Crawdaunt;

In the post-game: PC will get a hint from Shaka's radio talkshow mentioning DM's whereabouts, in the city's underground game corner;

DM's strength is everything philosophy = DM's entire personal team consists of very strong dark types with some form of 4x weakness;

DM is well in kahoots with Saga's schemes;

Aiolia - TBA I haven't thought anything for him c':

Shaka -

Shaka gym's city is meant to be the largest and the most advanced one (Saffron and Goldenrod cities style), it has the region's largest shop for expensive and important items. It also has a radio tower, which broadcasts various programs (professor talk, loterry ticket, poke flute, etc), Shaka hosts a talk show where he commentates on PC's progress, all while actively putting down/poking fun at his defeated colleagues. Under specific time slots, he will have a guest join him, which will be an exchange between the various league's members. But the most important one is where he will be joined by the region's "champion";

Shaka is a fan-favorite across several trainers in the region, with many NPCs commentating how much they love tuning in to hear him talk & so on;

Shaka is also well known for his psychci prowess (Sabrina style);

Shaka is also deeply involved in Saga's schemes;

Dohko -

Dohko gym's city also houses the pokéathlon. With Dohko going undefeated in all the challenges, until PC comes along;

Post-game: to get Dohko's number for rematches. PC has to visit Shion after obtaining a certain number of species then, take a mail key item to Dohko. And THEN they get Dohko's number. it's a love letter, an invitation for some tea at noon

Milo - TBA I haven't thought anything for him c':

I suppose this is a lot better than trying to find all my notes scattered around all over the place. Hope it makes sense or that in the very least, it's fun to read through.

RN I focused on the classic folks bc it's the one I've been working and thinking of for the longest time.

ND events brainstorming

Unlike the Classic's events, I didn't get to think a whole lot about ND as I'm writing this. So far, I only have a very rough idea of what it should be, and how it contributes to reaching where we are in the Classic's setting.

Aesthetic/Sprite-wise. I'd be following G/R/B/Y's look and rudimentary af sprites for ND. This is mostly a mental note for me, when I get around to working on them.

ND should take place at least 30-50 years before, the Classic's setting. There's a HUGE window of time between the settings which most certainly could explain:

People seemingly forgetting about Hades squad's antics in ND. Only older people genuinely seem to have a vivid memory of what happened, and the sense of "they must have been disbanded a long time ago, right?". This also means that Hades is indeed VERY old, but somehow maintains a mostly youthful look (dhermatologists hate this guy);

This also explains why in the classic's setting there is barely any acknowledgement to the previous GLs and E4 members, or even why PC never runs into them (they have either retired/moved out of Sanctuary);

The underground tunnels aren't that big, and they still retain its natural formations. They may connect a city to another dungeon/route but, nowhere NEAR the level that we observe in Classic's setting. It sure explains why it took Hades THIS long to conclude the tunnels and properly execute his plan;

It would also explain why the likes of Dohko could have obtained, seemingly ancient time's species (they used to be a lot more common way back then).

ND's setting is all about the introduction of the Pokemon League in Sanctuary's grounds. PC will be seeing how there's a lot of work that has yet to be done (some GLs have recently been assigned to their positions), and how it is still in its infancy. As well as how it became, the perfect breeding ground for the antics of an organisation like Hades'.

For Worldbuilding flavor, this also implies that a good chunk of cities we see in Classic either don't exist in ND. OR they are MUCH smaller and barren in comparison.

PC talk & notable NPCs

While in Classic's setting we had PC with a bunch of R2F characters (as well as its Shoko's route alternative). In ND, it's a lot more straightforward. With the only PC being Tenma, and his only friend rival that turns antagonistic in Alone. Tenma's story is there to illustrate how in a way, he became the poster boy to promote and boost the League's image to the public (in order to help it establish itself in Sanctuary).

I have talked in another post- and I'm bringing it here. Meanwhile, Alone's entire character is corrupted by taking on Hades' sponsorship deal. Thus, becoming another pawn in Hades' schemes;

Sasha wouldn't be a playable character. She is meant to be the Chairwoman, in charge of organising and running the League. But PC and her would often run into one another, throughout the journey.

Talking about Suikyo, he is still kinda of an enigma to me. I still haven't come up with something for him but, he could be a notable character from Hades' squad. He'd still have his connections to Shion and Dohko so, his role could be to further illustrate Hades' coersion abilities, and how trainers would willingly join his organisation.

Odysseus takes on many roles at the same time, given the early stages the League finds itself. He isn't a professor per se, BUT PC would for sure get their starter pokemon from him. Odysseus also fills the role of a placeholder champion, until he is officially beaten by Alone, crowning him as the champion (that will be shortly after be defeated by PC). Odysseus is also the NPC that will take PC to be registered on the Hall of Fame.

Now the fun stuff in League members talk

The order wouldn't be the same one, we see in Classic's setting. I'm sacrificing the zodiacal order, if it means we get to highlight the most notable ND golds <3.

Cardinale: Kalos - Grass - Tsareena

Ox: Kanto - Normal - Taurus

Shion: Sinnoh - Dragon - Salamence

Mystoria: Hoenn - Water - Walrein

Izo: Sinnoh - Rock - Kleavor

Abel & Kain: Unova - Psychic - Gothitelle / Espathra

PC wouldn't really get to fight Odysseus so, his ace pokemon is kinda of up in the air to what it would be. I also feel like that he wouldn't have a type specialty. BUT it would probably either be Hisuian Braviary, OR Ursaluna.

Steve and a vespiquen.

"Vespiquen will destroy and feed on any outsiders it catches sneaking into its hive. However, if outsiders prove themselves to a Vespiquen by defending its hive, it may repay these acts of kindness with a reward."

Steve getting accidentally adopted into a vespiquen's hive, and the rest of the fruity four (and maybe Angelface) have to come looking for him, only to find him swarmed by combee and the vespiquen nuzzling him.

"Steve! What the hell happened?!"

"I-uh.... scared away a couple fearow from some of the combee, and now the vespiquen won't let me leave?"

"Only you, Harrington. Only you."

"Please help, she keeps trying to feed me honey."

OK BUT THIS IS SO CUTE. you and your partners have to go rescue your poor, himbo boyfriend completely swarmed in Combee, and even when you gently pat them away and reach out to take his hand, the Vespiquen starts buzzing and threatening you all from over Steve's shoulder. nervous that she might call over some Beedrill to chase you away, you end up hurriedly holding out your arm to her so she can get a whiff of the scent on your sleeves--and when she recognizes it as some of Steve's cologne from when you'd been cuddling earlier, she backs down and you can all breathe a sigh of relief. even so, Steve feels a little bad since she seems pretty attached, so he asks the pokemon if she wants to come along--a Vespiquen wouldn't be a bad addition to the house at all! but instead of leaving her hive, the pokemon zips off into her nest and comes back with a pokemon egg instead that she insists on giving him. needless to say, Steve is shocked and very touched when he nurtures it into hatching, and finds an adorable female Combee inside! what luck!

Stranger Things Pokemon Things

Nancy has always been stubborn, “head strong”, and told it’s not a good thing. One thing she has never felt insecure about is her pokemon. They’re her team, her babies, her backbone, her partners. Nobody is going to make them feel upset about her being their trainer. Ghost pokemon are strong, varied in talents, and beneficial to a young woman’s dating life.

There’s many more personal reasons Nancy has a team of entirely Ghost types (with some doubles), but the main one is that together they can feel in control. She never forces them to do anything, and they try not to inconvenience her despite sometimes needing to be treated like pets.

Steve likes Fighting types. He tends to attract the attention of many pokemon, but Fighting type pokemon make him feel stronger than he is. On his team he has some “surprising” ones, but that won’t stop him from loving his pokemon with his whole heart. It doesn’t matter to him if they have a primary or secondary type besides Fighting, they make him happy and he loves caring for them.

There was a brief time where Steve was struggling to maintain a team due to his insecurity in himself. It didn’t go terribly, because he always made sure the pokemon knew it was his own problems, not them. Those few who got away seem to enjoy the times they run into eachother again, wild or newly tamed.

So it's come to my attention that despite the page I have set up within the desktop version of my blog, I don't have a mobile version of an introduction post here. Oops! This one's newly written, too, in a different format than the other.

So, that being said - Hello!

I am Nikki/Niko (Whichever you prefer!) and I am a 27-year old Genderfluid artist person (My birthday is on January 9th!). I don't think there's too much to be said here, but I can and will say with confidence that this blog has been, especially in the last few or so years built up to be a catch-all for whatever I deem good to reblog or post (All of which typically related to fluff stuff, feel-good vibes or something that I may feel strongly about).

This place is, and always will be a safe space for a) People with disabilities (I am autistic, have ADD and Bipolar as well as Anxiety) and b) LGBTQ+-identifying people (I am, as mentioned before Genderfluid, and I'm Pansexual Panromantic!).

If a reblog or post makes you uncomfortable, then I will happily delete it if asked.

I make it a point to keep these posts SFW especially nowadays - however, I can't quite vouch for possibly the oldest of my posts (as I've been here since the early 2010s along with some ol' dumb teen thoughts involved and it'd take forever to sort absolutely everything out from over a decade ago at this point). I'm pretty sure that I've removed most of the NSFW stuff already from those years ago, but if I missed something then I don't mind deleting it as long as you let me know first (I'm incredibly disorganized and would appreciate a nudge in the right direction).

With these details out of the way - I am an artist that dabbles in various fandoms with no real sense of rhyme or reason outside of either hyperfixated interest or otherwise with the intent to update old ideas and refresh them into new ones. Like most artists on the internet, I ask that you do not repost without credit, trace and/or copy my work. I'm quite literally living paycheck by paycheck with my family right now. You CAN however use my artwork as a reference or as inspiration for your own work - If you do, lemme know! I'd love to see the result!

Persona 3, 4 and 5 (This one's a lil self-explanatory but I have AU ideas surrounding these games that I want to make more art for eventually)

C: Please keep in mind that although I dabble in these fandoms, AU versions of existing characters may be changed in terms of sexuality, personality etc to reflect the AU they are from (For example, I have a version of Cream Unicorn Cookie that uses he/they pronouns, and my Redeemed!Pomegranate Cookie from the same AU leans bisexual over lesbian for reasons relating to reflection of character and overall character development. I like to make characters more flexible while self-indulging, so keep this in mind). I note this because my own headcanons about certain characters have set off one or two people in the past unintentionally and they VERY much have pushed things in an effort to keep canon down my throat out of retaliation. Let's just say that this part in particular is a thing that taps a sore spot for me for personal reasons. :/

When it concerns making art of my characters - surprise or not, feel free to make art of them and mention me in post (and/or message me, either way works)! It makes me feel SO loved when I get art from others, and I appreciate every piece dearly. 💜💜💜 (I go so far as to hold onto an archive of art that was done for me - with artist names in-tact within the file name nowadays!)

A few things to consider when it concerns tickling-related matters with me:

I am a Switch! I'm unsure how far Ler or Lee I am just yet, but I do enjoy tickling both ways. Unfortunately, however, I'm the kind of person that practically flies across a room when poked,, (if it comes down to tickling my sona - Niko Spirata - tie or hold 'em down if you want to wreck 'em with tickles lol)

My interest in tickling alone is purely SFW - It feels too weird looking at IRL photos/videos with very rare exception (a lot of the exception is the giggle the lee produces from ticklish contact). As a result, all the stuff I'll be reblogging and posting here is art or animation-related instead!

My favorite tickle trope is the one where a shrunken someone or a small something wiggles under the unwitting lee's clothing to tickle them! (Points at wormonastriing's Squirmles as an example of this trope :3) No, seriously. If I end up with art of any of my characters getting destroyed with tickles in this manner I will ASCEND BEYOND GALAXIES.

My favorite spots with tickling overall are belly, side and rib tickling - on rarer occasions, I enjoy tickling in other places (I prefer foot tickling if the lee has paws instead of normal feet!). This lines up with a particular enjoyment of characters being slightly chubby! I looove a good squeeze of the sides or belly, enough to get the lee blurting out giggles.

ok so sometimes i’ll subscribe to the slumber podcast patreon bc. honestly i think they’re more enjoyable together when they’re being boring and talking about mundane shit. but one of the times i wasn’t, i see this on the podcast twitter

and me <- fic writer with morbid interest wanted to see what the fuss was all about because:

travis is writing a fic about his very real and personal friends

travis is writing a fic about his very real and personal friends’ to the theming of the album (that’s supposed to be) about religious guilt and sexuality that as far as i know, said writer of said album has not discussed with him because of the nature of it

this was set in travis’ knockoff pokemon au he sells books of on amazon (i don’t think awsten has read any of his books including this one)

on top of that when i open the first chapter, he says he wants to post this to ao3 when it’s done. i want to punt him to a wall until he goes splat like a cartoon before he’s able to do that.

ok so this is where the terror starts for real. there’s only 5 chapters up so far but each chapter is supposed to correspond with a track on intellectual property (which is 11 tracks….)

so we start on chapter 1: ST*RFUCKER

in this chapter, awsten goes back home from his pop star life in whatever in universe equivalent to la travis has and back to the in universe equivalent to houston while he muses on a recent falling out with some oc travis also made up named ash.

oh did i mention im pretty sure travis made everyone gay in this. bc he did. travis made everyone gay in this.

and here’s when i start to see some of the notes other friends have made about travis’ writing from reading his other books. it’s almost like…too travis than anyone he’s trying to write lol. it feels like i’m just reading travis self projecting more than writing the thoughts of another character (who is. his irl friend)

so awsten gets reacquainted with his parents who are loving but just don’t Understand him and his big city habits and clothes now but it’s fine.

oh and travis made jawn and awsten have a past hookup in this. did i mention that bc he made that a thing.

the chapter ends with awsten not getting a text back from ash and getting pissed at it in his childhood bedroom.

and that brings us to chapter 2: real super dark

travis starts this with awsten having a post coital convo with ash and flashes forward to the present where ash won’t text him back.

as awsten is mourning this, he starts thinking about how at least he never wrote a song about him and travis makes awsten muse on the ciara situation but replaces her with a guy literally called NAMELESS.

normal things to write about your irl friend hahahahaha <- i’m starting to lose my mind but know this isn’t the worst of it.

after this is the part where travis texts awsten to come to a party at his place and it becomes very apparent how much travis has fucked with his own self characterization LOL.

here, travis characterizes himself as an avid drinker and party boy that awsten begged to go to the in universe equivalent of la with him, but travis stood his ground and stayed back home. in real life, i think travis is like a sentient piece of white bread and the general coolness of a high school anime club. also i feel like awsten ignores travis sometimes for his other friends. sorry travis.

when it hits me again that this is something i paid $5 for and this is a guy writing incredibly self indulgent and personal fic that is too self indulgent and personal to be a joke, i stop to ask a discord server of friends if this is insane (they agree it is) and continue on.

in the end, awsten flashes back to another post coital moment with ash before he’s supposed to leave and i have to read the implications of awsten banging the oc travis made up again.

that was kind of a nightmare just from the bare bones of it right? it gets worse. it gets so much worse.

here comes chapter 3: funeral gray (he spelled it like that bc fuck british spelling we’re in the us of a 🦅🦅🦅🦅)

so awsten is at travis’ place which is kind of a shithole and i assume travis starts projecting about his own neighborhood through fic!travis for like a paragraph.

the party sucks and awsten isn’t really around any of his friends so he goes to leave but notices some guy in a gray sweater outside doing the in universe equivalent of filling up his pokédex with one of the creatures under someone’s car.

then after that we have to have this bit of dialogue that reaffirms to be that this song’s lyrics taken literally is probably the most annoying conversation ever.

awsten introduces himself to the guy, who immediately clocks him as a pop star he’s heard on the radio.

then travis ruins the moment by showing up drunk and telling awsten to come back in, where jawn is there and it’s not that awkward for them to hang out despite their weird hookup.

they try catching awsten up with local gossip while making themselves out to a fire pit and awstens still trying to find out who the guy he met with the sweater was. by pure coincidence, the sweater guy is outside having a smoke and awsten is crushing hard like an idiot and then we get the reveal that sweater guy is geoff.

yep. we just got gawstened.

now here you might ask, “oh the friend groups all there where’s otto?”. he is literally not in this. at all. i assume there’s a lot of reasons he’s not in this (he’s not close enough to otto, he doesn’t know enough about him in general, possible jealousy on travis’ part on. things?) but either way. he’s not in this shit at all which i find to be a mercy to otto but also. rather interesting. hm.

Papa Meowth Pokemon Teams: Kanto/Orange Islands Edition

I said I'd do it. I'm lumping in the Orange Islands because there's very few catches there, either in canon or in the AU. There's a couple that are minor spoilers for the changes I'm making to the Movies, but they're pretty minor changes, especially in comparison to Johto where thing's really start going off the rails, so it's no big deal.

Because fuck Season 1's "all the strong Pokemon are released or disobedient" policy)

Oddish (Gets caught via a battle a little after they leave AJ (that guy with the Sandshrew from Path to the Pokemon League). As much as she likes the group, the chaos that follows them everywhere is ultimately too overwhelming for her and she willingly gets traded at the St. Anne trainer cruise before everything goes pear-shaped. she does give a good showing at Vermilion Gym as a nice sendoff though.)

She evolves during the battle with Erica (Ash doesn't get banned in this timeline but does still dress as Ashley. She mainly fights by unfurling her hair and turning it into various constructs, helped by using Growth to give herself more material to work with, alongside a frankly absurd level of Move variety)

...Okay let me explain.

You know how I keep mentioning the whole thing with Squirtle Abilities getting scrambled as a side-effect of the space-time continuum nearly collapsing? That wasn't the only side effect. There's also cracks still present in it that are leaking Information and Energy and Spirit into the Pokemon universe, which is the damage that Arceus has been working to fix ever since the incident happened. They don't mind the stuff that's coming through the cracks, but the cracks themselves are absolutely a problem. This is entirely an excuse for crossover characters like Bill!Magnemite and Timmy.

In terms of who Timmy is in this universe, he's a trainer who started a couple months before Ash, and is working towards becoming Kanto's very first Fairy-Type Gym Leader. He's a reoccurring character, but not part of the main group. They first meet him during the Mt. Moon Incident.

Now on to his Pokemon:

Cosmo (Ralts>Kirlia) (Timmy's Starter. Revealed to have evolved during Mewtwo Strikes Back (he's there because one of his friends has a Venusaur and was invited) He's just as overpowered and dumb as you'd expect.)

Wanda (Jigglypuff>Wigglytuff) (Caught before Timmy's debut. revealed to have evolved during The Ninja Poke-Showdown because his friend with the Venusaur (I'm probably gonna go with Tootie) is a student at Koga's Gym)

Brick (Clefairy>Clefable) (Caught at the same time as Maria's Clefairy. Revealed to have evolved during Clefairy Tales)

Trample (Tauros) (Caught at some point before The Flame Pokemon-athon)

Really good question!!

In the games Dragon types are often described as mystical like creatures (it's not a coincidence that until the introduction of Fairy types, the dragon type was heavily attached to Legendary pokemon). They are wielded only by highly skilled trainers (E4 member Drake/Drasna, Champion Cynthia), or by characters that have some cultural/historical/long running connection to Dragon types (See Lance and Clair coming from the same clan seen in Blackthorn city, the Draconids tribe with its connection to Rayquaza in Hoenn, Drayden and Iris being the ones well in the know about the Legend surrounding Reshiram and Zekrom, amongst many others).

With that in mind, I felt like it was the most suitable type for muvians. You're correct in Fairy types also being a possibility. But, the Dragon type has a different kind of worldbuilding that I felt like, fit them better. I never considered Psychic types for them, because of the overlap with Shaka.

The tribe's location is also VERY important and relevant. Muvians originate from Sinnoh, and region that carries a heavy theme of history, and ancient times for the pokemon world. Even though, there only being only one native, dragon type species in the Garchomp line (which makes sense, because it's the coldest region we have seen thus far). The tribe is also located somewhere within Mt. Coronet which would also ensure that, not everyone is even aware of their existence.

Now, here's another sacrifice from Sts lore I have to make. Because, outside of Az, who is like that due to the effects of the weird weapon he used in a war that's explained in the XY games, we don't really have any immortal beings. So that means, Alde and Mu can grow old & happily together and I wont be sobbing over it Muvians in this AU are mostly common humans.

Mostly, because I also mentioned they also should have a foot in Aura reading and use. A concept that was introduced in Sinnoh, by the likes of Riley and the Lucario line (it really wasn't expanded on the games, but the anime and manga had a field trip with it). So, through that, Mu retains a form of telekinesis and telepathy. It's this ability that ensures muvians close connection, to dragon types.

Taking mental notes to draw Shion soothing down a Kommo-o/Mu soothing down a Roaring Moon/Kiki soothing down a Draconzolt.

Eddie started raising it as a Zubat when he was young, after finding it wounded and collapsed in the mud and rain outside the trailer. He tried to release it so it could be free once it was healthy, but it stuck around and has since evolved into one of the strongest pokemon on his team. It loves Eddie to death and can be surprisingly clingy, but it becomes aggressive when it senses ill intent directed at its trainer. Despite being a bigger pokemon, it's the one that accompanies him out of its ball the most often, and it likes to sleep in his bed when he lets it since they always used to do so when they were both much smaller.

Aegislash

Eddie didn't so much choose this pokemon as it chose him. It just kind of floated up to him while he was out in the woods one day, and when he got jumped for his drugs a few minutes later it defended him, and allowed him to capture it and take it along after it had vanquished his enemies. It usually stays in its ball unless Eddie takes it out, but occasionally it will join in on his D&D sessions to act as a sword and shield when Eddie's performing as some grand NPC or BBEG. It generally has little presence otherwise however, and tends to creep out anyone he has over if he doesn't warn them about it first–it's scared his friends before who thought it was just a decoration hanging on the wall.

Obstagoon

It loves being onstage with Eddie and his other pokemon, and will belt out its explosive screeches to echo the guitar solos that Eddie shreds out. When Eddie's other pokemon get rowdy or out of control, or when there's a wild pokemon causing trouble, Obstagoon will skillfully taunt the troublemaker and draw it into a battle to calm it down. However, this also means that it's very likely to get into battles with both pokemon and humans if they go after its trainer, which usually results in Eddie having to call it back to keep it from getting him arrested. It's a great bodyguard for his shows, though, just by its appearance alone.

Toxtricity (low key)

It's one of the two pokemon that often join him onstage when he's performing, although Toxtricity plays more of a musical role as it strums the violet-coloured organs on its chest to let out bass-like riffs, along with violent sparks of electricity that make the performance look even more punk. It can be a little uppity since it's not a big fan of other pokemon, and it sometimes has trouble following commands when it's in a bad mood, so it gets into scuffles with his other pokemon more often than usual. But, like the rest of Eddie's team, it likes his music a lot–so as long as he practices the guitar for them and plays some tunes here and there, it can be lulled into listening to him again.

Hydreigon

Having a pokemon like Hydreigon around certainly doesn't help Eddie's reputation, since the species is considered a bad omen and the pokemon itself is often feared for its violent and evil nature, but that really couldn't be further from the truth in this case. Living with Eddie during his tumultuous upbringing has turned what was once a timid Deino into a very protective, gentle-hearted Hydreigon. It still remembers having to stay quiet and practice hiding to avoid the wrath of Eddie's dad alongside the boy, and now it sees itself as a protector of not just Eddie, but all of his friends and all of Hawkins. If Eddie disappears for a long time and it doesn't know where he is, it panics, and will start going on a destructive rampage until it finds him safe and sound.

Grimmsnarl

To be honest, Eddie caught an Impidimp just cause he thought it was cute–and it looked lonely, like it needed a friend, even though it swiped his wallet when he bent down to pet it and he had to go chasing after it to get it back. He had no idea it would grow to be such a strong, beastly pokemon, but Eddie thinks it's metal and he considers it a good friend. And Grimmsnarl is definitely the one who gets along best with the other three's pokemon and with the kids, it's more amiable to following the others around to help them out or keep an eye on them, whereas its fellow team members tend to stick to Eddie's side.

Nancy

Mimikyu

Nancy found it hiding under her bed when she came home one day, and repaired its disguise with her sewing needle when she realized it had been torn up by some other pokemon. Since then, it’s come back several times to bring her gifts, like little stones or flowers, until she eventually took it on to her team to join her. It often helps her find things she's lost or misplaced, and brings over her keys when she forgets them–but despite being very affectionate and helpful to its trainer, it's never one to shy away from putting the fear of god into anyone it thinks might hurt her.

Vileplume

Nancy spent a lot of time training this pokemon, mostly because poison types can be difficult to keep under control, and because it can be a bit unruly when it's hungry or bored. But because of that, her Vileplume is quite well-behaved and mimics Nancy's mannerisms a lot, and often is the pokemon she has by her side when she's out and about. It not only keeps her garden fresh and healthy being a grass type, but also uses its Sleep Powder to help her and the other three get a better rest when they have night terrors. It's all around a helpful pokemon to have, and definitely not one to shy away from battle, either.

Sylveon

Having grown it from an Eevee, Sylveon is the one that's been with her the longest and has become a therapy pokemon of sorts as Nancy's grown up. It's been there for breakups, for Barb, for bad marks on tests and nightmares that wake her up in cold sweat, and it likes to take her for walks with its ribbons wrapped around her hand to calm her down when she's stressed out. Though it has a sweet nature, it still hasn't quite forgiven Steve for that time he broke her heart, and it sometimes nips at him or smacks him with its ribbons if it thinks he's being mean to her. But on the flipside, it's totally obsessed with Eddie and loves grooming his hair when he comes home from work.

Octillery

It's an obvious choice for her, and besides evaluating its sniping techniques, she and her Octillery also help each other with practice by having shooting competitions out in the backyard. Even if she's going somewhere where the environment won't be ideal, or the pokemon will be strong against it, it never wants to be left behind and will pester her to come along until she eventually gives in. It can be a bit of a menace if left to its own devices as well, and will climb up to the ceiling and dangle there by its suction pads to drop on unsuspecting prey when they walk past–although, one time it did so to Eddie, and Nancy had to spend an hour prying its sticky limbs off the poor guy's hair.

Machoke

People sometimes make fun of her for having such a flashy, muscly pokemon, since Machoke is usually one that teenage boys always end up wanting to train just to show off and look more manly. But it truly likes helping Nancy and she likes having it around, because knowing that it can use strength that she can't match puts her at ease–if she ever needs protection, or if she needs to protect her loved ones, then it won't have to lie solely on her own shoulders. It loves to help her train on her own too, and will let her use it as a punching bag to test her strength while encouraging her with its cries, before they do their daily exercises together.

Bisharp

It's definitely the most brutal on her pokemon team, and she lets it spar with Machoke or Steve's Lucario so it can get out some aggression now and again. If ever she needs to get information out of somebody or just try to intimidate them, Bisharp is the pokemon that will be at her side, staring down whoever it is until they grow terrified enough to give in. While it has a bad habit of trying to command her other pokemon, it recognizes her as the leader of the pack and can't be swayed to listen to anyone else but her. It collects its own metal shavings when it sharpens its blades to gift to her as a token of loyalty, and once she finds the right place to do it, she gets them melted down and reshaped to add modifications to her guns, which is honestly the highest compliment she could give to it.

Steve

Lucario

Steve got it as a gift from his parents when it was a freshly-hatched Riolu, but because it can sense auras and he has a problem with managing his stress, they didn't get along at first and just frustrated each other–plus, it didn't like how selfish and vain Steve became as he went through adolescence, too. After a while of trying to appeal to his new pokemon, though, it warmed up to him and is now more than happy to battle for him in its evolved form. The pokeball it stays in will start rattling uncontrollably if it hears sounds of a scuffle from inside, and if Steve doesn't reassure it that nothing's wrong, it'll spring out and Force Palm the nearest person--which, in the situations when the danger is benign, has certainly gotten him into trouble more than once. Better safe than sorry though, right?

Blissey

It started following him around when it was still a Chansey, because it could sense his pain and was insistent on giving him its egg in the hopes that it would make him feel better. Even if he wanted to, Steve wouldn’t be able to get rid of it, but he really does love its company and feeling like there’s always someone thinking about him and wanting to care for him. If it senses that he's got one of those dreaded headaches coming on, Blissey will rush to Steve's aid and rattle him with cries until he lays down, so it can start soothing him with a Heal Pulse to help it abate. Despite being a docile pokemon, it occasionally will throw itself into a battle if it feels that Steve is helpless to defend himself, and as a last resort will use its Healing Wish move to expend the rest of its strength to support him.

Lurantis

Both Lopunny and Lurantis fawn over their trainer, but Lurantis is the shyer of the two. It's very clingy around him and will follow close behind when he's at home, bugging him to groom it and tend to its petals to keep them glossy and colourful as it likes. It can be a bit of a hassle since it's so high-maintenance, but it produces its sweet-smelling aromas in tandem with Blissey's healing to relieve his headaches when he does it, plus it always gets chittery and happy when Steve takes care of it--it even nuzzles his face whenever he's down, and sprouts pretty flowers from its arms to gather them up and gift to him to cheer him up. It'll do so when he wants to give a bouquet to someone too, but it'll pout if whoever it is handles them too roughly.

Rampardos

With the help of his other pokemon, Steve managed to calm it down from rampaging around town, and decided to start training it for protection. Being owned by a trainer doesn't mean it's totally domesticated, however–when it gets fixated on something, like a perceived enemy or an obstacle, Steve's often having to throw himself between his pokemon and whatever it's trying to bash to keep it from destroying something, and often he has to do damage control when it gets into the heat of battle in public places. With all that said, though, it likes Steve a lot and would never (intentionally) hurt him, and it's a fantastic player in pokemon battles when it's listening to his commands.

Lopunny

His friends think he's a mother hen, but they have no idea how much his Lopunny mother hens him. It uses the fur it sheds to stuff into his shirt or jacket when it's cold outside, but when he keeps trying to duck away or pulls it out, Lopunny ends up gifting the fur to Robin so she can fashion scarves or mitts for him to keep his pokemon satisfied. And while most Lopunny are pretty timid, Steve's has a penchant for fighting when it feels its trainer is being threatened–even if it's something as benign as someone being rude to him. It likes to fix his hair while Lurantis straightens his clothes before he goes out, so the two of them can make sure their trainer looks stunning when he leaves the house!

Galvantula

Steve ended up with this one latching on to him too, all because he found a few Joltik huddled outside in the cold and brought them into Family Video to warm them up, and the parent Galvantula followed inside to make sure he took care of its babies. Now that they're all on their own, it stuck to Steve's side and keeps him company while he's working. Plus, it sometimes zaps the tense muscles in his neck, or back, or arms with a weak jolt of electricity to help him loosen up, with the guidance of Blissey to make sure it doesn't paralyze him by accident. And all that's in exchange for letting it curl up in his lap and sleep every so often, when it wants to cuddle or when it's cold.

Robin

Smeargle

It was the first pokemon she ever really trained, although she knew right away that not only was she inept at battling, but that Smeargle really wasn't a fan of it either. So it mostly just keeps her company rather than trains, and the two of them like to spend long afternoons tending to their hobbies; Robin gives it canvases to paint whatever it pleases while she crafts little bracelets or jewelery for fun, with some music playing in the background as they entertain themselves. It likes getting her critiques on its paintings, and will get noticeably excited when she compliments it–and equally as eager when she suggests a change, usually scurrying off right away to rub out the mistake and try her method instead.

Cloyster

What was once a laughably bad gift from Steve of a weak, doofy-looking Shellder has since become one of the few chosen battlers on Robin's team, one that has no qualms about getting into fights even though its trainer gets a little antsy when she has to battle. It gets cranky if it doesn't get enough time in the water, so she usually has to run a bath for it or let it putz around under the shower once or twice a week, but since she takes good care of it it's a very difficult pokemon to take down in a battle. Cloyster will willingly go up against pokemon with huge type advantages against it, and even if it loses, it'll bring down a Blizzard or an Avalanche just before it faints just to wreak havoc on the trainer that thought battling Robin would be an easy win.

Vanilluxe

It was initially the assisting pokemon at Scoops Ahoy when she and Steve worked there, but after Starcourt went up in flames it had nowhere to go, so Robin took ownership of it. Although Steve thought it was a crazy idea to keep a delicate-looking ice type like that inside her home, it's proven to thoroughly enjoy being helpful even at the expense of its own comfort–instead of hiding away in its ball in the summer months, it chooses to busy itself with cooling down the house so its trainer and her friends will be comfortable in the blazing heat. Even in milder temperatures it's usually floating around the house, looking for something to do while waiting to be called on for help, to which it'll excitedly zip through the halls with wild abandon to tend to whatever needs doing.

Mienshao

One would think that a Mienshao would despise a trainer who doesn't enjoy battle training, but this particular one practically forced its way onto Robin's team. Not only does it like her temperament, but it actually quite enjoys training her other pokemon in her stead–and her, to an extent. Robin's pokemon can often be seen out of their pokeballs, training outside under the guide of Mienshao with Robin nowhere to be seen, and learning new techniques and moves that end up surprising her whenever she battles. And if it sees or senses Robin struggling with something, it's prone to busting out of its pokeball unannounced and calmly coming to help her, whether by eliminating the danger or guiding her towards the smartest path.

Spinda

Robin couldn't help but take it on and care for it when a friend needed to rehome it, although watching it stumble around and having to pick up the tapes it knocks off the shelves at work is certainly a stress-inducer. Even so, it's quite the curious pokemon and has an intuition that's seldom matched, so she can usually trust its judgement when it meets someone that gives off bad vibes or if she's looking for something she can't find, cause Spinda will almost always end up stumbling across it. The only time it doesn't totter around is when it sits in Robin's lap, which it loves to do because she always ends up cuddling it like a stuffed animal when she needs to relax.

Chandelure

It's the newest addition to her team, because she stumbled upon it in the decrepit old Creel house. Although it had seemed frightening at the time, it took a liking to her and she ended up taking it with her to rescue it from getting involved with all the creepy shit in that place. Since then it's only tried to drain her soul once and the others a couple times, but with her Mienshao's help she's been able to domesticate it into curbing its lethality, and turning that energy towards being a guard dog of sorts for her home. It's grown to love scaring off potential intruders and defending the outer grounds–but it loves scaring the shit out of the kids and the rest of the fruity four when they come to the door even more.

Due to the 1999 timestamp, Pokémania is at its peak. Pedro 100% plays Pokémon and their favorite 'mon is Jolteon. Vosim keeps a Gameboy in his desk and plays Pokemon and Tetris in his downtime. His favorite 'mon is Alakazam.

Several characters have pets. Dee has Snowball of course. Bert also has his two rats, Cheezit and T-Rex. Vosim has a huge tank with 4 or 5 goldfish. Pedro has a pet frog and them and Voder both own a St. Bernard named Sparko. Sam (who is blind! never mentioned) has a service dog (undecided, maybe a retriever) named Zoltar. Dandy has a cockatiel named Daisy. There's a stray cat that keeps showing up on the stairwell outside Otto's apartment window because he fed them once. His cat now. Cider is allergic to cats and dogs.

Cider is the weirdo that gets up at 5 AM for a run before work everyday, eats really healthy (is basically pescatarian), keeps a very thorough day planner and owns a PDA. Nobody can take him seriously.

He's also still a furry. His fursona is a mouse named Melvin. He has been to Confurence.

Terminal is the mail carrier that is so happy to have the office on his route. Everyone is friends with him in some regard and he's a huge fruit. Should this be modern day, he would be an Instagram girlie.

Rotten works at a music store down the street from the town campus. Bert swings by pretty much every day after class. They met after Bert stopped in one day trying to buy some normie pop punk music and Rotten basically grabbed the tapes out of his hands and threw them in the trash before dragging him to the real punk section. He also slipped him a tape of his own demo album he'd been working on. Bert was instantly smitten.
