I KNOWWWW like Akutagawa's sacrifice being the push Atsushi needed to overcome his prejudices at last was something I always liked to dwell on but never would have dared to hope would have actually happened in canon. But now thanks to the last chapter it's become a real possibility, and I still can't believe it!!!!! If anything Atsushi being so immediate to believe Akuatagawa wouldn't hurt him is. Wow. Greatest character development in history like can you believe it??? Look at where they started look at where they are!!!!!! I'm staining the chapter with the tears falling from my eyes. The “sskk endless angst because Atsushi is going to see anything in Akutagawa beyond a ruthless monster” era is officially over love is real and it's stored in the way Atsushi says “Akutagawa! that being said, soukoku from Bungou stray dogs has been my OTP for years- the enemies/rivals, ex-partners, short/tall, bickering, anger issues, hate relationship but insane trust, mafia/detective dynamic just does it for me. not to mention how both of these characters are insanely well-written and can be appreciated by themselves, even tho they were literally created to complete eachother. (confirmed by author) (other ships i like from BSD are ranpoe, fyolai and sskk)

mizuena from Project Sekai is my favorite wlw pairing, again with the banter. but they deeply care for eachother, adore one another and just their dynamic as friends is wholesome. they understand eachother, help eachother grow and heal with truly inspiring stories. their relationship just feels real. (other pjsekai ships I rly like are ruikasa, anhane and akitoya.

xiaoven might be a very hated Genshin Impact ship but it has a chokehold on me.. the immortal demon/deity troupe is just immaculate. (some of my other ships are haikaveh, cynonari, eimiko, beiguang)

mitsukou from TBHK. they had me when Kou to wanted to die together with Mitsuba so they could live on together as spirirts.. such a platonic thing to want isn't it. all jokes aside, what they have is so precious. Mitsuba is a lonely guy but Kou is always there for him through it all. I'm also a sucker for the human/ghost dynamic.

simple answer. Dazai likes Akutagawa.

Dazai Osamu idolises Oda Sakunosuke. The reason why Beast is so terrifying is that Oda Sakunosuke becomes everything Dazai became in canon. He works in the ADA. He hides his previous career. He doesn't come to work on time. He's the unreliable mysterious guy Dazai is in canon.

And that's impossible. It should be impossible.

That is, if Oda was the one copying Dazai.

So that only leaves us with - Dazai copying Oda's plausible actions. I've seen this post about Dazai wearing tan and stripes to look like Oda. The reality, however, is much worse. He is, in a way, trying to become Oda and supplant Oda. He is a person who wants to be as good as Oda.

Beast is the culmination of that realisal that he can never be. So he makes up for what should've been because in the canon, he takes what should've been Oda's place, to him. Beast is his apology for living the life that he enjoyed living, because it was the life that never belonged to him.

Chuuya and Atsushi. Dazai keeps Chuuya by his side because Chuuya is the perfect person to take over the power gap he'll leave behind when he dies. He trusts Chuuya.

Atsushi, meanwhile. You can't honestly believe he keeps Atsushi in the mafia out of a desire to nurture him. He keeps him in the mafia because it is either that or keep Akutagawa in the mafia. He has to pit them against each other for sskk to work.

He actually actively chooses to let Akutagawa go live in the ADA. To redeem Akutagawa, in a way, by letting him train with Oda, whom he always believed would have been better to Akutagawa than he would have been. He chooses to give Akutagawa his happy ending because he mistreats him in canon.

Because Dazai is nothing if not fair, he undoes the hurt Akutagawa has suffered at his hands. Because Dazai is nothing if not drenched in guilt.

Because Dazai felt sorry for Akutagawa all along.

Because Dazai believes Akutagawa is better off without him.

Like, hey, he's suicidal. It's cause he believes he's worthless.

What absolutely gutted me about Bsd! Beast AU is that it actually convinced me that Dazai truly does not care about Akutagawa, as a person. In a universe where he has all the memories and knowledge of canon! Dazai, where the second-hand memories caused him to dedicate his entire life to creating a world for Oda to be happy in — and meanwhile, he went out of his way to get both Chuuya and Atsushi by his side, but he deliberately walked away from Akutagawa.

What is it about him that Dazai finds so lacking? What is it about him that Dazai sees no way of fixing, no way of helping, not worth nurturing?

I don't get it, and I don't accept it. I don't, because later on, Beast! Akutagawa was picked up by a kind, patient man who took care of him without conditions, without regard to any kind of outward value he could profit from.

Then, the Agency welcomes him, and suddenly, there are all these people around him that accept him– Tanizaki, who sympathizes with him. Kenji, who doesn't judge him. Kunikida, who believes in him.

And Oda, who cares. That's it- he simply cares, and that's enough.

That's all Akutagawa ever needed.
