Flora and fauna photos taken in this set are of: 1. A neat and alluring Ruff we enjoyed watching wade in fishtail lagoon, a bird I love and we were lucky to get brilliant views of it. 2 and 10. A lovely Lapwing which we enjoyed closely nearby the Ruff, delightful to see its reflection. 3. Stunning Curlew Sandpipers. I was amazed to see seven of these prepossessing, distinctive and charming waders in the corner of fishtail lagoon, my Mum spotted eight. Some of these elegant birds had a nice rusty brown front. This is a bird we always feel extremely lucky if we can just see one of once in a year, in some previous years like this one we've seen them multiple times at coastal sites but we'd never seen so many at once before. This was sensational, a big moment in my autumn migration and birding year. 4. A nice Roe Deer we and some nice people we got chatting to enjoyed seeing. 5. Some of my first sea aster of the year, a very pretty flower and a key one here at this time of year. 6. Ringed Plover behind a Black-headed Gull on fishtail lagoon, it was good to see decent numbers of these today. 7. One of a few nice young Shelducks we saw. 8. Soapwort, a unique flower I like seeing here. 9. Blackberries.

It was brilliant to be back here seeing a great amount of birds, waders and ducks really shining today. Other highlights included many Dunlins, Little Stint, Knot, Redshank, Curlew, Oystercatcher, a fair few Black-tailed Godwits, beautiful Teal and Shoveler and Eiders offshore. Little Egret, Grey Heron, Great Crested Grebes, Redshank, Great Black-backed Gull, Starling, Whitethroat, Linnet, Pied Wagtail and Meadow Pipit were other avian highlights. I also enjoyed seeing butterflies Comma, Peacock and Small Heath well and Migrant Hawker the dragonfly of the moment for me. It was good to see bee on bramble flower, mossy rose gall, creeping thistle, creeping cinquefoil, musk mallow, possibly spurry, wild carrot, dock, gorse covered in a spider's web I'm seeing these well of late, rose hips and hawthorn.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Chateau Montelena of Napa Valley changed how the world views California (and US) wines. Back in 2014 when I was studying to become a sommelier I had to write a paper, we were free to choose the subject as long as it had to do with wine (obviously...duh). So since I love my Cali wine, I chose the history of Napa Valley leading up the famous blind tasting in Paris 1976, AKA 1976 Judgement of Paris. Long story short, Steven Spurrier organized a blind wine tasting between California and French wines. Shockingly the Chateau Montelena chardonnay won the white wine category, beating some of Burgundy’s finest wines. Anyhoo, Chateau Montelena just became available here in Norway, though very limitedly - and I was so happy to finally taste one of their wines, their red Cabernet Sauvignon. Their infamous chardonnay who beat the french in 1976 is still on my bucket list - but now there is hope!

Comics I’ve Read in 2022 - Part 2

11. Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Volume 6 - The Malignant Truth by Spi Spurri and Rob Williams 

I’ve read some of the early adventures with Alice and the Doctor and enjoyed their team up immensely because I think having an older librarian tag along meant she could keep the Doctor in check. This truly was one of the darker Doctor Who comics I have read though because it was more violent and more vulgar in its language with certain characters. I definitely need to read some of the set up to this climax, but seeing the Doctor face off against a renegade faction of Daleks and a mind-controlled timelord with Alice saving the day may help since parts of this comic made the situation feel that more critical.

12. Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor - Time out of Mind by Jody Houser

Loved this because it was my first comic with Thirteen and Jody Houser captures her mannerisms, words, and overall personality perfectly. Plus getting to see the whole Fam again made me miss Ryan and Graham. I loved that this was piggybacking off the first New Years Special to show that travelling with the Doctor always means there is adventure after adventure, but this also showed just what a great TARDIS team the four of them were as they deciphered through false memories.

13. Doctor Who Comics Volume 1 - Alternating Current by Jody Houser

I was happy to read another story of Jody Houser’s working with the Thirteenth Doctor and thanks to Roberta Ingranata’s art they really bring her to life. This comic has Thirteen teaming up with Ten to help solve a Paradox from their last meeting. While I don’t mind the team up, I do wish more would come out with Thirteen and other Doctors just because it would be more interesting to see them interact. Especially since Ten gets so nauseatingly pining with this alternative universe Rose Tyler that its hard to read through. Still loved the take on a paradox world and thought that once again the Fam shined as a superior TARDIS Team.

14. Doctor Who - The Twelfth Doctor: Time Trials Vol 1 by George Mann and James Peaty 

I still miss Peter’s Doctor a lot because he did such a fabulous job. And I have read some of his comics in the past and loved them just like I did this one. Mainly because they do a great job of capturing his direct and to the point attitude towards saving the day while still showing off his fun and charismatic playful side. Getting to meet Hattie, a futuristic bass guitar player who apparently has traveled with him before, team up again and solve a mystery in 1970 was fun, especially when you got Hattie and Twelve to play their guitars and save the day. 

15. Doctor Who - The Twelfth Doctor Volume 1: Terrorformer by Robbie Morrison

I enjoyed this, but you can tell that this was written before they had a good grip of who Peter’s Doctor was. On the one hand it captures his straight to the point type of leadership and directness, but they overplay the eyebrows and the meanness. But Clara they had spot on, if not more reflective of her from season 9 rather than season 10. I also appreciated that we got to see her in action, fencing robots in her ski outfit. Too bad she got temporarily taken over by an ancient goddess, but at least the Doctor helps to save her.
