The Belladonne family has had it rough for the last couple of years. After the patriarch of the family passes away and their wealth with him, they are forced to move to a little cottage in Morrowhill.  Fortunately, they might have the chance to gain back what was lost. At least that's what the letter in the mysterious box says.  And all they have to do is play a game.

This version released for Spooktober VN Jam is considered a beta, and the full version will have "more characters, tasks and customisation". This story takes place in the world of the upcoming game Glassheart.

A short Dark Fantasy game made as a submission for the Spooktober 5th Annual Visual Novel Jam, being worked on during the month of September.

This game is set in an already existing universe, but can be experienced as a standalone story.

A Trick and a Treat: Dead Letters (and one other)

We're very excited today to release our entry in the 2023 Spooktober VN Jam, A Trick and a Treat: Dead Letters (and one other)! This is a short, free kinetic visual novel comprised of two short stories!

The first is a creepy little story called Dead Letters, where a man working in a post office opens a letter he was never meant to read and discovers something he shouldn't.

The second is a silly story called Vamp Me!, where a young college student named Jen returns home after a Halloween party to find an unexpected sight waiting for her.

Featuring character portraits by @alexidv, this VN is a bite-sized treat perfect for the Halloween season! We hope you give it a try and enjoy it!

Help navigate a sleep deprived student through USC where danger, exams and the soul crushing weight of simply being a university student are around every corner.  Oh, and there's zombies.​ The University of Scorpius-Centaurus is holding a big Halloween party where everyone on campus is invited and you DO NOT want to go. If there's anything more horrifying than being in close proximity to a bunch of strangers, it's having a big exam right after Halloween.

Midwinter Update - Burdock is now Voiced!

I hope you all are keeping warm and well! After having such a lovely time working with the actors on Tell It Slant for this year's Spooktober jam, I spoke with Remnantation and the wonderful EeeCee and decided it was worth revisiting Burdock as well.

I am once again making a devlog to announce a few updates for the game! I have completely revamped the UI to be something far more unique and nice to look.

Last month myself and some friends, including @diademscales made a visual novel for the Spooktober game jam! It's a horror anthology, and we'd all super appreciate people checking it out! I did the anthology stories' sprite work and wrote the frame narrative alongside the third story in the game! I hope everyone has fun with it!

About

A lone scarecrow is visited by a stranger clad in black. She's tall and beautiful, she says some strange words and shoves her hand into Scarecrow's straw-filled body, bringing her to life. The stranger commands Scarecrow to watch over and tend to her crops and leaves. What will Scarecrow do now that she's relatively free?

Thoughts

This game and story is still so so special to me. I had such a wonderful experience working on this project. It was so fun to design the UI and draw characters in a style far different from my usual style. I really tried to make them look like they came from a Tim Burton project.

The story itself can get pretty creepy depending on your choices, of course. But Scarecrow gets to make some special friends along the way. I especially love her relationship with Amaranthine. I lowkey ship them together u///u I still dream of returning to these characters one day to see how they're doing and what they're up to...

With the recent announcement of the Winter VN Jam 2023, I want to reiterate something I posted in a devlog; we're going to be making a sequel to the second, silly short story, Vamp Me!, for the jam! It's going to be a very fun, Christmas themed adventure where you'll see what Jen, Erica, and Girl Dracula are up to... so if you're wondering what happened to them after the ending, you won't be waiting long! Sadie and I are writing this one together, and we've already started!
